very very very good! i recommend!
do not take this teacher. she runs all over the place with the information. very unclear with the material
This teacher is tough but really good. She is funny and tries to keep the class fun as much as she can. It's biology after all. I would definately recommend her. Class is definately tough.
There is a quiz every week on the labs, so be sure you take every quiz. Her exams contain mostly lecture notes, but it's good to review the book. She also lets you have a 5x7 note card to help you with the final. This is not a class that you can sleep in!
made bio FUN! bio in general is boring...but this teacher makes it interesting. first science teacher to do that for me. she explains it real well, n her jokes may get a bit corny, but she makes ya laugh. she's the best!
TAKE ANOTHER TEACHER. SHE LOVES TO DRAW ON THE BOARD AND SAY "HUH" IN THE CLASS.
she teaches really well but she gives quizes every week and if you get 89.5% she will give you a B no mather how much you beg. pro: you never have to open the book if you take notes in class
Tough, but fair and fun. A lot of quizzes, but it keeps you up on the material. Getting an A was hard work - just like it should be. But she was always helpful during lab and after class and one of the most organized teachers I've had. Take notes!!!
great teacher. I took this class to prepare me for bio 6/7, which wasn't needed, but I really enjoyed her class anyways. And I found it relatively easy.
She is nice but not easy. She explains well but she will try to trick you in every way possible on the test. TAKE NOTES or you will not pass the class. She is a little weird sometimes. Nice but tricky, she wants to make sure her class is known as hard, take only if you need a challenge or Bio. major
LOL at the person below me. Farris is easy, you just have to know how to study. For the quizzes, just make sure ur able to answer all of the questions at the beginning in the lab book for that lab. As for the tests, as long as you have kept up on the quizzes and have taken good notes, you're set.
Great teacher, very clear, and if your not stupid, shes easy. funny, and makes things interesting, very nice and great environment. you learn a LOT
By far one of the best teachers I have ever had. We went on field trips to the beach and Malibu Lagoon to bird watch. The Labs are not too difficult if you pay attention and take notes. She is very organized and very prepared, even getting to school hours early to find live lab specimens.
Smart, funny, finds wonderfully creative ways to explain the complicated information. She is one of those "one in a million" instructors you rarely come across. Two thumbs up!! Also wonderful with Deaf culture and Deaf students!
Great Teacher! She is a bit reserved at first, but eventually she catches you off guard with quick jokes that it takes some understanding of the material to get. A lot of fun.
Well, her lectures are clear, but her tests are very very hard!!!That class was really really painful for me. I will recommend her if your major is in Science field, otherwise, take another prefessor because her tests aren't easy.
One of the worst instructer i ever had.
A really good teacher she makes the concepts easy to understand. If your not a goodtest taker dont take this class 75% of your grade is the test. Its hard to get an A in but easy to get a C or a B. there is no homework to be done but to get good grades you will haVE TO study your butt off.
I HATE THIS TEACHER! DO NOT TAKE HER, I REPEAT!! DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DO NOT TAKE HER!!
Well OF COURSE this is a hard class, it's SCIENCE! But Farris is a great teacher - tough, but fair. There's a lot of lab work, and the tests are pretty intense, but if you work hard you should get a B at least. Take lots of notes.
This teacher is great. i took her a year ago and still remember names of plants i never cared about. she is very helpful. the best thing to do is become friends with someone in the class to study with and make it fun.
great at explaining the material. she's the teacher that really got me into science...i've switched majors since.
Shes great! She made it easier and fun for me! Her lectures are clear and her tesrs arent hard, few tricky questions but shes not as hard as MYERS! :o)

she is ok.not the best
Professor Farris seriously cares about the success of her students, although at times she can be a bit unclear. Your grade is based on exams, so take lots of notes(and I mean lots) and study like crazy. Extremely difficult to get an A, because of trick questions on the exams. Get a B with much studying.
She is a very nice teacher, really cares about her students and their success. doesnt give much homework, and really teaches clearly.
not good in explaining that meterial
just take good notes and study them.
