Dr. Pamela Blakely is an Ocean of information in the field of Anthropology. Her life experience has given inspiration to countless students to push the boundries of the norm .
A great professor who can relate anything to life experience. She teaches through pratical study and is a wonderful orator.

The best teacher in the entire RACC atmosphere.
Very friendly personality.learned a lot in her course.
Usually late, can be scattered
she likes to talk a lot about personal experiences which tie into her class material which makes thing a lot easier to understand.....she grades fairly easy
She is a very good instructor and as of today two years after having her class I still remember the what the subject was on.
Good personality, class was fairly easy, grades fairly, often late to class
Very personable kind teacher. Who is great at explaining things. She is late to class alot and talks on and on. But she was very informative and the class was def. enjoyable.
she came to class late everyday unprepared and we watched wayyyyyyyyyy to many videos...if your a slacker this class is for you
Class is not hard. Requires three essay based on videos, but are not hard. If your always late to class here is the class for you because she's always late too. Very flexible with people and class ends early often.
Probably one of the coolest at RACC. Late every class, but she certainly makes up for that! Don't miss out...
Easiest class taken so far. She comes to class at least 5-10 min late usually 10. Has nothing w/ her and has to use someones study guide. You read 3 books and take a quiz every class. Super easy. Must take if you have tougher classes and need easy 1.
late, unorganized, lazy teacher but an easy A
To be lost in Dr. Blakely's brain - this is the best part of her classes. She is great to just hang out and talk with during office hours. Very caring person. Yes, scattered, but that has never bothered me so long as it doesn't affect my grade - and it never did. A good, real person.
Great Class!! Prof. Blakely is an interesting person and knows a great deal about many cultures. Tkae this class and have a great time.
Class was easy, but I didn't gain anything from it. Teacher is scatterbrained. Too intellectual to be teaching at this school.
just because you traveled to another country doesnt make you a good teacher. the class was easy... to cheat in because she was always off in her little word of self-importance. she used too many videos from 50 years ago when she should have been teaching her students herself.
Dr. Blakely is perhaps the most intellegent person I have met. I learned so much from her about life and the world we live in. Quite frankly, anyone who graduated from Harvard is allowed to be a little self-important around me. Take the time to listen to what she has to say and you will learn a lot!
She a nut and has trouble staying on topic, doesn't read final papers just grades on completeness. must show up for class, quiz every other day. Nice person, just wierd.

While she is intelligent, she is a horrible teacher. I remember nothing from the class and I went everyday and did all of the reading. She is seriously NuTs. Bad videos. Quiz almost everyday. Horrible in class discussions. RUN THE OTHER WAY.
She has the ability to be an awesome teacher! Very knowledable, but VERY unorganized. One thing though, do the work and show up for videos and youll pass. She tends to attract the older students who like to blabber and get off the subject with their "back in the day" stories.
Very unavailable and forgetful. Her favorite method of teaching is sticking a tape in the vcr and leaving class for a good chunk of time. She goes off on irrelevant thoughts, which is charming, but not when you feel like learning something useful. She doesn't ask much of you. The class is easy, if you are good a teaching yourself the concepts.
Ms. Blakely may be scattered, but that's forgiveable considering you can feel her love for the subject throughout the course. She knows what she's talking about - - you just have to coax the desired information out of her. Talking to her outside of the classroom is a very interesting experience, and you then realize how much she really knows.
Excellant Teacher... The class is unorganized, but she'll always lend a hand if you have a problem or question.
Great Prof! Very nice and understanding!
She is a very horrible teacher. I have never had a teacher that uses movies to do their job. I also did not respect how she was never in the class herself. She's an anthropologist fora living, but not being in the classes makes you wonder if she really enjoys anthropology? I did not enjoy this class at all.
She is NEVER available and very forgetful but the tests are easy.
