A lot of tough love, but she is very willing to help and I learned a lot!

Her accent is unbearable! Too many quizes at a time! If you already have alot of heavy classes besides chemistry don't take it! You have to take all your time to get things right! And trust me, that will be hours.
Great Teacher...willing to spend time so that you understand the material.
i didn't like her. if you do bad in her class she'll treat you like you're a no one. she expects you to know the subject already.
Great teacher. She is very nice and will spend her time helping you with any questions until you truly understand the material. She's not a easy teacher, but she will teach you how to encounter the difficult problems so you won't be lost during the test.
i don't know what the other guys are talking about when they say she's unclear cuz she'll help you till you KNOW the content. as long as YOU study what she teaches in class you wouldn't have a problem.
She is a great teacher. Even though, her accent is a little unbearalbe sometimes, she is clear in what she is saying. Very good teacher! i recommend her to you.
Don't take this teacher!
Her accent is horrible, and its hard to understand what she's saying because of it.She treats people who don't well like crap.Made me feel so bad I switched my major from science to English.DON'T TAKE HER!
Excellent Teacher. People say that she's too hard but I dont' really understand. This class was freakin' easy once you get the concepts. Dr. Ganapathi is willing to help anyone who puts forth the effort to learn and will pull you through the very difficult topics. TAKE HER CLASS!
Her accent is ok. Tests are fairly easy and harder toward the end of the semester. Sometimes kinda unclear about what she says, especially when it comes to Math stuff. Nice person. Last class: less than 10 A's.
Her accent is the nightmare to me. My major is chemical engineering(in my country and here) and i can easily distinguish whether a teacher is good at explaining topics on chemistry. THIS TEACHER IS VERY UNCLEAR....If u take her, u will suffer a hard time in her class, i'm sure.
She's ok, her lecture is somestimes quite fast, but her accent is ok, and she's very helpful if u ask question. Her test are not so easy, but if u do the assignment, u can do well. She's a nice person.I got an A in her class.
she talks fast in her lectures, that's y it's seems that she's unclear. so you have to ask her if u don't get sth, she'll explain fully. her accent was fine to me. not the easiest teacher there is, but she challenges people to push harder. i learned so much more with her even though i complained plenty of times.
She is a very nice teacher that understand student's situation. She is very welling to help student with any question. She has wide range of knowledge in chemistry so don't worry about you won't learn anything from her. She grades farely and very very generous. She is the first choice for your organic cchem class.
Prof. Ganapathi is an excellent chem teacher. She's very clear and very fair. There will be nothing on the tests that she has not taught clearly. If you miss class, reading the book is usually enough to catch you up. Labs are pretty easy as well.
Some people complain that her tests are horrible. If your guys think her tests are difficult, what about the tests in UCLA or Berkeley? They are worse than Ganapathi’s tests. I don’t want to scare your guys. In UCLA, the questions will be double and the test time will be less. I heard lots of students fail their chem. courses after transferring.
THIS CLASS WAS NOT EASY! BUT MOST DEFINITLY POSSIBLE TO GET AN A IF YOU STUDY AND TRY! SHE IS A TOTALLY SWEET WOMEN SHE REALLY CARES ABOUT HER STUDNETS SUCCESS IF YOU NED HELP ASK HER AND SHE WILL MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND! I RECOMMEND HER SHE'S KINDA FUNNY TOO! I ENJOYED HER CLASS!
She is a nice and helpful teacher.I feel free to ask her any question. Her tests aren't very hard.Just study the text and do the computer quizs as practice! Her gradings are fair and clear. She posted the gradings in midterm, which helped me to understand if i should put more effort in the class. anyways, I learned a lot and had good time in her class!
She is a very sweet and good professor. She takes interest into getting to know her students and her lectures are clear and to the point. She'll review stuff for the lab and before the test to make sure that you're always on track with what you're doing and she's never afraid to answer questions or help the class. Love her!
Whoever just says "the easiest science class" is such an idiot. Come on, if life science is Einstein's major, I bet he would say O Chem is a hard subject even if with the best teacher in the world. By the way, Dr G was UCLA's lecturer and she is really good in the field as well as teaching. Her lecture is an effective therapy for sleepiness.
whoever says ochem is easy...they must have learned it before and are learning ochem for the second time. i think u need to at least study hard to get an A in the class.
I just finished her course. I believe she is the greatest lecturer in Chem department of PCC. Although she gave harder tests than other faculties, her lectures are all inspirational. I heard other faculties just taught wrong techniques. Take her class and spend at least 9 hours per week to study. Anyway, you will be tired after done with O Chem.
