This teacher can not teach, plain and simple. The class is Systems Administration, and all of our assignments are to write programs in java that have nothing to do with Systems (ex. create a random number generator). The class average on his tests/quizes is 35% and blames the students.
This guy sucks!!! The class is introductory level and he expects us to be at a professinal level. Nothing he says is clear and he changes his mind on what he wants way too often. Avoid this guy!
He tries to be a good teacher but he sucks at it. He doesn't even know what he wants from his students. He loves giving pop quizzes to kill your grade. His class is pretty easy as long as you attend every session. By the way, he is very lazy.
I hated having this class because he never gave us any instruction and just expected everyone to understand what he was saying as is. He was late to class everyday, very disrespectful to those who ask him questions, and thoroughly unprepared. Although it was easy to pass, I didn't like him or his teaching style.
This guy is the WORST! He has an accent & makes him so unclear, he doesn't know what he wants! He assigns one thing then changes it. He gives pop quizes & his lectures are soooo boring! So when the quizes come u r screwed! The final & mid-term
To the person who said he expects professional quality, you are a jackass. If you can't operate Microsoft Word you don't belong in college!! He is sometimes difficult to undrestand and goes off on tangents, lectures are boring, but if you can operate a computer the class is simple, step by step instructions in the lab book, how hard is that!!
It is a discredit to CSUS students for Dr. Petratos to be teaching at the campus. I don't understand how I got an "A" as I didn't deserve it. He's a nice guy and I felt sorry for him many times, but that doesn't excuse his inability to engage his students, enunciate clearly, stay on task, and actually teach the class material. I dread taking him ag
When I began this class I thought that it would be hard, but we would get ample help from the professor. However, Dr. Petratos was flexible but he spent most of lecture talking really fast and down at the table infront of him. Wiithout the assistance of his TA Skippy I might not have somehow, I still don't know how, I recieved a B in the course.
I cannot understand how this profess could recieve either a job at this university or even possibly tenure. Dr. P might know his stuff, but his delivery style SUCKS. If you like Power Point and a professor that reads it to you and also puts it on the net, then he is the person for you. I especially didn't like the fact that he read to the podium
His class was so boring, but easy. I did not learn anything, I do not even know what he was talking about in his lectures. All he did was write on the board notes.
Dr. Petratos is the nicest teacher, he's willing to help you and he makes the class easy to understand. Everyone should take his class. If you think he's a bad teacher then you're just an idiot
This class was really a waste of time. I didn't learn anything, only how to use the program Netcracker. Its really easy, but I wish I could have learned something. Don't buy the textbook, you wont even look through it
GREAT NETWORKING CLASS! ALL LABS AND TERM PROJECTS ARE BASED ON OPNET NETWORK SIMULATOR. WE EXECUTED VARIOUS SCENARIOS IN VARIOUS ENVIRONMENTS. THIS CLASS IS REALLY COOL AS I CAN PURSUE MY OPNET NETWORK CERTIFICATION! AFTER I GRADUATE I'LL BE A NETWORK ENGINEER.
This is an MBA class with technology on the cutting edge. The class is based on our own business idea of building a new high tech start up company. We prepare and present Mini Cases and the business plan of the start up. We also travel to one or more International Conferences.
Great teacher who cares about his students. Learn as much or as little as you want, it all depends on what you want to take from the class. Professor definitely knows his stuff and you can learn a lot from him. Just make sure to attend class, turn in your labs and use the study guide for the exams and you will be fine.
Great Professor. Take advantage of all the course material, textbook, and the extra credit assignments for a positive learning experience. Make sure you have all work turned in and graded at the end of the semester and you should be great.
This class was a breeze! The professor is such a nice guy, he helps whenever you need it. Computers are his love and he shares interesting new things with the class. You learn a lot if you do the work and will pass with an A if its done by the end of the semester.
Only get the Excel 2007 book, you'll need it for the labs. Lectures with powerpoints that you can get from Blackboard. Doesn't take roll, half the class didn't come. 1 test, exact questions from the study guide. Cancelled the final and the last 2 weeks of class! Great guy, but except for the Excel labs didn't learn anything.
