Mediocre teacher at best-Hardly teaches, just reads from pwrpoint. In summer, she assigned/tested the same 17 chapters that you would nrmlly go thru during a full semester, which isnt bad but test questions cover trivial**** (what is the income of a qualified investor) but skipped over major sections of the book (like the whole insurance chapter).
DOES NOT TEACHES... She goes to class unprepared and expects the students to teach for her, pop quizzes about things she doesn't explain. She makes Eco hard!
She ramble on about the material that you can easily read in the book, and doesn't bother to go over examples other than from PP (few & far between). Nice woman, and very knowledgable about Risk Mgt, but has a hard time teaching it. Only take if you WILL read every chapter and take time to do A LOT of problems from book cause she's no help!!!!
She is very knowledgeable but she doesn't teach. She carries a lecture but she is totally unaware that the class does not have the same level of understanding. The exams are hard. Questions are soo detailed that only a professional would know. I hate myself for registering for this class. I should've known when there was no comments for her.
The tests are hard but manageable. You have to go to the classes because she will do pop-quizzes. But they are open book (more for attendance than anything else). Just read the book and zone out for the class and you should be fine. The final was scan-tron and its going on two weeks without posting a grade...not cool.
She is very knowledgeable there is no doubt about it but she just can?t teach. She assumes your knowledge and understanding of covered material is the same as hers. Lectures are not useful and you have to read the whole textbook. Plenty of writhing assignments and she is very critical in grading them without giving you any feedback. Exams are hard,
Absolutely loved her class. Interesting material, fair exams
Professor sucks! Does not teach whatsoever! Spends the whole lecture discussing worldly matters which is wonderful but not when you see her test and shes never taught a thing on it before! If you are good at learning material on your own its an easy A, but a boring waste of time!
Anyone knows if she teaches Management 4551 and what was, or current experience with her. Thanks much!
I don't really know about her teaching style. I think she is ok. She knows a lot of Macroeconomic, but it seems like she doesn't know how to pass them to us.
Run away and do not look back. The worst prof ever.
Taking her now. Class is absolutely boring. SHE DOES NOT TEACH. Discusses completely random economics data. If I ever see The Dismal Scientist again, I would scream. Exams are COMPLETELY unfair. Ignores main economics topics and instead asks ques about footnotes. I'm an honors student - struggling in the class. NOT RECOMMENDED.
This class was excellent. She gives you material about real life, not purely academic info you will never use. Secondly, she is super knowledgeable and had major experience in the business world, so she knows what is in demand. All the bad comments I saw here are from slackers who want easy A's and end-of-the-chapter tests. She gives extra credit.
I like her a lot.She is very smart. Her jokes are funny.I don't need professor to tell me what's in the book-I can read myself. If you A student you will get A.My favorite class in this semester.
Professor reviews the course material and offers practice exams to gauge the student's understanding of the material. Quizzes every once in a while, a presentation, FOMC meeting analysis, and other writing assignments.
She's very knowledgeable but she could be more engaging with the class. An entire lecture session is dull. Also, late on posting assignments. Quizzes are do at home assignments which can be copied when turned in to class.
Biggest joke of a class at Baruch. It was so easy! A couple of short written assignments...but at least that means no essays in the exams! You also develop good habits from keeping up with current events. Really nice professor, you could def learn a lot from her: she just doesn't know how to teach very well. Nice smooth riding class!
She is a terrible teacher, difficult to understand and i would never recommend this class to anyone. She adds assigments that were not in the syllabus. She would, on occasion, hold the class later. Her tests are not reflective of what she taught in class. The textbook is okay but you need to study the book for exams, no need to study her lectures.
This class was flat out a waste of my time. She covered 3 chapters in the first 12 weeks, then covered an additional 9 in the final 4 weeks. Her grading was extremely generous, but I learned nothing. It's really a shame because I wanted to learn more about econ, and this class likely completely turned off my interest in pursuing that career path
She has the credentials but thinks her students are in middle school. She teaches slope calculations in a 3000-lvl course. I rather she go over the impt stuff that's going to be on her exam and let "those" students go to her on their own time. She ends up rushing through the end of the semester. Unfortunately she is the only option for this course.