She takes her exam/quiz question off online sites! I got an A in her class. This class is moderately hard. So prepare yourself.
awesome teacher! very clear, very easy, and very helpful. During the lecture it may seem a bit hard, but when the exam comes around the corner it was totally easy. why? well when she lectures she makes sure you know it! i highly recommend her.
She's really nice. Her lecture is clear and she's always willing to help. She is very patient and kind. She will explain a concept over and over again until everyone gets it. She jokes around with us too! No extra credit. This class does require some effort. It's not hard, yet not easy. Text book is not necessary. Take her! You'll Love her!
Pretty overrated professor. Yes, ochem is hard regardless of who is teaching it, but her lectures are nothing like her exams. Be prepared for studying a lot on your own time. The textbook was okay, nothing special. Once you do poorly on an exam, be prepared for her attitude towards you to change.
her class is tough. a lot of h.w, a lot of labs and worksheets, a lot of study assignments, online quizzes, test are hard and quizzes are to. be prepared to study a lot on your own. also if you start doing poorly or start missing class you'll hear it from her. on a good note she really prepares you for chem and to go onto chem 1a
Definitely the best professor for ochem you can have while attending PCC. You may not receive the grade you desire, but definitely what you deserve. Put in the time and effort in this course as it'll help you lay down a solid foundation for the type of advance science courses you'll encounter once transferred. Not a class for the faint-hearted.
She has got to be the best ochem professor I've ever had. She's crystal clear during her lectures, makes sure that we understood what she was talking about. The work load is challenging but like the comment below she gives you a good foundation - she makes sure we can tie in the knowledge from basic chem and ochem. Take her class!
Very nice teacher. Gives very good lectures. Tests are still very hard. Take good notes and READ THE BOOK!!! The only teacher you would want to take for ochem!
She is, by far, the most knowledgeable chemistry professor at PCC. She emphasizes discipline, so you better be on time and not miss too many lectures. Although being strict might lead students to believe that she is mean, she is the opposite of that. She is very kind, helpful, inspiring, and has a sense of humor. However, an A is not easy.....
she is by far one of the best teachers I've had. Everyone that complains that the class is too hard now good luck on chem 1B and ochem. Dr. Ganapathi is an amazing teacher, and she pushes me to do my best, and I will always cherish having her as my foundation for my chemistry classes.
Not a very animated speaker, but she explains things clearly. Patient, willing to answer questions. Diligent about her office hrs, even holding office hrs in summer when she wasn't required to. Actually cares about the student learning & if you put in the effort, ready to give of her time to help you out. Highly recommended.
She's the best science instructor that I have ever had and that is saying a lot because I've taken a lot of science classes. She genuinely cares about her students and is more than willing to answer any questions they may have. I wish she taught chem 1B because I really enjoyed having her as my chem 1A instructor.
pay attention. good professor, hard tests.
Excellent Professor for a difficult subject. She really knows her stuff and she really knows how to teach. Best Prof for Chem hands down.
shes a great professor and loves chem!!! great class environment and she is extremely helpful. she does prepare you for the ACS exam but man...her tests are tough!
Dr. Ganapathi's lectures are the most clear, well laid out lectures I've ever had. I could publish a textbook with my notes from that class, they're so perfect. That being said, everything was very clean cut and straightforward so the exams were a cinch.
Seems rude but actually a pretty nice professor. She likes people to ask inspirational Qs and if you do she will impress on you. Can't say she's easy A but obviously not a hard grader. Her lectures are really good and if you work hard and pay attention during class, your chemistry foundation will be great and will get an A not only in 1A, also 1B.
Seems intimidating at first, but very kind and funny. Notes are organized and sensible. Uses Canvas regularly which has practice probs, powerpoints, and answer keys. Homework and labs help; doesn't feel like busywork. Plan on dedicating a lot of time if chem isn't strongsuit. Quizzes tricky, tests easier. My class went from 40 to 15 students.
worse professor ever that I have had so far. Her lecture s unclear. She used Willey Plus to assignment hw which is a terrible program to test your knowledge. I just felt like she used her students to test how weak programs work.
Okay professor but gives confusing lecture. Not crystal clear but organize. Lots of small assignments worth a little bit but will add up in the end. Require buy the $125 online code which only worth 2% of your grade and I find out it is not worth the money. Strict on Lab and have high expectation! Hard test with 90 minutes time, so be prepared!!!
Okay professor. Try very hard to help student. Gives a lot of practices thoughout the semester. Exams are not hard but you need to ready the book. Require online code and assigns some works for each chapter. Fair grader and gives partial credits. Don't risk to add the wait list cause she does not add anyone even though you are in the first.
