Excellent Lecture. Grade based completely on Lecture/ Lab Exams - no homework, extra credit, no exceptions! Extremely easy going personality-explains everything very well. Mult. choice exams have all of the above and none of the above (which I HATE!!)
Talk to her about her lecture, your grade, upcoming exams, etc. She appreciates students who do more than just listen to lecture and leave.
All test questions come from notes handed out by prof. and off quizzes on web site.
Great teacher that shows she enjoys her job. The tests may seem challenging but everything on them has been covered and is straight from lecture and lab. If you talk to her and give feedback, ask questions, etc, she likes that.
Hard ass and hard class. Need to study your stuff hard. Nothing is given to you. Learn a lot in here so it is good for going further in BIO, but for an A and no more BIO, take someone else.
Good teacher. All tests come directly from lecture/lab. All those with high school mentality should take another instructor.
--Extremly good teacher who tolerates no BS. Don't take the class if your not willing to study! She can be very helpful and willing to help anyone but be warned! Don't touch her desk!
Maybe the worst class I have ever taken. She is unsympathetic and rude to students. She has a temper, and will blow up over the littlest things. Almost everyone did terrible on her tests. Avoid her at all costs.
This teacher needs to retire. It seems like she is bored of her job. She never comes in with a smile or in a good mood. She makes the class very nervous and afraid to ask any questions. There is no way you will get an A in her class.. Very rude, tough.
Very nice and good teacher. Mrs. Riddell conveyed a lot of information in an understandible fashion.
very unreasonable teacher not very helpful and no patients whatsover
Where do I begin? Riddel is a very nice teacher when you suck up to her, but there is no way you will ever get an A. If you do want an A prepare to have no life because you'll be studying forever!
I did study and do think i was the only one who got a A in my class. Got a A on every test, except last one, which was the drop. She questioned if i was cheating! HA
riddell, at first seemed like a witch.she is very stict.if you are nice to her and study those studyguides, you will do just fine. She really is nice once you get to know her.take good lecture notes do studysheets because that will be test.overall she is a great teacher i recommend her to all.
She is serious about teaching. There are a lot of details you need to know to be successful in this class. She is strict at times but will make jokes and shows that she is human and approachable. Read the book, study your notes and ask for help if you need it.
I got an A, but maybe the only one in my section. Notes are great, tests are straight-forward, lab exams easy. That being said, don't take her. On other grading assignments, grades more on style than substance, often not fair, you'll be pulling your hair out by the end. AVOID.
I took this class in the summer. You do have to study a lot, but the material is very straight-forward. She really tries to help you out and with her study questions... If you are unsure of the answer, ask her!! She will tell you what answer she expects. If you study her questions, and her study guide you are sure to succeed. She is nice, too.

eh, i don't think she was great by any means, but not horrible either. she was almost unapproachable in a way- she is very intimidating. her tests were really unpredictable, but it was possible to get a B pretty easily.

She comes off very rude and stern, but over all she is a good teacher, if you can get past her attitude
Its a lot of work, but she explains it well. Shes tough, so watch your mouth and attitude.
This woman is nuts! She is incredibly unclear, strict, mean, unapproachable overall a real ****! Her material barely relates to the test, everyone says do those study reviews and you'll be fine thats a lie! She expects you to study over 42 hours for one exam, which is completly unrealistic for most of us normal people. Oh and she enjoys yelling at
She is an itelligent professor and knows her subject, however she is very rude and degrading toward her students. I found that if she feels you should know it shes not going over again.
This was one of the worst teachers that I have ever had. She is very rude to you when you ask her a question, she makes you feel stupid. Studied for hours for her tests and never got higher than a C. Highly reccomend taking another teacher.
She is the best professor II have ever had. She is really rude though. Make sure you do all the review sheets that she gives to you because they are ALL test questions. I highly recommend taking her if you can put up with a ****y attitude. It doesnt matter about the attitude because she explains everything perfectly. Overall :)
Pam Riddell is an awesome teacher. She is dedicated to teaching the material, and does not suffer fools, lightly. If anyone did not like her, or her teaching habits, maybe they should look to themselves. Having had several Bio teachers, she is by far, the best. I got an "A" in her class, with hard work.
she is the worst teacher i have ever had. She could care less if you learn or not shes more worried about your english skills. very unfair with grading. Expects way to much from the students. Avoid her like aids.