Excellent teacher! Just take good notes because you see it all on the tests! Her tests are very fair.
she is very serious i don't think she a sweet person. In order to pass her class you have to make sure that you talk to her and make the best notes.Samtimes she put same tricky question be prepare
Professor Farris is a great teacher! She is so helpful during office hours or before/after class. Her tests are very fair and all the questions come from her lectures. Very good teacher!
She's funny.
she is very helpful and a nice person to deal with in the morning, just don't show up late. field trips are fun and interesting. the material is fairly easy. she gives notes on everything. don't forget to visit her website, it gives reviews for the quizes
this is one of the most time consuming classes i have ever taken, but ms. farris is a good teacher w/ a great sense of humor. you must show up to class everyday and take really good notes. she doesn't use a book, tests are from the good notes that you took. tests and quizzes can be tricky, so you MUST know your material if you want an A.
Very nice teacher that is clear and knows her material. You will learn a lot and will have to work hard to earn your grade. Highly recommended.
I think this teacher is good at reiterating the material and does a lot as far as providing material for the students. Unfortunately I had an incident with her that left me with very little respect for her as a judge of character and as a person.
amazing teacher, clear/interesting/funny lectures. [ease=5] pay attention to lectures & take good notes- you'll be fine. exams aren't tricky @ all as long as you know the material. she's an amazing teacher, just take her :)
She is a really good teacher. She knows what she is talking about, and she makes the lectures interesting and fun. She is a little odd at times, but it makes the class entertaining. You always have to take notes, almost all of her exam questions are from the notes and labs.
Learned ALOT!!! she really helps you understand bio for bio majors and for people that actually want and need to understand bio TAKE HER if you're just wanna get an A and fulfilled youre life science section DO NOT because you WILL NOT get an A unless you live biology... good luck!
this teacher can be pretty cool at times but it almost seems as if she like to rub it in your face on how smart she is in a jokingly way. She loves giving you suprise extra work so look out!
This was an amazing class where I learned more about Bio in 15 weeks than 3 years of highschool. Mrs. Farris is hilarious, she called carbon a **** because it likes to bond a lot ;) Must take excellent notes, basically memorize the concepts of the lectures.
What a mistake! I can say that I truly enjoyed her classes and all the interesting facts and tid-bits that she presented. However, her test are EXTREMELY HARD!!! There was only 1 A out of our entire class. She also speeds through a lot of material. Try to take good notes even though she moves through it at 900 miles per min. DONT TAKE HER
let me keep this simple. If you enjoy 1. Hard, confusing tests 2. The fastest teacher in history 3. NO HELP AT ALL (I asked her for help and she instructed me to pay more attention) 4. Sometimes funny but mostly serious 5. a weird grading scale 6. No time for a social life.... Then take her! And good luck with that!
Shes not my favorite but she is good at teaching. I dont like her but i respect her as a professor. I think her test are very fair when it comes to what she teaches. She gives intersting facts and i always paid attention. I always felt like she didnt like me for some reason she could be rude when you ask her questions but shes alright. i recommend.
she was so nice, and interesting. Her lectures were never boring. You do need to study for tests and attendance is a must. If you happen to be in honors, get an honors contract, easy 4 credits. I would HIGHLY recommend her!
I never expected this class to be tough but, this is one HARD class! Prof Farris presents interesting facts and tid-bits but she is not really helpful when it comes to questions. Her tests are extremely hard. Attendance is mandatory. I barely passed this class. My suggestion is that you take another prof.
Professor Farris was fun and had interesting lectures with hands on material. if you want a good class to learn biology, take Farris. great sense of humor and provides e.c.
Great professor... you dont need a book... however you must attend class and take good notes... doesnt trick you on tests.. fun labs and bird watching (wow... never thought id say that).. i hate bio and got a comfy A. However..naturally you must work hard... Take her she is cool
Her class is a very fun an interesting experience. Her classes are entertaining yet very knowledgable. The field trips require work, but are a lot of fun. You'll get an A if you attend class and take notes. By the way, she loves Sponge Bob :)
SHES THE BEST! She is so funny and entertaining. Now I go around naming plants and bugs. You actually learn a lot in her class but it doesn't seem like it at the time because it's fun. VERY hands on. If you study you'll get an A without much problem. Gives good study guides and notes. TAKE HER for a fun exciting class.