Dr. Blakely's class may be a little bit of a mind trip, she's incredibly smart, and very understanding. She may seem scatterbrained, but the information is there, and it does come out. I would not under any circumstances pass-up any of her classes. Just being in her presence is an enlightening experience. Try to take her honors courses if you can.
Blakely is terribe because she NEVER shows up on time to class (but you better!) When she does show up, she pops a video in the VCR then leaves. That's how she teaches her classes.....she doesn't!
I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Blakely. She was extremely understanding of personal situations keeping me from my personal best. She gave me the support and encouragement I needed. Simply put, if you do your best, you will do well.
Nice lady, horrible teacher. Couldnt answer my questions on the subject, never knew what was going on in her own class, constantly brags about her own accomplishments, never at class on time. However, if you want an easy A, this would be the class to take.
AWESOME professor! One of the best at RACC!! She is so smart and well rounded! Great honors teacher!
This isn't a bad class to take if you want an easy A. However, make sure you aren't easily rattled when the teacher shows up at 830 in the morning when you are there for an 8 class. Easy class to take but she does not TEACH the class just pops in videos to watch so she can go to her office for an hour! But don't pack up a minute you're on her time!
we watch movies
one of the worst teachers ive every had. she was always late for class, had quizzes every class, but the tests were super easy
Great teacher knows what shes talking about...easy class. do all the book assignments and notebook easy A
I can see she's a kindhearted person, but she simply is an awful teacher...This is my FIRST college course, and she has us completely lost. She speaks mostly of herself and the Honors Program, and has confused most everyone in the classroom with her rambling. She has been late every day, and forgotten to take attendance more than once. Stay AWAY!
Dr Blakley's teaching style made me wonder why I did not take an online course, because I had to do all the work in learning. I found myself just memorizing for tests because she was not teaching. She does not easily make up her mind and she uses class time to dump her life on her students. I wouldn't recommend her class esp. if you need structure.
I feel she was great, she is dedicated and helpful and patient. Just do the work and its an easy A... 6 students in class and 5 of us got A's... She is Great !
Can you say FLAKE-ly? Confusing on assignments. She gets cell phone calls during class AND ANSWERS THEM!She has horrible time management issues. She's late for class, has to go back to get materials (knew you were gonna show film, didn't you?)Knows her stuff and let's you know it. Sweet person, I'm sure, but not the most professional.
Horrible prof. Always late, quiz every other class, and just puts in movies for 90% of the classes. Talks alot about her experiences. Picky about certain things. Dont think about packing up a minute early before she lets you out because she will embarress you in front of the whole class. Would not suggest this class
She is constantly late and when students ask questions she laughs at them and yells that she just explained it.
Dr. Blakely is a great prfoessor and person. She does show alot of film, but that is a main way to learn anthro. She is very relaxed and is not a rigid professor. She may seem to not have a set plan, but she's been teaching her classes for almost two decades. She teaches loosly so you have room to learn freely but just follow her suggentions.
I happened on this site. Pamela Blakely was a professor of mine 25 years ago so I can speak with some perspective. She was one of the best and most influential professors I ever had. Fantastic. I find that what I learned from her continues to impact me in positive ways year after year. I can't even tell you what I learned in most of the rest.
Very nice teacher!Yes, we did watch a film every class, but it had to do with Anthr of Rel.She is very knowledgeable, I would have liked to learn more about her life experiences. She is a very understanding teacher and always in happy spirits. We had fun in her class!Paper and Pres were interesting!Would have liked more interaction with her teaching!
She taught me a lot of things and her experiences inspired me as well. I think that she is the only professor who really impacted my paradigm shift. Many of the things and videos she taught I still talk and think about. Like I kung story of a woman struggig with european intrusion on her life and community.
I have never been so stressed out from a class before. Her teaching skills are non-existent and half of the material on the tests (which is her only method of grading) is either utterly confusing or not in any of the study material (textbook, films, etc.) If you care about your GPA, DO NOT take any of her courses!