Between M.C.C. and M.S.U., She's the best prof. I have ever had! She is strict but she just expects you to know and STUDY the material! If u can't pass her A&P class than I wouldn't want u as my nurse! I got 96% in her class, JUST STUDY!!!!!
VERY rude. She is that prof. you see in the movies what makes you feel stupid when you ask a question. VERY unhelpful! I would say to pick another teacher, don't waste your time with the aggervation...
shes loves her job to much!!!!!!!!!!!
Everyone complains B/C Professor Ridell is hard. College wasnt meant to be easy! She nit-picks but she is a terrific professor. She wants to prepare you for University standards and wants you to achieve to the highest level of edu possible. She's a bit snippy but I would definately recommend her to anyone interested in Biology & will work for it.
This professor is the one to choose for A&P. Lectures are to the point and she doesn't include excess useless information. The exams are right from her lecture notes. All you have to do is go to class. She will help you if you ask. Don't be a baby. Trust me Riddell is the best choice for this class. I got an A-.
Somewhat strict and expects a lot as far as homework and lab assignments, but covers everything you need to know in lectures. She didn't explain/prepare the class for the first lab exam, and most students failed, but your lowest score is dropped. This class requires a more than average amount of studying, but not too hard to get a B or better.
DO NOT take Riddell! Bio 2710 is a very difficult class and requires a good teacher. I do not question her knowledge of the subject matter, but her ability to teach and interact with people is poor. I have little respect for her as a human being let alone a college professor. I'm an "A" level student and received an "A-" in the class. I earned it.
If you have this teacher, get out of the class asap. She can't answer student's questions. She makes you feel stupid if you do not know the answers to the questions. Lectures are extremley boring and unclear. Very unhelpful during lab time. I'd rather have all my teeth pulled out than have to sit through her class.
The worst teacher ever. Not helpful at all, if you want to pass the class then you have to spend all of your time at the learning center, where somebody else can teach you. Avoid this teacher if possible.
I love this prof! She is upfront, gives study guides and E.C. if you attend the learning center. Absolutely no homework assignments! All exams are multiple choice and 80% of lecture exams come from the study guides. She doesn't go over the study guide but if you ask her some of the questions she will answer them. STUDY STUDY STUDY! Go to class do t
THE WORST TEACHER EVER!!!!! Avoid taking her unless you want to fail the class. I took her and failed her tests, ended up dropping the class. I took Bio 1000 with another teacher and got all A's on the tests. This teacher is not helpful at all.
only take this teacher if you are serious about studying.

I don't get the other comments that were made. I found her to be an excellent instructor. She obviously loves science, and can easily explain anything that is not understood in a way that will make you remember what you are learning. Be prepared to study hard, there are no free rides - but if you're going into medicine there shouldn't be.
Professor Riddel is a very good teacher. She's willing to help and will give you extra time if you need help. If you think you can ignore the lectures and the labs, think again. But if you apply yourself, you'll do well. From my perspective, the people who complained the most about her class exerted the least effort.
strict teacher for her class but informative gives you important notes you dont have to search for everything in the text
she is a very good teacher and her teaching if you just concentrate on what she teaches in class is enough for the exams
She is the worst teacher possible! DO YOURSELF A FAVOR DONT TAKE HER!
She comes off as really hard, but as long as you do the multiple choice questions in the back of each chapter and the on-line quizzes... you will do fine. Hint: Stay in the lab for review after your lecture exam, she will go over the lab exam material with you, if you ask!! DONT BE AFRAID TO ASK QUESTIONS! She was a great teacher overall!!
DONT TAKE THIS TEACHER!!!! never helpful, thinks if you dont know something your dum, give you attitude all the time, smart ass, she is soooo rude to her kids i dont even know why she is a teacher she seems like she hate teaching
Pamela Ridell can be flat out cruel, demeaning, and overly strict. She is not the teacher for those who have easily hurt feelings or simply need one BIO class. However, once you learn what she expects she is an incredibly intelligent and helpful teacher who will prepare you for future classes like no other. The tenacious will earn A's.
she's so moody - treats you like you are in 9th grade. she seems very angry about something all the time, yells a lot
on of the worst teachers i have ever had. makes people feel inferior. i don't know why she is teaching, she seems like she hates it. she has embarrassed people in the class when they volunteer to answer a question. most of us are now afraid to say anything or even ask a question. it is disappointing to me, i love school and she makes it unenjoyable
this was my second time taking this class..and, she was VERY! helpful and very clear and what she wanted, the class is hard..but, i think thats with any teacher you take. she gives assignments, and quizzes to help you boost your grade so its not just tests, which is nice. she is clear on what she needs. she is very sarcastic, but, very helpful.
