Wonderful Teacher! She's really understanding and has a nice personality. Likes to joke and most of her lectures are just stories. She is a SUPER easy teacher, she has a group quizzes and on my final she only gave 5 questions! She's really fair so if you like to slack off, don't pay attention or text during lectures than she will be mean to you! ;)
VERY INTERESTING. GROUP QUIZZEES ARE GIVEN, NO POP QUIZZES. STUDY, AND YOU WILL DO GREAT. ALL THE FINAL QUESTIONS ARE FROM THE "FINAL" REVIEW WS. SHE GIVES VERY INTERESTING LECTURES. I HAVE TAKEN ALL OFFERED PSYCH CLASSES FROM HERE.
She is FUNNNNN! Love her teaching style and the way she communicate with students. Take her class, read the text and you will do just fine (at least youre gonna get a C)
Dr. Costa changed my life and made me want to be a better student!!! Her classes fill up quickly, so try to register early or you won't get her class.
Very challenging class, but Dr. Costa explains in a way that made it make sense... She has high expectations, but stretching is good for the mind!
I became a psych. major after taking her class. She made science interesting and explained things I never understood from other instructors, teaching the same class!
After taking this same class with another teacher, I finally got a great experience...what a difference between the way others teach and Dr. Costa! She actually CAREs about her students and their learning, making us take responsibility for what we learn. she's amazing! Only take her if you want to work hard a learn a lot!
Online aby class was awesome!,,she was ALWAYS AVAILABLE which made mw want tokeepmup with everthing Thanks to Dr. COsta, i will take more onlin classes....wish they could all be taught be her...a real teacher rather than professor who professes to know stuff. She really cares.
Thanks to dr.costa, I am totally commited to my education! I learned so much from the class and her. Thank you!!!
Great class. Everyone should take it just to learn more about understanding others and ourselves...challenging but clear.
Taking the Web enhanced course. Clearly too much info trying to be crammed into three class lectures a week. Not enough time to go into detail. Over half of the class is failing. She is friendly enough, but a bit full of herself.
so incredibly hard So much work. Homework and quiz's are very specific relating to the textbook or assignments. It can take up to 2-3 hours per quiz/ homework assignment cause the questions are so specific. So much reading and just a very busy and hard class to take online. She makes a very interesting subject and makes me not want to learn it.
Keep up with the reading or you will get super far behind.
Great class and awesome instructor!
I took Dr. Costa's couse online. It was SO easy. No essay required! Each week you do a discussion, matching vocab words, anda 20 point quiz. There are 3 critical thinkings throughout the quarter. I'd be surprised if one person failed the online class. She always emails you back right away! Her instructions are clear and right to the point.
Great teacher. She wants you to succeed and will go out of her way to ensure students understand. Difficult stuff, but science is hard. She has high expectations, but makes it very do- able. You will lean more from her than any other psych teacher
Hard material if you are not a science person/major. More bio than when I took psych years ago. Chapters long, book is okay. Quiz every week due sunday, homewrk due wednesday, and 5 critical thinkings, a midterm and final exam. If you want an A; read the book, study, and view the links. I would take her again if I was a psych major.
Dr. Costa is a great professor. Uses her clinical experience to help explain what is being taught. Overall fun class with moderate work involved to get an A.
She is an amazing teacher! Extraordinary help. I totally would take one of her classes again! I recommend this teacher if u want to learn about psychology!
This was my 2nd class with Dr. Costa, this one was more intense than intro. Not an easy A, 16 or so chapters plus online content. Dr. Costa is there to help but be prepared to know the chapters in detail for quizzes and exams.
I LOVED this class. She gave very interesting lectures and she made everything fun. Tip: STUDY PAST QUIZZES AND HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS FOR HER TWO FINALS. It helped me a lot. Do not fall behind and do the work! It was not an easy A but she gives you all the materials needed to get an A. I would take her again if I could.
Dr. Costa is a good teacher. You will enjoy her class if you are caught up with the reading. 2 quizzes weekly that are easy (and most the answers are on google). This class is an easy A!
Absolutely rigid and inflexible. Often comes across as condescending. uses a lot of "..." expressions. as in, "Did you even try and study....?" Quizzes cover a LOT of material, and seem to only ask questions on minor details rather than MAJOR points. Some E.C. Dont expect her to work with you. Hard earned B+. this class is my second B in 18 months.
This class in all honesty was OK, but I would not take another Psychology again. Each week their is a quiz, discussion board/CT, and a weekly homework assignment. Assigns TONS of reading and with my other classes I could barely pull a B out of this class and I am a straight A student. My advice would be not to take this class in a hard quarter.
Amazing class! I changed my major to Psych because of Dr Costas inspirational teaching and confidence in my abilities. This class is a life changer!
Dr. Costa WANTS YOU TO SUCCEED! She clearly cares about every student and wants them to learn psych. Psych is her passion, and you can tell by her lectures online and emails. If you do the assignments, you will learn more in this class about LIFE than any other college course. She has high expectations, but also tells you how to do things well.
Great class, inspirational teacher who knows her stuff! Requires a lot of reading and writing, but you learn so much about how to have compassion for others who have insurmountable mental health issues. Thank you for opening my eyes!
Dr. Costa certainly expects A LOT from her students. The required reading per week can be a bit much in my opinion. I would NOT take this class with other intense classes in the same quarter. I worked very hard in this class but could only manage a "B"...and I am an "A" student. I learned a lot, but felt overwhelmed with content most of the time.
Dr. Costa is an amazing professor. Her lectures are interesting, and she is very nice and helpful. She wants every student to succeed. You have 1 homework assignment and quiz every week, and on some weeks you have 1 or 2 short extra assignments. You also have a mid-term and a final. Everything is online and very easy. I would take her class again.
I really enjoyed taking this course! I am like the busiest person in the world, yet I passed with an A. Just read, read, READ the textbook! Highlight or take notes! The grading criteria is very clear. Just know your material and you should be fine. She gives great feedback, and is very helpful.
Dr. Costa really CARES about her students and you can tell that she wants them to be successful and enjoy the class. She is VERY STRUCTURED, so you always know what to expect, when things are due and how to do well. She also gives a lot of outside help on writing and test-taking, so it was a lot like a study skills class as we learned psychology
Okay I might not like her that much as a person (she reminds me of my mom) BUT she is a seriously great professor. She is so clear about what to study, how to pass and is ALWAYS available if you need help. There's a lot of work but it's all interesting and has serious importance in the class.
So far halfway through the quarter and I am loving this class. It is online so its a little harder to fully grasp concepts but she does a great job of giving extra help and reminders. Barely any assignments basically just a couple things due by midnight on Sunday each week.
This was one of the best online classes I've EVER taken! If all of the TCC professors taught this way online, then I'd be willing to take more, but Dr. Costa is an exception! She is clear, structured and always available to us, even on the weekends. I learned how to think crtically about different social situations for the 1st time.
Dr. Costa expects a lot, but is also very supportive and generous with her time. She really goes the extra mile to explain difficult things. I started questioning everything I heard about people, because Dr. C wanted us to be critical thinkers. Now I know how important it is to be skeptical and not just take someones word without looking at science
Dr. Costa is among the best professors at TCC, if not THE best. Her class was engaging and informative, and even the homework she gives is interesting and works your mind. Dr. Costa was very helpful and takes time to really explain the material and what is expected. Contacting her was very easy and she is quick to respond. 1010, would take again.
Dr. Costa is amazing and so helpful- she makes a huge effort to communicate with her students, to be clear, and to prepare you for the mid-term and final (Which are easy if you pay attention to lectures). Keeping up with the small homework assignments will set you up for clear understanding of the material. Also, take advantage of reading the book
Dr. Costa is an excellent professor! She is VERY good at communicating and is constantly asking if we need clarification, which is very nice. She truly wants us to learn and be interested in psych., so that makes her lectures fly by. If you do the assignments and attend class you will get a good grade. I recommend her!
Her grading was cruel. Errors on her part were left unresolved, and tarnished my grade. And this happened on three assignments, as well as two more that the entire class suffered. For a person of her learning, she was shamefully discompassionate and condescending to students. Not enough characters to say how bad she was as a teacher and human.
The grading is crucial plus you have to know the material on the quizzes and tests because some of the questions are tricky. Make sure you read the chapter for the week.
Professor Costa was a good teacher. She's not the most understanding person but she is nice. If you do the assignments and do alright on the quizzes & 2 exams then you should pass the class with a good grade.
Pretty easy class, got an A even though i skipped every 2 weeks or so. She seems nice, got be can get angry pretty easily.
Really interesting class!Loved this class and even more the professor.I didn't think I would like her at the beginning she seemed strict but after about two weeks her routine wasn't actually crazy strict and she was super helpful in explaining concepts even when they seemed super hard. I would definitely take this class again! Ok to miss some class
Expect to do a LOT of reading! I've taken numerous online courses, hers falls short. she's pretty vague on what to expect on the weekly test and her weekly "case studies" are just an added quiz for the week. She posts lots of articles to read and a few vids. Big downer no recorded lectures. She managed to kill a subject I was highly interested in.