Easy A, didn't learn a thing except for how to use Excel better, but better than any of the other teachers teaching CIS 3700. Don't buy the textbook, just the Excel book. One test, cancelled final, Excel projects, some in groups. Attendance not taken. Really nice guy.
You will not learn much in this class. You will be bored to death in this class because he reads the powerpoints word for word and they are straight from the textbook. With that said, Dr. Petratos is awesome. The class may have been the easiest class I have ever taken. There was 1 test, 50 MC ?s and a study guide with 50 facts on it. Take the class
CIS 2000 This class was awesome as I took an exam the first day and passed out of the class. I wish more classes were like that
Easiest class I have ever taken in my life. Only buy the Excel book you need it for labs. Homework is extremely easy if you know how to follow step-by-step, he is willing to help during lab sections. 1 exam. 6 lab assigments, 3 group labs and one group presentation. No final exam. Attendance optional but you need to print them out and hand in.
Excited about taking systems or network administration? Want to learn about them from an experienced professor. Well too bad, as cool as a person Petratos is he cannot teach and you will leave the class just as you entered it, without a clue on either of those subjects.
Awesome professor! Extremely helpful and understanding to students throughout course. I did not open any of the textbooks or ebooks required. I took him for an online class and couldn't have asked for a better prof. Responds quickly to students on Blackboard. Only setback of course was the training projects which are easy but time consuming. But it def beats going to a 4 hour lecture/lab on campus. Overall, it was an easy A in my opinion since he also offered a lot of extra credit. Take him!!
Easy class.
Excellent class and excellent teacher who assists your learning experience with in depth networking knowledge which prepares you for industry CompTIA Network+ and Security+ certifications. I could not have achieved certifications without Dr P and his class.
Excellent class and excellent teacher who assists your learning experience with in depth systems administration knowledge which prepares you for industry CompTIA A+ and Linux+ certifications. I could not have achieved certifications without Dr P and his class.
Excellent online class& excellent teacher who assists your online learning experience with specific, clear, step-by-step instructions, assignments &training videos which show you exactly what you need to do. I took class twice earning credit for 2 different academic programs. If allowed I'd take it 3rd time. Excellent class& excellent teacher.
Excellent online class and excellent teacher. Very helpful teacher provides clear, specific easy to understand and follow instructions to complete your homework successfully. After my positive online learning experience I am taking all online classes given by this excellent teacher. Excellent class.
Online class. It is a really easy class. All homework and exams are at your leisure, and the due date for everything is by the end of the semester. Do not slack off, though. You do not want to be doing all exams and assignments the last week of school!!
Great Professor, class was online based. Had a lot of work(easy) but worth it ( Received two certifications).
The online networking class was awful. It is basically just a publisher's program that's the class with some website called "TestOut." The grading was in question for many students and questions asked were answered differently for every student. Syllabus didn't match the class. I hope future students get a live class instead of online.
Online work is easy enough. If you are taking the class in person, as opposed to the online class, DONT SHOW UP TO THE LECTURES. He literally goes over the online slides for 40 minutes and then shows you a 10 minute TED talk to fill in the rest of the time. If you do the homework and tests, you'll pass no problem. Easy but frustrating.
Used outdated syllabus. Not sure he even graded the BB assignments. The "study guides" were literally all the answers to the exams, in order! A lot of homework & quizzes but you get unlimited attempts. The teacher wrote the textbook for the class- you don't need it at all. The homework program has its own chapters to read anyway. Class was a joke.
So much homework (plus outside volunteer work)! There is no due date for assignments but the workload is heavy. His syllabus is not up to date. Make sure you do the assignments and you'll be fine.
There was a lot of work invloved in this class while also doing volunteering work. There are two exams but he provides study guides that gives you the answers to the exams. You cannot fail the exams. There are also quizzes but they have unlimited tries. The work is doable.
