She takes the "teach" out of "teacher". I passed the class but am retaking it with a different professor because I feel I didn't learn anything the whole semester. She wasn't able to condense any of the text information and never made a single statement that stuck out in my mind. Prepare for boring lectures and teaching yourself with your book.
Great teacher. I plan on taking her for A&P2. Loved her lecture style and the D2L extras.
Pam is really nice lady, and has some cool world views, but i dont think she is a very good teacher. her lectures are horrible and confusing and are simply power points taken directly from the book. Thank god i had ANTH to explain evolution to me or who knows what i would think by her explanations. Her tests are too hard given the fact that she doesnt explain anything clearly. i have no idea how this woman got a masters degree.. i think she did too much acid in the 60's.
She is a very knowledgable teacher and really strives to help her students learn the material. I would recommend this class to anyone, but i would especially recommend her as a professor.
Pam helps each and everyone of her students. I think she trys hard to cover all of the required material in the limited amount of time we have.
P, we get what we put into it.The body is f'n incredible & your knowledge of it is VERY impressive. If I could change 2things, I would make U clinically trained, not vary tests difficulty from chpt-chpt.But that doesn't take away from what/how U teach. It would B nice.U R funny, caring,SMART.Prereqs should B Bio,chem, medterm. ishouldworkmore2.godspeed
I liked your teaching style. You made yourself available to your students if we needed help. It was not intimidating to approach you. Your lectures were helpful especially with the power points and the fact that you made them available for us to have it made it easier to follow along with the lectures and have a reference for study.
I liked her teaching style. The powerpoint lectures made it a lot easier, she was always available for help and could explain things in different ways. If possible I will take a class that she is teaching.
This class is very difficult (time consuming) but the material tested was very clear and our grades were more than fair. The class was very interesting and her teaching style made it fun. I have recomened this instructor to others who have to take this subject.
Took this over the summer-lots of material to cover! Pam did a great job, and was very helpful. Needed all this info for Bio 1041 and 1042, too!! Her knowledge is amazing!
This subject material for A & P is not easy, but Pam was always willing to go the extra mile to help students understand. She is also very approachable and willing to work with students.
very helpful teacher!! I really enjoyed the way she taught. very hands on and made everything very clear. If you're stuggling she was always right there to help you. A great down to earth and fun lady.
Excellent knowledge of subject material. Teachers passionate about their work usually make the best teachers. Very patient, took time to go over pretty much everything in the chapter. I've never liked Science, but I took this over the summer and learned a lot in a short amount of time!
An excellent teacher!
Pam's use of the D2L computer system and Power Point lectures made biology very clear to people like me that are not very interested in science but had to take the class for a prerequistite. After this class I am a lot more interested in science! Great teacher, very helpful and available to students!!
A VERY EASY TO APPROACH PROFESSOR THAT GOES OUT OF HER WAY TO HELP STUDENTS UNDERSTAND A CONCEPT WHEN NECCESSARY. PAM IS FUN AND HAS A GOOD KNOWLEDGE OF THE MATERIAL SHE TEACHES.
I took this class online but still had a pretty easy time understanding the material. Also it was very easy to contact regarding questions which was nice.
A difficult course, but Pam makes gives every opportunity to help - consistant office hours, info on tutoring, plus opportunities for learning outside of her own classes.
I thought Pam was a great teacher, and whoever was writing those rude comments is probably just upset that they did not do very well in her class!
Pam did an excellent job of cramming 16 weeks worth of coursework into 8 weeks! The powerpoint presentations were helpful, and her study guides were more than adequate preparation for her tests. Thanks for a great course! :)
The class to me was a little difficult just becuase i had taken it in the summer but I still did really good. You were a great instructor. I'm thinking about taking you for Anat. and Phys.
Good fun teacher but a little unclear (to me at least) during the more difficult chapters
Pam is a very good teacher, really wants everyone to succeed. Her tests are difficult in that I feel more emphasis sometimes is placed on the nitty gritty rather than main concepts of each system. Very helpful to everyone, however. Needs to wear shorter dresses to show off her great legs! (tee-hee)
I thought Pam was a wonderful teacher! She made even the "boring" material tolerable. Her best quality is that she doesn't pretend she knows everything. If you ask her a question in class and she doesn't know the answer she's not afraid to say "I don't know, but I'll get back to you." I wish I had the oppertunity to work with her again.
Pam is very nice, and always ready to help
I was surprised at how much chemistry there was to remember! Anyway, I liked the class alright, although she is a bit scatterbrained and disorganized, and the tests were difficult. Overall though I thought she was nice and I did come away having learned quite a bit.
would of been nice to know what to focus on for testing, i cannot possibley remember everything in each chapter. and am tired of remembering things i dont need to know and not knowing the things i needed to know. and if your going to focus on teaching anatomy and test on phisiology well that just sux.
I felt that Pam was very clear and concise in explaining the subjects addressed. She was helpful and respectful to everyone.
I fought for a C in Biology in H.S. I was nervous about taking this class (especially as a summer course). But Pam was a really great prof. Her materials were really clear. NOT an easy A, but definitely possible. I got an A!! I really liked her and felt she was really fair and very knowledgeable. I highly recommend her!
I took the online course, really easy.
Good teacher with a great sense of humor. Challenging class to take during summer session. Labs interesting & fun. She's passionate about her field and it's kind of contagious. She'll say if she doesn't know something, but will follow up right away with the answer (sometimes she'll offer it up for extra credit, which is kind of neat).
I took human biology online and it wasn't very easy at first, you really have to find your own way to study the material. Follow the powerpoint notes she gives and you'll be fine. She also is very helpful.
To tell you the truth, You have to study to pass her class. Very easy to approach. Study the powerpoints well plus the online quiz, maybe the textbook if you have to. Her test was not easy trust me........."study"....... "study"...... but it worth it at the end
This teacher read right off the power point presentation. BORING!! Knowledgeable, but not true A and P teacher material.
I attended an online course for Biology Concepts. The course itself is challenging and interesting. However, this teacher made it a lot harder. She was extremely unhelpful with questions and was very belittling in public forums. Very unprofessional attitude.
Lot's of work, not an easy class. You will learn alot if you want to. Pam is a great instuctor, very accessable. She cares about what she is doing and has done a great job in this online class. You will get out of this class what you put into it.
Pam does a great job of making sure you understand the material presented, and that you're able to apply it in the lab work. I've never enjoyed a science class as much as this!
Very good teacher. Clear on material. Only downfall is her exams are very hard. She gives trick exams most of the time and asks the tiny things not main concepts. She does not sound encouraging for online classes. She will keep telling you it's hard. I would take another teacher just because she makes you read sooo much. More than you have to.
I would not take her again, she is an okay teacher, but needs to keep political views out of the classroom. We know she is a liberal as many teachers are!
