Very helpful. I have a hard time at understanding math but Tanniru really makes it clear and pushes you to understand the material. Probably the best math teacher I've had at SJSU
She is a nice lady, who really wants you to learn. Come to class, and you will understand the material. Reviews a lot in class. HW is usually not bad. She doesn't have a thick accent btw, just slight, so you can actually understand her!
When I first walk into class I thought it would be an easy class because her examples were clear but as the semester went on she got really confusing and the online hw is nothing like the test so it doesnt even help out alot, she goes over alot of material at once and gives a quiz every week, its sucks and i always went to office hours&its still ha
Avoid this professor. She is horrible! First of all, her hw assignments and examples she does have nothing to do with her tests. When she went over things and asked if anyone followed, if she saw two peoples hands go up she'll just move on. I gave up on the class before the final and opted for a C- to take it over for a BETTER grade and prof.
homework and examples in class are completely different from the test. She goes over the material way too fast. Most of the time was just trying to get all of the information down in my notes instead of actually learning the material. Be prepared to teach yourself!
Just like the comment on here 2011 her teaching methods are horrible. Math homework should be done on paper and pencil be prepared for online homework. Which is much harder to learn from and you spend more time trying to figure out what the computer answer vs what the actual answer is y=1 isn't the same as Y=1 apparently.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR. she is the worst teacher I have EVER had in my life. VERY unhelpful in office hours, midterms are EXTREMELY difficult. homework has no relevance to test material. she has good intentions of being a good professor but she's just an awful teacher. find a different section.
Horrible class. She tries to be a good professor but she does a poor job. Her hw is pointless, when it come to midterms and final. Weekly quizzes. Online hw is a pain because answers have to be typed a certain way. She's a nice person but a horrible professor
very good professor. she is very helpful and is always willing to help you understand the material. people who actually want to learn will have no trouble passing with a good grade she is an excellent professor.
very professor.willing to help students with the course. teaches it very well. if you are willing to do work you will have no problem passing this course i dont know why she has any bad reviews
very great professor. she is very helpful and is willing to work with you to fully understand the material. The class is not an easy A but it is possible if you are willing to work. i dont know why she has bad reviews, she is an excellent professor.
She is very good teacher. She is very helpful and understanding. Attend her class and you'll pass. Her notes are very clear and concise. I give her a 9 out of 10.
Helpful, she makes herself available for students to get help. When you don't understand something just ask her and she will take the time to do the problem again while explaining each step.
It's like any remedial class... Review is good. Sometimes it feels like she's yelling at you when she teaches, but she's very helpful and truly wants likes teaching math. Very approachable.
Very nice lady if quiet in class, unorganized, doesn't prepare you for some hw problems assigned, and can ask questions in a confusing way at times. Quizzes/online hw every week, 3midterms w/ review pckt prior for extra pts. Drops 2 quiz grades and gives extra pts/tries on hw. May need to teach yourself some material that she doesnt explain well
She does not respond to emails and never goes to her "office" hours. You can barely understand her with her accent.
She is a really nice professor who is always willing to help in office hours. She does like to stick to the lesson plan so sometimes races through sections. She also uses webassign which I personally dislike, especially when she assigns so many problems. Overall alright.
She constantly says "Isn't it" even when it doesn't apply to the given question. She gives all homework online, gives quizzes almost every Wed., three midterms and a final. Lets you use notes, but no actual problems. Teaches the DUMBEST topics though
I can honestly say ive learned much from her. She is a great teacher overall. Its ridiculous how you someone would even say shes not helpful.. If you dont pay attention than thats all on you, shes just doing her job and you should do yours.Shes a great teacher over cant say anything bad. Teaches with much clarity :)
I love the way she teaches. It's concise and to the point. I have NEVER been a fan of math until she was my teacher and taught everything with extreme clarity.
She is a good teacher who cares for her students. Her explanations aren't always perfect but they are good enough btw. Her english is totally fluent. The tests aren't very difficult.
She's a good person but not a professor. My high school pre calculus was harder than this! She teaches things already learned in high school and random topics. We didn't use numbers until the end of the semester. She never responds to emails and assigns projects that don't relate to the class. I didn't learn anything useful.
