I thought I was going to bomb this course, so I went to see her during office hours. She showed me how to fix my essay and remarked it for a better grade. My marks got better. I'd take a course from her again now that I know what she wants.
Disorganized, rambling, incoherent and angry. Avoid this sepcies at all costs.
She was my first-ever prof in '91. I had her again for ENG 200. You guys are screwy. She's great. She inspired me to work hard and to continue.

She is so bias, she favours the females in class, not open to other interpretations, she admits she not there to teach you anything new from the course description,dosent even try to help you imporve your essay writing, which is why i took the course @n@!

Boring, insipid, vapid, bitter and jaded, malicious and totally unwilling to listen to anyone's opinion other than hers. Vengeful and hates literature, (ironically) unless the moral furthers her agenda of hating everyone all the time for no reason.
wow, she is a very bitter woman, who does not see anyone elses opinion. I had several arguments with her, none of which did anything. For me, she was just another good reason to leave kwantlen all together.

Horrible teacher. Has lots of criticism about your work, yet none of it is constructive. She marks totally based on whether she likes you or not (and she doesn't like a lot of people!) and teaches absolutely nothing.

She taught me ENGL 110 and 200. She was great. She was very helpful and organized. I've heard she marks hard, but she marked me well. Pam was my first-ever instrutor at Kwantlen, and set a positive tone from then onward until my graduation.
She's the meanist teacher I've ever had. Straight out B****, would not recommend her for anyone, even if you think your good in English. Wish I knew of this site before I took her, she class ruined my GPA forever.
You guys are mental. I had her for ENGL 110 and 200 and she was great. She was critical about essay formats, but this aided me for years afterwards. I worked hard in her class and she rewarded me for it. She also wasn't afraid to tackle tough subjects.

She is a compassionate, excellent and dedicated teacher: probably the best instructor on campus and in the Lower Mainland. The people who complain about her are ESL students and those who couldn't get into university. Time to grow up kids! Pam couldn't be better
Terrible teacher. She assigns homework and doesn't explain it until the day that it's due so no one gets it right. If you value your grades and your mental health, you will NOT take her.

I am deeply offended by the ESL comment below. When I came to this country I was an ESL student, I worked hard on my English skills and scored 90+%on my provincial Eng and Eng Lit exams. When I took Pam's class she shot down my writing style and I found she constantly contradicted herself. ****
never hands back assignments! we only have a week left of school and nobody in our class knows what mark they have. she talks about useless information for the whole entire class. sometimes she talks even though class is over and we still are not allowed out until she is finished her boring lecture.
Let's just say that the not so smart students and those who are slackers in class will not show up for 50% of the classes. Those who stick around will get the best of her. Yes, she is hard, but hard teachers make you improve your poor brain cells. If you're a slacker, you'll fail. I guarantee you.

If you have already registered for her class, I recommend that you take the withdrawl instead of going through with the course. You wont regret it.

She definetely picks favorites & is quite unpleasant. Not recommended b/c she never hands back assignments, she's mean, isn't helpful, &tries to degrade students. The only way you can get a good grade is if you show up to EVERY class ON TIME, and she agress with your opinions...otherwise, you're screwed.
Even though I received an A in this class, I have no fond memories of it whatsoever. Pam is a complete man hater who's too busy trying to ram her feminist agenda down your throat to teach you anything. If you value your sanity, stay away because she will drive you over the edge and make you want to cry like a little school girl.
If you get stuck with her, just agree with her points because she refuses to take on any opposing views. Also, don't expect to get anything back, because you're not allowed toa ctually learn from your mistakes, because that would involve her actually putting effort into MARKING the assignments.
Even though people say this pro is very bad, he is fine for me. She explains things clearly. She always willing to help me when i came to her office .
The ratings say enough about this instructor. On a side not, for students straight out of highschool, not taking this b**** can be the best decision you can make at Kwantlen. Pay attention to the majority of the bad ratings, those students know what they are talking about. A good recommendation for English 1100 is Janice Stewart.
Single-handedly the worst teacher you will ever have! Totally degrades your ability to write, and somehow manages to give less than 10% on assignments. Don't miss any classes, and don't even make eye contact she'll find something to slash your marks for. STAY AWAY!!!!!!!

I remember i missed one class, for some reason and next week she confronted me in front of the entire class and basically yelled me for not emailing her or whatever asking about what i missed when i was away. If you're late you have to wait outside, without knocking. The assignments are easy though and if work hard, you'll get what you deserve.

Collects assignments but does not mark them or make any indication that she has read them at all. Only shown marks for two minor assignments at the beginning of the semester, I have no idea how I am doing in the class. She certainly doesn't inspire a love of English.

High need to be in control at all times. Normally in English you get the grade if you develop a thesis and support your claims. She failed me on several assignments because she felt my thesis was too sophisticated for a first year class. She marked me down on definitions because she didn't like the style I used to define them.

Bookham is by far the msot anal teacher ever. She has no regard for your acutal assignment but is overly anal about the presentation of the project. We were required to present our essay in a "non-slippery" two pocket dou tang with a label on it and she wouldn't accept the essay w/o the folder:|! Pamela Bookham is the most annoying teacher ever! She makes me want to hurl and then do it again just because shes irritating. She makes english boring, hard, and disgusting. Expects everyone to know everything and get cocky when they don't know the answer n she does...don't take her for any of your classes u'll regret it.. i know that i do!
Not a fan. I'm with everyone else. Don't want to be mean but come on!...it was slightly ridiculous how she didn't teach us anything and then was surprised when we all did awful on assignments. Go with Karen Inglis...she's what an English teacher should be.

We went over the same story for 6 weeks straight. Dont ever show up late or eat in class.
if you wanna spend a full hour being lectured on the correct usage of pronouns or how to use punctuation more emphatically, take this course. haven't personally been in an argument with her, but i've witnessed plenty. seems to derive pleasure from an atmosphere of panic.

I agree with all the horrible comments here...she is a beast. But, she is a good prof...sometimes. Explains well and keeps interest in those who want to be there. She plays favourites, so I reccommend talking your ass off on the first day and always agree with her. Switch out if you can. Those who are good at english can scrape by.
I have always received an "A" in my past English courses but Mrs.Bookham is by far the most difficult teacher to have! She intimidates students so much that the class becomes a base camp! I am being 100% honest with you right now. Everytime I sit in her class, I am crying like a little schoolgirl inside.
Worst teacher I've ever had. She never hands any completed assignments back and never gives you any critical feedback on work you've done, so you have no clue how you're doing or what mark you're getting. You can't even ask her what your mark is on any given assignment, as she'll just say "I haven't marked it yet but you will know what I do."

like others have said, dont ever take her even if you have no choice, wait till next semester or something. you never get your assignments back so you dont know how youre doing and she gets mad at you if you are late and you have to wait outside until break time to get back into class. i was a few mins late one time and gave me attitude afterwards
Horrible Teacher. In fact, I dropped out of her class because she was so horrible. I havn't taken another english class to this day because of her. She's rude and marks at a scale of a C-. Oh and don't be late, she wont let you in the classroom, and when and if she does, she tried to make you look like an idiot. I don't advise you to take her.
