Dr. Manian was a great teacher. Our class was small, so we really had a chance to get to know eachother and have some great discussions. Manian encouraged us to analyze the material, and took somewhat of a Socratic approach in her teaching style.
Manian is an easy teacher.Quizzes/exams are straight from her lectures and easy @$$ multiple choice. So don't miss class. You need to write a lot but she grades easy.Got all A's.Start off on the right foot w/her & everything will run smoothly.

grades easily, lectures slightly boring, gets off subject sometimes, tests fairly simple, overall an ok class.
ridiculously easy teacher. tests and quizes are all from notes. she DOES take roll though.
OMG...she sucks! If you take Women in Hst. Take it with another teacher. She cant speek a word english...and I have never heard anyone say the word "YA KNOW" so many times...just trust me and pass on Manian, for any class!
A very basic class with no variation in teaching. A bit boring but tries really hard to cover everything.
easy teacher, you don't even have to read a book to get an A on the Quizes. 50% of the grade is really easy to get -- you just need to read a little book and answer a couple of questions she has :)
Outlines her lectures that follow along with book. Quizes are based on what is covered in lectures. She sticks to the agenda and can be comical when she comments on certain subjects. Great instructor!
sucks! cannot speak clearly, treats students like 3rd graders easy A and no challenge no knowledge waste of money, consist of listening to her personal perspective on history, very bias, test consist of regurtating her personal views, if you have a brain don't take this class didnt learn**** got a
She was a very easy teacher, but I found the class very boring. People in the class would discuss during class time how great it is to be a mom. I did not care to hear all this, I was there to learn. Anyway, this class is a snorer but it is an easy A.

manian is really nice for the most part. she can be a little unclear sometimes and can be hard to understand, but for the most part shes a good teacher and i learned a lot in her classes. the reading can be brutal sometimes, but if you take notes you reall
I took her class last year and i mean i love history. Im most likely pursuing it as my major if not defently my minor but her class was pointless being there. Everything piece if notes you have are from the book. She plans the whole schedule ahead which is

I hate this class. Take 3-4 pages of notes EACH class and thats all we do. She sits at her desk eating while we write what she has already typed from the overhead projector. She COULD make copies for all of us and save a few hours and actually TEACH class. I have done all the homework and assingments and still not getting a good grade! I hate this class!!!

This woman is a brilliant historian! You will learn so much in this class. More importantly, you'll be excited about forming your own opinions on each topic. Yes, she uses prepared lectures, but tests are from her notes, so what's the issue? Dr. Manian can turn you into a genius in one semester! Take notes and read your book...you'll enjoy it!
The six tests were on the hard side because I hardly read the book but the notes carried me through. She required two five page papers on Frederick Douglass. I was warned that she actually reads them thoroughly and she did. I liked her teaching style overall. Received an A!
Great teacher, she actually trys to educate people and she mainly focuses her lectures to the peole who are listening. be involved in the discussions and you will get an A. its just the people who act like highschoolers who make the class suck.
Dr. Manian is highly skilled and informative. Her class is interesting and enjoyable. She is particularly adept at relating historical issues to current events thus giving the subject vibrance and significance in every day life.
Tests mostly on lecture, never tests on dates only concepts.
She is the most boring professor and the way she teach is very stupid. Her butt is stuck to her chair for the entire class with her microphone speaker. She is not perpare and make everyone in class fall asleep. I think she should be fire.
She is a great teacher if you take good notes and participate in class you will most likely get an A. The more she knows you the more she makes sure you are passing she is also very intellegent in history
She is a wonderful teacher, mosty all you have to do is take good notes and participate in class. she likes it when you add your own idea on the subj. Ask "?" She knows a lote about the subj. very intellegent! i learned alot from her. show that you care, and she'll make sure your understanding, so you can pass... very easy!!!! I got a "B", but i d
Don't take Women's History for any reason. Especially from Dr. Manian. She tries to make the lectures interesting, but her stupid jokes don't make anyone laugh. They aren't even jokes about the subject matter, they are jokes about her life or things she thinks are funny. I wish I never signed up for this class.
dr. manian is the worest teacher in this world. with her stupid accent and microphone she makes the students sleep. don't ever think to regster in her class.
Dr. Manian is a brilliant instructor. Do not take her unless you are a serious student. Her class requires a good deal of reading and you must write a paper. Tests come from her lectures. If you attend class and read you will get an A.
The student that call her stupid probably get a bad grade poor you. SHE IS A GREAT HISTORY TEACHER. She test on every 2 chapter that is SO GOOD. I had 17 a and 17 at the same time and i still geT A's. Her tests are easy to understand cuz it come from lecture n book. Take her if you a hard work student. SHE IS NICE, CARING, I JUST LOVE HER :)
Dr. Manian is very knowledgeable and funny. She clearly enjoys teaching and it translates into good class participation. Honestly, I did not read more than a paragraph of the main text but took good notes and ended with an easy A. Suggestions might be to rely on technology less (or else spend some prep time before class) and proofing exams.
She is a good teacher who knows what she is talking about. There are quite a few papers you have to write and tests but both are easy. Show up to class and you'll pass everything. However, sometimes she acs like you're in high school. If you leave class early she gets mad and wont listen to what you have to say.
She is a veery good and helpful teacher. She is very funny and understanding.
Dr Manian is a very knowledgeable teacher, and does a great job of teaching her classes. She doesn't put up with any fooling around in her class, and that's a good thing. It enables students to learn, and not be distracted. I highly recomend her as a History teacher at San Jose City College.
I love a great teacher she loves doing what she dose and she's good at it. I got an A in her class!!
DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS. VERY BORING. BAD TEACHER..........