I really like her because she would postpone or give take home quizzes if the class is not ready. Her tests and quizzes are not too hard.for quizes, Just do some hw problems and look at the examples. I failed one test and got B+ on other two and still ended with A. I would highly recommend her since she is really nice and helpful in her office hrs.
Great teacher, takes interest in what she is teaching and wants her students to succeed. Good teaching methods and very smart. Gives quizzes every week and 3 midterms. I wanted to take her again for Math 30, but she wasn't teaching that course.
She's a very helpful instructor if you attend her office hours. If you understand the homework, it would benefit you throughout the course.
if you're talking notes and study from them and from the weekly quizzes you will pass with an A-. thats all i can say, she was a great prof, she funny and she help the students with grate changing decisions that boost your grade.
She is one of the best professor, 3 midterms and final . she gave a lot of hw, but she also try to help her students with extra points by doing some hw
She is very helpful, but sometime she confuses her students. You can visit her during her office hour if you need help on her homework. She never say no on the questions students ask.
She confuses you when you ask for help. I had her for the summer section and she had office hours but she never stayed. If you ask for help she goes very fast. I personally don't like the way she grades. This class is passable if you study! There is a lot of homework! She is nice and approachable. She great but you need to work for the grade.
She has stumbled English sometimes, and the concepts can be really difficult toward the end of the semester, however if you go to her office hours she will help you tremendously on whatever you need.
She is a fair grader and she is really helpful if you come in office hours. Also, You have to try really hard in her class because Math 31 is not an easy class.
YOU THINK U ARE GOING TO FAIL this class but there is literally at least a 10 percent overall curve.
Very clear during the lectures. Her only downfall is that sometimes she goes through the problems too fast for her own good and makes little, but easily fixable mistakes that are most often caught by the class before is messes up the whole problem. She drops your two worst quizzes and 1 midterm, and offers extra credit on midterms and the final.
Sometimes a little disorganized in lecture but very helpful in office hours and really wants to give partial credit. Lots of webassign homework but its a surefire way to get 25% of the points for the whole class.
Took her for Math13 & really liked her especially because she really wants to help her students to pass & make sure you understand the material. One of my favorite math professors. She gives extra credit especially if she sees that the class is struggling. Her final is on all the chptrs lectured, so make sure to do H.W, review packet & ask for help
You can ask her anything and she will explain it. Her helpful tone doesn't change when you feel like your asking a question that you're supposed to learn a week ago. She asks about possible missing assignments you can turn in at the last day to help your grade. Keep up with homework and sleep. If you don't ace the only quiz maybe you are not ready.
Padma was very clear and caring towards all of the students in my class. She is always patient and explains multiple methods well. Students love her eventhough she does give a lot of homework.
It was pretty hard.
Honestly, she's a great teacher with difficult tests. If you're not a good tester, don't take this class. I do have to say that she's a generous grader in terms of extra credit, that is if you have the general idea. It was difficult though.
Take this class at your own risk. You have to work extra hard for the grade. Midterms are challenging, but she drops the lowest one if you score higher on final. There was some curve at the end, but not significant. Do not take with other challenging classes if possible.
Homework is given on webassign, which is easy to get 100% on if you try. She assigns extra credit review packet worth 5 points, but its really long. A lot of midterm problems come from the homework and extra credit review, so it is a good idea to do both. Her lectures are confusing to follow, just try to write down her examples and understand hw.
By far the HARDEST professor I have ever taken, lots of homework, and really hard tests. Messed up my GPA with a C
Lectures are easily understood, however, quizzes and tests are nothing like the homework and lecture. Study and practice difficult problems if you want a good grade.
She really cares about her students and will explain concepts if needed. There is a lot of homework on webassign but it's just time-consuming, not *difficult*. She drops your lowest midterm grade for a higher final; she drops your lowest quiz as well. LOTS of partial credit, but the test questions are hard enough to warrant it.
gives a bunch of homework that is not too hard to solve, but makes the test extremely difficult without giving us enough time to finish it (8 problems within 50 minutes). Does not understand the concept of time
She give us so many homeworks that are not helping us at all, and she spend so much time on stupid things in class. Her homework is nothing like lecture.
Lectures are decent, although she goes kinda fast. Her notes are very organized, and she offers extra credit before each midterm, usually. Her tests are reaallly hard, but partial credit saves you. As long as you show all your work AND DON'T LEAVE ANYTHING BLANK she'll give you some points and you'll end up doing ok in the class.
