Very clear and on subject. Just write down everything she says and study it and you'll get an A. Don't bother reading (or buying, if you're really brave) the book.
covered a lot of info during lectures, but make sure to write it all down as it will all appear on the test
She is as far left politically as you can get.The class was US History to 1877 but spent alot of time bashing Bush and required the class to go see Fareinheit9/11 and write a review.Avoid her like the plague.
She is the easiest professor I have ever had. She gives a lot of notes but her tests are very general. Don't buy the book because she doesn't follow it and her tests come only from the notes. You have to write long essays, but she grades them very easy
Shes a great professor, knows the material well and is very nice. She grades fairly and gives lot of extra credit opporitunities. Dont buy the book though, just write down everything she says in lecture and you will get an A.
She talks a lot about Christianity, but she is extremely sweet. The class is really easy, but try to participate in class so as not to disappoint her.
I found Pam very open, friendly and easy to get along with.It always a joy to see her coming and her warm smile never failed to brighten up those long winter days.
Not difficult. Go to class and take notes and you will do well. King offers plenty of extra credit. She started doing short answer (about a paragraph) so her tests are better.
She makes history interesting, you won't sleep through her classes!
King is a good teacher. If you go to class and listen you can at least make a "C". If you take notes and study you can an "A".Take her.
easy teacher, keep up with notes. focuses a lot on christianity and struggles of political power. tends to take a skeptic view of religion in politics, so be careful if you're deeply religious.
My dog could pass this class. Don't buy the book. Take notes. Go to class. If you do that, you will get over a 100% in her class.
Very easy. Tests come straight from the notes. Do not have to know dates for anything. Do not buy the book. Great teacher.
EASY CLASS!!! Lectures can get pretty boring, and if you are opinionated a lot about history, she will ALWAYS argue that her point/view is right, but overall EXTREMELY easy class (if you go to class and take notes)...tests are a breeze, by short answer, she wants SHORT answer.
this class sucked and I got a D !!!!!!!!
Very easy class, I got a B with very minimal effort. Go to class and take notes, do not need to read book.
she will make up stuf and stick to her lies.
Prof. King is awesome. The class is easy. The test is easy; just make sure you take notes and go to class always. She makes everything interesting. Great professor. Take the class.. I promise you, you won't regret it.
Very nice lady and easy tests. Gives a lot of extra credit at the end of the semester. Take her if you can.
easy class.take good note.test multiple choice.3 essay question on test about something she went over in class.10pt bonus on each test.there is a history project and the end of the semester worth a letter grade.(if your final grade is a 80 and you do the project, your final grade will be a 90!!!) the project does take time but worth it.
Mrs. King is very thorough and explains things so it's easy to understand. She's also understanding and very helpful. Quizzes come from all lecture and it isn't necessary to buy the book. Make sure to attend class or you WILL fail. And do the 10 points to your average bonus at the end of the semester. Mrs. King rocks!
King is pretty easy. YOU DO NOT NEED THE BOOK for Western Civ II. Everything comes straight from her notes. If you are a good note taker, easy class. Test are mostly multiple choice, with a few short answeres. be sure to go in depth on the S.A. Gives a lot of extra credit.
This is the worst teacher that I have ever encountered. She doesn't present information in a clear concise manner, missed 8 classes, pumps her liberal femininist views into her teaching, and never scales grades
Im sorry but she just cant teach!!!!!!!!!!!
He class is sooo boring. She justs sits in front of the class and talks for an hour. No visuals and you always just want to fall asleep. Only interesting things in the class were the movies. Multiple choice tests with 3 short answer questions that count for 10 points a piece on each test. have to bring a blue book. Again, very uninteresting!
people who swear she can't teach must either A. not go to class, B. wouldn't know a good teacher if they had one; her lecture is exactly whats on the test, her tests are very easy if you go to class and pay attention even a little bit...I hate history and I had a 106 final average...and that was without doing the final bonus paper thing
Ms. King is an awesome teacher! Her notes are exactly what will be on the test. She makes history come alive. If you get the chance, please take her class!