Don't take this teacher if you like your GPA where it's at. She's condescending and tricks you on all your assignments and tests. Even working as hard as I did didn't get me where I wanted to be. It's not worth it. DON'T TAKE HER!
Ms. Riddell treats you like you're in highschool. You will spend most of your lab time listening to her blab about how you are a failure at life if you don't finish your lab book on top of the other 150 assignments she gives you. if you're planning on studying until your eye balls fall out and still failing her tests I recommend this class for you!
horrible teacher her class killed my gpa and now i have to retake the class. if you like studying for hours on end and not having a life only to fail her exams take the class, other than that dont. its not worth ruining your gpa over, shes just a down right horrible prof worst i ever had
I had her for the lab part of a hybrid course. The class was pretty easy for me. The exams very were easy.
She may seem like a hard teacher but at the very first class she tells you straight up what she expects of you and you have 90 points of extra credict that you can earn throughout the semester. Not once did I not know what to study for the exams and quizes. Go to class, pay attention, take notes and do the chapter reviews in the textbook. :)
I absolutely love biology & I very was excited to take this class. Until I had her, she was ridiculous. She is incredibly stubborn & outrageously rude. She put her opinion on everything and anything, and had a problem with everyone. I dropped after the 1st class I could not stand her horrible attitude.
NO electronics,No Laptop,Must ask to bring a tape recorder, within 2mins of the class she freaked out at a kid that was turning off his cellphone She yelled at a girl when she asked about power point ?NO I do not use power point so many teachers use it & I think its useless so I dont care if youre happy or sad I dont care what you think?DIRECT QUOTE
DO not take this Class! This Teacher is so rude and mean! she doesnt care about any students and she makes everyone feel like they're idiots. If you have her DROP out NOW
The teacher knows her stuff, however she literally is crazy. If you have her drop her class!
Hard Teacher but Hot as hell
I was VERY disappointed she was very rude spoke down to students all I could recommend is drop. Go figure we didn't get evaluations for her class
Having Mrs Riddell as a professor, was really enjoyable. I know some of the younger generation find her difficult. But if they truly listen to what she has to say and her rules, they all make perfect sense. Unfortuantly I have to take this class over, but I am looking forward to having her teach me again.
I try to see things from other points of view but this prof. is really nasty. In the real world if you told a client/customer "I don't know why you're bothering me with this" when asked for advice, you'd most likely lose your job. She was condescending, rude and obviously (in my opinion) doesn't like to teach. Here's an idea...retire!
Very good professor-you can actually learn from her!!
People say alot of bad things about her but she is actually a great teacher.
If you like being talked down to and treated poorly this is the class for you. Questions, forget about asking them! IF she answers them you have to deal with her terrible attitude and her attempts at belittling you and that is if she will answer them. Often she just flies into a rage, maybe she needs to be medicated, or another idea, retire.
Shes not easy. School isnt supposed to be easy. im 20 years old and its very depressing seeing these younger kids complain about the difficulty of the class. Anyways, the Prof. actually teaches you if your willing to learn. she dose have a sense of humor and i guess some people take it as rude. Great class.
Mrs. Ridell has got to be one of the worst teachers i have ever had! She is rude and will not answer your questions in a mature responsible way. She is a miserable old hag.She picks on you no matter what age you are! oh and lets not forget you have to know propper grammar to pass her class too! Bottom line she is nasty and needs her head checked!!
At first all I heard was she was terrible! she is strict on her rules which are fair the tests are hard only for the fact that it is a lot of info to cover. havent got higher than a 78 on a lect. exam but 80's 90's on lab. due to homework and extra credit i have a 91% as of now. im not the brightest so take it with a grain of salt and do the math!
She has an incredible sense of humor in which some may mistake for rudeness, but she has a genuine love for biology and she's always willing to help. I learned things in her class that I will never forget because she made you work hard for your grade. It was all worth it. I would take her class again any day.
She is very straight forward at what she is expecting and lets you know the very first day. She does not bend her rules but you know what to expect because of this. She is very knowledgeable in the subject and gives examples to help get the point across. Her tests are created right from your notes and questions she assigns from the chapter
from what i've heard she's a horrible teacher, but i have no complaints. she's extrememly helpful and makes everything easy to understand.