Terrible teacher.
Great class and gives phenomenal feedback.
Dr. Costa was really good at giving feedback and having great lectures. Must remember the little things and take notes on the WHOLE chapter. Extra credit does occur but she won't say when so ALWAYS check canvas because theres almost 40 points extra. Overall good class.
At first, I was iffy about Dr. Costa, then I realized what a decent prof she is. Each chapter is clearly defined on what you should know and she covers all of it. Every assignment, test, quiz is known on day 1. She CLEARLY knows her material. She is easy to talk to and understands real life situations. Lectures aren't mandatory, but lots of info.
I wouldn't take this teacher again. The grading was incredibly unfair. Awful feedback system. Terrible at explaining the concepts.
Went to class everyday and the professor rambled for the first 30min of class and then skipped through powerpoint slides. Exams are multi-choice and written by the professor so thought process is unclear. Never answered questions correctly and only provided unrelated handouts. Spent more time talking about personal life than the actual course.
Ms. Costa is great and she makes class enjoyable by relating the textbook to everyday life. Each week there was a reading check, an online assignment where you answer around 5 questions, and an online quiz. It definitely takes time to read the textbook and take quality notes. It's easy to see her outside of class and get good feedback on work.
Dr Costa is an excellent teacher! I don't know what other reviewers were taking about who said that they didn't like her class. It was the ONLY class that I looked forward to at 8:30am! She described Psych concepts in a way that made me wanting to hear more. Her tests were based on material covered in class, so if you take notes, you'll get A!
Loved this class! Dr Costa is very responsive and always made us feel connected to the Psyc concepts and each other. Learned not only about mental illness, but about my own career path and goals. I want more of this class and just wish Dr Costa taught more classes at TCC!
So for this class I was expecting to learn a lot and kinda be guided through the basics of psych I've already took 2 other higher psych classes and this one I thought was gunna easy was the hardest for sure you do ALOT of selflteaching and her exams are hard because the way she writes her questions are awfully hard to understand, it's frustrating
This class was not quite what I expected. I felt like Dr. Costa had great intentions of "walking you through psych" with her personal stories from being in the field, but overall she spends more time on the stories and less time on the material, and then throws a ton of reading at you to somewhat "self teach" the concepts.
Abnormal psychology is my favorite field of study. Because of her, I will take this class again with a better teacher. She relies on just tests to teach and half of the time the questions aren't even material that the text covers. Then she asks you to thank the classmates and her that you never even talked to because the class was self taught.
Dr. Costa is the best teacher I've ever had at TCC and I'm close to graduating this spring, so that says a lot! She is so organized and clear with what to expect! There's no question about what to study and her lectures go by WAY too fast! Now I see why all of her classes fill so quickly. Take her if you can schedule in time!
I'm so glad that I took Costa for psych! At first I didn't know what to expect, but she made everything totally clear and easy to follow, espe. for an online class. She also checked in on us frequently so we were not just doing online work alone. She was also always available in her office in case I needed extra help! Loved her class!!!
Dr. Costa's Abnormal Psych class made me decide to major in psych! She really made me think about how our society treats people who have mental problems and the larger issues around stigma in our society. The class was much easier than I expected, and I actually shared a lot of the material with family and friends, so it was personally helpfl
I didn't think I'd like psych because I heard that it was hard with a lot of reading and writing, but I loved Dr. Costa and the way she taught! She made the concepts easy to follow and the class was so structured that it was easy to get the work done. I think I might major in psych now after doing really well in Dr. Costa's class (I didn't pass Soc
Pamela Costa was an excellent psychology teacher. The lectures were very interesting - take notes during them. The weekly quizzes are only 5 questions each so be prepared. Follow her tips for studying and it will really help. She makes you work for the grade but appreciates effort from students. Hard class but great teacher!
Abnormal Psych was challenging but I learned more about real-life issues than I have ever learned from ANY other class before. The time went by so fast since I was totally interested in Dr. Costa's material. She provides great videos and interviews with real patients for us to diagnose. GREAT CLASS and very kind professor. Love her!
Dr. Costa is one of the best teacher's I've ever had! I took her for 100 and then online 220 and loved it too. I didn't think I'd like an online class because I really like the way Dr. Costa lectures, but she made the online class totally personalized and just as fun as her 100 class. You HAVE to read the book, but if you take notes it's easy.
I took 100 and 220 from Dr. Costa because her teaching style works best with my learning style. She is so clear and organized and I can easily follow what to do and how. I learned SO much about what people with mental illness go through and now want to work with counseling because of this class! The assignments are not that hard and actually fun.
Loved this class because Dr C is so good at teaching and making sure her students understand psych. This was the 2nd time I took the class and compared to other teachers, Dr. Costa knew how to explain things so much better. She is so patient and made learning theories and SCIENCE easy to grasp. Not a lot of work, but you have to read.
Dr. Costa's Aby class was not only educationally helpful, but I learned so much about how to think about behavior in general. Before taking Ab Psych, I really didn't understand why people acted strange or different. Now I have more understanding and compassion toward the mentally ill. It also helped me understand family better. I LOVE this class!
I took Costa for 100 and loved the class so much I took 220 just for fun as it was not part of my major. Costa is very organized, which makes online classes easier to follow. I learned more about how culture influences our lives in this class than in any of my multicultural classes! I love her assignments- they make you really think but are fun.
Dr. C is the BEST teacher I've ever had in college! She genuinely cares about each of her students and obviously wants us to succeed. She's so clear and tells you what is on the exam and what to read. Some students who don't read complain that she's hard, but all you have to do is take NOTES on everything she says and you'll get an A!
I waited almost a year to take Dr. Costas Abnormal class and it was so worth the wait! It was the kind of class that makes you think about your own life, values and future goals. I became a psych major after Costa's Psyc101 class because she was so inspirational. Now I'm majoring in Psych because of Costa! She makes it easy to do well and is nice!
She's terrible. If you're trying to take psych, get someone else.
Shes an overall really great professor. Will help you on anything you need. And if you struggle, and ask her about it. She will help you to succeed. Great professor, very kind and funny
Whole class was very clearly set out. Her lectures are very helpful and often questions on test are verbatim to her lectures. As long as you read the textbook (one chapter a week), pay attention in her class, and do all the assignments, you'll be fine. She's always open to help you as well.
Costa is absolutely amazing. I loved her lectures to the extent where I hoped class was longer! She explains things very thoroughly and is willing to answer any questions - just ask! Because the class is only 3 times a week, be prepared to read on your own. But if you try, you will get an A. Trust me, you will not regret it. Take her!
Dr. Costa is one of the BEST professors I've ever had and I only wish she taught more classes for me to take. If you attend class, take notes, and just read the 1 ch a week, you'll do just fine in the class. She's very caring and wants you to do well and get an A. Take her!
Costa is the only reason I took this class and it was an elective that I had to pay full amount for, but it was so worth it. My major is actually chem, but I just wanted more time with Costa to learn all she has to share. She's so clear and offers constant support. We only read 1 ch a week, so the class is pretty manageable even though it is a 200
um, she's just ok.
Costas class is challenging, but she explains things well and s you need to do is apply her little tools and youll do fine. She wants you to learn so get ready to READ. And prepare for class!
She never gives full credit for any of my forums. I try really hard to make them thoughtful, but they are still not "specific" enough.
I had Dr. Costa for 100 so I was inspired to take abnormal, even though I didn't need it to graduate. I am so glad that I did. It was the best ONLINE class ever, as she was so organized and graded things so quickly. Her feedback helped me improve my writing (APA style-she's a stickler, but will give lots of guides). LOVED learning about the disease
I took Psc100before and got a D but took it wit Costa and improved because she actually cared about what her students were learning and if they did well. I even liked going to her class and learned so much about even science and how it is part of psychology. Costa is caring and will help you if you ask and is always avail to her students. She's fun
Prof. Costa is so enthusiastic about psychology and truly cares about each of her students. She happily answers any questions you have and is extremely clear about what she expects from you. There are 5 pt. quizzes each week but she emails you to tell you what concepts will be on them so they are super easy! Definitely take this class!
She is the best professor I have ever had at TCC. She actually cares about her students. I took Hybrid online, her Canvas site is extremely organized and puts great material on there which is only to benefit her students. I HIGHLY recommend her. She uses real life examples to make the concepts in the book come alive and make sense. TAKE HER CLASS.
Dr. Costa is a great teacher who really cares about her students. Her lectures get a little off track from time to time but for the very well spoken and she makes sure that your question gets answered.
I hesitated to take an online class because of past experiences, but Dr. Costa made her class very organized and streamlined. I always knew what was due and when. I really liked the little video activities that helped my understanding of the book. Great class for anyone going into working with the public and mental health disorders.
If you read the chapters and take notes the way she shows you, this is a great class that anyone can pass. I really liked how organized she was and how she obviously wants students to do well and learn, but they have to work for it. I broke down my reading into 20 min a day like she taught us and got an A-, but I had to dedicate myself. Take notes!
