Professor Agrrawal is a very nice man. He has warned us that next semister might be a more difficult class, so we should pass it this semister if possible. He knows a lot about finance and can explain it in easy to understand terms. I highly recommend this professor.
sign up for his section. He's very helpful and clear. He focuses on the quality of the material that you cover in class and won't rush through a chapter. He's down to earth and makes the material easy to understand.
Best Professor I have had at UMaine so far, he wants his students to understand the real world concepts of this class. Much more down to earth then most of the other business professors. I would take another class with Pank anytime.
Doing more problems in class that are similar to the test questions might be helpful.
very helpful teacher and genuinely cares about his students. i am not a fan of the finance subject but pro. agrrawal def made it a moe enjoyable sunject and easier to understand. TAKE THIS SECTION! you do not want prof ford from what ive heard!!!1
Because of the nature of the class and the fact that it was a 3 hour night class, I was dreading it. But Pank was very interested in his teaching and the success of the students. If you put in the time and effort, you can learn so much and actually enjoy the material. He makes it very applicable to real life and is a great person too.
The professor showed he was very concered with the amount of meterial that we learned. He truely cared about each student and did anything he could to help us learn. He put in a lot of time and effort into the class to make it as easy as possible for us to succeed.
I'm sure Pank is the best teacher I will have at UMaine. He goes beyond his teaching duties and gets to know his students on a personal level. Does not ask for much, just do the work he asks and you will do fine. Amazing person.
One of the best teachers I have had. He has field experiance and excitment for the topic. He also cares. Great Guy.
Pretty easy class, sometimes hard to fallow but keep up with the homework, go to class every period and study the homework problems before the test and you should get a A.
Pank is a really great teacher. If you keep up with the work and have good class attendance, he will notice! He's one of the first "large lecture hall" professors I've had that has actually taken the time to remember as many names as possible. He is an incredibly smart man, offering knowledge not only about finance, but other topics as well.
Pank is a good teacher who expresses ideas to the class that should be considered in the business world.
I would recommend him to anyone. He has a lot of real world experience to bring to the class. He makes it very interesting, and there is no reason to do badly in his class. Just go to class, and do the homework and you should do fine. He really cares about his students. I would go to class, because he does take attendance.
Pank is a dedicated professor, and he taught strategic management even though it isn't his direct area of expertise. He put a great deal of effort into researching the material, and produced a unique synthesis of information concerning management policy.
okay class if you can get past his ego
Good proffesor
An excellent professor, very helpfull and willing to offer advice for this rigorous course.
Great Professor who really seems to care about the students progress. Can be a little hard unclear at times but it all works out in the end.
Pank is a funny man. He tries to joke, but only one or two people get it. He made you want to go to class, because test questions are taken straight from lecture. Show up and its easy.
Pank represents a good blend of a prof who has work experience in his field as well as being very knowledgeable. Even better, he does an excellent job communicating his material. Maine Business School should hire more profs like Pank!
Easily one of the best professors that I have ever had. He works very hard to meet the needs of his students, he even spent time with students during residency week to get to know them. He is very ambitious, and if he has a fault it is that he may try to do too much at times, but you get your money's worth for sure.
This class isn't like any other course that I have taken. It is like learning a whole new language with a few economic and accounting principles thrown in. Honestly, attendance is key to doing well in this class.
You will learn the material so well from Pank that you could have surgery and while in a drug-induced haze still remember enough Financial Management to make complex, life-altering financial decisions. Surgery was yesterday and am in a drug-induced haze and am in the process of buying a house! I have used P's info to help me make the best decision.
I had a hard time with class. But he is ALWAYS there for a sutdent, no matter what. Gets back to emails and you can even ccall him. I thought the class was boring, but he meant well and tried hard to make it better and easier. If you have to take this class, take it with him!
Professor Agrrawal is one of, if not the, best teachers I have had in the University of Maine system. His ability to inspire the students to do well on this extremely challenging material is his best attribute. His class actually teaches you how to save money, while making money, without working. PERIOD. HE GETS IT DONE!
Good Professor. Very Knowledgable.
