Lowry prepared us very well for Math 125. She demands a lot, but has ample opportunity for extra credit - you feel challenged, but can still get a good grade. She is good at breaking down complex ideas into simple terms & has goofy songs to help memory.
great instructor. a little on the easy side, but I learned integration just fine without the long hard tests that other instructors give.
PAM LOWRY ROOCCCKKKKSSSSSS!
She's cool and kind of dorky, But she's very good and likes whats she does alot.
I found the complete opposite in this teacher! She was very unhelpful and stigmatized students! She was unwilling to help me out with my tests and expressed her feeling about me in front of the whole class about how I should be like everyone else. I strongly advise you to not take this teacher if you are recieving help from the DSS program at BCC!
It's clear Lowry does enjoy waht she does, but her pacing is too fast. She assigns hw that she doesn't teach. It's an easy class if you have a lot of time to teach yourself based on her notes and text notes. She teaches sections other teachers find unnecessary and don't, and due to her tight schedule, she's not easily available on campus for help.
Loved this teacher! She does go at a pretty fast pace and expects a lot out of students, but is very good with explanations. I had her for Math 125 last Spring and really enjoyed the class. As long as you do all of the homework (its optional) and ask for help when you need it, you'll be able to pass because her explanations are amazing!
Talks too fast. She seems very smart, but cannot convey that info to the class. HW assign's are a waste of time as she does not collect or grade hw out of the book only her assign's. She jumps from one problem to the next without solving either. You are reminded daily to go to math lab or signup($30) to some web site for additional tutoring. AVOID
Mrs. Lowry is an excellent teacher. She is funny and loves what she does. I have enjoyed her class even though it is hard. Doing the suggested homework helps a lot, and if you do what she asigns you can get an A. She does move pretty fast so it is important to be there every day, pay attention, and take good notes.
Pam talks very fast and sometimes gets us lost, but she is willing to help out afterclass.
She is very fast and her lectures are unclear. Her exams are VERY hard and she also grades in very hard way, so, think twice before taking her class. She may be ok for lower level Math classes (again think twice about your transcript), but she is not good for Math 126 or higher.
Grades very strict and doesn't give much credit for attempting problems. Will sometimes take away all points for minor errors.
Very fast, very easy to get lost. You will have to do some review before class everyday. Do not take the class if it is higher than 126. I mean it.
Great class to take if you like pulling out your hair in utter frustration. She is way too fast and confusing. Don't take this class if you're not strong in math, like me.
She was always helpful and answered all your questions, however, during class she went so fast that I lost her in concepts I thought I already knew. Her tests are incredibly long and hard. Can't finish them in the time given.
Ms. Lowry is the best math teacher I've ever had. She is dedicated to helping the class understand concepts and obviously loves her subject.
She's so fun! She's always excited to teach you about Math and she'll explain WHY we do what we do and is incredibly helpful. I really suggest her class!
she's SOOOOO hard, but really good! her test are dificult but you learn a lot in her class. if you are really interested in math 105, she is the one.
Mrs. Lowry was a great teacher. She explained concepts well in class and gave recommended (but not requred) homework every day which helped me learn the material. She also had office time to help students out. She also gave out a practice final so we had a good idea of what to expect on the real one. I would definitely recommend her for Math 105.
Just loved her! - Had her for Calculus 1 (Math 124). Scary subject, but she made it all seem almost obvious. Her enthusiasm for the subject was clearly evident. She introduced each topic with painstaking detail, and she seemed to take genuine pleasure in those moments where the class goes, "Aha!" and saw where she was going before she got there.
She is very very hard. Doesnt care about students. Do not help with questions outside of homework. She is very rude and in my class she didnot explain the story problem to a nonnative speaker saying that its not her problem. We all hated her. Gives lot of questions in test which are very different from text. I hate her.
Non native speaker should not take her class as she gives really hard tests and dont explain well. All my friends failed in her class. I barely got C- in her class. In the first test there was only one person who got 100/100 and he was 35 yrs old. Everybody got around c or B- in her class.
She is the meanest teacher I have ever met. She is not consistant at correcting papers and is very partial. We all hated her. She gives review before test and then she twists the problem so much that it becomes impossible to understand her. Her stroy problem are just hard. If you take her then dont expect a A in her class unless you practise 24/7.
She's challenging- I'm a good student but only got a B in this class. Can go a little fast, but is willing to go back and explain if you just ask! BTW, she is a native English speaker; don't listen to the comment below. Take lots of notes and ask questions!
