She's very hard to understand and she goes really fast. She is not consistent with her testing, she changes her mind and doesn't tell the class until the day before. she expects you to already have your masters in chemistry and doesn't understand why the entire class is not doing well.
Padmaja is passionate about organic chem, which makes it easy to learn. She will take as much time as you need outside of class to help you, and as long as you are there for lectures to get the material and are engaged in class (ask ?s), you will pass. I had her for 121 Lab and was elated to see she was added for 122 for Fall15 quarter.
She seems very unsure of herself and will ask the class if her work is right& can't seem to solve a problem without her own notes. Her tests are the best 25/30, so they're okay, but if you don't have a STRONG grasp on chemistry, expect to be completely lost through every lecture. You must pay for an access code for all mandatory homework.
Gunda is really passionate about chemistry. She is willing to help if you ask for it. On every test she gives you the chance to earn at least 5 extra credit points. Her lectures are really good as long as you attend class and ask questions.
Padmaja is an adorable person with a love of chemistry. She's intelligent, and if you ask questions outside of class she's great. Her accent isn't hard to understand. The main problem with lectures is that not enough time is spent on the topics. Board problems aren't completely solved to their logical conclusion because she expects you to know it
professor Gunda is really good at helping you understand chemistry. i felt like she really cared that her students not only passed the class but also learned something from it. everyday she will review what you have learned the day before, which helps a lot. she also reviews for the quizzes and test. she will repeat stuff you learned so it sticks!
I liked her class. She has an accent, but you can understand her pretty well. She is very knowledgeable and always asks the class if they understand as she's teaching.
She is more than willing to help any time she is available. Her accent is not that serious; it was very easy to understand her. I love the way she says eight or deriviative and she was always in a good mood. The only thing would be she asks questions and when not answered tends to feel like she is yelling but that is her tone. Read people!
Her class has been by far the worst class I've ever taken. If the class doesn't respond to one of her questions, she pretty much just shouts the same thing over and over. will not take her again. she changed exam and quiz dates multiple times with out warning.
The Good: always starts the day with a smile. Continuously asks if the class understands what she is teaching so far. Accessible outside of class. Bad:Homework not specific to what is covered in class. Does not outline what you'll need to know for tests or quizzes. Not helpful via email. Very fast paced teaching style. Dreadful labs.
She is a great professor. I like the ways she teaches very much. She is always willing to answer the questions. I got 4.0 pretty easy.
She is very caring and friendly. She smiles all the time. Her lessons are not hard to understand. She always reviews the quizzes and exams. The extra credit points are very easy to get. It was comfortable when I was in her class.
I thought Gunda was an amazing teacher, she is very willing to help. She repeats information multiple times because she uses a whiteboard isnt of PowerPoint during lecture. I was extremely nervous after taking my first quiz that I was going to fail the course but I just had to adjust to her teaching style. Shes wonderful, taking her for 123 also!
she is wonderful teacher, I would recommend her.
Dr Gunda has a great way of relying materials in a fashion that makes the information stick. She spends the first few minutes of class reviewing and then gives new materials. She uses interactive lectures and the whiteboard with very occasional powerpoints. No pop quizzes, usually one quiz a week with a test the following week. Great teacher!
Padmaja is a wonderful teacher. She gives so many opportunities for extra credit. Tests and quizzes are straight forward. I would highly recommend taking her.
I've taken Gunda for Chem121 LAB & now Chem123 Lecture+LAB. I wish I had taken her for Chem122 also. Quizzes are pretty tough, they are not multiple choice so do not try to BS your way through. Quiz/test dates are not planned dates, but I never had an issue with it. She is kind, very knowledgeable and was one of the best instructors I have had.
A rough class at times but easily one of the best Chem teachers I have ever taken. She can be a tough grader at times but participation, attendance, and extra credit assignments help a lot in her course. I would recommend her to anyone.
I highly recommend Dr. Gunda for all three Chems. She is easy to understand and cares about your success.
