These other comments are an understatement to her teaching ability. She is TERRIBLE!!!! She will say one thing and repeat it differently (wrong) and relies 100% on her powerpt presentation which is just copied pics from the text. I have my bachelors in biology (retaking b/c it's too old for rn program) and she confuses me!! AVOID her at ALL costs!

DON'T TAKE HER: poorly prepared for lab, don't have answers to student's questions: "I don't know" and she smiles and that's that. At least try to find the answer and follow-up with when the questions are about the lab exercises and she should know the answer since she is making us do it! Doesn't know where things are.

Avoid this class. She obviously has no grasp of the concepts she's trying to teach and is ill prepared for both lecture and lab. Often asks questions neither in the lecture nor the textbook on the exam. Contradicts herself and repeats incorrect information frequently. Lectures by reading off powerpoint with no further information.

IS nice but DON'T know how to lecture-DOES use slides/pics/terms/examples COPIED from book. DOESN'T cover concepts-DOES concepts on exams-DOES give essay questions on exams but DOESN'T cover it-DOES give homwrk on materials NOT covered-FOCUS on class cheating more than content of lectures. May be smart but does NOT know how to teach what she knows.

Lecture: Mixes up terms, very confusing, needs to work on her English. Trick ?, poor wording, nonsense ? that are removed, and lots of essay ? (20% pts) on exams that are HARD. Argues with students, must attend office hours to ask ? and get competent answers. PP with little board work, improving here. DON'T take her lecture, wait till next semester

Lab: Not very much help. Self directed work, rushes class even if not done, study for HOURS to clarify concepts. Class scheduled for 3 hours, average class time 2 1/4 before being rushed through the questions. If you want short lab, GREAT. But if you want a good grade be prepared to make it up 3x plus at home. NICE PERSON, Bad Teacher

never answers clearly, with say "it's probably..." if you ask a question, and get a general answer, expect that if the question appears on test that she wants a detailed answer, if most people give general answer, but 1 person gives detailed, she goes back and marks DOWN tests for that 1 student. tests are hard, oddly worded, and confusing, cont..

By far the worst teacher I ever had. Unclear during lecture moves way too fast most of the class in agreement. Basically if you arent on her level you wont understand shes not willing to teach only wants to go over whats written. Big diff in reading and teaching. Class avg are in low 60s. Do not say you weren't warned!! Look elsewhere

Do yourself a huge favor RUN! Will tell you the first day she is a visual learner but refuses to tell you she's a horrible professor. Don't try wasting her time in class with ?s that's what office hours are for so she thinks. Dry personality mixes up words and statements ALL THE TIME.

AWFUL INSTRUCTOR! She teaches at a doctorate level and expects you to understand. Doesn't explain and gets aggrevated when you ask questions. Her tests are a nightmare to decipher! I'm a non-traditional, straight A student, who has taken many science courses, and now I'm barely passing her class.

RUN! Do not waste your semester with this professor. Lum has "poor" teaching skills. Give yourself a chance to be successful in Bio 189 with a different instructor at CSN. I attended all of Dr. Lum classes. Set up an appointment with her. The funny thing is I got A a in Lab and F in Biology. Do not take this instructor, she does not help you.

Do yourself a REALLY BIG favor and WAIT to take the class if Dr. Lum is your only option...I was a 4.0 student until I took Dr.Lums lab. Trying to piece together her unclear and all over the place lectures was a nightmare. I had 0% confidence in her throughout the semester and therefore had a hard time believing anything she said!

Professor Lum is indeed a very nice lady. But by all means she really does not know how to teach. I have taken her for Biology 196 Lab and As said in previous comments she is so unclear and all over the place. it is impossible and annoying to piece together her information shes attempting to relay. such a waste of a good class.

Glad I only have her for Lab! It's very hard to understand when she is teaching because she jumps around a lot. Often it sounds like she doesn't even know what she's talking about. And when my entire class was unclear about an assignment she gave us a lecture about how we were going to have to be more responsible if we were going to be doctors!

Avoid Lum at all costs!!! I saw her ratings and i still took the class because i thought I could study hard and pass. Boy was I wrong! She jumps around the lecture and doesnt cover the chapters in order which confuses herself and her students,she gives no study guides.Im sorry but when more than half the class fails is a reflection of your teaching

She's not very helpful at all. If you decide to take her, dumb it down with things you know. She doesn't give study guides. Rushes towards the end of the lecture. If you ask her for extra work (e.g. study guides, homework,etc.) she won't give it. Don't take her! Even if she is the last resort. You're wasting your money.

Dr. Lum is the worst professor I ever had!I got Cs and Ds for the first time in my 34 years of life!

