great teacher. very knowledgeable about the material. although he is helpful debugging your code, he makes you feel like an idiot while he's at it.
I didn't like his style at all, almost 'mean'...
He is very intimidating and has a short temper with coding mistakes, like there shouldn't be any...
Dr. Bucci is an excellent instructor. I'm not sure why anyone would have a problem with him. He presented the material in a very clear manner. He is an energetic, enthusiastic lecturer and was always willing to help.
Very energetic and knowledgeable. Bug's world game was a fun lab.
odd balance of grading hard (lots of points off for stupid mistakes), but going slowly and not expecting people to understand simple topics. Energetic and fun to listen to. Does explain things well.
He gives very clear and thorough explanations, but sometimes he makes you feel guilty for making mistakes or not answer questions thrown out during lectures.

OK when instructing but harsh on the grading. Expects perfection in code. Willing to help you out in office ours, but you think everything is fine until you get your grade back and you get a D because you made some minor mistake...
yells during the whole class. very intimidating
In the beginning I absolutely hated this guy, but towards the end he actually seemed to not be so bad. Sometimes his help would lead me in the wrong direction so I would ask the grader. The exams seemed to be much longer compared to CSE 221 since I didn't seem to have enough time both exams.
I agree with the previous guy that i didn't like Bucci very well at first....He has gotten better though..He is funny at times and explains things pretty well...The homework is tough because sometimes homework is assigned before he actually goes over the topic...Overall, decent prof, although i like
I think that he makes the class artificially harder by grading ridiculously hard. He definitely knows what he is talking about, but his teaching style is condescending and demeaning at times. He kind of discourages input from students who don't know what they're doing.

This guy gives his students extremelly hard tests. He doesn't prepare the students in any way for the test, but he expects perfection from the students like they are born geniuses. Not even Bill Gates or any famous programmers would be able to pass his impossible tests. Good luck with this guy.
I knew day one that he was going to make me cry. He doesn't spare any expense making his expectations clear, and he makes them high. He expects a whole lot of his students, and he's not very forgiving. He's a nice guy, but a crappy teacher. He does help, but he's not always convenient.
This class is rediculous in the first place but Paolo makes it sickening. He does not help you. His tests are crazy crazy difficult. I hate him and I don't usually hate professors. And I can't understand a thing he says, damn accent.
Very very helpful, but He will get loud at times and he is definitely a harsh grader, he expects dedication and perfection.. I would take other classes with him.
Difficult to follow, showed his emotions too much.
Bucci's grading system is the worst I've ever seen. He changes grades that the teaching assistants mark. He expects perfection, but he isn't clear on how to achieve what he wants. When something is hard to understand, he continues to repeat himself as if explaining the matter badly multiple times will help.
This guy is terrible. I can't understand him with his rapid speech and Italian accent. He expects perfection on labs (which makes it really hard to get a 5) and yells at the students if the class does not participate or have questions. The average of our midterm was 60 while Long's section was 83. Oh and Bucci doesn't curve so don't expect an A.
He is the worst in CSE department. He yells at you if you ask question. The exams are extremely hard. He is also a hard grader, he will go after the grader he you get perfect score. RUN A WAY FROM ELSE YOU DOOM.
Hard grader and has high expectations, but if you're making an effort he has no problem giving you the time of day with plenty of suggestions. Also has a good sense of humor about the whole bugs language thing.
I actually think Paolo's one of the best guys in the department. If you put forth the effort and do your labs ahead of time, he's more than willing to critique them, give you feedback, and let you change them. He's very helpful and quick at responding to students outside of class, and he's a funny, good-natured guy. And he DOES have cool hats!
If you don't put in time, he probably won't like you. If you put in time, you won't necessarily get an A since he is a tough grader but he is more than happy to help you. He expects a lot out of everyone, and doesn't give as many points as most for effort. Tough but fair, my favorite CSE professor out of the whole 221/222/321 series.
A lot of people complained, but I liked his teaching style and went over things many times if you had questions.