I took psych before and didn't pass but then I took Costa and got an A because she wanted me to pass. She is very clear, gives great handouts and study guides and tells u exactly whats on the test and what to expect. Just make sure to tkaae notes on the readings and you'll do fine. Plus, she tells good stories that make the concepts interesting
Dr. Costa is very nice and always explained things in a way that made sense and was interesting. Lots of outside homework, but totally easy and just practice. Nothing real hard but I learned a lot about why people act the way they do, prejudice and attitude formation
Costa is very approachable and kind and gives extra credit. Psychology isn't easy but she makes it fun, provides good examples that I related to. Most of my friends told me to take her and I'm glad I did. Just make sure to write down everything she says in class andyou'll get an A!
I took her online class. She is super difficult. There is a lot of reading and not a lot of instruction. Discussion boards are graded tough, so make sure you elaborate on everything. She offers feedback and was available by email if needed. Overall, I would not take her online class again.
Abnormal Psych really opened my eyes about how stigma impacts everyone and only hurts society. DrCosta is so nice and always explains things even tho the class is all online, I wish it would be offered in person because I know how she lectures and it is great! Take this class if you want to learn about disorders. No papers, which is good but just n
I took both 100 and 220 with Costa and both classes were very well organized and 2 of the best online classes I've ever had! Costa explains exactly how she grades and gives very clear directions and always responds to emails, even on a Sunday! If you want to really learn and if you can follow directions, then you'll find it easy!
GREAT CLASS! We had all week to complete assignments so totally on our own time. The readings and videos were so interesting, I got my work done early each week. Costa is VERY responsive to questions and is very clear. Take this class if you need to learn about mental illness, which most people all experience in family or themselves. GREAT GREAT
My sister and I took Costas class together so we studied together, but wanted to talk about what we read and watched in class anyway! This was such an important class not just for graduation requirements but for life! I learned that my experience with anxieties was normal and I learned more compassion for those who have severe mental problems.
LOVED HER CLASS. I took Costa for 100 and liked her style better than any other teacher at TVC, so I took Ab for elective. Not too much work &! she gives you a week to complete assignments Quizzes easy & only writing was in discussions which were fun, and inspiring! I made a few friends & only got B because I missed 3 quizzes, so my own fault.
LOVED this class! It was my first online class and now that's all I want to take if they're all like Costas class. She's very structured and you know what to expect each week with no surprises. There's a lot of reading, but if you break it down a little each day (like she says), it's dooable and the quizzes are easy. There's no papers.
The only problem was this class was too short and the class time went by too fast so it needed a longer meeting time. I loved Dr. Costa and her style- very interactive like we were having a conversation and not a lecture. Easy quizzes and she gives lots of easy assignments to earn all your points. She just covers a chapter a week so not too hard
Loved this class. So structured so that you just go thru modules each week, take the quizzes and watch videos. Costa's quizzes are open note and you don't even need them if you do the activities for the chapter in LaunchPad. She also gives review guides beforehand so just know the info on the list and get an A. I also liked the personal relevance.
Great class. Lots of reading- a chapter every week, but Costa explains everything in class. You just need to do your notes or you won't pass the exams, but she lets you use notes, so just write everything down. I learned a lot about the brain and how memory works which helped with other classes. Costa's very nice.
Loved this class! Online allowed for flex sched. so I could work. Costa gives a week to complete 1-2 chs of readings, launchpad activities and a few videos. Gives study guide for quizzes which are pretty easy if you've read. Learning about disorders helped me understand friends and family better. Great class and good discussions.
Took this during the summer thinking it would be too much during regular quarter, but it was totally manageable. Pam made the class so interesting and I just wanted to keep reading. Discussions were mini-research projects but she was very generous with grades and lots of feedback. GREAT class, flew by!
Great class that you can use for understanding family and friends (ha). Professor was nice and made us feel connected to each other via online environment. Fast feedback (like, a day) to my discussions and questions. Wish she had more videoed lectures as I learned more from when she talked and gave examples. Easy but not too easy that I didn't lear
Just finished summer class and it was the BEST class Ive taken at TCC and I've been here over 2 years. Took 220 at last minute to transfer more cred to UW and now I wish I had taken Costas other class, but graduated already. I felt so connected to other students and she gave constant feedback like she was right there. Easy class if you just follow
LOVED AbNormal and wish it didn't just end. It went by so fast (summer). Just read study guides and submit notes and quizzes are easy! No real papers but she tricks you into writing each week thru discussions, which were actually intense but I learned a lot about how to use APA. Keep up with reading and its totally manageable. Stickler for writing
My favorite class at TCC!
Work was intense, but you learned a lot. Had peer reviews, which was great because you could really connect with people even though this was online. The only thing I wish was maybe having one meet up session every other week or so, just to see everyone and discuss. Grades were posted quick enough, my second class with Dr. Costa, she is great!
I didnt particularly like this professor. I've had some fantastic professors, some okay ones, and some that made me regret being in college. Honestly she is one of those professors that made me regret being here and taking this class.
Sweetest person Ive ever met. Her class is so structured that it is so easy to know exactly what you need to do for assignments. She is very helpful and cares about you as a person. Incredibly organized class, very chill if you just do the work.
I took both of Costa's classes and find her to be very good. She's fair but also expects you to read. Even though the class is online she's alwasys available to just come meet and go over stuff on campus. Do the reading and its easy to get an A, plus she really wants you to learn and love psych.
My sister and I took both of Costa's classes because she really cared about us. She is so kind and always available outside of class, even tho she was online, but we knew her from 100. Just do the readings, which she breaks down so take notes and you'll get an A. We used quizlet, which Costa provided, and reviewed for tests together. Great class!
I have nothing but good words to describe Dr. Costa. She is truly one of the greatest professors I have ever had. She really does care about you and will always do everything she can to make sure you pass the class. She does a great overview of psychology. She is also very inspiring. I was considering changing from psych major, but now I am all in.
She is one of my favorite professors ever! She used to be a clinical psychologist, so she really knows what she is doing. She says that there will not be a lot of extra credit, only some quizzes on the online access code, but she will see if show on TV that has to do with psychology and make a discussion that has you write your ideas.
I loved Costas class! She breaks the reading down into small sections w mini quizzes, so its a lot of reading, but not overwhelming. I loved the material and am thinking of changing my major to psych! Fun class!
Dr. Costa is incredibly supportive, positive and encouraging. She is very fair in her grades, reasonable in her homework and testing requirements and is extremely responsive and accessible. She provides a wealth of resources and plenty of ways to succeed wit homework and tests. I highly recommend her!
Costa's Ab Psych class seems like a lot of work at first, but once you get in aregular schedule of about 20 min a day, it's pretty manageable and definitely enjoyable. Because of the 2 programs-Launchpd and Canvas, it was hard to figure out at first, but just remember to check in 3-4 days a week in BOTH sites, and you'll do fine. She's great!
I learned more than I thought about disorders There's no papers but Costa does grade like youre writing a paper (college level) on your disc posts, so make sure to check for errors. Costa gives great feedback and very quick to respond, like within 5 min. every time I contacted her. She grades quickly and with good feedback so you can improve. gr c
I was surprised but I LOVED this class so readings were easy because they were so interesting. Dr. Costa is so positive and encouraging and provides weekly feedbk about all work. She also allowed me to do extra credit when I missed a test. I may major in Psych after taking this class. Just do the readings and take notes!
Weekly discussions made me feel more connected to others and improved my writing. Costa is a generous grader but gives good feedback sink always felt I could improve without feeling criticized. Shes reasonable with the workload and rally knows disorders. Wants students to appreciate diversity and stop stigma, which we all need more of! Fun class!
Responds quickly to questions (online) and provides very clear directions so you always know what to do. Always helpful and understanding. Super nice and the tradings were so interesting I wanted to do the required work, which made the class feel easy, but we learned so much! Take her!!! I only wish she taught ALL of the Psych classes.
AMAZING CLASS! Dr. Costa is the best teacher I've ever had in college, and I started at PLU and came to TCC last year! She made Psych fun and I wanted to come to class every day. Gave tons of chances for extra credit that actually meant something and made you learn. TAKE HER!!!
Awesome, caring, feels like she's always there even though the class was online. So supportive, and she wants you to succeed so gives extra credit. I learned so much about disorders and I changed my major to Psych from nursing. Take her! I just wish the class was longer and we could have met face to face.
Costa is such a sweet, compassionate teacher. I don't know what I would have done without her this summer, when I was struggling and she reached out to me and offered support. She CARES, not only about our learning the material, but about how we are as humans, especially 'stressed" students. She just gets it and makes the class fun! TAKE HER!
Take Costa! She explains everything and tells you exactly what to study on tests! Just do what she says (take notes on what you read) and it won't even feel like "work", but you'll just want to keep learning. She's totally understanding, but also provides structure. For an online class, I've never felt more connected to my peers, and suppported.
Just finished summer quarter w Costa and she's the best prof I've ever had! Summer's harder than other quarters, but it flew by. Costa explains everything clearly, no papers, but she sneaks in weekly writing with her DBoard prompts, requiring APA style. Not too many tests, and she gives study guides and practice quizzes. Great class!
