He goes very quickly through the lessons and it is very difficult to catch on. Makes biology seem harder then it should be.
NEVER TAKE BAGGA! He is boring, he wants you to ask a million questions about a topic he just speeded through, he gives 3 finals and numerous pop quizzes and he makes you not only fall asleep, but SNORE in class. Bagga bites the big one.
He's very boring and I don't understand him half the time. He doesn't try to make the class interesting and he teaches straigh from the book.
He is really boring but is very helpful. His exams are hard and they are 90% of your grade. Take him if you want to work hard!
This guy is one of the smartest professors I've ever had... Hes like a computer, totally understands everything. Always has office hours and will help you if you need it. Class lectures can get pretty boring, but the notes are all available on his website
extremely nice man, very willing to help, truly wants you to learn, does teach to a higher level though, intro class was far too complicated for what it was, not so bad though
Prof. Bagga exhibits as real care towards the thorough understanding of the Biology he teaches. This translates into "Hard", and demands involvement by students. Bravo.
Really nice guy, class can be a bit boring, but it is easy. I got an A and only study for one test, as long as you read the assigned readings you will do fine.
Lots of work (mainly studying), but you'll learn a lot. Very eager to help and answer questions.
VERY understanding and fair. Material may be somewhat hard to grasp, but he teaches it in a way that makes it easy. He does not move on to next concept unless all students understand the material (that is if you speak up). You will learn a lot.
pretty fair teacher although he is a little high on himself. If you study, you will get an A, if you erase anything you will fail.
I really hate all the memorization because I'm not good at it, but if you can understand concepts you'll pass this class. The material is hard and boring - he does his best to make it interesting. He's passionate about what he teaches and you'll learn.
great guy. the class is pretty easy too. i hate bio but it was a great course.
Got a B+. Overall nice guy but favors some students over others. Doesn't understand the notion of privacy. He will tell you how bad/well you did front of your peers.
Horrible. Plays favorites. Rude, impossible to understand accent. Way too much work for an intro class. You lose 5% of your grade every missed class.
The worst teacher I've ever had in my entire life. Your grades are based on pop quizzes, and your final and mid-term...ALONE!!!!! Made me wanna commit suicide. For REAL. The end.
He is so precious...you just want to take him home to your mother!
full of himself.
Nice guy. Needs to resepct privacy. Has to learn he can help students accomplish lot more by motivating students rather than letting them down. Got a B+
horrrrrrible...do not take him! no matter how hard you try you will not succeed!
You will learn A LOT! He sincerely cares about his students learning the material. He will not move ahead until "every one" understands the material. Don't take this class with anyother hard science courses.
He makes Bio very interesting, even to non-major students (like myself). He is extremely intellegent, and will answer any questions you have about anything remotely related to biology (and answer them well). He expects a lot, but if you show up at class every day, you wil be fine
he's a good guy. all he does is lecture but thats what the class is anyway. he will go over any questions you have and will do his best to make you understand the topic.
The Worst Professor Ever, hands down. Nothing else can be said.
If you are thinking about it, take his bioinformatics class, you will learn a LOT of cutting edge tools on the internet. Must not have any real knowledge of computers or programming.
I am a bioinformatics major and Dr. Bagga is my advisor. He has been very helpful in my understanding of the field.
he is a great guy who will help his students to no end. his test are not bad but the TF are hard! he hypes up the bioinformatics ALOT. its not all its cracked up to be and u find this out very late in the game. so do reseach on it and the classes u need for it. study alot of his classes and ull be fine.
Fantastic Professor. Work is difficult but very fair. You will get the grade you EARN. You will also get more real-world-useful knowlege and skills than from any other professor. Highly recomended for the serious student.
He can be helpful, but also vindictive at the same time. If he likes you, he might give you an easy protein for the bioinform project; if he doesn't, then you'll get a difficult one.
Dr. Bagga was the best and hardest professor I have ever had at Ramapo. Lecture notes and labs = Fantastic. His lecture and lab exams are MC and tricky, but manageable overall. Lecture and lab were a blast with him; hard, enjoyable, and entertaining. Tough material overall but he makes you earn your own grade. Bioinformatics project was easy!!! A+!
