he makes the class teach the class.. he assigns each ch. in the book to 2 people in the class and you go presenting it everyday the laziest teacher in the world but give u questions to the exam before hand and final paper 5 to 6pgs that i doubt he reads

Easiest class ever. If you need to boost your gpa then this is the class to take. However, if you would like to learn about sociology, then forget about it. He does not teach the class. The class teaches the class. It is impoosible to fail his class!

He is very easy, but you'll sleep in class all semester. He makes students teach the entire textbook with presentations so it's very boring. However, he gives all the essay questions for the midterm and the final in advance. Easy A.
He is one of the better sociology professors. His classes are very interesting and full of valuable knowledge. This is also an easy class.

THE worst professor I have ever had; denigrates the sociology department. Who cares about grades if you learn almost nothing. GPA should take a back seat to actually learning, the reason we are in college! Student presentations? Nothing more than reading directly from a paper or incoherent mumbling.

this prof is ok. he likes to make the students teach the class so he can sit back and do nothing. he gives the essay questions before the midterm and final so thats helpful. i better get at least a B+
So Boring! Does not teach anything! the whole semester is giving presentations by students who read off the slides. But he is very easy. Gives the exam essay questions before the midterm and final which also includes a few multiple choice which are mostly common sense. But beware the class is a total bore, bring something to do, attendance required
Saran isn't a good professor coz basically he never teaches the class.Yet, the problem lies in the textbook but not him. The book is quite difficult. IMO,if u can understand the text by yourself, u will find out that sociological theories are very interesting. If u don't, even if Saran is explaining them to u one by one, U still dun get it.
In a school where it gets damn hard to get A's in your major classes, I am definitely glad to get an easy A class. You do have to study a little bit, but its not bad at all. Take it if you want to get a good grade, I could care less if I learn, gpa is too important to care about learning a bs class that is a requirement. Learn in your major classes
He is really boring, but very easy. He gives essays before exams to study from, just learn the basics from the textbook and you'll do good on his exams. He is lazy though, makes the class teach by doing presentations on the chapters, which you could present by just reading off the slides or a piece of paper and you're good.
Not a bad professor. He makes u present a topic from the book so you are teaching yourself and the class. His exams are ok although i wasnt quite sure why i got a B+ when i had an A average all along.for the exams he gives you essays ahead of time so have the opportunity to do well. I recommend you take him and you will do well.
You will pass his class, but with what grade. He does not teach anything in his class, it only student presentations and then he ask you to write 3 essay for his exams on some ridiculus topics.
Whoever says he is easy is mistaken.How can he be easy if he doesn't TEACH at all?Students presentations the whole sem.,sooo boring that coming to class is painful.I'm an A- student on average but I like classes where u learn smthg.even if u do a little work. Oh, Gosh, this man is crazy. He does not teach and have the students do all the work by teaching the chapters (student presentations). What type of learning experience is that? I mean, everyone just read from their papers and they are not teaching at all. So, honestly, if you are in his class, study on your own If not, DO NOT TAKE THIS DUDE.
HE IS A VERY EASY PROFESSOR. He does not teach at all, just discussions with the class. The whole semester is listening to oral presentation from other students, which is boring but easy. Midterm and final he gives you questions that are going to be on the test and you have to pick 3 out of them. If youre lazy you should take him

He is a very dedicated professor. You just have to study and pay attention, and you will do great.
Older guy. I like this professor! This is what all college professors should be like. No babysitting but not incredibly difficult. You learn without going crazy. Just read the book and pay attention in class. You get to present without time constraints. Awesome! Take him!
don't really like his methods of teaching. Taking him you'll have to learn all material from the textbook or from student's "presentations", with only some of them clearly understandable. I put it "very hard" because for me it was too much reading in the short period of time.
Class was easy, he has a bad method of teaching, because he doesnt, the students teach the class, but he gives the essay questions for the test and some M.C questions. Most questions are common sense. Too much reading for short amount of time, because it was a summer class. Come to class, do a presentation, and skim the chapters, Easy A for anyone.

Easy,but boring class, I did crosswords the entire time. Only need to read your chapter for presentation, and skim the book to answer the exam essay questions he gives out in advance. Mid/Final, 5 or 6 questions, have to answer 3 on the exam. If you listen occasionally, you will do fine on the few M/C ques.