Great class, great teacher, made you think about things differently, but in a good way. DrCosta is super organized and all of the assignments are given ahead of time, so no surprises. She also grades super fast & was only teacher I ever had who responded immediately to my email questions, even about other classes. TAKE HER!
Pam Costa is a gem! She really wants students to do well and will go out of her wan to ensure you understand- gives great real-life examples to the science. Just check i Canvas frequently and keep up with the work and you'll do fine. Its organized so its super easy to follow. She also gives immediate feedback and shows she CARES! Read a little dail
Attend class, read a little every day, and submit assigm on time and you can't fail! Costa sets up the class for success and has it super organized. She's always available outside of class and will review 1:1 so take advantage before tests. Gives study guides and ex credit! Great lectures with relatable examples. VERY enthusiastic!!!! Love her.
Interesting weekly discussions that make you think differently about things while hearing others ideas; not too much reading, weekly quizzes are very fair, great feedback! Costa is very good at explaining concepts. I was able to meet her in her office even tho online class. She's GREAT!
Dr Costa is my favorite TCC teacher! Take her if you can since she only teaches Gen Psych and Abnormal, and her classes fill quickly. Very clear grading, super structured, gives immediate feedback and always checks in w you with updates and helpful things to improve your grade. Do the extra credit!!! It makes a difference but is also fun. Amazing!!
Loved this class! Costa is a great teacher who truly cares about her students and their learning. Lectures 3X/week, with mostly online work so you can go at own pace. Great lectures that make everything relevant to your own life so you remember. She really wants youto succeed and goes the extra mile to help you out.
Online class that was very structured and organized so that it was easy to work on. Costa was very present and always provided good feedback after every assignment. Tests were easy, she gives study guide, so just know everything on the guides and you'll do fine. She also has discussions that were fun and made you think. I'll take Psych220 with her!
Absolutely brilliant& organized professor. Dr Costa makes complex topics easy to understand and truly wants you to understand. She's always there for help and is extremely compassionate. Loved her lectures, if you read and stay on top of assignments the class is an easy A. Attendance isnt necessary but i would recommend going for comprehension.
BEST TCC professor ever! Costa is one of those rare teachers who cares about her students, not just what they learn, but as humans. Online class but felt connected to her because she was in constant contact. Learned more about science than in my other science classes! Also, you'll learn how to think and write for other classes. Take her!
Took Costa for 100 which inspired me to take 220, even tho not part of my plan. Costa is a master teacher, and knows how to deliver information in a way that sticks! Gives great and rapid feedback and I actually looked forward to doing online work because it was so interesting. I learned to be less judgy about others with problems. Great class!
Dr Costa inspired me to change majors to psych., and I've taken 3 classes from her. Class is so well structured and she's in contact with you all the time, so you don't feel so isolated. Loved the modules and even read ahead because more interesting than my other classes. She gives great feedback and super fast. Not "easy" A, but totally manageable
Stay on top of the readings and you'll get an A. Costa really cares and gives you plenty of feedback and activities to help you learn- you just have to DO them! Online classes are hard to keep up with, but Dr Costa is so structured and gives hints and freq reminders, so there's no way to fail unless you just don't try at all. Love her!
Loved this class, however it is online so hard to keep up unless you check in daily, but Pam C makes it really fun and is totally organized. I could have gotten an A if I finished the work, but I still learned a LOT- psychology is a SCIENCe, so don't expect it to be easy or common sense. Pam will make it so you have all yo uned to do well, she's aw
Dr. Costa is a God send. I wish she taught every class I will be taking. She responds quickly if you have a question, she is a fair grader, she cares. If I had to do it over again, I would definitely choose her again! The videos that she has you watch are always amazing, too. I often found myself sharing them with my friends and family.
Im a Bio major, so didnt need the class, but only took it because Dr Costa was so inspirational in 100! I learned more from her about SCIENCE & how it serves humanity and empowers, than any of my other science profs (bio, chem). Even the online format was engaging and I felt connected to Dr Costa and my peers, who Im still n contact w today.
Dr. Costa is the kindest, caring professor I've ever had and I am about to graduate w/my 2nd deg this year. She checks on her students constantly, giving encouragement. I even changed my major BECAUSE of her! She taught me that I could understand science, it just takes the right approach. She'll challenge you to work hard & and will also inspire!
This was NOT supposed to be an online class, but due to COVID, was switched at last minute. I almost dropped, but Dr. Costa encouraged me to stay and I'm so glad I did! I HATE online classes, yet Costa's class is now my favorite all-time class and we're only 3 weeks in. I had no idea I could learn online, but Dr C makes it so easy and seamless.
My sister & I were originally in the face to face, but the class changed to online due to virus. We almost dropped, but so glad we stayed in Costa's class. She just returned 1st exam, and gave such encouraging feedback that I want to start studying NOW for the next test. Costa's lectures are the ONLY ones I want to watch, and she's fun and cares.
I'm midway thru Costa's class and it is my favorite class this year. I didn't hink I'd like online and frankly disllike my other online classes (due to Covid), but Dr. Costa has our class so well structured and gives constant feedback. I always want to start with Psych and end up putting off my other classes, because Psych is so fun! Take her if yo
I almost dropped when classes went online as I am NOT an online learner, but I'm so glad I stayed in DrCostas class! I've already learned more about science in this class that I did in Bio or Chem. She breaks it down so things are easy to remember and gives great comments on what we did right and how to get better. I'm taking more Psych next quartr
Love this class! It's online and my favorite class. Costa gives really quick and helpful feedback and clearly cares about her students performance and personal well being. She checks in all the time and makes it hard to not pass, as she sends reminders and "nudges". If you normally avoid online classes, this is good one to start with. You'll learn
I took this class, and Health Psychology from Dr. Costa - she's amazing. She provides very clear instructions on how to succeed. Although you will do quite a bit of work, it's interesting and all of it helps you to really learn and retain the concepts. She is very caring and accessible if/when you need help. Do the work and you'll do well!
Pam Costa is the BEST TCC instructor I've ever had and I'm graduating this week so I've taken many courses. I just wish I had taken her class earlier, b/c she taught us Study Skills plus psych disorders and how to reduce stigma and clearly identify all of the "isms". She made me want to continue my education and go on for BA and maybe more. TakeHer
Loved this class! It was the only online class that made me feel connected to mypeers & the teacher. Dr. C was in constant contact w us and made me feel cared for. I'm actually sad the quarter ended last week, as I'll miss Dr. C and my classmates. I learned so much about mental health dis., especially my OWN mental health! LOVED THIS CLASS!
Weekly m/c quizzes help you stay on top of material; Pam gives study guides so exams are manageable; Weekly writing assigs were actually fun and relatable to own life; Video lectures great; The ONLY bad thing is the class ended too soon! I had so much fun and finally felt like I got to know people in an online class, and made friends. Thanks.
Ab Psych was my favorite college class! Even though it's only taught online, I still had a great experience and felt very attended to by DrC. She was good at giving me feedback and even provided reminders about upcoming assignments. The theme was how to fight stigma and now I feel prepared to really identify how mental health impacts everything.
Weekly mini quizzes help prepare for bigger tests, but Dr Costa provides extensive study guides. No book, only small reading pages and videos. Loved the Case Studies where I could apply my knowledge like detective. Keep up with weekly readings (not bad) and you will get good grade. I got B+ only because I totally overlook an exam and didn't contact
LOVED this class! The only problem was I always wanted to do the readings and even quizzes, and put off all of my other classes. I even enjoyed the "extra" activities Dr. Costa provides, as there was just so much to learn about mental illnesses- Everyone should take this class. Easy 10pt quizzes, weekly discussions and 3 tests. Discussions great
Just started Ab Psych for summer, but I can tell you now that this is the most organized online class I've ever seen! Dr Costa is in constant commun with us and I feel like I'm getting personalied, 1:1 attention. She just told me to 'redo" an assignment I missed some points on because she "knew I knew it"! OMG love Costa! Her classes fill up quicly
Taking now, but wanted to comment that this is the BEST online class I've ever taken! Pam has it set up so we focus on a disorder a week, and the reading is chill, with cases and discussions that are easy. Not a lot of writing and 4 m/c tests based on the weekly open note quizzes. I wish I had taken this class earlier instead of other electives.
Costa sets up the class in a structured way so you always know what to expect, with plenty of time to plan your weekly schedule. I love how organized she is where every Wed we have a case study and Fri quiz. Not a lot of writing, but you do have to use APA referencing for ALl assignments, which is good for psych majors to practice. Great feedback.
Loved this class! Make sure to check in Canvas frequently for her announcements that always have quiz hints and answers. Provides study guides with ALL quiz questions ahead of time. Case studies enjoyable and easy. Readings were easy as long as you took notes esp on diag criteria for each disorder. Costa is VERY involved online so take advantage.
Costa gives the fastest feedback than any other prof I've had at TCC (im in my last quarter). She's caring and accomodating, but also sets high standards that help you improve. I learned more in Ab Psych than I did in any of my other classes, so make sure to read everything she provides! Keep a schedule to keep up w due dates.
