Dr. Parker makes calculus enjoyable to learn! He goes through everything step by step, and is more than happy to clarify things for you, and makes the best out of every situation!
Helpful Nice Caring Sympathetic Funny
A really helpful professor! Insightful and very funny.
Amazing, generous ,incredible,magnificent, and talented
Great work
This guy is awesome. I'm in A31 (hardest), but I love this guy. He's young, funny, knows how to teach, posts his note online, and his office hours have cookies! He's also an amateur astronomer. He's super easy to talk to and you can very easily get help from him. Better then breuss. Also, if you want a easier test, make sure you choose a Monday tut
He's amazing! He is a really nice man and answered your questions clearly. He would recall the material in the previous class and summarize at the end of class. Also, he provide exam review questions. Don't forget to come to his office hours! There's cookie, and he will answer all your questions. I finished my A32 at 65% and my A33 would be 4.0!
Parker is so down to Earth! He, in a way, makes you enjoy math! I had him for mathematics for life sciences, a new course at UTSC, and he always tried his hardest to relate the content to life science examples, whereas the other prof teaching the course never made an effort. He is also very approachable and has this great tilly hat!
It's just that after you take other math courses will you realize how good your first year calculus instructor is.
Not the best at explaining concepts and examples really cares about the students and tries hard to help students understand when asked directly outside of lecture. Really great guy, super nice and friendly.
WOW HES SO COOL
Genuinely passionate about his teachings. Cares for his students. Extremely accessible outside class as he holds office hours twice a week for an hour or more. Loved this guy.
Writes just enough, not too much but not too little. Gives good applicable examples in class and answers any questions in depth. Uses fairly simple language which makes it easier to understand complex topics.
Hes a very cool and funny prof! He gives u random facts during calc lectures and they are interesting! He has a lot of in class discussions which HELP a lot in learning the material! Overall hes a smart and helpful prof! Would recommend his as a prof!
Parker is so enthusiastic about what he does, Which makes you appreciate the course more. Especially if its a course like Calculus. Hes good at making lectures engaging and quite entertaining at times!
BEST PROF EVER. Parker is the best teacher I've ever had the pleasure of having. Thanks to his amazing lectures and thorough help during office hours, I currently have a high 90 in MAT134 at UTM. Parker covers relevant material in lectures, provides problems which prepare you for assessments, answers questions clearly, and is endlessly supportive!!
He is really nice and sometimes funny. He always tries to make the lectures engaging and interesting and he is very approachable for questions. But the examples done in class do not prepare students for term tests (which are brutally unfair).
Amazing Prof. Made first year calc super fun and always gave random interesting facts during lectures. He's very passionate about calc and enjoys what he does which makes him a great teacher. May be unclear at times but since he's super friendly, you can always ask him to clarify anything in person. AMAZING PROFESSOR.
Professor Glynn-Adey is the best prof Ive had for calculus. His lectures are amazing, he always has the class engaged and always stops to make sure everyone is following. He teaches the content step by step using language we actually understand, and he always has us laughing. Hes totally approachable and friendly! Take this class with him!
Having Parker Glynn-Adey as my professor for first year calculus is the only thing that made me not drop the course within the first week. He is very passionate about what he teaches and makes every lecture fun! 10/10 would recommend!!!
Parker was honestly the best. If you take MAT134, you should take him. He cares about his students, he's really good at explaining and is easily accessible outside of class. He's the type of prof that goes out of his way to make sure you understand content.
Parker is an amazing professor, he genuinly cares for his student and teaches the content step by step in an understandable language. However, examples given in lectures do not reflect the test questions which are brutal, to pass this course go to office hour , and do all book questions assigned.
Great teacher. Explains hard concepts clearly and makes sure the class understands them. Really enthusiastic and passionate about what he teaches.
He is the best math professor I have met up till now. He always lead student to think more than what has been written on textbook. You will find this course not only interesting but also enjoyable
I am the first year student in UTM. Parker is one of the greatest prof in UTM undoubtedly! You can actually learn a lot of useful stuffs by attending his lecture. He is so kind and funny. I still remember his quote "I am a Mathematician, not an Artist ."