Great teacher, really knows her stuff. There are a lot of tests and two big papers but the key is taking good notes, so you have to go to all the classes. She doesn't test from the book much and if she is going to she'll tell you. Very easy class if you pay attention. I took both 17A and 17B with her and enjoyed both.
Bad teacher. Very borring class, makes you hate history more.
She is very easy if you take notes and also gives you the questions that will be on your tests. She has you write a journal for every other chapter which was 5 (2 Pages, answering 3 to 5 ?s)of them. I did not even need to take the final since I had the points for an A. She also got lazy at the end and her notes were terrible but I did well...
I absolutely hated history before this class, however after taking it with her I love it. She is a great teacher, very organized, has a clear agenda and adds a little humor to the subject. If you pay attention and take good notes you will be just fine. I would definitely recommend her to other students. I can't say enough good things about her.
She is hard to understand and her thought process jumps around. She always seems to be giving the wrong dates for events
Took 17b with a diff teacher got an A, struggled from the get go with this one. Online class, mandatory orientation. Scheduled tests for 1 hour window during other classes. Not willing to give 1 hr window to complete test during 24 hour period like other teachers, if you can't access youre screwed. Have to retake class again... sucks big time
Took this class online. Syllabus, schedule of assignments, and grading clear. Workload wasn't too bad. Tests were easy as long as u read the material, plus she issued out a study guide. Had to read a biography novel in conjunction with history book. 1 essay due for midterm, the other for final. Provided helpful critique.
She is a great teacher and her testing process makes getting an A very easy, the only thing I would say is he view of history is very biased and nothing is open for debate, which would not be an issue if she consistently stated facts and did not interject her own opinion.
The textbook she used was hard to understand, it jumped around quite a lot. She puts her own opinions on the students and if you try to say anything that is different than her opinion, watch out cause she will tell you you're wrong. The last couple weeks of the semester she talked SOLELY about abortion, which very much bothered many people in class
she is one of the greatest teachers i have had a sjcc! her history classes are very easy and its easy to get an A if you put the effort. if you lag on an assignment it can hurt your grade but sometimes she offers extra credit. I recommend her for hist 9/hist 17B
Awesome teacher! On-line Class,HISTORY 17A-American History, keeps-in-touch all the time,explanations-in-detail,very organized assignments, very interesting book, will give very clear instructions, easy to understand, Will take HISTORY 17B WITH HER, VERY FAIR WITH STUDENTS.Has time for You! SHE WILL HELP,IF SHE CAN. I LOVE HER TEACHING.
Online Class, Awesome teacher, critical to read book, and compare her outline, clear email communication and updates, never in the dark, very very fair, I recommend her, as she also meets with students, in her office hours, No tricky tests, you will appreciate her, just ask questions.
online-email her with qs and she answers back.she gives clear directions, study guide & pages that you need to study. 2 types of tests: multiple choice & one pg answer to a question. was terrified to write papers before this but got a good grade. she does not care about technicalities in your paper. she just wants to know that you did the work :)
Very clear instructions and expectations for an online class. Returns emails quickly. Offered xtra credit. In depth considering the vast amount of topics covered in the text.
This class was the best history class I have ever had. She's a great teacher. She knows her subject very well. I learned so much with her class.
Great class! Clear materials and outline for the online American Indian HIstory class. Lots of reading and summary essay writing but an easy to manage class with work dispersed throughout the semester. Dr. Manian corrects work in a timely manner and helps with questions. Good primary and secondary source textbooks.
I took three classes from this professor and enjoyed them all. She is very helpful, and wants her students to enjoy learning. She makes her classes interesting. She is very knowledgeable.
I am just changing my class from intro TBA to humanities 3 Loved the class, loved the Professor. I took all of my History with her,she is very clear and helpful, and makes learning interesting.
I would highly recomend this instructor because she is very helpful and understanding. I took two online class with her and had some difficulty and she took the time to help me to understand the materials.
Excellent teacher! I learned so much in this class. Just about all my class mates enjoyed this class as well. If you want facts about women's history instead of opinion and propaganda, this is the class for you. The work load is manageable and she really sets you up to succeed on quizzes and tests.
Of all my classes this semester I enjoyed hers the most. I found this odd as I went into the class with very low expectations. Her delivery of the subject matter was very engaging and I thoroughly enjoyed her teaching style and humor. She made what could have easily been a boring subject entertaining. It was a pleasure studying under your tutelage.
Dr. Manian is awesome. She made the subject matter enjoyable and was very engaging with her students. She gave 5 short essays during the semester and a few tests, but she is very thorough going over the subject matter. You can tell she loves teaching this class. It was my favorite this semester.
Dr.Manian is a wonderful professor. If you ever need help in her class, she is ready and willing to help you. I recommend that you should take her course. I really enjoyed her class.
Dr. Manian is a fabulous teacher, the class is very clear cut and easy to understand. It is also very interesting. Dr. Manian is funny and always very helpful. I was always more then prepared for the class tests and there was never anything unexpected. I highly recommend this class, it is an easy A as long as you pay attention and attend class.
Wonderful teacher. I've officially taken every class she's taught. She is interesting and knowledgable and challenges your thinking. Even online her expectations are clear and her touch unmistakable. I would recommend her to anyone and often have.
I just wanted to say that I enjoyed taking this online class this semester and loved having Padma as my instructor for two classes so far! Having an online class has helped me manage my work and school schedule perfectly. I also enjoyed being able to discuss these very important issues that were assigned to us. Thank You to Mrs. Manian
This is an ONLINE CLASS, Professor Manian cares about all her students, keeps in touch with everyone. She mentioned, "I will be available in person, contacting all students online, I also do this with my regular classes," a students' education means the world to her. (Read/Study/Follow Directions) YOU WILL GET AN AWESOME GRADE.
