I have Mrs. Duck for CalI. I was TERRIFIED of this class. She has made everything so understandable. I honestly think she can get anyone to understand. She is very willing to help in class and outside of class. There are no stupid questoins. WARNING: DO YOUR HOMEWORK!! She HATES it when u don't!
Great teacher, no doubt. Explains everthing really well. Do your homework and you will be fine in her quizzes and exams. DO YOU HOMEWORK!
She's an amazing teacher, but it is a hard class just because it's Calculus. Do your homework, form a study a group and you'll be fine.
Hard class. Awesome teacher. Dont expect any freebie points. Study hard and do the homework!
Amazing Instructor! Highly recommended! She explains the material very well - makes it easier to learn. I would suggest not to miss a class b/c the book makes it too complicated to understand on your own - her lectures make is so much easier! Do ALL of your homework - that is where the Quiz and Test Questions come from. WONDERFULL INSTRUCTOR!!
had her for finite, class was hard, but she was helpful in every way possible except when it came to tests. Too many points could be taken off for one problem.
I took her online survey of calc class. She was very helpful, and she is so patient! I would definitely recommend taking her.
She was okay. Would prefer a better teacher.
She's alright. She's kinda hard on being absolutely on time and she gives you like a 10 second break.Sometimes I'd ask her questions and she isn't that helpful, making me feel like Im supposed to know that a long time ago, isn't cool. She's really in Cal though, so yea u can take her.
Someone wanted a better teacher? Good luck. EXTREMELY helpful, good high standards, and a finely honed ability to explain with clarity. Highly recommended.
This class provided no practical application whatsoever. It was a waste of time and money. I am just glad to have passed the course. There was zero instruction or assistance from Ms. Duck. I was surprised to read good ratings. When I sought help from her, Ms. Duck had nothing more to say to me than "online classes aren't for everyone."
Unless you already know Calculus or you are extremely good at teaching yourself, do not take this professor!!!! She will go over what you need to learn, but she will not TEACH you much. Also is very hard on grading.
Great instructor! This class requires a lot of time and practice. She will help you in any way she can and you will go into Cal II completely ready.
Terrible. Thats all that can be said. Most useless 'teacher' i've had. She started out the semester with 30 some students and by the end of it was left with less than 1/3. Just all kinds of awful.
Good college algebra teacher. easy tests as long as you study.
amazing teacher! i highly reccomend her and even taking it online! it is a little more costly, but you get several times to do homework and quizes. very clear and helpful teacher. I WOULDNT RECCOMENT ANYONE ELSE BUT HER!! shes a great teacher!
I would take a class under her again first chance I got. Considering the difficulty that I was having with the material, she was very helpful and available. She kept trying and re-explaining as much as she had to in order for me to get it. A+
Horrible teacher. Doing examples on board she skips steps and does them in her head without even telling you. Wasnt available right before a test when she said that she would. Doesnt explain enough and when she does explain problems, you can't understand what she is saying. All in all, the WORST teacher that I have EVER had.
I can't believe all of these people were so pleased with her. She is unfair when it comes to grading and moves way too fast. No one in my class liked her and everyone was always lost.
I took the College Algebra class online. The reviews given for exams are pretty much useless since she puts information on the tests that is not on the review. You pretty much have to grasp all the sections taught to have any hope of attaining anything higher than a C in this class. I do not advise taking her if you struggle with algebra at all.
Best math teacher ever.
Not a good teacher unless you're a math natural. She races through the material, she isn't helpful if you're trying to understand a concept more clearly and is an incredibly tough grader.
Very tough grader and does not explain anything well. The test reviews are useless since none of that material is on the actual test.
A horrible experience is the best way to put it. Unfair grading and poor teaching methods. There are no other contributing factors, this teacher's poor quality can quite literally be the difference between receiving an A or an F. Unless you're a strong self-learner, I strongly consider choosing a different teacher.
She is a great teacher if you are going into a math related field. I had her for Cal 1 and 2 and flew through Cal 3, Diff Eq, and Linear Algebra with ease thanks to her. Take her if you need to learn math.
Imagine Professor Umbridge from Harry Potter 5. Then imagine having her as your trigonometry teacher. She is helpful at times though.
I took her online for college algebra. It was one of those classes I wasn't looking forward to and it was a struggle, but she was helpful anytime I couldn't figure out how to work a problem. It's a lot of work and I think if you show you're working hard and trying she'll be a little easier on you. Good teacher, tough subject.
Math has never been my forte, but I took online Trigonometry with Ms. Satterfield and really got a lot out of it. I received an A for the class, but I REALLY worked for it. It's a lot of work but you will learn a lot and she is really good about helping you with any questions or problems you have.