She is the worst teacher I have seen. She takes 2 to 3 days off in a twice a week class. But if you have an emergency and you ask for makeup quiz or homework assignment then she doesnt help or cooperate. She is the meanest teacher and very rude.
She moves very fast but doesn't mind slowing down if you have any questions, so just ask! The problems on her exams are similar to the ones she does in class and on review day, but the final was something else... Very prompt at grading HW and tests. Overall fair teacher.
She's really helpful.. i don't know why some people wrote bad things about her..her assignment can be hard sometimes, but if you can make the assignment, tests are not gonna be a problem. She willing to spent extra time to explain things that we don't understand. Good teacher..!
Did not like her. Spent many wasted minutes in class watching her complete a problem on the board, only to arrive at the wrong answer. "Oh my, that's not right. Does anyone in class know what I did wrong?" Next equation on the board, same results. Many snapped pencils ensued. If you did not become a "teacher's pet", I wish you luck.
Don't listen to the others. I got an A+ without trying hard at all. She is very nice and yes she does make mistakes, but it helps you understand things better. I didn't really have to read the book. HW is optional, although she has assigned hw a few times. Her tests are pretty easy, and she lets u use a cheat sheet on the final!
I really like her. She gives a lot of work for home and that encurages you to practice. I went from an F on the tests to an A. She also has copies of her old test in the library which you can copy and study off of. She is great. Too bad she is not teaching higher classes.
Took online, sufice to say the class itself is tough.Pam gave us several study sessions to help us on Saturdays.Limited hrs in her office.Gives you every opportunity to be successful. 3 exams, 2 projects, approx 970 points total. Nice lady, makes stats much easier to understand than the book, IMO.
Kind of a mean spirited woman, but nonetheless pretty clear in her teaching methods. Made a girl cry in my class. Watch out for the claws...
I dropped the class. Any instructor that expects you to know her favorite color or get dropped from the class should not be teaching.
One of the best teachers I've taken. Statistics is not particularly a fun subject but I really enjoyed coming to class every day. If you but forth the effort you will make an A.
Pam is a great teacher. This on-line class was very well organized. Instructoe was always available both on-line and in person. She was very helpful when I needed explanations. Textbook was not neccessary, there was an e-book and on-line tutorials, which were exellent. This class was not easy, but she was a fair grader and A is achievable.
Be prepared to spend a lot of time on homework & studying!
I'm ready to complain. She gave me 0/50 on an assignment just because I gave a wrong answer for ONE question. And her instructions are very confusing, and yet, she is not responsible. I'm ready to drop her class. If you're currently or thinking about taking her class, turn around and choose a different way!!!
Be prepared to spend a lot of time learning and doing your homework.
Online class, fairly easy if you like math, but lots of info and very time consuming. Teacher available if you ask, but hardly ever online. Students expected to answer each other's questions. 3 cumulative tests, including final, weekly quizzes and graded homework.
I'm very disappointed in this particular professor. Very hard on grading. Doesn't seem like she is trying to help students, but only undermine them. Don't take her, you will lose your money and time. I dropped this class, will wait until next quarter to take another section of this class.
Took her online class - pretty disappointed. The class structure is entirely designed around an "in class" sort of atmosphere. There are group projects, the assignments are just questions out of the book, but there really doesn't seem to be anything to actually prepare you for the class. Even has a horrible/confusing Vista layout.
Straight forward online class. Mandatory weekly discussion participation. Group projects help to add peer interaction that is lacking in an online environment. Homework is not turned in, there is lots of it and you must do it all to learn the material for the tests. Tests contain no surprises. I would take another class from her in a heart beat.
Worst class I have ever taken! Instructor was never helpful with answering questions, 36-40 questions twice a week for homework, weekly quizzes, and 3 tests including the final! If you don't have more than 3 hours to spend every night on homework, don't take this class!
Taking the class online and am putting in a lot more effort than I did when I got my bachelors degree. Her instructions are vague and she expects you to give the answer she wants on Projects to get a 100%, wants you to learn but expects you to spend all your time on this class, which is near impossible while working a full time job.
Instructor went at a good pace, reviewing what students needed review on. Taught us how to utilize our calculators for easiness. Can be a bit harsh on students who do not understand material after the third time of explanation. Overall though, she was good & I'd take her again.