DO NOT TAKE PAM LUM FOR BIOLOGY 189. I completely regret it. She is not a very great professor. Her lecture is all over the place does not flow good together. She can't teach this class. When asked a question by a student she tells you she doesn't know the answer and that we have to google it ourselves. If you want to pass DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!!

The horror stories are sadly true. I took Bio and medical classes my high school year and I failed her class. I even once studied for six hours each night for a week in prepare for her exam and the best I got was 42 out of 100. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS IF YOU LIKE YOUR GPA AT A GOOD LEVEL.

Professor that does not know how to lecture. She ums and os a lot. She lies to you about what is on the test. CSN is doing a disservice to all students if they keep this professor on.

Professor Lum is not meant to teach, at least not in America. Lectures confusing, test don't even cover what ever it is shes talking about in class, CSN needs to evaluate her and needs to take better care of the students needs, and not let this one keep teaching, shes dealing with peoples time, and careers, STUDENTS BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do not take this professor. She doesn't know how to answer questions most of the time and goes of topic a lot. You can even find yourself studying more than usual & still end up failing. You get 5 exams and she does not go over them. Shes a very tough professor and I'm sure she makes it more difficult than it should be.

This class is not for the lazy! Her lectures rarely make sense & often times end up confusing students. The textbook & YouTube (CrashCourse, Khan Academy) will be your friend. You will need to study A LOT & even then her tests are hard (they're comprehensive & analytical). Toughest class I've ever had but it forced me to learn. You've been warned.

The lecture was side tracked most of the time. Do not study from her powerpoints. You will succeed in her classes by using your textbook and online with khan academy and crash course by just looking up the major topics from each subject, not by what she lectures. Expect multiple choice, short answer AND essay questions on her exams.

Horrible Professor! She does not explain anything that students ask during lectures. She always say I will get back to you with the answer and she never does. Her exams are super hard. She makes biology stressful.

First, she seems really confused. It's frustrating when you put in so much of your time to read and study abs EVERY test at least one question is thrown out because "I didn't write that correctly" or "That one isn't clear is it? She is not a clear lecturer and her exams that are based off of lectures definitely are not. They are not worded clearly, and some questions have 2 correct answers, so you better know which one is the correct one. She asked for feedback in class about her exam questions, I told her they were a bit confusing and she said I was the confused one -rude

Her lab was confusing and she wasnt very involved with students. Every class was a gamble. You didnt know what shed throw on her quizzes. Even if you study, theres no gurantee youll perform well on the quizzes. The quizzes are worth majority of your grade. Also, takes pictures of all of the students on the first day? Dont waste your time.

this was the hardest class I have ever taken.. having Lum as a professor made it 10x worse. she's just so bad i can't wrap my mind around it. all i need to say is DONT TAKE HER.

Worst teacher I've picked yet. I studied for hours for the exams and I ended up getting low C's anyways. Believe me, she is SO difficult. Lecture every class, and she goes WAY too in depth over things we aren't getting tested on. She forgets that we are non-majors. Tests are difficult. Don't take her, you'll be sorry.

I took her for biol 251 Lab. 1. She is not a very clear person when it comes to explaining things. 2. She tends to go off topic a lot. 3. Not very organized, skips around a lot when lecturing about the lab. Would not take her again.

she is honestly the worst professor i have ever picked. she lectures all the time, and she gets off topic way too easily. there are 4 exams plus a final test. sometimes she doesn't even know how to answer questions when people ask during class.

Professor Lum is very smart but unfortunately her style of teaching for me was very difficult to follow. She makes the material extra complicated, as if Bio wasn't difficult enough to understand. Her exams are so difficult, even if you know the material you must know how to apply it 100%

Her PowerPoints & online material are organized. Its a different story when youre actually in class. Her lecturing style is unorganized and goes on tangents about irrelevant information. Spent time on this causes incomplete lectures. First day of class she warns that most of her students fail the first exam. Be prepared to teach yourself or skip.

This class is extremely hard with her teaching style because she is very unorganized when she is trying to do demonstrations she is spilling things knocking them over. She always seems very unsure when asked a question and says I don't know a lot when asked a question. She also does not test of what is in her power points and in the book..

Worst Biology teacher ever!I don't know why anyone would take her!She could care less about the students and she doesn't like students talking to her. Her test are hard and tricks you on questions as well as she gets off topic and has 100 plus slides for each chapter but 10 on the test. I studied and went to tutoring too!!Take McKenna shes better

She is the definition of awful! She makes no sense with most of her lecture and my peers and I did an experiment on our homework assignments where we turned the same exact two papers in and she gave one a score 12/15 and another the score of 8/15! Unbelievable! Save yourselves a W and dont take her class!

