Excellent prof! He goes out of his way to answer questions and demonstrate examples. His tests are very fair and are based solely on lecture and textbook content. No surprises, tricks, or any of that stuff. Expectations for the paper are laid out very clearly and theres no reason you can't do well if you follow them. His class is highly recommended
Really accommodating if you're clear about your needs and you give him enough notice. Lecture notes are very clear and detailed.
Great Prof! Very fair, very kind. Tries to help where he can. Don't skip class, as he is a good prof. It may take a few weeks for him to hit his stride, it is worth it. Would highly recommend
Nice guy. He has this clumsy sense of humor, which can be very cute and amusing sometimes. Finds ways to make the material interesting. Happy with this course.
Does a good job explaining tough concepts, moves quickly through lecture, keeps it interesting most of the time. Lectures are easy to follow. Minimal homework. I never missed a lecture. If you pay attention you should pass.
His tests are impossible. He makes his assignments clear and says he is a fair easy marker yet he fails easily and he looks for every single little detail to fail you. I would not take this professor again or this course. Terrible.
Goes over the lecture way too fast. His class averages are fairly low and his tests are very hard. Too much detail to know for a test.
His lectures are terrible, he goes through his slides fair too quickly and doesn't review anything you learn. The midterms were terrible and there was way too much content he wanted the class to know. Do not recommend.
Cares that his students understand the concepts, lectures are well thought out.
Really sweet/nerdy guy. Only complaint is that he told the class the textbook was optional on the 1st day so no one bought it. Yet he flies through the slides and doesn't post detailed notes of the chapters so people have a hard time listening to his explanations/examples b/c they're trying to take notes to be able to review. Good lectures tho
Not a great lecturer, seemed really nervous and his voice tends to crack a lot Overall a nice guy and definitely tries hard to help students learn
Textbook wasn't mandatory but you'll most likely need it because his lectures are not the best. He goes very fast during lectures and his powerpoint slides can be somewhat confusing. Pay attention to the examples and concepts discussed in class. Review textbook and lecture notes and you'll be fine.
He was really soft spoken, he just reads off the slides and goes really fast, I barely went to class. It's all just memorization and really dull. You need the textbook if you don't go to class. One really good thing about him is that he posts notes online on the chapters, follow those notes and you will definitely pass the class they're so great.
By far one of the best professor I had at Ryerson university he is an amazing lecturer. His midterm and final are very clear and fair. Attend the lectures and you do great in the course.
He's a really great prof - but only if you pay attention in his lectures. His lectures basically covers you for all the tests and exams (I barely looked at the textbook for his class). He's a really tough marker though and his rubrics for assignments aren't very specific but if you reach out to him, he's really understanding and will help you out!
Paulo is a good prof. Class is not mandatory but to succeed i recommend going to his class since his examples are often on tests. Interesting content and he really knows what he is talking about.
Paolo is a nice person, but not the best teacher. Get ready to read on your own. He does not post the slides and he mainly tests on those. His lectures are boring.
Probably one of the worst profs I have had. Reads right off the presentation, lots of lip smacking, voice cracks. presentation always boring. tests on specifics that are irrelevant to the main concepts. Avoid if possible.
If you are unable to get a good night's sleep, bring your pillow on your way to his class. Lectures are boring is what I am trying to say.
Paolo is an amazing prof. His class is the only class I can't seem to miss willingly because it is very interesting. He is very passionate when approaching topics and always sums up the lecture through notes after class. I genuinely enjoyed his class a lot. Tough marker but very fair. You'll get out of the class what you put in.
He is a great, caring prof. I found the content to be very interesting, and he knows what he is talking about. Very easy to get A's.
I don't get why people give Ammirante a hard time. This guy is great! Those who complain about poor grades in his class are the ones who sit at the back with their faces plastered to their phones. His voice can be low at times, but his lectures give you all the info you need with plentiful examples! Highly recommend!
His lectures are a bit dry but I highly recommend that you go to lectures cause his slides are really confusing if you don't and the textbook didn't really help me out because most of the topics discussed weren't in there. The assignment was pretty easy and the midterms and exam were pretty easy since their based on the lecture slides.
He does not post lectures. His test questions are extremely specific.
This professor's method of teaching is unclear, unprepared and unorganized. the instructions on how to do the written assignment were really confusing. Also, during exam review, he said to focus on both textbook and lecture material, however, the midterm was all specific lecture based material. literally wasted all that money on the textbook.