She either likes you or she don't, and I don't know what she bases that on. A lot of students found the class really difficult, and the quiz questions are pretty random. The course is quite work-intensive, and at times it can seem as if she's annoyed or bored with the class, which isn't great, but altogether I did like her. Hit or miss.
She is a wonderful professor. Yes she can sometimes be late but so can a student, in which she doesnt hold it against you either. her office is always open for students, she taught me many things. There is a lot of videos but it helped alot. The tests are easy (just listen to the videos) and she is always upbeat. she cares about the students.
Knowledgeable about Anthropology but she doesn't belong teaching.
Blakely can only be described as interesting. While she periodically shows up to class late, she has been in the field of Anthropology for much of her life. Most of the time, she would show videos which did inform and make the class more interesting. Would gladly take one of her classes again.
You will watch films but she has lived what she teaches! She is an expert in her field, I wish she had more time to discuss it in class. Make certain that you do the notebooks correctly with ttl pgs etc. Tests are multiple choice and quizzes every week-STUDY! Know your chapters and don't wait until the end to start your notebook. Excellent prof!!
Any class that includes watching Hey Arnold!, Star Trek, and Bones is fine with me. Seriously, she expects a lot work and challenges her students. Good professor.
I went to RACC 15 yrs ago for an Assoc, but she believed I was PhD material. She believed in me before I did and saw possibilities, I didn't. I have great respect for this woman who has touched my life so profoundly. Yes, she is a bit eccentric, but I'm amused by it. Yes, I worked hard, but now I work in DC for the Federal Gov in a Sr position.
Very qualified for the job. filled with information. however, I wouldn't recommend her as a teacher to everyone. She loves her field, but I don't think she is fit for teaching
Dr. Blakely was nice but scatterbrained and constantly late. Attendance was taken by a sign-in sheet that was passed around when she remembered. Her multiple choice tests were relatively easy and by the end of the class she mostly used questions from the online quizzes from the textbook website. Not my favorite class, but it wasn't hard either.
IF YOU HAVE A CHOICE, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!!! wayy too much work with the reaction papers but if you do have to take this, don't wait on the reaction papers!!!!!
LOVE HER, She is very knowledgeable. In order to understand her you must have some intelligence! I believe her lectures about her own experiences has taught me the most during her class.
B4 taking her class a lot of ppl told me she was crazy & eccentric. I guess those ppl didn't understand her. Personally, I don't agree with them. The only reason she was late was to give us a chance to study b4 the quizzes, which helped a lot. She holds her students at an unusual high caliber and it actually works in terms of student achievement.
She doesn't seem to be interested in answering questions from students, which is a problem if you don't understand what she is asking from you. The class was easy enough, and she obviously knows a lot about the field, but she could use some people skills.
class is very easy to pass if you actually come. all you have to do is show up and watch movie clips. chapter quizzes are easy. you have to do 15 reaction papers to movies, watch film clips and answer questions, and watch 2 long movie and write a response. easy, but time consuming.
Dr. Blakely is by far the most polarizing professor at RACC. Some love her, some don't. If you are OK with a professor who'll consistently come to class 15 minutes late and unprepared, then you'll probably love her. I thought she wasted $400 of mine with her nonchalant approach to education. ...But that's just me.
Dr. Blakely has become a mentor of mine. Of all the people I've met she believes in me more than I sometimes believe in myself. She's good if you work with her. I have seen people texting, and goofing off in her classes. At which point failure is YOUR fault. If you come in with an open mind, and want to learn it works
3/3 memorize the chapters she wrote. And how can I be sure that her grading is objective? She only returned 40% of my graded work. I still wonder how I did on the multiple quizzes and reaction papers. P.S. She insults students with phrases like "you left your intelligence at home" and reprimands the entire class if one person visits the bathroom.
2/3 her own voice. Not only does she go on these tangents, completely unrelated to the course material, but she repeatedly asks questions about herself on tests as if she's the next Dian Fossey. Did I mention that she made considerable contributions to the textbook? She'll never let you forget it, especially getting upset when students struggle to
She's very friendly and willing to help if you put in the effort. She gives assignments to be done so don't do them all at once. Attend her classes and pay attention.
