boring lectures!!!
you are the wrost lecturer i have ever had
Boring as hell! I switched into another class
Maybe if he'd put some expression in his voice I would actually go to his class
doesn't know how to teach let alone does he know anything about macroeconomics!!
He definitly knows his stuff, and is more than willing to help a student out.

Should ask his class for more feed back, teaches on thing and test another....
For an Economics prof he is very ethusiastic.

MONOTONE!!!! Nothing he says in lecture relates to the exams! Waste of time...
over eager to help, he doesn't know when to stop talking. lectures are very dull, better to just read the text, the lectures follow the text word for word. but he must have some good traits since Bower married him... what was she thinking???

Adorable!
Was it just me, or was he chained to his projector? Too slow, dull, much better to just read text book. Adomait was a MUCH better teacher, for me anyway.
Cool guy, give him a chance
Was an alright prof - kinda sarcastic and not that approachable. His lectures were okay though and his tests were fair.
BOOOOOORRRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNGGGGG! I wish i would have recored his voice, puts me to sleep faster than a tranquilizer. his tests were fair, but he just wouldn't let some topics go... example after example
He's ok, toughest exam in the world though!
snooze...boring boring lectures. Change you tone of voice and move around a bit Martin! Also, he could give more concise test outlines.
If you do the readings before class, everything he says is going to make perfect sense. If not your likely to fall asleep or just get lost. Very fair teacher, if you do the work you will get a good mark .
Very boring guy, explains concepts well, kinda makes you feel dumb if you approach, makes it seem like you should know everything. Very fair with exams though, wants everyone to do well.
He prided himself with making notes before class, but the notes were illegible, Livernois was so much better, Adomait was even better. The fact he was boring didnt help, my friend is retaking it this term and its just as bad he said. nice guy, crap prof.
Very interesting and thought-provoking lectures. he seems far better at second year courses than at ECON 1100.
Much better than Adomait at teaching Macro. Took the time to make extra notes for each chapter as well as giving question of emphasis for midterms and final. Overall: Good
The final was impossible, but okay guy.
This guy looks like Waldo from the "where's Waldo" book collection. His lectures may be boring but they aren't imporatant. His sample tests are always the exact same, except he changes numbers around. I've had him 3 times. Just know the samples.
claims 10% course failure rate but probably much higher. quizzes/mt/final all impossible especially MC.
bad prof nice guy. explanations are not clear and he's very borrowing..AND..how do u have pre-draw graphs that are messy?!..wont learn too much...his short answers are all from his study guide...EXACT same...but his MC is VERY TRICKY..
for this guy just below here. maybe you should do a little bit more work, then you will get a better mark. Prof martin is a very good instructor, although not as fun as some other prof but you will learn a lot from him lecture. if you want to have fun go to clubs or stay at home watching Letterman.
boring, but loves economics. If you did Econ, then you will dig him I think. I stopped going to lectures, but managed a good mark using the study guide and text-book.
Messy overhead notes. Exam questions are from course pack.
Horrible
Sloppy overheads and hard tests.
Should be fired.
he wasn't all that great. explanations were a bit hard to follow at times, but he knows his stuff. helpful enough, but can be quite boring. exams are pretty hard. overall not a bad teacher, but just didn't leave me with such a good feeling.