One of the most crabby teachers you could possibly have. Shes an old hag who will yell and get pissed if you do one thing wrong. Make sure you do no have a chair in the isle ways or she will yell at u and try to embarrass you in front of the class. Try to avoid if possible
I was fairly interested in biology, although I was not looking for a career in it. I'm not a lazy student, nor do I expect teachers to just GIVE me an A. However, Riddell was rude and made me lose motivation in the class. While she knows a lot about her topic and could be a great teacher, I found that her class was overbearingly tedious.
This teacher was the rudest, most bitter old hag I ever had the misfortune of having as a prof. She would shoot down serious questions asked and make you feel incompetent and stupid, she would make you do exercises out of the lab book without prior instruction or guidance, and she seems to love Biology but just hates people. DO NOT take her class
This professor is not one who should be teaching. Her heart is not into teaching and making sure you excel. You don't get your fair share of hours according to schedule. You miss at least 1 to 1.5 hours of class each class and you only go twice a week. She need to stay retired.
Not a bad teacher. She has a quirky sense of humor which some people find off-putting. She is kind of fastidious about some things. If you do the review questions she gives with every chapter, the tests shouldn't be too bad. If not, you'll be close to clueless. She knows her stuff too.
Shes horrible! She's mean and yells at everyone. Totally unreasonable, expects way to much for an introductory course. You cant even mess up on an h/w assignment. No white out, crossouts, or scribbles. Thats nuts, DROP AS SOON AS YOU CAN!
worst teacher ever! everyone dropped my class cause they were all failing. she is so mean to everyone dont take it
Most low ratings from this professor are becuase she's very particular. Follow her rules exactly and you'll be fine. Shes a very smart lady and is willing to help if you ask. She's tough on her students because most are going into a medical career, so why shouldn't she be? Give her a chance because she is an awesome professor and you'll learn alot.
Very negative and unmotivating. Picks on students and has rude sense of humor!
She is very particular, but not the shrew a lot of people make her out to be. She is a good teacher who will help you when you ask questions. Be in class, pay attention and do the work. Those who are so negative most likely did not.
All I have to say is this professor should retire. Not only is she rude for no apparent reason but she doesn't particularly care for anyone who wants to stay in the lab the entire class. I personally witnessed her humiliating people in class and I didn't find her to be a very helpful professor at all. I would not recommend her to anyone.
Prof Riddell is excellent! She is not easy and is very particular, but she wants her students to succeed. If you treat her and the lab with respect, you will get the same from her. Be on time, show up prepared, ask questions and study! Do all those things and you'll do fine. Those that slam her probably did none of those things.
Very rude and unhelpful
Just took her class for the spring semester and although there was a lot to learn, she made it so easy for us to stay organized. I didn't even buy the book I went off her handouts and the website for the book. Take her! She's funny and wants to see her students succeed. Don't be lazy, know your grammar, show up to class, and study! You'll do great!
She gives you a handout for every chapter. Do EVERYTHING on them, and staple them together in a packet. Go through the packets before each major exam. If you do those things, you will get an A/B. She can nitpick about inconsequential things (grammar, upper/lower case, no hats), but if you are nice to her (and respectful), then she is likewise.
professor riddell is awesome, i did have a run in or two with her because she can be rude sometimes but honestly she just means well, tough love kind of... she gives handouts for every chapter and a list of things you need to do to pass each exam, which teacher does that, do those things and youll pass, most of her questions come from the book q?s
One of my top 5 fav professors. I am a science major and this professor is perfect for any student looking for a serious class. LOTS of studying is required, however, she basically gives you the information. STAY ORGANIZED! Keep all handouts and do the online quizzes. 70% of exam info is from those. She's tough but I feel prepared for Microbio now.
I think Prof Riddell is a great professor. She is fair and very interactive. She was always available for questions. He tests were extremely fair, of course still hard. I wish she taught more classes for me to take. She has a great sense of humor!
She was awesome! If you must take this class, I highly recommend Prof. Riddell.
She's a great professor who really wants to see you succeed. She's funny too, she has a very sarcastic and dry sense of humor and I think people sometimes took that as her being mean. That of course was not the case though.