This course is only hard if u are taking hard classes with it. Otherwise it can be a relatively manageable course. manage ur time and study gradually thruout the course and u should be fine. He likes giving lots of general overviews so dont expect to go into great detail with complicated subjects.
He's a very fair grader and will go out of his way to help you. He's good at explaining concepts and makes class exciting. However, he tends to use a lot of overwhelming acronyms. He is also very thorough. Everything he says in class will always be on the test in some form. You have to really understand and be able to apply the concepts.
he's a very nice guy - 1 on 1. He talks more about how he teaches, than actually teaches the material. I do a lot of work on my own to keep up. He's not clear or thorough. Berates students who ask questions he deems "not intelligent." He likes to talk about himself a lot. I wish that he'd cover less material more meaningfully.
One of the hardest classes you can take, but one where you come out of it feeling like you've actually learned. He cares a lot that students learn and slows down if not. He does make those who ask questions feel like idiots - I swore if I heard the word "obviously" one more time I was going to walk out. Study hard, go to class, you'll make it
Great Professor! Hard class, don't take other hard classes at the same time- annoying while in the course but looking back, I learned a lot! Lab methods can be used on resume, He is VERY excited about bioinformatics (sometimes I forgot I was in CMB!) Labs are LONG, sometimes OVERTIME. Work at it and you'll do fine, tricky tests READ THE TEXT!!
The Cell & Molecular Biology class requires a lot of work. However, as long as you are willing to work hard, you will learn a lot from this professor. He comes prepared to the class and teaches the subject with passion. He tries to use the latest developments in science as examples. The exams are hard but very fair. Project was fun!
Makes you attend all the classes. Treats you with dignity and respect even if you are not the smartest in the class. Very helpful even outside the classroom. Learnt a lot of new information in his course. Highly recommended for a serious student.
C&MB is a hard course. However, Prof. Bagga makes it very interesting. He is highly knowledgeable. (And kind of cute). He goes out of the way to explain the hard concepts and won't move further until you understand everything. But you have to work hard to stay 'current' with the information. Don't wait till the last day to prepare for the exam.
I took his bioinformatics course because heard a lot about it. I could not have imagined how much I will end up learning in that class. It is not as hard as the CMB course. The professor teaches it with a lot of enthusiasm and is very helpful. The skills I learned from the class were very helpful for me to be where I am today. Highly recommended!
EXTREMELY hard class that requires a LOT of work and studying on your own time. Attendance is mandatory, and classes can get a little tedious at times, but he truly cares about your learning and goes out of his way to make sure you understand it. Spends an hour on questions if he has to. Hard class, but he's a great teacher.
Dr. Bagga is amazing. He made the hardest class ever easy and enjoyable. He really cares about your learning. I learned much more than any other class I took. He even gives you study tips and how to prepare for his exams. Also, he's willing to help new graduates to find jobs. So, make sure you take Cell and Molec with him. A+
Cell and Molecular Biology was great with him. He is the best biology teacher at ramapo college. He is probably the only one who knows how to teach. His exams are fine, not as hard as what he says in class. Just pay extreme attention in class. you will make it. Take it with Bagga you will like it.
Great professor! Wasn't too excited about taking the class but I was happy to have taken Cell Molec with Bagga because he actually made it interesting. Dr. Bagga is the man! As long as you pay attention and ask him questions if you dont understand things you'll do fine.
I learnt a lot in the Bioinformatics class. The prof is great. He teaches with passion and makes it fun. He makes sure you learn all the concepts. The skills I learnt will be very helpful in finding a job and/or getting into grad school. The class is not too difficult and counts as a Biology elective with lab!
Great professor great class! He will work with you to make sure you understand everything. Will not quit until you understand it. He brings exciting new discoveries to every class. Makes the class very interesting. I think he is one of the best teachers at Ramapo. Can't wait to take his Bioinformatics class in the spring.
I took Bioinformatics just because it fit into my schedule and counts as an elective with lab for the biology major. However, I am glad I took the course. I learnt so much. It was fun!