Paolo is extremely tough and a hard grader and a very fast speaker who can come off as intimidating. That being said, he's one of the most helpful professors I've had and is EXTREMELY knowledgeable on the topic. I learned an exceptional amount in this class.
Paolo is one of the best teachers at Ohio State, and probably one of the most knowledgeable guys in the department. He explains the material well, and is willing to help anyone. Some people might mistake his passion for computer science as arrogance, but it is not. He just wants you to know your stuff. Everyone should take a class with him.
I strongly recommend NOT taking Bucci if you need structured lectures and are slower at understanding CSE classes. His lectures never seemed to get to the point and he always came off as annoyed and insulting if you asked questions. I guess some people must like him, but PROCEED WITH CAUTION.
Had him for 421 and 321. Great professor - especially for 421. His labs are very practical but his midterms/final require lots of studying. He can be a little bit scary. I would take one of his classes again cause he is a awesome Italian dude. fahey...
Excellent professor. I'm taking him again for 421 where he's still an excellent teacher. Very practical and gets his point across well. Awesome sarcastic sense of humor. Kind of a tough grader but he'll help you as much as you need. Highly recommended.
Bucci is a man at war. He is very testy, but he seems to feel bad about it at the same time. Like, he'll make you out to be an idiot for some of the questions you ask, he's so testy even when in good spirits, but then he'd semi-apologize. Your code is terrible, no it's not TERRIBLE, but it's so very bad, I mean I've seen worse, but MAN this code!
Generally people who complain about him are the ones who get terrible grades. It's definitely not Paolo's fault if you do poorly, because he explains everything you need to know and is very helpful.
I can tell he is passionate about the material he teaches but he wants everything done HIS way no matter what, (even if it is purely style or preference). He acts annoyed when you ask him questions in closed-labs or if he deems the question 'stupid'. You can get through the class if you have to but if you have another choice- take it.
Very knowledgeable but not the easiest man to ask questions to. 421 labs can be tough but are doable. Midterm and final were very difficult.
He talks fast, but he's always willing to slow down. He's obviously very passionate about his job, and he's also very good at it. He's not the easiest professor, but he is very fair.
He likes to explain things about 4 different ways, but just repeats himself. Be careful with what time your class is because you're likely to fall asleep during his droning on the same topic. He grades hard and the tests are very difficult. He is NOT good with questions, so pick it up on your own time since you won't want to ask him...
Paolo Bucci is the man. He's very strict and albeit condescending, you will learn a lot from him. The only experience I had in Java prior to his class was in high school, but now I definitely feel a lot more confident and well-versed in Java. But this knowledge doesn't come without pain!
Paulo is one of the best profs I've had at Ohio State. His class is not easy, and he expects perfection, but he teaches very clearly and tells you exactly what he wants. He is extremely helpful in office hours and answers emails promptly. 421 is a great class, and I highly recommend Paulo for the class.
Good guy, funny too. Is very clear. Really summed up all the concepts of SCE series well. Don't believe what anyone says about him being super rude, I think he was a little surprised by it himself and made fun of himself about this page in class. Tests are tough and labs are expected to be done to exactly to specifications. Fair though, learn a lot
Paolo is a master of his trade and the designer of the SCE sequence. He will challenge you to be your best, and expects exactly that. If you attend every lecture, I see no conceivable way to fall behind in this course. He is a funny guy, with a very appropriate temper. Easily the best professor in my three years at this school thus far.
Everything stated in the previous comment is true. However, be aware that your grade likely will suffer from taking Bucci. Take him to learn from him, not to get an A.
One of the few professors that I know I will never forget. He makes his classes hard because he expects the best, but he is very helpful and it's easy to learn enough to impress him. He doesn't tolerate laziness or ignorance. Some interpret that as rudeness, I interpret it as realistic. Amazing professor.
I felt like I understood everything and even though my labs were all seemingly correct, points were taken off so strictly. A good teacher and knows what he is talking about, but if you want a good grade, DONT take if from him.
HIGHLY intense class. Weekly labs are really weekly projects. He teaches the class as if you've mastered the Resolve sequence and/or had java in high school. Midterm and Final are all multiple choice. No HW grades except the labs. You don't get to keep your midterm test to study from. Beware of the time commitment!