Very good professor. Makes a dry topic somewhat interesting. Just go to class and do the homework he assigns and you should do fine.
Extremely useful and relevant. Pank does a great job of keeping the academic material relevant with real world anecdotes and a semester long portfolio project. He will also sacrifice some class time to discuss current issues and questions. He takes what could be extremely boring and makes it interesting and yes, even fun. Highly recommended.
works his hardest to give every student an opportunity to do well. go to class, pay attention, and you will do fine!
class is boring as **** but if you go to class and do the homework you should do fine. pank teaches the basic principals of finance but doesn't really teach the bigger picture of how to use all of this stuff in everyday life. i was kinda disappointed about that.
Pank gave many opportunities to succeed in the class through extra credit and clearly explaining test material. I do not really have much interest in finance, but Pank made the subject matter interesting enough. If you have to take finance, take it with him. He cares so much about his students and he is pretty funny too.
Knows his stuff cold is very fair and friendly, haveto go to class, he brings his stock market experience to lectures- finance is my new major now. Money and time well spent!
Very much involved and concerned with the class and students. Very knowledgeable. Good professor.
Great Prof
This class was very helpful to life outside of college. Getting a loan, buying a house, purchasing stock, smart ways to invest your money, to make money. All of this topics are covered and this class provides you with knowledge you can, and will want to use forever. Pank really cares about how his students are doing and will help you, alot.
He is a really nice guy, just the stuff he teaches is really boring and he doesn't make it interesting. He takes attendance and you can miss 2. 3 exams including the final. Fairly hard tests, but short. Posts lecture notes on firstclass. Study homework questions and you'll do fine.
Pank is great. He is very wise, cares a great deal about his students and has a great sense of humor. Going to class is a must b/c you learn so much when you're there. The notes provided are crucial since the book is backup. When preparing for the exams, do the homework assigned repeatedly & ask questions. Go to class, do the work & you'll do well!
This class was extremely useful to me. It is hard and requires hard work. Your grade will reflect the amount of work one puts into the course. Pank is a very good teacher. He knows and understands finance really well. He helped me out when I had questions, and I would without a doubt take another course with him.
This is a hard class, but worth taking. Pank is one of the best professors at UMaine, and i would definitely take another course from him. You will do well if you go to class, do the HW and ask him questions.
Great professor, if you show that you care about the class and want to do well, he will do his best to help you. Not exactly easy to understand first time through, but usefull and the class showed many realworld examples going on now. "The best stock can go to 0, the worst index will not."
Pank definetly knows his material and he takes great effort in making sure you understand the material. The subjects can definetly be difficult to understand, but with Pank's assistance and purchasing the business calculator on the first day, students should do fine. I could have cared less about finance prior to this class.
Pank is great!
I went into this class having NO interest at all in Finance, but he turned it all around for me. I love it now. He is such a great professor!
Everyone's comments are true! Pank is not only a great professor, but is exremely intelligent. What he does with Excel boggles my mind. The class is not easy by any account; he certainly holds you accountable for knowing the material very well. Hedge fund project was great too!
Good Teacher
The material was tough, but I learned a lot from the class. He is a teacher that truly cares for the success of his students and does everything to help them along the way. You'll walk away having learned a lot, most importantly that, "there is no free lunch."
The best at giving homework which helps so much on tests. It's always targeted so you know exactly what to expect on exams... Understand the homework and you should do well
He is a great professor. He knows what he is talking about when it comes to finance, but also life in general. He will sometimes interrupt the finance topic he is covering and give us a life lesson, and that is what I like the most about him.
If you have to take finance, take it with Pank. I didnt the first time around and it was a big mistake!! Go to the classes, listen to the lecture and practice the assigned homework...in return you will spend time with a great prof who knows what he is talking about and throws in a few laughs along the way.
good class be prepared to study and buy a BUA calculator. Great teacher
One of the best teachers I have ever had. Pank is very bright, great at teach and communicating, very helpful, and makes class interesting. Exams are challenging but too difficult. You will learn a ton for the medium amount of work necessary.
The class is interesting. Exam are very short so be prepared to know everything so you won't miss a single question. Pank is a great teacher, very intelligent and enthusiastic.
