Very hard to understand and assumes you know everything about math. Grading on exams and quizzes was harsh. I failed his class because I couldn't understand him at all. Retook the class with a different prof. and am passing with an A. Avoid at all costs.
Doesn't speak good English. Do not take him if you struggle in math. Genuinely tries to help, but with the language barrier sometimes he doesn't understand. TOUGH Grader.
Doesn't speak good English at allllll & can't teach what so ever save yourself! Don't take this course
I didn't like him at first because he was a bit hard to understand, but I've got to admit that he's grown on me. He's a tough grader for sure, but at least he's lenient on turning in bookwork late. So long as it's in his mailbox by friday you're good. I know a lot of people gave bad ratings, but I like him. That might just be because I like math.
Very good professor. The tests given were very similar to the notes presented in class.
ALWAYS available during office hours, very helpful explanations. Massive amounts of extra credit offered to students. His voice is a little quiet when he teaches but other than that he is understandable. Once you get used to his teaching you will do well in his class. Material covered in class is exactly what will be on quizzes, tests, and exams
Sometimes difficult to hear and understand what he says. Quizes and tests were modeled closely from in-class examples and homework. Attend class and do homework, and this teacher was not too bad for a Calc 3 class.
This had to be the easiest A i ever made in Toledo. He gives u the exam ahead of time. Hint: Go to ALL the classes and u are SURE to make an A in the class. I really liked this class and he will do everytin in his power to help u understand the material
He talked very quiet and he was hard to understand. But his exams and quizzes were easy.
Just don't.
He is REALLY hard to understand. Like if you can understand him you will probably do fine but if you do not understand heavy foreign accents don't do it. His class is pretty fast-paced.
Seriously was the worst teacher ever. I am not good in math and he didn't make matters easier. Terrible skills at explaining. screwed up my grade with every exam he graded - he gave my less points than i earned. lost one of my quizzes and just over HORRIBLE teacher! DON'T BOTHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You cannot understand him in class and the bulk of the work is only worth 15% of your grade. When you ask him a question he cannot understand you and therefore your question isn't answered.
Should have read these reviews first. Save yourself and find another professor.
I struggled understanding him through his quiet mumbling and heavy accent. Not great at answering questions. If you don't understand it's hard to get back on track. But when I did reach out for help he was very nice and helpful.
Calc 2 is a hard class no matter who you have. I took it in high school so I already knew most of itHe wasn't the best at explaining the material; however, his quizzes and exams were easy. Homework is optional, but it does help to do practice problems. I only studied from the notes, the textbook was useless for me.
If you are good at math then maybe you won''t struggle as much; he was hard to understand with his thick accent and when you asked a question his answers were confusing. From the slides and the homework seemed completely different than what he gave on the group quizzes which he gave every other class. I wish you the best of luck.
He never really explains anything in class. He will teach himself a slide right in class and then teach it back to us not even understanding it himself. He talks really quietly so if you squeaky chairs in class. good luck because yo wont be able to hear what he says. Not a very good teacher at all
This was his first time teaching this course, and he didnt to bad. He can be hard to understand at times but will repeat what hes saying if you didnt understand. His tests and quizzes are straight forward and very easy if you show up and understand the material. Lots of online homework. If you put in the work youll get a good grade.
Grading sucks, Homework average 98%, quiz average 81%, exam average 55% Homework and quizzes make up only 34% of your grade and tests cover the rest, much of my class did very poorly on the first exam we took and thus screwed our chances of getting a good grade, The poor exam performance is because THEY WERE TOO HARD, much harder than quizzes
I wasn't good at math and having him as a professors made it 10 times worse. I'm kinda surprised I passed with a solid B. Accent is very hard to understand.
I could not understand a word this man was saying but the class was easy. He only has 2 tests and 6 quizzes and all of the questions were simple. I has to teach myself the material in this class but it wasnt hard because of the simplicity of the exams. I would take him again but I wasted my time coming to his lectures.
It can be difficult to understand everything he says because of his accent. He also has had trouble understanding students' questions as well. On multiple occasions he made mistakes when explaining a new topic. The questions on quizzes/tests weren't too bad; doing the homework definitely helps out. Be prepared to learn topics on your own.