Dr. Gunda is a great professor, with her background in chemistry she is able to clearly explain and clarify any concepts! She actually cares about her students and doesn't let us stay confused. It's a tough class to take, make time to study study study! There is some extra credit available too. Homework isn't too hard, online exams, in class quizes
Gunda is a great professor. Everything she writes on the board is what is on her quizzes so youre never surprised. She does have opportunities for extra credit which helps a lot. Overall, shes funny, helpful and a fair grader.
Gunda was a very good professor. I liked that instead of powerpoints, the lectures were written out on the board. Hard chemistry concepts but there were so many opportunities for extra credit to help out your grade
Hard class period. Professor gives good feedback and is always willing to help. Do not take in the summer. Same amount of work, less time. Quizzes every Monday and Exams every Thursday as well as a five page paper and presentation due as your final.
Dr. Gunda is a great teacher. I like her teaching style. Her lectures are interactive with the students. she writes her lecture notes on the board, so it was easier to follow. Everything she goes over in lecture is on the Exams and quizzes. She does give some chance for extra credit, by going up to the white board and trying out some problems.
She is a very good professor. However, if you aren't in class you won't pass. It's all about practice so do the homework and ask questions. If you are lost ask for help because the course builds on earlier chapters.
Professor Gunda is amazing! I have been taking chem classes for awhile and her class was the first one I felt confident in and willing to participate. She makes lecture fun and engaging. Would take her again for sure. She gives a lot of opportunity to gain extra credit and participation points to raise your grade.
I took her summer class and it was the best Chem class i have ever taken. I would definitely take her again. Lots of extra credit and she has very detailed notes. Always went over what would be on tests and quizzes, no surprises.
The Quizzes are based on the Lecture. The Exams are based on the book. Participation in class will help with extra credit. Dr. Gunda is very willing to spend time individually to answer questions if one does not fully grasp the concept in class. It is very obvious that she knows this material inside and out, and has a passion for teaching it.
There were 7 quizzes , 7 exams plus homework, labs , presentation and 5 page research paper. I dont recommend anyone to take it in the summer . Its too much work in such a short period of time. Gunda is a good Professor but the class is hard and you definitely have to put a lot of work . Quizzes are the hardest! One exam and one quiz is dropped.
Shes a good professor , attendance is mandatory , there is extra credit and participation points. Her quizzes are hard but she dose tell you whats going to be on the quiz. She cares about her students passing the course. Summer quarter was hard in such a short time.
She is a great teacher, you can tell she really knows what she is talking about! You can't expect this class not to be hard and you obviously have to study but she gives you so many chances to succeed and there are endless resources to help you as well as lots of extra credit opportunities. Do the homework, take the practice quizzes. You'll do good
Gunda has been one of my favorite professors at CBC. Her lectures are very clear, but she is happy to slow down or stop and explain at any time if the students need. In class, she offers many opportunities for extra credit that help a lot by the time the end of the quarter comes around, so take advantage of them!!
You can earn a good grade in this class, if you read the text book, attend lectures, do the homework (without procrastinating), participate, and do extra credit. Exams are tough, so you need to study. I didn't take Chemistry in high school, so I asked a lot of questions and she answered them clearly.
Padmaja is an amazing professor. It is very obvious that she knows what she's talking about. There is opportunity for extra credit almost every day as well as on every test and quiz. Lectures have lots of information but she is very willing to slow down and explain in more depth if you ask.
She pulls information from 5 different places which can be hard. But I learned a lot and there is a lot of extra credit available. For my first time taking chem 121 I did very well and would recommend her to everyone.
Teacher made learning chem so easy. Took a hybrid course so she sets up slides instead of asking for a textbook. I like that we didn't have to buy a book since they get pretty pricey. Teacher shows interest in each individuals success and give so much opportunities for extra credit. Has been one of the best professors I've ever had hands down.
Good choice. Just a little hard to understand but she is always willing to go over it.
Padmaja is a great teacher. She really knows the subject. She is very clear in her assignments and instructions. She really cares about her students and wants everyone to succeed. She didn't make us buy the textbook for her hybrid class which saved us about$120! There are alot of opportunities for extra credit, which can save your grade in the end!