Pam was extremely responsive, immediately by email. Online classes are difficult, but she tried her hardest to make us be successful in the class.
Math 130. Never had an instructor so disengaged in the course. She used the textbook's site teach her entire course, no lecture notes, no help when asked (instead referred to math lab), assignments were not clear on expectations and grades returned without any rubric. Biggest waste of money at Bellevue College. Advoid her class at all costs.
Pam is a really nice teacher but this class is just over the top difficult. Pam gives clear assignments but no help what so ever. If you get on her bad side you will definitely get no help. In that she grades in a way that can help you pass, not giving anything a heavier weight. Assignments are an easy 100%, on campus tests expect to fail
Took this course online; expect this class to be like a full time job. The material is difficult to comprehend, especially post-midterm. Fair exams, but expect to be teaching yourself everything. Very limited student-teacher interaction (she posted like 5 times on the forums in reply). If math is difficult for you, definitely take this on campus.
I thought Mrs Lowry was great. I took this class online. Mrs Lowry will not do the work for you, she expects that you work with fellow classmates and come to her after already trying it on your own. I read a lot of bad reviews but they are not accurate. This is a tough class and it is not the instructors fault. She was great!
Took this class online. Quite a demanding course; lots of reading, usually 2 chapters per week - 2 quizzes, 2 homework + 1 discussion. 3 cumulative exams that must be taken on-campus or proctored. 3 online projects. Study hard & take good notes, you should be fine. Pam replies to messages promptly, but prepare to do all of the work by yourself.
Absolute minimum interaction with students, no rubric given for projects, same exams used from 5 years ago. Put some damn effort in educating the youth, Pam. It's clear that she's doing this for the easy paycheck and not to help her students learn and succeed. Purposely didn't inform students when class evaluations were due to save her job. 0/100
I feel like I know less than I started. It is basically a self taught course. I do not think teaching yourself Stats should be the way a teacher should conduct a class.
I would not take this class again, and I would not recommend to anyone. I don't like the organization of the class. I don't think, Pam, is careful in grading. She is a tough teacher and expects everything to be perfect. It is a very stressful class.
Too much work for 1 class, material not covered well, a lot of time is spent researching and all of the grading is done on a website for a math class, so if you get the answer wrong even if its for something it won't give you any credit.
WAY too much homework is given. If you end up taking a class with this instructor make sure its the only class you're taking. She seems nice, but there is a ridiculous amount of work to do in one day.
Great teacher! I took this Summer Quarter, so it went by real fast. There is a lot of assignments and online videos you have to watch but it is all very helpful when trying to learn the material. I've never been good at math, but if you put the effort in then you can definitely get an A in this class. She responds to emails quickly which is so nice
Way too hard! In syllabus she says "expect to do 35 hours of homework a week", are you serious?! For a 130 level class? She is great at responding and has awesome notes and videos, but way too tough. You have to be an expert at stats to succeed.
She is an amazing teacher overall, but gives tons of homework. Everything is graded, which might get overwhelming sometimes. Study hard and you will do good. Very interesting subject, loved it!
Very hard class for entry level stats. 48% of your grade is based on three exams. No extra credit at all. She can be insulting at times and cares more about her grading criteria than her students. She is not proactive in her grading I have corrected her a few times. Study several hours every single night and hopefully you will pass. Disappointed..
I've never gotten a C or lower on any class, so this class is very difficult, especially for a 100 level class. The format of the tests is different than HW/assignments, so it makes no sense. Final test is cumulative & harsh grader. If you're not very good with math or online classes, definitely take a different instructor!
Professor Lowry consistently shows that she cares about your success as a student. She is excellent at communication and understanding the issue at hand. She is very compassionate when issues come up and you need help. As long as you are honest, dedicated, and spend the time studying (this class is not easy) you can pass with an A!
Prof Lowry is super nice. Has a good inline lectures. But if you want to learn? you don't like to sacrifice GPA ? don't take it.
Don't take this professor, at least not online. You're basically teaching yourself, not really helpful at all. If you care about learning and your GPA, take a different instructor!
I read some reviews of this course that students didn't like it because they said it's too difficult. Well, they're lazy. I love a good course that gives me A LOT OF VALUE for the money paid for the course! YOU LEARN A LOT in this course, but no pain, no gain, there's lots of homework, quizzes, 3 tests. Work hard, and you'll get the grade you want.
