Nice guy but teaches wierd, passionate about geology
Very good professor, passionate about teaching and you will learn even if uninterested in the subject.
Great proffessor who knows his stuff and easily explain it. tests are somewhat hard, but as long as you study and take good notes, you should do well.
If you come to class and pay attention you should be fine. The material isn't easy, but he explains it well. I loved this class.
Knows his Geology.
disliked this class....a lot
his tests are veryyy hard!
hes hard to understand...i would try to get some other professor for this course
He expect his student to know all the material as if they all are geology majors, and not taking it as a gen ed. Also dont get Michelle as a lab teacher, on the final she doesnt let u use a cheat sheet and the rest of the lab teachers do.
Great professor! Always willing to help students understand. Starts and ends each class w/a slide show. Very easy, yet interesting class. You will def. enjoy him! :)
A CHALLENGING PROFESSOR BUT ALWAYS WILLING TO HELP. THERE FOR HIS OFFICE HOURS, KNOWS WHAT HE'S TALKING ABOUT. CAN BRING PERSONAL EXPERIENCES TO HIS CLASS TO MAKE IT MORE ENTERTAINING. CAN RECOMMEND TO OTHERS. HAS LOTS OF PICTURES IF YOU ARE A VISUAL LEAR
Hardest professor ever... you can study your butt off for tests and still fail...He thinks everyone in his class is a geology major.
His Tests are the hardest Tests i have ever seen in my life. It doesnt matter how hard you study because you will most likely still fail.
He is a great, interesting guy who knows his stuff, but the tests are very difficult. There are four tests, nothing else. It is almost impossible to get a C.
Hardest class Ive ever taken at Radford. The guy things we are all geology majors. avoid at all costs or you'll end up having to withdraw!
WOW little shocked that i could do so bad in that class im a dean's List Student and suprisingly thought it was very difficult. but im sure he is the easiest of all geology teachers. Science is not my strong point but COME ON. He needs to realize that were not all Geology majors.
This class was a joke, It consisted more of a personal slideshow of his photographs, and obscure geology facts than what I expected a 101 science class to be. Thank god for my lab teacher- Lori!
Hardest class at radford...straight A student and i had to withdraw from class the avoid a D. no point in studying forever youll just fail
very long boring lectures... i am a earth-science major and i fell asleep in this class. lots of reading and re-reading to be done if you want to even pass this class, lots of boring notes. if youre going to take this class, be ready for lots of very hard work.
I hated this class, it comes close to being one of the hardest I have taken here, He flies through lectures and doesnt seem to care about if you get the notes or not, he expects a lot of "supplementing " from the book, just made my hatred of science that much larger
his tests are rediculously hard, I had a good GPA coming into this class and now b/c of it i'm going to lower it. Lectures are boring, and he races through material. Wish i hadn't taken this class
Sethi is an amusing character. He laughs at himself and his own jokes, which isn't a bad thing! A lot of people rate him poorly because they don't pay attention, so they don't do well in his class. Go to class and pay attention and you'll do fine!!!

The People think Dr. Sethi is awesome- he made me want to be a geologist. He's really nice & knowledgeable but makes jokes so class is fun. I can't understand how anyone could rate him negatively. I would recommend him to anyone. The key is to read the chapters!

He was the best... I loved these classes....

Doctor Parvinder Sethi was the greatest teacher I have ever had at Radford University. He is super easy and understandable. ps. He wears spandex occasionally outside class... If you like technology he is the best teacher to take... He loves Tablet PC and he loves Digital Cameras.
BY FAR HE IS AN AWESOME TEACHER! HE REALLY KNOWS HIS STUFF AND HIS NOTES ARE VERY OUTLINES AND DETAILED! TAKE NOTES AND COME TO CLASS AND YOU'LL BE FINE! TESTS ARE EASY IF YOU WRITE HIS NOTES WORD FOR WORDS AND SKIM THE CHAPTERS! NO HW AND HE REALLY MADE THIS CLASS FUN! I LEARNED ALOT AND EVEN THOUGHT ABOUT MINORING IN GEOLOGY BC OF HIM!
very borning, monotone voice.. furiously take notes every class, even when watching videos. hard tests-have to know book and notes extremely well to even get a B on the exams.. never responded to my emails.. not very helpful.. TAKE A DIFFERENT TEACHER!!! only thing that is good is that he knws his stuff.. but wont get you anywhere if wont help you!
he really knows what he is talking about but at the same time it is a hard class, the only reason i passed is because of the lab...the tests are hard and not everything he says will be on there actually is...his class is so boring and he talks in monotone..unless you LOVE geology i wouldnt take this class.
crappy professor. doesn't teach you a damn thing. the class is boring, there are alot of notes, and you have to basically look everything up in your book because he doesn't teach you anything. i wouldn't have him as a professor if you paid me.