Gunda is a kind and organized instructor. She does an excellent job in presenting concepts; with many practical examples. She is very gracious in giving opportunities to elevate your grade if you consistently participate in class. Lab was well explained and straight forward if you were prepared.
I loved Gunda! I was honestly dreading taking O Chem but she made it an awesome learning experience for me and made the concepts understandable.
Great professor! Not only does she care if you understand the topic, she explains it more than once in case it doesnt make sense (topic can be difficult). Gives a lot of chances for extra credit, and is not they type of professor that talks all period- she actually writes problems down on the board and allows students to work their way through them
This class is going to be hard no matter who you take it from, but she's the best. Gives extra credit every lecture period, counts attendance. Tests are online and multiple choice, quizzes are in class and you have to show your work. Posts a lot of supplemental material to help you.
Took Gunda for the chem121 hybrid course. The course was fast and a lot of work was done on our own. We met once a week and Gunda tried to cover as much material as she could. There were no surprises on quizzes, which were in class. Exams were tough since they were timed and from the book , but they were online. Gives so much extra credit!!!
I took Gunda for Chem121 and it was a hybird course. For this being a hybird class it was GREAT! She is the most amazing professor and so caring for her students. You can easily get a 4.0 in her class with all the extra credits she offers. It is a bit of a challenge because part of it is trying to learn on your but Gunda does a great job going over
Gunda is an outstanding professor, however, the course material is HARD. She makes up for it by giving TONS of extra credit opportunities and grades fairly. She goes over topics if you do not understand them and has at least 20+ hours a week of office hours. Attendance and participation is graded, alternating weekly between taking a quiz/test.
Professor Gunda is very knowledgable and explains everything so that everyone can understand. She responds quickly to emails and cares about all of her student's success. The course work can be difficult but as long as you go to lectures and study you will pass.
She is a great professor shes really kind and tries to get everyone to participate which I think is awesome. At first, I was afraid to take her because I heard that she had an accent but I had no problem understanding her-she spoke fluently. Beware don't break anything in the lab she WILL scream at you. BUT by all means she's awesome!
Extra credit available but you do have to go up to the board! She is open to suggestions on what would make it easier for you to participate so do go see her after class! Super kind lady, very very good lectures! Sometimes she might go a little fast. Read the notes before class. Ask her Questions even if it means showing up to her office. Goodluck!
She loves it when the class comes up to the board to solve equations. So many opportunities for extra credit! Make sure to be in class everyday since her lectures are dense. It's hard material, but she is a great professor and wants you to be successful.
Clear Grading criteria, online exams, Amazing lectures, Accessible outside class. Offers plenty of extra credit and participation points.
I was really apprehensive taking this class, but Professor Gunda really strives to make sure you understand the material. She offers a lot of extra credit opportunity, so always brush up on the material before class to make sure you don't miss out on extra points!
Professor Gunda is an excellent teacher. She is very caring and wants her students to excel. Extra credit is offered throughout the quarter. I wasnt super excited to take Chemistry in the beginning, but have learned so much and the material is very interesting, so much so that Id like to continue on with the series with this professor.
Professor Gunda was an amazing instructor I took her for 121 and 122. She loves teaching and if you need help she is always there to help you you just need to speak up and ask. Extra credit is given in her class and also participation point. she does take attendance and puts it as a grade. You don't really need the book.
Good teacher. GIves a lot of extra credit making a 4.0 easy. Take her practice tests and quizzes. They give you a good idea of what to expect.
I took Professor Gunda for both Chem 121 & 122. Organic chemistry is HARD but professor gunda is willing to dole out participation points and plenary of extra credit if she sees students are working hard.
She wants you to participate in class so she offers extra credit if you try and work problems on the board. she's a fair grader and very understanding of her students.
She's a very good teacher and cares about her students. If you do the work there is no reason you shouldn't pass with a 3.5 or above. She also gives lots of extra credit.
Gunda is probably my favorite teacher that I've had so far. Shes extremely caring and takes the time to explain things. Lowest quiz, exam, and lab grade gets dropped. Material is hard and work load is heavy (as is expected in chem) but theres no surprises on tests. She also offers an insane amount of extra credit. Would absolutely take her again.