One of my top class experiences at UMO. Pank knows his stuff cold, is very friendly, shows new research and even throws in a few laughs during his lectures. The class can be hard and doing the hw for which solutions are given is main. Brilliant, fair, text messaging professor. No free lunch! Go ETFs!!!
EXCELLENT CLASS... WELL-STRUCTURED AND VERY INFORMATIVE. BE PREPARED TO ATTEND ALL CLASSES.
If you like to sit around, watch power point and listen to Pank talk about himself and how great he is, then this class is for you. If you want to learn something, take a different teacher.
Like the previous entry states: this class is WORTHLESS! The teacher just blabs on about himself and flips through PowerPoint slides. The only learning I received was from the textbook, he doesn't teach in class just talks. There is very little to no interaction and if you ask for help he simply says do the homework. Lame. In the end I earned a B+
What I really liked about Pank's class is that you only have to work as hard as you need to learn the material. No graded homework or projects or redundant test questions.
Pank is a great professor, He has more knowledge in the field of Finance than anybody I have ever met. You learn a lot in his classes and he is very helpful. He is a great guy to talk to and even better person to get help with if you are having any difficulties in the class. I highly recommend taking Finance with Pank!
Thought the class was very good. I liked the use of real life examples and feel confident in my finance skills. Was enjoyable and Pank was a great guy.
Good class, just pay close attention to the slides and be able to do every homework problem. Focus on the topic he spends some time on and know those in an out. Overall not a time consuming class but tests arent a breeze either, but are fair.
Pank is a dynamic and enthusiastic professor. He has a dry sense of humor, he's a gas. To do well, read! before class. Do the homework...now relax, let go of control. Pank is all over the place, it's a big field. It's really important to build the portfolio during the semester, it's the foundation that keeps the lectures connected...vital!
Pank is GREAT! definitely a smart guy who knows a great deal about the subject he teaches. basically go to class and know what hes talking about, know how to do the hw problems and youll to fine. really no need to crack open the book except to to the hw
An intelligent and dedicated professor who incorporates a significant amount of technology and psychology in his finance class. He responds to your emails quickly and is very accessible. I was able to perform well on tests by completing the assigned hw, multiple choice questions on website, reading the text and cases, and attending class.
Pank is a very interesting professor, and does a great job of balancing the large class by sticking to the basics, while also spending some time to explore the more complicated/exciting things about finance. Definitely loves what he does, I wouldn't take finance with anyone else
Pank is the man! I loved his class. It can sometimes be a challenge, but if you keep up with the work you will be fine.
Pank may be a tough professor, but you will learn so much! I would recommend a class with him, he is a wealth of information and very excited about what he teaches.
This class was fantastic. Pank is extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic. You get so much more from this class than you ever would from a textbook. The real-world application of the material presented in lecture was the best part, I think. I came out of this course feeling as though I had a solid understanding of the basic principles of finance.
Pank was an unbelievable teacher. To those who say he wasn't helpful are out of their minds, they just didn't seek his help. He was always accomodating and always made time for his students. Obviously some people will say anything when its anonymous. I have nothing but the best to say about Pank as a teacher and a person.
Pank is a nice guy, but I really hated the class. He is hard to understand sometimes, and sometimes the classes are pointless. There were multiple classes where we just looked over his stock portfolios-- yet he takes attendance everyday. I'm glad this class is over!
Outstanding professor is all I can say about Pank! Very knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and understanding of his students. He tests you solely on material you should know. As long as you do the homework, study the powerpoint slides, and ATTEND CLASS (HUGE hints are given in class), you should have no difficulties with the exams. Oh yeah call him Pank!
Pank is the best professor I have encountered in my time at the University of Maine. He is outstanding, caring, and concise in his overall assessment of the course and its students. He is the only professor I know of that is willing to have study sessions on Sundays to guarantee that students will receive the best grades possible.
I am a Senior, and Pank is probably the best teacher I've had at my time at Umaine. He really peaked my interest in Finance, through showing real applications on a daily basis, through charts, graphs, etc. Take this class!