Awesome sauce Did review for every test. She gets off subject but great teacher very engaging. Took this class from 6pm to 830pm and kept my attention.
Must have taken a lot of drugs back in the day. Scatterbrained, unorganized, constantly late- late even meaning getting things started IN class. Takes her 25-30 min not only to take attendance but to remember what class she's teaching. Spends another 10 running back and forth to her office for materials. Did I mention all you watch are videos?
I withdrew from her class 2 weeks into the semester; because I asked her to repeat something she said and she refused at first to do so. Therefor, I knew if she had an issue with something so simple as repeating something, she was going to be one of those "problematic professors."
Scatterbrained like other posts said. Not willing to help- If you need clarification about how to go about writing papers, she looks at you like you're a total moron and gets defensive when you call her out for not giving enough time in class for her videos. She's got this fantastic bubbly attitude but totally out of it. Does not belong teaching!!
I learned back in high school that if a teacher shows films 90% of the class, its both an easy A and a sign of a bad teacher. Super independent study. Basically show up and get an A. Gives you an "I don't know what to tell you look" if you need help writing your papers
Yes, this woman DOES make you watch videos. But they are really interesting, some actually kind of funny. If you miss a video, she will say there is NOWHERE else to watch them but class. That is extremely false, and a nice way of saying "don't miss class" If you search the web... they are ALL THERE. Don't procrastinate...
This course should be taken online. It makes sense as the professor is always late, barely lectures and shows videos. She has a "notebook" due at the end of the semester where all you do is answer the questions for the countless videos you watch. Fun class, but in all reality- if it had the same material online, I'd save my energy and stay home.
She co-authored the book, and doesn't teach from it. Be prepared to figure stuff out on your own. She doesn't explain what's important or why.
Dr. Blakely may seem quirky, but if you approach her classes with a positive attitude she has so much to offer. I especially enjoyed ANT of Religion (a.k.a. Religion & Culture). Once she gets going on sharing her knowledge on a topic, you don't want the class to end. Easy grader - few, if any tests! Paperpresentation & reactions papers - simple!
Food & Culture course was fun & interactive 3 essays, 1 ethnographic paper w/presentation on your paper, NO tests You'll read 3 books & several articles/excerpts, but they are interesting & relate to the course units well. Oh & you'll get to watch documentaries & films! Did I mention you'll EAT in this class?!
If you can avoid Dr. Blakely. This class seems easy in the begin in although quickly becomes your worst nightmare. If you do not read the textbook cover to cover i don't believe you will pass. There are only three tests but they are intense. For each chapter there are five question quizzes although I don't think they ever meant anything to my grade
RACC is lucky to have Dr Blakely. No boring, useless rote learning but lots of learning concepts in functional contexts. It's college and she expects students to come ready to learn. My advice: Come to class, put away your gadgets and most importantly, take full advantage of the knowledge Dr. Blakely has to offer you; don't waste this opportunity.
Dr. Blakely is the best prof I have had so far. Her classes are fun & easy going. There is chapter reading, followed by 5 question "concept checks". There are at least 4 movies watched in class for a 1-2 page take home essay to be submitted with exams. Her study guides for the exams are on point. Do the study guidepass exams. She's the best!
At the beginning of the semester I thought that I would be able to get through it. It seemed easy and while she went off topic all the time, I figured I'd trust her to know what she was doing. But, no. I should have dropped it. She doesn't teach. She tests you and makes you watch videos. She's disorganized. Class states & ends overtime. Stay away.
Love love love this professor! Has such meaningful life inspirations to share, since she lived in Africa for many years. Learned more in this class than all of my others. Tests give extra credit but if you don't read the chapters your grade won't be an A. Probably a C+ or B-. The questions get tricky. This is for her Intro to Anthro class only.