She is the BEST!! take her !! Spot looking you can't get better than her!! :D
Attendance and Lab is mandatory. She is not helpful when it comes down to asking questions, gets a little irritated, Goes too fast and does not like to repeat herself. Test are very tricky. The class average was a D and there were around 40 students in the class, I do not recommend taking her! Take someone else!
She's great! She's crystal clear about every topic. Takes you step by step through everything! Attendance is required for EVERY class and lab. If you miss one day and you'll be lost! She's funny and sooo smart. You will actually LEARN something every day in her class. Not an "easy A". But definitely not a super difficult A to achieve.
most bodacious
Attendance MANDATORY, must take time and effort to study, if you do youll pass easy, alot of note taking, no book required just lab book, all questions on test come from notes, gives alot of hints on what to expect on test, quiz after every lab. If your not going to put time/effort into the class dont take it. If you are, easy A for sure!
Prof. Farris is by far the best teacher I've had. She builds relationships with her students, sarcastic sometimes (never mean)and funny! Friday "labs" were bird watching at different parks. I made tons of close friends and she took lots of fun pics. If you are willing to work (pretty heavily) this is the most rewarding class. I got an A!
Farris is awesome! She took us out to catch bugs/butterflies and bird watch. I now know 80 different plants/birds and other southern California critters! No dissection <3 You MUST make friends and form study groups. She gives out REALLY good study guides. They're overwhelming but go through each thing and you're good! Highly Recommend!!
not a good professor, she talks to fast and is really mean to her students.Bought the book and barely used it. Expects 2 hours a week for labs. Her test are really difficult. dont expect a easy A or B.
Very difficult because her teaching is not too good. Class notes is a must. Labs are mandatory. Easily gets irritated by people-avoid this professor.
If you expect to pass this class you MUST attend every lab and class. Don't ever think about missing 1 class. She's not a fan of athletes and she will hold that against you. Don't think about being late she gets irritated about people who come in late. She doesn't use a text but she does have you buy lab guides and a bird book.
Great professor. Fun class. Easy A if you do the work and pay attention to her lectures.
Amazing teacher, very interesting class. If you pay attention to her lectures and study the materials, you shouldn't have any trouble getting an A.
Stay very far away from this class. If you are hoping to one day make it to a UC, you will be smart enough to take it with a teacher who is actually trying to help you get there. Lecture exams are tricky, no extra credit, and very strict on attendance and tardiness. Set up for failure from day one.
One of the most devoted professors I have had. This class is not an easy A but if you work hard you will get a lot out of this class and an A like I did. Farris wants her students to work hard and will not give a grade that someone does not deserve. Lectures are crystal clear and she reinforces material along the way with reviews. The class is fun.
Great enthusiasm and methods!
Oh my goodness, Pro Farris is an amazing teacher, she's super good at explaining things, you have to go to every class meeting, and spend at least 2 hours for lab. It sounds hard, but actually if you spend time studying the notes and doing the review sheets, you'll get an A for sure. Trust Me, i learned a lot from this class
Very very hard teacher STAY AWAY from her class Attendance is mandatory and if u miss 1 class u lost the whole chapter she gets so irritated and annoyed when u ask questions Very hard and Tricky Exams even her Quizzes I'feel sorry for myself because I took her class I got depressed every time I went to class
Take her bio 10 class! it is a really fun class and i feel like i learned a lot!. Not an easy A but as long as you do all the labs and study like hell for her lab practicals and midterms you will be fine. She is very clear and very good at explaining. We got to go to parks for the labs and look at birds too! Totally recommend this class!
Horrible teacher. her lectures are all over the place. She tries to be funny when shes not. Her lessons are all off of a powerpoint. You learn more from the labs then you learn from her. Overall she is just horrible. Don't take her.
Very fun class! She has us go on lots of field trips, she takes time to review material almost every class meeting, and provides study materials that most teachers don't. Put in the effort and you'll enjoy the class.