I took Dr. Manian's online course HST 24 History of the American Indian. The course load was reasonable and the online course format is really manageable. We had 4 written assignemnts, 1 essay and 3 tests(all online). I would recommend this class if you are a history major or if you need to complete GE or elective credits.
I love this teacher. I have taken her for all of my history classes except for one. She is nice and understanding. She is very helpful throughout the entire class and available for questions. I have recommended students to her time and time again.
Online summer course. Active, passionate, and easy grader on essay, which there was only one. Easy everyday 2 questions, which you can get points for even with wrong answers. Gave exact tests question 3 weeks ahead of time. Got 88%, but still get an A. I think she boosted it up for me. how nice of her :)
Dr. Manin was absolutely phenomenal. Her teaching reflects her passion and enthusiasm for history. Her sense of humor is an added bonus. If you show up to class, take notes, and do the reading, you will be successful.
I have learned more about the intricacies and nuances of history in this class than any other history class I have ever taken, and I am a history buff! Her method of getting us to read the book and answer the study guide questions really made me soak in the readings. I have enjoyed this class, and I have found her to be an excellent professor!
I have really enjoyed this class. The assignments have required me to contemplate controversial topics and decide where I stand. I have found that the feminist movement started out w/ good intentions & has done so much for women, but like any other platform, there are people that will take the issues and manipulate them to propel their own agenda.
Her expectations are very clear... so getting a good grade in the class is straightforward. Just do your work. She is prompt in her responses. I found her approach at extra credit interesting (and she gives plenty of opportunities for EC). Overall, Dr. Manian is an excellent teacher and I enjoyed taking the class.
Dr. Manian is very helpful. I took the on-line class and enjoyed the class. She is very supportive and very clear during the first (on-site) meeting and lets everyone know that they can get a good grade if they follow directions/trys. She provides Q&A for tests and allows useage during tests.
Highly Recommend this professor, with the online classes: Clear, Concise, Good Natured, Great Communicator..
Online class, pristine in clarity and helpfulness, texts with information as necesssary, you will not regret taking her classes!
Online class is fairly easy. As long as you do all the work and make it detailed, you will receive full credit. If not detailed, you will receive a couple points off even if you meet the requirements. Study well for tests. She gives a test study sheet with the same questions but she makes the answers confusing so read carefully. Overall, she's ok.
She is a great teacher, funny, easy going, and knows her subject well. The class consisted of two tests and the rest is forums and journals. You definitely need to read the book to pass. In the beginning of the semester she promised she would challenge our thinking on past and present issues and make good on that promise, I would recommend her!
Took over summer. There were 3 tests and one essay. No homework except read and answer the study q's which are exactly like the test. The essay was on a different book, not the history book. Easy class to pass and she gave good feedback as well as being very direct. She definitely knows how to teach!
Dr. Manian was a great and friendly teacher. Follow the syllabus and read the books and you'll get an A. She also responds quickly to emails if you're taking her online classes.
So Easy!!! 3 online tests 2 hours each, open book, 1 extra credit, one 6 page essay on a book. none of the tests are cumulative and no final or midterm! Uses moodle to submit work and do tests. Take if working or taking a lot of classes. This class is also about a month long so wont have to worry about it later.
She is a fair and easy grader. She does tend to have class discussion that takes the whole class time but as long as you read from the book, do the work and do not use quotes only put things in your own words, you will be fine and for sure pass the class. this will be the 3rd class i'm taking with her.
Dr.Manian is one of the best teachers I have had the pleasure of meeting! The class I am taking right now is very interesting. I love the class so much that I am taking more. She is always there to answer any questions. I recommend anyone considering taking her class to go for it! Thank you Dr. Manian for making a difference in my life.
this is the second class that I have taken with Dr Manian. This class was Hum3 Woman's Studies. Class was online. Great class, very good readings. Had to do 6 papers (3 pages each) she gives atleast 2 weeks to do. Very interesting readings which makes the papers easy to write.Dr Manian is great. She respinds to all emails fast too. Great class!!!!!
This class was alright. 3 tests and one paper. Since it was online I didn't feel like i learned as much since you have to teach yourself everything. I did like that she gave test questions ahead of time. I took history 17B with another instructor and got an A but with this one I'm at a B which isn't bad just meh.
I was reluctant to take a Women's History class at first, thinking that it would turn out to be some anti-men, feminists teacher. However I was wrong, the class became very interesting and even challenged the stances I took. Easy going, not too difficult, and many open discussions. Good class overall.
Tests do not match study guides. The questions are completely different. When you ask for help she doesn't email you back. I took this online and hated it.
Easy! Gives sched and due dates. finishes 2 months early so you have time to focus on other classes. Exams online and one term paper which is pretty much a book summary. gives extra credit in beginning to ensure you pass!
I took the online class w/ Dr. Manian. The course has one book essay and 3 tests. She gives out study questions before the reading. These are very very helpful. She also held discussion meeting about the book essay providing pointer to help with essay. As long as you read, you will do fine on the test.
Professor Manian's approach in teaching students about differences between genders and women is most refreshing. I've learned about myself in the process of reading and writing about the opposing gender views.
A great class and incredible teacher. She is a wonderful lecturer and very insightful. The material she chose was very interesting. She's clear in her assignments, supportive and was available to discuss questions with me. Honestly, one of my best experiences and will always be a favorite class. Highly recommend taking her courses.
This class was online and difficult. You have 3 exams which she gives you a study guide and you have to read the book to do it. It takes a lot of time but if you actually read it you can get an A like I did. She requires 1 paper too. The paper is from a novel you must read and its about 8 pages. This class was time consuming but I did get an A!
Dr.Manian is great! I've taken her ONLINE COURSES for History 17A, History 17B, and History 09 which is a Women in America course. All three of these online classes are pretty much the same. They consist of Tests, Forums, Journals, and study guides. VERY EASY! and you actually learn a lot!!