Great prof. We had a very short assignment and 3 multiple choice tests. He only tests you on things discussed in class so having to do other readings isn't necessary. Explains concepts very clearly and keeps lectures interesting and short.
One of my favourite profs, he is soft spoken, very artistic, kind and very clear about what he wants from you in class, tests and exams. This class has 2 midterms, 1 final and 1 take home assignment, and all of them are super easy if you attend classes and pay attention. The subject is extremely interesting. Overal enjoyed every class, easy A. :)
Paolo is nice but does not give good feedback. He does not stress the use of textbook as mandatory but uses it a lot on tests. Lectures are super heavy and tests are multiple choice but super hard and specific. There are 3 tests because of how much content there is. I studied for a week straight and ended up failing the first test
Strict but fair and is really nice. Tests are multiple choice with a short answer section. He tells you what you need to look out for on the test and what to anticipate. For my course the textbook really wasn't necessary as long as you go to lectures (very important.. lots of good info) and study off the slides.
Pros: Paolo cares about student success. Cons: Those are the only pros. He is a very dull and boring professor who reads off the slides for the most part, but also talked about information not on the slides often enough to make it worth staying for the entire three-hour lecture. Overall: Not the best prof, but far from the worst prof as well.
I enjoyed his class especially considering I had no real interest in psychology and design and only took this course based on my schedule. I found going to class important because a lot of the powerpoints will be unclear without it. He doesn't make you buy a textbook or expect you to do most readings, tests based on lectures.
Not terrible, just needs to sound more happy about what he's teaching. He won't post notes b4 class so you can't spoil his brain games, they're also posted in the oddest format which can be annoying if you want to print them. Studying off slides can give a 70, I skipped 2nd half of his lec's and didn't miss out on anything that wasn't in the slides
If you like science, a little bit of math at times, and are good at memorizing then this is the course for you. Paolo is a very nice person, but his tests are very different then whats on his slides/ the textbook. He focuses a lot on the examples and experiments. Its a lot of content, and if this course was not mandatory I wouldnt have taken it
Hes not a good Prof, I advise you to take AP psychology if your high school has it and take the AP exam to get rid of it. If you dont have it then take it in Chang ryerson summer school. Horrible teacher and cant teach. Super quite. Dont listen to these other people are saying.
Almost everything on the exams is on the slides. He will ask about videos or different experiments he showed in class so make sure you know what they are. Maybe if he was more enthusiastic about what he was teaching, then his class would be better. Overall, he was okay, not the worst but also not the very best.
Sure his lectures arent the most interesting, but every piece of testable information is on the notes he posted. He will ask questions based on the videos watched in class so rewatch those. The written assignment he marks really hard and even the smartest people at most get mid 80s on it. If you understand the notes, the tests will be very easy
Dr. Ammirante explains concepts very clearly and uses many examples during lecture. I would highly recommend going to class because he explains the info on his slides in more detail. His exams are also very fair, but the grading criteria for the written assignment could have been more clear. Overall, great prof!
I really don't know why he gets such a bad rep, I thought Paolo was a delight. Ya his voice is kind of monotone, but he doesn't test on anything not on his slides, he is kind, his tests and assignments are very fair and graded fairly. I really liked his class a lot, he explains well, gives heaps of examples, and all-around cares about his students.
Paolo is a very good professor, his lectures are very interesting. He will tell you what is expected on tests, and writing assignment is not hard at all. I 100% recommend.
Great professor! The content is exciting for those interested in psychology. He is open to answering questions during lecture, office hours, and through email which is always a plus! Keep up with the content and you will be good!
Paulo is nice prof, great to talk to and very helpful if you need help with an assignment. However, he does not try to make his lectures interesting at all. Make sure to study off the slides and the textbook. He also asks about videos that were shown in class.
Midterms and exam are directly from the notes he provides, I really only used the textbook for the assignments. Make sure to attend lectures as he emphasizes topics that you will be tested on such as videos and specific experiments. His lectures can be a bit dry sometimes but you can tell he genuinely cares about helping you succeed in the class!
Awesome teacher and class. Show up, take notes and you won't be disappointed Best prof I've had at Ryerson
Took this class thinking it would boost my GPA. I was wrong. put in the work to do well. Paolo is decent but did not provide enough materials for the students to do well
First year at Ryerson and this is one of my favourite classes! His D2L course shell is organized as well as his videos and he gives really helpful examples to understand psych concepts. He cares about his students and always asks us for feedback about his methods and does his best to adjust.