Very nonhelpful. Very very confusing. Makes her tests trying to trick you and are very complicated. Tests are so much different than homework and a lot more complicated.
I personally found her rude and belittling. She got an attitude when we couldn't understand the material. The test was completely different than the homework. I was getting tutoring for the class and still ended up with a D.
Nice lady but awful teacher. I would never recommend her to anyone. So confusing when she tries to explains things. And when you don't understand something, she just kinda stands there and laughs for a sec.Every single person I know who has had her said she's the same in every class. AVOID.
She is a good teacher. Most of the people on here are just not accustomed to working hard. In a math class it is ultimately YOUR responsibility to learn the material. Don't let your unwillingness to put in the time to succeed determine her rating.
I loooooooooove Mrs. Satterfield. She honestly cares about her students and truly wants them to succeed. The class is hard but, seriously, it's freaking calculus, it's going to be hard no matter what. I have taken this class from another teacher and, by comparison, she is SO much better at teaching. Failed my last one, got a B in this one.
Pamela Satterfield is a nice woman. She teaches the class and asks if the students follow along. If you're confused, she will try to help but expects you to know your math from previous years.
I noticed many of people said she was horrible. I noticed all the people who agreed she was good realized that you have to work for it. She is a great teacher. None of her test had any 'unexpected things.' You had to study, do the homework that she didn't require, but suggested, and guess what, you walk away with a good grade. I would suggest her.
Horrible, do not take this woman.
Doesn't really go over the homework to help you and the examples she shows you before the homework doesn't help you at all.
Homework is not graded but I strongly recommended that you do all of it and take advantage of the documents she puts online to study for her tests because the questions are similar. It's hard to recover from missing class; sometimes she gives extra credit options for those who attend. Nice professor if your willing to put in the effort.
I made the huge mistake of taking Cal 1 online. I really tried very hard doing homework, quizzes and assignments but it is just to hard to teach yourself. The deadline for the assignments is every 2 days M-W-F and if you work on problems after the deadline, there is a 10% penalty for each problem. The final is different that the review she provides
Online class is not helpful.
She doesnt provide help. She just give years old youtube videos(most of it arent even hers) and tells us to just do the HW problems(which are due everyday). HW are done and graded by MyMathLabs. No effort is put to her class, must be her easiest paycheck. You can study very hard everyday and not get a good grade. She should curve our grades atleast
Don't ever take her summer courses unless you want to spend your entire summer solving her puzzles just to have her fail you. She clearly doesn't know how to do calculus and takes it out on the students.
Great teacher. I myself didn't do good in the class but if you spend your time on the homework she assigns you will get an A. Don't miss classes cuz then its hard to catch up.
Professor Satterfield is very organized and provides all the information you need for the class up front. Her tests are challenging, but generally there are no surprises if you do the homework. She provides copies of old exams for practice. She made a very difficult subject a much better experience than the other calculus professors I've had.
Mrs. Satterfield is VERY hard. If it's your first time taking trig, you are likely to not understand much of the problems she works through in class. But the real problem begins when you ask questions about things she thinks you should already know. She tends to be condescending when answering.
Show up to class and do all the homework. Then make sure you take time to study before exams. Exam questions are usually from previous quizzes, homework, or study guides she's providing. Do specifically what she says and you'll pass. Lots of studying for a basic algebra class. She can be a little sassy in class when no one participates.
Survey of Cal isn't a walk in the park, but the structure of this class complicates things further. There are several silly stipulations to getting partial credit on exams for showing your work and getting the bonus bank points for completing reviews. Be sure to read the fine print in the syllabus or it could come back to bite you in a big way!
Lot's of work, zero feedback/communication. You need to 100% already know Cal to pass this class. Tests differ from reviews drastically.
I've never hated a class so much. I'm only half way through the semester and I so desperately want to be done with this class. The test reviews take me about 4 hours to complete. They're extremely redundant and not helpful. My friend that took the class with a different professor said hers was much much easier. Please do not take Satterfieldsclass.
WAYY to much homework. If you plan to just take her class and only just her class, then take her, but it was ridiculous.
Luckily, I remembered a lot of stuff from my previous years of math. It's math so you just have to know your stuff. However, if you're wrong, during class, she might call you out on it in front of everybody. She is very condescending and will mark you wrong on a test but not explain why unless you ask her, but what's so hard about writing it down?
Watch out! Homework is expected to be done BEFORE every class period, daily grades are taken at random to keep you on your toes. Tests are not open note and require heavy studying, most people in my tuesday/thursday class have either dropped or are currently failing. Good Luck :)
Worst Trig. Professor by far! I thought Susan belimick was hard but Pamela is worst! Doesn't help you review for any tests, expects you to know the course and study on your own. Makes up her own problems and doesnt go over everything needed to complete HW and material that will be on test! Dont take her if you want to fail! She truly doesnt care
I decided to take online calculus over the summer with her as I didn't think it would be too bad. The class is incredibly hard, tests are worth almost all of your grade, and she doesn't seem to care at all about whether her students do well or not. The most frustrating experience I've ever had in my schooling career.