I have nothing bad to say about him. He is amazing and hilarious! He really cares about you and always gives positive vibes in class! He also really tries to make math interesting (even though it's not lol). Basically the best professor I've had at UTM! 100 % recommend
Interesting and engaging lectures. Makes sure everyone is following along. Class examples are too easy though, compared to textbook questions and tests which is unfair. Office hours booked up always. Praises questions of those who come to his office hours in class... Helps with assignments if you ask - very approachable. Read textbook if confused.
Parker is probably one of the best professors at UTM. Hes sweet, enthusiastic and very approachable. On several occasions he has helped his students despite not having office hours. However, examples done in class are easy and do not reflect test questions. If your taking Mat133, the tests for all sections are made by different professor.
Parker is one of a kind. Not only does he love what he teaches, he is a compassionate and understanding person. He doesn't try to make people fail the course, he wants to make sure you have a good time in the course and enjoy what you learn. I'd say hands down he is the best calculus professor, if not the best professor period in UofT!
Prof Parker truly cares for his students, and is always super understanding (especially in the pandemic). I haven't written the final yet, but I'm going in with 98ish average. He spends time in class answering questions and is super approachable, as well as helping with assignments in office hours. He is a super friendly guy, and makes math fun:)
The best professor I ever had. His classes are actually good and you can genuinely tell that he's a good guy. His course was the only one that didn't cause a lot of stress. He gives you a lot of time to complete assignments and tests and usually allows you to skip one. Just be careful with your answers cause he wants them to be detailed.
The TA's ruined the class for me. The TA's grade the assignments and tests and they take excess amounts of points. You have to write a full page length just to explain a simple math question if you wanna get a 5/5 on that question. Emailed Parker about my concerns and he didn't help at all. The TA's will ruin your grade.
Professor Parker genuinely cares about students who take the course. If you take this course, MAKE SURE you read the textbook sections outlined within the course website as the lecture example are not complicated enough that you could get away with ignoring textbook sections and examples entirely.
I love the professor as a person, he is very nice and approachable but I feel like he cant explain the contents at MATB42. It migt just be the fact that MATB42 is a super hard course but in order to understand whats going on in class, I have to watch a yt video after each lecture to catch up
Linear Algebra can be very tedious. Professor Parker has HUGE difficulty explaining material and lecture notes. I find that he speaks on the material like, a) we already know how to complete the lecture, and b) in little to no detail. You have to basically teach yourself Algebra and if you ask him a question, his answer is "ask on Piazza"
Almost never reply on the piazza. Examples in the lecture were easy but questions on assignments are all tough. Can not explain a definition clearly. Looks friendly but actually not. He doesn't know how to teach students. Honestly, worst professor of all who taught MAT courses.
Lectures lack any sort of depth and have minimal relevance to what is tested on examinations. Would not recommend. This is coming from a very hard-working student.
NEVER reply on piazza, NEVER reply email, NEVER grade the assignment on time.
It really hurts me to say this, but he might be the worst professor I have seen at UTSC so far. Watching his lectures was waste of time (If you want good grades.). His lectures are not designed to enhance our understanding and grade, his lectures are just designed to cover 1/4 contents of the textbook, and whatever he thought was significant.
I wish I could take MATA22 with some other professor. Can depend on people, but for me, a22 with Parker was pretty un-motivating. His lectures are not that good, so if you wanna do well, you should find a goated TA and grow your own self-study habit. I think my grade wasn't that bad, but it was no fun with him so I dropped. Sorry to say all this.
Professor Parker is super nice. A lot of people say he doesn't explain the content fully, but I found his lectures engaging and fun. Assignments are fair and is super helpful in office hours. Very encouraging and great professor, really makes you love vector calculus.
lectures are very surface level, you won't have a deep conceptual understanding of linear algebra by the end of the course. lots of difficult topics squeezed into a small amount of time and have to pretty much self-teach everything which is mentally exhausting and demotivating - would NOT recommend.
He cannot teach linear algebra as his lectures are okay but he doesn't explain all his steps especially towards the end of the course. His tests are a whole different degree of difficulty compared to the material in his lectures. Overall, a very poorly designed course that is taught even worse.
Professor Parker only covers surface level material and does not teach very well. The entire course you pretty much have to self teach. He added stuff at the end that we didn't need to learn.
