She is fantastic. The best professor in the biology department, in my opinion. Powerpoints are crystal clear and she puts them online before class. Extremely intelligent and helpful; she's very easy to talk to and is legitimately concerned about her students understanding the material. Pretty and impressive professor.
Excellent and down to earth professor....challenging but straightforward. She is also one of the easiest professors to talk to or approach outside or inside of class.
Take Dr. O if you can--she's a great professor. The material can be tough at times, but she's very helpful outside of class. She's young, so she can relate to her students a bit better than other professors can. Homework is required, but it's really helpful and she assigns only four problems a night on average. Absolutely love her.
Dr. O expects a lot from her students but she is a very nice professor. She is always willing to help and she is genuinely concerned about the well-being of her students. Exams are very hard, she doesn't drop exams or curve and she very strict on sticking to the syllabus but grades are split between HW, disease group paper, iClicker and exam grad
Prof O is very nice, and very helpful. Her number one priority is helping her students pass her class with a good understanding of the subject. she gives 25% of your grade just from doing homework and attending class n doing iclicker questions. Doesnt curve but she will drop questions that ppl got wrong, which can boost u. And shes HOT
She is a very nice professor BUT her tests are just ridiculous. I have managed to get by all my hard science classes, orgo/cell bio etc. with a B+ or higher in every single one. But not this class. Organic Chemistry is easier. The tests are composed of multiple choice and free respone. She makes the free response questions so hard and confusing.AVOID
I'd have to disagree with the person below me. Her tests can be difficult (especially the third exam) but they are fair. Everything on the exams is covered in class and she has said to not sweat the small stuff. That being said, TAKE ADVANTAGE OF HER OFFICE HOURS. She is wonderfully helpful if you don't understand the material. TAKE HER.
The negative reviews below are the slacker Loyola students who try to get through classes without ever doing an ounce of work outside of lecture. Lectures are straightforward, Dr. O is a very fair grader: 4 exams (100pts each), 25pts participation/hw, 25pts genetic disease paper. She's very approachable, very cute. Consistent studying is a must.
There are many science professors at Loyola who don't give iclicker questions or credit for homework problems. You should feel lucky to have a professor like Dr. O because she gives her students as many opportunities to succeed as possible. As others have stated: she is very helpful, personable and kind; as well as funny and adorable.
She is the best Genetics professor @ Loyola. Yes, this class requires a lot of work but at least the teacher makes a huge effort to explain everything properly. Try to think of practical implications of the topics discussed in class. That's the key for answering the essay part of her tests.
She is great at teaching the cell lab. Weekly quizzes that can be tedious. Her exams are very fair if you study the material. Labs usually take the whole time, so be prepared. They are usually fairly interesting and she does a great job helping you understand. She is so adorable and hot too!!!
Was a sweet heart! She was incredibly helpful and available when she could be. She wants her students to do well, but getting an A in her class is nearly impossible! I studied ridiculously for her class and wound up with a B. Her tests are beyond tricky and multiple choice is phrased really funny. Harder than orgo, so be cautious when taking her
I think Dr O is the best professor.she can present the hardest material in a simple way. I personally think students can do well on her tests if they understand the materials instead of only memorizing.she uses every tool to make her students understand the concept before they leave the class. she is always available to answer questions...take her
Her tests were too confusing, and the only test that related to her slides was the final. Would not recommend.
Dr. Osenkowski is a great teacher! The exams really aren't as bad as these comments make them seem. You do have to understand the material, but as a biology major or minor you should be able to grasp these concepts. A few of my classmates told me they studied solely from her power points. I used the textbook and power points. An A is possible.
Dr. O is really good at explaining things. However, her exams tend to be worded awkwardly and are sometimes confusing. She HATES cheaters and makes that clear. Also, she is AWESOME at explaining EVERYTHING. as in, even the basic stuff....which tends to get REALLY boring at some points.
Dr. O is a great professor who really knows her stuff. Although, if you want to save your GPA I probably wouldn't recommend. Does not give full credit for barely anything, and exams are extremely tough.
Prof O is awesome, super cool person. I will take her again for any class. However, she makes you work for every point. Her quizzes, assignments aren't too hard but her final is a tough one.