Took her for american history online class, almost wish I did it in person she is way cool and a great teacher. really likes her subject.
Absolutely dreadful. I am a business major at SJSU and I took her Hist 17b online class at SJCC. She is TRIPPIN with the 90 question study guides. I did all of them but they took me forever and a day and did not even help that much with my scores. Way too much work for a pointless GE class. Also ignored me when I asked for feedback on the paper.
You get what you work for. You will do just fine if you do the study guides and most importantly page numbers. I enjoyed her article and overall I enjoyed the class. I asked questions whenever I was in doubt and she replied very fast.
Took US History with Dr. Manian and really enjoyed it. Course was straightforward and very short, about 1 12 months. Lots of reading, for me it was 30 pages a day 5-6 days a week, but the textbook was actually very interesting and even funny at times. Teacher was responsive, even gave me an extra point for correcting a test question.
I really enjoyed the format and organization of this course.
I put a 2 for easiness because I took it as an intersession class (online class). So it wasn't her fault. Had two lectures with her.. if I have to take another Hist. class it will definitely be with her!
Took Manian for Intersession. Very fast paced class. Clear concise grading structure; many quizzes and one essay. She may be a little hard grader on the exam, but shes very open for questions. I took the AP exam got a 4, and most of the content was different than what I had learned.
Mrs. Manian is a very caring teacher who only wants the best for her students. She does everything in her power to help you succeed.
I took Dr. Manian's HST24 (online Native American history & culture). She had clear expectations & clear grading. If you have any questions, feel free to email her. She responds quickly. Since it is online, it is important to read the textbook. It is true to pass the course, the book is required. If you do the work, you will get a good grade!
This is how it went: One week read two chapters, take quiz (10pts) no time limit. then next day that a 40pt exam 1 hr. Next week read 3 chapters take quiz next day exam. then next week read 2 chapters quiz, exam. Yeah + a discussion every week + a one essay. No final. I was working fulltime& taking this class. You have to try to get an A.
This online class should be a best choice for a busy person. However, it requires a good time management ability, because there is always a deadline for every single assignment. But, Dr. Manian's clear instruction would help the students out and make things simple.
Excellent instructor. Sets clear expectations and very fair. Introductory lecture clearly spells out expectations - easy to follow after that. Term Paper based on an interesting autobiography. Answers emails almost immediately. Very helpful.
she is the best teacher I took 17A her online class is really easy if u have any question just email her she is always happy help u she will respond right away ;)
Took World Hist 11A online and she was very helpful and made it very easy to get an A if you are willing to spend a little time reading this class is a cake walk.
This course for Humanities 3 (Women's Studies) was taken online on the Moodle website at SJCC. She has an easy to understand format, each wk there is a paper due, a discussion log (usually responding to a topic(paragraph response)), and a response to someone's discussion log. The reading is not long, it's actually interesting and opinionated base
This is an online class given by a smart and well rounded instructor, if you do the readings, the class is easy enough to pass and do well, but if you do not read the book, class can become difficult. She is responsive, understanding, and encourages thought through reflection on history. This is not a difficult class but it is not a simple A.
Great teacher, very smart and informative, tells you exactly what you need to do in order to pass and do well. Follow instructions complete non mandatory homework and you will do fine. for an A start a study group (even via the web) and review homework together, it will help with test. Great teacher, assigns one final research paper per course.
Took during intersession and there is a lot of reading. There were 2-3 tests per week but she gives study guide's out for each test to ensure you pass. No final on the reading but instead there is a 5-7 page paper about a different book you must read. The instructions are very clear and there is no extra credit. Stay on top of your reading or fail.
Dr. Marian's History class has been my favorite online class. Reading and discussions were very interesting. Class was very organized and well structured . Professor provided clear instructions and feedback was on a timely manner. I really recommend this class with Dr. Manian
Dr. Manian provides clear instructions and directions to succeed in her class. Readings and topic of discussions are interesting. You learn a lot in this class. She is in constant communication with her students and provides feedback in regards to the progress of the class. Best online class ever!
Discussion question and response due everyone Wed and Sat. Every about 10 days, test on 3 chapters. Do the study guide! There is also a paper (minimum 7 pages) due about a week before the last day of class. You have to stay on top of reading or you wont pass the tests. It was a very interesting and I would recommend taking it from Dr. Manian!
I took the accelerated online course for Women in American History with Dr Manian. The course was very clear. There were 5 Biography and 4 Responses (min of 2 pages each) due about every 8 days. As well as a discussion question and response due everyone Wed and Sat. It was a very interesting class and I enjoyed it a lot. I would recommend taking it
Overall, ending this course with these last two articles really made an impact on my views on same-sex marriage. Not only was this an interesting topic to reflect on, but all of the viewpoints of this book really opened up my mind to different perspectives. Great instructor that tests your ability to write. I've become a better writer!!
The only F I have ever received on a paper was in this class. Following her format, putting in the effort and responding to her questions is not enough. She asks for your opinion but then failed me and told me I was too opinionated. I put the same amount of effort into my first papers... First one got an A, the second one got an F.
This was my first online class in SJCC and it was good. Grading criteria and expectations were clear and set ahead of class. Dr. Manian also sends reminders on a weekly basis so there's no way you don't know what's going on. Forum postings, respond to a fellow classmates forum, tests every 2-3 chapters and a 7 page paper, all done in 8 weeks. Best.
The course is divided into three parts: weekly discussion, weekly quiz, and a 7-page paper. The weekly discussion is no biggie. The weekly quiz and paper requires in-depth reading so get ready to read. The professor is quick to respond, gives good feedback on assignments, and made the course enjoyable overall.