Prof tanniru is really nice and good when you need help one on one, that is IF you can find her/get a hold of her. She goes very fast in class you almost cant even keep up. She gives a ridiculous amount of hw and expects it to be done in such a short time since she is "busy" and sometimes doesnt post hw until 2 days before its due. Beware...
Tanniru tends to over-explain examples that don't need that much explaining. She spends about 10-15 minutes trying to explain one problem, ONE! She also talks fast when doing lectures and you just lose focus on what she's saying. Just give us the example, go step-by-step on how to do it, give us the answer, then go to the next example. SIMPLE.
Like the others said, she talks fast and it's hard for the students to focus on an example. She wants to quickly finish as many sections as possible and to me, I don't see that as a good way of teaching a class. HW assignments are heavy (30-40 ?s). She gives extra credit, but they're 100+ problems. If you want a good math prof., she's not the one.
Her exam are harder than average. It is not a class where you learn the concept and move on. She will put some of the hardest questions on the midterm to make sure you fully understand the problem and the worst part is that the class never seem to be able to finish the midterm on time. Would avoid if possible, otherwise, be really prepare and study
The amount of webassign homework questions is ridiculous. Almost 200+ problems per each section that take many hours per night to do. Her midterms and finals are unfair as she will put the hardest question possible. Do not take this class unless you really want a big challenge. You really need to think outside the box to solve these questions
Every single week we are given about 4 hw assignments due in about 3 days with about 50 points each. If you're lucky, you'll have hw whenever you have workshop. Half of my workshops were useless due to lack of work given. The other half was a giant pile that almost no one would be able to finish. Even then, tests are even more difficult than the hw
Most students in the class failed the course, only 1 student got an A, and the professor shoved 3 chapters of material in 1 week onto the final. She's a nice person, but an awful professor.
She over explains during her lectures which have nothing to do with the homework and tests. So i don't understand why she is even a teacher. Her voice is annoying. Wasted money on a textbook when we have to register for the online one anyway. Switch out while you can. math 903 is easy and she makes it difficut
She spends so much time on unimportant parts during her lecture and its never similar to what she assigns for homework. Terrible teacher. Her tests are incredibly hard .
Probably the worst professor ever. Tests are stupid hard and have no correlation to homework. You're honestly better off with anyone else
By far the one of worst profs. at state. Homework is on web assign and there is a ridiculous amount, although it is only worth 10% o your grade. Tests are hard, with the most difficult questions that do not have anything to do with previous lectures or assignments. 100% recommend to take class with any other professor, simply avoid her.
She gave us up to 100 questions while other teachers were giving out 40 max. Her midterms are just impossible to pass, I got a F, D and D on all three midterms. Fortunately, she didnt write the final so I did great. But there is no translation from our test results to grades cause I ended up with a B. Also, she posted grades on latest day possible
Here are two pieces of advice if you have her: 1. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT 2. DON'T LEAVE ANY QUESTION BLANK ON EXAMS I passed this class even though I got a 50% on the first exam. I applied those two pieces of advice, and I got good scores on the other exams and final. She gives so much partial credit on exams, which will save your grade.
Do not take, out of a 20 student class only 7 were able to have a chance to pass if they did okay on the final. Most did not.
Taking her class will severely interrupt your study on your major subject. Ridiculous amount of homework, super long and difficult midterms. Expect to spend at least 5 hours every week just to finish the homework. However, you will fail this class if that's all you did! Expect to spend at least another 5-6 hours studying if you want to pass.
DO NOT TAKE! She never listens to her students. Today, literally half of the class went to her and demands a reduce on the HW. But she didn't care at all. She even asked, "why don't you just spend 9 hours every week and finish all the homework I assigned?" Seriously, I'm really thinking about talking to the deans about this situation.
Tanniru came 15 minutes late to class when we had a midterm. The midterm that she thought was "easy" was six pages. She assigns so much homework on materials that she does NOT cover in class. We never know when she will give a quiz or what material it will be on. As a math teacher her motto in life is "Negative numbers are my weakness" (Tanniru).
You better have taken Calc 1 before or else you will be in big trouble. Simply don't put yourself in this situation and take another professor. This is San Jose State not Cal Berk!