Took online. Great teacher. Class seems hard at first but once you get the hang of things it is really fun and interesting stuff to learn! I would definetely reccommend this teacher..extremely helpful, always willing to help, and gives extra credit! If you take Human Biology..definetly take with this teacher! :)
I recommend taking a biology course prior to enrollment:Intro to Forensic Science Biology Hybrid/Blended b/c prior biology knowledge will increase your success in the course.
She was a very insightful and knowledgeable instructor.
I have had two classes with her at Century and she has been my favorite professor thus far!
I had Pam as a sub the last half of the semester. Our class turned into an online class. Pam was very helpful during this time of transition. She reponded to emails/questions very quickly. She was willing to work with us students to finish out the semester. I really enjoyed having her as a teacher and would take her again!
Took online. Quizzes NOTHING like book or web-based site for practice. Seems nice, but just reads the power points and calls that "lecture". Largest % of quiz results = 65%, abt. 20% of class - that ought to tell you everything you need to know.
Do NOT take this class online. READS the powerpoints that are supposedly 'lecture', tell you to "know this" and then never tests on it. She wants you to "understand" not memorize. Main concepts you study and study like she says then not tested on most of it. Big waste of time.BEWARE!!! Better know chemistry B4 taking class.
Took hybrid/blended forensic bio course. She was extremely unhelpful, often extremely belittling in public online forums. Assigns 150 page powerpoints that she calls a "lecture" and then tests on maybe 20 pages of the information she just assigned, which makes her tests extremely difficult. I would HIGHLY recommend against taking any class with her
Straight to the point. I took the hybrid forensics biology even though she is knowledgeable about the material, she is a horrible teacher, my opinion she simply doesn't know how to teach. He online lectures are very boring, and I hope you don't mind a dog barking through out the lecture either. The material is crap and very confusing.
Good Teacher, sometimes a little spacey but knows what she is talking about.
I HIGHLY recommend her and her class. No, she's not easy. However, I didn't know college biology courses were supposed to be? DO NOT buy a book. It is a waste of money, she gives you EVERYTHING you need on her lectures (which yes, are long, but cover the entire course material).
This class is definitely an easy A. Attend lab, look over the powerpoints, put in some effort and you'll do great.
very helpful
In order to succeed in this class you have to study hard.
HARD class.Boring online lectures. If you like science, should be OK. If not, be PREPARED and COMMITTED to hours & hours of weekly study if you want more than a D or C. HARD, HARD, HARD class. Use ppts. for 99% of quiz material. Overall final class ave. on quizzes 69%. Only plus was she's very helpful & responsive teacher, knows her stuff! Like!
Study very hard everyday in order to pass tests. Extremely helpful with answering questions, very knowledgeable in the field, and a very nice individual! Lectures are boring but contain important information.
Extremely boring lectures with random distractions thrown in. Only did 2/3 of the labs (lab equip was expensive!) so that there is a waste. Focuses largely on saving the earth/climate change...which not everyone cares about.
Although she is smart, her presentations are horrible. Her study reviews for her test do not go well with the actual test. Again, she is smart, just not a good presenter of the material. Unless you know all about biology, don't take this class.
Communication could be better, lectures/labs/readings don't seem to go together, as if randomly chosen, and never being clear about anything is making it hard to scrape by with any grade in her class. I don't recommend.
HATED THIS CLASS! Her online lectures were boring and frustrating because she would get sidetracked, but the book was useless for her tests so you are forced to listen to the horrible lectures. I would NEVER take her again. EVER.
Very helpful is you ask questions because she will respond right away. Good teacher and encourages students. Gives students exceptions and I thought that was very helpful.
I took this class online. The lectures are a little long, but they cover all the concepts in the quiz so it helps a little. She does teach a lot on climate change. In a biology class I think it would be better to concentrate on biology a little more. Overall though good class, and helpful teacher.
This was the online version of biology concepts. Very interesting class, but get ready to work hard! It's worth the hard work though!
This class was ridiculous. The teacher will not work with you individually because it wouldn't be fair to other students! Her tests have nothing to do with what you will be learning. She has boring lectures that throw you off because she gets so side tracked. I would recommend spending money on a class you will get help and that you can learn from.
Difficult course. On more than one occasion the online quiz did not align with what was taught and was actually stuff from future lessons. If you have an issue out of your control be prepared to lose points(I had a subpeona to testify against a intoxiacated driver and she pretty much told me I was out of luck for taking the quiz for the day)
She is very smart. The problem is her work load is unbalanced for an online class. She gives no time to study for the midterm or for the final. The lectures are hard to listen to. The only enjoyment in the lectures is when her dog enters.
Extremley helpful! Wonderful teacher who helped with any problem you had and always responded right away! Labs were fun to do at home and she explained things in lecture. The work was easily set out and I would recommend her to anyone!
Online quiz not related to the topics discussed. Hard to get a good grade in her class. I will not take another course with her.
She is a very nice teacher but the lectures online are old and you can hear her dog barking the whole time. also dont buy the book because you will never use it.
Loved this class. Your opinion is your own, but I had a fun time, and the class was easy. Be prepared and come to every lab. Flash cards and a study partner are a must for this class. I got a good grade, and she likes the Earth and going green is her thing. just a FYI.
Clear lectures. Fast responses to questions.
Excellent professor! So quick to answer questions through both online discussions and email. Certainly made me feel as though the class understanding the materials was her top priority. Take this class!
Great professor. Very helpful. Very interactive in online class. Material is HARD but given time required, doable (summer was way hard). Would pick this professor to take a class from again.
This was a fun class and very informative. Lectures contain the quiz material not the book. The lectures were a bit somber and often put me to sleep. Summer class is very demanding, I would reccomendd waiting unless you have several hours per week to devote to this class.
Great teacher.
If you like science, then Pam would be an OK teacher (online). If you're NOT a science person, BEWARE. 110-150 PPTs each week/quiz is 15 questions. Lecture is NOT a lecture, she just reads the PPTS but you HAVE to listen to them. Thank God it was an online class or I would have failed, totally failed. Got an A, thanks to no-no open book (ppt) UGH
This class in general is difficult to take online for someone who is new to the concepts of biology. I thought that for the level of difficulty going into the class, the instructor provided the tools needed to succeed, and was organized with her material. The only downfall is that there was a large amount of material to cover each week.
I have 70+ credits completed, this was by far the most difficult class I have taken. It was online so I get that it requires a little more time than class room courses, but this consumes your life! There were no breaks(Not even MEA or Thxgiving!). EVERY week we had an assignment due that would take HOURS to complete AND a quiz to study for.
This is an online course, I would recommend Pam. She has lectures that at times are long but she also provides enough study tools to help you succeed in her class.
Pam is super helpful and has great communication. Do the work and don't be afraid to ask questions. Your grade will reflect how much you have applied yourself.