Lectures are essentially useless. Might as well just treat it as a self learn course from the textbook. Took his TA's a month to mark the midterm, and by the time we got it back, we couldn't even ask for regrades because they took too long. Tests have some material he has never even once mentioned in lectures. Avoid at all costs
The course gets so much better after getting through the second mid term. Parker is a really nice person. I recommend asking questions to clear up confusions during lectures and he would be happy to help. Reading the textbook also helps a lot. And that boost in the final, what more can we ask for?
Parker is definitely in the conversation for best mathematics professors at UTSC. He cares a great deal about making sure that students finish his courses with a real appreciation for the power and intricacies of mathematics.
This guy is nice in person and likes math but doesn't know how to teach properly. Put stuff on the assignments for marks but don't cover the topic in the lectures, textbooks do not help sometimes. His lectures in a22 were dogwater, too. He introduces a "sneak peek" to upper-year math courses but can't even teach current stuff properly.
Parker's lecture is great and assignments are not very difficult. However his midterm is quite late and very closed to final! I have completed all other term tests lol.
Prof. Parker was by far my favourite professor. He is kind and understanding, and he knows that students not only have lives outside of the classroom, but also that other profs may not be treating students with the same level of graciousness. He tailors assigments and tests to students' abilities, their schedules, and their mental health.
An interesting man. I used to think badly of him during MATA22 because the lecture process and conflict between another lecturer. However, if you stick to him, you may find he is a nice choice to help to get 4.0 so that a program required course can become a bird course. Practice midterm and final must finish!
I found that he teaches things tough and overcomplicates things. Also, the tests are not similar to any practice and are quite difficult
Some questions in assignments are unnecessary strange, low-relatived. But his practice midterm can be very similar to the actual midterm.
he is a chill prof and most of your grade is based on the final and term tests and assignment. overall really good class and pretty easy.
Good professor with useful learning sources. However, I think the grading speed for assignments and exams can be quicker.
Great professor. Using reasonable assignments and exams to help us learn a lot.
Teaches and treats students like they should be in a university not just kill them with tough exams that was not expected.
His lectures are very organized and easy to learn from. What I most appreciated was how clear he was about what would be on the exam. Although it was still challenging, everything asked on it was very fair and covered extensively in the course. Parker is probably my favourite prof in the school.
His lecture examples are bad. I wish Kathleen can teach MATB42. Plus, his notes lack mathematical regor in terms of defining each variable. He is often off topic and give artificial examples that are not common in real life. We students don't know why we are learning this course. How this course help prepare for the future. Simply bad.
Slides are bad because he does all the work on the board and the equal signs are horizontal not vertical but loved him he is a sweetheart and did a magic trick for us at the end of the term. Didn't understand concepts that well but still managed a good grade idk.
good prof
An EMOTIONAL DAMAGE after the first fall semester. Tough grading in homework and hardly accept regrade even if we have the same ans as what they post. Only grade 1/3 of questions so likely to mess up. HW answers no process, no anything. Lectures good atmosphere but not covering enough and require much additional reading.
Lectures barely cover any of the topics needed to complete assignments, regrade requests are done by the TAs which can be unreliable and the marking for assignments is tough as they "randomly" choose 2 out of 8 questions to mark. Not very helpful in terms the upcoming midterm as no practice is provided and students are left to fend for themselves.
Halfway through the term and I still don't understand week 1 materials, and I'm very sure more than half of the class feels this. He messes up teaching really hard concepts but doesn't clarify the very basic ones. He assumes people come in knowledgable about linear algebra.. He always leaves hard concepts & questions to TAs to teach in tutorials...
Nice professor! Midterm is as easy as PhD extrance exam.
Horrible style of teaching this semester. alot of errors in lectures. seems lost. lacks any depth to what he teaches. hard exams no practice exams, etc.
Lacks any depth and true understanding of this course. No practice exams. lectures practically useless
1. terrible Teaching Assistant grading 2. THERE ARE MATERIALS BEYOND CLASS ON ASSIGNMENT AND IT WAS MADE ON PURPOSE WHY I NEED YOU WHEN I CAN DO SEARCH AND STUDY ON GOOGLE??