Paolo is definitely one of my favourite teachers at Ryerson! He makes really relatable connections with psychology and real life. He cares a lot about his students.
I personally hate psychology but Paolo is a decent professor. I had Paolo for intro (first year) for adult (2nd year) psychology. He is a very fair professor, and is passionate about his lectures. You must attend his lectures to do well in his classes. I only read the textbook if I was unsure about a topic otherwise the exams are from the lectures
Ammirante was great! He doesn't test you on anything you don't learn which is great and he was always approachable for extra help. He loved showing off his dog as well which was a bonus. Just make sure you watch the lectures and take notes and you'll be fine.
I had the pleasure of having Paolo as my thesis advisor and, in my experience working with him, I found that he is very dedicated, helpful and knowledgable. He always took the time to work through things with me using a kind, supportive approach. I would absolutely work with him again!
Class is structured in 1-2 hours of asynchronous videos and 1 hour synchronous lectures. Textbook is not really needed as everything will be on his lectures (Probably only if you needed further clarification on something). 3 exams and 2 SMALL papers. Make notes on his live lectures and videos as it can and will pop up on exams. Highly recommend!
Really nice prof. Very concise and clear. Also has a really cute dog.
I have never met or seen a professor like this in my entire life. He expects you to have the same specific examples that he thought of for the written assignments and short answers on the exam (Written assignmenttotal: 25%, Exam 25%). Not everyone can read your mind to find out what examples I need to use because it supposed to in your "own work."
Paolo was the average teacher, not mean at all and pretty straight forward. He has an adorable dog he would show on camera sometimes. The material was easy and everything you need are on his videos. The tests were also straight forward, the assignments were iffy but not worth that much.
Dr. Ammirante was a great prof and does a fantastic job of describing lecture material, though the semester was online he did as much as he could in order to make it an enjoyable semester. Pretty cool guy and was a joy to be apart of his psych class.
I loved having Dr. Ammirante for an intro psych course. He is super fair and straightforward, nothing is worth over 25% and his prerecorded lectures were always full of really good examples. You get exactly what you expect, nothing outside lectures. Any live classes were for questions and a recap of what was learned. I would love to have him again!
Very nice, really want to help students to achieve good grades. The lectures are prerecorded, but they are long, you really need to take time to watch them. His online class are discussions which are not recorded, its nice to go, but you can still pass if you don't go.
I have had Dr. Ammirante previously in another course, so I already knew what to expect going into this one, and I continued to thoroughly enjoy his teaching. The layout of the course was 3 exams (not cumulative, so based on 3-4 chapters each!) and a written assignment (which was straightforward, example answers were provided). Overall great class!
He is very knowledgeable and writes very fair exams. If you listen to his lectures carefully and study the notes you will get an A+ easily
There were three tests, which were super straightforward (MC & SA questions) and you could easily ace it if you just listened to his recorded lectures. The written assignment was a little time-consuming but also fairly easy. He was a strict marker on the assignment but otherwise this course was great!
He is such a caring and helpful prof! His midterms and exams were super easy as long as you study the slides. It is also super helpful to go to class and ask him questions. He gives good examples and makes the content interesting!
Amazing prof!! As long as you watch his lectures and understand the material it's an easy A. Don't even bother reading the textbook as he covers everything you need to know in his lectures. Highly recommend.
I had him for PSY102. He is an amazing prof. There are usually 4-6 lecture videos for a week. But the content is very easy to understand. Two assignments in this course are not very hard. Do not need to read textbooks for his exams. Just make sure you understand his examples and the slides. Lastly, his exams are easy and straightforward.
Paolo is a great professor. Exams are fair and relies on examples used during class. The class is not very hard and was enjoyable. Only have to do two assignments and 3 small exams, a lot of time is given for each. Lectures are pre-recorded, but only last about an hour-hour half. No textbook needed which is great, I passed only using the videos.
very accommodating, gave multiple extensions if asked, sometimes could be very general about things (textbook is helpful but not necessary), goes over each weeks content briefly and tries to answer most questions people have. Assignments are average in difficulty and found him to be a fair but somewhat difficult marker.
Professor Ammirante is very good at explaining complex concepts and uses the synchronous discussion classes to go over content that may not have been understood as well as explore new content in a perfect balance. He is a fair grader and clearly presents criteria needed for the two assignments. Pre-recorded lectures are long, so be prepared.