Took her online class and it was awful. She hardly ever responded to emails or offered any help. Doing the reviews for the test were basically useless because the test would have problems that you didnt study for. I recommend not taking her for any class.
Horrible. Says they offer tutoring to help but they did not. The online videos she uses for her lecture are not even her so when you do your work how the video explains to you she takes points away because she wants something different that we haven't learned. Do not take her online course.
worst professor ive ever had, shes blunt and calls students out if they get problems wrong, follows notes in every lecture and works easier problems than whats assigned, exams are EXTREMELY DIFFICULT and harder than what she teaches in class, homework is given every night along with surprise daily grades in class. she also had a sour attitude :/
there is a lot of similar homework you need to do, but she is not going to collect them often, so if you miss a class, you might mess up your grade, and then waiting for the tests! There are more than half of my classmates drop the class or they don't even mind to do the test anymore. I think her online class might be a little easier, more helpful.
My warning is this. Run! Run as far away from this teacher as you can if you want to keep a high GPA. She doesn't do any reviews for tests and never offers extra credit. She hardly ever gives partial credit on answers. She rarely collects homework so you will not have anything to cushion your grade. Please do yourself a favor, choose someone else.
if you expect to pass trigonometry, do not take this professor. the most toughest grader I have met, doesn't really care about grades. I have always been great at math, all A's every year until now because her lessons are easier than the tests, did test corrections and couldn't find similar questions in the book for the worksheet we had to fill out
I believe she may have been the worst professor i have ever had. She does not care about your well being in the class. I would NOT recommend taking a class with her, unless u like a hard grader and a non helping teacher.
If you plan to take this class over the summer through the University of Arkansas, DO NOT. There is HW (anywhere from 10-25) problems due almost every day, and quizzes due every Sunday that you will fail unless you work out the problems EXACTLY as she wants it, regardless of whether you get the answer correct.... exact Same for exams. Beware of her
She is a very good lecturer but the stuff overall and the amount of stuff you learn is ALOT. She goes through it really quick and expects you to master ALL of it. She's one of those professors that will put the hardest question on her tests so beware.
The lectures given for this course are not even done by Dr. Satterfield as she pulls videos from various other teachers. Her grading is very harsh as well. She never answers your questions directly and will always just point you to another online video rather than actually teaching the students. I feel that a paid teacher should actually teach.
I do not understand how a professor who doesn't teach nor answer direct questions still has a job! You are expected to answer her way exactly. Correct answer? Doesn't matter. Math is everywhere and diverse; even the homework example and video lectures(that she doesn't teach) show different methods. Yet you have to magically know what she wants.
Math is supposed to be a diverse subject, if you get an answer while doing it differently then that's ok, however this professor clearly doesn't understand that. You are supposed to be doing work the way she wants it and will not care about your grade or even try to work with you. My suggestion is that if you like Math don't take her class.
It is difficult to take this class during COVID times, I always ask her questions, and she said that I must know the topic. Since she says that, I never ask questions because I do not feel confident. We did exams by gradescope and MML and it does not help, because for a few things she makes your score slower.
She doesn't care is you got the question correctly you have to do it her way for credit. She grades harshly. She makes the course difficult to navigate online. She doesn't keep grades updated on canvas so you don't really know what your grade is in the class. She's rude and condescending. 10/10 would not recommend taking a class with her.
Pamela Satterfield the worse, absolute worse instructor at NWACC. She lectures to the board, she belittles students who dare to ask questions, her tests are unnecessarily hard. She told us to stop coming to her office hours for help. It feels like she hates teaching & hates her students. There is no encouragement in her teaching, only criticisms.
I took this as a summer class and honestly, these reviews are pretty dramatic. Yes, she makes you show your work a certain way. For example, she takes off points if you leave off notation like lim when solving limits problems. Guess what? She also gives points if you at least tried - even if you got the wrong answer. Some professors give you a 0.
This is a pretty easy class but sometimes the communication was off between the professor and me. If you don't watch the lectures then you might not know some of the stuff but it's easy to teach yourself.
The material is very easy. The tough part is living up to her grading standards. If you make a mistake and put a question on the wrong page expect to get a 0. Lazy teacher. Good teachers grade your ability to understand the material. Horrible teachers dont care if you understand just that you do what they say.