Cell & Molecular Biology was a hard but fun class with Dr. Bagga. I have already taken his Bioinformatics class. Wish he taught more courses. I would love to take his courses.
The class is soooooo easy easier than Bio1. 400 level joke. His exams are rite from the notes and nothing challenging at all. Take this class if you need a bio elective its the easiest. The lab is a joke even though he makes a big deal out of it. Bagga will love you if you sign up for it. It really sucks sitting 5 hours on Thursday in that class.
Took both cell molec and bioinformatics with him at the same time. he's much friendlier in bioinformatics. His tests for bioinformatics are so much easier than cell moelc and some questions are similar for both classes. overall an easy fun guy that scares people to work harder but he's sooo cool and friendly.
BAGGA IS AWESOME!!! AMAZING AT EXPLAINING THE STUFF. EASY GOING. COOL GUY. REALLY CARES ABOUT YOUR LEARNING. HE MAKES BIOINFORMATICS VERY INTERESTING. EASY COURSE AND MUCH COOLER THAN CELL MOLEC!! PROJECT ISNT AS BAD AS EXPECTED
Great professor. Really goes above and beyond for his students. BIINF is very fun with him, and the project isn't too bad although it can be frustrating. Learned a lot.
He is overall good! just scary sometimes. He will scare you about the exams and say that it will be very challanging but in fact the exams are so easy and gives extra credit.
Best bio course I have ever taken,But a lot of work/time was required.Tests were pretty long and intense. You will work for your grade and you will learn a lot.Truly the best professor in the department-fair, undestanding, funny, and clear! The majority of what he teaches does show up on the test and the course is not for slackers.
Don't let him scare you in the beginning! He does expect you to know a lot, but he teaches well. He's super nice if you need help in the class or anything in general (esp if you're a bioinformatics major). Definitely wants his students to learn something in the class. Start the end projects asap.. it's not hard but it takes forever
Yes, he expects a lot out of you but if you go to class, look over your notes, and write down everything he says, you should be fine. Show him you’re making an effort. He makes the class seem harder than it is, but he’s very thorough and enthusiastic about helping students. Also, knows A LOT about grad school!Take ONLY if you have good work ethic!
Awesome guy, he is truly passionate about his teaching. I highly recommend taking him.
very condescending, tries to scare you. tests arent that bad if you study. the final project is a doozy but you can't avoid it anyways.
He is a tough but awesome professor. Made this class enjoyable. You work for your grade but he makes the tough material easier to grasp.
Don't let his greatness scare you away, ask questions, be respectful and truthful and it will carry you far, be sure to pick a good partner for his class project and for the lab, being able to split up the work evenly is key to dominating the pace of the class. I would split up the lab work at the start, the end has 3 labs for the group project.
Absolutely the worst prof. I have taken during my whole academic career. Gives difficult exams that are worded terribly. Does a terrible job of helping you learn. Taught myself. Do not take unless you have to. Can not stress this enough. Not a fun time.
Terrible professor. Cares very little about learning and gives you very little time for the final project which counts for a huge part of your grade. Unless you are a bio major avoid this class at all costs. If you have to take it, choose prof. Stuart over Bagga. Trust me. If absent more than once for any reason, he fails you. Not kidding
He really wants students to do well in his class, though you will have to work for it. Study the lecture slides and any other readings he gives you and you'll be fine. Make use of office hours and the tutors, and form a good study group. For his lab, start the website and lab notebooks as early as possible so they don't pile on during finals week.
Here is a professor that other educators should strive to be more like. He will give the shirt off his back to help students understand. The class requires a lot of studying, and an expensive online HW thing, barely used. Three exams and two quizzes very little margin for error in this class. Go to tutoring and make sure you get the material.
Bagga has this idea about what weve learnt as students in the past that isnt true. He tells us weve learnt all this information in genetics, yet he didnt teach that course so how would he know? Hes very demeaning and wants to prove hes smart. His exam doesnt test how well you know the material, but how good you are at standardized tests.
Bagga does try to interest you, but his way of motivation is not encouraging for students. He thinks very highly of himself and is unwilling to notice when an exam question is unfair. He makes the homework and quizzes significantly easier than the actual exam. An exam should be about helping the students, but he only focuses on tricking us.