This guy knows his geology. If someone says that u wont learn anything then they dont go to any of his classes. Reading the book can help but overall the notes are clear wich makes them tend to be longer. It was a little difficult but thats college. I learned alot but dont plan on waiting to the last few days to do the final paper, its long.
I am a geology major and this class sucked. He is a terrible teacher. If I had no geology before I think I would have failed. You have to look everything up. He doesnt teach a damn thing. I have him again and I am NOT looking forward to it. I would try to get any other teacher...the rest are awesome
Good professor, class is lecture intensive and attendence is necessary, believe me. You are also going to need to be familiar with the text. Moderately hard class.

This class sucked! Dr. Sethi makes things way more difficult then it needs to be. his tests are unfair and i went to every single class. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS...AVOID IT! it simply isnt worth it
Refreshing. Great prof. He loves his subject area, and is extremely knowledgable. Does not spoon feed you before the tests by revealing exactly what's on them. You must study! Many students found that annoying, and wanted him to make everything easy--trust me, if you challenge yourself in this class, it'll pay off.
He's a good teacher, just he expects the students to actually do work. Some people can't understand him, but I dont know why. He speaks fine.
This class is easy... the only hard part was that we had to write 2 reviews on random articles for each class period. (that was the final term project) overall this class was pretty easy... if i had tried harder on the tests I prob. would have gotten an A
He is a good teacher, very passionate about what hes talking about and he expects you to participate in class, and can put you on the spot sometimes. His tests are average as long as you study you should be fine!
I would avoid a class with him if at all possible. The class was BORING and the summary of like 50 geology articles was the biggest waste of time in my college career! He's monotone and its a struggle to stay awake. The tests are hard too.
Very hard class, he does not use the book at all, and he test you on random facts he throws out there in the middle of a class. I would avoid this class, if possible.
Good teacher. If you go to class and study somewhat you will get a high grade. He gives you answers on the test almost everyday if your there. He knows what hes talking about! Sarcastic sometimes although monotone. Great teacher.
The worst teacher Ive ever had. He thinks he is funny but is not at all. Test information comes out of NOWHERE! Do not take his class unless you are geology major. Awful teaching style and goes into random tangents!
Hated the class...smart man but a huge pessimist..cocky..and not very nice overall....tests are nearly impossible to study for and he expects this class to be your life...refuses to curve no matter how bad the class does..i would never take him again nor would i recommend him
pretty much the worst class of my life. he has an accent, not terrible..but you still might have trouble understanding some of the things he is saying. his test are impossible....im pretty sure the average grades of tests in my class were D's. he throws in random stuff that noone knows the answers to. he doesnt use the book.
The worst teacher I have ever had EVER. Doesn't even attempt to explain things better, not clear, blames students for doing poorly. He reflects his views upon students. Terrible person to wake up to at 8am. Tests were hard and random information is thrown in to trick students. DC trip is offered for extra credit, won't do much good though.
He's a smart man that can not teach. Go to class! Some of the most random things that he has done in his life will be on the test. Not the person you want for 8AM, he will put you back to sleep and then pick on you for sleeping in his class. AVOID!
avoid. avoid. avoid. the man is smart but doesn't teach. if you're already stuck in this class, you should probably just start memorizing things now.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF!! Class could have been a little more fun, but he is really hard. He does not know how to teach, expects that you know everything, a lot of small details in his exams even stories from his personal life. If you need this class- AVOID THIS DUDE!!!
VERY HARD !!!! Must read every word in every chapter. Prior interest would make this class less painful. DO NOT TAKE HIM if you don't want to take this class to begin with and no matter what go to every class. Test questions are extremely random and he covers so much material there's no telling what will be on the test. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND :(
I personally didn't enjoy this class but take it if you really like geology and want to work hard.