Difficult class, learned a lot. Paolo is very straight forward about his difficulty. He is a great professor and gave all the resources necessary to learn for ourselves outside of class.
Overall he was a good teacher and it seemed like he truly cared about the students/class. All the material was extremely detailed. He can be good but strict. You learn a lot with his classes.
Just took this class and learned a lot. The set up is confusing, but it was the first 2231 class in semesters. Bucci came off as rude sometimes but it's just his personality. Can be funny, can be nice if you get to know him
Take this course with a different instructor.
This class had a lot of material to cover. The problem is not only that, the teacher is not approachable at times. He grades too rough on things such as making sure you only have one return statement, and some performance things. The grader was who to watch for also. Your grade will suffer if you are not persistent and careful studying.
He means well honestly, and the curve was quite generous even in a class of only 46 people during the summer. It was tough, and he is tough on grading. But you will learn too, a good guy but a little unfair on grading in an intro software sequence. Projects were rough too on grading. It is up to you if you think it's worth it with him. He does care
He is a very good teacher, but can be a little condescending (in a good way) when it comes to asking questions. He comes with a funny Italian accent, but it is very easy to understand. I recommend taking his classes.
He is extremely knowledgeable on the subject and can sometimes not understand why you're not understanding. However, he is more than willing to help you with any question and meet outside of office hours. His tests are comprehensive and not overly difficult, though the grades are final.
He is very knowledgeable in his field and does an excellent job of explaining material. He is also very passionate about his job, a little too much at times as he can gets all worked up when students do not understand. His class is rather challenging, but if you put the time in you will excel.
Averages always higher with other profs. Just take it with someone else.
Paolo is extremely knowledgeable of the field of CSE and is very passionate about the subject. The downside of this is it seems that he gets upset when you don't understand a topic. However, he really does care about students and will gladly work with you. Takes getting used and grades are lower, but you will learn more.
Great to listen to, great at speaking. Nice voice and accent. Very comforting.
His coding techniques are ou of date, and teaches some knowledge no one would use in real world.
It is clear that Bucci is passionate about computer science, however, his class is unnecessarily difficult for a pre major class. He grades way too tough on projects and tests, and his averages are always lower than other classes. Take it with someone else if you dont want to risk not getting into the major
I liked 23 of this class and when to him weekly for extra help the other 13. He will set up time to meet with students who ask for help but he will explain the material the same way, so if you don't get it the way he explains it, good luck. Very difficult teacher, can be degrading in lectures (not purpose), and re-iterates its our job to learn it
Software 1 with Bucci was unnecessarily difficult. The class average was lower compared to the other sections. Grades too harshly on projects and tests, and tends to be condescending if you don;t understand a concept quickly. Many students hesitated to ask hi questions because of this. Take this course with someone else
Not going to lie, Bucci is tough but he really knows his stuff. He really wants to make sure his students understand the course material which is why seems to get furstarted when students don't understand - however he if you show that you're trying he really takes notice and is here to help you learn
He would sit in lab and say: "Why are you guys not asking any questions." When you ask a question h would respond: "I don't know how you don't understand it's so simple." I would never take him for anything. There is no help or clarification.
The lectures in his class weren't very helpful since he moves so quickly, but all of the slides are posted online. The group projects went well. The exams were fairly difficult. There was a lot of very specific questions that require knowing very minute details, yet he says "focus on overall concepts". He's nice though and does what he can to help.
CSE 2231 was not the most enjoyable class, but Paolo did a good job. The tests were very easy and the grading on those was perfectly fair, but the labs were graded pretty tough. Messing up one little thing meant 10% was dropped from your grade. One of the best teachers in the department, but if you're looking for an easy A I'd look elsewhere.
If you want a solid understanding of the course material that you're willing to work towards, there couldn't be a better choice. He grades very fairly; you get exactly as many points as you deserve, and he's an enthusiastic and thorough lecturer. His dry sense of humor can be misinterpreted as rudeness, but in the end he just wants you to succeed
I can honestly say that he has been one of the better teachers that I have had. He challenged me to be better and I learned a lot from his class. His midterms and his finals are very difficult and he is a really tough grader. If you want to learn a lot then I would recommend him. If you need a good grade though I would choose someone else.