Easy teacher, easy midterm and final. Almost straight from the summary part of the book. But you do need to memorize those in order to get an A. The essays for the Midterm and Finals is basically free for all. Just write things to fill up a page and he doesn't read it but gives full credit. The presentation cannot read straight from the paper tho.
very easy professor, an easy A, u only have to sit the class and listen to the presentations 20 minutes each. that will kill the whole semester. one nidterm and 1 final, 5 questions are given weeks before and u can choose any 3 for the midterm and the final, one book summary that u can make up after skimming some book related to the topic.
too easy! gives us the questions for the essay part before and all u have to know is the main defination of each chapters which wel b on it as a MC. aimin for A average!!
absolutely do not agree with the previous comments. I studied hard for this class and did not get an A. wrote more than 2 pages for each essay,well-organized, and still did not get full credit for them.
Be prepared to read/skim the textbook. Students do the presentations for each chapter. 1 midterm 1 final. Only MCs and Essays: but topic given beforehand! MCs can be very specific though. Need some effort to get A.

I took his class in the summer 06, very easy and chill techer.... All you have to do is do ur presentation, which is pretty easy too cuz u have 3 people to read 1 chapter. I didn't even read the book and got like 37 out of 40 on his exam.. Take him, Highly recomend if you wato get an A and don't have a lot of time reading the material and doing all
Excellent Professor the best for SOC 1005..All you have to do come go to sleep and leave.Like I midterm and one final.Plus there is one group presntation on a chapter form the book.There isn't alot of studying in this class compared to other sociology professors just one book.I highly recommend you take him.I had a B+ as the final grade!
His class is a joke. You sit around listening to students teach the class and some boring videos. You want an easy A take him.
EASIEST CLASS!! Go to class, sleep, and do a presentation just once with a group of two other pple. TOO EASY! Don't even have to work on presentation much cuz it's all in the book! He doesn't teach much but we do. Boring class but easy! Midterm and Final have MC and Essay AND he gives you the essay question b4 hand! EASY A!!!!

2 exams:essays and mult choice questions, for which you must know the material.You have to make a presentation once. The class is not difficult. If you want just to pass the course take this prof. If you want something more interesting take smb else. He just has a different system of teaching, mostly by presentations. Overall he is a good professor

This professor is CRAZY boring. The students do all the work. You don't need to use the text book. Just listen to what people say in their presentations, and use that for the exams (he gives you the questions beforehand). Make sure you have what he asks for in the exams, and write a lot. ;0) EASY CLASS!

I honestly believe the other students really cannot understand this professor. He gives you things to think about, instead of only using the text. I've taken 2 of his classes and understood exactly what he instructed and what he explained in the class. College students are just too lazy
This guy is so lazy. I got a B+ without doing any work.
He is not helpful at all. Doesn't teach and expect students teach instead of him. He gives exams where there are some multiple choice questions and 5 essey questions. He gives essey questions before the test but he grades them very poorly. You never known what to write because maybe he won't like it or he will not agree with your point of view.
Prof. Saran is useless. I'm an A student, who loves to learn, but I didn't learn anything from him. He doesn't teach, doesn't provide reading assignments on the syllabus, no contact info if you need to reach him, the book we used was poorly written and out-dated, the videos were also out-dated. He has tenure so he doesn't care. Don't take him!

The book on India was outdated so the info was no longer accurate. He is a horrible professor who teaches from the age of the book. Takes NO CARE AT ALL in his profession. A professor so withdrawn from his profession should retire.
Terrible professor. He didn't explain anything.During every test you have to answer M/C questions plus write 3 essays!!!!If you can write 3 essays and answer M/C questions during one hour you can take him. Otherwise stay away

He Don't teach any thing in class, very useless, you can never get A in this class no matter how much hard you work, even you read the whole text, he is not at all clear what he wants in midterm and finals. and he don't even read what you write, just count pages of your blue book, keep him away or you are #U*K UP
If you like structure this is not the class for you. He can be boring at time and he does little lecturing. The bulk of the class is done from presentation that each student must do. If you need an easy class take him.

