GOOD PROFESSOR. Everyones first choice is usually Morgan and his classes fill up fast so I was kind of stuck with her but I have no regrets at all. She goes over the material clearly in class and that prepares you for the homework and the homework prepares you for the test. Homework is a completion grade but you want to make sure you do stuff right
best cal2 teacher!it was the only choice i had but she's amazing!this was her 1st year teachin n she does such a great job.props to her, easy class, just study previous exams.super nice!!props to her
I think she's a nice lady. She talks to the class like we're stupid though, so I'm not fond of her personality, but teachingwise, it helps. She dumbs everything down. Big time. It's an easy class, hands down. The homework is the only downside... it's so lengthy and tedius, but without it, I'd never study.
She is a very good teacher. Highly recommended
I had Mrs. Balthazar in high school as a Pre Calc teacher, and she did a great job then. She is willing to help you if you show initiative. I'm definately looking forward to her class next semester!!!
Good Calculus teacher. Print out the notes, go to class and pay attention. Not as good as Morgan, but she comes pretty close. The amount of homework is ridiculous tho but practice makes perfect (even though most of the assigned problems are useless) its only a completion grade. Recommended, if you cant take Morgan.
Very nice and personable. If you attend class and do the homework you should be fine. Leaves notes up for review. Would take her again for cal 3 if she taught it
She is very nice and easy. She made it really easy to understand the lessons.
Nice teacher. But lectures are lightening fast! Either you think, or you write but you cannot do both. But in her defense cal2 has a lot of material to cover. But she's very helpful if you go to her CASA office hours. I had workshop so that's why I made an A.
Professor Balthazar is very helpful teacher She covers a lot of material and moves kind of fast however she works a lot of sample problems that are very helpful She gives weekly homework, online quizzes and written quizzes Homework is a good thing to do however many problems are not covered on the exam She gives hints on what is on exam overal great
She's an awesome professor! Her lectures are easy to follow. If you miss a day of class, she puts up her notes online so you can catch up within minutes! She has no curves but at the end she replaces your lowest grade with your final grade if its better! Overall i went into her class doubtful of her and came out extremely satisfried!*Two thumbs up*
Balthazar is the most amazing Cal professor...I took Cal 1 online and well it didn't go too well so I dropped with a W...I took Cal 1 with Balthazar and I was making 99's on exams!!! pretty good for someone who barely passed math classes in high school
She was good, maybe not for people who don't understand math well though, I love math so I understood everything easily but for people who don't like it or it's just too hard for them don't take her because she will go fast, she doesn't do step by step problems because of time limit but other than that she was great, she gave us extra credit.
balthazar is an angel.....take her men, calculus is bad enough...save urself and get good teacher...she has little cute ways of helping you remember stuff!!!! she hates when you dont participate in class tho, but she's great!
If you want to learn and put an effort to it you will do fine. the only negative is there is ALOT of homework given in lab. She is available for help in CASA but i never went becasue there was too many ppl. If you want help go to UScholars becasue they go over quizes and tests. Dont be disrespectful cuz she'll ask u to leave.
Nice teacher. Theres a ton of homework though. As long as you don't procrastinate its not too bad. She gives the answers the poppers. If you make a 70+ on the final you pass the class. The quizzes in lab were easy if you studied and my TA was very nice and helpful. I definitely recommend her.
She is a pretty nice teacher. However, most of the time I hated her lectures. She goes really fast as if you know everything. Most of the time the notes did not correspond with the homework. You will have a lot of homework and poppers (she does give the answers to the poppers).
The class is very time-consuming due to the long homework assignments and weekly quizzes (in & out of class). None of them are hard if you pay attention in class though. She explains everything thoroughly and is open to questions. Her tests and quizzes are straight from the homework so everything she assigns will help you in the end if you do it!
She is a excellent teacher, i had took her cal 1 and 2. She give a lot problems for hw, but it was very helpful on the test. She prepare for class and will explain everything will be the test. So, i recommended you to take her if you want a good grade. I got A for both of Cal I & II. So better do her HW!!!
made an A. missed 1/3 of semester and showed up only for the poppers. she gives answers to poppers thats why i skipped and had a friend do it for me. Do the weekly quizzes on CASA website to review for your test and you should do fine. GO CASA and look for her or tutors. she explains really well compared to Morgan. take her instead! easier!