Great prof, all assignments and tests were fairly made and graded. If you just watch the lectures you will pass, textbook is not needed (I didn't use the textbook and still got a good grade). Overall, loved this course and I hope to take more psy courses with Paolo.
This professor has to be one of the most engaging professors I have ever had. Even through the super inconvenient pandemic and online lectures, he still managed to make lectures interesting and you can tell he really cares about helping students understand the subject matter.
AMAZING professor!!! His lectures are so fun to watch, he provides so many examples and explains concepts very clearly. His tests and assignments are very fair.
Idk if it was the course structure or material or the prof but I had a great experience. The prof teaches good and the uses class as a question and answer session. Everything can be learned from the lectures and notes that he posts. Don’t rlly have to read the textbook.
Tbh took this class as an easy elective but it is not that much of a bird course. The prof is super nice and teaches well but you need to actually watch all the lectures and study well for the tests. If you're not a good writer (business major) the assignment will take some time.
I took this course as an elective and I really liked it. He's a really good prof and explains everything very clearly and in simple language. I would 100% take one of his psych classes again.
Very nice guy with engaging lectures. The exams are quite challenging for an intro course, even after studying hard for them I would be given questions that I would not be able to answer no matter the effort I put into studying. His TAs are very tough markers so be aware of that. Overall a very educational course despite the surprising difficulty.
You may think this is an intro course but don't be fooled. Some questions on the exam are not even taught & difficult. The TA's don't know what their doing in terms of grading & feedback. Attend his discussions & watch the short YouTube videos as you'll need them for exams.
Amazing proff, engaging lectures and fair assignments/exams. As long as you put in work, there is no reason why you shouldn't do well! I would love to take a class with him again. :)
He's a very soft-spoken guy, so if you're in a big hall and the mic isn't working, be aware of that! He really has a kind heart and wants to make people feel comfortable and informed, which I really appreciated. The class was interesting, although I found myself distracted because of its structure as a massive lecture. But overall, very lovely guy!
Easily, my favourite class!! He's very kind and his exams are based on his lectures, so if you're able to learn from your notes and his notes, he's a great prof for you. He rarely told us to read the textbook and is always open to talk about anything you're confused about during breaks or office hours.
Amazing and kind prof!!! I've taken 3 courses with him so far and he has not disappointed. His exams are fair and the content + examples he provides are super interesting! :)
He is not caring in the slightest he was not professional when I asked for help nor was he understanding of any issues.
An organized and knowledgeable prof. However, he has very little patience for students and is resistant to help any students. His tests are very difficult (my class' test average were always below 65%) where he tests on the little details he mentions in class not on the material discussed and explained on the slides. He is simply rude to students.
Amazing lectures, participation is not mandatory but HELPs a lot, is a quick responder, lowkey caring, tests are a little bit hard because they require understanding of the material so memorizing doesn't work. Tip: if you are unsure about anything in the assignments, ASK him, he'll give you hints
very pog teacher. go to lectures and u will pass!
Great professor. The lectures for PSY102 are a bit lengthy (3 hours), but he gives a few 10 minute breaks every class, which is nice. Exams have been pretty straight forward and easy if you review the material and actually pay attention. He is a caring professor, and you can tell he thoroughly enjoys what he teaches. Take PSY102 with Dr. Ammirante!
Nice and understanding guy. Clarifies content when asked. Kind of hard for an intro course. He says the textbook isn't necessary but I'd get it because it will help with exams. Go to class because he explains the content on his slides more thoroughly. Definitely knows his stuff and does his best to keep it interesting.
Dr. Ammirante is a very thorough professor when it comes to PSY105. Albeit the lectures are long and Dr. Ammirante is soft spoken by nature, attending them will be a great asset to your exams. His exams are extremely fair and cover specifically what was said in lectures and slide decks, so studying those should get you a passing mark no problem.
He keeps the lectures interesting (or at least tries to) and clarifies anything when needed. He is very understanding and a fair grader. He says the textbook is not needed, but it provides help if you want to read it (he usually provides a free online version of the textbook). In my opinion, you will do just fine without the extra textbook reading.
Lectures can be dry, but he does a good job at at least trying to be interesting. Tests are difficult, but not impossible with a decent study habit and lecture attendance.