HORRIBLE PROF, teaching is literally AWFUL
The way you approach his course will make or break your experience (that's why so many people dislike him) Not an easy class but he is always willing to re-explain if you come to his office or OH or lecture breaks. TAs are also super helpful during OH. Ask A LOT of questions or you WILL struggle. Assignments are hard but exams are really fair
I have never seen a professor who cares so much about their students. All around a really great and kind guy. The homework is difficult because the lectures do not cover all of it but it is doable. Quizzes are pretty easy. The lectures felt a bit useless at times tbh but everything else makes up for it
This semester is quite different from last year since we have to review everything autonomously instead of attending review seminars. Professor provided suggested problems in the textbook, absolutely helpful. Most importantly, you should connect every piece of knowledge together yourself, which is not required in B41, that's why many can't achieve.
Simply put, normal midterm and super easy final. I didn't like this course since multivariable calculus w/o the topological background or analysis is not fun at all. His assignments have fatal issues since they are "unreasonably" computation-heavy and do not force us to think in a more abstract manner with the interesting sub-theorems and results.
Parkers lectures are pretty useless, watching recordings at 2x speed is enough. Homework is difficult and most of it is not covered in lectures. Finding a good TA and other students is super helpful in understanding the concepts. Midterm and final were extremely fair and no BS were in the evaluations. Overall, hes a nice guy tho
good man. you are very easy to get an A without going to a single lesson!!!
not a good prof but he is patient. the lecture is not related with hw, but the test was okay. homework is a diaster, he always assign homework with knowledge we've never learn
Lectures are borderline useless. Goes off track 90% of the time. Never went to a single lecture after week 2 and still managed to get decent grades. Watching organic chem tutor is way better than spending 3 hours a week on his lectures. The course itself is alright but the grading schemes that the TAs have to follow is absolutely garbage.
(1/2) Bad class. Prof does not reply to emails nor does his TAs so even if you have problems, they don't respond. Homework is also extremely frustrating, confusing and demanding, while also not related to anything that he'll test you on. Only a few random questions are graded on your homework, which you will definitely suffer while completing.
(Part 2/2) Homework questions are frequently tweaked throughout the given period, making answering the damn question impossible. Tests are fair, as long as you watch organic chem tutor. But the TAs like taking marks off for fun, then proceeds to ghost you when you email them so be aware. Even if your answer is right, you might still get marks off!
Overall, Parker makes materials very digestible to understand. However, the TA's mark the homework super hard, but Parker himself is a very kind and caring person, he actually is very passionate in his lectures. And despite fellow students on here saying it's useless, it's actually not, I found the lectures super helpful if you pay attention.
Great professor with great lectures, and you can tell he cares about your learning. Overall, a fantastic professor, would take it again. However, around week 11/12 of the course, he told a joke, and he claimed it was hilarious and that he'd been telling it for 15 years. I did not laugh, and my disappointment was immeasurable and my day was ruined.
Incredibly fair syllabus, marking schemes, and assessments. Genuinely a great prof I have no complaints
out of all the profs ive had so far he is the most caring. he answers all questions, there are no stupid questions for him. he does go through the lessons really quickly though, still manageable. my TA was rlly nice but dang they mark hard- only got 1 mark for a question cause i forgot to copy the negative from the second line... pain.
great teacher just didn't like the course as i am not a math person
Sensational
He is a very kind professor. His lectures are interesting and his homework is useful. The difficulty of his midterm and final is suitable. Our course average is even B. But the tutorials teach the current week's stuff. So don't take Monday's tutorial if you don't like to preview the lecture.
Nice guy, very nice, but leaving blanks on lecture note and filling them in during class feels so dumb, feels like a lazy way to coast through lectures.
Why does he convolute the content and make it impossible to understand lol. Taking MATA29 and thank god i learned the content in HS because he does not explain a single thing and its of the simplest math courses.
This professor isn't good at teaching. He can write without talking for most of the time in lectures, which are not inspiring. And his lecture notes contain errors here and there. Homework he assigns each time also has typos. In order to do well in MATA22 he teaches, you'll have to read textbook and learn those difficult stuffs yourself.
很差,纯靠自学
wocaonima shabi
There is too little feedback in this course. It's already midterm, but the assignment grades haven't been released yet, so there are no materials available for review. The professor rarely responds on Piazza, and the course content is not structured in a coherent manner—it doesn't follow the order of the textbook.
can't teach properly
Probably the best professor I had in my first semester. Read the textbook along with the lecture notes, do some of the practice questions and you'll be alright even if you didn't take calculus in high school. The mock tests and exam are also pretty useful.