After taking this class with another teacher and hating Psych, I retook it with Costa and had atotally diferent experience! I love psychology and now I want to take mre clases and maybe major in it. Dr. Costa set a high bar, but supported me all the way up to where I wanted to work hard and even enjoyed it! TAKE HER if you can, but her classes fill
Dr. Costa class was fairly easy as long as you do all the readings and do well on the weekly assignments. She actually cares about you and will reach out to you! I love this class so much because of the way she teaches! Definitely recommend her.
Pam is great! Structured class, everything laid out, understanding, no lectures, "textbook" was online & free, really cares for her students, provides opportunity for 1 EC assignment, helpful resources, replies quickly to messages. This was an easy A but there is a lot of reading but not impossible. Never thought I would love psychology this much!
Loved this class and just wish I would have taken advantage of the points Dr Costa offered but I spent too much time on OChem instead. I seriously considered becoming a Psych major after this class, as it was SO fascinating and mental health affects everyone. Take Dr. Costa, you won't regret it!
I took psyc before and couldn't stand the boring teacher and didn't wnat to take it online but needed to replace my grade. I was shocked at how well I liked the class and actually got into the material this time. Costa made the class fun, easy to follow and I wanted to do the assignments. He feedback is immediate and yo always know your grade.
LOVED this class! It was online and the best class (online or regular) I've ever taken at TCC. Pam is very clear, gives super fast feedback, and as long as you communicate ahead of time with her, she'll work with you and your needs. She's a stickler for communicating in advance (before due dates) but is very flexible if you do. Assigns were all fun
Pamela is kind and sweet. Her class is organized and easy to navigate, however just be prepared to read quite a bit. Might be the same with all psych classes? I would for sure recommend Professor Costa, though.
Dr. Costa was great! She was very consistent with assignments each week and even gives reminders for when things are due so you don't forget. She sometimes has Kahoot practices for the chapters (just for fun), offers extra credit until a certain point and you are able to take the chapter quizzes twice if you need to. Would definitely recommend her!
Dr. Costa was an excellent professor! She was clear on her grading, and gave extra credit. There's a fair amount of notes, but they were always interesting to read. No need to purchase textbook, she provides the textbook. Quizzes and exams were timed, but no webcam required. She's really caring so don't be afraid to contact her! You won't regret it
Awesome, easy to follow, well organized, loved learning about the brain, disorders, development and how to improve my memory. Costa is so sweet and constantly keeps in contact with her students, so you never feel alone in an online class. Take notes daily (20 min a day, like she says) and you'll find the weekly quizzes easy and the exams not bad.
BEST class I ever took! Rather than working on my other classes, I always wanted to do my Aby Psych first, bc it was so interesting. I learned SO much and Costa was always there, checking in on us. Costa is very kind and extremely responsive. The readings are free and easy and the quizzes easy if you just take notes each week
Highly recommend Costa's classes! Just wish she taught more than just Intro and Abnormal since I learned more from her than any of my other profs. She's very organized, clear and gives constant feedback so you always know what to do when when. Her lectures are mostly from reading and discussions with some brief videos and Ted Talks w great discuss
Awesome class! Very organized and easy to follow w great info about disorders- just take good notes (like Costa emphasizes) and keep up with the readings. I spent 30 min a day taking notes on the subsections so I felt ready for weekly quiz. Exams cover cases, dis boards and quizzes, no surprises. Costa's responsive and helpful.
Dr C is an excellent prof who should teach other faculty about how to teach online! Her classes are structured in weekly modules, very organized, and set up so you succeed. Just follow her instructions and you can't get a bad grade. Take good notes on the readings, which she pre-highlights and thn repeats on exams. Disc boards great way to connect.
TAKE THIS PROF! She is so kind and wants all of her students to succeed. Weekly modules are very organized and easy to follow. Textbook is free and she offers extra credit in week 8. As long as you take notes and do the work you will pass this class. One of the best profs I've ever had!
Dr. Costa is an amazing professor! Her online class is so well organized and we only had about two assignments and one quiz per week. It was a lot of reading and note-taking, but as long as you stay on top of it you'll be fine. She is also super understanding about issues outside of school just make sure to communicate!
She is very clear and organized making online easy to follow. Great information that relates to everyone's life (mental illness). Gives quick and helpful feedback that motivates. I loved this class!
My fave class! The readings are free and organized in weekly modules. Just make sure to tAKE NOTES on what you read and the videos (dispursed within readings). Exams are 100% based on the readings, so no surpirses. Costa's very responsive and seems to enjoy interacting. Wish we could meet in person to benefit more from her awesome lectures. Great
Weekly quizzes and biwek discussions. Not too much work, but you learn a LOT! Take notes to succeed and watch all of her videos! She's super supportive and cheers us on each week. Read all announcements and do her Kahoot practice since they're the same info as quizzes and exams. Lots of good info covered- Just wish we had more time to go further
Well organized, great info., doable quizzes & exams (if you read and take notes), and the assignments were actually fun and interesting! The ONLY thing about Costa's class I didn't like was that it was too short and the quarter ended too soon. I was getting so into learning about the brain, emotions, stress and disorders that I didn't want to stop!
awesome class! Costa is the sweetest person and truly cares about her students. When I got sick, she was the ONLY teacher who was willing to work with me and continued to support me even afterwards, showing that she truly cared. I wish I had her for all my other classes since you learn a lot and feel like you're part of a community in her class.
Be ready to read- the book is online but you need to commit to daily reading to not fall behind. The class moves fast, and I wish we could spend more than a week per topic, but Costa is good at communicating and very organized. She also gives a lot of chances to improve your score so make sure to check Canvas frequently to avoid missing deadlines.
Dr. Costa is a nice, caring teacher. Provides one EC and extra resources/practice. Case studies and quizzes have no timer, but exams do. No papers. Discussion boards, quizzes, and exams. Responds fairly quickly. Provides the text on canvas and it's best if you take notes. Class is moderately easy and it's interesting. Just kind of a lot of reading
Weekly writing hw, quiz and exam is every other week. Take notes each day and the quizzes are straightforward. No big papers, just smaller writing assignments that are interesting. Stay on top of the online readings and its easy to get an A in her class. She is organized and gives good feedback.
LOVED Costas classes- both 100 and 220 are the best organized online classes at the college (I'm graduating)! Weekly schedule with a quiz, a case and about 15 pages of reading, plus tons of videos- take notes on them! No long paper but smaller writing assigns, plus weekly discussions she grades as writing so proof read! Fun to learn disorders.
Costa's classes are always filled so if you can take her, you are lucky! She's very organized, gives fast feedback, weekly quizzes that are easy if you take notes on the readings (free and online), video activities are fun and 5 exams that feel more ike quizzes. use the study guides she gives you and communicate with her cuz she'll offer help.
Awesome! you'll end up putting more work into Psych cuz it will be your favorite class! Work ahead of time and don't procrastinate and take notes on the weekly videos and readings to earn an A. Costa will review your notes to help you know what to focus on, and always responds to questions right away. The qtr went by too fast and ended too soon.
Favorite class I've taken so far at TCC! Costa is so nice and truly cares if you succeed. The class is by far the most organized class I've taken, so assignments are easy to find and you always know when they're due. No big essays or papers, just weekly homework, quizzes, and an exam every other week. Take this class if you get the chance to!
I loved Dr. Costa so much! She was an amazing teacher without even giving lectures. Although there were no meetings or anything, she provided countless resources and tools for you to succeed. I had never taken a psych course before and it was an easy A, but I studied a lot. There is a lot of reading some weeks so be prepared. Loved this class!!!!!
Took 100 & 220 w Costa and not a Psych major, but just loved her classes. Wish she would teach others or "teach" others how to teach! Most organized, well planned online classes at TCC and gives immediate feedback. Weekly "writing" but broken down so it doesn't feel like a lot. Made us "cite" the text each time, but that led to good habits. awesome
Weekly quizzes, video quizzes, and a few paras of writing with exam every 2 weeks. Super organized and fast to respond to questions. Made learning fun and i learned how to think differently (critical thinking) for other classes. Costa's sweet and genuinely wants her students to succeed. Not an "easy A", but totally reachable if you follow her guide
Dr. Costa was super sweet and you can tell that she really wanted you to succeed. Her class is not an easy A, but if you put in the work and show her that you are trying your best, you will do just fine in her class.
This class was so easy and she made it so fun. Such a sweet little lady.
Dr C is one of my favorite teachers! Her classes are super structured and easy to follow, but the readings make you think. I changed my attitude about mentally Ill and am more open and less prejudice BC she opened my eyes to factors I never considered about racism and poverty! Costas a true advocate for those w-o voice and a master teacher
Took class w my sister & we loved studying together. Rec class to our entire family! Weekly case study, easy quiz & discussion w APA citations which we hated at first but then became habit so Costa knew what she was doing! Study guides for exams are generous. Some little lectures and lots of brief fun videos that we watched together as a treat
Homework instructions were clear and simple for me. There's a good amount of (interesting) reading involved
Best class at TCC! Mental health effects everyone and you learn about the disorders by working thru cases, reading, and a weekly mc quiz. Super interesting and easy. Costa is passionate about fighting stigma and makes her students want to learn. I changed my major to psych becuz of Costa. She's so organized and sweet, too.