Farris is an amazing professor. She is very clear as far as what to expect, She follows the syllabus to a T. Her grading is very efficient. Test and quiz scores are posted the same day as they are taken. She is very helpful if you ask questions, the best time I to ask questions is in lab because she has more time to explain things one on one.
Do NOT slack off. She is very easy to pass if you do the work and the lab. Take your time with it and ask questions if you need help. Find a study partnergroup to make things easier for you. No cellphones during lectures!
Lots of studying in order to pass! Study lab, notes, & textbook. Most people didn't use book, but I was so grateful to have it. She's super nice & funny. It's an easy A if you study the vocabulary list she post's on moodle. Quiz every week. Couple take home quizzes, 3 exams & the final. Labs can be fun. Take your time during lab.
She was very helpful! It's all about studying and going over the lab and class notes. She was very approachable and cool! Much of the work is done in the lab and her lectures are all powerpoints.
don't b late on quiz days! starts the quiz right on time and it's timed usually 5 mins! I had an A throughout most of the smstr but dropped to a B+ because it got a little harder. Lab Quizzes are easy as long as you do the labs with ur full attention. Don't miss class- her lectures are interesting and she gives rlly helpful worksheets to study from
Great teacher, very helpful. Had a great time and learned a lot! She took us on field trips to only help us learn more. Tests are kind of hard but for her practicals she prepares you pretty well. Hands on class. Hope you don't mind bugs and birds. I would recommend to take her you'll have fun.
I really enjoy taking this teacher. If you would like to take her make sure you need to attend field trips, finish homework, lab assignments and if you study you can pass the her class. Mrs Farris cares about her students, she's strict, very easy to talk if you have any questions. The practical exams really helps students passing the class. :)
First half of the semester was easy peasy then it got a little harder towards the end. She's straight forward with daily discussion. Quizzes every week(Tricky questions). NEVER GIVES EXTRA CREDIT. Must complete at least 2 hours of lab in a week or else you get a 0 quiz score point. She really makes you work hard for your grade. Good luck.
Prof. Farris is definitely not an easy A. Be prepared to study and memorize tons of information for a good grade, and do every single assignment. Overall she was a great professor and gives you the resources you need to succeed. Lectures are interesting and the lab field trips are fun.
Very sweet professor! You definitely have to work for your grade. She gives weekly quizzes but they are helpful for exams so pay attention to those! Exams are based on lecture notes so don't miss class. Overall great professor. Would take again!
She is a very intelligent professor and really knows her subject well. The labs are really helpful to give you a better understanding of her lectures. Make sure you take lots of notes and have a study partner!! She is very helpful when you don't understand something and gives lots of handouts to make it easier. She is funny! Highly recommend.
This is an easy class if you do the work, participate, & attend class. I had never taken a science class before, & this class was a great introduction that challenged me in some areas, but was also extremely enjoyable & engaging. If you are interested in the natural world and naturalist things, take this class. You learn a lot in a fun way.
I thoroughly enjoyed this course. Sit in the first 3 rows and take lots of notes. Also, take textbook notes. Quizzes and exams are exactly what you had learned during lessons and lab. Ask questions during lab because Prof. Farris will make sure you understand whatever you were stuck on. Not a Bio Major but I got an A.
Pat Farris is an exceptional professor. If you're willing to put the effort into learning biology, don't hesitate to take her. There are no surprises: She gives her students everything they need to do well, but you must attend class, study, and engage the material. She's not warm & fuzzy, but she is quick, very smart, and wonderfully engaging.
Very nice and caring professor, however, her class is quite difficult as you must really spend time memorizing everything. Her study guides have everything you need to know, so ensure that you know everything om the study guide. The tests aren't that hard if you know the material, however, there is a lot of work to do.
i truly recommend this professor to anyone going into the medical field as she really preps you with her lectures. She was truly an amazing professor as i am now realizing it when taking physio. She lectured heavy but taught well and clear. Not ur typical powerpoint slide lectures. She made the class interesting. how to pass? take notes and listen!