I respect Parker for MATB41, he is actually a nice prof. BUT WTF HAPPENED WITH B42 BRO U CANT DO THIS TO ME
a22 is one of the worst courses I've ever taken at utsc so far. no feedback, no nothing, we still havent got back our grades for a homework that was due literally 1.5 month ago. ****show.
I took MATB41 and had a good experience with him in fall. But what happens to him in this winter??? Has he been replaced by someone else??? The arrangement of assignments are really bad. We can't get enough practice from assignments. And the term tests even worse. We didn't get any practice exams or past exams. This is really a nightmare to me.
He's pretty goated, but his homework is pretty difficult and heavy. He does make up with easy midterms and okay-ish exam.
I had him for MATA22 and had to drop, and I now have him once again for MATB42. He doesn't hold your hand, but will also do his best to encourage you to think about things on your own. If you feel he isn't explaining something fully, it's because he wants you to try to figure it out and talk to him. If that suits you, his courses will be rewarding.
Professor is alright, he only uploads his lectures and his notes are more easier to read than Kielstra's. However the course is very disorganized and was a horrible experience. This bad review is more targeted towards the course than at Parker. However he is still the prof for this course.
Honestly this class was pretty tough but he at least made it somewhat manageable. The management around this course is godawful though and I hope is improved for his future classes as we have yet to get all of our assignments back and he never posted the solutions to ANY of them. Anywho, nice guy, alright teacher, and a bad but interesting course.
Prof. Parker is funny, interesting, and passionate. The only issue is he does not teach, rather he solves problems for himself in class and moderately explains his steps. Straight-forward with expectations and provides layout of the tests and exam, TA's aren't exactly lenient. Amazing if you've learned the content before, would avoid if not
I've never been lost on a math exam in the same way I was for this final. Prof. Parker gained our trust, making our term tests insanely simple. Then decided to recreate Chernobyl with the class average on our final. "It will be similar to the previous tests, homework, and reading guide" was the biggest lie I've ever been told in my life.
The midterm exam was tough. Three consecutive assignments were given in the last week... It was just one point short of advancing to a higher level, but he didn't give a chance to make up for it.
Ask for regrading my homework score but no response, after grades closed then tell me all system close can not be changed, why don't you help me regrade before
My favourite Math prof ever. Had him for both MATB41 and MATB42, and he's awesome. Assignments are fair and prepare you well for exams. No quizzes, which makes the courses much more enjoyable. Absolute gem at UTSC
I had him for the winter semester. He gave very engaging lectures. If you have a question, he walks you through it without answering directly, but still gets you to learn. He boosted the final grades, and it helped a lot. Parker's an actual GOAT!!
Content heavy course, slides are packed with detail. Usually had to rewatch recorded lectures to get some part of a proof. I found that attending review seminars greatly helped. His voice is pretty calming, I slept in some lectures. Sometimes teaches you how to do magic and be mindful. He also has a really nice blog.
One of the best profs. in UTSC! I hate mate but prof.Parker is beyond just a typical math prof, he cares and don't want you to stress, he answers any question especially if you went to his office and he truly wants you to do well! Exam was a bit hard but he understood that it was hard so he curved crazy! He is the GOAT!
I took MATB41 and MATB42 with him, trust me if you listen to his lecture well, you well get really high mark. this is the best professor I met in utsc.
He is kinda a nice guy, but can be extremely passive-aggressive. He does not explain well at all; rather, he solves problems and semi-explains his steps. His exams are fair, though grading is harsh.
Parker is a really chill and caring prof who clearly wants students to do well, but his teaching can feel very surface-level. He rarely goes into depth during lectures and will often solve problems without much explanation. He's straightforward about midterms, so staying on top of practice problems and using office hours + extra help is important.
Parker is pretty chill. He does his best to form good rapport with his classes. His lectures are just demonstration with explanation, but sometimes he might forget to explain something so all you need to do is ask and he'll be happy to explain. The final (curved up) was harder than the term tests so don't slack off and keep up with practicing.
Professor Parker is really caring. I do find that he explains the material mostly well. Honestly, as long as you do the reading guide questions, attend the tutorials, and just practice, you'll be fine. The midterms were really straightforward, but the final exam was tough.
He does not provide much explanation during lectures and it is very surface level. For example, he never taught Riemann Sums at all but had a whole question for it on the final. He is very straightforward with the midterms but the final will hit you hard if you don't prepare very well. He is also extremely passive aggressive...