She's an amazing prof very helpful. Her teaching style is gr8 and she's very easy to communicate with. However I see that some people didn't enjoy her online class which is understandable because the material itself is tricky and it has nothing to do with the prof. Attend her class and nt online! She gives LOTS of practice. Which you'll need
The professor is very nice and caring, but the class itself was kinda hard. This is an online class though, so it was expected. You basically have to teach yourself the material with the textbook and professor notes. The exams aren't very hard and reflect the material from the homework and the quizzes.
Heavy work load but overall doable. issues with the class came with the teacher. It's easy to make small mistakes and they have a big impact on your grade. halfway through semest. I had a 50% even though I got a 100% on every single assignment and did every discussion assignment. She's very picky and inflexible to mistakes. I'm usually an A student
Prof. Lowry is really nice and enthusiastic about the class. If you ask her a question she's more than willing to help and there are weekly discussions so that other classmates can help you. The class itself was a little bit hard but I usually fail math classes and got a B. To do well you have to stay on top of homework and quizzes and study!
Weekly homework, discussions and multiple quizzes throughout the quarter help keep you on track and are easy points. Professor is very accessible for an online course through email and provides extra documents, videos and old exams that are great for studying. The homework and quizzes are through connect and exams are written by the professor.
I was led to believe that my grade was something it wasn't up until the day before the final. When the percentage of HW/quizes/exams became accurate my grade dropped almost 10%. I know its up to the student to know their grade but don't lead me to believe its something else. This was an online class & she should have had it organized.
Pam is a great person. Shes somewhat scattered during lectures and sometimes will just say the wrong thing and have to backtrack. Other than that shes absolutely amazing. Her Stats class is definitely not as hard as others but you have to keep up. If you miss an in person lecture its so hard to teach yourself the content, just go to class.
Homework and quiz grades were good but tests really brought down my grade. Forewarning that the format of midterms and final are completely different from homework and quizzes. Threw me off and did terrible on all tests. Also double check your graded work, some may be marked wrong by mistake and if you dont catch it, she wont correct it.
She's so terrible at teaching math, bruh if you love learning from a textbook take this class. Class literally just started and I'm regretting every bit of signing up for her class. Proctored exams and a load of reading, no lectures or content she made herself except insane 7-page projects, good luck. Worst math professor
dont take her class, DONT TAKE HER CLASS. she doesn't teach, only uses aleks, horrible teacher, doesn't make own content uses other peoples terrible videos to explain info, disorganized, extremely tough grader, 50 point assignment with 17 questions but minus 10 each answer wrong, doesn't add up does it and shes supposed to be good at math....
Shes not the most organized and set up everything in the most confusing way, she doesn't really even teach anything, she just uses connect which is basically just aleks, so yeah...
She wouldn't let me get an extension on an assignment on THE DAY OF GRADUATION, didn't let another student get an extension THE DAY that her grandpa DIED, and a student that was in a PSYCH WARD! TERRIBLE! Literally so disappointed and frustrated, I also got 4 points knocked off of a quiz because I typed on the computer the letter U, not the Greek u
Hardest class I've ever taken. She recycles videos that have already been made that are unclear with instructions. Basically every homework assignment took me forever because the videos didn't help and her only advice was "read the textbook". She clearly cares more about following guideline to a T than her students.
Please read the complaints about this instructor. They are largely accurate. Take her class if you want to grow to hate math. If you have to take this class Only do it AFTER you have mastered the entire course. With this instructor, you are going to have to take the course twice. So you might as well take it first on your own time for free.
i respect lowry as a person, but their teaching style and how they run the class is awful. i won't say too much because the others have said it for me already but basically, get ready to learn on your own. quizzes every week, two midterm exams, and multiple projects. i am burnout and unmotivated because of this class. mymathlab is a pain.
If you are a self-learner and catch up on everything yourself, this class is for you. I took Math138 in Summer 2021, and this class is super easy to get an A+. All you need is the online textbook and the TI-84 calculator borrowed from the library. For the Midterm and Final Exam, she allows us to have a 4"*3" paper note. She is very nice!
I wouldn't recommend this professor unless you're: a) strong self-learner b) you already know c) you want to retake this course again There were multiple weeks where the "lecture content" was other people's YouTube/textbook videos. If you just memorize things (that you can't explain) for the tests, then you'll probably do alright. Not for me.