Padmaja Gunda is such a great teacher. She really loves what she does and genuinely cares for her students. Lots of homework and in class work; however, that is what helps you succeed. She offers tons of extra credit, simple explanations for easier learning and makes chemistry a lot of fun. I would take her again and again, she is awesome!
LOVED HER!! Would take her in a heart beat again! Kind of hard to understand in the beginning since she has a heavy accent but you get used to it. Participate as much as you can because those extra credits add up and can save you at the end! She really cares and wants you to pass!
I took her for all three chemistry courses (121,122,123) and she really is helpful. Her grading criteria is clear, gives extra credit each day a max of 5 points if you participate in class. Provides helpful study guides and practice exams. She records her lectures but I'd suggest you show up to class because attendance counts up to a certain point.
I really enjoyed having Gunda for a teacher and her class was not difficult to pass and I am currently taking her for 122 but I will say that you almost cannot ask her a question if you are confused because she will make you feel stupid
This has been one of the hardest classes I've taken the 3 years that I've been here at CBC, she gives out so much homework every week plus labs, she doesn't really help you and expects you to know the material. Doesn't respond to emails ether, every week we had quizzes, plus exams, Cengage homework plus weekly notes that were about 15 pages long.
I took Gunda because of all of the good reviews, she must be phenomenal in an in person setting but online was ROUGH. She expected us to know everything by teaching ourself, made you feel dumb if you asked questions, took FOREVER to grade so I wasn't even sure of my final grade until grades were due. We got barely any feedback, if any at all.
Very clear on what she expects but shes always willing to help out. She offers a lot of extra credit.
Most classes were online this quarter. With that said, I think the prof. did a good job of making sure we were forced to learn the material. If you take this class you will get a ton from it, AND get a good grade. In regards to grading, tests and quizzes are less than half the grade and there is ample extra credit opportunities. I would not fret.
Lots of chances for extra credit which are very helpful towards your final grade. Always available for questions during class or in office hours. Notes are mandatory and graded but are beneficial towards your exams and help boost your grade. I've taken her for Chem 121 and 122, I wish she was teaching Chem123 next quarter because she is great.
The best Chem teacher at CBC. TONS of extra credit opportunities. Always avail outside of class to help; truly cares that you succeed. Easy homework due at the end; be thorough on observations for labs for 100%; hard quizzes (read the book even though she doesn't make you!); moderate exams (if you pay attention during lecture you'll do good). A++!
Shes honestly the best chem teacher anyone could ask for. Theres so many extra credit opportunities and I can really tell she cares about her students. If someone doesnt understand something shell gladly explain it really well. Just make sure you listen to the panopto recordings because they really help on the exams and quizzes.
I recommend this professor for anyone taking CHEM123. If you have a question she'll answer them and the grading on tests/quizzes is fair.
Course grade is 51% exams, quizzes and final so if you are not the best at taking tests this course may not be for you. The labs are very fun and useful. Supplemental Instruction was very helpful for me.
Gunda is a bit abrasive at first and similar to the tutor that after they've explained a topic, doesn't understand how you don't immediately get it. Missing a few recorded lectures. Be prepared to take lots of notes as she has a mandatory, min page, note submission. She gets easier the longer you have her, make sure to get a good base understanding
PROF GUNDA IS AN AMAZING PROFESSOR. SHE GIVES A LOT OF EXTRA CREDIT. SHE IS VERY RESPECTFUL TOWARDS THE STUDENTS. I NEVER LIKED CHEMISTRY BEFORE HER, BUT NOW I AM GOING TO TAKE ALL 3 CHEMISTRY CLASS WITH HER. SHE IS AN AMAZING INSTRUCTOR. I LIKE THE WAY SHE TEACHES. IF YOU ARE A CHEM DUMMY LIKE ME, YOU BETTER TAKE HER CLASS.
Professor Gunda is willing to help her students. She's very respectful, and her overall grading is fair. Do all assignments, You'll likely to pass her class.
Dr. Gunda is an amazing Professor. She is very thorough in her explanations of course material. She takes the time to stop and explain more in depth if you are still struggling with understanding the material. She has many extra credit opportunities and gives credits for class participation during lectures. Very genuine and cares about students.