She's a great professor, she explains things in a simple manner but her tests are difficult. you get participation points through iclicker and a few worksheets during discussion. Thankfully she curves
DO NOT take this course. 4 exams (final is just another exam)- only the 2nd 1 is easy, others are very difficult. Doesnt curve exams but will offer hard 10- point EC quiz if most of the class fails. Refuses to answer clarification qs during exams. Attendance/participation is part of grade. Most clicker qs are at beginning of class so dont be late.
Prof O is very clear in her lectures. Tests are a bit tricky, but if you are going to med school, you should get used to that caliber of tests. I really wish she would give extra credit or late credit on mastering though, sometimes wasn't able to finish hw on time because of internet issues. Wish I could get points awarded for my late effort.

She is my favorite professor thus far. She is NOT easy, but if you're planning on med school.... you should be able to take it. Makes you critically think rather than memorize. Very approachable and very clear in explanations
This class was a lot harder than I expected. Dr.O is really good at explaining everything so as long as you pay attention and study for the exams you should do well. You have to do a lot of group lab reports which are annoying but the class is doable.
Test are impossible and meant to trick you, offers the hardest extra credit and no curve. AVOID! Orgo was easier than this class which says a lot.
Hardest class I have ever taken all thanks to Dr. O. Her exams are impossible.
Dr. Osenkowski is incredibly smart and fair but when it comes to exams the language is completely different from the lectures and it's tough to decipher that and still get the right answer. There was mastering genetics and clickers in class so participation is highly recommended.
Really good lecturer but poor exam writer and grader. If you like your GPA, take someone else. I had an A for most of the semester and she cut it down to a B- after the final with her erratic grading :(
Dr. O presents her lecture in a way that sound very clear to students. Unfortunately, that will not help you pass an exam because her exams as very tricky, tough and many times unclear. Even tough I put a lot of effort into this class, sadly I am barely passing. :((
She is very sweet and willing to help. My class had half the people do well and half fail. As a result, she gave extra credit out the wazoo. The tests aren't a breeze. Attendance and participation can give even more extra credit though. Pretty easy A for a bio major class.
Dr. Osenkowski is great! Four tests including the final. Nothing is cumulative. There is mastering genetics for every chapter. Lectures can be a bit long but as long as you record them you are good to go. She gives extra credit towards the end of the semester. She doesn't have regular office hours but always happy to schedule one with you.
The lectures feel clear and the material makes sense, but the exam feels like it's in another professor's language. She has a Ph.D from Harvard in the field and is extremely knowledgable, especially with Cancer and Alzheimer's related materials. However, she expects her students to work at her pace and level and at times this gets very confusing.
She is one of the sweetest professor you will ever have. Lectures material seem clear once you are finished with them but her exams are quite tricky. She offers extra credit just about after every exam. 4 non-cumulative exams and mastering. Not to hard just got to stay frosty for the exams. No clear office hours, have to set up an appoitment
Dr. Osenkowski is a very nice lady and I loved her as a person. But do not take her if you want to get an A. The questions that she comes up with for lab quizzes and practicals are extremely hard and way more difficult than other professors. Her grading on lab reports is very harsh, expecting you to be experts. I personally wouldn't take her again.
Is very knowledgeable and helpful. She helps her students and connects well with them. The only thing is that she's possibly one of the toughest graders on campus. Her practicals are EXTREMELY difficult, and you need to know all the material down to the punctuation to pass. Assigns long, annoying group lab reports (yes, multiple reports).
I've been really satisfied with Models of Human Disease so far. One exam and two presentations make up your grade. Only take the class is you're comfortable giving an hour long presentation on your own in front of the class. Otherwise, this is one of the better 300-level bio classes at Loyola. I'd recommend Dr. O to anyone.
1 Exam+1 solo pres+1 group pres+participation/attendance. Attendance and participation take 16.7% of grade, so if u're not a morning person who can go to 8 a.m. class on time, don't choose it. Learn a lot about scientific public speaking. Classmates grade each other. There's only a few things that u'll be graded on, so u really need to put efforts.
overall a fantastic teacher. she's a picky grader but super willing to help and super kind. this course teaches you various lab techniques, how to write lab reports and papers, and how to think critically. definitely recommend this course with Dr. O!
This lab used to be more difficult, but the work has been cut down. Around 10 labs, 5 quizzes, 2 exams, 1 group lab report, and 1 group presentation. Dr. O is very picky when it comes to grading, but she gives lots of feedback. If you put in the work, you will do well in this course. Also, Dr. O is super sweet and willing to help if you ask her.