Indeed! She is a great professor. But my concern is that there are some problems on the homework and some of the online quizzes that she did not cover. Going to CASA or tutorials and looking for her may help. But don't be too lazy and depend on other too much on your math.
she is a great proffessor, very helpful and pleasant. doesnt tire to assist if u have questions.
Kinda funny. She gives alot of online quizes and homework once a week but its not too difficult and it isnt a large portion of your grade. She teaches off of power points that she makes available online. Very helpful. I recommend her
Best math teacher i have ever had. She teaches you exactly what you need to know for tests. She does give online quizes and homework every week, they just help you get better. The test are easier than the homework and quizes. She also postes her notes online, which is really helpful. I would deffinitely rcomend her. Im taking her for cal II also.
Great teacher who made the material just as clear as a high school teacher. Copious amounts of homework were mind-numbing and over the top, since she does so many examples in class.
She is an okay teacher. But MORGAN is better. I took her instead b/c a friend told me she was better. but she was not. She goes really fast through every thing like if you already know the material. If you are not good in Calculus, Take Morgan first. Let Pamb be your second option. Morgan takes his time, and explain problems more clear than Pamb.
Calc 2 is a hard subject, but she tries to make it as understandable as possible. She is very great at teaching and her enthusiasm and kindness brightens my day; she's like the Paula Dean of math! She does go a bit fast at times, but will slow down if you ask. The people you will despise are the confusing TAs and the graders at CASA.
Yes, Calculus is a hard course, so you just really have to go over the notes and do the homework, even though it took me like 8 hours to do one packet. The types of problems that are on the test are the problems in the online quizzes and on the homework. She's nice and funny.
She's a nice prof. but she goes way too fast. I didn't care for her teaching style too much. Also I noticed that she worked examples that were WAY easier than the ones given on the test/quizes.
She is really easy and very interesting. Made a B without even trying that hard. If you make a 95 on final you get an A in the class. If you make a 70 you pass. She reviews so much that she makes you get the material
She's a good teacher, but she doesn't do the hard examples like on the tests and quizzes. Be prepared to go over your notes and the book a lot! Cal is certainly not an easy class.
She is very good. Extremly helpful when you'r lost, always in a good mood ready to teach. A lot of hw. but it is calculus so practice makes perfect. She does goes a little too fast at times but overall an awesome professor. I'll recomend her.
She is really good. I had her for Cal 2, and it actually made sense to me! She gives the answers to poppers in class, but there is a lot of homework to do. Her lectures move fast, but she puts her notes online, so you can always go back to review.
Very easy. She can go kind of fast, but all her notes are online. Poppers are easy, usually she gives answers. Gives several different test reviews. She is always in a good mood, and really seems to enjoy teaching
She's pretty good. easy to undestand and clear about the material being covered
Best math teacher ever :)
She is the best teacher ever! I had Morgan for Cal 1 and Blathazar for Cal 2, and her class is way better. She is very clear in her method of teaching. Way too much hmwk for my taste but the class itself is not that difficult. Just don't miss any classes and if you need extra help go and see her at CASA but don't use the tutors because they suck.
Her tests are straight- forward, and much easier than her quizzes. If you understand her quizzes, you'll make A on the tests. She posts her notes online, but she takes attendance. She makes Calculus easier to understand. Easy class, but you have to study.
An awesome prof. She goes too fast in lecture @ times but she CARES for the students unlike other profs. If you practice a lot, it should be a fairly easy A. Write down all her notes really helps a lot!
I love her class!! makes like Calculus even more. The only problem is that you have a lot hw, quizzes and EMCF's but its for your own benefit not a waste of time.
Great professor!!I knew nothing about Cal coming into college, having a horrible pre-cal teacher in high school, but Balthazar taught in way that is easy to learn the material. I took her for both CAL 1&2, and received A+ in both. Poppers during class, online and in-class quizzes, 3tests and final(if you make 94&up get an A in class no matter avg)
My grandmother past away the day before a test so I had to miss it. I approached her and she said there is no way I can take it any other time. She smiled and said well the final can supplement your lowest test grade, which every student gets missed test or not. She is heartless, and offers no extra credit. I am a graduating senior that has to pass
Not easy but worth it when you get through. She is one of the nicer professor's I've had the pleasure of learning from.