Riddell is HONESTLY MY FAV! I took her for both bio1000&bio 2710, she uses helpful information &helps you remember everything in each lecture-she gives a lot of notes &most of it is on the tests. If you're not resposible &organized you won't succeed in any of your classes but Riddell will straighten you out. Shes strict but amazing @what she does.
awsome professor. she is very helpful at all times and has a good sense of humor which makes learning bio a lot easier. make sure you study your notes and do the book work that she recommends its worth it for the tests.
Great teacher and super organized. Just don't get on her bad side and you'll do great!
The class started off easy and turned into a nightmare. Riddell began to be very negative and sarcastic towards students and taking her anger out on others. One student asked her if he could use her stapler and she yelled at him and when he asked another student to use their stapler she yelled at him again until he quit the class due to her!
She is one of the best professors I've ever had! Very up front about what is needed to pass the class. This class is not easy just ask anyone taking it. There is not a pre-req for this course so a lot of students show up and complain how hard it is. Some schools offer this in 2 separate sections that's how hard it is (take that up with the dean)!
I took her in bio 1400&2710 aswell. She is really tough in 1400. would not recommend her. projects are plenty but need to be completed precisely or else you wont pass. she says because class it easy she is tough on the students. which is fair. Bio 2710 was amazing with her. she was easy without any projects. tests were easy and from guide.
Professor riddell was the worst teacher I have ever had. She constantly talks down to students. If you ask a question she talks to you like you are stupid. Very rude and inconsiderate. Thinks you should already know this stuff so don't bother asking questions! DO NOT TAKE HER SHE IS A HORRIBLE TEACHER!
I do not understand why her ratings are low. I took her BIO class in the summer and it was pretty fair. The students that say she's rude are the students that do not respect her. If she knows you care, then she will do her best to help you. She taught the class very well. I would highly recommend her.
If you take the time to study, you will do great. You need no textbook! All of her exam questions come right from the review sheets she gives you. Take the time to do the reviews, memorize the answers, you will get an A on all of her lecture exams. Take the time at the learning center to know all structures. She is very easy if you apply yourself.
AMAZING PROFESSOR! ALL OF HER EXAMS ARE BASED OFF OF THE WORKSHETS AND REVIEWS SHE GIVES YOU TO DO. NO HOMEWORK. GIVES MANY CHANCES TO REACH MAX POINTS FOR EXTRA CREDIT. EXAMS ARE VERY EASY IF YOU DO THE REVIEWS. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED! I ABSOLUTELY LOVED HER AS A PROFESSOR AND WOULD TAKE HER AGAIN IF SHE TAUGHT THE CLASS THAT I NEED!
Ms. Riddell is very cool professor if you arn't a bum and put in the work. She flat out gave us what was on the test. Her jokes are pretty old but hey. Oh and ask her about skiing ;)
Worst professor I've ever had. When you ask her questions she gets frustrated that you didnt understand the first time and makes you feel dumb. She's so particular about her assignments for example if you have matching questions and the answer is a. Prokaryotic cells and if you write a capital A. She marks it wrong. she was just too much!
She is awesome! Do her study guide and you will get an A. Every question on the study guide is on the exam.
She is my most favorite teacher I've had at Macomb. Her tests are straight forward and everything in her notes and study guides are on the test. She's sarcastic, but funny. I had her for Bio 1000 and A&P and I absolutely loved her. If you listen, don't interrupt her when she's talking, and put in the effort, then she is more than willing to help.
Pretty easy, but comprehensively uninspiring. Takes petty classroom "offenses" personally. Gets upset at improper answer circling technique and pen color. The type of person that wont allow you to use the stapler in the classroom. If you try, she will lecture the whole class on preparedness. I aced the course but hated it. Unprofessional at best.
Riddell is a great professor. Do the study guides, pay attention in class, do what is expected of you. This class is not easy, but if you take an hour or so a week to do the study guides for lecture exams, you'll do great. Use the learning center to study for lab exams.
she teach like she is in the military. her attitude is she has hers so you get yours and she is not going to help you. I thought that is why we pay to go to college to be taught.
Biology is my major- so this was a class I enjoyed. However, this class was HARD. It is a little bit of everything, and a lot to learn in a little bit of time. With that being said, Prof. Riddell was AMAZING. She sets you up for success, with her outline style notes, and her organization. It's a wonderful system. Fail proof.