He really wants you to learn and is very passionate about the class!
Although he ends class late most of the time and is a tough grader, he is one of my favorite professors. It is so refreshing to have a professor that is so excited to teach everyday. He is clearly passionate about the subject and I learned a great deal from his class.
Nice guy overall, but his foundations 1 class makes me feel hopeless at many times. Doesn't do an adequate job preparing students for the work he assigns, and as a result the average grade of the class on even the homeworks is typically below an 80% which is unheard of even in difficult classes such as Math 1172 (which I received an A in).
He is quite irritable. He gets annoyed when people don't answer questions. The reason for this is because no one ever asks questions, so he doesn't know what the students aren't understanding. He's really caring and wants the students to do well. He encourages questions, and doesn't give away answers. Sometimes may be hard to follow, but he's good.
If you have other choice, never take his class. He has tough grading and you must have the code like his correct answer. And the exams are extremely difficult.
He is a good and experienced professors. The reason why I rate him so low is because he grades strictly and may influence GPA greatly. The course is already difficult and he still grade strictly. This situation makes many common students who is not very good at CS struggle in his class. But the good students can learn more things from his class.
I had Dr. Bucci for Software I and Software II. He is invested in the course material because he helped create the course content and he's a good teacher as well. However, he gets annoyed when his students don't ask questions, so be sure to do that. You must show up to lectures because there isn't a textbook for these courses.
Dr. Bucci is the embodiment of everything wrong with the CSE department at OSU. As course coordinator, he is the one responsible for the abhorrently bad material in Software I & II and his lectures show it. Exams are also significantly harder than other sections of 2231, it's seriously night and day how much harder they are.
Doesnt really explain much in class but if you so dare miss a single petty detail on an exam or a project ge will screw you over big time. The most earned grade for our MT2 was 30 and the second was an 80. Its an inverse bell curve, and no one likes that
I don't usually post here but a guy on reddit wished more people rated professors so here goes. Bucci is a good professor. His lectures are usually engaging and I, for one, find him pretty funny. He does grade exams pretty hard but usually the exam coding problems are similar to the projects. Some people practice for exams by writing code on paper.
Got consistent 9's and 10's on the projects, studied them before exams like everybody said to, looked at past exams, still was never really prepared and couldn't get higher than a C on the exams. He's definitely very smart and maybe it's because I took it at 8am, but this class is extremely difficult. DO NOT TAKE if you have a loaded schedule.
I took Dr. Bucci for both SW1 and SW2. He is a great professor that expects nothing less than excellence from his students. Prof Bucci is a professor that will make sure that you never forget the core principles of what he is teaching you. Don't miss lectures or labs (for you own sake). Maybe wear an Inter Milan jersey to get on his good side.
Paolo definitely understands the material well. However, if you ask questions he does make you feel like the stupidest person alive. If you want to succeed, you NEED to go to class. If you have the will to do well, you will. Just listen closely to what he says and remember them, because almost always he includes them on exams.
Paolo is a hard grader and will pick out small details and seems angry, but in the end, he really cares about your learning and gives you very good feedback. He is willing to help outside of class if you are truly stuck. The lectures are very organized and although the slides are online, Paolo definitely clarifies and provides more details.
He explains very good, HOWEVER he's a REALLY hard grader. If you need a good grade, RUN!
Paolo Bucci treats the students like they don't know anything and that us CS student are not thinking and are idiots. I guess he has the idea that he's doing it to make you better, but he does not treat any of his students with respect whatsoever. He has the idea that if scores are low, it is not because of him and his inability to teach, but on us
In class attendance is recorded & has random 3 question quizzes on specific items. HE DOESNT CARE IF THE GRADERS DONT GRADE BY HIS CRITERIA. Grades on homework DO NOT SHOW YOUR PREPARATION FOR THE EXAMS. He grades Very harshly and questions may be very niche. He has a thick accent and talks quickly, you probably wont understand everything he says.