Class was extremely enjoyable. He has a lot of funny sayings and things that go against conventional wisdom that just make class that much more fun. He was always in a good mood and there was never a dull class. A lot of useful practical knowledge from a cool guy.
Class is a lot of work but he guides you through the material- his experience shows. The hedging portfolio is key to this graduate class. Answered all my emails. Friendly and business - if you blow the exam you are done.
Pank makes this historically dull topic very interesting.. he has an abundance of knowledge in the financial world. I highly suggest you take this class.
Panks the best
Great teacher, if you do the homework and go to all the classes you are guaranteed at least a B
Pank is one of the best teachers I have had. This class isn't easy and the topic isn't particularly interesting to me but he made it enjoyable. He is always willing to help his students out, he WANTS you to pass the class!
Pank is an excellent professor! He certainly knows his finance and wants you to know what he knows. As long as classes are attended, slides are studied, and homework problems are practiced, no student should have any problem with this course.
He came highly recommended to me, and I was not disappointed. Amazing teacher and does a wonderful job holding students attention. He understands his students better then any teacher I've met. Simply put, he's fun, honest and straight forward.
When it comes to great professors, Pank is the top of the line. He is dedicated to his work, to his students, and that has made him an incredibly respected professor.
Pank is an extremely gracious, and helpful person. He went out of his way to develop a personal relationship with me, and that really means a lot to a student. He truly cared about my well-being and keeping me motivated. I would recommend Pank to any student interested in taking Finance classes. Pank-Fair, Helpful, Caring.
Pank is an amazing professor who cares about his students. Before attending his class, I was not a fan of finance, but with his great teaching style (and humor) his class was fun. Also, unlike many other classes students will take, if you apply the concepts learned, you will make some serious money!
After talking with Pank multiple times it be came very evident how much he really cared for each student. If I ever had any questions at all he was there to help me through them. Pank gives you all the information and tools necessary to complete this difficult course with a very good overall grade. Simply apply the time necessary to succeed.
Pank makes finance interesting. He starts classes with a market watch and always includes helpful personal finance tips. He is honest, funny, and very passionate about the subject.
Pank is an amazing professor! This subject can be difficult for some, but if you take the time to familiarize yourself with the material and ask questions, Pank's lectures will aid you in success. He shows great concern for his students and has a sense of humor that makes class fun and worth attending. Keep up on the practice homework's 2 Thumbs Up
The class was definitely worth attending. If you read the material and do all of the homework, you should do well. Pank was very helpful if you had questions he would clarify them no problem.
This class takes some time to adjust to, but overall its a good class and not a difficult one to do well in. Do the hw multiple times and study the power points and you will do fine. Pank is very helpful and truly a genuine person.
Definitely take this course with Pank!!! Lectures were interesting and extremely important to attend. Do all of the HW and case studies and you will do well in the course. Don't hesitate to ask him for help in the class if you need it, Pank is by far one the best professors at the University!
Pank is such a great professor... nice guy, funny, and very helpful. I found myself getting confused during class but after visiting him during his office hours and for help before exams, I got a better handle on the material. I recommend doing the homework, reading the chapters before exams.
Professor Aggrawal is an incredible guy, he really helps wherever and whenever he can. His intentions are very clear, to really help his students! His exams are moderate, but with actual studying and paying attention to class very doable. Don't slack and just keep up with lectures and you'll do just fine.~~~~ (Be sure to do all case studies)~~~~
Hard class. GO TO CLASS. Do ALL homework & case studies. Tests are usually direct questions. He moves thru material fast but is always willing to help you out after class. Attendance taken every day. He can be intimidating to ask questions to but he wants his students to do well & will help you, but you need to ask for it & work hard. NO FREE LUNCH
Great Professor! Help students learn a lot about Finance
Pank is an excellent professor who truly cares about his students' performance. Very knowledgeable and passionate about finance. Read the textbook and do the homework questions to do well on exams!! Portfolio project is a great learning experience that helps connect course learings to the real world.
Top notch professor. Knowledgeable about the subject and has a strong eagerness to share his knowledge with students. Has a sincere desire to help students succeed and gain the most from the course.