Parul Jain is insane, incompetent and will ruin your GPA. She grades down b/c you can't read her mind. Never take a class from her. Never. I am an A student and I got a C in her class. She grades down if you implement her suggestions b/c she doesn't remember making them. She will ruin your semester and your GPA. RUN AWAY
I think she is an okay professor. The class get a little boring as expected since it's Eco class. The exams are bearable and fair. She is actually not as bad as you might think.
nice lady, cares about her students' grades. exams r easy, except for a few tricky questions here + there. She gave 2 1-page papers that are worth <5% of your grade. likes to spend the 1st half-hour of class discussing current economic data. Easy A as long as u read the textbook and slides. Also, her practice quizzes r good review for the exams.
She is nice and friendly. She tries to make the class interactive and fun. She uses external sources to make the course related to our real life. However, her lectures are not quite useful since all the questions from the exams are basically from the textbook. Read the textbook and do the study guide, you will get an A.
Great prof. Not an easy class, but she makes it as clear and enjoyable as possible. If you keep up with the reading you'll do fine. There is a lot of reading and writing. Not much homework. Midterm and final, a couple of take home quizzes and a group presentation. You will learn a lot from her. Take her class.
Enthusiastic. Wants students to get involved in discussions. Most of class time spent on current events which we do not get graded on. Very slow in beginning, then rushed towards end of semester. Surprisingly generous grader. Many interesting discussions in class, but test materials you must learn on your own. She is kind of mean.
I think she worst teacher in baruch, She just reads from pps, her explanations are unclear, and when smbd asks her a questions, instead of explaining she tells them to see her in the office instead. some question from test were not in the book. Worst experience i had in baruch with her, total gpa killer. Dont take her.
She spends 75% of class time on current events, makes up assignments that aren't in the syllabus, and constantly lectures us about the importance of being on time when she herself often walks in 5 minutes late. That said tests are mostly straight out of the book and not terribly hard so just read it and you'll be fine.
Just know that you will be overloaded with lots of homework, quizzes...attendance is mandatory. Midterm and Final 50 Q's and a presentation. She is nice, talk to her and ask her questions, if you participate and do all the hw's you will do fine!
First, i just want to say that she's knowledgeable, but she should not teach. She reads of ppt, and is very unclear when explaining. The worst part is that she deviates off topic constantly. There were over 15 chapters covered, and most of them were rushed towards the end without teaching it. She should teach a few concise chapters rather than rush
One of the best economists in the country. Be interested in the class and you will see the treasure box open.
Probably one of the most boring classes you will EVER take! She also does not teach at all in her class, she just talks about current events and maybe goes over a chapter when there's 10 minutes of class remaining. No ppt, no lecture notes, just you teaching yourself. Read the text and know every little detail because you will be tested on it.
Last week, before final, she added 4 chapters ,never previously reviewed, plus tons of homeworks and presentations. Impossible!!!
Had her before, but was forced to take her since no other professor was open. She teaches basically the same material in every class. She is boring, spends way too much time on current events, and then rushes everything at the end of the semester. She's not a hard grader, but gives a lot of assignments and take home quizzes that are time consuming.
Professor Jain is an amazing professor. She has through knowledge of the subject matter and explains it in such away that allows for her students to articulate their thoughts and reasonings regarding economic policy. Also, she led the Fed Challenge group which as a result I am not hoping to join next year and also take Baruch to the Semi-finals.
Amazing Professor! Must take if you want true in depth analysis about financial markets and monetary policy.
Excellent professor, Brilliant economist! Always available after class. The material is dense but she makes every attempt to generate interest in the class. You will benefit the most if you participate in the class discussion
Very helpful professor and available outside class. Economics and monetary policy can be dry subjects at times but she does her best to show enthusiasm and deliver the subject material to students. Exams are straight out of the textbook, and homework is not heavy. Definitely take her.
Always easily accessible and open to go to and ask questions. She usually gives a huge pack of questions a week before a major test. These questions will probably on the test in some shape or form
A teacher that you can go to and easily ask any questions that you may have. Is very direct and easy to folloe
A nice and helpful professor
She is the one of best professors in Baruch. Seriously I have learned a lot from this class. Her approach is very practical and help you make an intelligent conversation with recruiters. If you want to get a front office position or analyst in business world, this class is A must-take. tests are not hard at all, and grading is absolutely fair.
Great professor and really brings the real world into the classroom. I really appreciated that she forced us to write short papers on economic data results. They are great talking points for interviews. Her tests are also fair and use the book's test bank so everything you need to know is in the textbook.
Nice and helpful professor. You will learn lot of things about current events and how you can apply the textbook knowledge to the real world.