I've taken classes from her twice now and would do it again if I needed to. She is very friendly, helpful, and patient. She breaks it down to the simplest terms for everyone to understand better. Some of the questions on quizzes and exams are a little vague and hard to understand what exactly she wants, but just ask and she'll work with you.
Dr. Gunda makes chemistry less stressful. She provides videos to prepare you before lecture day and answers questions during lecture day and goes over exercise problems. Overall, quizzes and exams are tough be prepare to read your textbook. Dr. Gunda offers a lot of opportunities for extra credit.
Dr. Gunda helped me to really love Chemistry! There were SO many opportunities for extra credit. Her pre-recorded lectures are a little difficult to understand but everything else is amazing! Open-book tests and quizzes as of fall quarter 2020. Great teacher! Would definitely take her for CHEM 123
Such a great teacher. Helps you understand and answers any questions. Took this online, lecture and lab once a week. A lot of notes needed to take and Lots of extra credit options!
Homework is a little difficult but she goes over most of what you need to know in the lectures. Professor Gunda gives opportunities to ask questions in class and participate in class by answering questions that test your knowledge of the material. There was some confusion on asgn dates and labs that can be blamed on the current situation/covid.
Dr. Gunda gives many opportunities for earning extra credit. The material is difficult, but she is more than willing to help you understand it better if you ask.
Dr. Gunda is a great teacher! She gives lots of extra credit and is very helpful.
Profesor Gunda is a very nice and caring professor. She will answer all of your questions and tries to explain everything. Extra credit is available. Lecture was online, participation and attendance matter. Lecture videos were required to watch each week and taking notes. Half of the lab was online and the other part of the lab was in person.
Professor Gunda is a solid choice if you want to learn. She will challenge you and likes to encourage everyone to participate during lecture ( FYI for the shy people). There is a lot of extra credit. Exams contain information from the lectures and labs are easy and fun to do.
Great techer. participation is graded.
You have great opportunities to get a good grade. She explains very well what will be on the quizzes and exams. The homework and notes are very straight forward and you have a lot of time to ask questions. I have taken 3 chemistry classes with her and if I needed to take any more I would for sure take them with her.
Professor Gunda is one of the best CBC professors. Altho be ready to work hard for a good grade. She does allow for lots of extra credit. Lectures were one day a week for 2 hours, we were expected to know the material before class Labs were ok, not too difficult. We had a quiz every week, with a lecture exam every 2 weeks. Expect to participate
This class can be difficult, but DR. Gunda is there to help. She takes her time explaining all her topics and makes sure everyone is on the same page before moving on. You should be passing this class with a 4.0 there is a lot of extra credit that can be done as well.
Chemistry itself is a hard course, professor Gunda makes it clear that this course requires a lot of time outside of class. With that being said professor Gunda does provide the resources to excel in her class whether it is extra credit or providing guidance on what you need help. The labs for chem 122 were also fun!
Dr. Gunda is very helpful with trying to make sure you know the material. She has her recorded lectures for you to take notes and everything she goes over in her lectures and class is on the exams, the quizzes however are based off of the book. She also has a lot of extra credit opportunities to improve your grade though, which helps you get an A.
She is a wonderful professor with giving great instructions in the lab and also with guiding you through them. She makes you feel comfortable enough to ask as many questions as you need too. Yet, this class is not easy if you slack off or procrastinate. She gives opportunities to gain extra credit as well and other points to help out your grade.
Gunda is a great teacher! She offers tons of participation points AND extra credit. If you go to class and participate you're almost gaurunteed to pass. All homework is due at the end of the quarter.
Awful instructor. I loved chemistry, before taking her organic chemistry series. If you love chemistry too don't let her destroy it , just take the courses at your 4 year school even if its triple the price. I considered changing my major because I just cant stand chemistry anymore . she doesnt teach and tests on things youve never seen
I decided to take her class after seeing all of the good reviews but her class was probably the most difficult science class that ive taken at CBC. Her teaching style is really hard to follow, when students answer a wrong question she is kind of rude.