Took her for calc 1 & 2. she is a great professor she has to go fast at times to get everything covered but can teach the subject very well. the difficulty about clac 1 & 2 isnt how good ur prof is but how good ur memory is. she reviews before every test and they r very helpful in telling u what will be on the test and what u need to study
She keeps the class interesting
She is a very good professor, but expects a lot out of you. I wasn't fully prepared for that. She is very quick-paced, so if you are a slow learner, be prepared.
Absolutly wonderful prof. She will teach the material well and leaves very clear slides on her site for further reference. Cal 2 is hard but she'll get you through it (if you're willing to work your you know what off to get the grade). Recomended.
I rarely went to class, but I got a 100 on the final (95+ on the final is an automatic A in the class.) I used only her lecture notes and the textbook to study.
Best Calculus Teacher Ever! If you don't like math or if you love math, take her. If you want to make an A got to every class and study. The grade is worth the effort.
Awesome professor. Very clear and precise in her lectures. A lot of homework but it helps. You have to do the hw correctly in Cal II to do well in this class.
Solid, very experienced. Strongly recommended for first-time Calc students. If your major is math-heavy (basically any STEM), recommend you take someone else as the conceptual and technical information isn't as solid. Keep up with the material and you will A. Also, Prof. B is smoking hot - she's got a few years, but she takes care of herself.
She is a very good professor. Her lectures were thoroughly engaging and fun. I didn't take Calculus at all during High School, but she made it so easy. Plus, she replaces your lowest test grade with your final. It's impossible to fail this class. Don't slack. Do your homework and EMCFs, you will ace the tests.
It has been a year since it took Calculus 1 and I still made an A in her class. She goes kind of fast but keep up and it will be fine. If you get confused ask her questions after class, she is very approachable and wants you to understand. I also recommend going to CASA or a tutor to get help to better understand it. MAKE A SUFFICIENT EFFORT!!!
Makes you love calculus. Ok maybe not love, but is really concise and fun in her teaching method. She will answer any question and answers them very clearly. There are alot of grades but most of them are gimmie grades, such as attendance poppers and emcfs. If you study the quizzes and know the notes, you will do fine in class. Definitely recommend.
I LOVED HER!! She is really helpful and willing to answer any and all questions. She teaches the material as simple as possible. She is now my favorite teacher of all time! :) I was disappointed that she doesn't teach Cal 3
She's not great at teaching, but the way she set up grading makes the class easy.
She gives alot of hw but all the hw makes the problems easy and tests are entirely from the quizzes. Shes able to explain the problems real well and is able to make math fun.
Class is mandatory bc you answer simple questions to get your attendance grade. quizzes every Friday in lab. And online quizzes due each Friday as well. She puts the notes she does in class online for reference in case you did not get something written down. She also does a good review before the tests.
Amazing professor. I have taken calc one time before and didn't do so hot, but she has been able to make everything understandable. There is a lot of hw and quizzes to keep up with, but working thru all of the problems helps your understanding of the material and ultimatly your grade. I would recommend her to everyone!!!
Too much homework!!!!!!!! Quizzes are hard and homework is too but test are not that bad. Looks for shortcuts while she teaches and skips steps so sometimes you get lost!
recommend to take her!almost fall in love w her class :)) will take her in calc2
Professor Balthazar is a very clear spoken professor. Works a lot of examples, fast paced, quiz due every Friday, homework due every Monday in lab. I recommend her if you really want to learn calculus.
I had Professor Balthazar for Calc 1&2, and she was a very good teacher and explained her subject very well. She expects a lot out of her students, so be prepared to work really hard the second you go into class. Make sure you print the notes and DO YOUR ONLINE QUIZZES! THEY HELP!!
Cal is a time consuming subject which is why it's a 4 hour class. There's weekly hmwks, 2 quizzes a week (lab and online) and 2 emcfs a week. It's a lot but if you keep up with at least a general idea of what's happening you'll be fine. She prepares you well and genuinely wants you to learn-GO to lectures and ask your TA questions-you'll get an A.
Nice teacher. Very helpful, responds to emails in a timely manner. If you pay attention and work hard, you should be able to get an A. Homework due every Monday, Quizzes due every Friday. Opens up quizzes at the end for an opportunity to study for the final and bump up your quiz grades. Fast paced class. Don't slack off.
