She assigns a lot of work, but is over all a very informed and interesting prof. Be prepared to work hard and you will certainly know how to write essays properly by the end of this class. She gives clear warning first day you start class, "it won't be easy"

Pam was the best teacher I've ever had! I took the accelerated summer class and she helped me increase my critical and analytical skills which have helped me look at the world differently and she prepared me for Univeristy writing. Even though she's not the easiest teacher, it's worth the hard work

I took Pam for 1A & 1C. A lot of people complained about her using the classes as a "platform" for her beliefs, but I think they were just mad that they didn't know how to write. Pam is a great teacher and was extremely encouraging and really made people think, even if they didn't want to.

She is not very hard on checking your grammatical errors.She is very political (liberal), so you'll need to somehow be liberal in your thinking to get a good grade. Your paper should be somewhat rebellious towards government and religion. She doesnt return paper on time :( .lot of work!!

Pam is a great teacher but some can't get past her political view. Right or left, she makes you think. If you get a bad grade it's because you're a bad writer. I rarely agree with her, but she respects my views

Ms. Richmond really helped me with my writing. I learned more in her class than I did in my 300. Her work is like ENGR 300, but she does a great job at preparing her students for 300. She is strict, but she really cares about her students writing, and she gives very good feedback.

She's talkative, fun, motivating, makes the class interesting, cracks jokes, an awesome teacher and everyone is participating and interesting. The times goes by fast!

mrs richmond makes you think and is pretty easy going, don't try to take advantage of her good nature

Richmond is a good teacher. most drop out of her class by the end of the semister. She is hard and has a TON of homework but if you do the work you shouldn't have a problem. She is easy to talk to and very understanding! Take advantage of her office hours, she helped me a lot with my essays and term paper. She is also hilarious in class as well :)

ONe of the best teachers of english at scc. very smart, very good. If you like to write take richmond, if you are a conservative bible thumper, you find yourself attempting to defend your views with out much success- becausse of you-not the proffesor, she is awesome

Great teacher

I would have to agree with some of the other ratings; Pamela is very liberal. However, that doesn't excuse the fact that she's an awsome teacher. I'm a republican, and I find that she is very helpful and is willing to negotiate. I've written papers she has not agreed with, and I still recieved at least a B on them. If u take her expect a lot of work.

Ms Richmond, please! Yes an ultra-liberal, slightly to the left of Karl Marx. Clearly an Ubermabige Frau Feminist. But she teaches. She lectures the entire class, works hard at it and teaches you to write. (Unlike some). And, boys and girls, she will teach you what a fallacious argument is. Critical analysis and hair splitting semantics, her forte.

I HATED ENGLISH BUT NOT ANY MORE ITS MY FAVORITE CLASS, SHE IS GREAT. TIME FLYS BY FAST! THE CLASS STARTS OF REALLY FUL AND ENDS UP EMPTY, BUT OVERALL SHE IS THE BEST!

She is not that tough. I learned a lot about econ and politics though less about grammar. She was willing to stay after class and help students with essays and writing. You'll learn a lot and just have to do homework--that's what she grades alot on.

She is a smart, sharp, and very opinionated but don't let that discourage you; she like a good verbal challenge and she is really nice too. She knows her stuff and she makes herself available for her students. We wrote at least five essays (mostly on political topics) and the work load was not bad. I would take her again.

She is a overall nice lady. I took her class and she demoralized me because of all the papers that I wrote in her class never seemed to be up to her standards. However, I took Eng 100 again and passed with a B. It was kind of strange because two of the topics that I wrote essays on she gave me a low C where as my last english teacher gave me B's.

I see a lot of comments about this professor that are negative but liked her. She improved my writing alot and made us think about alot of issues and read. There is a lot of homework and writing but hey its a writing class!!! She is helpful after class and talking to in person. Students who don't work won't pass. That explains the negativitiy.