Taking online. Lectures are entirely per-recorded. Lecture time is "office hours" and refuses to go over content that is in the lectures even if you are still confused. Harsh grader.
Paolo is clearly very passionate about CSE, but he treats his students as if they are idiots and refuses to answer some questions that people are struggling with because if you use your head you can probably figure it out. Lectures are prerecorded and mandatory to watch, and he expects you to ALSO go to live lectures on zoom. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
Bucci writes the Software courses, so he has the best understanding of the content and what each assignment is trying to teach. Don't expect him to be your friend, but it is clear that he cares that his students learn things properly and practices the discipline. Highly recommend because if you can't learn from him, you won't from anybody else.
Paulo made the curriculum for sw1 (cse2221) and 2 (cse2231). He is respected and knows what he is talking about but he can come off as arrogant and make students feel unworthy of his time. Didn't understand a topic at first glance? Get ready to be drilled with questions in a breakout room that make you feel like you know nothing. Best of luck.
Puts down students if they do not know an answer to one of his questions. Leaves in class lectures completely open ended. The class is fun and engaging, but frankly, he is a poor lecturer and has no respect for his students.
Makes his students feel like they do not know anything. It makes class feel like its a competition between him and his students. In reality, he should be working with students to help them learn and not putting them down. If you have another option, do not take him as your professor.
He always tells the class to ask questions, but once you ask a question, he makes you feel stupid for not understanding it. Says you shouldve watched and understood the lecture. Prerecorded lectures are made and lecture time is used as a Q&A rather than an actual lecture time. I dont recommend...
He definitely knows his stuff and is really passionate when it comes to CSE, specifically Software 1. He is not only a really tough grader and expects specific solutions, but you do have to study a lot if you want a decent grade on the quizzes. Be prepared to get ridiculed or criticized by him if you have any questions about the covered material
Extremely tough grader. Average on our first exam was 65%; our third was 60%. Ending with my first sub-A at OSU. If you make a tiny mistake, they will lacerate you. I've heard average is 20% higher in other profs' sections. Who gets an A vs who gets a B is determined not by how much you know, but by how good you are at tip-toeing on ice.
only good thing about him is he is knows stuff and accessible. But dare you ask a question you will be roasted like you never have been in your entire life. He is accessible and resources are there but if you want to ask questions make sure there are not a lot of people around you so the embarrassment you feel, which you will, stays to a minimum.
You will have to do a lot of studying outside of class and if you have questions that what you do in lectures. There are labs every other day and you have to finish them within the class period. Have projects every week and homework almost everyday. Need to watch lectures every other day before classes usually and very few days with no homework. GL
Bucci is a disgrace to Computer Science and Engineering in general. The first project in the class literally states on the rubric "teach yourself." Do not expect any real teaching from Bucci. Do not be surprised if you create functional code and still receive an F because it is not how he wants it. Bucc is the most unapproachable and rude professor
Bucci admits to using outdated software, coursework, and material for this class. He has been using the same format and projects for over 6 years. Do not expect to learn any actual useful information. Scratch that, do not expect to learn anything from this guy. He offers no input for the labs. His lectures are catered to people with previous exp.
Need to read slides before class which difficult to understand
A lot of people hate on this class because it is so different from any other coding course out there and it forces you to break with bad habits. In this class, you'll learn to code with rigorous discipline. If you want to become a better programmer that can write high quality code, this class if for you. If you put in the work, it will pay off.
There's no way that he can actually be a professor
Not sure why Bucci gets such a bad wrap. The class is definitely hard and some professors might have easier classes but this guy knows his stuff. Pretty sure he's the one that created the 2221/2231 sequence
sooooo difficult
This professor is a really tough grader who captures every small mistake in the exam and then makes a big deduction. Never take any courses from him.
Is a very harsh grader, but does teach well
Lectures are super bland and gets mad when asked questions. Doesn't go over any practice because all he asks for are questions in the class, and then briefly go over some points in the lectures not showing how to implement the code or use it. In Labs the work is there but you can barely ask questions and hope you don't get the professor to come.