Biology is my major, so I overall enjoyed the class. That being said, Riddell is a great professor. Notes are fill in the blank, easy to follow. Take the time to do her review sheets and that's at least half the exam but DO NOT NEGLECT THE OBJECTIVES SHEETS. Very clear on topics, knowledgeable at best, admits when she doesnt know anything. Take her
I would recommend her to anyone taking bio 1000 ! GREAT PROFESSOR ! :)
Shes way to picky only can use pen if you mess up and scratch it out its points marked off she treats class like its a english class as well no correct punctuation and its points off she finds the littlest things to mark you off on by far my most disliked teacher at macomb she also never helps you when you ask for it and shes very very rude .
Prof. Riddell is by far the biggest nutcase I've ever met. how anal she is is completely insane. Very sarcastic which I enjoyed but has unrealistic expectations of how much time should go into her class. One time she even said physics should be a pre-req. Busted my ass, studied 40 hours a week for her class, ended up with an 83
Professor Riddell is a very realistic professor. She does lecture the students based on the overall participation of the class, but its for good reasoning. She is a very tough on grading when it comes to ink color and scratch outs. However, if you respect her she will respect you. She is always willing to help outside of the classroom.
RUDE she is so rude to students and doesnt have much respect for them if something isnt her way
Overall, the class was tough, but if you attend class everyday you'll be fine. She basically writes out the summary of the chapter with full in the blanks that she goes over during lecture. Make sure you do the practice tests and questions, alot of the exam questions are similar to those in the practice tests! Go to the learning center for practice
Very picky when it comes to how homework is done. No pencils. No erasing. No Cross outs. No white out. If you do, you get points off. Extra credit wise, you can get up to 40 pts. Occasionally rude but nothing major. Cracks jokes every so often. Notes are fill in the blank. She gives you checklists to help study and as long as you do them you're ok.
Very helpful. Does not sugar coat by any means but very good professor.
Does not teach very well
I recommend NOT TAKING IT WITH THIS PROFESSOR. you had something due almost every other day of the week Also, on the week of july 4, a quiz is open on the 2nd and closes on the 3rd, then exam, homework, quiz, and essay assignment in one week. Her "ONLINE" course is more work than an in class course would ever be.
Got an A- but I had to dedicate day and night to study .Really good at explaining material. Doing the checklists (Study guide) will make you pass the exams but dont expect an A unless you know her notes in and out. Helpful in lab, extremely sarcastic, VERY PICKY WHEN IT COMES TO HOMEWORK. Takes attendance but you need to go anyways to do good.
For this teacher, I would have to say be prepared. Read, read , read. The assignments were not hard but she is tough on grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Points will be deducted. Would have received an A had I been more cautious and did spellchecks.
Worst professor I've ever had. Holds you to a standard she doesn't hold herself to. Treats the class as a grammar class, not a biology class. Grammer is counted against you, yet every single email, lecture, quiz and test had multiple spelling errors. Question wrong answers, I had to fight for several because they were marked wrong and were not.
I took the hybrid bio, which made the online homework and exams a lot less stressful. The homework you're allowed to retake as many times as it takes until you get an A. The only hard part is the lab exams. Just don't miss a lab and make sure you study and you'll do fine!
This teacher was tough, however was one of the best biology teachers I have ever had. If she taught more classes than ones I already taken I would definitely take her again! Clear grading material, and taught exceptionally well. Lab was easy to understand, and lecture was online. Respect her and she will respect you.
I think she is awesome. She has a very good sense of humor and she is very clear with what she expects out of you as a student. You must read the material in order for her to answer your question as she will not answer something you were suppose to read. She is a great biology teacher.
The class felt more like an english class than a biology class. She's very vague when you ask her about feedback she's given you. Take this class with another prof! Make sure you read, read, read because you're basically on your own.
I thought this was an english class. She was very strict about grammar and such. Towards the end of the semester we had alot of assignments. I would not take another class with her.
Took this as a hybrid class. Extremely sarcastic and rude but will work with you. Some of her questions on homework and quizzes almost felt like they were trick questions. She gives very little time on the lecture quizzes and exams online. Towards the end a ton of bonus work was offered which honestly helped my grade a ton.
Out of all professors, she has honestly been my least favorite. I took her online nutrition class and it was harder than my online organic chemistry class. She grades very strict and teaches this class like it is a writing class rather than a nutrition class. I would not take a class with her again, and I have never been more frustrated.
I thought I paid to take a nutrition class but apparently this is an English course! She grades based of your grammar, spelling and punctuation and doesn't care to elaborate when you try and talk to her about it. Very unfriendly and takes her forever to grade assignments. Overall, I'm extremely disappointed.
