Great class, very interesting. Attend all lectures and labs - you'll do fine. Printable notes on web = great. Nice teacher.
she will bite your head off when you have a question, embarrass you in front of the whole class. no tolerance. not cut out for teaching. very unclear about assignments, although she claims to have repeated herself a million times. obviously if she's still getting questions, students are still looking for answers.
She knows her material, but often bounces back and forth from topic to topic during lecture. This becomes hard to follow. She needs to be a bit more simplified. Ask her a question... Yeah good luck! She makes you feel DUMB as hell. Other than that...Go to all classes, do good in lab, and STUDY for tests and you'll be fine.
This class and her teaching take a bit to get used to, but once you do it's not too hard. Power Point teaching with notes that you can print out make it easier to study. Be prepared to take a lot of field trips including mid Sat. afternoon and during school hours. She is a bit short when you ask a ?, but some ?'s are really stupid!
haha Don't bother trying to ask her a question she won't answer it. And make sure never to go up to her before class and ask her for stuff you may have missed becuase she will bite your head off. Makes you feel stupid and embarasses everyone. She made fun of everyone's pictures on their id cards telling one person that they didn't photograph well.
All of these comments are not really fair. Prof. Lynch is a great teacher and knows her stuff. She can't do any more than she does including putting ALL of her notes on her web for you to access. She isn't mean to students, she just can't tolerate stupidity. Do the work, pay attention to directions and you'll do fine. Studying wouldn't hurt!
DONT TAKE HER. period. you will do horrible regardless of how well you've done in the past. This teacher is the most unclear and unhelpful person. I am a 4.0 student and I received a C. HORRIBLE TEACHER!
Wow.... She is not a nasty teacher at all. She is very understanding and helpful. Just show up and pay attention and do your. It's not a free ride if thats what people think...
WOW this teacher is a real winner. DO NOT TAKER HER. Don’t bother trying to ask her a question she won’t answer it and she will make you feel retorted. She’s not cut out for teaching.
MEANEST B**** ever!!!!! do not take her.. she is really mean.. if you ask her a question she will talk down to you. because she is better then eeryone bc she knows a lot about fish
All right People! Yes she is hard but, she is not that bad. some of the question you people ask her are so stupid because she just secs a go anwser them. that why she talks down to you. Maybe if you hear her.
very nasty. if you ask her a question she will make you look like an idiot. i took marine bio in high school and i loved it. i find it so interesting. but she makes it horrible with her attitude towrds the class. she needs to understand that she is the teacher and part of the reason she is there to answer questions and help her students
This teacher is all right, she is intelligent and tough but she does not answer idiotic questions from students who spent the class in the ozone texting friends.
I think she's a really good teacher. She understands that most of the people taking her class are Liberal Arts majors. She is very clear and precise when she explains things. Her tests can be hard, but if u study you'll pass. She does have a bad attitude sometimes, but I don't think she means to.
I had Pam during her first semester, she was always stressed due to personal issues and took this out on students (but i didn't hold it against her). HARD tests, just memorize the notes and you'll do fine. She puts notes on webpage. She is not very knowledable about some areas of marine bio - she is an invertebrate specialist. I got a 4.0
She is very helpful and understanding. She does have some major mood swings. Her test r hard but she gives u plenty of extra credits. She leaves her notes on the web and its very helpful. If u give her a chance u'll like her and she'll be helpful for you.She didnot know to much about all the areas in marine sci but she was good enough to teach it.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!! This women has a serious attitude problem and is extremely nasty. You ask her a question and she just snaps at you, and looks at you like you are an a**hole. She is not helpful and is very rude... I repeat DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR ...SHE BLOWS!!!!
ok people yes she can be snappy, but saying the class is hard... its not its college of course tests are hard but she makes class interesting she cancels classes and you go on field trips instead, all of her lecture note or online how much easier could she make it for you. Be there, do the work, study real hard and youll do fine just dont ask stupi
No Comments
just dont ask stupid questions that u no she already asked thats when shes snappy.... everyone has there moody moments... her class is interesting and she makes everything very easy and clear to understand i thought she was a good teacher. all of lecture notes are online it makes note taking very simple
The worst part of this class was the iconvenience of the field trips<all on saturdays>.U can either go or write a 5 pg.paper. She cancels class a lot, but there are 4 or 5 projects in return for it.Im 1 of those ppl who usually bombs the tests & passes everything else, but even if u go on the trips & do the projects,ur not guaranteed a passing grade
She is a REALLY smart woman i think thats why she has an attitude when people ask "dumb" questions. She will snap depending on the situation but dont be afraid to ask questions-the whole class laughs because they knw she is hard on people-if you try and show an interest she is really cool-i really enjoyed the class and it was fun.just makesureustdy
A really smart woman, with a fun personality; There are many field trips which keep the class more interesting. Show up, and take her seriously. Study, the material isn't bad! You can get a good grade.