He is a very nice person, but hard to understand. The TA went over the quizzes before we took them so they were a piece of cake and the exams were based off of the quizzes. The final exam was nothing at all like the previous exams, though. It was a very difficult final.
Very good guy
All around great guy, and a good sense of humor. You can ask him any question about hw or test problems and he'll work through it with you. Does a lot of examples in his lectures so take notes for reference. Gives a little extra credit, but may give you more opportunities if you talk to him individually or come to him for help often :)
A teachers assistant grades all of the papers and if a problem is not done his way it is wrong. The grading was ridiculous.
A teachers assistant grades all of the papers and if a problem is not done his way it is wrong. The grading was ridiculous. You have to do problems exactly how he does them in class so you best be going.
Very bad professor. Took a class on the application of linear algebra, but we went over no applications, just proof/theory. Would not recommend to anybody.
Nice guy in general. I took this class online over the summer and was very scared but it turned out alright. Lectures can be a bit long/unorganised but quizzes are easy and exams are very similar to quizzes and previous exams. Good experience.
He is a sweet heart.
He is terrible. He talks so fast and it is very hard to follow him. Personally I could not understand the way he work through the problems and basically spent the whole semester teaching myself on MyMathLab with their homeworks, study guides, and video lectures. He also makes you feel dumb if you don't understand and can't do the problems
Easily one of the hardest classes i've ever taken. He messed up in class constantly. Knows what he's talking about but can't teach it. Tests every week. Exam was over the hardest things. Never miss a day or you'll be fighting to keep your head above water
He will not curve your grade at the end of the semester, will make you work for your grade. You need to attend lecture every time, his quizzes are almost exactly like the practice problems he goes over in class. Tests are a bit harder but doable. The final kicks butt, dropped my grade from a A- to a B. Uses Mathlab alot, stay up to date! Good luck!
Can be slightly difficult to understand at times because of his accent and will often stand in front of the board. Overall, understands the material well and teaches it very well if you can get over those barriers. Tests are HARD, the quizzes were a breeze in comparison. Uses MyMathLab. The final was pretty much carbon copied from the last year's.
Lemme tell ya, this class is very very hard. If you buckle down and study you will do great. He is a chill professor trying to help. Talk to him. All smiles.
He is actually a caring instructor. You can find his help in the office hour. However, his teaching class is not really smooth and can be painful for you if you can't understand to his accent. Many times I ask questions inside the class but he will end up answering other questions which doesn't solve my problem. He is very knowledgeable in math.
He's actually not bad when you go to him 1:1 during his office hours, but during class, he does not answer questions well. Also, he mumbles quite a bit which makes it even harder to understand on top of his accent. Tests are tough, and the final exam was brutal. Also there's NO curve. For his class: watch YouTube to learn, or go to his office hours
Great Professor! He makes sure his lectures and online homework provide all the necessary information required for the students to get an A on both the quizzes and tests. The quiz questions usually come directly from examples taught in class. The test questions usually come directly from the quizzes. Go to class, do the hw and study u will get A.
Very tough grading on tests and quizzes. Don't expect much partial credit on incorrect problems. Online homework allows for unlimited attempts but sometimes can be ridiculousy hard. Class is not taught bad but with tough grading and no curve this class is tough.
He's clearly a smart individual who understands math very well, but is not a great teacher. Has a very thick accent which makes understanding him difficult, also seems lazy and uninvolved. I asked him to post a test review and extra problems on blackboard but he said no and refused. Also takes very long to respond to emails.
Absolutely the worst math professor I have had yet. He is a VERY tough grader. Little to no partial credit. Give lots of homework and may give pop quizzes. He has a thick accent that makes him hard to understand. Also, he does not respond in a timely manner on emails and doesn't update grades often. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PROFESSOR AT ALL COSTS!
He's book smart but when it comes to teaching he's inept. He has a strong accent and is very soft spoken. He gives no partial credit. All the exams and quizzes are weighted heavily and always have curve balls. He gives a lot of homework in class and online, and you are expected to memorize all equations and covers material other professors won't.