I took this class online with prior interest in biology: loved the material, grew to hate the professor. The class had poor presentation on her part. The online lectures were too long and included her dogs barking. When I realized that she recorded the lectures two years ago, I was very disappointed.
Took Human Biology online with this professor. She's an OK professor but be prepared to put up with her political agenda. Yes that right, global warming in a Human Biology class. Also in regards to due dates, if there is a semester long project she will mark off points if you wait until the last minute.
Did most of her work, missed a quiz and some worksheet and she decides to fail me even when im very close to passing. Not a good teacher, lecture are boring and long. Doesn't explain things well.. Barely used book.
Instructor warned class would be hard (it was) and would take a serious time commitment (it did). Including the at home labs (online class), I spent at least 9 hours a week on this class and earned an A. Pam is helpful and very present in D2L discussions. Great instructor, I highly recommend her to anyone who wants to learn the material.
You only get one chance to take the quizes and if you miss it she wont let you make them up. The lectures are long and boring and sometimes she stops in the middle to fix things while still recording. In class lecture is just as boring. The labs are okay. She leaves the classroom and isn't much help sometimes.
Pam was a very helpful and nice teacher. If you ask her to review a worksheet or homework that you weren't happy with the grade, she would gladly look at it for you. The course is hard, but she gives a lot of extra-credit options!
The Instructor was nice as a person. However, she has her favorite students that she gives good grades too. Her lectures online are very boring. This class is extremly hard because of the way she grades weekly assignments. Her tests are extremly hard as well. I don't recommend taking this teacher for Forensic Bio. Labs are ok, homework is hard tho
Hardly used textbook. I do not recommend buying it. You can get by with the lecture and power points. Once you learn what to study for, the weekly quizzes get easier. She is very helpful and involved online.
Worst teach i've ever had. She goes through boring lectures and corrects the slides while lecturing. You can also hear her dogs barking in the background which is unprofessional..Audio quality cuts in and out during lectures. Lectures about topics not in the quiz. If you have another teacher option go with another teacher. Horrible!
BAD BAD BAD. This is a professor who wants her students to fail. Tests are not based on any material in the box or lectures. In lectures she will say "you'll need to know this" and the information won't be on the test...Texts are not based on lecture notes which is a waste of time. She gives 50 to 120 min lectures and none of this is on the test.
Tests hard, lectures long, didn't use the text book at all but the website going with book helped a lot! She focused more on environmental issues rather than the course material. If you print out powerpoints and do the prequiz and self test on the website you will do great. She offers a ton of extra credit too which is awesome!
Prof. Thinesen is a teacher who is passionate about her subject. She really does love biology. She offers an extended amount of resources on every topic, outside of the text, and weaves a theme of climate change through this intro course. It was not an easy class, but I survived and really did learn a lot. You must study, every day.
This professor was one of the best I've had while attending Century. She's passionate about the subject, involved in class discussions and always available to answer questions or offer insight. She puts a lot of effort into the class and the resources available to students and she's just a really nice person.
I took the hybrid class, but the majority of the work is online. There's an exam once a week based on online lectures but the labs were enjoyable. I don't recommend buying the book as it isn't used at all. She's a good teacher, really interested in forensics and gives a broad spectrum of information. I would recommend this class.
Took this class as a hybrid class. Honestly, if you have the time to just look over the notes, you'll do fine. I have a B (at the moment) without spending much time with the online video lectures. Again, if you have the time this class is not as hard as others say it is. Labs were easy, and you have one week to finish them up.
this class was partial online and partial lab, very interesting and she's a nice lady but lots of studying is required.
Overall it was a great hands-on class. If you put in the work and tried to learn the material then you will get a decent grade. (what to you put into it, is what you will get as a grade.) Exams were a little confusing and slightly tricky but if you knew main concept than one should do fine.
This class was very hard atleast for me. There were many errors in the teachers instructions. I have taken many online courses and this is the first one that I really did not like. This teachers test were very hard and some of the information on them was not in her powerpoints or in the textbook. If you like a challenge go for it!
This was a challenging class, but it was doable. I have learned a lot and I have a better appreciation of Biology now. I read comments on here about not buying the book, and I did not because we hardly used it. I loved the labs at home, but you must be a self motivator for this class. Yes it takes up a lot of time for studying, but its worth it.
I have never had a prof ask so much of a class. It is online and by far the most difficult online class Ive ever taken. In addition to the texts you must purchase a $200 lab kit that you do not use everything out of it. She is very biased and focuses mostly on global warming more than anything else. I am very disappointed in this class.
Lectures on-line were poorly recorded in her kitchen, as her dog interupted
Very passionate about what she teaches. Lectures can be very boring and are a little outdated. Would be more interesting if she added more personal experiences, updated them and didn't just read the lecture notes. Overall she is a very supportive teacher. Just be prepared to study a lot.
I do not reccommend this professor to anyone. She gives you one minute per questions on finals/quizzes and she is only looking for very specific answers only. She is a tough grader and doesn't really care to help you. I feel like she makes everything extremely hard on purpose so all of her students can fail. I did not enjoy this class one bit.
This is a hard class with a lot of work, but I think this is also one of the few classes where I REALLY learned a lot. This teacher is there to answer questions and be helpful but she's not going to coddle you or hold your hand.
She is readily avaiable and answers all online questions very quickly!
I took Pam twice, for BIOL 1020 and 1024. Her grading is good, she offers a decent amount of extra credit, 20 pts, class is not hard to pass well but, she is very left wing and she doesn't let you forget it. you have to reads book about climate change do a assign about climate change even though they don't apply to material, like for Biol 1024.
The teacher was very good! I took it online, and her lectures were long but taught well and important to listen to. There are quizzes every week and they are hard- must study a LOT! Labs each week take a long time, but if you spread them out they aren't bad. Stay on top of your work! Less time needed as week goes on. Interesting class and teache
Pam is a wonderful and caring person, but really struggles as a professor. I wanted to like her, but I never knew what to expect, how hard the tests would be, or what to focus my studying on. The tests and quizzes were either very specific and difficult or ridiculously easy. There was no indication of what you needed to know. Passing is tough.
This has got to be one of the WORST teachers ever!! Lecture recording has background noise such as her eating, drinking, etc. She frequently looses her train of thought. She skips around & materal on slide sheet doesn't match recording. This is a BIOLOGY CLASS & NOT ECOLOGY. We all know this except for Pamela. Drops grade for negative comments
Lectures are all confusing as she jumps around. Tests are difficult. EXTREME amount of work each week. So much to upload to one drop box if you upload Saturday expect the drop box to time out and you will lose points. some weeks 5 labs with extensive lab reports to turn in on top of 152 slides to take notes on. Worst Teacher!