She is not the nicest professor, but she good at what she does. I get B+ in her class and I failed the first test and get 80s with the rest of them. Failed all of her lab reports and still get a B+. She has her note online for you. I would take her 100 time more.
I took both MBio and Bio with her. She teaches well and has a vast knowledge of both classes. She grades fairly just make sure you study the online notes she goes over in class. If you do that you will get an A. Theres ok field trips but they are better if you have a friend in the class. Overall its a good class to take for a A. Shes kinda hot too.
very very smart woman. pay attention to what she says and you wont have a problem with her attitude. all her notes are online which make it super easy to study. tests come from notes. if you actually try you will do great. plus she pulled some strings and got me a sweet summer job.
shes a great proffesor. very intelligent. if you ask stupid questions, she'll make you feel stupid. just pay attention and the class is a breeze. i cant wait to take her oceanography class.
She definately knows what shes talking about, but she is the most unapproachable prof i've ever had. if you have a problem or a question, she prides herself on making you look stupid. If you go to class and pay attention, you should do fine. But if a problem comes up, dont expect her to be understanding. she doest care. she thinks a C is a great gr
This professor definately has attitude, if she is having a bad day-she will take it out on you. She thinks she is teaching Harvard students with the way you need to memorize everything and the way you get treated if you ask a "stupid" question. No teacher should bug out if you ask a question-they should clarify. I wouldn't recommend her.
she was ok she did have her mood swings but it was fine I failed all the test but i did all the labs and went 2 all the field trips and I got a B
I think that she is a very fair professor. SHe knows her stuff and she does everything in her power to teach you all she can in one class. I think she's great.
Nasty woman, she is not made to teach courses for non-science majors. She grades like a nightmare, and scolds you for asking for help. When not talking about course material she can be nice. But don't take her if you don't like being put down and yelled at. You'll actually dread going to this class.
No question should ever be a stupid question. Ya know you are doing something wrong when your students constantly say " geez what a btch". SHe gets frustrated way too easily. And doesnt seem to like her job. If I were a teacher I would be THRILLED if a student asked a question, it shows they are interested.
One of the best I have ever had. She is smart, fun and has a wonderful heart and willing to help you if you just ask. Better to save questions for the end after she has explained everything. Usually she would answer someones question if they just listened to the whole lecture. Take her if you want to have fun, and enjoy the world in a diff view.
I really like her. She can have an attitude sometimes but thats just her. She EXTENSIVELY explains everything. There is no way you won't understand. If you show you care, she will meet you 1/2 way. Go to office hours, go over your tests with her and ask questions. She may get frustrated a little easily, but she is quick to help.
hottie
She is nice but sometimes can be in a bad mood. I like the hands on experiance from the field trips. The notes and textbook are the most important thing to review. The tests are a little hard. She reviews before tests. The labs is mandatory to attend the lecture isn't. I made sure I was at every lecture because the information was important.
One of my favorite professors at Suffolk. She knows her stuff, and makes it really interesting. Challenging, but in a good way. Loved her class.
worst teacher i've ever had...acts like she cares about the students but only cares about the ones that appear to do well in the class. She is not helpful and expects you to know about the subject prior to taking the class, she kind of makes you feel ignorant. She has an attitude problem. Avoide having her as a teacher.
NASTY. Acts like she's Gods gift to science. She's not. If you take her class you'll be scared to ask questions...so you won't and you'll be lost.
HORRIBLE. nothing annoyed me more than traveling from side of the island to the other for this lady's class. Field trips that arent during the class time shouldnt be held against students especially if they have something called..umm... a job. Never again and worse thing... couldnt sell back the book.
Disregard all the negative comments,She's the best prof. at Suffolk. End of story. One of the smartest/nicest prof. I've ever had. The comments below are probably from students who don't want to actually earn their grades and do some work. Don't pass up taking her class, it's fun and it's the one class where you will actually learn something.
Honestly.....i just took her this past semester and i just have to say that she isnt a bad professor at all, it is recomended not to miss a lecture cause every lecture is important, she can be moody at times. If u participate is the lecture as she is eplaining it she will love you more, asking a quick question here and there,oh she loves projects!!
She is a very good professor who really loves the subject she teaches. She may be in a bad mood some times but you should know she is working on getting her PhD, its hard work and very stressful. Her classes are not hard, I look at my work from her class and work I did at Stony Brook after Suffolk and I am embarrassed I even handed that work in.
She was extremely nice. Her notes were very long and in depth but in the long run they really help when it comes time to study. There was never any homework and we only had one project, and although we had 2 field trips out of the way, they were both really enjoyable. Overall I really loved taking her class. highly recommend.