This online genetics class is amazing. I suggest you take her online summer class or in person. She is a super fair grader and makes the class understandable. All the lectures are recorded and put online to listen to. Mastering genetcis homework and 4 exams online. You have to keep up with material and it is a lot and at a fast pace, be ready.
Dr. Osenkowski is very approachable and a good professor. She grades extremely tough on post lab assignments and labs. She prepares you for tougher classes, however I would not take her again because of the unnecessarily harsh grading.
Makes the labs super clear so you understand the process of what you're doing and can answer postlabs about them. As other people have said, she's sort of a picky grader but not bad and you definitely can still get good grades. Not much studying or out-of-class work. Incredibly sweet and very approachable. Take her for cell bio lab!
I came to rate my professor last semester to find out about her. Looking at the reviews, I immediately put her into my cart. But be warned this class is difficult. I felt strong after watching her lecture videos, however, when I got to the test many of her questions were trick questions. She expects you to be able to assume certain things.
While she seems pretty knowledgeable in her field, her lectures give too much information than what is actually important. The tests cover things that are never covered in class. She has taught this class online numerous times, so that's not the problem. She is a nice person but it's not easy to get a good grade even if you know the material.
She is very accessible this woman was answering my emails while she was in the hospital the day after she gave birth!! Only 1 exam, it asked very detailed questions. The rest is all presentations, I always struggled with fitting them in the allotted time and she was sometimes picky about grading. Online version was weird but a good class overall.
She does not teach clearly at all. The class labs do not go by schedule and does not respond to concerns about material or scheduling. The exams do not cover what is taught in class. She also does not call students by their names but nicknames made by her. Very slow grader and labs are always returned Late or lost completely.
Looking at all the positive reviews I too took this class. Its definitely not easy and the professor may act kind but is not helpful in actually explaining anything. Exams are tough and based on case studies not having to do with class. Very tough and instruction could be way better- be warned.
Okay professor, but class was always confusing with a lack of direction and clarity. Asking for help is not useful because its assumed youre stupid or dont know the work. On top of this the exams and quizzes have nothing to do with whats covered in class. Very tough class, theres definitely better options for this course- my two cents.
Class is difficult subject wise. Exams and quizzes are very confusing. Theres a lot of weird assumptions made in this class about you and exams are just one. Asking for help gives no further information, its just the prompt stated again. As previous people say. Run- glad I had made it through years ago!
This lab is a pain in the butt. However, Dr. O makes it reasonable. Every. Point. Counts. All those partial points you miss add up, so ask if you are unsure about stuff. Dr. O is very nice and she does try to make sure you can earn all that is possible. She is very clear, very kind, just has high expectations of all her students. She is great tho!
This lab is as tough as labs get. Every point does matter so dont blame the professor when things get tough. Dr. O is amazing and very kind, shes a college prof. Not your elementary teacher. Dont come complaining about bias and get defensive when things arent accounted for. Its the learning that matters the points.
Genetics is hard, and Dr. Osenkowski has clear expectations. She's a great lecturer and really runs a great class. Tests can be pretty tough. It's not that she's out to get you or anything, but she pushes your knowledge to be really examined by applying everything. It takes a bit to adjust to, but you will know your stuff when you're done.
By far the worst class I've taken at Loyola. The grade is about 90% based on tests, which are extremely hard. The average grade for all 4 exams was 70% OR LESS. When that many students do consistently that poorly, there's clearly a problem with the instructor. The homework did not prepare students for exam questions either.
I am enjoying genetics very much so far. Exams are tough but fair and are based directly off of material covered in class. Grades are based on 3 exams, homework and a group presentation. Definitely recommend Dr O. She is a great lecturer and wants her students to succeed in her course.
This is the hardest class Ive taken this semester and I also have Otho to deal with. The way this course taught is nothing less than confusing and frustrating. If you have no other option and still have to take this prof. Then study study study! Go over all the practice problems and notes and hire a TUTOR! Its worth your gpa!
Not the sweetest professor. Her explanations are not clear and she assumes your being lazy when you ask for help. Just TERRIBLE! The exams are worded weird and quizzes are not relatable to the exams in difficulty. Theres a curve on the exams but dont rely on them.