I am not really sure what everyone is talking about. Sethi was always a good professor in my class. As long as you interact with him and ask questions and answer he can be funny and light hearted. GO TO CLASS. as long as you take notes from his power point you will be fine. Its the lab teachers that are boring.
A really nice guy, but not the best teacher. He expects you to know everything about the topics whenmost people taking this class are doing it for gen ed. You MUST attend every class and study right out of the book to get a decent grade. I wouldn't reccomend him if you aren't a dedicated and hard worker.
You can tell he really likes Geology and expects everyone else to. Although a nice guy who wants to help his topics are hard to understand sometimes. I wouldn't reccomend him if you fall asleep easily
He means well and the work is pretty straight forward and easy, but after a half hour it's hard to pay attention. He only goes through slide show notes, and you need to pay attention because he'll be talking and then say "make note of that" and then keep going. If you fall asleep easily when bored, I'd suggest another teacher/class.
Very fun class. The Geology department is a very tight knit community so you can always find Dr. Sethi but very hard class. Lots of reading and memorization. Work hard, ask for study guides, and you'll pass. This isn't the class or teacher for a slacker.
He is NOT a hard prof for the 100 class, none of them are. They all want non-majors to be able to tell how much they love geology to convert them into our field. Those who find him unhelpful obviously did not even attempt speaking with him. Also, he asks questions about his life on the test is for easy points to reward those who show up for class.
Oceanography this semester was awful. He had something going on in his personal life, mixed with his concentration on the Hawaii trip, which lead to an unprepared, scattered class. Most of the labs were both created and graded by the TA. Tests were made an hour before we took them. Sem. grades are due 5/13 and we still don't know our Exam1 grades.
Sethi was really cool, I took him for a summer course in Geology. He's super funny, and likes to pick on his students (in a funny way). Very personable guy, kind of unorganized though, which I guess you can't blame the guy, he's a talented Geologist teaching whiny college students. I'd definitely take his class again mainly because of his humor!
Dr. Sethi is an ok teacher. He doesn't use his own powerpoints . He says that things are going to be on the test and to study them and they are never on the test and that is VERY annoying. His syllabus says that he will always be in class 10 minutes early and that only happened once. He comes late a lot and leaves to get coffe and he goes over time
Do not take Sethi's class unless you are a geology major. I took his introduction course and it sucked. A lot of work for something I really don't care about at all. Complete waste of time. He's a really nice guy, but if you're not interested in geology, I would not take his course at all.
Sethi is probably my favorite teacher, many of the reviews here are overly critical. I'm not a geology major or even interested in geology, but his lectures are very funny and he sometimes picks on students. Just taking notes every class and paying attention was an easy A. He gets pissed off if you use cell phones in classare disrespectful to him.
good teacher and he means well, but his tests are really tough. he definitely challenges you. GO TO CLASS AND USE YOUR BOOK. you will fail miserably if you slack in that class. hes really cool guy though! really passionate and loves his job. take him seriously.
He is one of the most respected professors I have ever had here at Radford. He is super passionate about geology and even as a non-major in the subject I was truly inspired by the things he shared with us. Don't disrespect him or the class in any way and show up on time. He also likes to mess with his students every now and then to be humorous.
He's a really nice guy if you take his class seriously. It's a lot to work for, and a lot to study, but really involving yourself helps. Sethi is genuinely one of the most funny teachers I've had, you will laugh. He treats the class like a family. Take notes on all the things he adds and take his suggestions seriously. Clear grading expectations.
As MANY people stated previously. He cares alot about geology. And believes that since he does EVERYONE else should. He does random attendence, but mostly you're ONLY grades are the exams. Which are basically over slidesshows, the book AND certain facts he tells you to remember. If you have the choice try to find another geology professor.
He is the best geology professor out there. If you take one of his classes, but some effort in and you'll be okay. If you apply yourself in his class, you'll be okay. He loves answering questions so don't be afraid to ask him.
Good teacher, takes class seriously.
Isn't very specific with what will be on the test. The test is mulitple choice, but it's still difficult do the the valueless of what material will be on it. It can be anything from what is mentioned in class to what is in the textbook.