The best prof. you can ask for. All the questions comes from her class tecture.
Merciless!!! This woman is tough. Her tests are barely related to what she lectures. Too inflexible and doesn’t care to learn her students’ names, BUT she knows her stuff and thinks outside the box. If you want to pass do not relate on classroom material only. Do research outside the textbook, lectures, and movies. I'd give her a B.
She was the worst teacher I have had at UAB. She is so mean! I cannot see how anyone could enjoy her class.
Mrs King was a great teacher. you do not need the book!!! come to class and get all your notes. I havent made a A in a class in a while so i i can pass with an A you can too. She also gets 10bonus pts on EVERY test PLUS!!! a 10 pt bonus paper( your choice) added to your average grade. come on, i can't get any easier than that. JUst take really good
Mrs. King is a great teacher. All material comes from class lectures, so take good notes and you'll do great. No textbook needed. I ended up with a 102 average. I enjoyed her class so much, I am taking her 121 sequence this semester.
I really like Pro. King! She has some very interesting side notes and has done a lot of research. You will take a lot of notes so be prepared. It wasn't hard. Just get to know her and her tests and you will know what to listen for and whats really importaint for the test from your notes and the films.
Interesting! Tests are m/c with 2 essay questions and 1 bonus. The bonus is the most random thing from the notes. If you take good notes and highlight the book as she talks, and pay attention to the movies that are shown. I promise an A if you do that. Get her to tell you her road rage story as well.
Professor King is a wonderful teacher. even if you don't like history, you will enjoy her class. likes to watch movies. not a strict grader. it helps to read the book after the lecture. attending class is very important. if you take good notes, you can get an A.
EASY...EASY...EASY...just come to class and take notes she gives 4exams and one assigned book. YOU DONT NEED THE TEXT BOOK.
easy teacher.. a lot of notes but her tests are fairly easy
Dont buy the book, take notes, go to class, and its an EASY A.
Professor King is very thorough when lecturing. All materials on the test are covered during lecture. You can actually get an A without reading the book if you pay attention to her lectures and take good notes!
Great professor. Her interest in Alabama and Birmingham is what really makes this class interesting to me. If you like Alabama, you will like this class. If not, it may not interest you. Tests are mult. choice and short essay. Pretty easy if you go to class and read a little. She will hound you about research paper so start early. Nice, fair lady.
Professor King is very interesting. I never used my textbook, just listened to her lectures and took notes. She even gives a (Very extensive,) but easy extra credit essay to improve your grade by a full letter grade! If you come to class and take notes, you should do extremely well in her class! She says all the time "You know what I mean?" FUNNNY!
She is not bad. The tests are not hard, but you MUST read the assigned book for test two. She is unorganized, however. We talked about an event that happened in 1870 and then we suddenly talked about something from 1867. She picked favorites too, which is ridiculously high school
Her class is very easy. And there is no need to buy a book - you can pass all tests using Wikipedia!! Her grading of papers is one-sided. She focused class discussions on ALABAMA history - this was an AMERICAN history class.
VERY good teacher...We didn't use a textbook, but going to class and taking notes is a MUST!! Test come directly from NOTES!!! Highly Recommended!!!
Horribleee..just sits in front of class on a chair and randomly talks about facts. She will be talking about one thing wander off onto something else, ramble on about that for a minute then go back to what she was originally talking about. She's really confusing, hard to follow teaching; doesn't really go along with the book, tests are confusing.
King is not a bad teacher. Textbook use is not required as long as you take thorough notes. Required a reading from an extremely boring book, but only a few questions on the 2nd test. Tests are 50 questions, go to reviews and you'll do fine.
Do not buy book. Her tests are strictly on lecture. she is super sweet. She says "Aint that right" at least 100x's every lecture. GO TO THE REVIEW sessions befor the test and you will be guarennted to make an A.