OK just don't. Having Pam asynchronous means that everything you learn will be through the textbook or youtube videos. Self studying is a must and the hw takes hours to complete. She does offer office hours once a week but for me it was on Friday morning (I had another class during that time).
If you are a person who likes to be self-taught, then take it. But I was you this class is a waste. Her system isn't even helpful during the course, and there are a lot of quizzes. We are supposed to come in for mid-term and final, but I got a mental significant gathering problem, she didn't care and I fail the mid-term and got lucky on the final.
THIS TEACHER DOESN'T TEACH, literally all her class is, is watching YouTube videos & taking quizzes on them, which mind you there are a lot of homework/quizzes. And the rare times when I do reach out to her for help she isn't very nice, once insinuated i was lazy on a zoom meeting for not understanding something. All in all avoid her at all costs!
I wish I had listened to what others said about professor Lowry. DO NOT TAKE HER MATH COURSE unless you want to suffer. This class made me want to drop out of college... literally.
The course is test heavy but has extra credit opportunities available. She gives optional extra credit on the final, & grades really nicely. I would say if you are taking this for the first time, choose a different prof, but if you are retaking the course, Pam is great! MML is for HW/quizzes, & takes only around 2hrs to complete/week.
Awful. All "lectures" are ALEKS videos which she recycles, tests on things not done in class, nit-picky, tests are few questions and any minor error loses a lot of points. Does do extra credit but still impossible. Projects, if well-organized, are easy to pass and don't take too long. Weekly non-math discussions can keep a good great afloat.
She's not that bad. There are several opportunities for extra credit for the midterm and final. This class is self-teaching and I used the online resources. She responds to emails quickly, and make sure you read through the assignments/how her class is laid out because it confused me at first.
gives lots of extra credit opportunities, nice but can be snarky at times
The low ratings of this professor are unfair. Homework was really easy, you just have to study the BryteWave videos and you're good. The midterm and final are exactly like the review tests she provides. You get a free 10 points on the tests if you do the extra credit. All in all, if you're not lazy and you can study, this professor is easy.
Shocked to see all of the low reviews... she's a genuinely caring teacher and provides so many opportunities to get your grade up, like fun icebreakers and additional points on tests/quizzes. The exams give you so much extra credit so it's pretty hard to not do well in the class unless you're not doing your work. She's such an underrated teacher!
One of the most disorganized professors at BC, where most instructors are disorganized. She puts up assignments that have no content or explanation, her course plan has dates in it from other quarters, she just doesn't seem like she puts effort into planning and just throws the same thing into Canvas each quarter and doesn't review it beforehand.
Assessments mostly reflect what we learn, reasonable work amt. NOT accommodating/caring. Doesn't care if you're sick, if you didn't do homework/quizzes you're screwed. Just does not allow space for mistakes. My Math Lab teaches everything thru examples. Does provide quite a few extra credit/points and notes in the modules but no lectures.
Ms. Lowry is an amazing teacher, this class is mainly on you to learn everything using Pearson. She gives out lots of extra credit opportunities and has a very lenient late policy (10% off everyday it's late). If you can manage your time and don't fall behind, this class is very easy to pass. But if you do fall behind, it's very hard to catch up.
Unless you intend to get a tutor or are good at math, do not take this class. Does not teach, she only grades, no lectures, difficult to contact. She offers extra credit for simple things and gives you a 4x6 front and back notecard for midterm/final. If you have a very good excuse, like surgery, she can be accommodating. That's it. 92% up is an A.
There were no lectures so it was hard to understand the material. She used pearson for homework and quizzes. The quizzes you are usually 90 minutes and 40 questions. Pam is a good option if taking this class for credit and have previous knowledge. If you are learning pre calc and algebra 2 from scratch then I would suggest a different professor.
The only reason I got an A was because of a tutor. Concepts went by so fast and with little to no explanation and learning in her class was insanely hard. I would not take her again as I had the option to this quarter and decided I will wait till next quarter because there's no way I'm taking her again.
Pam's class is a challenging one, with tests that differ significantly from homework and quizzes. The ALEKS videos can be unclear, so using resources like the textbook and Unstuckstudy are key. Attend class if you can, as the non-math discussions help boost your grade.
I had her for online and the reason I got an A was purely due to self-study using the textbook and homework problems. If you are able to self-study, then this class shouldn't be a problem. She also gives extra credit opportunities.
The most god awful professor I had here if you already struggled with math good luck you will be needing it