The professor herself is very sweet and does her best to make lab work. But I'm not gonna lie, the lab is very challenging. Theres barely enough time and you need to set out time for homework and exams. Not easy like you would expect a one credit lab but doable for sure! Just make sure you set out a bit more time.
The topic itself is designed to be a challenge but man was I thrown off. You have to read all the power points and take good notes and even then for me it was hard to get above a B- on the exams. The professor is very sweet and open to help but it's just that the exams and lessons are not on par with each other.
She is really sweet, good at explaining things, and will give points back on tests. It's just too much work for a one-credit class. Hardest lab I've taken so far that just because other labs are easy. She genuinely wants you to learn and you definitely do it was just a shock at first how much I needed to put in.
Very sweet professor. Her teaching is very detailed but effective. Her tests are very difficult and often the averages are in the 70s or lower. However, she does curve a lot and gives back points if too many people do poorly. Homework is done at your own pace and can also be tricky. Added a group project which was nice because of the extra points.
Very Nice, wants to help you. Genetics is hard in general, take advantage of what Mastering Genetics has to offer (practice test, end of chapter questions, study area) it will really help. 3 exams and no final, there is a group project instead. Mastering due every exam. DOES CURVE, which is very nice. Lecture heavy class.
This professor is an amazing choice when taking genetics; the class is already hard regardless of the professor. She curves your exam grades after going through and recognizing hard questions. Offers ample extra credit opportunities, and genuinely cares for your success. She wants you to learn and to earn a B or an A, which is above and beyond!
Very sweet woman but she expects a lot out of a 1 credit course. There is pre-class work and post-lab work done in groups which can be time-consuming and difficult. Exams and Quizzes are very specific and usually write in answers. Way too much work for a 1 credit lab class, avoid if possible.
if you're taking this class then you're a stem major so if you think her class has a lot of work, you need to switch career paths. dr. o is clear and organized and her expectations are extremely fair. super easy if you follow the directions and do the work. lots of students do nothing during class and expect a good grade which isn't fair. take her
TAKE HER! I absolutely love her, she's super approachable and makes things easy to understand. I think everyone should take her if possible, she cares about your success in her course and retaining the information long term.
does not convey material clearly. asks to make a lot of assumptions with the material. a lot of people don't do well and that speaks for itself. changes need to be made in the course and instructor. if you have to take try to change or get help.
easier classes available, class is out of 400 points making it extremely test heavy, don't take it, find a class with homework as a bigger portion of the grade. easier classes available, tests are all extremely tricky
1st half of the semester was on 4 diseases followed by an exam (v specific, but was curved). 2nd half focused on reading/presenting on papers. This was a valuable class to improve skills in critically understanding scientific articles and presenting them well. Dr. O was very accessible and gave helpful feedback. Def take if considering grad school.
The labs we did were really interesting, but she made the quizzes and exams so hard for no reason with a lot of fill in the blank. You had to remember minute details from every lab handout, which I thought was not advancing my learning and just made the class stressful. Lectures were confusing and didn't tell us anything about data analysis.
She is very nice and ready to answer all the questions you have. Sometimes her lectures make 0 sense tho and I had to ask so many questions to actually understand. She responds to emails so quick which is amazing when you have concerns. She grades harsh ngl and her exams were hard. Post labs are all group work which sucks bc my group was awful.
1st half of sem is asynch lectures on 4 diseases with online midterm; definitely keep up, do not rush through lectures, and take detailed notes to prepare for exam. 2nd half involved primary article assignments (questions/panopto video); love Dr. O!
Really nice, approachable professor, good at answering questions- but difficult to get good grades. Her lectures are interesting and clear, but her tests were difficult as there were incredibly specific and sometimes included questions that were not explained in her lectures. Essentially, it was hard to find a good study method for this class.
Shes really knowledgeable and organized. Super friendly too. Exams are straightforward but they focus a lot on understanding rather than memorization. She does curve exams by 5 points (10% boost on exam score) so that helps a lot. Grades comprise of 2 exams, in class notes, prelabs, 6 quizzes (1 drop), and group postlabs.
Her test was hard, however, there were many ways to boost your grade. The class was based on one exam midway through the semester, then the rest of the semester was just presentations and knowing how to read specific articles in that week's topic. Honestly, it was a fun class as I enjoyed making the presentations because I found it interesting!!!