Looks like you only have two assignments however you need to upload up to 4 lab reports into one drop box. Lectures are TERRIBLE! she skips around and is unclear of what you are suppose to get out of them. I ended up looking things up on the internet to understand what I was suppose to be learning. Tough class online (teaching yourself biology).
One of the worst professors I have ever had. She is no help to her students because she thinks that because she knows the material, everyone else should too. She makes a ton of errors on quizzes and has to change them afterwards. Her lectures are full of typos and other mistakes. She can't stay organized or keep up with technology. Terrible!
I took Pam's online Biology class. The hardest part of her class is the quizzes and tests. You get one minute per question and can only view two questions at one time until you move on to the next two questions without being able to go back. The questions are not on her practice quiz. The lecture videos are hard to follow and don't really help you.
This class is tough and the professor is a very tough grader when it comes to labs, homework, ETC. But guess what, welcome to college. I think she is a great instructor with a sound understanding of Biology. She knows what she is talking about. One thing I did not like was the at home labs which would take at least 4 hours to complete.
Do not take online class!!!! One minute per question on tests, cannot go back to check work if you have any time left. The lectures are mind-numbing and disorganized. I disliked almost everything about this class, which seems to be more about global warming than Biology. The grading is also very strange and often vague.
Professor Thineson expects a lot out of her students. She will assign several labs, a quiz, and additional assignments weekly. Her lectures can be hard to follow, and are long. If you are a motivated, independent learner, you can expect to pass her class, but be prepared to work hard. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE PLENTY OF TIME TO DEVOTE TO THIS COURSE.
I have never had a class before that when a teacher says you will be putting a lot of work into it, that they actually really meant A LOT of work. This class will pay off if you can stick through it the first few weeks and get into a routine. It is a lot of work, but the instructor definitely is there to assist if need be.
Don't do it. You have to read chapters from two books, multiple discussions, labs, long, uninteresting lectures, practice homework, and quizzes. All of that WEEKLY. It's too much. If you ever question global warming in the discussions she will argue back. Buuuut a big pro to her is that she has extra credit options. I'm thankful for that!!
Very disorganized and a lot of the questions on test don't seem to be in chapters or lectures that we were working on.
She is a good professor overall. By saying that I mean she is very organized when it comes to the syllabus and things such as that. online, you better know you're stuff or you will do very poorly. By knowing your material i mean studying for hours on hours. Also if you take the online biology with lab the lab material is beyond bs. So confusing.
She seems to be all over the place in her lectures. The labs and tests also do not make any sense. Also, I do not appreciate the concept of global warming being shoved down my throat.
Was a great person but not so great as a professor. Times tests were so stressul
She knows her stuff but expects her class to know everything she knows. Quizzes are always timed and very difficult with questions that were never covered in any of the material. She was very argumentative and rude in the online discussion boards. Do not recommend unless you plan on spending 12 hours a week on this class for a C, per instructor.
Lectures are long, informative, but way too much content to learn in a week. Labs are from esciencelabs and do not come with much instruction making them unfair/difficult. CREATE A STUDY GUIDE RIGHT AWAY FOR TEST TAKING! IF YOU FALL BEHIND YOU'LL REGRET IT!! IT SUCKS for first few weeks, but once a routine is developed, you'll get it. Don't quit.
took her for the online biology course. worst mistake of my life. there weren't much homework to do, but the labs were very stressful. There were two to three individual labs within the labs given for the week. overall, I would NOT RECOMMEND HER CLASS.
I took a partially in class and online course with this teacher and she was terrible. Expect to do all of the work online and forget listening to the lecture recordings, they are just painful. Read those powerpoints or I'd recommend just avoiding this teacher at all costs.
Doesn't seem to know whats going on half the time and tends to not explain things.
This is the worst professor I have ever had! Im a very good student and very independent when it comes to doing my work. This is a beginners biology class. I think this professor believes we should know everything she knows and teaches. Her lectures are not current. This professor does not deserve your hard earned money. Don't take her class!
Pamela Thinesen is inconsiderate of what you may be experiencing outside of her classroom. My little sister passed away towards the end of the semester and she was not at all accommodating. She extended a lab 5 days and so it was due the day of the funeral. Miscommunication through email and lack of sympathy was frustrating. Avoid Avoid Avoid!!
She wanted me to turn in labs on time even while I was in the hospital after giving birth.
I took this course online. She has very precise lectures and provides notes with all the slides for the lecture online for you. Very easy to take notes plus she is great about getting back to you when you email her. If you have a concept question that none of your classmates were able to answer satisfactory, she will respond to the posting.
Pam was a over all good instructor. She knew the material very well, and was passionate about her work. She made labs fun with using the resources she had for us. Forensic Bio was difficult, quizzes will be timed, and you will NEED to study. Don't take a science class if you can't handle a heavy work load.
Biology is hard enough but its even harder when you do everything almost right but your grade dont reflect in her class..I would not recommend this course with this professor if you not a genus at it from the start..
She communicates really well with students, but the class was extremely hard. Lot's of reading, lot's of lab/activities, and lot's of quizzes/testing. Final was not comprehensive, but was very hard.
She pushes a personal agenda on climate and doesn't incite to much interest in actually learning about human biology. If I wanted to learn about climate, I would have taken an Essential Biology course instead. If you need this class for the radiology program, take it with someone else. The assignments are hidden and all over D2L.
Be sure to look at the weekly checklist often. This is the place where the most current information regarding assignments is.
This course had a lot of tedious work. Multiple lab assignments, practices that aren't graded, reading a textbook plus a chapter book and posting discussions, and then quizzes. Most of the questions you have are answered SOMEWHERE but it's hard to keep track of all of the information. Very stressful every week to make sure that everything was done.
I felt the class should have been more about Biology then Global Warming. It did inspire me to go greener and do my part to save the planet but that was not the point of the class and now I have Chem. next semester and I am going in it totally lost because this was supposed to be a prep course. However I did learn a lot of energy and climate change
Being that this is a science course you should expect it to be a little more difficult than a liberal arts course. None the less, I did find it difficult to get in the swing of things in the beginning of the class. My number one tip is pay attention to the weekly check list or you will miss something. Overall, be prepared for strict deadlines.
This was a good course with a lot of material to cover. I think this instructor grades fairly, and gives good feedback as well as the option to see the corrections to your mistakes on labs and quizzes. Be prepared to lean!!!
The opposite of motivational. A difficult professor to listen lectures, unorganized information on slide shows and maybe because its partially online but in class its her way or the highway. No room for discussion about the text we've read the last week. Very opinionated person who cares less about others opinions.
(online class) Pam wasn't a hard grader, easy A if you complete the work. Weekly timed quizzes were simple. The first few weeks were confusing because it was the first time she had students using the online textbook. I hardly read it, and still passed the class. Responds very quick to emails/questions. Would take her again in the future.