Awesome professor....
I withdrew from Prof Lynch's course. I am an A student...I have a 4.0 for 3 semesters and if I continued in her course it would have def been ruined. She made everything more difficult and made me feel stupid when I asked questions. Her tests were hard because she didn't review enough she kind of just throws you to the wolves with that.
she was a great and fair teacher. you have to do all the work to get a good grade. lab attendence in manditory but lecture atendence is not. she excepts late work and grades fair. overall a good and interesting professor.
good and fair
Prof. Lynch gives excellent, clear lectures. She makes it easy to understand and provides you with the slides that she uses for the class, so it's really easy to study. However, she's horrible with answering questions, and makes the students feel stupid if they ask. But overall, I'd say the class is worth taking simply for her excellent lectures.
Take good notes during lecture and you'll pass! Her slides are awesome and she was extremely fair. Extra credit is available and she definitely knows her stuff! As an accounting major I thought I'd hate this class but it turned out to be fun and I learned something as well!
Great class, good teacher. Very fun and interesting. She requires the text book but it's only for certain readings you can get from a friend. I would defiantly recommend this class, you can tell she cares a lot about the subject.
She knows the subject well
I took 3 classes with her. If you need help just ask. You have to go to lab and if you show up to lecture you should do fine. All her notes are PowerPoint slides that are online. She has reviews before every test and offers extra credit. Overall she is a great person and take her classes.
She belittles you when asking a question. She zooms through the material and never leaves time to write things down which I find not helpful. The whole point of coming to class is to learn about it, not to have an idea of what it is I will be teaching myself later. Her degrading remarks of us as a class highly inappropriate.
Despite reading her bad reviews, I took her and I LOVED her class. She was a wonderful teacher for Marine Bio. She understands it isn't for science majors, so she makes it simple. People say she's fast, and I agree, but the slides are online so. Only 3 exams, no need to buy a lab book. She is funny at times, too!
I took her despite the bad reviews also, she's not that bad according to her reviews. The class is hard, marine biology, but she gives you what you need. Everything is online. Just a lot of material.
Took her despite bad reviews and I really enjoyed her class! There is a lot of information to remember so I suggest studying. Prof. Lynch is a good teachers and breaks down material as best as she can because she understands it's a non science major course. Textbook isn't required but I bought as an extra study tool because I'm bad at science lol
She's the best! Lab is a must!!! One easy taxonomy project and one easy if you study Lab Practical. Lecture attendance isn't a must but if you miss she has her ppt's on her website. 4 easy multiple choice tests. best class ever.
She is incredibly knowledgeable and tests based on what she teaches. Her experiences in the field provide for interesting stories. As a non-science major, I felt as if this class gave me exposure to scientific principles and knowledge while bearing minimal stress to my workload. The field trips are fun, and the project is doable. Would recommend!
Pam Lynch is a great Prof. I had her in Oceanography and i hope I am taking her in Marine Bio! Try to get her as your Lab instructor also! SHe will always try and help you in her office hours.
She will have you drive all over the island for these field trips that are not necessary. Also, make sure you're good with directions for these trips because if you get lost and you're only like 5 minutes late, she'll take points off. I took her class twice and she's unprofessional. She told my ENTIRE class that it was my 2nd time taking her class
Pamela Lynch is an amazing professor. She is very straight forward on the first day of class on what she expects from you for the rest of the semester. Her classes can be a little hard and require a lot of studying outside of class but she is a very fair grader and she explains the concepts in lecture very well. Would recommend!
As a professor she's generous-ish with extra credit, for teaching however she trash. Outright nasty and asking questions is suicide unless you like being belittled in front of the class. Read the power points she puts up online before class.
She is a great prof! I took her for MAR 111 and now I have her again and I adore her. If you're really interested in this subject then you'll enjoy this class. If you don't know much about sustainability and ecology, then she will make you care. If you're struggling you can just reach out to her, and everything is planned on the syllabus.
Asking a question is really helpful if you want to be embarrassed in front of the entire class. 9 times out of 10 shell say, look at my web page or read your emails instead of providing an answer.
Professor Lynch is a great professor! She is so passionate about everything she teaches and it shows. She gives credit where it is deserved and she gives great feedback. I really enjoyed her marine ecology class. Like any science class, it is not an easy A but on exams she tries to give as much credit as she can. Would recommend!