The best professor Ive had thus far at the university. Incredibly nice guy and all around wonderful professor that shows students how to succeed in his class with a simple formula. Class is straight forward with his lectures and the homeworks that are assigned. Excellent teaching simplifies the harrowing Business Finance course requirement.
Pank is a really great professor, if you can get him for finance your lucky! He's very nice, clear, and direct. Very approachable, and guinely cares about his students performance in class. At first the class may seem overwhelming but as long as you do your hw, case studies and go to class you it will be hard for you not to do well.
His class is a solid graduate experience. Takes time to handle questions and supports his assignments, but be prepared - he will make you work at it. Brings his research into class - obviously a man at the top of his game.
took this class because i heard he gets engineers interested in finance...seriously thinking of taking more finance and math... i don't know of any professor who has his own software - he makes his iOS Returnfinder app free for his students...cracks you up with his tangents...this class ROCKS!
One of the best professors ive had here at Umaine. He genuinely cares about how his students do in the class. The material is not easy but he will answer any questions you have and WANT to help you through it. The man is a true genius and is extremely down to earth. You wont find a better professor at the University of Maine or a funnier one.
Take this class with Pank. He is really helpful, and very enthusiastic about this subject. Probably one of the best professors in the Maine Business School. If you study a little and attend all the classes it is very easy to do well. Buy the BA II finance calculator, it will make life easy.
Very good professor, learned a lot from attending class. Make sure you show up to class because he presents important concepts in a clear fashion that will be able to understand.
His introduction to finance class is WAY above an introduction. Make sure you understand all the basics before showing up on the first day. He's a very nice guy and indicates the slides that will be in the exam (in class). Wouldn't have gotten through the class without the textbook.
I had heard great things about this class but Dr. Agrrawal managed to top it. Every minute of the class was loaded with material and insights into finance. He made coming to class something to look forward to. His exactness and genius sets the bar yet a very friendly and fair professor. The market neutral portfolio, exams, attendance = no slacking.
Dr. Pankaj Agrrawal (Pank for short) gives real-world insight into the world of business finance and is one of those professors that keeps your attention the entire time - even if the class is three hours long! His classes require work and dedication, but you will get a wealth of knowledge out of the time you spend. Great professor, great guy. A+
Pankaj is a very knowledgeable professor and shares his real world experiences with students. He bases the class case studies from his own research and opened our eyes to real world investing. The class engages you mentally and what you get out of it is crucial for the business world.
Great professor not only will you learn a great deal about finance but he also gives you great lessons on life.
I don't think I would have made it through finance had Pank not been my teacher! He genuinely cares about students and is available whenever you need him. He doesn't mind if you email/text him and he'll replay ASAP. I thought I failed the final exam and ended up doing well in the class, probably because he actually taught me information I retained
I loved Professor Pank, he's just awesome. That's about all. I actually wanted to go to class because of his teaching style and jokes.
Pank will teach you everything you need to know about the finance world that you won't find in textbooks. Most of his lessons are more of life lessons than finance but the lessons are extremely useful. If you haven't taken a class with Pank yet you are missing out big time!
Pank was by far one of the most helpful professors that I have had. It is very clear that he is there for his students. He is very up front about what will appear on his exams and lets you know exactly what he wants from you. He knows how teach and does it very well.
Amazing, inspirational, absolutely the most knowledgeable professor I've had so far. Changed my outlook on life, finance majors I seriously recommend taking Pank. Homework is optional, but is extremely helpful in preparing for the exams.
Class meeting weren't profitable at all, but easy if you study the slides. Great guy too.
Professor Agrrawal is an exceptional teacher. To earn an A you'll probably need to study the homework carefully and pay close attention in class. In the end, this course was one in which I learned a great deal about a topic I previously had no knowledge of. If I had the opportunity to enroll in another of his classes, I certainly would.
Pank is the man! His classes are always entertaining and hes very clear on what will show up on the exams. Hes also very understanding about your personal issues I missed a boatload of classes because of interviews in NYC and Boston, and since he worked in finance before going into academia, he gets it. Finance majors: take Pank!