Took her online class and it is terrible. She cares more about grammar then the actual material. Marks points off for nothing. For the exams, forget it, even if you study and try hard you still won't do good because she leaves you hardly any time. Honestly I don't know how she is qualified to be a professor. I could do a better job.
Worst professor I have had. You will be graded on your grammar, NOT the actual material. Must be an english major to take this class because the slightest errors she will take points off. Me and another student are going to report her to the dean. It is unfair to be graded on grammar when I am paying her to teach me about biology. Does not explain.
Took her online bio class and received a B because I had grammar errors in my work that I did not even know! She grades you based on grammar. In every single exam, there are spelling errors all over. Had to argue with her about my grade and why I have points taken off but she doesn't care. This class was insanely hard for an online class.
This is not a bio class, this is an English class! She grades you based on grammar and punctuation. It is very hard to get a good grade. Quizzes and exams are hard and she doesn't give a lot of time. Extremely frustrating to get points marked off for stuff I didn't even know was possible. Happy I don't have to deal with her anymore.
Do not take her class. She is terrible. Before I signed up for her class I saw the horrible reviews and thought it was fine and I could handle it. Everything people say about her is true. I do not know what is worse. The class or her grading method. She does not care about the actual material. As long as you do good in the grammar you will pass.
Very stern and no-nonsense, but if you're capable of acting like an adult you shouldn't have any problems with her. She told us exactly what to study and did her best to make a hard subject easier. I loved her.
Seriously beware, homework, quizzes and exams are easy, however it is a complete nightmare when it comes to discussions. She doesn't care about content only grammar. I was marked down to a 75 because I missed one comma. Extremely unfriendly and rude when I tried to email her about any questions. Take anyone else but her.
She was terrible. I did learn a lot in this class though. She mainly cares about grammar. She will do anything to take points off too, which I didn't like. And then she won't explain things. In fact all she seemed to care about was the grammar. I almost had to take her again this semester. Do not take any of her classes.
By far the worst bio professor at macomb. She grades you off grammar, not the actual material. I had to argue with her several times as to why I got points off and she told me to drop the class (because I stuck up for myself). She won't even answer questions. Listen to the other reviews because yes, she is this bad. She called a student stupid too.
I really enjoyed Professor Riddell. She knows her material, and she wants everyone to do his or her own work. That is what college is all about. I learned a lot and passed the class. I recommend this teacher if you actually want to UNDERSTAND biology.
Prof. Riddell is the most challenging professor I've ever had. She cuts your grade significantly for things like minor spelling and grammar errors. I had two different professional editor friends of mine proofread my assignments before I submitted them and Prof. Riddell still found issue. I would not recommend her at all.
do not take this teacher. she care more about grammar then anything which I thought was a complete joke. I never got the full points on the discussion cause my grammar/punctuation was always wrong and she would never tell me how it was wrong. this is suppose to be a easy first year of college class and she makes it to hard. I don't recommend her
Before taking her class, I read the reviews & was terrified. Honestly, I think the class changed because there was nothing that involved her "correcting grammar". There is a lot of reading for this course, but it's easy if you put the work in! There was one homework assignment, a quiz, & exam every week ( all multiple choice) & a project at the end
Absolutely terrible, DO NOT take this teacher. She is extremely rude and does not give good feedback.
This professor makes it difficult to tell how the class will be progressing. There is a master schedule that we are supposed to follow, however she jumps around and does not follow her own schedule. Very unorganized and causes a stressful class with confusing grading and date changes.
This professor is very disorganized. She rarely responds to emails and when she does, she makes you feel dumb and is snotty. She only grades on tests so if you are not a good test taker, you will get a bad grade. She offers no help and her quizzes are worded so that there could be multiple answers but you can only chose one. I do not recommend her
I took the lecture online & we once a week for 3 hours for lab. Professor Riddell sometimes has an attitude, but don't take it to heart, that is just how she is. She is funny, but I wish she made is clear what were on the exams. I feel like this course had too much studying than it needed, especially being an intro course. She has lots extra credit
Not great professor.
Anytime I reached out to her for questions, she always was very condescending and short. She is also such a nit picky grader, but luckily you only have to turn in a 3 part project which wasn't hard. But she was extremely anal about the entire thing which could cost you a lot of points if you don't do everything PERFECTLY.