The content and level of difficulty of the exams felt a bit advanced for a lower liberal course. He's very soft-spoken which can lull you to sleep, and he only reads from his slides. His explanations and even examples aren't clear and I'd often google terms and concepts because it was explained better.
Professor Ammirante is an amazing psychology teacher! The textbook is optional but attending lectures was helpful because he explains study examples very well and answers questions clearly. He is accommodating and truly wants his students to succeed! I'd recommend him any day.
Currently taking the course and would not recommend. His lectures put you to sleep and the slides were not informative to study from when needed (esp for what he was expecting for the midterm). Class average for the midterm was so low he had to curve it just to bring it up. Just avoid him lol.
Truly an amazing professor! He explains concepts so well, presents various viewpoints and is receptive to ideas that may differ from his own. Tests are very fair and are mainly based on lecture content. His assignments require a bit of work, but are completely doable. Overall a very interesting class, would highly recommend!
The exams are sooo hard. dont take this class
I liked his class. His exams are hard, people aren't lying. Everyone did poorly on the first one but the final was WAY easier. He really wants you to succeed; he provided a study guide. His assignments do take effort but they are graded fairly. He is always open to changing your mark if you think you were marked unfairly, you just need to ask.
Over my 3 years at TMU, this is the fourth course that I have taken with Dr. Ammirante. He is super kind, helpful, a great lecturer, and a fair tester, and his classes are really interesting!
This professor was a cool guy, his lectures are long but it is MANDATORY to go since the majority of questions on the exams are related to what he's saying and not the slides themselves. He's pretty accommodating with marks if you email him about a particular assignment being graded wrong. The 2 assignments he gave weren't hard at all.
Don't take this professor for PSY102. If you don't show up to everyone of his long 3 hour lectures and write down exactly what he says, then you are cooked. His lecture notes are useless and his mini exam notes didn't even help. The class average for the first exam was around 50% so that sums up the type of professor he is. GO TO EVERY 3HRLECTURE.
Listen, his lectures are long and boring ( he has a monotone voice) but that's all you need for his tests. His assignments are actually interesting but take some work. They r easy to get an ok mark but hard to get a very high one. He is lenient with extensions if you use the procedures (e.g. he'll give 5 extra days)
Professor Ammirante is a knowledgeable instructor. Attend lectures and engage with the material - his tests focus on understanding, not just memorization. unstuck AI helped me prep effectively for exams. Overall, a challenging but rewarding course.
He was very understanding when I missed the exam, and he allowed me to retake it on a later day. The textbook is not mandatory as long as you go to the lectures. His exams rely heavily on in-class examples and videos, so definitely go to the lectures!
I had him at 8 am for 3 hours, I couldn't stay up, his lectures get boring and long I would always fall asleep. He's a nice person in general just boring lectures, he also has a really low voice makes u wanna sleep.
He's a really fun lecturer. He is great at engaging the class and getting people to participate. The material itself is really interesting so a 3-hour lecture flies by. The assignments are easy and marked very fairly. His tests are exclusively from lectures so attendance is mandatory (take detailed notes!).
Teaching Style: Dry lectures with slides. Followed course syllabus well. Clarity: clear breakdown of complex information. Easy to take notes but too much information to process per class. Will clear confusion when asked. Organization: clear well structured and logically sequenced lectures. Communication: clear and on topic. Clear instructions.
I learned so much from Prof. Ammirante's lectures he is very kind and knowledgable. This course gave me new understandings of psychology as a whole. If you like the topics, its fun.
He is a very kind professor, to be honest, the exams aren't super easy. His slides are slightly hard to read, and the exams are pretty difficult, therefore his class requires a lot of effort. However, if you take the time to go to class and study, you will do just fine.
Paolo Ammirante seems like a nice guy, however I couldn't help but find his lectures very boring. There are 3 exams and an assignment, and I found the assignment to be marked pretty difficultly especially the format of citations. The exams weren't super hard but they do require a lot of studying. Not the worst prof, but this isn't an easy elective.
nice, caring, and organized, but the slides aren't really detailed so make sure to attend. 3 tests, 1 assignment. the work and grading weren't the easiest but also weren't too difficult. he tells you exactly which slides to study for the test. monotone but i found the content pretty interesting so delivery didn't matter to me.
overall good prof! for PSY813 its awesome cause for the tests he posts a list of the slides we'll be tested on so you study only what you need to (no tricky questions!). readings aren't mandatory, but i recommend going to class cause he expands on some things that are specifically on test questions. overall, good prof!