She taght me alot about current events and English too. She is super understanding and helpful

Expects the homework done and to the specifications given. Attendance and participation important. Explained a lot of the why behind grading and expectations.

She was an excellent teacher. Got off subject alot but shewas there to help you if you needed the extra help

She is helpful, and if you are a student that usually does your work, the class is good. Midterms and in-class essays will make or break you!! Attendance is mandatory, she will fail you with 1 unexcused attendance, or 1 missing assignment. Still in the process of her class. I am in danger on failing because of 1 point shy of passing the midterm.

She is very opinionated. Controversial topics. Talks a lot. Nice. Late homework OK. Overemphasizes directions, but is lenient. My BP was through the roof, but I was on top of current events. A 3 point Thesis is HUGE with her. SHE makes you THINK. Recommended if you like voicing opinions, or listening to controversial discussions.

Loved this teacher!! Explains everything well. She actually wants people to pass. 3-point thesis is a huge thing with her. If you go to class consistently you will pass the class. Flexible with homework. Bottom line she is there for you and is rooting for you to pass.

She's a good teacher. I learned alot from her and she did allow makeup work as long as we bring paperwork. She's nice but you have to do homework and keep up. She reviews how she grades and talks about the final a lot. I learned alot about thesis and development and using source. Highly recomend and would take again.

Lets start off by saying professor Richmond's English writing class is NOT the class to take if you want an easy A. Richmond assign A lot of homework which can feel a tad bit redundant. However I can honestly say I learned A lot from her, and if you really want to learn, and become a good writer I would highly recommend taking her class.

Despite her toughness, she does want you to succeed and OPEN YOUR EYES and make your own opinions that you can logically defend. She is honestly a great teacher, and seems intimidating and rough around the edges, but it's more of tough love sense. She wants you to act like an adult and succeed!

Not an easy A class, but I recommend her. She assigns a lot of work and essays, but they're easy and enjoyable topics to write about. She's a hard grader, but she provides a lot of feed back (very helpful). The real problem is motivation. If you're off track, then you'll probably not survive her class.

Richmond is tough but not as hard as other people have said. I got along with her. I had trouble on my research project and she would talk to me after class and give me good suggestions. I do not think the class is hard unless you do not do the homework. You have to keep up with reading and there is a lot of essays to read and journals to write.

Since my class with her was in the summer, everything was condensed into 6 weeks. Thanks to her, I've become a better writer for sure. I noticed how much I've developed in my writing. She makes sure the entire class knows the material & doesn't move on until we know it solid. She was really nice but offered constructive criticism. Amazing teacher

You know at first I thought it was the end for me until I actually got to know her and talk to her after class. She's really cool if you talk to her and she makes sure you understand what you don't. I never had an English teacher so passionate about politics which was pretty awesome too.

One of my favorite teachers at SCC. She is super funny, sweet, and has sass. She does give a lot of homework and essays. She does grade work hard but it made me a better writer! She really wants the best for her students. & Yes she is political, but it is fun to write about these topics especially the ones happening today. THANK YOU PROFESSOR!

If you want to learn and have the time. Take this class. She is very dedicated and will help until you understand. Lots and lots of work but if you do it youll pass. Funny and cool. Wont be taking her again due to busy schedule and too much hw load.

Shes a great professor and really has her students best interest at heart. Shes understanding as long as she sees that you are genuinely putting in effort. i took her class a few years ago but i always remembered her. 4 Essays and Hw every week. i should have received an F but she gave me a C.

This was the first class I took in college during the summer of 2019. Honestly one of the hardest classes I have taken because it was almost a 3-hour class and we had to write many essays and read a lot out of class. She sometimes will give pop quizzes so be ready for those. For being a 101 basic class, it seemed more like a 300 or 302 class.

Professor Richmond is one of the most caring teachers I've ever had. This was an online class during the pandemic. Although there were a few times when the canvas assignments got confusing, she was really fair about remedies and really understanding when there were issues. I wish I had her as a f2f teacher, but of course covid made that impossible.