If this is your only class for the semester then by all means take it but if not, I don't recommend this class. Overly congested material, labs are not always clear and straight forward. Insane amounts of work due over the course of a week. Vague feedback, overwhelming each week. Long lectures, long powerpoints, expected to already know everything.
Very clear in what she expects of her students which is super helpful! Always willing to answer questions and give feedback.
Do not take this class if you have a full-time job or if your course load is heavy. This class involves an UNNECESSARY amount of work. Each week the workload would equate to about 12 solid hours of just biology. I personally felt that a lot of the work was unnecessary. Each week has: book to read, lectures, labs, pan-open, quizzes etc.
Pam was a great teacher but the amount of work due each week was overwhelming. You will have to plan a solid 16 hours a week to complete the lectures, lab assignments, and pan open assignments/quizzes. All the work was relevant to the topics needing to learn that week but I would have liked more time to make study guides, flash cards, etc.
Great Professor, Material is easy to understand. Quiz every week.
Worst experience, I have ever had at Century College. I would not recommend this professor to anyone. Ridiculous amount of homework each week, including Multiple Labs, 100's of slides to listen too, Quizzes, Pan-Open Assignments, Global Warming Novel Chapters, Activities, Ect. Very tough grader W/ very vague feedback. Worst professor ever.
This class has an INSANE AMOUNT OF WORK. Its by far the most assignments I have ever had to complete on a weekly basis for an online course. Its unnecessary! Grading takes forever (since theres so much for her to grade) therefore its impossible to know how you can improve before the next report is due! Your life will be consumed by this class.
overall great teacher
This class is hard! If you don't read the weekly materials and stay on top of your work, than you fill fall behind. I do like the extra credit options, I did take advantage of that. I would take another course from this teacher because I know what she expects and how much she will make you work.
A good class that provided a lot of great and useful information, but we were not given enough time to complete each weekly quiz. The instructor was very thorough and organized but did assign a lot of work each week.
This class can be very overwhelming if you have a busy life. There is so much homework you are required to do and you barley have enough time to do each quiz and test. Although I learned stuff about biology, all this instructor cared about was global warming. We also had to write 4-5 different papers about the environment.
If you have time to watch recorded lectures for hours on end, weekly quizes, weekly online book assignments, read/post a chapter discussion, perform/write multiple lab reports, and complete random assignments on climate change then go for it. Im an A student and not afraid of work, but I did more busy work for this class than my others combined.
What is her teaching philosophy?!? Timed quizzes are taken two questions at a time. cannot go backwards to change answers, even if you know you marked something wrong during quiz. Textbook is hard to digest and does not include all information that professor uses for quizzes. Professor supplies supplimental video lectures, which are incomplete.
Professor Thinesen was nice, but she does ramble and lose her train of thought during lectures and labs. This course is unnecessarily heavy with climate change homework; you need to read a book and write several assignments on it. She does give out extra credit opportunities. Definitely a picky grader, points are taken off for simple mistakes.
Tough grader and an overwhelming amount of work for a summer course. I've never cried over a class like I have for this one. Like someone else mentioned, if you're busy, taking other classes, have a family or a job, DO NOT take this course. Extreme amount of assignments compared to every other class I've taken, lots of busy work, and tough grader.
This class is extremely overwhelming at the beginning. It is a lot to take in and get used too, personally i could handle the online work pretty easily but using the internet instead of lectures. The lectures will take a lo of time if you are trying to learn. Unless you have about 4 hours a day of free time do not take this course or you will drown
very overwhelming! around 3 labs and 3 lectures per week. not to mention the 2 chapters you have to read and the Kit you have to shell out $200 for. overall its very overwhelming and if you arent full time I wouldnt recommend unless you have at least 3 or 4 hours a day to finish and space out homework for the homework due Friday and Sunday night
I enjoyed the class but it was definitely a lot of work. Lectures and readings went well together, but most labs did not go well with that week's material. Be ready to do a lot of readings and quizzes each week. If you slack even at the slightest, you will not pass the class. The professor is helpful in the sense that she responds to emails quickly
Forensic Biology with Pam is going to be a VERY tough class. It is very content-heavy and has an intense workload. You have to take a test each week on a LOT of readings and lectures. Do not take this class if you cant handle a tough workload. This class is hard but I enjoyed it a lot. If you are dedicated and have good study skills, you'll be fine
I took this class online while I took a chemistry and COMM class. I was drowning in Biology homework. She says at the beginning of the semester if you cannot commit to 12-15 hours per week you won't pass. She was correct. If you have any difficulty with the concepts you could spend more than 20+ hours per week reading and taking notes.
Good professor, class and all.
I feel like she isnt very good at her job. She is all over the place and she knows about the subject but her train of thought is like a rollercoaster without restraints. She marks off points on assignments very critically even though her instructions are ambiguous. Shes nice but, take someone else if you can.
I would n ever take a class from this professor again. Her online lectures are very difficult to get through because she does not edit them at all. Her voice is not easy to listen to for a long period of time. She is not open to suggestions at all.
It is an online class and has a lot of tests. Lab is fun. Make sure you really understand the materiel, and then take the test. It is an interesting class overall.
This class is way to hard and material didn't always make sense. I didn't feel supported by this teacher. I felt like it didn't matter if I was successful or not in this class. She's stuck in her ways and is not understanding at all. It even states in her syllabus that no late work is accepted for tech issues, child illness or funerals. Awful class
A lot of work, very difficult class to pass, everyone struggles under 70% level. Items tooka very long time to get graded and back. Not sure if it wsas teacher or lack of support for teacher. Bought text book and course code and never used it, was very disappointed, thats a lot of money that could have beem emailed to us before we all bought it.
Difficult class. Doing labs at home was hard.
You will pass this class if you really study the material from the homework website and listen to her lectures. But her lectures were SUPER unorganized! She had a lot of technical problems and unnecessary things in the videos, that couldve cut time in half. Lecture videos r also from 2014. Nothing is updated. Links are not up 2 date as well.
DO. NOT. TAKE. THIS. CLASS. If you register too late and it's the only bio left... WAIT until next semester. Unorganized, scatter brained and unclear guidelines. You will have about 30 assignments a week that only total up to 5 pts per week. Lectures don't make sense. Does not care to see students succeed
12+ hours of reading each week, lectures that are too long and not helpful, several quizzes each week that take hours to study for yet worth same as regular homework. Doesn't get in touch with students, doesn't feel like she cares if they pass or fail. WAY too much work for general bio course. Hard to get 100% on any assignment.
Make sure to turn in work on time; she does not accept late work but there are some opportunities for extra credit. It is called Human Biology but the learning materials also involved many other organisms in the textbook, studying and quizzes.
She is super critical with labs and dosen't provide good feedback. Would never take her again!
Pamela load the course too much. There are lots expected of the students. Too much lab work, reading etc. This is sometimes overwhelming. The course appears expensive for an average student who pays out of pocket without financial aid. There are three aspects that must be done weekly, reading the note, lab, going to Lrnr, the lecture requires time.