If you have to take his class I highly recommend using Khan academy and other resources. As well as sitting in the very front. He is very soft spoken and has an accent. He knows what he is talking about but has a difficult time understanding that you may not. I went to him for help after class and often I was brushed off and given a useles synopsis
Overall he is not terrible, but has a bit of an accent that makes it difficult to hear him sometimes. Online homework can be difficult, but has helped me understand some stuff in the course better. He seems to know what he is doing, he just isn't a good lecturer. Also even though attendance isn't mandatory, he still pays attention for it.
You spend 4ever on homework & it doesn't matter, only exams matter. You take online class but are expected 2 get xtra cred & exams on campus only. He'll extend due dates but there's a language barrier and he seems to downplay many student's misunderstanding. He always compared me to other students but I'm an adult learner & not like others.
Incredibly difficult to understand. If you do badly on one quiz or test you are pretty much doomed for the rest of the semester. His lectures are extremely difficult to follow. I have never failed a class before this. STAY AWAY.
I have always been a good math student but this class was near impossible to pass. Also, he is not a nice person as I once asked him for help and the whole time he just criticized my work saying I wasnt ready for Calc 3 even though I have understood everything perfectly in previous Calc classes. Stay away
Very smart guy, but has no idea how to teach. Tests and quizzes are as hard as possible. Flunked badly. I took a different professor later and passed easily, and actually understood what I was doing. Also a bit of a language barrier, so questions are typically only half answered if answered at all. Don't take this professor
Worst professor I've ever had. He doesn't teach, he tells you how to do things and then ignores your questions unless you are his star pupil. He only listens to the smart people and ignores those trying to learn. I've never struggled with any math but this because of this professor, I'm about to fail this class. Just stay away from him.
Taking his online class was the worst. He does not respond to emails or hw questions through cengage. For the first test he sent out a reminder email and allowed for students to chose what time test was taken during that day, second one he sent no email and only during the time of the class. So, watch recorded lecture to know when tests are.
Had for calc 2 & 3. Nice guy & will answer questions. HW was online & test problems came right from the HW, which made it easier & there were no surprises. Some HWs were long, some short. Went over some of the HW ?s in class, however there were some that were difficult and not covered in notes. He let the class choose when tests were. I recommend.
Cant do math
What do I love about him? Nothing at all
Plenty of assignments. Hard to understand him for the first couple of weeks, until you get used to his accent. Willing to take classroom feedback. Course covers difficult material. Not a horrid teacher.
He just is bad, flat out
Very hard to understand, if you were a star pupil then he paid attention to you, The class was online and we spent maybe only 20 minutes learning algebra and the rest of the time going over what assignments that were due the following week.
This professor is just bad at teaching actuarial sciences. I took the class looking to help me pass my actuarial exam but learned nothing from him. He started off giving homework, which had way too many problems that didn't even relate to notes. Then, stopped giving homework out of nowhere. No grades have been submitted either. Don't take him.
I had this professor for not long at all. I knew at and instant and after reading reviews that teaching is not his strong suit. AVOID this professor at all costs and if you end up taking him and you can drop and transfer to another class DO IT. He is very kind and knowledgable, but he CANNOT and DOES NOT teach at all. So glad I escaped.
If you sign up for his class, don't bother going. You'll have a better time teaching yourself than trying to understand what he is saying.
Test questions are from HW! If you do the HW well, getting an A is quite easy. Some HWs are hard but he explains in class. Attending classes is not mandatory but it is very helpful He walks through each step to solve a problem during the office hours. He is very soft spoken, humble and always wants to make sure you understood the concept well.
He is quite bright guy. Just attend class regularly and do the HW.
He is the most knowledgeable guy! It can get harder or more abstract some time. Just talk to him during the office hours! TA graded the HW and Tests! They give partial credits and the tests are not that hard. A lot of hws: about 20 problems a week.
Use of WebAssign made it very easy. He is always available for help outside the class roo.
Although he does drop the lowest test grade I do not recommend taking a class with him. He is kind but soft spoken and hard to understand. It is also sometimes difficult to read what he is writing on the board. He automatically assumes you know the material and moves on if one person is able to answer. He didn't teach the material well.
PK was a nice guy and was helpful during class. He is not a bad choice for a prof. but the material is simply difficult. He tried his best to make the test expectations clear. While the class was difficult and it was test heavy, I would still take him again.
The webassign hws are great! Answer questions and helpful outside the class.
