Challenges you to think, the mind workout helps for later accounting classes
Extremely helpFul, wants students to succeed, all old test are on the internet
He is a good prof. Exams are hard but you learn a lot.
Best Prof I've had so far, clear, fair, but be ready to work.
Best prof at GVSU. He wants you to do well.
So awesome!! Very friendly and helpful outside of class. THe old test on inter
Very nice and he wants you to do well
Highly recommended. Makes class interesting, wants you to do well.
Great sense of humor, good analogies, 10 X better than R. Grant for 212.
If you want to do well in this course, do not take any other classes!
I didn't like him. Tends to talk down to students.
Great prof, he is tough but really cares about how well students do.
Very organized prof. Has old tests on web and uses good examples.
Talks down to students when they don't understand the material..not approachable
nice guy but lots of work.

Is a very good teacher. Study previous test from course info, can't go wrong.
Can seem intimidating at times. Tries hard to help you figure it out.
knows what he is talking about get your money worth
Very hard to understand, talks down to students, overall I did not care for him
As long as you study from old exams on the net & ask him ?s, you'll be fine!
Great professor, meets you half way, really helpful. You get your money's worth!
Goes quick - Gives a lot of examples - Challenging class
Lots of work, Hard Class, but you learn a lot
very hard to understand
Helpful, friendly, smart. One of the best profs. in GVSU
GREAT! Very organized, tells you what he expects. Time consuming, but worth it
A good professor, gives you lots of study aids

Excellent Professor! Highly recommended by students and faculty.
Great guy, very helpful! Take this prof!!!!
gives lots of examples, a lot of work but you learn a ton!
Very good teacher no homework, tests kinda hard
VERY clear about material. old exams on BB. make sure to participate in class!
Don't be late, he'll make you sit in the front. not clear at ALL!!!
Professional and fair. Testing is very intensive and stressful (quizzes/tests)
Good teacher. Expects alot. Hard tests and quizzes
Very hard class for non-accountants! Tests graded on curve (Thank God).
Very clear and understandable. Shows great enthusiasm for the material.
Very good & helpful teacher, good because very hard material. Grades on a curve to save us all.
one of the best MBA professors at GVSU; excellent teacher; it is difficult, but not overbearing; is as good as Nader or Sundarim
Very willing to help. Overall great prof.
Easy grader, huge curve. Don't bother buying book. Just study old tests. Great at lecture, very interesting. Really fun class. Almost never had to stay entire time.
Makes accounting practical and interesting. Class actively applies cost accounting concepts, for example, to improve bottom line performance of your company. Parvez is a master at teaching this class. Take him!
Great prof! Funny! Makes accounting interesting. Exams are hard, but tells you what to expect & gives old exams to study. Grades (generously) on a curve. Buy textbook with others & photocopy problems. Powerpoints & lectures give all notes needed.
Great Prof. but dont expect an easy A.
Best Prof. in the acc. dept. He knows his stuff and teaches it well. Take him and pay attention and you'll be fine. Notes are given, don't buy the book...just photo copy the required problems.
Very enthusiastic about the coursework. Able to hold the interest of the class by using real world examples and having a great knowledge of the subject matter. Difficult, but very fair. Will make time to answer questions and provide help.
Easy? Hardly- makes cost acct very confusing- Fin acct is much easier. Huge project- no direction
I actually learned something in the class. He explained it and I understood. The class is not easy, but if you take the time to study for things, it shouldn't be too bad. I had him at 6pm and actually didn't get tired!
By far the best ACC prof at GVSU. However, it's still a difficult class. The final is very difficult and there is a project that takes months. Overall he's a great teacher, but a difficult class.
Keep up with the class and you will do fine. Don't procrastinate on the project! Don't buy the book. He gives you everything he uses in class. Study practice tests! Great Professor!
I am sure that he knows his stuff, but he is not real nice. He stares at the clock before class starts, and if you are a minute late you have to sit up front and deal with nasty looks. Its MI, and the roads get crappy in the winter, LIGHTEN UP, Prof!
Don't buy the book. He will give you what you need. Study practice exams. Start early on the project and ask him questions-it will help. Difficult material so keep up. Final, midterm and project only. HMWK is optional
A ton of work if you want an A. Gives only 2 hours for tests so understand HOW he wants you to answer questions or you will waste valuable time. Don't but the book. Good Prof, talks fast.
GREAT professor!!! It isn't easy, but you learn a ton. Budget your time on the exams. Ask lots of questions.
Funny guy, gets excited, "UUUUSED resources", BUT hard to gleam from at first. DONT BUY THE BOOK, waste of money. Study past exams and ask questions.
Very good at what he does, but very hard professor. Expects you to hink like a cost accountant right off the bat. Exams are extremely difficult, but he does curve. Ask A LOT of questions and study old exams and you should do fine. Would take again. He has a lot to offer as a prof.
Do Not Buy Book!! Study old tests over and over!! Hard exams, especially the final, but does curve. Not too many A's, but the teacher is very helpful and understanding. More teachers should be like him!!