Balthy is the Bott of Math except easier. Come to class with a good attitude, and you'll do fine. I got an A in Calc 1 and Calc 2 from her. If you take her for Calc 1, then take her for Calc 2.
The class was very difficult in terms of the amount of work. All the work exhausted me and could make or break you. Homework did help with the class. In order to do good you must work hard because this is calculus is like 2 classes in 1. She is a very good teacher and previous tests may be needed to better prepare for tests.
Took her for Cal 1 and 2. She is WONDERFUL!!! Absolutely lover her
Professor Balthazar is an AWESOME professor! I had her for pre-cal and cal 1. She knows the material that she is lecturing like the back of her hand. She is very nice and very helpful as well. I would go to her office hours at CASA and she would help me for hours. If it was not for her help, I would not have did so well in the classes.
Awesome professor, took her for Cal 1 and 2. She's nice, tries to explain things clearly so everyone understands. If you do most to all of the homework and quizzes and understand you should do great in this class.
She SEEMS nice. what she talks in class is so simple, but the HW and quizes are super hard, especially the HW. The knowledge she offers us in class is just not helpful. In addition, she gives too much work, much more than other professors'.
So far she is a really great teacher her lectures are very clear tue homework is a lot. After the lectures there is a section for homework. There are also quizzes but insane homework prepares for quizzes which prepares for tue tests. The class is interactive as you follow the notes along the lecture making everything easier for you. I recommend her. She is awesome. Oh. If you take her class take a sweater. The sec100 is freezing cold
Great professor and very helpful! Her lectures were clear and very easy to understand. Required homework helped to prepare you for the tests. She's also very good with emailing back and very helpful with any problems that occur. TAKE HER. She's awesome.
Doctor Balthazar is an excellent teacher, period. She explains everything in an easy to understand fashion. Even better, you don't have to purchase a textbook for the class (THANK YOU!). She also posts blank notes for you to bring to class and then posts the filled in slides later. Pick her for your Calculus needs!!
easy class if you spend about 3hrs each study. hint: dont stress over the HW, HW is just extra practice(completion grade), BUT do the quizzes until you can get <90 w/o any source. the tests are just like the quizzes. shes cool sometimes goes a little fast but overall awesome.
she is an awesome teacher. she gives you plenty of hints on whats going to be on the test and quizzes. her quizzes and tests are really easy. I love her she explains really well.
awesome, very helpful if you attend lectures. she goes over things more than once on multiple days, so if you dont get something on one day, you have more than one chance to understand it.
toook her for cal one. shes a really good teacher! be sure to attend every class to learn and get as much help as you can from the TAs. but what really killed me was the amount of work we had to do with 5 quizzes and homework due each week
Pretty good professor! I liked her ability to put complex topics into elementary school terms. There is a LOT of work for this class, but it seems that is kind of how it is for all of the Cal professors. The only thing that was confusing was the EMCFs. As time went on, it seemed that they had less and less to do with the topics covered in class.
Very good professor! She teaches well and you actually learn in the class. She does move fast at times, but she will clarify things if you ask her. She gives a lot of hw, but they only count as a completion grade. She gives a lot of review material too so if you do the reviews and quizzes and hw, you'll be prepared for the test.
Professor Balthazar is the all time best!she is super sweet and funny and calculus was SO easy when she taught it. She will take things step by step and her notes are really simple and really easy to follow. She is so helpful out of class she is always there helping people out. I would recommend her to anyone taking Cal I'm taking her for cal 2 too!
She is a awesome teacher, easy to get A as long as we finished the work. Cal 1 is easy when she teaches. Even though we have to do lots of quiz and homework, but those can improve your grade. Her test is easier than the practice test and quiz. Take her class if you want a good grade.
she is amazing professor knows what she teaching and gets you prepared for the tests. at the end you will know the calculus required. and will be satisfied
Dry subject. Daily poppers. Short lab quizzes every friday and homework due on mondays. Online quizzes w/ 20 trys each. 4 tests, one dropped and replaced if Final exam grade is higher. Daily EMCF's which force you to keep up and know a little of what's going oin in class. Pretty tedious and annoying class though.