I had her for online bio 1000 the first day she said in the lecture that she was not going to lecture; we had to read the material ourselves and that the zoom was for us to ask questions. Everything is locked and you cant work ahead. You only get 45 seconds per question on quiz and test.
This class is by far the most hardest class I've ever taken. Especially during the current pandemic we are in. Everything is online and including labs but you basically teach yourself everything. Zoom meetings are pointless because she does not teach a thing. You are only to come for questions which I think is not smart for the better of students.
Worst Professor to ever take for Biology 1000. She doesn't teach what needs to be taught for a lecture. Every test has so many questions but she gives no time to finish all of them. I couldn't even go back and check my work. Not to mention when you go on zoom, she doesn't follow along with the lecture notes. No good teaching abilities.
Good: All classwork is through Connect/Canvas. Lectures are mandatory but provided with notes to fill out. Public bonus work. Quizzes can be hard if you're too lazy to read or take notes, but easy otherwise. Generous drop grade policy. good sylbs. Bad: Prof seems pretty burnt out, making lectures unengaging. Labs are meh; offer no lab experience.
He is the worst DONT RECOMMEND AT ALL!!!!!
The class is a bit hard, a lot of reading but the teacher is really good, professional teaching skill, willing to help every student. You won't regret choosing this professor.
It felt like she did not want to answer any questions. Sometimes she was rude.
My other classes give at least 120 minutes for 50 questions. She offers 75 minutes for 100 questions... she does NOT give enough time to complete the exams. I wish I looked her up on here sooner.........
This is one of the worst professors I have ever had. I've never had a professor who has such little respect for students. If you don't know the correct answer during reviews she will either skip questions, or yell at the class. She does not give enough time for exams, for a 100 question exam she gives 75 minutes. DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASSES WITH HER.
Very bad Teacher. She makes everything 10 times harder. Her Tests & labs are very very hard. She gives only 50 min in order to finish 100 questions, her extra credit work is a joke ( 16 questions in 3 min) . Worst teacher in MMC
If you value your sanity take this class with a different professor. Trust me.
I'm surprised MCC has a professor like this. Rude and mean to students, condescending, and unreasonably difficult.
I took her online class. I had to read all the chapters myself so I can't really rate her on her lectures because there weren't any. She gave you a clear guide when it came to taking notes. Very few extra credit assignments. Overall a good class. When I met her in person she seemed very nice. would 100% take her again.
I was very scared reading reviews of Professor Riddell especially since this was my very first online class. She was a great teacher, available to answer any questions. She made what she expected very clear. Study and follow her deadlines and you will do well!
This teacher will not work with you. 1) I was having issues with getting my connect code due to the school switching companies and she just wished me the best of luck. 2) She gave me a 0/80 ONLY because I recorded my activities in hours and minutes instead of solely minutes. When I tried fixing the issues right away she would not accept it.
Very unprofessional! Takes days to respond and gives you credit/no credit for big grades if you do one thing wrong you get a 0! I would recommend staying away from this professor!
I have had to send multiple emails to get a response through the whole semester, she emails back on her time. Tough grader, and does not give 2nd chances so make sure everything is correct on the first submission. Exams are 50 questions 38 mins quizzes are 25 questions 19 mins. Take your time read the chapters throughly, you should be fine.
This was an accelerated online class taken in the summer. There are timed tests and quizzes that are not able to be taken over. The homework allows for unlimited attempts. The DAP was a project with a specific outline. Follow the outline and your grade will reflect!
This “professor” doesn't care at all about personal schedules and refuses to open any assignments even a day early. Not only does she not care about her students but her tests and quizzes are unnecessary challenging. You don't even get a minute per question. Takes days to respond and is never helpful when she does. Avoid her at all costs.
This class can be a mixed bag - the professor is sometimes disorganized, but if you stay on top of the work and use helpful resources like unstuck AI, you can succeed. The grading is heavy on exams, so prep well. Overall, it's a challenging but manageable course.
Would not recommend this professor. She is extremely rude and not accommodating to the fact that students have lives other than her class. She also ignores emails. Being that my class is completely online, this is unacceptable.
Easily the worst professor at MCC. She will not answer your emails and is not nice to students. I had to contact the Dean of Science just so she could answer me. It's absolutely ridiculous that someone like this could be the future for students.. Nearly failed her class because she lacks common sense. Good luck if you ever take a course from her.