One of the worst professors I've had. He's not at all effective at teaching. Always late, never seemed prepared for class, would spend large chunks of time trying to figure out what to do next. I learned almost everything from the book, not his lectures, as they were NEVER clear. He asks YOU how to do the questions rather than showing. Avoid him.
The fact that I passed this class with a C is a miracle. This was the worst class I have ever been a part of and when asking for help he would just say things along the lines of help yourself. All extra credit is outside of class, which many people who have jobs cannot attend. Do yourself a favor and don't take this "professor" SO MUCH HW
PK is mediocre on his best days. This class was accelerated and he struggled to keep pace. We spent two weeks on one chapter and then had to cram 2 chapters into the week and a half before the final. He also dropped 10 hw assignments on us in that span. Very boring lectures and condescending at times. Not the worst prof, but far from the best.
just avoid
Prof. Karuppchamy should not be the face of this two teacher class. I felt more self taught than being taught. He makes threats and yells at the class. Goes too fast, doesn't explain well, seems unprepared. This is an online class but he requires in person exams. A bad experience, if I have to take his class again I will drop out of my degree.
Terrible professor. Will give you a bad grade on an assignment and not tell you why you got it wrong. Didn't learn anything in his class.
He is not the best but really kind. Student led class where we choose what will appear in the exam. Exams are identical to hw problems. Did extra credit based off attendance. Lectures are hard to understand but if you do hw you will be fine. Let's you take online exam with two attempts or Patrick's credit on paper. Easy class if you put in time.
Lots of homework assignments all due on the same day. There are 5 exams and a final. He does drop the lowest exam. The questions on exams are directly from homework and you can either take online w/ 2 attempts or paper for partial credit. I found his lectures very confusing and not clear so I personally would not recommend taking his class
Very disorganized in his teaching style. Will rush and cover topics in the same day, not giving enough time to explain problems or do extra practice. Will show you how to do easy problems in class but includes difficult ones in exams not related to what he taught. Copies straight from the book and does not actually teach or explain.
He expects you to remember complex topics from past classes, like trig substitution, and use them in quizzes and tests. Even though those complex topics never show up in the homework. You will be blindsided by a question you don't know how to solve, and his only response is, "Didn't you learn this in calc 2?" SAVE YOUR GPA, DON'T TAKE!!!
This professor has a very tough time connecting what you learn in class and what you will be tested on. He uses examples directly from the book and rarely explains full examples, never more than once. All of this while moving at a breakneck and unorganized pace. Through all of this, the PK never fails to get us talking and shows he does care.
Avoid at all costs. No partial credit. Homework is easy but exams are insanely harder. Lectures are disorganized, he jumps between topics and explains nothing well. Never shows up to office hours. waited 40 mins, no email. No reviews before exams. I'm a straight-A student, and this class wrecked me. Calc 2 was a joke compared to this. Save your GPA
choose any other professor, but not PK. he is disorganized and writes all over the board. always arrives 5 minutes late to class and wants to stay an extra 5 minutes past class time. exam/quizzes are nothing like hw and more difficult. expects you to know how to solve everything. copies straight from book. messy handwriting thats hard to read
By far, the WORST professor I've had at Toledo. All semester we ripped through section after section. 4-5 homework assignments per week which, while trivial, are nothing like the exams. Expects advanced mastery of calc 1-2 material and is unforgiving if you don't remember. Learn from my mistake and DO NOT register for his classes!
Exams are complicated and long. Would not recommend, his teaching is not effective and skips steps
This professor is straight up terrible. He's always late and completely unorganized Honestly, you don't learn a single thing, it feels like a total waste of time. On top of that, he's disrespectful and acts like he doesn't care at all about the students. Lectures are a mess, the class is pointless, and he's one of the worst teachers I've ever had.
Professor PK is a fair professor. His lectures are slightly confusing sometimes, but as long as you actively ask questions and make sure you do your homework problems and actually understand what you're doing, you'll be fine. He doesn't always reply to emails, but he's usually pretty accessible right after class.
All ALEKS based doesn't teach much at all but walk around. Test is work 70% of grade.15 modules due every week and mandatory 8 hours of time spend on ALEKS worth points. Everyone works in a different pace. And syllabus and midterm grade doesn't make any sense. Good luck!