I takes her online class for His 17A & His 17B/ Professor is very enthusiastic to provide a clear guide for you to study the course. In order to get A grade, you should read bool carefully because all of her quiz and discussion are included in the bool. Be keep track your schedule whereas you will miss the duedate
This was a very straightforward class and Dr. Manian provided us with a very clear syllabus and explanation of the expectations, requirements and grading criteria. There were no surprises or "tricks".
I took Women's Studies with Dr. Manian & I enjoyed every bit of it. In the syllabus, she said to be prepared for a heavy workload, but honestly, it was the easiest class -- post/respond to forums & write papers. She graded easy and I loved how I was able to express myself in my papers instead of a typical lecture-like class. GOO TAKE DR. MANIAN!!!!
This is a great course to take if you're looking to learn about a part of American history that is often left out of the typical textbook. I learned lots of things about Native American history that I feel are important to know. The course is fast-paced but as long as you stay on top of all the assignments it's not too difficult.
Was not helping with answering questions about the material. I emailed her on many occasions, and I never received a reply back.
She gave great discussion questions that were super interesting! Always expanded my views to different arguments.
Instructor Manian doesn't grade on a curb, so everything you do is a valued point. Questions on the test are very hard if you're looking at the answer to the question via your notes or book, that may not be the best selection. For me, it was extremely hard to answer the questions. I ended up being a few point short and taking the class over again.
Tests are long and she tells you to read the book, however I got a bad grade on some tests EVEN THOUGH I read the whole chapter. The test questions are super confusing. It seems like she WANTS you to fail the class. There is a 7 page paper at the end of the class that is hard to write AND she grades super tough. Find a different teacher.
I took this class online in the spring intersession. DON'T DO THAT! She does not condense anything and you are responsible for all the work given in a regular semester! It was extremely test heavy due to the time constraints and she is a tough grader. I took a women's study class regular session and it was a bit better.
Intro to women's studies online was ok. Lots of papers due but ample time to complete them. The forums were tolerable but an added load. She is a tough grader just don't take her intersession classes or you'll pay the price bc she won't condense a thing! I couldn't get a feel for much more as this was an online class but be prepared to do the work!
enjoyed this class! I can honestly say I learned a lot of things about American History that I definitely did not know before. Dr. Manian is passionate about History, as a History teacher should be! Dr. Manian understands that sometimes unexpected things happen in life. If you show that you truly care about learning the material, you'll do great
Dr. Manian brings up good topics to discuss but takes way to long grading the essays she assigns every two weeks and gives no feedback for the discussions. To tough a grader, takes too long to return essay assignments, almost no feedback.
Dr. Manian is a rigorous Professor who has really prepared me for CSU level work. For this I will always be grateful.
I took her Humanities 09 class online. Be prepared to have a few things due each week. If you don't do the work and get a decent grade you won't pass. Follow her exact instructions and you will do well. Miss an assignment and you will fail. She has no extra credit.
This class was very easy! As long as you are self motivated which can explain most online classes. As long as you keep up you can succeed. This class was better than I expected. The books we read were actually really interesting and had to do with real life issues and showed both sides which was appreciated. Almost felt like a sociology class.
This was my first online class. I was worried about it not being to handle it, I was wrong. The due dates of assignments were very consistent. It helped me manage my time and other class work better. I also appreciated how fast my work was graded. This class was very well organized and I learned a lot. I had no negative experience with this class.
This professor really nice. I learned a lot of knowledge from history 17A. If I have an opportunity I will take her again
This summer online course was based almost entirely on reading chapters, answering typical (found online) questions, and then a weekly test. What was missing? Anything interesting: videos, lectures, ppt, graphs, movies, interaction, topics, current events, relevance, and engagement. I think this a terrible way to learn/review history.
Discussions are the easiest part of the class but its the essay you have to watch out for. They will ask you what is the meaning of this paragraph and if you get it wrong your paper will go down. It doesnt matter if you had the rest of the questions right, its that certain question that will bring you down. Dont miss a quiz or discussion.
Strongly dislike history classes so I took it online. There were discussion posts/responses and test every week, and 1 final paper on a short novel. Must do the discussions because they will boost your grade. Had to read 4-5 chapters a week, so I skipped and just googled the test questions. Same for the paper, but just don't copy words by words.
This is my 2nd time taking a class with Dr Manian. I appreciate her formats of grading, and really makes you work for a good grade. She communicates well with students and makes extra efforts to assist students. I would take more classes in future for sure with this professor.
This is the best professor that I have taken in my college life. Professor Padma helps a lot of things to gain my history knowledge. The class was a lot of reading but trust me, the professor made it become more easier and enjoyable. The professor responded to your email right away. Very helpful and passionate. For sure you will like the class.
Professor Padma who is a person honestly the easiest grader I have ever had. Highly recommend her, will take her for my History 17B class. This class is really good and easy to pass if your the type of person to turn assignments in on time.
I took professor Manian for, History 001. The workload given was reasonable. . The class was reasonable however, the professor wasn't. The professor wasn't detailed when, responding to emails. I had a high A, maintained it throughout the semester. Last minute my grade changed to a B. Other students have also complained, about sudden grade changes.
Very caring Instructor with very short-time response! The professor also answered the prompts in easy way to understand and her/his materials are collective chosen that you need to look at it in order to pass the class. She/he made history class affordable for students who have prejudice about it. Strongly recommended this Instructor!
I have taken this course on intersession, so it was kinda fast. but if you have try your best to read the book and do all the assignment you must pass the course with a high grade
I took this class in intersection winter and though it would be so hard. But the Professor made it easier for me. This class had 8 quizzes and 7 pages essay report that she already provided detailed study guide for us.