Very interesting class. Recommended to take. She is very helpful outside of classroom and understand students needs. She is very humane professor, and it was pleasure to take her. Course is not hard, you will study and she will reward you if you actively participate.
She is very nice but she talks a lot of nonsense. No need to go to class everyday. There is a lot of projects (3). Most of them were due around finals time. There is 4 quizzes and 1 midterm and 1 final. I would take her again it wasn't that difficult.
Great Professor. She connected the economic theories to the real world. Would not mind taking her again.
She is a great professor. I enjoyed her class and actually learned a lot. She connects the real world to class so you can actually see how what you learn is relevant. Kind, and intelligent professor that cares for students who put an effort in. Take her! The class is not that much work, just a few projects and a presentation.
A pleasure to have taken. The course will challenge you, but Mrs. Jain is extremely helpful and clear in teaching the material. She does a great job at connecting the textbook material to real world application. Strongly recommend.
She's fair. Plain and simple. If you are expecting her to spoon feed you, then this isnt the class. She gives interesting assignments, she gives exams that are from slides vs. lecture, she will teach you how to think for yourself. the class will challenge you in the best way. If you get a B or better, you did well with her.
Professor Jain is amazing!her lectures are clear. She is a helpful professor. She brings us to the real macroeconomics world, eg. collect the accurate data of unemployment rate and compute the average. She also invites some economists to speak in our class. I have learned a lot from this class. I strongly recommend you to take her class.
So hard to stay focused, alert and awake when she's just going on and on without stopping for breath. You cannot argue with her, let alone try. She deducts points off papers without explanation. Avoid if possible.
Take this class with Taghi Ramin. Class average was a B-. Took this in a summer session. HW/Assignments due every class. 2 Exams 35% and 45% of grade. Exams MC + a few essays.
Lectures - pointless. The first day of class i thought she was going to be a a good professor. I was wrong. You gotta work for the A. Gives midterm practice before the test and those are similar to the test. Read the text, memorize the ppt, go through the review questions and you can pull of an A with hard work
the woooooooooooooorst. especially over a summer
Confusing.
We want Taghi Ramin back.
Nope.
Her classes have been improving my self-learning skills
avoid
I understand that this is a half-semester course that only meets once a week, but let's face the facts: 1) We've had one and a half lectures. You spend the first half of our first lecture together introducing yourself, and we've only met twice. 2) You're testing us on Four Chapters. 3) We didn't do any serious practice in class Self-teaching...
Cannot teach. Goes at her own pace - not concerned with students who are confused. Like a factory with a quota and deadline, she will shove material down your throat, even if you've been choking since forever. DONT DO IT. IT IS NOT WORTH IT.
Why give us a practice test if you're not going to go over it before our midterm?
Gotta drop this class because it is now impossible.
Not the way a class should be taught, period.
Rushes to get through material, cramming it down your throat even though you've been choking since two chapters ago. Then expects you to know it by the next time you're in. Listen, I know this is grad school, but saying that you don't test what you don't teach when you consider cramming material down our throats as adequate coverage. DO NOT TAKE.
Says she doesn't test you on what she hasn't covered. Then she does the following: 1) "Teaches" by just rushing through things 2) Tests you on what she hasn't covered. She "covered" 3 chapters, but we're being tested on 5. Her "coverage" is subpar, to say the least. I highly recommend taking a different professor for this class for GPA
Tests you on what you haven't been taught. That being said, can't really teach either. So, does it count as being tested on what you've been taught if you haven't really been taught after all? Interesting. Unlike this professor. Do not take - stay away
Not a quality instructor.
Professor Jain is a fabulous instructor. Often, she teaches in a relatable way by linking class material to current events in the business world. One Midterm, final, quizzes, group paper, interesting case studies. Prof. Jain is always available during office hours; overall she is very helpful and the class was rewarding. I highly recommend her!!
I seriously don't understand the poor reviews. READ THE BOOK and read it before you show up to class. If you don't read the book, you will be lost because economics is really tough. She isn't exactly the most organized person, but her lectures are good. She gives plenty of practice material on BB, so if you do poorly its on you, it's not her fault.
I thought Parul was a great professor. She went our of her way to schedule additional office hours and she held additional review sessions for both the midterm and final. Material tested was only over stuff covered in class. Also, I felt she actually cared about whether we understood the material.