I decided to take professor Gunda because of all her good reviews. Not sure what happened because shes one of the worst professors Ive had. Her lectures are very unclear and when you ask a question she makes you feel dumb. She wont reply to any of your emails either. I wouldn't suggest her to anyone who struggles with chem.
Gunda was a great professor, she required you to attend at least 1 of the 2 lectures per week. She talks very fast in lectures, but she really helps you if you have question. We had to pay for CHEM101 for homework and buy a textbook for this class.
Maybe it was the half-online, half-in person thing but this class really didn't do it for me. The lectures were boring because we would have to do 10 pages of notes the day before and already knew the material. The class average for tests was 61%. If you participate in class you can get a good amount of extra credit.
Makes Chemistry harder than it needs to be. During lectures she gives you a chance to solve problems then interrupts you if you cant finish in 30 seconds. Exams were done in a very odd way, class average was very low.
Hard to understand at times. The class was not difficult to get an A in if you showed up and participated. Labs were very straightforward. Gave lots of extra credit opportunities. Don't waste money buying the textbook, just need the homework access code.
Knows chem well
Gunda is your only choice for 123 and she does a great job in lectures. She cares about her students and is very kind. BUT, her exams are difficult and they have questions that were not covered thoroughly in class. There is also a 5-page essay due at the end of the quarter worth only 25 pts. A ppt goes with it and it's worth 60. gr8 proff tho
Great teacher, super lenient about late work or if you couldn't make a zoom or didn't understand the material. Have to zoom 3 times a week, labs due mondays. Quiz every Saturday and test every 3 chapters. She will explain things repeatedly so you understand. Quiz questions come from book. Pay attention, take notes, do all the hw and you'll be fine.
O chem is already tough in itself, but professor Gunda is always willing to stop and help you understand. Labs were very easy. Beware of mid terms every 2 chapters and an exam every chapter. She offers tons of extra credit which will help you pass in the end. Attendance matters as she grades this and keeps count if you show up.
I've taken Gunda for O chem and now biochem. I've never had so much anxiety in one class. Not only does she shove so much information down your throat, she expects you to completely understand it all. Out class average is super low and we have been failing out midterms. Chem should never be "self taught". We need more time to understand better.
This is the worst teacher I've ever taken. Our class average was low because of the way she teaches. For a class this hard, there is no reason we should be meeting only once a week. Between O chem and Bio-chem, I've barely retained any information. If you have a choice to take another chem teacher, do it.
I would not recommend her to anyone that isn't willing to put the most effort in to get an average grade. Her exams are extremely difficult and she doesn't answer questions clearly. She expects you to understand new concepts the second you arrive in her class and extra credit isn't much help either. I would never recommend her to anyone.
I struggled the whole class. Chem was by far the hardest and will not be taking any additional chems.
I took Dr. Gunda for 121, 122, and I'll be taking her for 123. She was recommended by a previous student and I wouldn't take her class with any other professor. You can makeup the Aktiv quizzes at end of the quarter and do midterm retake. Do all HW's and quizzes, there is LOTS of extra credit offered. If science is not your forte, Gunda is for you!
Honestly clueless as to how she has any good reviews. This class felt like a full time job. Prepare for self-taught learning and to bend over backward for the bare minimum, 2.0 grade. If you care about your GPA taking this class with Gunda is 100% not worth it. By far the worst professor I've ever had.
This is like a full-time job! Be prepared for loads and loads of homework, quizzes on both Canvas and /Activ website, lecture notes must be a min of 10 pages. 2 midterms and a final. midterm and final due in 2 last 2 weeks. no time to study and test material will be on chapter that we have not yet covered so get ahead if you can.
This class was really hard. Professor Gunda is a really kind human & knew what she was talking about.
Don't take her!!! I had to self teach myself this ENTIRE quarter!! She expects you to put her class on a high pedestal than your life, and doesn't explain very well! This class was not like an Intro to Chemistry at ALL. If you don't get 100% on everything, you will struggle because of her grading!
I enjoyed chemistry with Dr. Gunda. It was difficult and took a lot of time studying. But she offers opportunity for extra credit and encourages everyone to participate. She has a lot of patience and encourages students to take advantage of her office hours.