If you are taking this class online its great if you arent dont show up for lectures all he does is read straight off the powerpoint. You have until the end of the semester to complete assignments (3 tries per module give you the highest grade), a test for each program and training. Access is the hardest in my opinion.
All the work is online. First day of class he told us we didnt have to show up and all the homework is due on the last day of class. Dont wait until the last minute to do all the work and dont go to class because the lectures are just him reading off slides word for word. Lots of work but easy A if you do it right.
Took online over summe, was was easy but a little time consuming. 2 exams on blackboard, you have to do at least 15 hrs of community service and write about it. His syllabus makes it feel alot more overwhelming than it is. Uses Mindtap for chapter work, super easy. The study guides he gives you for exams are word-for-word what will be on the tests.
Great teacher and great class!
Great class and very good teacher. Syllabus is overwhelming but when I started the assignments they are much easier than they seem initially.

Amazing class and superior teacher. Syllabus seems way too demanding but teacher makes it easy and assignments are a lot easier than i thought initially.
Since this is an online class, you won't have any interaction with the Professor. All assignments are due at the end of the semester, but don't wait till the end because they're time consuming. If you ever need help go to the tutoring center, and they'll be able to help. It's an easy A class once you know how to do all the assignments.
Awesome class and great teacher. Syllabus seems far too demanding but when I started the assignments they were a lot easier than I thought.
Excellent class and great teacher. Syllabus seems way too demanding but when I started the assignments they were a lot easier than I thought.
Great class and great teacher. Syllabus seems extremely demanding but when I started the assignments they were a lot easier than I thought.
Very Interesting class and great teacher. Syllabus seems far too demanding but when I started the assignments they were a lot easier than I thought.
Very interesting class and very excellent teacher. Systems administration is a very useful course to learn the necessary skills for the employment market. Syllabus initially seems exceedingly demanding but when I started doing the assignments they were a lot easier than I thought at first.
Excellent course and caring teacher. This is an advanced course in Linux system administration learning information security methodologies which enables me to earn industry standards certification. Very interesting and very useful course.
No attendance required, no books, no quizzes, no in class exams. Your WHOLE grade is based on your completion of Network Pro cert. No point in going to class he reads word for word off the slides and doesn't share any life experiences with you at all. I went to about 4 classes and got an A. Final is online and taken outside of class.
Professor was always available for my questions and helpful with my queries when I was puzzled. The added bonus I gained from this class in addition to in depth network administration knowledge was an industry standard certification for network administration which will be extremely valuable for job hunting in a competitive employment market.
Professor was very helpful with all my questions whenever I had difficulties and was always accessible to assist me and provide me with solutions. In a very competitive employment market this course is very valuable as I was able to also earn an industry standard certification in Network Administration.
I think this is very important course for getting a job.
Professor is very helpful. Very useful to have when graduate. I like the professor.
Professor is very helpful, always available he literally responded to all my emails within 24 hrs or faster & we skyped to resolve my Q. An excellent class that prepares you well for the industry with up to date course material on wireless networking, virtualization, cloud computing using all the newest networking technologies with hands on labs.
Very helpful Professor always available responded to my emails in 24 hrs or faster and to help with my questions he skyped to resolve issue. Gives good feedback and he is accessible outside class. Class seems intimidating with many exams but once you get started the trainings are very helpful to pass the exams. I highly recommend this class.
Very helpful Professor always responded to my questions and is accessible outside class responding to my emails in 24 hrs or faster. He even skyped me to resolve one of my questions. Excellent class and excellent Professor. I highly recommend this network administration class to all University students.
Go in positive and you will learn and have fun too. The professor answers questions by email quickly.
Easy A but don't bother showing up to class. Assignments are online and easy. All the assignments are due at the end of the semester. Would recommend doing the assignments as they are scheduled in the syllabus since it's easier. He made access assignments optional when we transitioned online(COVID19).
He only spoke to the class three times the entire semester. In other words, this professor got the bag while seeming MIA the entire semester. Other than that, CENGAGE is required for this course and that program is a headache to use. Get ready to get simple questions wrong because that program is not the best.