I can understand why people consider Professor Bucci a difficult teacher. His grading is harsh, his exams are harder than other professors teaching the same class, and he doesn't always appear very friendly. But I honestly feel like I took away a lot from his class. I like his teaching style and it's very easy to ask questions in or out of class.
Work load is not too high, however expect graders to be tough. Things like missing a name on an assignment or submitting with the wrong file type will certainly lose you some points.
Bucci is an incredible lecturer, and while he comes across as a little demeaning sometimes I think it comes from the fact that he simply knows so much. If you ask him a good question he gets noticeably excited, he really likes student participation. He is the course director for 2221 so he knows what is important to study for the midterms.
Mr. Bucci is one of the most hard-headed professors I have ever met. If you want to take a class with a living fossil schedule his section of Software 2 or 1 and have a fun time asking him for help and having him talk to you like every question you asked was the stupidest question ever and that you don't know anything. Overall, bad professor.
Mr. Bucci was one of the best professors that I have had in the CSE department in terms of teaching. He cares about his students and the knowledge that they take away from the class. If you wish to actually learn Software II content, I recommend taking Paolo Bucci.
Bucci comes off as uncaring and almost rude professor. He wants everyone to participate but if you ask a question he might make you feel dumb for asking it. He understands the material, gives very informative lectures, and gives great feedback if you go his office hours prepared. The effort he demands makes all of his students better programmers.
Anyone who complains about him likely didn't feel like putting in the effort to learn the content. Not a difficult class if you pay attention even the slightest bit. Very passionate professor, cares about what he does and wants to make you a better programmer, even if that means telling you that you are stupid because, maybe you are.
Whatever you do even if this is the only course available with this teacher do not take his class. He likes to see people fail and is the hardest grader. You won't understand his lectures and you will fail the class.
GREAT PERSOHN ONG
Usually one of the only professors that makes attendance mandatory and teaches sections in the morning, so try not to take any software classes in the morning because you might have him. Very very tough grader. On exams, your entire code either has to be completely right or it's just wrong even if you think you deserve partial credit.
He is a decent lecturer who conveys a clear understanding of the content, however he can be a little difficult to approach. After I started talking to him more and spent extra time practicing towards the end of the semester, I understood the content pretty well. He has a lot of insight and can genuinely make you a better programmer
He's a very good professor in terms of teaching. If you want one 24 hour extension your probably not gonna get it. He is very passionate about the material but he does not curve and he tells the TAs to grade harder. This is good for us but I knew people who turned in significantly worse code get better grades than me in other sections.
Among many things, doesn't communicate topics clearly
terrible class environment, hard on grades with little grade opportunities (midterms are make or break), ego, awful experience and I recommend people to stay far away.
He gets a bad reputation and it was intimidating at first but I would not be scared. I got a D on the first midterm and ended with an A still, very fair exams and the projects are easy points if you attend office hours. People who think his section is impossible to achieve in are simply not putting the time in.
I had Bucci for SW1 and SW2. SW1 was a big learning curve, but I don't think that has too much to do with the way he taught. I was quite intimidated at first in SW1, but I soon realized that he is a caring teacher who is passionate about the subject. Tests are not hard to succeed on if you watch the video lectures and review labs.
I quickly figured out the people complaining about Bucci simply didn't put in the effort to learn OR needed their egos checked. Yes, he went off on a few people during class, but for good reasons...people being disrespectful and arguing with him or undermining his policies. He was really helpful to me outside of class, cares about what he teaches.
Bucci is the head for sw 1 and 2 so the tests for all classes are very similar to his, the tests are also fair, they are hard but everything on his exams is stuff that he went over in class. tbh, most of the bad reviews come from people who don't try much. Additionally, he curves at the end by a decent amount. main advice is just put in effort.
So much homework, but it shouldn't be longer than 30 minutes and are preparation for lab the next day. Often comes off as exasperated with students when they don't raise their hands to answer questions or don't answer questions. This would be appropriate for older students, but his classes are mostly taken by freshman and sophomores. Informative.