Dr Gunda knows what shes teaching and enjoys teaching! Letting us know that there are no dumb questions. For someone with a lot of anxiety she genuinely means that and she will meet up with you to answer questions or explain material further. I wish every professor was like her. She actually cares about her students and wants them to succeed!!!
Amazing Professor very passionate about what she teaches gives tons of extra credit and is always willing to explains things over again. She uses a great participation strategy in class that works so amazing to keep students engaged in the material. I was scared to take this class but this Professor made it amazing and I would take her again.
This class was difficult. Prof. Gunda is willing to personally meet up with students to discuss topics you don't understand. She is understanding but doesn't appreciate laziness. Her class is hard, but it actually taught me Chemistry. She provides lots of opportunities for extra credit and is upfront about all assignments.
If I could give advice to someone is to not take this professor. She is nice but expects you to go up the board and know the material right away. There are 2 midterms and final and you can't use notes. Overall, I don't recommend.
Do not take this professor. Our class average is so low on tests and she expects you to know the material seconds after introducing it. Felt like I had to teach myself everything and can be rude at times. She is nice as a person but not a great teacher.
The class was extremely difficult. I understand it was a hybrid class but the amount that she expects us to do on our own time is absurd. The class turned into learning the entire subject yourself and then going to class to review, not learn. Although she is nice, avoid taking her class no matter what. In my case, I had no other choices
This is class is tough with a lot of material. She does NOT make it any easier. Her manner of communication comes across as very rude and she will make an example out of your faults in front of the class. There is 2 midterms AND a final. Please if you can take another professor.. do it. Save yourself the cost and struggle.
This class is very difficult, your notes are graded and they have to cover all the topics in the chapter and provide examples. Perlabs needs to be done the night before. Attendance is mandatory. You cant speak during class. You cant make a mistake or you will be used as an example of what not to do in class, and Participation is mandatory.
She's very nice as a person, but comes across as rude when you make a mistake/ask certain questions. Says there's no such thing as an "excused absence" which makes things hard when you have other obligations out of your control. Material seemed both all over and organized at the same time. Proctored quizzes, all a nightmare. Notes/book didn't help.
Dr. Gunda is very nice but this course is challenging - be prepared. Go to lecture knowing the material (read the chapter/complete practice questions) & participate. There are weekly online chapter quizzes + two midterms + cumulative final + homework + in-class pop quizzes + labs. Attendance matters & she offers a ton of extra credit. Buy the book.
Dr. Gunda requires mandatory attendance, 10-15 pages of notes per chapter, in class participation. Test questions were horrible. I would recommend you try to take a different professor! You have been warned if you choose to take Dr.Gunda's class. Good luck to you, you'll need it. I would personally never take a class she teaches ever again.
do not take this class if you don't already have chemistry mastered. the in-class lectures are confusing and if you don't understand something during lecture/make a single mistake, the professor is rude... not an environment i could grow or learn anything in. there is extremely harsh grading that sometimes makes no sense and ruins your grade.
Be warned!! This professor gives out a midterm halfway through the quarter, and then AGAIN at the end AND THEN a final afterwards a week later. How does it make sense to assign a midterm right before a final when I'll be retested over the same things AND it's not the middle of term? There's also a heavy pointed quiz every saturday of the quarter.
Nice person, but can't say the same about her class. Her 'teaching' consists of 100 slides, ppts, and recordings of previous classes that most of the time, you cant even hear right or even understand. There's a quiz every Saturday that's worth lots of points. She uses the lockdown browser that will ask you to record yourself. Don't take this class!
She's overall a very firm teacher. If you take this class, be ready to learn mostly everything at home and have to teach yourself. You will have to spend tons of time studying for this class, BE ON TOP OF THINGS!!! I cannot stress this enough: this class builds, make sure to UNDERSTAND the topics. She will not remind you when things are due!
If you are given the chance to take a class with this professor, DONT. You're somehow required to earn 25 participation points by doing problems in front of the class or answering questions, which is hard when you have a professor that is judgemental and rude. Even though I participated, she gave me a 0, and then closed the entire course after.
class average for the final was a 50%. dont feel like i need to say anything else, regret taking this course.