Dont fall for most of the copypasted reworded reviews here, Petratos was nowhere to be seen for his students as all the help/work you do is through the cengage software. I only talked to him a few times asking questions and just said read the syllabus even though I have! As for the class its pretty easy & doable, just dont expect him to help
Professor Panos is an amazing professor. His lectures and explanation is really thorough. He takes time time to review and share lab assignments if you don't understand. You need to take time to read and understand the programming concepts. Effort and time plays an important role throughout this class.
In his online class, he doesn't post anything and does not make it clear what we are even supposed to be doing in the class. Does not communicate well when asking what we need to do for the class. Would not take again... at least for an online class.
This course was asynchronous and it was through an online program called TestOut LabSim. As long as you do all the homework, labs, and practice test questions and study for the final; you should be able to pass this course. He responds pretty quickly to emails if you ever have questions.
Prof is very responsive and helpful. Always available every time I asked him a question. Prof answered all my questions. Treats me with respect and he really cares for my troubles. Responds to emails within 24 hours and always cares to find a resolution for me. I really appreciate the time he dedicates to resolve all my issues and help me out.
I had no idea about computers I am an adult learner so I thought this course would be very hard. Prof made it easy as he is always available to answer my questions. Prof is very accessible outside class cares for my clear understanding to resolve all my troubles. Note that students who did well A give good reviews. Drop students give bad review.
I am a mature student as well with no prior computer experience. Assumed this is a very hard course. Prof made it easy always accessible even outside class, answers questions and emails promptly and cares to resolve my troubles. Definitely I am taking this class again as an elective and I am also taking Prof's all other classes.
I took this class over the semester and the course seemed very intimidating. However, Professor Petratos is not a heavy grader. There's a book that we supposedly need, but we didn't even use it. The only book that was in use was the one on cengage. I also did not have to pay for the Cengage either.
For this class you do all your work on TestOut Network Pro(it's pretty pricey) which consists of labs and practice tests, then you'll just have to take the final exam and if you pass you'll get a certificate. The professor cares about their students and will help you out in whatever.
This class wasn't bad except for the fact that every single assignment was on Cengage. He also shows up late ever day and reads straight off the slides for lectures. Would not recommend if you need actual instruction in a class but great if you like just online learning.
Does this professor even exist?? Hasn't posted anything in canvas for the entire semester and takes forever to respond to emails. When he does respond it's very short and unhelpful. He truly does the bare minimum.
Not a good professor at all. He always shows up late to class and just reads from an online textbook for his lectures. All of the assignments are on a separate platform that you have to pay for. If you genuinely want to learn, then this class is not for you. However, he's good if you're looking for an easy A without having to attend class.
Uses software outside of school system, so no support from technology lab or instructor when system crashes. Little to no interaction with instructor. Check with him constantly for completed lab assignments months before semester ends. You won't be able to easily reach him except online mostly.
I don't understand how this professor is employed. He reads off of a syllabus word for word, which it seems he did not make himself. I know the Network+ certification is important. But why do I pay $1k for a class to simply tell me "Go take and pay $150 for this certification and if you pass it you pass the class"? Please get a better teacher Stan.
Honestly one of the worst professors at Stanislaus does not help you whatsoever. Everything is on CompTIA which each module takes so long to complete in a week. VERY disorganized structure of the class honestly leaves you with a lot of unanswered questions. Wish the best of luck whoever takes this class its like he doesn't exist!!
I would not recommend this class at all. The assignments are boring and tedious, you learn nothing from them. The professor was frequently late to class and when he did show up he would just read from the textbook we already have online. There is no reason to show up for lecture other than to sit there on your phone.
The course is done online through CertMaster- the textbook isn't necessary. You'll do labs and quizzes throughout the course. For the final, we had the choice to either do 3 exams on canvas (50 questions each, 50 mins each) or a "competency" assessment through CertMaster which was 2 hours consisting of virtual lab work. Prof is almost nonexistent.