Very organized and structured online class w clear assignments that were fun & relevant. Weekly case studies & video quizzes helped learn the diff disorders & DSM. No papers, just discussions. Costa is caring and always available to her students. The only teacher I had who got back to me in 10 min even on weekends so she cares for her students
This was the BEST web course I've ever taken! She's very organized, and you know exactly what to expect every week, and for the entire quarter. Just take notes on readingsand her videos and the quizzes are open notes, but I honestly didn't need them because the material was so interesting. i just wish Costa taught other classes besides 101 and 220.
DrCosta is the best instructor ever! Class is structured so you can follow along and just read or watch videos at your own pace each week. I learned more about mental health and real life challenges in that class than any of my other psych classes. Week quizzes and deep class discussions. Wish she taught othr classes than just 100 and 220.
Best online class ive seen at TCC. Costa is very organized and gives immediate feedback or, "nudges" to not forget assignments, which is so helpful. She gets how hard it is to keep up online and gives 7 days to submit work. Easy chap quizzes and only 4 tests that are like the quizzes. Great videos with questions I learned SO MUCH and j
I just regisgtrd for Costa's 220 class only because I want to take anything she teaches & im not a psych major! Her class is laid out so you just read, watch her video & answer m/c questions, and you're learning! I love how she responds to questions lightening fast and has fun practice quizzes on Kahoot each week. Optional Zoom meeting helps connec
Well organized, great online format, gives great and fast feedback, readings not so hard and great videos. The only drawback is it is only online and I could see where in person we'd get more of her lectures, which are excellent and leaves you hanging on the edg of your seat! Wish she had more zoom meetings to interact beyond 2 hrs/week. Fun class!
Super clear, short videos, wkly open-book quizzes and the exams just repeat the quiz questions so if you know it the 1st time, the exams are very easy. Writing every Wed but based on real-life applications of the readings, so they're interesting. Great video "quizzes" and she meets 1 hr on Zoom to talk about interesting stuff and help you succeed!
Great class! Weekly cases and quizzes. Do the readings & you'll pass. Videos are great and I learned so much about mental health that evryone needs to take Costa's class. Very organized and she's so responsive and felt her presence even tho online course- she interacts w students constantly. Just wish offered f2f cuz her lectures are the bomb!
Like others stated, Costa is a sweetheart and an amazing teacher! VERY clear, easy to follow, reasonable expectations for workload, and if you communicate with her, she'll actually repond & work with you, just do it BEFORE a deadline! Weekly discussions, quizzes and fun case studies so you can apply your skills. Loved Ab Psych! Wish she taught more
Costa is the best Psych prof b/c she is knowledgable about psych AND how to teach! Class is organized, structued in a way that makes sense w/o any confusion. Weekly discussions are interesting & you get to know other students in small groups. Open note quizzes lead to exams (no notes) that reinforce what you learn. Costas very responsive & cares!
If you stay up w the readings (Costa tells you to break them down into 20 min sessions), and take notes then the weekly quizzes are straightforward. Exams repeat quiz questions and have short-answers but if you do the weekly PAQs (applied) these are also very straightforward. Reading 20 min/day really helped me. Just don't get behind. Great class!
Absolutely love her!!!! Im taking her again next quarter. She is an amazing professor, she answered all my questions when I needed help. Her drop in zoom sessions were also helpful:) The textbook was for free, all you had to do was download it! Quizzes and exams were simple also!
Probably the MOST organized teacher. Very easy class, pretty much common sense. She sets you up for success. There is a fair amount of reading, but it would be impressive if someone failed this class. I took it online and I would highly recommend for someone taking harder classes.
If you follow her schedule for daily note-taking and reading, it's a cake walk! Costa is super sweet and explains things so well. It's an online class but she has ways of connecting the material to your life so you WANT to study-in fact I put so much time into psych that I ignored my other classes! Weekly quizzes and FUN videos-Costa is always avai
I took dr Costa for 100 and HAD to take any other class she teaches! She's organized, clear and tells you what to expect. For an online class she checks in on you all the time so you feel part of the class and she'll meet via Zoom to talk about deeper stuff- Lots of info about mental illness, so just be careful if you're going thru something.
I'm changing my major to Psych (from bio) after this class! Wkly writing assigmts, & quiz videos, but all manageable. Just KEEP UP and don't fall behind. Take notes on what she highlights FOR YOU! Dr. C is kind and so passionate about psych. It'll be the class you wANT to study! Follow her outlines and while easy, I learned the most from this class
I had Dr. Costa last quarter for just psychology. And ever since then, i wanted her to be my professor again. She loves what she does. She grades things pretty quick, she responds fast if you reach out to her. She gives give back for pretty much everything which is very helpful. She does zoom drop-ins, those are always fun to attend if you want to
Best class ever, even compared to regular/on campus classes! Weekly quiz, case studies were fun and 4 exams not bad. Discussion boards req APA writing but Costa gives a TON of APA resources, feedback and seems to want students to succeed. I learned more about psych than any other class and how disorders are so stigmatized. LOVE Costa!
Costa was highly recommended by friends and her class is always full so I'm glad I waited 3 qrts and finally got in! We had weekly quizzes, vid activities, and personal reflections that didn't feel like "papers" cuz they related to our life. She taught me how to study and learn and I loved the topics. She responds immediately and is always there
Costa is sweet, and responsive and you can tell she wants you to learn so she is organized and her online class is structured. Weekly quizzes are easy if you just take notes on the readings (not alot) and watch her videos. Loved the case studies and only 5 discussions, just enough to feel connected and explore current events. I'd take her again!
BEST class at TCC I ever took and I graduate next month! Dr. Costa is clear, responds immediately, and her assignments are so fun. Just do the weekly readings, take notes, and watch her videos. She wants her students to succeed, so it's on you if you don't, since the class is set up so organized. She offers e/c & Zoom sessions where you learn s
I took this class before and could not follow the instructor until my friends told me to take Costa who made the entire experience worth it! It's all online and NO books, but still readings that she wrote and she added things like "now write this down for the test", and little jokes. Shes sweet and the weekly writing is personalized and fun.
I've taken 2 Costa classes and they were both excelelnt! She's very organized, and responds immediately which is important for online. You just have to set a schedule to read every day for the weekly quizzes. The cases are fun & you can use notes for them. Exams are straightforward. No papers, just a few meaningful small group discussions.
Now I know why this class is hared to get into- It was the most helpful class I ever took at TCC and opened my eyes to the importance of selfcare and stigma around mental illness especially among BIPOC peoples. We have weekly cases that are fun, quizzes and if you just take notes on her readings, you automatically know the material. Great videos!
Dr. Costa made PSYCH 100 & 220 absolutely a breeze Yes you have a chapter to read every week and yes there are plenty of notes but in all honestly im working almost full time with 2 other very rigorous classes I can get all the notes done and pass the class I took PSYCH 100 and fell in LOVE with psychology and Dr. Costa so I signed up for 220 !
Dr. Pamela Costa is honestly one of my favorite teachers. She is caring and wants you to do well. Her assignments are not long and are interesting. Every week we watch a vid and answer 5 m/c questions. you will succeed in this class if you just read the material. I highly recommend taking costa's class.
PROS: Extremely well organized online class, clear directions, Costa provides immediate feedback & responses, interesting info that you can apply to personal life, engaging activities, study guides, no long papers, learn from reflections and she's just so kind! CONS: Wish it was longer & in person for her captivating lectures.
GREAT class! Everyone needs to take it, even non-psyc majors to learn more about mental health and the stigma that surrounds it. Great readings, case studies, study guides for biweekly exams (doable), take notes and earn A. She makes you feel like she's "always there", even though online, BEST online class i've ever taken at TCC. Take it!
Not as hard as 100, so I was surprised by the workload- weekly quiz, case studies (fun), discussions and 4 exams. I alwasy did my work for this class 1st because I enjoyed what I was learning and Costa makes it interesting. She's also VERY responsive and cares about EVERY single student. Didn't feel like a typical online class cuz she was involved.
BEST class at TCC I've ever taken! Super organized, clear directions, & I always did this class work before others because I felt like I learned something and my scores accurately reflected the work I put into it. There's weekly quizzes, case studies (REAL cases, cuz Costa is a real psychologist), DBs and 5 exams. READ & take notes.
I took 100 before w another teacher & struggled, & DrCosta was highly recommended and now I know why. Totally different experience than other class. I learned so much and she encouraged me to try whenI felt down onmyself. Online but she's THERE, always availabel & checking in. Quizzes felt easy if you just take notes like she says. LOVED this class
Just took Pam's final and I must say, it was challenging but very fair. She provides study guides for all tests & 4 days to submit. Take notes a little each day & it pays off in the end. At first I was afaid it was going to be a huge workload due to so many activities, but they're manageable and fun! I just enrold in her AbPsy class & can't wait!
Professor Costa is a really good teacher, there is a lot of reading in this class but if you read and take notes and pay attention to her feedback you will have no problem passing her class.