Very knowledgeable and interesting and nice
GOOD PROFESSOR, EXPLAINS MATERIAL DEEPLY, AND ENCOURAGE PARTICIPATION
I enjoyed her class and looked forward to it. I found her to be very interesting and very personable. This was an easy class and I would definitely recommend anything she teaches. I wish I could take more classes from her!
Amazing clarity in teaching ability. Offers opportunities for extra credit. [F.Y.I. do NOT talk during one of her classes - she WILL call you out!]
Boring class, but I guess that is what history is about. Must attend class and take notes non stop to make an A on test. Has review sessions which are very helpful. Do not buy textbook, waste of money.
She is kind of funny. She makes a lot of controversial statements, but its clear she has no idea. Kind of boring class, but she does give extra credit opportunities and the tests aren't too hard. If you go to class alone, no studying, you can get a B on the tests. Attendance isn't mandatory, but read the book if you don't plan on going to class.
Dr. King is funny and engaging. She interacts with her students both in and out of class. When she asks a question in class, she is always willing to listen to an answer that may not be exactly what she wants, without making you feel stupid. I truly loved her class and will be trying to take classes with her in the future.
She is such a cute lady. She loves what she teaches and she interacts with the students. She does call on ppl during class. She HATES for people to talk during lecture. You never use the book. Class is mandatory or you fall behind but if you come to class and your not doing well she will definitely do everything to help you! Wonderful Teacher!
Lectures were rambling and unfocused. She frequently allowed one student to dominate class w/tenuously related comments. Not as progressive as she thinks she is. Required blue book purchase per test even though you'll use maybe 2 or 3 pages.
She was very helpful but relied on videos too heavily for some parts of the class that could have been great discussion.
I really loved her! She is precious and very normal. Her class is all lecture, i would take about 3 to 4 pages of notes a day..but her test come from exactly what she says in class! go to all her review sessions and you will be fine!
Dr.King is the easiest instructor to follow. She makes her classes very intriguing and interesting.I am really enjoying her class. The class is still packed with students. You would usually have a few people to drop but its still packed.Oh what a good class.
EASIEST CLASS EVER! JUST GO TO CLASS AND TAKE NOTES. GUAREANTEED A ON TESTS. I BARELY STUDIED AND MADE AN A. DONT BUY THE BOOK. ALSO,SHE ROUNDS UP FINAL GRADE IF YOU HAVE GOOD ATTENDANCE.
Super-easy class, likes telling how bad capitalism is, can be funny, no book needed, write down what she writes on board/go to review sessions and you have an A.
Took her for 120 and 121. Super easy and interesting! Go to class, take notes, and go to her review sessions and you'll have an A.
if you would like a teacher thats caring take Dr King she is an excellent instructor and she knows her history I really enjoyed her class she is the best history teacher at UAB..she does everything possible to make sure her students understand the material
Really great class. We got out of the classroom which is always nice. She knew tons about historic presvation because she worked in that field before. Absolutely brilliant and funny. Enjoyed her lectures and the books required were actually very interesting to read.
This class was totally easy! Test were very easy, attendance is mandatory, but overall if you go to the lectures and review sessions you should make an A on the tests. Definitely take King!
She takes roll so attendance is mandatory. She can be boring when lecturing, but her test are definitely easy! I made a B on every exam without studying for hours at a time. I did not take notes every class, and still did good. May work for others but may not, depends on how well you learn. Take if you have to; definitely an easy grade!
I loved her! Attendance is mandatory, but all of her tests are based on her lectures and notes, so if you go to class the tests are easy! The homework can seem kind of tedious at first, but they get easier as the semester goes on. She grades on whether you state your opinion so the homework is easy too! She's so nice and helpful, a great professor!
Attendance necessary, study sessions a big help to ready yourself for tests. She is clear in what she expects and she makes class interesting.
Mrs. King is an amazing teacher. Her lectures are pretty long but if you listen closely she tells you exactly what's going to be on the test. As long as you review your notes you are guaranteed to make an A. Also, she WILL call you out in class so pay attention.