In her "flipped" class: she would send us an email of what to be prepared for (a lot of work). When you come in, she expects us to already know the material and proceeds to give you worksheets to work on with your groups. She gives a LOT of homework I almost never finish. Exams are TOUGH, it's rare to know someone who finishes.
The grading criteria of this class is extremely messy. We only have two midterms while most of the Math classes have one at the end of every chapter. Imagine how long every midterm is. If you want to focus on your major classes, if you want to enjoy study, if you want to get good GPA, DO NOT TAKE HER.
This class is unfair. It takes at least 16 hr to study every week if you want to pass. However, unless you are a math major, no one can spend like 16+ hrs per week on a three unit class. Do not take
There're so many things that are wrong about his class, I don't even know where to start. 100 HW problems per week, messy grading criteria, super tough test, garbage lecture. Also, it takes her forever to grade our tests. She literally returned our second midterm to us after final. AFTER FINAL!! Why even bother to return them at all? Don't take her
Who returns students second midterm after finals? Tanniru does! Seriously?!
She is an incredibly hard professor. Her tests are extremely difficult . She is very hard to talk to, and find outside of class. Avoid her as much as possible. You would have to work close to 10 hours every week to finish her homework, and you would need to spend an additional 6-8 hours if you are planning to get a good grade in the class.
Avoid if possible. Understanding the concepts is a start but you REALLY have to learn to get through problems quickly and efficiently if you want to just finish her tests. Tests are overly difficult and are nothing like what you do for homework. Do the Extra credit and do work on EVERY problem on her tests and you should pass. Good luck.
The absolute worst professor I've ever had. She makes you understand the material sometimes but then gives some of the most difficult problems. She'll give 30 problems a packet (2 a week) but you'll end up having over 200 parts. If I'd had any other professor I would have passed in breeze ( I saw other class' work). DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR.
I pretty much had to teach myself most of the material. She tells you to come to her office hours, yet doesn't even show up even after you have made an appointment. It also takes her a few months to grade the midterms which doesn't really make sense because everything else is graded online besides a few quizzes.
The worst professor I've ever had. I took her last semester and didn't learn anything from her. I ended up with a C, and now is struggling in Cal2 because of my poor Cal1 knowledge. She didn't even go through Anti-derivative!!
Unnecessarily difficult tests. You have to COMPLETELY understand all parts of every section to even have a chance to do well on the tests since every problem is like 5 times more complex than what she puts on the homework. Doesn't really care if the class is understanding the material or not. Don't take the risk, find another teacher
She's a nice person, but her tests are way harder than anything she goes over in lectures and I didn't learn much from them anyways. Definitely have to work for a decent grade in the class. Lots of weekly homework on WebAssign.
HORRIBLE PROFESSOR! Assigns a ridiculous amount of homework that is impossible to finish. Nobody ever finished her homework. Never responds to emails. NEVER. Gives quizzes last 5 mins of class and expects us to finish it in 5 mins. Exams extremely hard. NOT allowed to use any formula sheets. Be prepared to fail and retake this class.
ASSIGNS SO MUCH HOMEWORK! IMPOSSIBLE TO FINISH! 75% of class would fail each one of her midterms. cannot use formula sheets on exams, expects you to memorize all of the trig functions. so many people failed and had to retake it. she is seriously one of the most terrible professors at sjsu. horrible professor, never take her.
She teaches alright, but her tests are ridiculous. Its extremely difficult for the time we had, and the stuff she goes over class isn't even close to the stuff on the homework... ALOT OF HARD HOMEWORK... EASILY 4 TO 7 HOURS A WEEK. Best advice: Don't leave anything blank on the test and quizes, and don't skip class.
The content covered in class is NOTHING compared to what is on the exam in terms of difficulty. Way too much homework. The pace of the class is extremely fast. Her lecturing style is confusing and if you take this class later in the day it is hard to stay awake.
The second she walks into class till the time ends she will not stop speaking and writing on the board. As an "A" student, She makes it so difficult for you... Exams are hard
do NOT take her if you want to pass. she will make you use WebAssign which is not easy to use nor clear on instructions. tests are extremely difficult even though you study for them. walks in teaches and runs out.
