Although she is an excellent teacher, she is a pretty hard marker.She is very kind at heart If you ask for any help. Her expectations are super high from her students,and her assignments are super hard,but you learn so much that its hard to absorb allofit

For people who are accustomed to Kwantlen's generally laid back classroom setting, this prof specifically teaches her students university level thinking and writing by enforcing such a rigorous coursework regimen with a hard but fair marking scheme that even the brightest students have to truly work towards the A that she rarely gives out.

She's a hard but awesome teacher. She really cares about her students and disklikes those who aren't willing to put in the effort to get a good grade. If you're willing to work hard, I think you'll enjoy the class. She's one of the best proffs I've ever had.

Shes a fairly hard marker unless she likes you. On the other hand she is relatively helpful compared to most teachers I've had. However what I dislike about her is that she can be very rude and hypercritical of her students. Some of her comments I found... were very unprofessional to say the least. Take her at your own risk

If you want to recieve help from Pam she will be there for you. If you do not have interest in getting help she will put no effort in which is fair.I would recommend her.

She is a good professor. She has knowledge and experience, which is a bonus. She teaches and expect students to continue think once off the class. Small assignments which is helpful for students in the first year.

If you don't know how to write or you're looking for someone to coddle you, don't take her class. I agree she makes it harder than it has to be but, on the flip side, you do learn a lot.

If you're incompetent in english, don't take Swanigan. She's a nice person with some crazy quirks, but a hardass when it comes to marking to say the least. She tore me to shreds, and in no way was it constructive criticism either. However, because of her, my writing has improved and I no longer take things at face value; I question things more.

She's a hard marker, but it's not impossible to get an A. Go for extra help EARLY in the class, if she sees you're working she will be more apt to 'bump' your grade up. Has anyone else noticed that all the bad reviews have typos and grammar errors? No wonder you people didn't do well.

This teacher is very hard but will bend over backwards to help you reach your potential. Unfortunately, she spends long stretches of class babbling about nonsense.

Although this is a first year class, the work load is that of a fourth year class. In order to be successful in this course, you must spend anywhere from 6-10 hours per week at home. Pam is an excellent instructor, and she is brilliant. She does have high expectations, but is very willing to help students when they put forth effort.

I am giving her a 5 in easiness to balance out her extremely low easy score, the other 5's she deserves. I just finished 1100 with her and took 1099 with her last semestar. Look guys, this is an English course, and has standards set by the school: all instructors will be hard if you can't perform at this set level. Wonderful "TEACHER", period...

If you want a challenge in your own writing, she can be very useful to you. If you care about having an easy instructor, do not take her class. She's a hard marker, and has a ridiculously high expectation from her students. She's somewhat bias and questions your response if she disagrees and afterwards, deduct your mark. She talks down to students.

Pam is a great prof. She is hard, but her advice helped me become a much better essay writer. Before her, I was getting B's, C+'s on ENGL essays... after her, I am getting A+s across the board. To those who are bored - don't take any more lit classes after first year. I don't want to see you.

Although Pam's classes are extremely difficult, she is a great teacher. She has very high expectations for her students but she's always willing to give help to those who need it. I can guarantee that after you take a semester with her and make a conscious effort, your writing will improve greatly. Her lectures are helpful as well.