Becomes #1 priority. Lots to memorize and test questions are purposefully tricky. Need to know Bio1/2 and Genetics. He is very smart, has really high expectations, and teaches it like a grad school course. He is very willing to help you succeed and is compassionate. Grade consists of 3 MC tests and pop quizzes. Lab/Gene project is hard and long.
The ratings are really black and white with him. But I've had nothing but bad experiences with him. He can't admit when he's wrong and frankly he's very rude and pompous. He doesn't really do anything to help and when he corrects people he really tries to make sure you know he's above you. Not very welcoming at all...
Not very welcoming or accommodating. Clearly passionate and knows the material extremely well but cannot teach it without condescending to students. Big on participation. His tests are all multiple choice and lean heavily on confusingly worded trick questions. Memorization of the material is key.
Honestly have never hated a professor in my entire life until I had Bagga. The class itself is hard but if you study the material given on the powerpoint slides youll be fine. He is super condescending & thinks very highly of himself. If given a chance to degrade his students, he will. Class anxiety. He sucks.
Worst professor ever.
He was absolutely insane. Hardest class I took at Ramapo. His class is useless but still mandatory. Please take any other professor, hes a migraine of a professor.
Worst professor I have ever had. He is self absorbed before anything else. He repeatedly mentions that he doesn't want to degrade or embarrass students, but if given the chance he always will. His exam questions are designed to trick you. He's also overly paranoid about cheating. Unfortunately it is mandatory for bio and the only professor to take.
amazing lecturer, very inspirational, and truely cares about his students. He cares about his students that want to be there and are willing to put in the work. Bagga may sound "condescending" but its how you take it, he isnt being rude he is just being honest and truthful when he says you should know this already. Amazing professor , 10 stars
he is a smart guy, but he thinks highly of himself, which is not comfortable to deal with. there are no homework/ assignments. three tests with three pop-up quizzes. the multiple choices in tests are tricky. 80% of lecture time talking about himself and blaming students. 20% for the material.
Professor Bagga is a caring individual and teaches well. However, he only has 2 exams (minus the final) and 3 pop quizzes (quizzes are given a week before each exam). Therefore, the class really depends on 3 exams. His multiple-choice questions can be tricky. Attendance is mandatory, although no credit is given for the final grade. It's not easy.
Memorize his PowerPoints.
Dr. Bagga is truly amazing. He is truly a one of a kind professor who is very accessible out of class. He is understanding and very kind. Although his class may seem difficult, if you are truly willing to put in the work, you will succeed. He will see your efforts and work with you towards your goal. Recommend him for lab!
This professor is the closest you can get to a "medical school" experience. It's a difficult course, and work heavy. However, studying for this course helped me transition into medical school. Although I did not the best in his class, looking back, it has, and currently is, helping me.
No electronics allowed, and mandatory attendance. Don't be late. For notes, print out his slides before class and annotate them. Also review them before and after class. Use spaced repetition (Anki) for studying everyday. Be familiar with the idea of first, second, and third order questions for exams. Make sure to take advantage of tutors.
For the first two weeks, he's extremely rude, but then he becomes pretty funny and chill. Idk why but you just have to deal with it. His tests are pretty easy, despite him constantly saying that they're hard. Just review his slides regularly, and you'll be fine. On day one, he'll give lots of rules, but most are common sense like don't cheat, etc.
I didn't look before crossing the street in hopes someone would hit me before I made it to his class. Condescending, not very nice, keeps you after lab which is 3.5 hours already, I wouldn't take him again if he was the last professor on earth
He definitely takes some time to warm up to the class. First few weeks were rough, but after the first exam he calms down a little. If you know his Powerpoints, you will be fine on the exams. He can be condescending sometimes when he's answering questions, though. Be prepared to feel a little dumb if you ask him something.
Professor Bagga is a caring and understanding professor. You do have to work hard in the class, and study the class material properly!! I feel like the tests were fair, everything is usually discussed in class, so pay attention in the class. I learnt so many stuff in this class and would highly recommend taking his class.
Exams were very easy. The final project was time-consuming