I took the winter intersession class and the workload was reasonable, especially for a very short class. As long as you complete the discussions and keep up with the reading, you will be fine. The study guides are extremely helpful and definitely must be completed to get As on all the tests. Make sure to start the book report ASAP .
I took Prof. Manian for both HIS 017A and HIS 017B online. She is a tough grader and can tell if you haven't read the textbook. Lots of tests (although most of the answers are on Quizlet) and a big paper to finish off the semester. If you're a reader and a self-starter, I would take her online, because she's pretty hands off.
not recommend
I took HIST 11b online (8 week course) and here are my thoughts: - Quick response time - Super organized course structure - Extremely clear expectations and guidelines The course (World History) requires a lot of commitment and accountability. Set assignment alerts and you'll be fine. If you have any issues, Professor Padma is quick to support.
This professor was unnecessarily hard. This was my hardest class my last semester in community college, and it was hard to even maintain a "B" in her class. Being an "A" student, I have never gotten a paper back and got anything lower than a "B", but she constantly gave me feedback, which was great, but why was her grading so hard for a CC class?
Took this class and dont regret it , definitely advice anyone to take this class. Dr padma is very caring and understanding
Professor Manian is a good history 17A professor. I like her lectures but not until the last paper that she made us write. The biography paper about Frederick Douglass pulled my grade down to B and I'm not happy about it.
Took her 8 week online Native American class. A lot of reading and writing but very doable as long as you stay on top of it and don't fall behind. The class is very interesting, especially the book she picked for the 6 page essay at the end. She was a gracious grader I got 100 on everything but the exams. Exams were tough but doable. Great teacher!
Professor Manian is an instructor to be appreciated with fair adherence to policy in preparation for expected university level understanding and effort. His materials for test preparation are a huge learning tool and I walked away having learned a subject that is not easy to comprehend. Thank you, Professor Manian.
I learned more about history.
I loved hisory, but after this class, I hate history now.
Great teacher for this class. I found it pretty easy but also pretty interesting and thought that she made the class fun and entertaining. You definitely have a lot of reading and work to do, but as long as you get it done you should be okay for getting a good grade
the best ever Dr. Manian easy and clear class helpful and kind to be honest at begining wasnt really happy to take history because i dont like history but not i really love to study about it i will take your class this semester thanks for giving us your time, see you this summer Dr. Manian
Wow, the best Professor I have ever had. Very considerate. Dr. Manian is very knowledgeable and makes history interesting. Do your discussion posts, take the tests and you will solid. If history is not really your thing or hard for you, take Dr. Manians class! She will help you succeed and learn!
This was a fun course to take. She is are so understanding when it comes to the papers, which is so helpful to students! Lot's of reading though. But, they were fun readings. And definitely make you think. I would recommend this course!
Dr. Manian is a great professor! She puts a lot of time into the tests and assignments she produces, which ultimately leads to a good grade if you do the required work! I had a personal situation that arose within the last few weeks of school and she was 110% caring and worked with me to help me succeed. I recommend Dr. Manian to anybody at SJCC!
I took her intro to womens studies class and i loved it. we had something to read every week but it wasnt overly long or hard. we also wrote short papers every other week and she gave good feedbacks.
She is a gem, she is definitely professional, respectful and willing to help you.
She is a great instructor, this is my third class with her she is understanding, caring, and is willing to help.
This was a challenging class. Not only I learned a lot but it helped me develop my writing skills and critical thinking skills. Dr. Manian gives great advice and I appreciated all the constructive criticism. I truly enjoyed the class beyond limits.
I get to practice my writing a lot while learning about the pioneer women during the Revolutionary era till now.
Professor Manian gets ready to read all the assignment and has very patience. She is available all the time, even I had online course and she was available through the email. She is caring not only on the course, assignment and subjects, she is caring everything around her students as well.
I took both her women's history and humanities class and received A's in both classes. She doesn't assign too much work and she gives plenty of time to work on assignments. She's very linient when needed and super kind.
Humanities is my second class with Dr. Manian, and I have throughly enjoyed both class and learned a lot from her class. She provides plenty of guidance way in advance, provides questions that can be used to write your entire paper. I felt very relaxed because her class is paced well. She is also very caring towards her students. Im grateful.
The class was very informational with the readings from different viewpoints from the textbook and the articles she provided. I had a rough start in the beginning of the semester but I managed to pass the class. She was very understanding of the situation and helped me out a great deal. I would definitely take her classes again.
Dr. Manian is an incredible professor because she cares. She cares about student success and she works with them on an individual level. Her class is challenging but fair, and at no point did I feel like I was doing busywork. She makes you earn your grade, but she is also forgiving to individual student needs. She is a gem of a professor.
Dr Manian who is a great Professor. She cared, understanding to her students and very kind of person. Dr. Manian also send reminders on a weekly so you won't miss assignments also she provided clear instructions and directions to success in her class. The professor responded to your email right away. I recommend to everyone to Dr. Manian.
I took HIST17B with Dr. Manian in Summer 2020. The course wasn't difficult. Everything was being so organized that I could easily address my weekly assignments. The professor was very helpful by sending emails to remind students about the upcoming assignments. If you read the books and turn assignments in on time, you should be fine!
I took History17A class this summer. Dr Padma Manian is a very nice teacher. She take care of her class very well. I learned a lot from her class. There was no any pressure in the class and I liked it so much.
Dr Manian taught my history summer school class in 2020. The work load was a lot, only because it was a short 6 week course. (Online) However the same material was used as a full semester. Answer the questions to the study guide and memorize those specific questions and answers youll be sure to pass! Also very reasonable just do the work!
My professor, Padma Manian is a friendly and enthusiasm teacher. She always helps all the students when they need. Im pleasant and lucky when I registered her class- history 17A because she is a good teacher. For me, I really appreciate her ability.