Worst prof ever! Mumbles 98% of the time, 2% is when he says, "you know" at the end of his sentences. Doesn't teach a thing, students are responsible for presentation based on one chapter per person. Midterm 4 essays, Final 6 essays. That's 1 chapter per essay. Doesn't read them, he counts pages, so fill up that book for a B. Good luck getting an A

One of the worst professor for Sociology in the Baruch. Does not teach anything, just make different groups and require them to present all the chapters and he takes only fifteen minute to conclude the whole chapter. He has two exams which has two parts: essay and multiple choice. His mcq are really hard. He does not rephrase the question.
Easy class.Exams are bit hard for the tricky multiple choice questions. You have to say something everyday in order to get full credit in participation. However, the class is very boring!! Overall,ok professor.
Useless, a waste of space; he just sits there. Teach yourself for the A. I don't know if he reads the essays but he certainly cares how long they are - write out the phone book if you have to, but don't leave a margin! The M/C is all book - chapter summary will get you only 90% of them, you need to read beyond for the A.
Both me and my friend in this class literally played games on our laptops the entire semester. Just reword the text book for ur presentation and show up for class and ull be golden fyi i got an A- and he got a B+ (but he still sucks)

I am taking the summer w/him, everything is true. He is boring so are his outdated videos, (he says they're relevant but refuses to find current news to support that). He does little lecturing. The chapter summary/outline project is online at McGraw Hill. He must compare yours with the online one. This guy is lazy. Its such a disappointment.
Worst prof in Baruch. The school should not let people over 75 teach. Everything he uses is outdated, even the textbook edition he assigned is discontinued. Avoid! waste of my precious money!
Okay I don't know what these other people are talking about. We had 2 exams (Mid Term Final) and a group project. Yeah he's mad lazy but if the topics aren't to bad and he tells you all the topics on the exam. Hes a good guy tho, Saran is THE MAN
Stupidly easy class. Warning bring some type of entertainment for the hour your in class cause it's a snoozer. He does nothing and when he speaks you can barely understand him. Still did minimal work and got an A-. Take him and catch up on some sleep lol
Professor Saran has a unique style. The class was based on presentations; there was one for each chapter with the exception of the first and last chapters. He presented those to introduce the class and to finalize and summarize the class. It's a 3000 level course, so the exams aren't to simple. However, he grades based on his opinions.
Pretty nice has his off days where he can get a little snappy. You teach each other so he doesn't talk much but when he does it's hard to understand him. But if you do the little amount of work he give and review chapters before tests you'll be fine.
AVOID this teacher unless your looking for an easy A and a place to sleep for an hour and a half. Learned nothing.. required one easy group presentation and 2 tests which were a bit tricky. NO homework, and takes attendance at the end of class. Didn't learn much in this class and would have preferred a more passionate professor.
Great teacher. best Ive ever had. Talks extremely clearly, is super understanding and is a very fair grader. This is the most interesting class ever and let's face it, he's dead sexy.
This guy is mad lazy, he literally doesn't do anything. Attendance is mandatory. The class consists of student lectures which act like the professors lecture. His tests are multiple choice from the book and essays are common sense stuff. Take for an easy A but not if you want to learn something.
Horrible professor. Doesn't do anything but sit there and listen to the presentations that he assigns. When he does talk you can't hear or understand half the things he says. Gives good grades only to people he likes. Asks too many personal questions that I think people shouldn't have to answer just to get a good grade.

Not the best sociology professor at Baruch but his class is easy. Grades are based on in class presentation, midterm and final. Midterm and final are each 19 MC and 3 essay questions each. If you study from the textbook, you will get an easy A.

Extremely boring class where you will learn absolutely nothing. If youre trying to get a B, then you will have an easy time getting it. He gives A's exclusively to people he likes. Although he wants participation, participating will hurt your grade. Wants 3 essays on Mid/Final which he does not read and also grades exclusively on handwriting/length
This class is very confusing. No-one worked more than me or got better grades than me and he gave me a B+, while people who didnt show up at all he gave A. says participation is 10% yet ones who didnt participate got A's and ones who did got B and less. Tests have absolutely random questions from book with 2-3 possible answers. DONT TAKE HIM
He is the best Professor. He is so chilled. One midterm one final and one presentation. Great advice for midterms and final - He only goes according to the length of the essays at the end, make sure they are a page and a third each.
He is far from the best professor. In fact he is rather despicable as a professor. He is tenured and he simply does not care. You're right though he does grade entirely based on the length of what you write. Couldn't even take the time to write a single word explaining why we received the grades we did on our exams, just gave a number. Minimal work
He doesn't teach but gives his unclear summaries of every presentation then class participation. He just doesn't care, you can eat, talk or text during class; what is better than that? Sociology is supposed to be fun, but he just doesn't have the energy and charisma to make it exciting.
I would never recommend this professor. He simply does not care about you and about the class. I had a hard time understanding what he was saying because his english is not clear at all. BORING BORING BORING......