Her class structure was simple: Show up for the lectures, and pass the tests. She gives great lectures, and if you study good notes, you'll always do well on the tests. Her classes are very cool
She was horrible professor, in her lectures she rambles and doesn't give a clear consensus of what is being talked about. Buying the book is a waste of money, even if you read it none of the info is on the test.
Dr. King is a terrible professor. During lectures, she gives conflicting dates and rambles. She doesn't always lecture in chronological order. She tests on topics that were never discussed in her lectures. The book doesn't help. One of her tests had at least 10 questions on it that were never discussed in class, and I always attended class.
If you want to learn about American history, she is fantastic. Attend study sessions and this will help you pass the tests. Also take notes. She did not ramble, there is so much history to cover in a semester, she tries to cover everything.
Dr. King was my favorite teacher freshman year. She loves her subject and wants the students to understand. The class is easy if you pay attention, I had an A in each class easily. Pay attention and take good notes.
Loved this class. Dr. King starts off the class by saying she isn't going to sugarcoat or whitewash history like it's taught in high school. She's a very clear, immersive lecturer. The exams are multiple choice; show up to class, take notes and you'll get an A. Never once used the textbook, she talks about everything on the test during lecture.
It's a no for me. She isn't my favorite, but she isn't the best. She's not a bad person, but she talks fast and doesn't want to repeat herself. I asked her a question and she literally made me feel like I was wrong for asking the question. After that, I realized I was done with her and that class.
I would highly recommend taking King. She is such an awesome teacher. Her tests COME STRAIGHT from her lectures. If you show up to class, you will most definitely pass. She writes certain key words she wants you to know for the test on the board. She is very nice and very easy to talk to about an issue you may have.
She was ok
Lectures as if she's telling a story, but isn't good if you're a visual learner because there aren't any PowerPoints.
Mrs. King was great, and really knew her stuff! Attendance is mandatory; her exams come straight from her lectures. One day missed could ruin your chances of passing her exam with a B or better.
Assignments were loosely explained & sources given to review were often of questionable relevance to what was asked. Often took as long to find enough relevant information in the sources as it did to do the work itself. This was CONSISTENT. Was a friendly professor, so I hate leaving a negative review, but I can't over-stress this issue. Good luck.
NOTES NOTES NOTES. don't need textbook. lecture from beginning of class to end. 4 exams make up your grade with some extra credit opportunities.
This history class has no power points but Professor King does well in explaining everything. Her class is based on only four tests and a few online assignments. She does require an extra reading book that she asks questions about on the final. She offers a lot of extra credit if you are willing to work for it.
Grading scale is RIDICULOUS: 80-exams 20-quiz, she takes attendance and it has NO affect on your grade.
She just talks in class and doesn't teach. Shes a rambler just talks about something with history doesn't have to do with your test. You have to read the text book. the only grades are exams in the class.
You are expected to be an adult. She isn't going to baby you, but if you come to class, pay attention, and ask questions you will do fine. If you sit in class and don't take notes on lectures or the movie and don't do your reading you will not pass the exams. Most who complain about her classes aren't even putting in a fraction of effort.
I had History and Development of Birmingham with King. It is a 200 level course that I thought I would enjoy taking. We had weekly discussions which were pretty easy but she is so picky with her grading. She will also straight up let you know if she thinks something is bad. You will also have a 10 page paper in addition to a final exam.
(1/2) For the final exam, it was a 10 page paper. I did every instruction addressed such as the paper being 10 pages, got my resources from the UAB archives, cited and provided bibliography, and wrote about a more specific topic like she suggested. However, I was graded a 40; the mean for the class was a 57. It moved my grade from an 85 to a 65.
I took the History and Dev of Birmingham and felt like I learned a great deal and enjoyed the course overall. However, as insightful and helpful as her feedback typically is, she does not have a problem being harsh with her words to the point of being borderline rude/dismissive. She is very responsive though & quick to help if you make the effort.
Since it was online there wasnt much interaction but when there was it was fast and understanding.