You will have assigned seats for the entire semester and won't be allowed in your seat unless you are there by the time class starts Don't buy the book.He is very difficult to understand since he talks so fast.He goes over simple examples and glosses over the longer ones yet those are on the test
Good Prof, but very hard
Best professor I ever had. You learn a lot from him. Do your work and you get A.
I hope he's gotten better. Had him in '92, dropped in a week. Couldn't understand a thing.
Took his course in the MBA program in the late 90's. Accounting was something I had little interest in prior to the course, but he actually got me interested in how accounting could be used as a very effective tool in my work. Cool guy, had no problem understanding him at all. I'd recommend his 611 class to anyone. S.Wagner MBA
Great Professor. He expects a lot of students but is willing to do whatever it takes to help them learn. Really gets excited about the class and really cares about the students.
Hands down the best prof ever! He expects a lot but is very knowledgeable and helpful. Go to class!
He had the following characteristics: he tended to refute the direction that the textbook explained on subjects covered; he had a mandatory seating chart; thick accent; a problem with students using the restroom during “his hour and a quarter” of class-time; and a slanted grading scale depending if you properly answer his questions in class.
GVSU's most Greatest professor ever. Extremely clear, helpful and easy to understand. He really wants his students to do well. He drops the lowest 2 quiz grades and curves exam grades. Everything you need will be posted on black board,no need to buy book. Great class. VERY easy if you go to class.
This is a demanding course, and he does a good job teaching and making class interesting. Unfortunately, sometimes he goes through the material too fast and his tests are very difficult. He curves the grades afterwards, but they are tough. Work hard and study hard and you can do well in this class.
He is belittling to students who ask questions, and will make you feel stupid if you answer them incorrectly. Tests are extremely challenging and the class itself is quite demanding. Be sure you have plenty of time to devote to this class when you take it.
Even though he's entertaining sometimes, he can be very rude in class, interrupts students while they are speaking to say "Go on...more..." and shoots people down if they are incorrect. On top of that, he's a very difficult grader, even though he curves he still makes the tests discouragingly challenging. I would stick with Veazey.
Hardest class i have ever taken. Do not bother buying book. Must go to class, try to participate, everyone is intimidated, you will stand out if you do. Go to office hours, he favors people who try hard, participate. Tests are curved to save everyone. Study classroom aids, book examples are available online avoid at all cost if not accounting major
Thought he did a good job and made it relatively easy to understand the concepts. Moves a little fast but ultimately looks for you to apply the material. I found this class worked well at the grad level due to its real world application. I'd recommend him if you aren't just looking for an easy A, though it is not difficult to achieve in his class
One of the best! Do not miss him. He is so enthusiastic and such a joy to listen to. Not to say the material is easy. In my opinion, cost accounting is completely judgmental...there are no "laws". He will acknowlege that, but you still need to learn his way. Best thing about this class...no group work!!!!!
Tough grader and difficult class, but Sopariwala is an outstanding professor. Maybe the best I've had in the MBA program so far -- passionate, intelligent, articulate, and fair. Highly recommended.
Parvez Sopariwala is the best Accounting professor at GVSU! He knows the material and has a passion for it. He wants everyone to succeed and be great. The class is difficult, he makes it hard enough to where you definitely have to try, but uses a curve to make it possible for a good grade. Every Accounting major should take Parvez, hes awesome!
Cannot understand his teaching methods. Most math teachers will write on the board, his is all powerpoints. You dont really get direction on how to do the work. Tests are extremely hard. My advice. Take another teacher.
He is a very difficult grader but does use a curve. Exams are very difficult. No homework and no manditory class. Whole class grade is quizzes and exams with one final project. Must work for grade. Interesting professor but challenging!
Probably one of the nicest teachers I've ever had!! And one of the most helpful! He always makes sure you know the information he's teaching before going on. The quizez aren't to hard, just study. And the exams harder, but he posts old exams and other studying tools! SO NICE! :]
He is very willing to help when you need it but all i can ever understand out of him is "LOUDA" or "questions please" well yes i have questions but when you answer them i still dont get it. i would suggest to take a different teacher.
Got an A in the class although I had to put in a lot more time than I would have liked, studying a subject I have no interest in. Exams are very difficult(~80=A after the curve)I would highly suggest this course to ACC majors as he will make sure you know and understand the material well. Those non acct majors I wouldn't suggest taking the class.
Being an accounting major, this came to me easy. However, he doesn't really explain the subject and I learned from reading through the book. His quizzes are easy and will curve everyone final grades. Difficult to understand but he does care about you so will do everything so you have a good grade. Not the best prof but one of the nicest.
Not being an accounting major and not having done well in my ACC 212 class, this class was very hard. We switched profs halfway through the semester as well and that did not make it any easier. He is very passionate about the subject and makes himself available to help, however, he is no help when you go to him.
He makes the class much harder than it already is. He's a great man, but his teaching style is for extremely smart students and for people who have a lot of time to study. He has a strong accent which is extremely hard to understand his points. Study a lot and read the book if you want to pass.