IMPOSSIBLE TO GET AN A IN HERE IF YOU AREN'T A MATH GENIUS During lectures, she talks extremely fast while writing problems on the board, doesn't interact with students, and the tests are nothing like the lectures or study guides. No notecard allowed for tests. TEST R EXTREMELY DIFFICULT, doesn't care about students and doesn't reply to emails.
I will say this, Tanniru is a very nice lady. However, she makes her class extremely difficult. She walks in, lectures, and walks out. Easily gives out 5-8 hours of homework per week. The quizzes are online via webassign, and are alright. Her exams are extremely hard. DON'T leave anything blank. You really have try hard to pass her class.
If you get her, drop her class immediately. She's a super fast talker during lectures, and her tests are crazy hard. There's really no way to prepare for her tests because the study guides and hw are way easier. If you cannot drop, good luck.
If you take this class, be prepared for a heavy workload. I would not recommend taking this professor if possible. Assignments include WebAssign homework, quizzes, mid-terms, and a final. Homework requires several hours worth of commitment every day during the week. Lectures are confusing, would recommend studying ahead of time if you want to pass.
The lectures are very confusing and lost of people dont really know whats going on in class - do you follow me ? no not at all
- unrealistic expectations for students - grades super hard - always shows up late to class - doesnt reply to emails - confusing lectures be prepared to study on your own DO NOT TAKE HER SHE DOES NOT DESERVE TO GET PAID TO TEACH.
During the COVID-19 crisis, she assumed everyone had more time to do work and assigned extra homework. She doesn't teach her lectures well, and she isn't flexible at all to the needs of the class. Out of the math department, she's definitely someone to avoid. She doesn't even know her material well, or cover all the material for her tests.
I'm a senior with a 4.0 GPA. Despite of how hard I tried (30+ hours studying for each test + finishing all the HW and quizzes), it was impossible to get good grade in her class. No communication. Impossible to finish her tests. Way too much HW. Tests on material that wasn't taught in class / HW. No feedback. If you get her, drop immediately. SHAME
If you can avoid taking calculus with her, please do. Her class is extremely hard, her lectures are confusing, her tests are ridiculously hard, and she barely responds to emails.
If you get her... Good Luck... Advice is to switch out
She is a truly caring and knowledgable teacher. Yes- the class is not easy, but math takes effort to learn. She gives ample practice and is very helpful during office hours! Her lectures are a little fast paced but it's mainly due to the nature of zoom and she lets you take screenshots of her work. Also don't forget she's human so be respectful!
I can confirm that her lectures are hard to follow and that she does not respond to emails. I'm not sure if things could have been different if it was an in-person class. She does technically give you chances to gain extra credit and replaces 1 midterm with a better final exam grade, but, if you struggle in math I wouldn't take her.
If you literally want to suffer and question your existence this is the class for you. Your grade is never posted, lectures are so confusing there's really no point in attending them anyway. One of the profs did not adjust to online learning. the class was terrible, nothing but pain.
I have taken multiple teachers with bad reviews before, and sometimes they turn out fine. This professor is not one of those. Tests are nothing like homework, she has a thick accent and talks extremely fast and acts like you already know the material. She is not a nice person either. This is a freshman class so please, don't ruin ur GPA frosh year.
shes good
I loved Professor Tanniru. She's very wholesome and kind. She responded to emails quickly and although the lectures were a little quick, she was understandable and would clarify if asked. Online teaching is difficult for every teacher right now but you can tell she's putting her all into it. If you do the homework you'll be fine!
really knowledgable and helpful. very kind during office hours. the class is kinda hard so you're gonna have to do the work and actually study but if you do then you're chilling!
let's you take pictures of lecture work and stays after class if you have questions. office hours are helpful too
The last 4 or 5 ratings are a load of BS, super misleading. I am taking her class rn and it is anything but roses. She never responds to emails, checked with other students as well. Lengthy HW but difficult quizzes that do not match HW problems. Midterms are 8 multipart questions (18) to solve in 1 hour. AVOID @ all COST. I blame SJSU for crap prof
So, I've seen a lot of reviews about professor tanniru being a respectful teacher with the student's best interests in class. This is completely false. The quizzes don't match the homework. She never responded to even one of my emails throughout the entire semester. Lectures are ridiculously fast and hard to understand. Khan Academy saved me
Your grade is only available at the end of the term. You have to buy the whole package of the textbook and online homework (Webassign). There are lots of problems and they kind of match the ones in the midterm. Goes fast during lectures, and if you took AP Calculus before it's basically a speedrun with a speedrun of AP Stats right before the final.