The class was loaded with many lectures that were very long. Doing the labs at home required a lot of time and was very difficult to do without proper instruction. This class alone requires a lot of your time to do readings & homework. Passing this class definitely proves to be a challenge. If this is the only class open, WAIT UNTIL NEXT SEMESTER!
Would not recommend this class if you have any other courses. A lot of assignments that are worth barely any points. Lots of extra material that wasn't significant with the learning material. Seemed to care one about global warming assignments then the material we are actually supposed to be learning. Very hard to get a good grade.
I enjoyed this course. This is a reading intensive class, and requires a lot of memorization and organization. The assignments and reading related to climate change was overwhelming, and it was somewhat distracting from the more traditional coursework. I did, however, enjoy learning about it.
This is the worst class I've ever taken. So much busy work- over 24 hours/week. As a busy working adult, I had to take a day off per week in order to get through her tedious and not relevant homework. SLOW grading and no feedback. Some test questions did not even come from the lecture or homework and were sometimes even off topic.
I think that this professor did a very excellent job of staying organized throughout the semester. I think that there was a lot of material and concepts that were challenging, but they were also very useful and I personally feel like I learned a lot about the basic concepts of Biology prior to taking the course. Overall, I enjoyed this class a lot
Her lectures are outdated and pretty sure she has a bird or a cat that makes weird noises in the back ground of her lectures. Lectures were painful to get through. One week she said practice assignments were optional and the next week she said she was going to dock us points for not doing them. um ok? WOULD NOT RECOMMEND HER EVER!!
I took this course over the summer while taking two other classes with equal credit hours. I spent 20 hours a week on this course, and 15 on my other two. I recommend studying the lecture notes, you don't need to watch the lectures to succeed. Use the weekly checklist! I think the Field Notes book could be omitted and lectures shortened.
It was a 4 credit class so I knew it would be heavy, but sometimes the lectures just felt too long. One of the lectures was based off of a 150 slide presentation. I also had to buy a lab kit that was $180 and we didn't even use half of the stuff in it.
I thought Pamela Thinesen was a great professor! Yes, there is a lot of work to do in this class but as long as you keep checking her weekly schedule and plan your week you'll do great! Study! Study! Study! I feel like I learned more in this biology class than I have in any other biology class!
The one thing that I hated most was not being able to turn in late work especially with what has been going on it was really hard to keep up with so much work given and everything due in a week. It was hard to balance this class with tons of work, I felt it was too much and overwhelming. I focused more on my other classes and started to fail Bio.
Tough grader on labs and worded quizzes in a tougher way. Labs were tough to take at home without barely any help.
This class had a lot of busy work as others have said. But once you get the hang of whats required each week, it becomes easier. There are a lot of assignments and work to do each week BUT it isnt hard work just time consuming. The quizzes are somewhat easy and right out of the lecture, labs are okay, and homework easy.
Overall this class is really tedious, especially with lrnr and the reading from that one book, you really have to keep track of everything. And with the labs, this whole semester she's been knocking points off my labs because I didn't number them even though the way it downloaded on my laptop didn't show that, bruh the questions were there too.
This course was so difficult. It was a late start so I was not prepared for the course load to be so heavy. I'm talking about 2-3 labs per week along with readings and other assignments. Exams too were difficult as there were only two thus you had 5-6 chapters per exam. Her lectures were super helpful, but it was still a tough course.
She is a tough grader! Her lecture's consists of prerecorded lectures of her just reading off the lecture notes! What good does that do? I basically had to learn everything myself. Although the quizzes were not hard, the labs were hard! She takes off a lot of points if they're wrong. But then again, this was an accelerated course.
I am a good student but this class was overwhelming and confusing, I gave up on this class not because I wanted to but it was mentally draining me there is a lot of work to do, unnecessary long lectures and no late work accepted. I did not have the time because I work and of course have other classes. I have to retake Bio but def with another teach
This was a hard class, mainly because in the lectures that she records of herself, she doesn't talk clear. She mumbles and stutters a lot in the videos and often goes back to correct what she previously said. She was an okay professor and is nice but I would not recommend her.
Awesome Instructor. Her class does include lots of homework and reading. Lots of the assignments are enjoyable and up to date. Due to the volume of homework I was well prepared for the tests and feel good about the grade that was given. She gives great feedback on almost any question asked! ROCKSTAR!
When it came to papers you would think this was an English Comp class versus Human Biology. She is tough on grammatical errors. If there is a miscommunication no matter what it is definitely the students problem not the instructor's issue.
So much work, not a lot of direction and extremely tough tests and grader. Would have been a more interesting class if the professor actually wanted her students to do well and was willing to step out of her tunnel vision of teaching. It is all on you so do not expect much from her and be prepared to dedicate many hours a week.
Overall the class was great as it was online and you can work at your own pace but be prepared for lectures, notes, many assignments, quizzes, labs, and much more.
STUDY STUDY STUDY! If you know and understand what you're learning, her class is easy. Quizzes can be challenging.
She is a great professor. Tough grader but is helpful whenever it is needed.
Many assignments were not posted correctly, in a timely manner, or accurate. There was generally one lab/ assignment error on the part of the teacher each week, which cut into students' time to complete homework w/zero grace for late work. She was very unprofessional and treated students like children. The online labs were very difficult to do.
I felt like the class gave out a lot of work throughout each week: lecture and notes, practice quizzes, quiz, 1-2 labs, and a book reading and response. If it were the only class you were taking I think you'd be fine, because you'll have more time to study the notes for the quizzes.
Extensive work load. Poor concepts given. Recorded lectures is her reading power point (using a red pointer). Poor visual and at times she would contradict what was on power point. No lab lectures so expect to do your labs blindly. Many errors on labs and lectures. Be sure to check your corrected labs bc she miss corrects. Very short with students.
Do not take her class. She's very disorganized. Her lectures are record and doesn't really explains things very well. I took one of the quizzes and I didn't get point for a question because it was incorrect. I sent her an email and a screenshot of it and she didn't I didn't get it because it was "none of the above" there wasn't an option for that.
The amount of work you have to do is not worth the points she gives. Her grading technique is terrible. She grades papers was if she's an English teacher. As far as her communication skills, she's very rude and sarcastic. She said the textbook was required and we never used it. DO NOT MENTION Your religion, she is bash you and grade you poorly.!!!!
IF I COULD GIVE HER A 0 I WOULD! Don't mention your religion!!!!!! She uses pre recorded lectures and notes from previous years, and the materials does not match up. In her lectures she does not know a lot she always says 'I don't know''. Very rude, and sarcastic when responding to students. Her grades don't match up with her responses. DON"T TAKE
I honestly thought she was a decent teacher and those who are complaining about her are being way too harsh. Given that most students who take her class are fresh out of high school newbies, I'm not surprised that they can't handle the work. Grow up, this is college. If you want an A you will have to work for it, especially in a weed out class.