Not organized well
One of the best professors at Baruch. She made Macro interesting to everyone. Healthy balance of theory and real world experience. Forecasting economics indicators was fun and I won "forecaster of the month award".It does take quite a bit of time to do group projects but it is so worth it especially if you want to pursue career in finance
Professor Parul Jain is definitely one of the best teacher at Baruch. She made the subject interesting and practical. I not only learnt the theory but also the application of that knowledge. I would definitely recommend.
Professor Jain is one of my favorites at baruch! She is very understanding and makes difficult material easy to comprehend. Will definitely take again!
Highly recommend this professor for Finance and Economics majors. She was involved in Bloomberg projects and constantly links the material to her experience and real life situations, so you could think beyond pure equations. It's not an easy class and you definitely have to work on it, but professor's explanation makes it quite easy to comprehend.
Prof. Jain explained concepts really well and I understood many things for the first time. However the course was challenging so be prepared to put in time, but prof. is very accessible and her office hours are extensive. Do not hesitate to go and ask questions it worked very well for me. She is one of the best professor at Baruch that I had.
Prof. Jain explained concepts well and I understood many things for the first time. Though the course was challenging so be prepared to put in time, but prof. is always available after class, her office hours are extensive. Do not hesitate to go and ask questions. Prof. knows her stuff and was always there to talk after class . Very patient and clear, explains using real business examples for she worked in big financial companies before. I learned a lot from someone who loves the subject. Be prepared to put in time and register early since her classes fill up fast. Will take her again.
One of the best professor's I've had, she is very knowledgable and always available to help students. She relates the material to current events which makes it much more interesting. It's definitely one of the best classes I've taken and she is a brilliant professor. She's also super nice and caring.
Awesome prof!
Learning lots and lots this semester. More than any of my other classes at Baruch!
Very knowledgeable
Professor Jain is one of the best professor I have come across at Baruch College. She cares about her students and is always willing to help. She is knowledgeable about the subject and always relates it to the current events in order to help us gain a better realistic understanding of the concept.
Best prof. at Baruch. Learned so much. Great class.
her focus is showing you the way around Moody's and teaching you the basics of forecasting and analyzing index numbers/info. critiques your writing so you can be prepared to work in the eco/fin world. REALLY useful class. 2 exams, a few papers, all very easy. follow along with her BB readings if you really want to get the most out of this course.
The way she taught advanced macroeconomics was different from almost every other economics class I took at Baruch, and I mean that in a good way. She tried to show us how the theories we learn actually apply to the real world, and we looked at real world data all the time and had to conduct analysis (both qualitative and quantitative). Good class.
spring '16. curved class. a few ez assignments such as take home quizzes, individual and also group papers, 1 group presentation. u learn a lot from her but in terms of exams its basically a self learning class so study the slides. 1 midterm 1 final both same format. mostly multiple choice but remainder is question and answer. not ez, not 2 hard.
Even if you do not like economics, prof. Jain will make you enjoy it and want to come to her class. I earned a lot from this class. she really loves economics and her students, always available to answer questions. Trust me you wont regret taking her class. not an easy A, but not a hard one either.
Taking Prof. Jain for second time, wonderful professor who knows her stuff. She explains the real world economics so well, very knowledgeable about the fed Reserve. Lots of practical discussions and presentations. She is always available in her office and willing to answer questions. You need to do your readings and put in time, but grades are fair
The best prof. I ever had. Real good.
Just finished a course with this prof. Learned a lot, but gotta work hard. But all worth it.
Writes her own reviews..... Enough said
The most painful class I have ever had. -She is very strict, treats you like a child. -Will drone on and on about things that have nothing to do with the exam. -Gives arbitrary quizzes and assignments that counts towards your grade I would NEVER take this class again
I learned a lot in Prof. Jain's class. Just got a job and the stuff she taught really really helped me nail it. Best prof. that I have ever had. Wish all my profs had been like her.
Awesome and very nice professor. I remain in touch with her. Learned so much from her, though I had to work really really hard!
Professor Parul Jain has been teaching this course truly as a graduate course. I am happy I chose her for she made sure we are not wasting our time in her class. She goes above and beyond the textbook and she does require you in the test to master the knowledge from class, book, and extra materials. She is very good at returning graded materials.
Professor Jain was absolutely great! She made the lectures very engaging and interesting, not just flipping through slides unlike other professors. She also dedicates time outside of classroom and gives a fair curve. Would definitey take her again!