Awesome teacher & class! Wish it went longer & had in class meetings, but the online format was very organized & easy to fowllow. Weekly case studies, m/c quiz and video questions, so just take notes on the readings (NO BOOK), & easy A. Psych is hard but this teacher made it easy to understand & she's always present & helpful.
Costa's super responsive & grades quickly w lots of feedback- READ her feeback since she tells you how to improve on the next assignment. She seemed very involved in the class & we got messages throughout the week which was nice for reminders she called "nudges". Quizzes straightforward & just take notes & use her study guide. She's very sweet and
Dr. Costa is very knowledgeable about abnormal psych and offered weekly zoom meetings to explain and answer any questions about the online content for the course. Take notes and use her exam guides and you'll do great.
One of the BEST online classes I've ever taken! Super organized, weekly modules, with 7 days to submit a few case studies (easy) and an open-note quiz. Interesting discussions, but only had 4 the entire quarter. Dr. Costa is very "present" in the class, and I can tell she frequently monitored progress and communicated well. Take her!
I've taken every class Costa teaches! She's very organized, provides clear grading criteria, and does not overwhelm you with long papers. Weekly quiz, cases and a few discussions and 5 exams that repeat the questions fro the quiz. She gives very detailed study guides,so make sure to use them and you'll have 90% of exam answers. She really cares.
Dr Costa is my favorite TCC professor! She's so passionate about psych and will convert you to become a psych major! The online classes are so organized and you have a weeek to complete everything. The readings require careful notes, but she'll remind you to "take notes' with weekly quizzes and PAQs. Keep up w readings every day and you'll pass.
GREAT Class! Even tho online, Costa is in constant communication w you and grades super fast- she must be on Canvas 24/7, cuz I sent a question at 10pm and at 10:05, she responded and made me feel better about everything. She geninely cares about her students and wants you to succeed. I felt like she was right there, even though we never met!
You'll love Costa! Took her for 220 this summer and it was even better than 100, which was also excellent. Her classes are online, but she's VERY involved and interactive and responds very quickly to any questions. Weekly timed quizzes are not too bad IF you read the chapters. She tells you to take notes which made all the difference! Love her enth
Dr. Costa is very organized, responsive and passionate about psychology! She has high expectations for her students to read and take notes on the readings, but she also gives a LOT of examples, study guides, quizzes and chances to do well. She truly wants you to learn (not memorize) the concepts and will help you. Stay ontop of due dates, & read!
Will be taking her, will update my review after. Wanted to say, carefully examine her other reviews. They are clearly posted by the same 1 or 2 people. Check syntax, word choice ('LOVED this class!'), tone, flow, punctuation! and randomly capitalized words ('GREAT', 'BEST', 'READ'). Either she or a student(s) is padding her reviews. Hilarious.
Clear & easy to understand the readings & assignments- same weekly schedule was helpful. Fell behind after an illness & she reached out to see if I was okay- only prof who really seemed to care that I passed.
Class was well organized & structured so easy to follow if new to online learning. Be prepared to read a new module/ch each week, but very interesting and even useful info so it was enjoyable. Prof Costa gives quick replies and solid feedbak so you know how to correct for future submissions. Not a lot of writing.
The textbook is provided by the professor online. Has an exam every 2 weeks and chapter assignments every week but not heavy it's light work and fairly easy. She gives back great helpful feedback, and lets you know the areas you need to improve on. Beware though, she does not accept late assignment unless you have a good reason for it.
Costas teaching style is very hands on which was helpful in an online class. They were present and interacted with me several times a week, and gave immediate feedback and replies to messages. Lots of chances to improve your grade w weekly quiz and video activiites that were easy & fun. The readings were broken down into subsections. Great class.
Although very heavy on the assignments and amount of time needed for reading everything, I always enjoyed the content and the class in general. Quizzes/exams reflect what is being learned for the week, and the prof. always replies to messages in a timely manner. Absolutely loved taking her :) Just be aware of how time consuming the class is.
She really aims for her students to understand and retain information so in my personal opinion I think she tries to stay away from overloading you and stressing her students out. She is very kind and communicated often, replies quickly, and passionate about this subject. She wants you to succeed in her class. Would absolutely take again.
She seemed always present even tho online class. reached out several times a week and seemed very genuine and was caring and kind. Assignments were fun but make sure to do ALL of the reading- there's a lot but she breaks it down into chunks for you and all quiz questions wre straighforward. I'm taking her again next quarter!
I just registered for Abynormal psych because Costa is the best teacher I've ever had! I waited 2 quarters to get into 100 cuz her classes fill quick so register early. You have 3 assignts a week, including a small quiz and if you take good notes then the quizzes are easy. Dr C gets right back to you and is good at staying in communication.
Absolutely loved this class and Dr. Costa! She really cares how you do in her class, and takes the time to get to know you even though its online. There is a time limit on tests and quizzes but if you do the reading you will do well.
Pam Costa is a great teacher-took her for 100 because of the way her class was set up. easy to follow, structured, straightforward, just read and take weekly quizzes and fun little video activities. Learned mroe about mental illness than in my nursing classes.
While this class has lots of reading, it is interesting and I always would want to read it first, so just be prepared to read everything (online book was nice). Weekly case studies, quizzes and 3-4 exams that were similar to her quizzes. A few discussions, more would have ben better, but they required research. Costa responds and was very involved
Dr. Costa is one of the best teachers at TCC & I've taken 2 classes from her but just wish she taught more than just 100 and 220. She gives weekly outlines or reading notes, has great videos and while there's lots of activities they are not "fluff" and you actually learn life skills from them. I feel prepared for my next psy classes at UW.
Great class w real content you apply to your own life. everyone should take this class about mental health since everyone is touched by it in one way or anothr. Weekly cases, quizzes and a few discussions and 4 exams, pretty easy. Very straightforward and Costa gives study guides w all exam quests so you know ahead of time.
After try9ing to take w another prof, I got into Costa's class and felt a huge sigh of relief. it was such a difference between profs that it felt like a totally different class, so be careful w who you take! Readings were long but notes and videos were helpful and quizzes open book. Video quizzes and pers applications were great and helped learn.
Her teaching style was very involved and hands on even tho it was online, she always communicated with us and responded to messages immediately. Straightforward syllabus w consistent weekly assigns like little quizes, videos and personal app questions that really helped make things rememberable. Just do the readings & follw her outlines. Great clas
Weekly written reflection questions, quizzes & video activities are clearly outlined. Readings are long but interesting so take good notes for the timed exams. The prof responds quickly and grades immediately so you always know your grade. Do the exta credit the 1st few weeks & notice the deadline is not the last day of class.
Ab Psych was my favorite class at TCC & I learned so much about mental health and selfcare. Only 5 discussions which were main writing assignmnents, weekly cases, quiz and 4 exams with multiple choice and short answer. Costa gives a detakled study guide for each test, so use them since I forgot the first time. Wish course was longer-great class!
Took her for the summer quarter, and she is a great professor! Gives awesome feedback. You will have chapter quizzes due Wednesday, and 2 assignments due Fridays. Makes psychology fun and interesting and replies fast to any questions. 10/10 would recommend!
Very organized teaching style with predictable weekly cases and quizzes with a few discussion boards. 4 exams w/ m/c and very short ans questions that she gives in a Study Gude so you know what's coming. You'll learn about many psych disorders and she really stresses self-care and resources for different issues (suicide hotlines, crisis, housing).
I took DrCosta for 100 and 220 because their classes are organized and she gives fast feedback on assignments. Weekly reading quizzes and "media" activities arnt' hard if you just read & use your notes. Exams are similar to quizzes and they give detailed guides for studying. Very caring prof who goes out of their way so you do well.
I enjoied this class immensely & it went by too fast over the summer. I felt like we could have kept going as there's so much to learn from dr Costa. Took Psycho100 from her b/c shes super organized and easy to follow. She responds quickly to messagss, even on weekends, and is very generous with grading and gives tons of feedback to improve.
I started in another class & switched into Costa's this summer & am so glad I did! She's caring & offers additional support & explanations when you inbox her, and right away! Weekly quiz, video activity and some personal reflections that I enjoyed as they were ore like journal entries where you identified psych terms. Awesomeness class!
I took PamCosta for 100 & loved her class and just finished Abnormal but I'm not a psych major. I liked the way she organized the class since it was online. I always knew my grade and when things were due. She gies a week to submit quizzes & cases which were interesting so I did them early. She always got right back to me & was so kind and helpful.
Dr Costa is a clinical psychologist who shares her experiences and knowledge in a very friendly way that is not intimitating & easy to follow. She cares about mental health & gives tips on self-care and resources for mental health prevention & treatments in addition to being super organized and consistent. Weekly quiz and fun cases to solve. Great!
Very interesting class & I looked forward to doing our case studies each week. The little quiz was easy and we had 4 exams, but they were multiple choice and a few (easy) short answers. She gives a detailed study guide with all of the exam questions. Learned so much about mental disorders. Love it!