Attendance is not mandatory- but you will need to show up in order to stay on track. Tests are pretty difficult so getting an easy A in Lab will help your grade a ton. Make friends and exchange numbers with your lab partners it will go a long way. Field trip to Smithpoint Beach. Labs are the homeworks, couple quizzes inside lab. She is a nice perso
lynch's lectures are very boring... then again what lectures arent. lectures are long and boring. 3 tests that the class average was around a 60 on. notes for lecture are offered online... saw more people playing fortnite on their Macs then taking notes. labs are mandatory. lots of fextra credit options offered to boost grade. also has feild trips
Graded by three tests which aren't hard but a combination of getting used to her format and the low interest in some of her lectures is a recipe for disaster. There are field trips which are mandatory, but nice. The lab portion isn't difficult but you can't miss one class. She offer's many extra credit options and eliminates bad questions on tests.
Shes is really the best, so passionate about the class!!
The tests are hard but as long as you pay attention in lecture you should do fine. You have to show up to all labs or you wont pass and you have to have the lab book. Would take again. Super caring and gives a lot of extra credit opportunities.
I took this class despite all her negative reviews and didn't regret it. She really isn't half bad. Listen to her lectures study the power-points and show up to labs you will do great. She is clear about what she expects. You can tell she is passionate about teaching. She also gives a lot of extra credit and is a fair grader. I really enjoyed class
I was in the second semester of her new Environmental Sustainability class, and it was truly the best class I've ever taken. Don't worry about your grade. She cares if you get something out of it over if you can write an essay correctly. I highly suggest that if anyone is into Sustainability and wants a cool, close group of people who care, enroll
She is the first teacher I've had that genuinely cares about what she teaches. Take her Environmental Sustainability class (ENV 295) in the spring semesters. Such a cool class, and actually important
When I took Professor lynch I found her to be a tough grader and extremely strict with her dead lines. She also gives A LOT of work so if you're working a full time job, this might not be the best class to take. I also found that a lot of the things we learned in class were not on the exams.
Do not take this Prof. she is rude to students, and doesnt answer questions when you email her . She will give u an attitude if you ask her anything because she believes that you are supposed to know all the material and have no questions
Idk if its because of online schooling only, but I dont find her very helpful and welcoming when it comes to homeworks and tests and questions . Ive seen her get mad when answering questions a few times, she expects you to know everything and not have questions. Theres a lot of hw & readings to do so be prepared. Study guides dont help at all
Shes rude when it comes to questions. Shes snappy when you dont know an answer or need help with something. Theres lot of labs & hws plus readings. Tests are hard , the material we learn doesnt help much with the tests and study guides are not even guides theyre just words and no definitions. Wouldnt take this class or teacher again
I enjoy learning about the ocean. I find the class very interesting, however this teacher makes it miserable. She seems to have a jealousy issue with students using pearson over her powerpoints and lectures she feels incompetent. She purposely makes the tests super difficult and seems to enjoy knowing that the class average is a ( C) .
Contrary to some other comments, I actually believe she is a great teacher. This is a lab class so of course there will be labs. The material is heavy but it will help you do good. The labs were not too hard. Her tests were easy if you study. She gives you section outlines that if you fill in you will be fine. A lot of reading but interesting.
professor Lynch is a very tough grader and can be incredibly rude. She's nice sometimes but if you really need help she gives you an attitude. she was super tough on the assignments and you have to go really into detail if you want to get a good grade on any of the assignments. the good thing is if you do bad on an assignment she lets you redo it.
horrible... very boring lectures. Has an issue with students asking questions. Would not recommend.
Is very passionate about the subjects
Prof. Lynch is a great option if you are actually interested in the course work. I have taken her two semesters in a row and am never disappointed. Some work is to be expected but the material learned is rewarding.
Teacher has little to no patience. Went to extra help was even more lost than I already was and I could not stand the anxiety and stress her and that class gave me. Was not helpful in any way what so ever. Would NOT recommend.
despite the negative comments, i genuinely had no issue with her. i regret not giving her a chance at first, but if you're struggling, she'll really help you. if you speak to her in person, you get a better perspective of her. she cares for her students and she wants to help those who are struggling. i regret not caring for the course at first.
she lowkey sucks and is rude dont take her class not at all helpful
Wouldn't take Prof again
0/10 would recommend taking this class
don't do it.
Personally I enjoyed the class and found the info interesting. However, it was sooooooo intense and way too much for an intro class. Get ahead because the information builds on itself and gets intense. Study EVERYTHING on your notes for tests. She tries to be organized and make it easy but honestly makes it even more difficult than it needs to be.
She is very clear about grading and offers lots of extra credit. The tests count a lot so you HAVE to study if you want an A. I took Honors Oceanography, it was a hybrid class so the one time a week we met was the lab, the lectures were posted videos. Not short videos but my "studying" was watching those over and over and I got A's. I liked her!
I'm not sure why Professor Lynch has such a low score on here. She had little to no homework and her tests were multiple choice with maybe one or two short answer questions, she would give a few extra questions that were freebies (think "what class are you taking" kind of questions). She gave plenty of extra credit and was generally a good teacher.