You would think the ability to teach would be a prerequisite for a teaching job, apparently not! She hates teaching and it shows! She gives very few opportunities for her students to succeed. She doesn't care if you understand, she is not willing to help, you get it from the lecture or not at all. If it wasn't for YouTube, I'd have flunked!
I read the reviews, since I am straight A's in math, I thought I could do well. If it wasn't for YouTube and on-line math tutoring classes, I would have not passed this class. Not because the material is difficult, but because she is such a poor teacher! She talks to the board and refuses to explain problems. Her tests are unreasonably hard. Run!
She was definitely a caring professor. I almost dropped out of the class because it was so hard she told me really think about if I wanted to drop or keep going and pass this class (bc I had a C) cause she knew I could. Do you work, ask questions. I didn't get an A but C's get degrees too. I am TERRIBLE at math so I'm glad I passed that class.
It's her tests that will get ya. They are unreasonably hard. Sometimes the questions don't even relate to the topics covered. I only received an A because I have a strong math background. When I pointed out that we had not covered the material on the test, she became rude and condescending. I honestly don't know how anyone passes her classes.
Personality wise she is sweet. However, she is a TOUGH grader. One time I got 0 for a homework problem that was right! I scanned it on Photomath to see because I could have sworn it was right and sure enough it was! Exams are hard too. I wish I could have picked a different one, now I have a C. Just pick a different one.
She is a nice teacher but is a harsh grader she does not offer extra credit so the class is all based on tests and the tests don't match the review and she makes you study over 40 questions for the final when the exam is 13 questions long. just make sure you know calculus before taking calculus
She was helpful to a certain extent. She didn't give me anything nor was anything taken. I felt like I was treated fairly. I finished the class with a high C. The online lectures were decent but sometimes I had to go re-watch certain material and sometimes look elsewhere for a better explanation (just like you would in any class.)
She gives an ungodly amount of homework and expects it done by the next class period. She is brutal on grading and something as simple as a missing parenthesis will cost you points. When I emailed her about having issues in the class she really seemed to be indifferent about the whole matter. I really would recommend you not to take her.
almost everyone in my class dropped it around midterms including myself. Does not care for right answer and can't follow your work so she will just doc points. hard grader on tests and her homework will only confuse you if you don't already know trig. she got angry at the class for asking too many questions and that it was rude that we did so.
Neve have I had a worse instructor. Doesn't teach the material, hates to be asked questions, tests are unbelievably hard, and the test questions are more complex than the homework or examples given in class. It feels like she hates teaching & hates her students. Take an instructor who wants you to succeed, not one who enjoys failing her students.
Algebra is a fairly easy concept, but after taking this class, I'm not even sure if I know Algebra. I've done very well on the homework and studied every day for about 2-3 hours just to receive very poor grades; Her grading is very harsh, and she does not consider the work that you show her at all. I really DO NOT recommend her class.
If you just watch her online lecture and do all your homework you will easily get A
Videos in the beginning and the end of the semester were okay, but mid-course her videos are extremely laggy and cuts ahead to parts where you will feel lost. You will waste hours on lectures that do not cover all the material needed to finish the homework and will need MML lecture videos in addition to her videos some units. Don't sign up for her.
Terrible professor. She does not take the time to explain anything or answer questions. If you try to ask questions, she is very belittling. Test questions are 10 times more difficult than anything done for homework/quizes. She is very good at making people dislike math. Do not take if you want to keep your GPA.
She doesn't teach; she lectures. She doesn't answer questions, she belittles. She shows no love for her topic or concern for her students' success. I passed because I hired a tutor and watch hours of videos. They come no worse than her. I cannot even begin to describe how awful it is to be in her classroom. She makes you want to give up.
Professor Satterfield taught me both college algebra and Calculus 2 and I plan to take her online Calculus 3 course at the university. The test are almost exaclty like the online reviews which are all based on the homeworks. There is alot of homework but thats just what it is. This class was difficult but it was not unbearable. grades generously.
Good teacher. The material is difficult but she clearly cares about her student's success. Generous with partial credit on exams. Homework and review tests are required.
I'm currently taking her class, and it's rough. Her 'lectures' are recorded videos of her filling out the class notes (from the COVID era). The videos are just snippets from her previous Zoom classes, and they're not really teaching anything, at least not for me. She's a nice character and answers your questions, but not really good enough.
Satterfield is a great teacher if math isn't your strongest subject. She's very kind and has built in time in each lecture to review previous homework questions. Very generous when grading test. If you can prove you understand a concept she'll give you partial credit. One of the best math teachers at NWACC.
Professor Satterfield's class was a real challenge. While her videos were helpful at times, they often lacked crucial content. Unstuckstudy and the textbook were essential for understanding the material and completing assignments.
She didn't communicate very much with her students, and when she responded to my email, she was very short and rude. Not very willing to be flexible and help students.