You have to learn your own. Big workload. The study guide doesn't help to prepare for the test. She has weird email writing rule which if you don't follow it you won't hear back. However, she herself doesn't follow that rule. Inflexible and micromanaging.
This was my first experience with an online only course and I was very pleased with the way Doctor Manian has their canvas page set up. Very easy to understand and follow. Doctor Manian is very reasonable and flexible. I hope I can get another class with Doctor Manian in the future.
This Professor was awesome. Take this class guys .
I've had Professor Manian for both History 17A & 17B as well as the latest Women's History 009. She runs a very well structured class, organized and sends out reminders of when studies are due. She always responds promptly to questions and or concerns, highly recommend any of her courses.
I took HST 024 during my first sem, online. It was 8 weeks long so it went at a faster pace. Overall I really enjoyed the material of the class. The amt of work was very good for students in a pandemic, not overwhelming. She was understanding if we needed any extra time on assignments and allowed good amt of time to take tests. I recommend!
Dr Manian is honestly one of the best online teachers I had ever taken classes with. she is so nice and understanding. Her classes are usually very easy to pass. it just discussion and papers every alternating week. she is also very accessible so you can contact her if you have any problems and she gives really good feedback. she is very lenient
Dr Manian is such a nice and understanding teacher. this is the second class I have taken with her and she has been so supportive and caring. she send weekly reminders before homework is due and is very lenient if you need extra help. she also gives really good and detailed feedback on your paper. I am forever grateful for her help.
Dr. Manian is completely unbiased in her approach to teaching history. Be prepared to do a lot of reading- there are 6 tests based on 2 required textbooks and a 7-9 page paper based on a bibliography. Do the weekly assignments and prepare good notes for the tests with page #'s. I gained a lot of real-world perspective during this course.
Loved this class. This was by far one of the easier classes I have taken and I didnt find it boring like past history courses I have taken. Do all the video homework and discussion on time and read the book and you will pass with an A. There is one paper due at the very end that is 7 pages but if you read the book it is on you will have no trouble
Professor Manian is a great teacher. She care the class and her students so much. There are only 6 tests and 1 final paper for the whole course. It is easy to get A grade .
I really enjoyed Dr. Manian's History and Culture of American Indians class at SJCC. There is quite a lot of reading and homework, but it prepares you well for the exams and the subject matter is very interesting. I am planning to take another class with her in the spring.
The only professor that has ever given me a high level of feedback for my papers. I always read their comments and I truly appreciated their feedback. This professor helped me to save my grade when I missed a few assignments.
Dr Padma was the most helpful professor ive ever met. She organizes assignments and reminds students everyday thru inbox to make sure you wont miss the deadlines. I thought intersession would be very hard to follow since there would be a big load of work. But we only have 2 quizzes, 1 video 1 disscussion a week. Def take her classes in the futur
He was very accessible if we needed and understood what the expectations were. Great and interesting class.
Professor Padma Manian is a good teacher. She always cares and reminds students to complete well their assignments. Furthermore, her curriculum is clear and easy to understand. She always respects and responds to all students' mails. I'm really excited in her class because she is very nice and always friendly and caring for the students.
This course didn't have zoom calls which is a plus but also a minus. The course had an okay amount of work. I wish she had more discussions for us to do to engage with one another and for more points. Overall, ok class. Pretty much everything from APUSH.
I have taken two of Dr. Manian's classes. The class is clearly outlined and you will know exactly what to expect. The work load is fair with light weeks and harder weeks flip-flopping each other. The feedback is great and responses to emails are very prompt. Would definitely take again.
Dr. Manian is clear and concise. She provides you with all the necessities to do well in her class and also prepares you for your future endeavors. Although this is an American history class, she does supplement reading materials that are still relevant to today's students. She is thoughtful and caring and a great asset to SJCC.
I enjoyed learning about all the different wars, policies, and important people that help turn each country in a different direction. I also enjoyed responding to the videos because it helped me visualize what might have happened in specific events, conferences, and places. Take her class, you won't regret it.
Im a few days away from finishing Hist17A with Dr. Manian as a summer course. The class is asynchronous, and she is clear with her expectations. We were emailed everything the course would require a week before the class began. Tests and assignments are consistently on the same days of the week. The course was challenging, but easy to navigate.
expects you to do over 100 questions for only 5 points.
Dr. Manian is one of my favorite professors at SJCC! I have taken two of her classes and never had any issues! Do the work and get the credit!
I've taken HUMN3 and Hist001 with Dr. Manian. The coursework is unbiased and factual. She provides the opportunity to explore different perspectives, while providing students the ability to share their own. Too many professors push their own beliefs on students, she doesn't. The classes are organized and clear. Useful feedback is provided on work.
Summer 2021 Beware lots of reading. Exams were difficult.
Super unhelpful, and somewhat incapable of using canvas. The extra credit was impossible to turn in (she didn’t add a submission link) and would not accept it when I tried to email it to her without any more explanation than that I “had not tried to turn it in before.”Coursework was simple and concise, however she was very unprofessional.
The course was tough but manageable. Reading materials are extensive, however they help to understand the topic in whole. I enjoyed the course and really liked the professor and the fact that she would remind students about assignments due dates. Professor Manian was responsive and helpful. All instructions on Canvas were clear and easy to follow.
Dr. Manian is a great teacher. Her class included a combination of tests, video questions, discussions and a paper - all graded fairly with plenty of time to pace yourself between assignments to do well (even during a short session class). She genuinely cares about her students and offers support where needed. I would highly recommend her classes.
Awesome class, best part is the perfect set up for the semester switching from assignments to discussion to quizzes. Unlike other classes that bunch everything up the same week! Really straight forward and would take class again !