Sneaks homework assignment into notes, unfairly grades work, does not give adequate time for labs, doesn't have compassion for people who make mistakes, its more like her way is the right way, I have never in my life received a D or lower, refuses to grade assignments that were in the wrong folder. Power trip.
Terrible teacher. Unorganized notes, talks about random stuff in lectures, doesn't quite cover her own main concepts, and this class requires no textbook which makes it harder because her teaching isn't the best.
She is a tough teacher. No missing homework, no make-up quizzes even you got sick and went to the hospital. You will fail if you miss 1 lesson. I felt so stressed with her class so I dropped this class. She made me feel the worst. She does not helpful at all. This is the worst teacher. She put a lot of stress on students. So bad.
Tried to be nice and give her the benefit of the doubt, this class is awful and it should not be that difficult for an intro to bio course. Really seems like a power trip when grading. The class setup is extremely disorganized. She doesn't teach she reads off a PowerPoint and corrects as if she's a communications professor. Absolutely ridiculous.
She is terrible. I have never had a professor say something is extra credit then halfway through the semester change it to required like she did. She makes a ton of mistakes, doesn't open assignments when they are supposed to be, her lectures are painful to listen to. I have to say she is the worst teacher I have ever taken at Century.
The workload was heavy and crammed into 8 weeks instead of 16 weeks. But that is to be expected. Not all professors will not coddle you. She doesn't accept late work but it holds you accountable on your end and you become more responsible. She has a lot of bad results probably from children but this is not high school, it's college y'all.
This was an online class and quizzes were timed to be very short, only 2 questions per page and no option to go back. No clear expectations on assignments so grade deductions were arbitrary. Specific details were were tested as heavily as broad concepts but there was no study guide, just memorize the textbook. If GPA matters, don't take her class.
She doesn't work around things with you if something comes up outside of class. It is her way or the highway. Seems as though she isn't always confident in topics she teaches. Get ready for 100 slide PowerPoint notes and hours of lectures where she will only discuss part of the slides.
Too much homework, and material which are not relevant to the class. Everyday study 4-6 hours but still was not able to complete my assignments.
Too much assignments from out of subject or class.
I have never seen a professor like her. Too much homework, too much materials, materials not relevant to Biology class. Everyday spent 5 hours, still not completed the homework and discussions. I wish I could had dropped or withdrawn this class, I could not do that, cause I had paid too much for this class. Not recommending her for any students.
never taken class with a professor like her. feel sorry for myself and for the time I spent for reading materials everyday for 5 hours.
A lot of materials out of the class. For one week there were 38 reading, homework, and quiz assignments. Took every day 5-6 hours to complete assignments. Got depression and could not sleep well cause to much homework.
Too much homework and assignments; wasn't able to complete all of them in a week even studied 4-6 hours a day. Got headache and anxiety of such a class and professor. Sorry for myself and the time I wasted for this class.
Still in the class, but almost to withdraw the class because of too much assignments. Too much reading and homework.4 labs and reading 4 different materials' sources to complete the assignments, discussion, labs and quiz. wish I had listened to my friend she forbad me taking class with her, but I ignore her. This class gives me a big headache.
I would not recommend her at all. The recorded lectures are super messy and hard to follow. She made our class participate in an online activity that was not relevant to bio, and made it 20% of our grade. I will not recommend her to anyone. As I felt that she doesn't even understand biology, she says IDK a lot
Too much reading materials from various sources. It is tough to complete all the required materials for the week. Everyday, give 5-6 hours for reading and still not enough. Every week checklist has almost 28-35 readings, writings, labs and and other assignments which come from unrelevent topics. Sorry 4 me.
Too much homework. Everyday study 4-6 hours. Don't ever think to take class with her. She will make your life miserable during the class.
A lot of homework. Most of the students left messages on the discussion that you give a lot of homework these homework from 4-5 different sources. leave 4-5 discussions, 3-4 summaries, 4-5 labs, 5-6 homework and quiz. All of these stuff take way time to complete. It is tough to have kids, work, and have class with such a professor.
Too much reading, labs, discussions and materials not relevant to the class. Materials from 5-6 sources. Learned nothing yet in this class. In one week 6 labs, 4 Discussions, 4 summaries, 4 chapters reading each one has 80-100 pages.
She is extremely rude, does not care about her students, and makes it nearly impossible to pass this class with a good grade. The class average has been 62% the whole semester.
Incredibly rude professor, does not care if students learn material. Expect over 30+ hours of homework per week for only this class. Quizzes have wrong answers on some questions. Miserable experience, will never take a class with her. Most homework and lessons are unrelated to class, lots of information is out of date and wrong.
The lectures are always up and laid out for you. Tough grader, strict rules, no late work/accommodations Nice person Not really engaged in helping us learn Has to curve the class grade bc we're doing that bad...
SHE WAS TERRIBLE, do not take a class with her! It is SOO HARD to get a good grade in this class and is so rude even in her announcements. My current class has been averaging below 65%. She does not care to help students either. I will never take a class with her ever again!
I am used to hard courses. This was not that. This teacher made me feel like I did not matter. The questions on quizzes were not even correct multiple times and were not changed until a student brought them to her attention. My classes average reflects this, and she had the nerve to blame it on her students. Do not take this class.
The class was hard, however, as long as you communicated with her she was willing to work with you. Her lectures are about an hour on average, online textbook (Online class), some of the labs were kind of confusing, but there are extra links to help with them, and weekly quizzes.
Poor experience with this professor. I love online classes, and late start classes. This was not due to having less weeks in this class. This professor cares about the environment, but not about if students learn anything in her class. Many quiz answers are flat out wrong. I learned more by not listening to lectures. Never take this Professor.
The way this professor operates and how overwhelming the homework is, without any clear direction or reason for any of it, was horrible. Nothing was explained properly, information was outdated. This class could best be described as depression on a stained silver platter. If you somehow make it to the end of the class, expect nothing to make sense.
Unprofessional Bully! Half of the assignments were not about biology but her obsession with climate change. If you disagree with her she will insinuate your stupid or ignorant. You could study 16 hours a week and still fail her tests. SO MUCH HOMEWORK! Unorganized. Biased. Rude. She has no business being an educator. Do not take this class.
Recently completed the class, but I wish I had never had a class with her. As much as I know about professors how they give lecture and motivate their students, she does not have such ability. She had too much homework everyday. Most of the class complained about her on the discussion post. Wasted my time taking her class.
Her lecture videos are awful, she is always unprepared. However, after the unclear video, she will give complicated assignments with tough quizzes. The quizzes and exams are 1 minute per question and before you could open the page, 2 minutes are already gone meaning you are answering the questions in less than a minute for each question.