C+ before curves, B after curves :)
His course is widely recognized as the most difficult. The exams are the hardest among all the professors, and the assignments are graded the most strictly. He designs the materials and teaches with great dedication. If you genuinely want to learn, choose him. If you're just looking for a good grade, avoid him.
The class is challenging, but Bucci's teaching approach is effective if you put in the effort. The homework is manageable, and the tests are fair. Using resources like unstuck study alongside the lectures can really help with study prep.
the least accommodating professor i have ever had at osu. i was very ill (to the point of where i couldn't get out of bed) and it happened to be during finals week. i tried to ask him to rearrange my exam time so that i could heal before taking the exam but he was not allowing it. ended up having to retake this class b/c he is so not accommodating.
He's notoriously hard, but if you have a strong coding background, it wasn't very hard. Midterms are a big percentage of grades, and if you have a bad day, it can drastically affect your grades. Doesn't give materials to help with exams. Project grades aren't explained with a clear rubric and I was left wondering. Pray for a good TA. Nice guy tho
Bad course to taken with him, heavy homework with limited percentage, strict exams which you might get deduction for not efficient of the code (the codes are written by hand based on paper)
hard grader
Easy exams with harsh points deductions for mistakes. 2221 is a horrendously designed course that is useless at teaching concepts. Be prepared for a tremendous amount of time wasted with lecture, lab, homework, and projects - none of which properly teach the core concepts of the class.
Nice lecturer but not a good teacher, you can never get 10/10 in you project, any of the small problem will take your grades.
Everyone in my class received a 40% on midterm 1 and he blamed it on us...
Not a good teacher at all. CSE 2231 exams are the hardest with him. Other SW2 class exams are open book ,open note. He makes the exams extremely hard. Doesn't do exam reviews. The median for Midterm 1 is 51 with no curve. OSU needs to make a set standard SW2 exams. Takes every question as criticism and is defensive.
Midterm 1 & 2 averages were both failing grades, goes on to blame the students. Constantly complains that no one participates in his class, but then is mean to people who to participate, with no constructive criticism. He likes making examples out of people and embarrassing them. Just be kind Bucci, more people will talk, I can guarantee.
He's an excellent lecturer! His class is hard but fair if you put in the work, and he does such a good job explaining the concepts at a deeper level. He can be intimidating if you don't know him or if you're afraid of speaking up, but if you make an effort to approach him you'll find that he's a really funny and caring person. I loved class w/ him!
Professor Bucci is a kind and funny guy! His course expectations are pretty standard and if you show effort, he'll be more willing to give you tips on his tests. Basically, show up everyday and participate. His tests are fair and pretty reasonable, but I'd say you actually have to study for them, maybe take a day or two to study.
Paolo seems tough but he's just very passionate about the subject and expects students to put in the work. He's accessible and willing to give you feedback on anything you need. He's very knowledgeable and has a very specific way he wants things done, but everything in the class is absolutely doable.
Hands-down the BEST professor I've had at OSU. I had him for 2221 and then purposefully again for 2231. Many people will diss him because he is strict but if you show up, put in work, and genuinely care about the material he will battle for you and you will be amazing at coding reasoning. Also, he is hilarious. Go to his and grader office hours.
Hardest class I have ever taken. No one got an A. Daily assignments and the class is very test based heavy. The exams are impossible and no curve. Prof gets mad when asking him questions.
Horrible class environment
Whoever says he is a bad professor did not put in the work. There are times where you question if he is speculating if you are dumb or not, but that is his personality. Fair grader, he is funny in lectures/labs, and is a great professor.
Bucci is hands down my favorite professor in the CSE classes that I have taken. Bucci is readily available to help during his office hours. I remember letting Bucci know that I'd be absent for a conference and he was very understanding and willing to work with my schedule. Love this guy!
Bucci is very passionate about computer science. However, the format of his course skews grades downwards. Multiple times I completed a project to receive feedback of "Great Work!" to still just get an 80%. Also, there isn't an attendance grade specifically, but rather a participation grade. Content is not difficult, the harsh grading is.