Dr.Padma Manian is an amazing teacher at San Jose City college. She responds quick to any questions or concerns and gives good helpful feedback. She also gives a good amount of time to turn in papers which helps to be more detailed and creative with your writing and research. Would recommend taking her classes.
I so enjoyed Dr. Manian's Women's Gender Studies course! She gives clear direction, is respectful and caring. Her availability for questions and feedback is positive, timely and appreciated. Content is thought provoking and she's a fair grader, you have to earn it! I grew both as a student and a woman and would take another of her classes. :)
Responds on time and you get to take the quiz two times sometimes three. Readings can be a little heavy and keep truck of the assignments. No zoom call and in person meeting so you will never know who they are. I wish there was like a one time zoom meeting. After all its a good class to take if you want to learn about the world history.
6 tests and they are easy. 1 final paper of around 8 pages. There's a weekly discussion. Summer term still has the final paper.
Online class with online text. Clear communication by professor, with great reminders about due dates, and easy to follow coursework. No tests, just review questions on each chapter and great discussion boards!
Professor Padma is awesome! She always reminds us to do assignments on time, so students won't forget to do assignments and complete them to achieve the best grades. While taking her classes, if you do not understand lectures or a research paper, you can email her, and she replies quickly. If you have a chance, you should take her classes.
Expect to read a lot in this course. Follow the rules of the syllabus, make decent posts, and make sure you don't fall behind on the final paper. If you do that, you should be fine.
Overall was a great class that dove into interesting topics. There was 8 papers due total that were rather thought provoking but are required to no stray from the materials provided which can be a bit frustrating when you understand the topic more as whole. The professor was lenient with grading and helpful as can be.
Dr. Manian gives out plenty of homework within a six-week summer course. As long as you turn in daily assignments and complete weekly exams on time, you should be fine. It is best to not worry about the grade. Academic writing takes lots of practice and patience, so giving yourself plenty of time is essential.
I really like her teaching. The class was all online and she graded you on the discussions, exams (6) took her summer secession course, a paper, and 3 video questions and answers.
Dr. Padma was a great professor. Lots of reading, but the assignments were easy. She has clear instructions and a certain way you have to answer the questions. But do the work and reading and you'll pass. I enjoyed the class.
enrolled intersession 24'. I compared her course in summer and intersession, & its BEST to take her in the intersession. Intersession has: 3 videos(5 questions each) 8 quizzes(30 questions) 4 discussions. You do not need to read coz everything is on internet. Summer has: 6 discussion, 6 quizzes, 3 videos(5 questions each), & write a PAPER of 6pages
I enrolled in Professor Manian's online class and found the assignment reminders helpful. The course was enjoyable and straightforward, and I would highly recommend it.
I've taken Professor Manian twice and she is a very fair professor. The assignments are clear and the due date is clear. I never questioned her set up because she makes it clear and will constantly send reminder emails to complete assignments on time/due dates! you won't be disappointed!
17B was fully online. One test a week with 2-3 chapters in each test. Study questions provided that are very similar to test questions. 17B had a book report 7 page essay.
Summer 2024: Completing weekly exams, discussions, and three videos is crucial for boosting grades. The paper is the most essential assignment, and effective time management is vital for success in HIST 17b course.
Summer 2023:Completing weekly exams, discussions, and three videos is a must to raise the grade. Paper should be at least 7 pages to earn credit. In fact, proper time management leads to better academic performance.
Padma's online HIST017A is manageable with proper time management. Utilize resources like unstuck ai alongside the textbook to prepare for exams and the final paper. Stay organized to earn a solid grade.
Dr. Manían is a great professor. She is very understanding. Her class is very interesting in our American history!
Dr. Manian's class is a challenge for me because many of the topics have required for me to step out of my comfort zone. I do appreciate the material expectations being very clear for assignments, and the discussions. She requires us to participate with each other online and grades fairly. She is very kind and understanding. I would recommend.
Weekly papers and discussion questions. I not once got all good marks on a paper, she always has something you could have done better on. The topics she has you write about are somewhat out of pocket but interesting. If a friend took this course she uses the same material!
Great professor. Her class is pretty easy. Discussions post are due Wednesdays and replies due Saturdays. The work was easy, just answering questions based on different chapters. The due dates for the homework can vary. Definitely recommend this class for an easy A.
Professor Padma Manian is an excellent professor and very knowledgeable. I enjoy taking her course and will continue to take more of her courses. Each assignment was clear and easy to complete and the discussion forums were engaging.
This summer course had a discussion and a test every week, video questions every other week and one 7 page paper. Assignments were not difficult as Professor did give a lot of help with study questions for tests and specifics on how she wants your assignments turned in. Professor was extremely kind, helpful, understanding and timely with emails.
I took Professor Manian's class online, and she made the experience really smooth. Her lessons are clear, her assignments are fair, and she responds quickly when students have questions. She truly cares about helping her students succeed. I definitely recommend her online class.
Easy passing grade, literally just do what you gotta do and you'll be good.
Professor is really kind and she really cares about the students' success. Make sure you read your materials and do classworks on time and you will succeed in this class. She always reminds us via canvas inbox for assignments, discussions and weekly materials throught the semester. I'd definitely take her classes again for future studies.
Prof Manian's class mainly consisted of discussions and 8 papers in the semester. The topics covered were extremely interesting, and she gives you feedback on papers! I enjoyed her class a lot. Even though there were 8 papers, it was mainly opinionated/guided by questions. As long as you manage your time well, class is very doable!
Dr. Manian is an exceptional professor. Her online section is organized & easily accessible. She has clear expectations and provides helpful or supportive feedback. The coursework is reasonable & consistent, so you won't be surprised by what's upcoming or due. Overall, this course structure allowed me to learn the material w/o feeling overwhelmed.