She is really really good and super knowledgeable in her field. Strict and require a lot of details. She is very helpful and gives you a lot of practices after lectures. Fair grader and small extra credits in the quiz and exam. She tries so hard to let everyone to understand the concept! If you need ochem, definitely take her class!
Pretty good teacher and I learned a lot in her class. She is very passionate and knowledgeable in her field. Nice to the student and try very hard to help everyone. Ochem is a little bit hard but not impossible. You should definitely take her class!
Definitely the best professor at PCC. She is extremely knowledgable in chemistry and her lectures are clear and easy to understand. Ochem is a hard subject but she makes will prepare you to the fullest. I took her for both organic chemistry classes and that was the best decision I have made at PCC. 3 Exams, 5 Lab Quizzes, and 5 Lecture Quizzes
She is a wonderful professor and you must take her ochem class! Really strict and well prepare you for your future study. Although there only have a few EC, she only tests you the material she lectures; no more no less. Gives generous amount of partial credits and sincerely hope every student to obtain the grade they deserve. WORK HARD IN OCHEM!
Very passionate in teaching chemistry and is always open to questions. Always looked forward to lectures. Labs weren't too bad but the spectrophotometer lab is the main lab in Chem1A. Overall great professor, great lectures, and the test as well as quizzes are based off of what has been taught and discussed in lecture. There is also a study guide
She cares about students and always tries her best to help you. Organized and clear during the lecture. Strict in the lab and grading. Make sure you read the book and on top of everything because last 2 weeks will have the 4 exams together. Remember don't add her waitlist since she does NOT add people even tho you are on the first on the list!
If you like busywork then take her. She assigns so much homework that it's pretty overwhelming. Her accent is understandable and lectures are clear and answers any questions you have. Wouldn't take her again though.
Study assignments/quizes (or both) each single week, a 3-5 hours online ALEKS homework weekly, long book HW, and of course, lab reports. She assigns lots of work. She doesn't curve. Lots of students failed in my class. If this is one of the best chemistry teachers in PCC, then go take chemistry in other schools. Never had a worse experience.
If you truly want to understand chemistry, take her but know you will study a lot. Her lectures are super clear and organized, I recommend her.
Prof. Ganapathi is an amazing professor. She is tough, but if you work hard, you can get an A. Don't miss her lectures, because they are on point and tells you exactly what you need to study. Her 5-7pg tests are timed (1.5hrs if it hasn't changed); after transferring to UCLA, I realized that it was a good prep for even shorter timed tests here.
She's actually pretty kind as a person but difficult to deal with and learn from as a prof. If she didn't spend half her class time making a mountain out of a molehill about significant figures, she'd be better. Not to mention her teaching is far too traditional. And in real life, whose mind is "traditional?" Take someone else!
She genuinely cares about the students! After transfer to UCB chemistry program, I find how good she is! If you want to excel in the No.1 chemistry program in the US, her class will prepare you so well that you do not need to worry about the organic part at berkeley. Her knowledge and teaching style is beyond some professors I met at Berkeley.
I did 3 years in PCC and professor Ganapthi is by far the best professor I ever had. She goes out of her way to help students and prepare them for the test. Her lectures are clear and the tests are reflective of what taught in the lecture. DEFINITELY recommended. You cant go wrong with Prof. Ganapathi.
I will say only one word. This prof is just unbelievable. she is extremely hard and not caring at all. takes points off on every small thing. the class is already hard, and she makes it even harder by deducting points every where she can. I felt like she is more like an enemy who wants your failure rather than a caring professor at a college.
Professor Ganapathi is an amazing professor. She is not an easy professor but she gives great lectures, is willing to answer any questions you have, and provides plenty of office hours to ask questions. The professor is very particular when it comes to grading exams and grading lab write-ups, so, take good notes during lab and lecture.
If you are borderline A, she will make sure your overall grade in the end is a B. There was no preparation for the final exam, which was much more difficult compared to the midterms. The class average on the final speaks for itself... 56 percent. The class was just a nightmare.
Final was the hardest test. Don't memorize, you'll understand Ochem w her. VERY critical on labs. 3 Exams straight forward. exam av were around 79%. Tells you what to study exactly for the tests. STUDY HER NOTES! Gives 10 pts EC for SI. Online quizzes w/ retakes. spent 30 hours/week on this class. Hw not collected for grade. grades within a week.
Professor Ganapathi is one of the best professors I have ever had. Reflecting back upon transferring to UCLA, I appreciate the hard work she let us put in the class. Learning organic chemistry is not an easy task, however, she made it very understandable and clear. I have learned time management and good studying skills that were crucial. Superb!
FANTASTIC TEACHER. All the material for her tests are straight out of the book and/or study assignments. She takes time to make sure challenging concepts are clearly understood. Cares about her students--she is always available for office hours, gives extra time to complete work (upon request), and grades exams/quizzes quickly (usually same day).