Coming into this class I knew it was going to be a difficult. I spent 8-10 hours a week studying and doing assignments. The work itself was not that hard, just time consuming. The professor herself was decent but the wording she used on quizzes was a bit tricky to understand. If you need the credits, I would take this class but be prepared to work.
Dr. Gunda is the only professor I've had who grades the content of your NOTES. you are also required to participate by answering or asking questions in class, so you have to read ahead outside of class to be prepared. Chemistry is already a difficult subject but Dr. Gunda acts like everyone should have her level of understanding to begin with.
Let me start by saying at the beginning of the quarter there was 22 students, all but 8 students had dropped by the end of the quarter. There are quizzes every week, including the first week of school. You had to take 10to15 pages of detailed notes each week that you are graded on. She requires two midterms and a final. I will never take her again!
chemistry is already so difficult to learn for some of us.. Professor Gunda really showed me that professors will do whatever they can to make it THAT much more difficult. just sad.
10 pages of notes due the night before lecture. You will have pop quizzes at the beginning or end of lecture. Do not talk of smile in class she will use you as an example. There will be a # of problems on the board and everyone has to go up to solve a problem. There is 2 midterms and a final. Nice person but strict and stern professor.
Easily the worst professor i've ever had and the quarter isn't even over. She doesn't take any time to explain topics further even when we all tell her we're confused. She just says, "come on guys this is easy". like girl you've been teaching this for a thousand years of course it's easy for you. We all collectively failed the midterm.
Tough class, but unstuck study was a lifesaver for prepping quizzes. Gunda's teaching style is rigid, but go to class, take detailed notes, and you'll survive. Avoid this if chem isn't your strong suit.
make sure you can understand people with accents. sit near the board, because she lectures from the corner of the room- not the front. Also, DO NOT take this course when there are holidays on your lecture days, or during the summer. You need literally every minute of lecture time you're given if you actually want to learn the material.
10 pages of notes due before a lecture, a pop quiz before starting the lecture, you have to earn participation points by going up to the board and solve the problems. You have to get the answer right to earn the points. Proctored quizzes. She seems nice but will make you feel dumb if you are confused about something (everyone was).Don't recommend.
Dr Gunda provides pre-recorded lectures. Watch them BEFORE coming to class! Staying ahead of her lecture is the key to success in this course. If you are stuck, get help before it is too late as each chapter builds off the previous chapter. There's not a ton of homework but you will need to practice on a regular basis. You get out what you put in.
This teacher is the worst teacher ive ever had. I had her for 121 and i tried to avoid her for 122 others have said the same. She uses Aktiv, you only get 10 minutes to do them and they're hard. I had a computer issue and i got 0 and she wouldnt let me try again. All of her tests are not what she says they are. I could go on and on
Professor Gunda is honestly amazing, Organic Chem is just a hard subject. If you put in the time you can get a good grade. Professor Gunda tries her best to help you learn and understand. Super amazing and nice. Really enjoyed her class.
Dr. Gunda is an amazing professor, if you are willing to put in the effort in her class. Prepare for lectures yourself and study a lot on your own time. If you do this and keep up with the material, lectures, exams and homework will go smoothly for you. Knowing the content is your responsibility, because she does move very fast.
Lectures move pretty fast, but she's clear about what she expects. She wants to help students succeed, although her wording on exams is rather tricky to understand. She does upload pre recorded lectures in advance, which makes it a bit easier. Be prepared to put in a lot of work.
She is a great professor! Some of her coursework can be heavy, but as long as you put in the work you will receive a good grade. She has a lot of opportunities for extra credit. Class participation is a MUST as if counts towards your grade, but even asking a simple question counts as participation so it's not too bad. Overall good professor!
I have no idea how Padmaja is still employed, as awful as she is. She rushed our entire quarter to end a week earlier than the rest of the school, with no reason given. class participation and attendance is graded, and you have to go up to the board to answer questions. If you write something wrong she will call you out specifically and shame you.