Outstanding professor. A credit to the school and his discipline. That said, his classes are rigorous and challenging. If you want easy, go elsewhere. If you want to master the subject, he is without equal.
Best professor I've ever had, every minute of his lectures seems to be carefully planned and is well thought out. He's a very tough grader, however the curve makes low scores become quite high.
Sopariwala is great. Tests are difficult, but he is a completely fair grader, and grades on a curve. He is helpful and is always asking if topics are clear to the class. Lectures aren't mandatory but you will miss out if you don't attend - and he is moderately entertaining. Two exams and a paper. He will challenge you but it is worth it.
Classwork and homework is nothing like exams. Boring. Would not take
One of, if not my favorite prof of my college career. He is very good at conveying material, funny, blunt and fair, and understands how college students work.
Sopariwala's ACC611 course is very challenging, the most difficult in the MBA program in my opinion. Final grade consists of 2 exams and 1 case analysis. Exams are extremely tough but he gives partial credit and adds a generous curve to bump up the grades. Attendance/HW not mandatory but you will feel behind if you miss. Office hrs not too helpful.
This is the hardest class I have taken at Grand Valley. You have to work extremely hard not to fail. He is a very nice man and if you go to his office hours he is very willing to help, but his tests and quizzes are so difficult it seems impossible to get an A in the class. Even my accounting tutor was having difficulty helping with his problems.
Parevez is a very bad professor. His classes consist of quizzes, and meaningless lectures. The days you don't take quizzes, he will run through problems out of the book and run through the problem as if you knew the material as well as he does. He does very minimal teaching. Grading at the end of the semester is on a curve, but by his discretion.
He expects a lot out of his students and there is a good chance that if you put forth the effort you'll be fine. Grade is based off 3 exams, a project, and 8 quizzes (drops 2). Very challenging exams but that doesn't necessarily mean you'll get bad grades on them. 80-85% on an exam is curved to an A typically.
You really need to have a 110% understanding of the concepts. If you wanted to truly master cost accounting hes your guy. If you didnt do well in ACC213 you will not do well in his class. He expects you to already know how to do all the problems he does in class before he lectures. Exams and the project are very tough unless you dedicate yourself
He's a great professor if you are interested in thoroughly understanding the material. If you are simply looking for an easy grade, do not take this class. He's generally a forgiving grader and will curve exams and final grades. Study one day before quizzes, two before exams and you should be fine.
A bit intimidating but really knows his stuff. You only use the textbook once all semester and he has that particular problem available online. Tough grader but very fair and gives a decent curve. Really wants students to give as much detail as possible on exams and projects. When you think you've done enough for him, do a little more.
Can be a little overwhelming sometimes, because he teaches on a very "big picture" analysis method. He knows his stuff and can be a little intimidating. I had a hard time keeping up in class. You have quizzes throughout the semester that help your grade and keep you on track. Don't bother getting the textbook.
For ACC 213 he assigns homework on the stuff he hasn't taught you yet so in order to do well on the homework (due twice a week) you have to read through the whole chapter and try to understand it yourself. Then after you spend way too long teaching yourself and get an average grade on the hw because of it, he will teach it to you the next day.
He certainly knows the material, but he tends to over explain concepts which I struggled with. I wouldnt recommend. Tests are nothing like homework and each multiple choice test question is worth 3 points.
One of the worst profs I have had at Grand Valley. The actual Math done in class was very simple, however he had already worked out all of the problems and hands out his answer keys to problems before you attempt the problem in class. If you are someone who learns by actually working problems out, I highly suggest you do not sign up for this class
This man deserves a trophy for best professor (if he hasnt already received one). Yes, his class is intense and he grades hard. But, I wouldnt want to take this class with anyone else. Hes very caring and if youre an accounting major... Sopariwala is a must! Treat every quiz like an exam and you should be fine. Don't skip class either...
Tough class. Material is important to know and he knows it really well, but sometimes it is difficult to understand his way of teaching. He is willing to help outside of class but will not make it easy, he is going to make you work for it. If you aren't required to take this class then I wouldn't suggest taking it. Textbook truly isn't necessary!!
Professor Sopariwala is a great guy and is super knowledgeable, he has a different way of teaching which may not work for everyone but for me it did wonders. From what felt like it was going to my hardest class turned out to be my best because of how much he cares you learn and try in his class. He is super organized as well.
Sopariwala is a tough, straightforward professor. He tells you what's expected of you and expects just that. Quizzes weekly. Try in class and ask questions and you will understand what's going on. Accounting isn't easy but he does a great job teaching it.
The average grade on the first exam was a 52%...I don't know if it's this class or the department or what but students are feeling like they have no way to succeed. GVSU has a serious problem in its accounting department. If you want to take the class ACC 212 good luck, truly.
If you need to take ACC 213, by all means please take another professor. You will be much better off with another professor regardless of the rating. Don't take this professor, and you will be much happier with your semester.