To start, I am not good at math, and has always been my toughest class. Knowing this, this is the hardest class I have ever taken. Tanniru is not welcoming or warm, and does not make me feel at all welcome. The homework was not bad, but no matter how well I did on it I would fail tests. She did not respond to emails even with online class.
She was a horrible professor. Graded super hard to where it's literally impossible to get a good grade. Was horrible at communicating as well and the lessons made little to no sense. Random stuff we didn't even study would show up on the test.
quizzes were way harder than what was given in the homework and taught in lectures. she only answered 20% of emails that i sent her
I am truly baffled by positive comments about her. If you have a question she makes you look silly in front of the class. She is NOT outgoing. You can tell she knows the concepts, but showing HOW to solve the problems was a different story. She took 7 weeks to grade the first midterm. If it wasnt for resources such as YT or KA i wouldve failed.
Level of difficulty on tests is significantly higher than other course work so don't expect to just do the HW and pass. She is a SUPER SLOW GRADER, over a month to get the 1st test back which leaves you with no idea where your grade it. The semester ended over 3 weeks ago and I am still waiting for my final grade. Stay away
I really don't understand how some ppl giving her a 4 or 5 rating, because definitely something ain't right. If you take her class you are basically begging to fail. I literally learned nothing from this class if it wasn't for AP calc I would basically know nothing about calculus. Lots of HW, Hard tests and idk for what. DO NOT TAKE I CARE ABOUT U
The worst math professor in my experience. She is a good person, but not a good math teacher.
Extremely difficult class. Midterms contains too much questions. You are never able to fully finish her midterms. Class midterms are in low 70s but she won't do anything about it. Try to take the class in CC where it is easier.
Her lectures are very confusing to listen to, she backtracks alot so its easy to get lost. There's 3-4 homework assignments a week which were at least 60+ problems all together. Weekly quizzes that aren't too bad, the main issue is the midterms which were no where near the same level of difficulty as homework and quizzes & worth like 30% of grade.
made me feel bad for asking her questions, and when I attended office hours, she kicked me out of the zoom mid question.
We did have a lot of homework, however she would give us opportunities to redo assignments or complete missing assignments during exam weeks so that was SUPER helpful! A very interactive professor and really wants students to participate and voice their concerns/questions.
Just wants to help students out, if you open yourself help to getting help she will definately be willing to assist you
Her lecture is designed for those who have taken ap calc in the past or are just well versed in the topics. If not, its very difficult to understand the content of lecture with how fast we went through problems. I spent about 2-5 hours on homework when learning from Youtube. I did not use office hours, so I cant speak on it. Maybe it helps.
There are 4 mid terms and a final. You cannot use any notes, don't rely on your (scientific) calculator as its mainly based on knowledge of steps. Currently taking her class and I have failed all 3 midterms so far (28/100). I am about to take the 4th midterm and final soon and will follow up once I complete them. I recommend taking it at a CC.
All i can say is that she gives way too much homework. She teaches the subjects pretty well, but there's just so much content that the only way you'll pass is if you put in the time yourself to understand
She is a good option if you already are good at Calculus. Her exams are easy and straightforward. The homework is HEAVY. And for me lecture was boring as she backtracked a lot which caused me to lose attention. Overall if you are looking for an easy A and are able to study alone ( Youtube) she is your choice, if not then take someone else
Good lecturer, nice
The homework was extensive and the exams did not reflect the homework at all. The exams were alright if you study a lot. Pay attention to her lectures and always ask questions as she will answer all of them. I recommend taking this class with another professor. There was a curve on the final which helped but all the midterms were difficult.
Worse Math Prof I have ever had in my entire life. Really poor at explaining and I had her last semester. I am retaking Calc right now with a much better prof and I actually understand what is going on with prof Ferdinand Rivera. Padmav teaches really fast and the only people who pass her class have already taken AP calc previously.
I took her for math 31 and math 30. Awful experience. got an easy A+ only I knew the stuff she was teaching and youtube helped a lot. She took 5 midterms for our class because it was short in time so I would recommend not to take the 4 days class.