She is a great and nice teacher, teach well, explain clearly. Just finish your homework and take online quiz, and pass your test, you will receive a good grade. Also she will take 5% of your online test review quiz as your extra point for your each test.
SOOO MUCH WORK!!! Caps for a reason. However, that's departmental so I can't hold that against Dr. Balthazar. She is an excellent professor, honestly cant think of anything negative to say at all. Just do the work. Occupy Library.
Ms, Balthazar is the best math proffesor at U of H, she is extremely helpfu, I always went to her office hours at casa, and she was always there to help me, she is sweet, and she does not mind explaining the same thing many times. Calculus is extremely hard but she made it easier, I ended up making an A in the class, but it was thanks to her
Professor Balthazar was such a helpful person. She really made Calculus 1 feel like a breeze. Every bit of effort made is shown in your grade. Go to class and print out her slides and you should be fine. I love her!
I took her for Calc II, she is AWESOME! I had Morgan for Calc 1 and i think she is a little better than Morgan. She is more lenient and her EMCF are much EASIER than morgan. Calc 2 is a hard class but as long as you do everything she assigns it an EASY class. I did better in Calc 2 than Calc 1. There is EMCF, poppers, lab quizzes, Exams, HWks. EASY
A professor you should take if you want to learn calc. She makes the hardest details very easy to understand and you're bound to learn calc in her class xD I wouldn't rate her easy bc she gives too much hw (20 pages) I had no sleep trying to do them all.
Took her for Cal I the previous semester, but she is even better for Cal II! She seems to enjoy this much more than Cal II and is very clear on what she explains! Great professor!
Took her for Cal I&II and she is great!!! This is the first time I can say I enjoyed math in a long time. I actually did better in Cal 2 than 1. From what I heard Balthazar makes it easier to get a good grade compared to Morgan, but you'll have to work hard no matter who you take. I suggest Balthazar though!!
She's absolutely amazing! Super clear with her lectures and always available for more help. Her notes are all online along with the book. Just do the homework, and you'll be fine, and don't be afraid to ask her questions if you don't understand because she explains things so well if you need the extra help. Attendance is "mandatory" due to poppers.
Online. Way too much work. Vague answers to questions.
Awesome, awesome, awesome. She made calculus easy for me. It was a lot of work, but it paid off when I made a 99 on the final and got an A in the class.
Took her online this summer. This was her first time teaching online and it showed... she rushed a lot, was impatient, and was more disorganized as the semester went on. Got a 97 on the final and she prepped us very well for it, but be warned this is a lot of very time-consuming work, especially in summer. Regardless, good Cal teacher.
Took her online class in the summer. It was her first, and there were some issues, but overall she did a good job. She was clear when she answered questions, and very active on the discussion board. There is a lot of work for the summer class. Do the quizzes several times, and you should do fine on the tests.
Very Helpful. Gives a little more work than other professors.
I loved taking her! If you want to take calculus, sign up for her! She is really helpful and nice.
Very easy and clear. She goes a little fast, a lot of hw but thats with every math teacher, I took her for 1431 and 1432 i got a's in both. Her quizzes are online you get 20 attempts and she replaces one test with the final if you did bad. Also hw is completion.
Gives you print outs of notes so all you gotta do is fill it in during class. Class is mandatory since you have to do poppers. Study hard. If you get a 95 or higher on final, you get an A in the class. Which isn't easy. Studied my butt off for it but made a 96 on final! WooHoo! TAKE HER. She's the BEST teacher at UH! Wish she taught physics...
She is very funny and makes you laugh with her witty ways to remember in Calc 1. Enjoyed taking her class and look forward to taking her again in Calc 2.
It is obvious that she knows the information, but unless you are really good at math then you should not take her. She is the hardest of the UH professors.
Great Professor. She made Calc seem like a walk i the park until you hit integrals in terms of y. Overall I enjoyed her course. Take her, I'm taking her for Calc 2.
Professor Balthazar is freaking awesome! She knows her stuff, she makes the class interesting. She posts all her notes online incase you missed a day or two. She gives a chance to earn 5 bonus points on every test and drops a lot of stuff to help you. If you take her you're guaranteed to pass the class unless you put in like 0 effort. Made an A
She is very helpful and very knowledgeable! Class isn’t required, but she gives poppers every day. She does give quite a lot of work, but it cuts down your study time for tests. If you do the pratice tests you get bonus points. If you have, or dont have, trouble in math, I suggest taking Balthazar she helps you to understand the material.