His stock market game and discussions of new market events, such as crypto and got me tuned into the class. Very knowledgeable in the subject and teaches it with clarity and a round of humor. Gives great feedback, but missing lectures will surely get you into trouble. A truly inspirational professor! His research tangents are not to be missed.
I am typically a really good student but taking with Finance with Pank was brutal. He is very vague and only talks about specific stocks in class but the tests were totally different. Unfortunately I didn't pick up on his teaching style (what there was of one) fast enough but be prepared to teach yourself a lot. Grade is based on tests.
This class helped me develop my financial side of business studies in a text and case book method. Material is organized but of different types, including videos. Has great grasp of topic and takes time to answer questions. Still using the hedged portfolio setup that is part of class. Excellent professor.
Dr. Agrrawal is one of the best professors at the MBS. If you want to pass this class with a good grade, I would really recommend reading the book before each class. I would also recommend doing the homework and cases over and over until you know exactly what you're doing and why. Make sure you know how to use the finance calculator.
TAKE HIS CLASS. Most inspirational professor in the Maine Business School, has written numerous papers and incredibly knowledgeable. Pank truly wants you to succeed, his objectives are clear. Grade: 3 exams, 10% attendance. Diligent student + proactive studying A Made BUA 350 extremely inspiring, prepared me for my summer finance internship.
Attendance is mandatory but the lectors are not useful at all. He doesn't teach you anything useful in class because he never actually stays on the topic at hand. I did do really well in his class but I taught myself everything independently using the book and slides. Be prepared to put in lots of work independently or you won't do well
One thing that I liked about Dr. Pank is that he was easily accessible outside of class if you seemed him out, we would have chats and exchange books on finance. He also gives you the reality of the finance world that I think any serious 20/21 year old would really appreciate. I really like the Black Swan, so far!
He is a wonderful professor with so much wisdom. Has lots to share about whats going on in the world and every class is different as he will go on some tangents, but he is aware of it. You will have to put the time in outside of class to really learn the material if you do not find finance intuitive. If you reach out he is willing to help.
Hes a great professor really takes time to make sure the student understands the concepts... willing to work with you as long as you respect his classroom and frequently in attendance. By far one of the best at Maine he needs a raise ! Has great insight on more than just the course he teaches. Highly recommended
Professor Pank was an amazing professor. He cares a lot about your learning, especially real world scenarios. He talks a lot more about the stock market than the book material because theres far more learning in applying the material than just reading it.
He was very lenient with grading procedures during the unexpected changes this semester. He also clearly explains what is expected, and taught things that can be used for the rest of our lives.
Pank was an amazing professor. Very good about homework and answering questions. He was very caring and always was willing to work with you. The class was a little challenging as I am not the best with finance but if it's something you enjoy and are willing to learn you will pass easily. Read the chapters and go to the lectures to enjoy his passion
Masterfully blends his deep knowledge with a level of humility and meeting the student where they are. As I finish my MBA, I did not come across a professor who made themselves so available on nights/weekends while it appeared they genuinely loved their job as an educator. There will be work, but he inspires you to do it. 10/10 would take again!
Pank's teaching style is more of a self amused rant on what ever subject he decides to opine on that day. There is also a completely subjective form of class participation that I have yet to figure out how is calculated. I would stay away from this professor at all costs.
Dr. Pank is one of the better professors I've had at UMaine. I would recommend this course to anyone. The amount of effort you put into the course will be reflected in your grade. Pank is one of the hardest working professors and cares so much about his students. Take this class with Pank, you won't be sorry you did!
Pank is an extraordinary, caring professor with invaluable industry expertise and an unparalleled commitment to student success.
Just an awesome professor who cares a lot about his field and his students. Very personable and makes going to class very enjoyable. He remembers his students and wants to see them succeed.
Empfehlenswerter Kurs!
Dr. Pank is the mvp. Has gift for explaining finance with intuition and current markets. Built a AI bot just for this class that made more sense of the homework and equations. Pay attention he has a wicked sense of humor. Collects assignments regularly.
Great teacher and very knowledgeable, but a solid 10-20% of the grade is ambiguous and untraceable.