Great professor. Not sure why she gets rated bad. Hell of a lot better than my Chem 22 professor.
If I was you I'd take anyone else, even a tomato can. She genuinely doesn't care about helping. You ask her for help and it seems like you bother her. She is extremely unreasonable when it comes to the load of work she expects you to do that week not caring about those taking more than 1 class. Her grading, little mistake like off by 0.001 no point
One of the hardest courses Ive had to encounter. The material is a lot to understand by itself, however she expects you to do 1-2 in class quizzes every week, along with labs and numerous amounts of homework within a short time. Once you fail one quiz it is hard to bring your grade back up and the tests are extremely difficult as well.
I have never met a professor that cares this much about her students. The workload is hefty, but she set up many extra office hours (even late night) for us to go through extra problems with her before quizzes & exams when we asked! You definitely have to try in the class, but you learn SO much. (+ she drops lowest quiz grade) I loved taking her!
Great lectures and she's super caring! She's eager to solve your curiosity and supports her students. She always tries to offer better materials and asks for students' feedbacks. Quizzes every week and several virtual experiments. I really loved her lectures! She's the best professor I've taken for this fall semester!
Excellent teacher that provides all the resources for you to succeed and goes out of her way to give extra office hours. Her tests are reflective of your homework and the work that you put in. She will prepare you well for future chemistry classes. If you only need one chem class, she may be to rigorous. High emphasis on actually learning.
she is super caring. The work load might seems crazy at first but once you're used to it it's not that bad. gives multiple attend for quizzes and homework. Always available outside of class. put in the work and I'll pay off. Exam are similars to hw problems. take her if you want to do well in Chem!
Professor Ganapathi gives a ton of homework, but with the weight, they're only worth a few points. I spent an average 2 or 3 hours on homework, just for it to be worth max 4 points. But, the OLI homework is really helpful. Tests are sometimes impossibly hard and sample exams aren't always like the exams. If you fail one test it's hard to recover.
This course contains a lot of assignments, but they all help with understanding the content and building a good chemistry foundation for future science courses. The professor has heart to help you succeed. She would explain patiently and clearly even if I ask 'stupid questions'. There are also a lot of resources such as exam sample papers.
Absolutely wonderful professor. She wants to see everyone succeed and will provide as many office hours as possible, especially near exam time. Labs are fun but quite a heavy load of homework. The homework will get you ready for the exam and so will her study guides. If I could, I would take her for all 4 semesters of chem.
Took her class during the fall. Heavy workload, but her assignments helps a lot to pass the test. Tests are very similar to homework and sample tests. Really need to take time studying and work for this class. Need to keep up with her pace or you'll lose track and feel lost. She will have study sessions before the test if you request for it.
this is a heavy class but prof. G is a great teacher. she cares and wants you to succeed.focus on doing well on exams those count heavily. hw/labs arent worth as much. go to office hours, SI, tutors etc. The term hasnt ended yet, but I'll be lucky if i even get a C. if you want to learn a lot, i recommend her.
gpa destroyer
Dr. Ganapathi is mad chill. Other than her laid-back persona, she assigns a ludicrous amount of assignments, which many students found it inhumane and heartless. If you are committed and want to comprehend the subject from the inside out, you will have to go through an agonizing amount of work to do so. Make sure to utilize office hours and tutors.
Honestly Dr. Ganapathi is the best Chem 1A professor there is. She really prepares you by assigning a lot of homework, but I think it's doable. It's definitely intimidating for the first two weeks, but it becomes a lot easier once you get a hang of it and you make friends to help out. Her lectures are amazing in understanding topics. Absolute gem!
Be ready for a lot of homework, however it is doable as long as you set the time for it. The homework prepares you for exams and quizzes. Professor Ganapathi is very caring. She will go beyond her time and hold additional office hours if the class needs it. She fully wants to see her students succeed. I highly recommend her.
Prof. is unclear at times. Lots of HW. First half of class is well paced, rushed in latter half. Has 4 exams opposed to the 3 most other professors have, giving little time for Finals. However, Finals is ACS, so not that bad. Extra Credit available through weekly Supplementary Chemistry sessions. Don't take this class with another work heavy class.
Lecture heavy, quizzes are very unforgiving so be sure to study everything. Very specific on how things are done but nice teacher and will answer any questions.
The professor is nice, but her lecture are unclear, she explain just few things and the slide doesn't help much, they show only few explanations. Even I did chem 22, after I did this class is messing up all I know. About the grading she look for the little thing and not the final result. Even she is caring, I prefer to do another one.