Really glad I took this class because not only does she know what she is talking about but she wrote the textbook herself. Now it maybe off putting that she wrote the book therefore she is always right but that is not the case with this professor. You get to talk with her and ask her questions and she can give you the answer because she was there.
I do not recommend. Shows up late, talks away the class, instructions are not clear, not organized, picks favorites, annoying, a joke of a teacher, bashed other teachers, grade was determined by 3 tests/essays and 6 assignments, useless quiz every class, chapters that weren't discussed or on the syllabus were on the exams. Wish i had more room.
She is horribly unorganized. She is very lenient on how her workload is but doesn't make it flexible for us. She goes off on a tangent from what we are supposed to learn about and in the end I barely learn anything.
One of the best teachers available in the Berks County area. Dr. Blakely is amazing. Gives meaningful and insightful advice, easy to connect with and personable. Assignments are interesting but tough. Definitely worth the work in the end.
She talks from her own personal experience from being in the field (anthropology). She's very funny and what I like most about Dr. Blakely is that she's not your average professor. She does things differently which I think is refreshing. Of course, it's college and if you aren't ready to put in the time and effort, don't bother taking her classes.
I took Cultural Anthropology with Professor Blakely and I loved it. As long as you read the chapters you will do fine. She really cares about anthropology and is incredibly smart. She's a great teacher and a really nice person.
Dr. Blakely is a very well spoken professor, who takes the utmost pride in her work. If you are not mature enough to come to class, read a chapter a week, and write one page response pages to movies shown in class, don't take her class. If you want to get an A you will have to put in some work, but it is even more rewarding once you are finished.
I once asked her a question about something I thought I read in the book, however it was my interpration of what I had read. When I asked her about it she gave me the book and told me to find it, of course I couldn't because it was my interptration. I said sorry for the mistake and she responded with "wElL i WrOte ThE BoOK, i KnOw WhAt It SaYs"
As long as you do the reading you WILL pass, organization is key in her class
Love, Love, Love Professor, Dr. Blakely :) I would definitely take her course again
Very strange semester. I took food and culture and I did not know what I was going into to. Very lenient on essays and doesnt really grade. Had to make up your own essay topics. But you go to watch movies and the work load was not too bad
If you want a professor who shows up late to every single class and is disorganized Pamela would be a good choice. She never grades anything on time and always posts assignments on canvas at the last second. If you have to go to the bathroom during the 1hr and 20 mins class, don't plan on it because she won't let you. She shouldn't be a professor.
Somewhat unorganized. Many classes were just a video while she went out to do other things. Often disregards the mandatory textbook, but puts book questions on the quizzes and tests. Tests also pull from the videos in class. Good person and often funny but a disorganized class.
She used her 2006 textbook. I took her spring class, but she dropped my A- to a C IN THE SUMMER because I no longer had the notes. Notes were not graded. I asked. I was pissed because she ruined my GPA and all because of a baseless accusation. The book wasn't even relevant anymore. I have friends from the places in the books and they were lost.
There are pros and cons to Dr. Blakely, I personally would not take her again because of the cons. Pros: - Easy in class time, watched lots of films Cons: - Hard to ask questions, gave answers as if you should have known it already - Didn't put grades in until 3 days before the final She wrote the textbook and its vital to study the textbook.
She got genuinely mad at me after I suggested that a native 'land acknowledgment' felt like something only done to make people feel better about themselves, instead of actually solving anything. She barely let me make my point, then called me ignorant as I was leaving the class. I've had more civil discussions with my 7 year old cousin 😐
The class is lecture heavy, however the professor isn't really professional lecture wise. Facts and details are thrown all over the place and she constantly forgets what we went over in previous lectures/classes.
I like Professor Blakely, She is very silly and kind. I will say sometimes she does get a little sassy and she is not organized at all. However, She is still a great professor and I would take her again.
Dr. Blakely is great! She is very kind but can be sassy sometimes. She doesn't have the best organization but her teaching is pretty good. She is very helpful when needed.