All the posts that gave her positive reviews are fake, possibly written by herself. If you take a close look at the language of the positive reviews you can smell it is written by her miles away. "Padma is really good", see? Which students who took her class will say that? Truth is, she barely knows her stuff, but grades you on impossibly. Avoid!!!
Professor Tanniru often goes too fast during lectures and tries to fit in many example problems. I had trouble following along with her explanations. She does care about her students, though, and replaces everyone's lowest midterm grade with their final grade, which is a very powerful way to raise your grade if you're like me and get a 50% on one.
Gave a lot of homework so get ready to do work.
Don't expect she can help you! It's all about self-studying! Homework can be overwhelming and sometimes doesn't reflect on the test. She rarely responds to emails. She has two midterms and 1 final which all only consist of 10 questions and they are confusing to analyze and solve. She does offer extra credit and 100% completion of HW counts too!
Not a bad teacher, just consistently shows up late and expects you to get everything first try. She rushes through the material (cuz she shows up 5-10 minutes late to a 50 minute class) and makes simple mistakes in her examples.
Do not take her at all costs. She makes calculus so much more confusing than it actually is. A menace to society!!!
She is an extremely bad teacher. If you see her in your class, avoid her at all costs! She comes to class late every time and goes over the material too fast. On top of that, she gives too much homework with questions she didn't go over in class. Overall, her class is self study. Again, do not take her. Worse mistake of my life.
This teacher was the worst teacher ever! Not only did she create her tests the day of, but when I asked her for help in the class she told me to "ask my peers for help". The homework was extremely hard but the tests were even harder. The only people that passed were people taking it for the 2nd or 3rd time, and they barely passed with a C.
Genuinely one of the most awful professors I have ever taken. Assigns an unreasonable amount of homework, rushes during lectures, and has super difficult midterms. She also does not respond to emails and is not very helpful. Take the course at a community college
She tries to fit too much into her lectures(eg. theorey, proofs, and/or where a formula was derived from but in the most confusing manner ever) which ends up making going at all useless. I still went but basically self taught and it was super hard because the class is already structured to cover a lot of material. Take any one but her:(
Worst prof I have ever taken. Awful at teaching and assigns and unreasonable amount of homework.
To be honest, a lot of these reviews are a bit exaggerated. I do agree with the fact that her teaching style can be confusing at times and that she lets us out late, but it's not hard to get the grade you want. Just grind out the problems on web-assign before the test and you're good. She's pretty nice too.
Tests and midterms are barely based off the homework and no study guide is provided for the test. Good luck on trying to teach yourself because you won't even know what to study for.
Unless you like stressing all the time and wondering if your going to pass this class... Take it.
Avoid this math class!!! The teachers teaching style is difficult to comprehend, leading to extensive self-study. Even if you study hard, the test problems differ significantly from homework, making it challenging. It feels like the instructor enjoys watching the class struggle. You are better off taking this class at a community college.
She is nice, but nonstop talks while writing the entire time, she'll cover important information once and goes over less important stuff all the time, she covers easier problems in class while putting much harder ones on her midterms, her midterms had four times the amount of work than other teachers, and places the homework doesn't correlate.
I agree with everything others have already said. Some things that they didn't include: she would often answer questions with, "You should know this already," and move on; she only gave us review links when other classes got practice problems; she gave us an unreasonable amount of questions on tests (~8 long answer!) for a 1hr period.
Lectures are very confusing and straw from the textbook, despite the actual the midterms being based on the textbook. She also doesn't post anything on canvas, as of the day of my final, the only grade I had on canvas was very first midterm, that was all she posed this whole semester. She is also a poor teacher who often argues with students.
She really tries to help her students pass with lenient grading and extra credit opportunities. However the contents on her midterms are not similar to the homework. So you really have to know the concepts and how to apply them well. Class is extremely fast paced so you will need to do a lot of self study. If you are dedicated you will pass.
Professor quickly rushes through every topic. They go over easy problems while giving harder problems in the homework and tests, as well as unreasonable amount of questions in a 1 hour time frame.
I took her when she taught Math 70X, and it was very difficult. I earned a C- in the class, which is passing for majors except B.A. This was my experience: 1. Her lectures were very confusing. 2. The book and her lectures did not correlate with what was on the tests. 3. The final was MUCH easier than the tests.