Pam is an absolute sweetheart! Her class is made up of 8 quizzes, 2 exams, and post/prelab assignments. She can be a bit picky when it comes to the post lab reports but if you go to her office hours, she will walk you through the question to the answer. She also does give a curve to her exams.
Dr. O is incredibly brilliant. She genuinely cares about your understanding of the material. If you don't understand something, advocate for yourself. If you are pre-med, I would recommend taking her class. She taught genetics at the medical school at U Michigan. Her exams reflect heavy of the material you'll see in a med school genetics class.
Dr. Osenkowsi is the nicest professor ever. She knew my name and was always eager to hear about my day, or breaks, or weekend. However, her exams in a CELL BIO LAB course were so incredibly hard. She graded so hard for a lab course and I ended up with a B- even though I studied so hard. Her exams are so obscure and random. I wouldn't take again.
She was great for a lab instructor, her assignments and grade scale were clearly stated. The grade was based off of quizzes, pre labs, post labs and lab work. I enjoyed her class even though it was in the morning. Her tests were difficult and I had the same grade on both tests. She wants specifics when answering her quiz and test questions.
She's literally the sweetest professor I've ever had. She just wants everyone to do well and is very approachable! She gives extra credit after every exam and we have a group project instead of a final. Her exams were lowkey hard asf but held in class reviews the class before the exam and it was SO helpful. DEF TAKE HER!!!!!
This is a very hard lab class. Her questions are super unpredictable and I had to literally study every single thing from Post lab to pre lab to quizzes to everything to be able to get an A in this class, I would suggest taking a different lab course that's easier to get an A than Cell Bio if its not required.
1 exam worth 1/3 of grade, then alternating biweekly Panopto presentations and answering primary scientific article questions. Designed the class as a grad level class. Content was difficult but interesting. Dr. O was always available via email to assist or just chat. She provided helpful feedback for every assignment. Extra credit for course eval
Terrible experience, prof doesn't answer questions and says to pay attention more only, doesn't answer emails and looses lab exams. Lab is hard to finish on time and instruction is just a mess. Exam q's are unrelated to lab. Don't take if pre-med will ruin your future not to mention gpa!!
Took her for J-term, she was so sweet and caring and really just wants you to do well in the course. Graded by a few things, homework and exams, always gives a curve, EC too. Overall great would recommend.
I took Dr.O for J-term and I can honestly say it was a great class. She cares about her students and genuinely wants you to do well. A lot of info but if majority of the class got a question wrong on an exam (can be multiple) she gives points back. Consider taking her for J-term and this content does appear on the MCAT so it definetly prepared me!
The exams were very difficult but she always gave humongous curves if the class didn't do well. Her lectures were very interesting and she explains every concept very well just make sure u don't procrastinate the homework. Overall amazing professor that wants you to succeed. One of my favorite professors at Loyola!
She was a wonderful professor and had very informative lectures. She is very sweet and caring, and really wants you to succeed. The exams were very difficult, but she is always willing to help you understand the material with review sections and office hours. She also gives extremely big curves! She has given us a total of 40 points of extra credit
Very nice and kind professor, total of 40pts ec with a total of 400 points in the course. I often recorded lectures and that helped me do well on the last exam. Take her!
I loved Dr. O! She always came up to me and asked me about my weekend, she's so nice. She is genuinely interested in her student's lives. Her exams really nit pick the pre and post lab documents, so for studying, go through and try to pick out the details and how they fit into the bigger picture. That really helped me with the exams.
easy elective. First third of the course is lecture and then a test that is 33% then rest of the class is individual 40 min presentation 33%, 5 min group presentation 16%, participation 16%. No homework; you basically just come to class to listen to other students do their presentation and wait till its your turn. Curved the exam
dr. o is lovely! she is very understanding and the class itself is not too demanding as long as you stay on top of coming to class and watching presentations. she is super available outside of class as well and is great at lecturing + making material palatable :)
Dr. Osenkowski is a very kind person, she explains things well and gave 9 points of extra credit by the end of the semester. There is a lot of group work (postlabs); if you want an A, you will likely need to do the work yourself. Exams and quizzes (mostly MC) are straightforward if you study. Postlabs can have picky grading but not very difficult.
It's pretty much like any other lab with lots of reading, prep before lab, doing the lab work, and post-lab assignments. I didn't do so well on the exams, but there's a lot of other work that counts toward your grade, and your overall grade is based on points, not percentages. She's really nice and answers questions without judging.