Many people think that he is the greatest professor of all time, and he really acts like it too. The lectures are super boring, and he honestly has the driest personality. Take him if you want to spend time on this class out of the rest. Just withdraw. Lastly, You have to buy a $75 "Virtual Field Trip" which contributes to only 8% of your grade.
Even though this is only a 100 level course, Dr. Sethi expects you to make it your whole life. Lectures are super boring and he'll call you out for talking or being on your phone. Nice man but pick another teacher
Dr. Sethi knows his topic and he is very well aware of that. He thinks since he loves geology everyone else must love it too. He knows what he is talking about, but he does not know how to teach it. He also makes you spend an extra $40 on his virtual field trips which were not helpful to me at all.
Dr. Sethi is an outstanding professor. He loves what he does, and it shows in his teaching. I am not a science major at all, but he kept me interested in the topics. He expects you to be respectful and professional in his classroom, as you should in every class since you are now IN COLLEGE. Be on time and pay attention, it's not that complicated.
He is by far my favourite professor here at Radford University. If you need help in the class all you have to do is ask him in person, and then shoot him an email. He isn't the best at responding to emails, especially last minute. If you do email him, ask him during the next lecture if he has seen your email, or tell him that you sent him one.
His lecture is extremely boring and he goes too fast for you to copy the notes, although he does put them online. He is very monotone and it makes the class feel 2 hours long, and don't get me started on the lab that actually is 2 hours long.
Dr. Sethi really cares about geology and his students. If you show up to class, pay attention, and ask plenty of questions, you'll be just fine. He is very willing to help his students understand the material. Seriously, just go to class and be attentive and the lecture part of the class is informative and easy.
The Professor speaks in a very monotone voice at all times which makes it difficult to stay focused. If you plan on turning anything in late 0% no exceptions. This class revolves around the grades from the four tests taken throughout the semester with little extra credit options. I would only advise taking this class if he is the last choice.
This professor is quite possibly the worst teacher I have yet to have. The speed at which he talks makes you wonder if you are currently living in slow motion. The pace at which he talks makes lectures drag on forever. I would never recommend this teacher to anyone but you're stuck because there isn't another option. (how did he a teaching award?)
Dr. Sethi is a great person however if you are not as passionate about geology as him you will not thrive in this class. He is also very monotone and his lectures are boring and hard to follow. He usually has few grades in the grade book so dont mess up any assignments or youre screwed. Great sense of humor, when he wants to have fun you will
I passed the course. I survived the thesis review. Sethi flunked me because he "needed more CUs" (attending student credit units) and he thought failing a Straight A student was a good idea. Deptartment fixed it. He is moreinto himself than he will ever care about you.
This professor is horrible and disrespectful. He acts like he is above you and expects everyone to know every single thing about geology that he does. Lectures are confusing and very long. Exams are hard. There are no exam reviews. He is not helpful or approachable. Absolutely hated the class and will never take him ever again.
Don't miss this class and pay attention to everything he says. Prof Sethi is somewhat intimidating, but as long as you don't ask him questions that he has already answered/are answered in the syllabus he is willing to help. Extremely knowledgeable about Geology and has interesting travel stories. Great extra credit opportunities.
I didnt enjoy my time with dr. Sethi and he was a constant source of stress for me. I was always worried about his class and his lectures are long boring and irrelevant.
Dr. Sethi is an amazing teacher. He has a lot of education in his field and funny stories to go with. As long as you dont miss class and make sure to take notes during lectures you will do fine.
Professor Sethi is a very good professor. Funny and makes geology interesting but this class is very hard. Definitely don't miss a lecture and pay attention to everything he says. Don't slack off at all during the semester or you will fall behind.
hes really a cool dude once u get to know him
Probably one of the hardest classes I've taken so far. This class is lecture HEAVYYYY, and we have four tests (that's all of our grading, just the four tests) His tests are very hard and he words the questions weirdly as well. I don't recommend taking Dr. Sethi's course if you want an easy time.
Love hate relationship with this class, attendance is mandatory, if you miss 3 or more classes its an automatic fail. Very test heavy and lecture heavy, there's no homework but it is a challenge to follow if you dont already know about some of the things he is talking about. Very funny stories and class participation makes it fun.
Dont get me started. Will not enter in grades until end of semester.