Knows her stuff! I made perfect scores on almost every test. Made things very clear, and always hinted what was going to be on the tests. I don't know why the class average for tests was around 70s, pretty simple class. I wish she taught cal III.
I love love her. She's make the class so easy to understand and always gives out bonus points opportunities. She's got a great sense of humor too. Mrs. P is the best. Period.
Calculus can be a difficult subject, but Professor Balthazar is straight to the point and makes everything clear. If you are responsible enough to take time to go to the lectures and do the assignments, you should do well.
Calculus is not an easy subject and should not be taken lightly. Balthazar is the next effective at teaching after Morgan. She is very clear and makes it as simple possible. Do the homeworks (don't just copy), do the quizzes until you get a 90+ without notes and you should do fine on the tests. The tests are made to make you think so be prepared!
Balthazar is awesome. She's funny. She's clear and makes Calculus simple and easy. One of the best professors at UH.
Extremely helpful professor who tries to simplify a very tough subject & works just as hard or harder than her students. Do the homework but focus more on the quizzes and work them until you make a 95 without help. For the final go over all practice exams or you will regret it. Exams are simple but detail oriented & it's easy to make mistakes.
A great professor who makes a very difficult subject much easier. Take her for calculus, and go to her tutoring sessions!
Very good professor. Lots of HW but if done properly, you will receive an A. I did.
I took her for calc 1 without any knowledge of calc beforehand besides precal and I passed her class with an A! I would highly recommend her to anyone because I think she is just a fantastic teacher overall. She gives out a LOT of homework but doing the homework really helps you to ace her tests. I'm currently taking her again for calc 2.
Great professor. She explains the material fairly well and uploads all of her lectures. If you do most of the work (that’s right, she lets you skip some assignments without penalty), and perform decently (85+) on the online quizzes and tests, you WILL get an A. I am currently taking her for Cal 2. PS: It is quite some work. Do not slack off!
Professor Balthazar is an amazing teacher. I say teacher because she really knows how to teach. Very helpful in every category and really knows her stuff. Her calc classes were very work heavy, but it's all in good practice. Most consider calc 2 harder than calc 1 or 3, so if you can take her do so. She'll make it as painless as possible.
I took her for Cal 1 and 2. If you have the option to chose between her or Morgan, definitely choose her. She gives out more extra credit and she's a great teacher. Plus if you need the extra help, she gives you a link to Morgan website where he posts his review videos for tests. She has scanned reviews on her website but it's just as helpful.
Amazing professor.Teaches concepts well and is really kind. The only negative part is the coursework load is ridiculous.Daily poppers & EMCFs, weekly HW, in-lab quiz, & online quiz. I also ran out of time a lot during some of the test as half is multiple choice and half is free response Manage your time wisely and practice a lot and you'll be fine
Balthazar knows how to teach the material and make it easier than it is. However, she goes too fast in lecture.; you either take notes and not listen, or listen and take no notes. If you want a professor that truly explains why you do certain stuff in a problem, she's not the right one. 95%+ on final = automatic A in class.
Attend class. Do your homework. Do Poppers. Do EMCF. Do online assignments. SUM(everything above)=lots of extra credit. Great prof, not hard if you try.
She is probably the best math professor I have ever had due to her methods of teaching the class. The amount of work is sometimes overkill, but it serves a purpose. Her exams are not too hard. They are easier than quizzes. If you pass final, you are guaranteed to pass class; 95 or higher, you get an A in class even if you bombed all other exams!
Very helpful and clear professor. Teaches like a high school class which is helpful for Cal 1 and Cal 2 incoming freshmen.
Best teacher ever, really liked her teaching style, made an auto A in cal1 and cal2 with 95+ on final, hw completion, lab quiz, online multiple choice after lecture, poppers attendance, and 20 attempt weekly quizzes which are easy after looking at a few attempts with a lot of correct answers. I wished she taught cal3, that would have been a blast
Organized, straight forward, funny, and awesome. Loved this class, and prof! I am seriously sad that she is retiring, but glad that I got to experience her class.
I got a B in her class because I was an unserious freshman(2010). She is one of the most awesome professors ever! Love her. Her teachings stuck with me till this day.