I had a difficult time understanding biology and she didnt help me at all.

I took Pam Lum for bio189 and ended up withdrawing. She would go off on tangents that had nothing to do with anything and was always so nervous when lecturing; she would constantly go "uh" or "um". Tests were super hard and the class wasn't worth it. I would drive to school without my seatbelt on because I would rather die than be in her class.

You can tell she wants to be a good professor, I just dont think it's meant for her. My 9th grade biology notes helped me study for her tests more than her notes did. She is almost impossible to reach outside of the classroom. Not friendly and will not help you.

Do not take this is you actually want to learn. She only does lecture videos and they are confusing. She teaches as if we should know what she is talking about. Her EXAMS make no sense from what she showed on her videos. Then you can not see your exam. You have to make an appt on her time and she tells you what was wrong. Never got to see the exam.

This class was extremely hard. You have to study both the book and her lectures that are painful to watch. The audio and video quality is not good and lectures like the teacher in Ferris Buller. I don't recommend taking this class unless it is a last resort.

Worst Class I Have EVER Taken. I completed every single assignment, watched every lecture, but then comes the tests and failed. The class overall was so stressful and difficult. Majority of the time you were teaching yourself. This professors class was more memorizing then learning. the average in the class for the final exam was a 21 out of 52.

Take anyone but her! Not an educator whatsoever. Super nervous, has her own definitions for things that are not based in fact. RUDE when you email. She says it's a "hybrid" course, but the fact is she is just too lazy to teach. Hands out worksheets and does NOT lecture on the material. It's shocking that CSN continues to pay her! BIG NO to LUM!

I had an awful time in Professor Lum's lecture. I had to teach myself everything and still couldn't manage to pass the exams. My lab grade is what helped me pass. Lum is always confusing and says the wrong things in class and doesn't bother to answer emails. I would take the time to watch the lecture videos to get points to boost your grade.

I urge everyone to chose another professor. her class was more of a learn yourself and figure it out. when we asked her for clarification on things she responds very defensive and unhelpful. the final grades in the class were horrible, majority of students failed.

This Professor is very hard if you pass her become a doctor she just puts videos for you to watch at home homework every week about 20 questions each one exams are very hard she goes out of the things told us to study watch amiba sisters if your in your class and struggling

She was not prepared for class. She made things more confusing for me. A nice person, but not the best teacher.

Take another professor.. she left me more confused when I would ask for help then actually helping me. Took away study guides at the end and that didn't help for her quizzes. Only good thing was I only came to this class 1x per week even that sucked.

You can learn more watching paint dry than taking this class. Expect to learn nothing from her lectures due to her making it much more confusing with the way she teaches. The majority of her lectures are just working on countless worksheets and the videos she gives online are just as confusing and boring as her lectures.

Professor Lum is a semi decent person but as a professor has given me so much stress and multiple panic attacks from how fast this course is paced i will be auditing this course so i can preserve my brain for my other courses. DO NOT TAKE from this professor she destroyed my mental health

Professor Lum is a decent person but as a professor she has caused me so much stress and mental breakdowns just because her class is so fast pace. I thought i could handle her method of teaching but I CANNOT, it was a mistake. i will be auditing this course to focus on myself and other classes.

DONT TAKE THIS CLASS! She doesn't lecture, all videos are online and they are extremely long and you have to put up the speed because she talks SO SLOW. They are also worth 0.01 points for every video. Your grade is mostly based on tests and she isn't helpful at all. I regret taking her so much, take Dr Mckenna!!!

Horrible she did not teach anything during her lectures!!! You have to watch her videos before you go in into her class you will do little worksheets during her class which isn't graded. Your grade is based off exams and homework which is worth 0.2 points. You will have to teach yourself everything do not take her !!!!

Don't recommend. Condescending & has attitude at times. Doesn't teach well. Says one thing & then claims she never said that. Get ready to teach yourself the material. In-class time feels useless, very confusing. Exams look nothing like the material she tells you to study. Working in groups has taught me nothing. Had a horrible time in this class.

Pam was AWFUL and for someone who's a visual learner, I was pretty excited to learn in this class. Her quizzes don't necessarily correspond to what she teaches. She doesn't sound confident in the things she is showing/teaching us in the labs. She is very sweet but she is NOT organized. Luckily I had a good group so we were able to help eachother.

The instructor relies too much on long homework videos. If you don't watch them, you're lost in class since it's mostly activities. When students are confused, she ignores them. It's sad to see students struggle because of her teaching style, seems feedback falls on deaf ears. I can't help but think she might be one of those who brag about drops.