Second time taking her and it was still difficult. Her lectures are terrible, so I suggest watching her lectures and taking pics of notes. Her midterms consist of applying everything covered, so each question is DENSE. Students in my workshop class who failed her before now are passing because they had a different professor this semester.
She ZOOMS through lectures for fun, and doesn't explain the little things like literal calculations and just says "Isn't it?" when she skips a calculation step. I've asked her to slow down and she does, and then she ramps it right back up. Had her as a sub for 3 months, and 70% of the class stopped showing up.
Math 30- Avoid her don't even pick her if shes the only teacher left just don't take it. Often says "you should knows this" I went to here office hours the last month for 3 days a week and not helped me at all would tell me just do it and call me over when your done and would go on her phone. worse teacher I've ever had super fast lectures.
She teaches very fast but it is understandable. Her tests are pretty difficult and on all three exams most of the class didn't finish. She doesn't pass out study guides that are similar in difficulty to her tests but another teachers website that has problems. For tests she is a lenient grader handing out a lot of partial credit.
She is a nice professor and does help students but her midterms are terrible. They are very hard and barely reflect on the material we learn. She doesn't care about the students grades and even though most people fail her midterms there's no curves and she moves on. The final wasn't too bad but I am annoyed that I can't see what score I got.
Do not take this professor unless you have no choice. She can not teach. I had to self-learn the entire course and spent so much time on this class yet could never score higher than 55 on my midterms. Most professors at least give you a practice test, she did not even do that no matter how many times we asked. She did not provide basic resources.
Insane. Everyone I talk to from the class is either lost, angry, or dependent on cheating on the tests. Even if you have a passion for math it can be smothered by her if you aren't careful.
Padmavati's lectures can be tough to keep up with. Try using unstuck study alongside the textbook to prepare for exams - it really helped me stay on top of the dense content.
Amazing professor. Tests are a bit hard and homework is a lot! But, lectures are amazing.
Very nice and understanding prof but lectures were disorganized at some moments. She teaches the class and assumes you have a good foundation in basic integration and derivative techniques. Expect to put a lot of time into studying for this class outside of Edfinity homework and study guides. 2 midterms with generous grading and partial credit.
Class itself is hard the department did not organize it well three chapters in an hour and 15 min is actually crazy. Yes she's not the best teacher but that's j bc they expect so much covered in one day hard for her to keep up. She's very sweet and genuinely cares about her students. VERY HELPFUL DURING HER OFFICE HOURS SO GO!
30% HW + 40% 2 tests + 30% final (final is 10% EASY online assignment + 20% HARD actual final). Lectures are confusing and more conceptual than practical. Tests and final were hard to prepare for. Professor is very helpful in class and clearly puts a lot of effort into answering questions and helping out in class.
Professor Tanniru overall is a really good professor. Her lectures are easy to understand, and she gives a lot of in-class practice as well as study guides to help prepare for the final. The math department at this school sucks but you can't blame the professors for that. Show up to class and do all of the homework and study guides and you'll pass.
lock in and youre good
The grade is based on 10% homework and the rest is midterms and the final. She does not update canvas so you have to manually add to your calendar when the HW is due and when midterms are. Her tests are 3x longer and harder than other professors and she posted random links for a review 2 days before the midterm.
lenient grading (replaces lowest midterm score with final score -- such a clutch), lots of examples in class, super helpful in class. if you dont show up to class you will struggle so just do your part. exams are fine if you do the practice/homework.
I made sure to do all the homeworks and go to office hours (she's pretty helpful there) cause I suck at math, and I have been doing fine so far (godspeed). She posts the solutions to her exams which are helpful to review. The workshops that the department organizes are useless and a waste of time.
Look, calculus 2 by itself is a hard class. I had to spend a lot of hours outside of class studying for the midterms. This payed off with the tests, and actually asking the prof any questions I couldn't do during her office hours. Attempt the extra credit on all the tests since they can bump a 65->70%.Most caring prof for m31 in sjsu (im retaking)
She has pros and cons. Her lectures can be confusing, so preparation is key. Homework and tests are tough, but understanding the concepts will help. She also has a generous policy of replacing low exam scores with the final exam grade if it's higher.
Calc is always gonna be hard no matter what, and if you can't pass, you're probably not fit for a STEM path. The classes aren't gonna get easier than this.