Lectures were boring, but that is what I expected out of a biology course. The assignments and labs were difficult to follow. Not enough time for labs. Very strict rules. Definitely one of the hardest courses I've taken, but I was still able to make sense of things.
She had a lot of quizzes and tests and numerous LABS. Some labs even were not relevant to class, but she wanted to add them to the class cause she likes them. I don't know why still number of students register for the classes with her. She gives a lot of homework. Big time headache. Asked her for reopening and she refused to do it. Wasting time!!
I'm surprised this professor is still teaching. She is not helpful at all and blames her own students for not understanding. She also does not accept outside obligations such as when a student is sick, a student has a funeral, or a student's kid is sick. It is stated that she will not accept any of these "excuses". I would not recommend.
- had to buy 2 textbooks, 1 lab kit, and access to a website - didn't bother to learn my name - massive amounts of work load - doesn't have compassion and was condescending - stressed me out so much, i had to dropped out - did not take my disbilities seriously - thought everything was an excuse/your fault - treated non-major class like opposite
This professor is awesome, I had her, and I can say that I did a pretty good job in this class. If I liked having her, you will too!!!
she is strict on her grading and rude. Her class was not much help. Taking her class makes me not enjoy biology anymore.
Professor Thinesen isn't a terrible teacher. As long as you can meet her expectations that are set in her syllabus you'll do fine. All assignments are due SUNDAY and NO LATE WORK! I got a B in the class but I'm sure I would've gotten an A if I had worked/studied a bit more. I will say, her quizzes are difficult. Make sure to watch her lectures!!!
The layout of the class is great. She has the weeks labeled so you dont get too mixed up. Under each weeks tab you can easily find all your assignments, which really helps you to make sure you get all the assignments completed.
You'll get through if you ask questions about topics you're not sure about. Biology is more fun when you understand it! Though you only have 15 minutes to take the quiz, they're not too difficult. The online course does not require a textbook, but it does require a $250 lab kit, which is why it is marked as required for textbooks.
Pam was very present throughout the entire course despite it being online. Responds to emails quick. Lectures tend to be pretty long but she splits the videos into sections. Very easy online labs and assignments but there is A LOT of reading. Biology content will always be hard but she makes it manageable. Follow instructions & you'll be fine.
I want other students to know that this professor is highly knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. always willing to go the extra mile to help students understand the material and are very approachable. Additionally, she is fair and considerate regarding grading and encourages students to ask questions and engage in discussions.
I definitely recommend taking classes from this instructor. The course requirements are explained really well right from the first day. The best part is how the course material relates to your own life and you learn so much about the biology of all life including humans, and gives great insight to what we can all start doing to make life better.
Professor Thinesen was a very good professor and had a very organized and clear cut online Biology Course. Obviously the content was hard because it is science but she had very good instructions and clear feed back and grading criteria. The class had a heavy work load but you were given a week to complete it. Time management is key.
She warns you off the bat this is not a weekend class and she is correct. STUDY weekly lectures and notes, do not cram or you will not do well. some weeks require more time so plan ahead! Shes very helpful through email. You will learn a lot, be thorough on labs and papers. I enjoyed her class and would take it again.
Pam made this class much more difficult than needed. I expected quite a bit of work for a lab science class, but I would spend hours on one lab question at times. The wording of questions on labs and quizzes were very confusing. It felt like she cared more about making us work hard than learning the material.
It wasn't hard at all everything is understandable. You need time management, she does make it clear that you need at least 12 hours per week for this class. The class is organized, every week there is a lecture, labs, quizzes, and discussions and all of them are due by Sunday. If you are a procrastinator, this class is not for you.
I took her class and struggled so much. She just reads through the power points with little to no context. Yes, lectures are boring but it made it not even a little bit enjoyable when she would just be in one tone reading word for word. I would not take her class if I couldn't teach your self the information. There's more stuff but i cant fit it in
The class can be challenging, but using tools like Unstuckstudy alongside the textbook helps. The professor is knowledgeable, though lectures could be improved. Overall, it's a worthwhile course if you're willing to put in the effort.
She assigns a LOT of homework each week. For the exams, she assigned the same amount of weekly work in addition to our exam. We were given little to no guidance as to what would be on the exam. Her lectures are just confusing; she will begin talking about different topics without much context and without smooth transitions between topics.
She is very transparent with what is expected; do not procrastinate, do the work and put in the time, and be on time. You'll do fine if you do those things. The quizzes and tests are hard; study up on the main concepts of each week. Feel free to ask her questions via email, etc. The amount of homework can be overwhelming but it is doable.
Very experienced. She has command over her content. You will have lots of materials to help you understand your content but be ready to do more. She is strict with her timelines with labs and assignments. Be ready to learn.
Pam knows what she's doing. Every assignment given is to understand the material a lot better. Lectures are easy to follow along with. Read the textbook, do the assignments, and you'll be easy soaring.
Biased in her grading, unclear essay instructions. Failed an opinion based essay because I had the wrong opinion. Get ready for 100+ slides, 10+ textbook chapters, 15+ practice quizzes, a final quiz, a chapter of an unrelated book and a discussion post every week.
It was a tough course with lots of work BUT it was very upfront of how homework and quiz heavy this course was. I enjoyed learning even though sometimes I felt like I was behind for the week. Was always reliable when it comes to emailing and grading assignments apart from labs. I always had the material needed for homework and quizzes.
It was a heavy loaded course, but it was very upfront before the semester even started and once again in the syllabus. I felt like I learned a lot. Lots of powerpoints, homework, and quizzes. It is extremely important to be organized and prepared for this class if you take it.
Worst class I have ever taken. Super heavy on lectures and tests. In the lectures she would just be ready from them. Labs would take at least 3 hours each and the wording for everything was super confusing. The class average grade was a 74 percent.
Lots of work. Including the lectures, videos, labs, 2 external site work, research, discussions, and literature. This class is not for those who expect a normal workload. You must do additional research outside the course. The feedback is limited for the work you do so don't expect much on how to improve your work throughout the semester.
One of the worst classes ever. Boring, stressful, get ready to struggle. So much work, long lectures and quizzes every week. I feel like Pam didn't care about us she only cared about us doing the work and finishing assignments. Very tough grader. Some labs not useful and took hours. Lectures boring didnt even try to make this course fun in learning
Difficult course. I love bio but Prof Pam did not even try to make this class fun in learning or anything. She is so strict and is so hard on grading. The feedbacks she leaves back are vague so you cant really improve yourself for the future. So much assignments, boring lectures, long labs. Lectures and labs weren't very helpful in learning.
This class felt like high school bio but more serious. I appreciated that you have to work for your grade. It's not an easy A, like most classes you take. You'll learn a lot if you keep up. Just make sure the time commitment fits your schedule - or don't take it!