We had weekly opennote quizzes, video quizzes and media quizzes that were not too hard, but good review and some were fun. Every other week tests that were reviews from quizzes but not hard. Weekly writings that were personal reflections or applications (PAQs) of the weekly topics. Dr Costa gives fast feedback and always there via inbox.
Took 100 with Dr. Costa before so used to her style and loved her format where we cover 1 ch each week. Interesting case studies but more videos would have been helpful to show real patient experiences. The discussions were the main writing so make sure to proofread or you'll lose points. Great class overall and I learned so much about mental dis.
Costa's teaching style is very organized and easy to follow since all her due dates are on the same day each week. She sends funny little "nudges" to us that also hep remind to do quizzes, cases and about 4 exams that are based on quizzes. I like how her readings are like shes talking to you and the short videos are really helpful and not long
Abnorml Psych is my favorite class this year. As a bio/premed major, I didn't plan on taking it but Costa was recommended & I needed the elective so it worked out. I think anyone going into healthcare needs this class to learn about the mental health disorders that we all have to face, eitehr personally or family. Weekly cases, 10pt quiz and easy t
Dr. Costas teaching style is hands on even tho Ol. She's interactive & keeps in frequent contact so you remember to submit-even gives reminders! Material was so informative and I can't wait to take more classes from her. Great class!
Good stuff!
Best OL class I've ever taken! Costa checks in w us frequently thruout week and gives a lot of resources to help learn the aby psy materials. Weekly open note quiz, case studies (fun) and 5 m/c exms that were based on quizzes. Awesome!
Once I got into the regular groove of the weekly cases and open-book quizzes, I found this class to be very manageable and looked forward to the new readings. Modules opened every Sat. am & you had a week to read/complete stuff. Some of the readings were personally helpful and i shared them. I'd take Dr. Costa again, for sure.
Additional info: Hint on Drcostas classes- make sure you read the syllabus for where she offers some exgtra credit- And theres also an extracredit Canvas module that I did not see in time and you have to submit the EC before the last few weeks, so make sure to scroll down to find it.
This was an enjoyable class & the online setup was easy to follow. Costa gives freq reminders forthe quizzes each week, case studies and mastery quizzes, open notes. You learn about depression, anxiety, schizop, sub abuse and why so much stigma.
Dr Costa has online class set up in an organized way w/weekly modules where you do 1 quiz, &2 case studies after reading the pages and watching a few videos. she wrote her book, so it's like she's talking to you and easy to read. I wish I could take more classes from her & learned so much from this class. Excellent professor!
Enjoyed Dr costa's class- Took both, 100a nd 220 from her and she's a great teacher who cares about students. Her modules are easy to follow and gives very clear directions and expectations. You'll do a little quiz, some case studies, that are fun and then exams biweekly. I wish she taught more classes.
Fun, engaged, informative & easy-to follow. 5/5!
Better than what I expected! At first the reading list seemed way too long, but after a few weeks, I found them enjoyable and could get through them if i paced myself about 40 min/day. Set aside time to read & watch the videos to prep for quizzes and cases. You'll find this class informative and enlightening.
Super organized w same weekly schedule so I just imported the Canvas cal to ical and I always knew when things were due for then whole quarter. 2 case studies and a quiz each week, but all open notes so just take notes on the online book. Dr. Costa is good about staying in touch and sending her weekly "nudges", which is sweet. Great professor!
At first i was hesitant about an online class since I learn better from a person, but Dr. Costa had it set up in an easy to follow way. The prof was always involved by her comments on my work every week and gives little reminders about due dates. Just make sure to read and follow her note guides and the quizzes are easy. I learned a LOT
This was one of my favorite classes. It ws online and had weekly modules where we had an open note quiz, video activity and little writing activity where we applied the key terms to our own lives. This really helped me learn the psych terms and was kinda "cathartic" (psych term). Dr. Costa was very responsive and encouraging.
Took Abnormal Psych after gen psych with Costa because she is a very good teacher who cares about her students. Abn psych was actually easier than psyc 100 because swe focused on just the disorders- One group of disorders a week, 2 cases, a quiz and a few discussions. Wish there were more discussions.
This was my 2nd class w Costa and i love her teaching style. There's reading every week but its so interesting. For 220, we have case studies, little m/c quizzing and a larger quiz every few weeks. If you just read and use her study guide its easy to ge an A. She's reposneive to questions and involved in communicating with you all the time.
This was 2nd time taking psch 100, & a totally different experience. Pam was welcoming & encouraging right from the start and reassured me that we'd "get through this together", and I got an A! There's weekly readings, but if you pace yourself & not cram, its manageable & the quizzes and hw are easy. Just take notes & don't get behind.
Costa is a great teacher. I've taken her twice and appreciate the way she has the class set up. You read, watch videos, then answer 10 point quiz and case studies that are interesting. I did very well in her classes because she lays out things so easily and comprehendible. She's fast to reply and nice.
This was my favorite class at TCC and i really liked how the class was set up into weekly modules. We had a week to finish our quizzes and 5 days for the writing assignments which were personal application questions. Make sure to open Canvas every Saturday so you get the full amount of time. Great feedback and she was very nice & cared about me.
Dr. Costa's class is well-structured and engaging. The readings and videos are informative, and the quizzes and case studies help solidify the material. unstuckstudy ai was a great study tool alongside the course materials. Overall, an excellent class with a responsive and caring professor.
Dr. Costa genuinely cares for her students & loves psych. Most of her classes are online & they are the best organized I've seen in 2 yrs at TCC. She checkedin with us throughout the week & sent reminders, but the calendar for all assignments inthe quarter was also easily availabe on Canvas. READ! She gives note guides, so use them. Awesome class!
I'm taking Dr Costas Abnormal psyc class this quarter after 100 last summer because it was so interesting and easy to follow. Im a biology major but loved learning from Costa as she made everything accessible & interesting. She checks in a lot and wants you to succeed. Weekly quizzes and biweekly larger quizzes which is same format for Abnormal.
Pam is very caring and involved with students, even though it's an online class. YOu can sense her presence in the readings and thru her constant contact with us. She gives helpful feedback on the PAQs, so be prepared to write every week. Quizzes aren't too back since they're weekly. Class is a good overview of psych. Well organized.
Once you get used to the weekly schedule, it's pretty easy to follow. Costa is thorough and explains things well. The course is well organized where you can expect 7 days to complete the weekly quizzes and case studies (easy). Every few weeks, you have a bigger quiz, covering 2 chapters, but they are usually repeats of the smaller, weekly quizzes.
Dr. Costas teaching style is involved, despite the class being online. She gives reminders about upcoming quizzes and quick feedback. Her online book is in her voice and she gives ex cr for responding to embedded questions like a mystery Watch for announcements w ex cred! Weekly quiz & cases are easy if you read. Readings are very interesting.
Dr. C is a psycologist & knows her material so you're getting info from someone who works with mental illness. Very useful info that I used for both my work & personal life. Make sure to use the dsm guides when doing the case studies & avoid guessing. Take notes on readings & watch the videos! Read syllabus for e/c! Very fair and knowledable prof.
I took 100 w her and this class was just as good and had the same online format, free book, and easy to find your way around. Her teaching style just fits my learning style, so its a win-win. I only had one question about a quiz, and she responded in less than 10 min. providing a detailed explanation that made sense. GREAT class!
I had her for Psych 100 and I wish I could have taken her to my next psych class. I loved her! She knows her stuff; she wants you to succeed, and overall, you can tell she loves what she does. Every student should take her class.
Enjoyed the class & felt like it wasn't too much work but enough to learn about disorders and intersectionality. I finished all of my readings on the weekends then reviewed Thurs before the quizzes, spending about 6-8 hrs a week, depending on the ch. It helped to have interesting material, too.
Informative class & easy to follow activities about different mental illnesses, some I didn't know about before. Case studies were interesting & not as hard as I expected- 2 a week covering the disorders of the week and a brief quiz. Costa uses her own online book that's easy to comprehend & is in 1st person so not like a typical text.
Dr. Costas class was challenging, but interesting enough to make the readings enjoyable & I even shared them w my husband. As a nursing major, I enjoyed the bio basis & learning about the different methods psychlogists use to do research. The pace was good & always clear directions & study guides!
My 2nd class w Dr. Costa, who is one of the best teachers at TCC! She holds high expectations, & you have to read her materials that she writes, but you learn a LOT and shes very fair. I enjoyed our cases every week & could have put more work into the class to earn an A but its summer.
one of my favorite classes! Once you get the hang of the weekly due dates, all quizzes are consistent so I always knew what to expect. Dr Costas gives detailed feedback to the PAQs, so read her comments before writing your next one. Loved her videos! Take advantage of the EC module.
I took someone else last time & hated thei onliine format, so I took Dr costa this quarter and had a totally different, easy experience. It was online, but she seemed to be right there virtually and hd constant contact w me. I liked the quizzes and video activities and cases. It seems like a lot but you get used to the work being spread over week.
Professor Costa Was outstanding. She consistently provided me with good feedback and encouragement on assignments that I obviously worked hard on. She also provided me with insight on the career path that I am pursuing which I am grateful for. All in all it was a great course and I'm looking forward to taking another by her next quarter.