Nice guy.. LOVES ECON.... tests are fair if you do assigned problems. If not... your loss. Overall a fair professor.
Seems like a generally sweet guy, but lectures bore me to death!! Kind of monotone ... needs to work on his presentational skills
No Comments
puposely screwed everyone on the 2nd quiz....but didn't make the final any more fair than supposed
His classes are really boring. He usually makes the first quiz really and there is a high class average which he needs to bring down by throwing in a hard midterm or a hard quiz. But he usually is available for help whenever you need it around midterm time.
good guy, makes midterms similar to the ones he posts on webct from previous years. some reason his lectures are really boring eventhough the material isnt. only attend his lectures to combat insomnia.
His lectures are quite boring and his notes aren't the best but he is still a great proff. If you pay attention, his explanations are helpful and he is very helpful outside of class. Great proff
Just quit Pat. Avoid at all costs. The worst professor in the Econ department, and that is saying so much. Just quit Pat.
VERY smart proff... admittingly alittle boring but thats economics, not his fault... very enthusiastic and is extremly fair on his exams (EXACTLY like sample ones).. anyone who doesn't like him is either saying that cause they are dumb and failed or because they simply dont like the course! Good proff, take this course!
Poor notes, awful miterms.
Boring, bad prof.
Great Prof. A little shy in front of an auditorium, but one-on-one he's very helpful and approachable. Brings in personal interest stories about economics that help you understand real-world applications of the theory.
Lectures are a must-skip. Puts notes online. Quizzes and midterms were fair, but there was nothing that would have prepared me for the final (i.e. I did all of the sample exams, assignments multiple times, and it was still a struggle). I still got an 80+ though...
He is honestly a really helpful professor. A lot of people find him boring, but if you ever need a favor he will actually go out of his way to help you out.
You have to be an active learner to understand Professor Martin's teaching. Read a bit of the notes before class so you have an idea of what's going on and you won't fall asleep.
Martins an okay prof, to all those who claim his teaching style is boring; economics and fun aren't synonymous. Deal with it.He's really helpful and goes out of his way to answer all questions. The material is interesting and I only really had a problem with the assignments. If you take this course, make sure to give yourself enough time to do them.
A prof that rarely helps out his students and doesn't check emails. Sometimes, he will refer u the TAs, rather than givin out help. His Midterms contains questions that u wouldn't see in your notes.
brutal not a fan
Super nice guy. Not a great lecturer. He seems to be very uncomfortable while lecturing and does not make eye contact with the class (unless you sit in the front row). Passionate about economics and can ramble for ever.
good guy overall, truly does want to help his students, pretty clear in his lectures, you def. want to attend class because its a hard class as it is.his midterms and finals are quite difficult, you want to make sure you really understand the graphs and how things work.not much of a definitions guy, and not much formula work this semester
Martin doesn't make eye contact while lecturing, simply reads his power points which he posts on courselink. Does not go over any application what so ever, I found his lectures, in no shape or form, helped prepare me for the midterms. I am learning more from the textbook!
He teaches economics which is horrible, so i'm just commenting on his teaching. His midterms and exams have so many mistakes which makes them even more confusing. Some do not even have the right answer. He is almost monotone and puts me to sleep.
Do not take this course unless you want a low mark. Does not follow the text. Makes it harder than it should be. Will never give you answers to the work examples. He tells you to figure it out youself. How do you know if you are doing the math correctly without answers. This is not a required course, so don't waste your time.
Incredibly boring lecturer. Reads power point which is online. It's the type of class that is a less than a quarter full and those who come are on their phones or laptops. Would help if he provided answers to assigned problems.
In class, notes were confusing, and wouldn't look up at the class, and kind of expects you to know how he arrives at answers, doesn't go through the methods of how he got answers. However, if you go to his office hours, he is one of the most helpful profs ever! And super nice
ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. Not only was his lectures and slides were confusing, his midterms and exams have so much wrong answers. Econ is horrible being taught by him. DOES NOT help students and when he does help, he makes you feel like a total idiot. He actually said he was too busy to help a few days before exam.
Lectures are dry and not extremely helpful. His assignments can be very frustrating as his examples are not extensive, if you look online a little there some resources. He is very helpful in office hours. Do well on the assignments (2-3) and expect to take a hit on the final, its tough. It's tough to learn much the way he does this course.
Even as an econ major, couldnt bring myself to attend lecture after week 1. Made you fall asleep in class, his voice is so dull and droning, and he doesn't even make eye contact. Avoid.
He's nice but he's lectures are not at all beneficial. It's up to you and the textbook to pass this class. He doesn't prepare you for the midterm or final which are rather confusing and long even after you study. Good luck if you need to take this class; I barely passed.
I am writing this review in 2nd year now and I can say professor Martin is my favourite economics professor. Economics classes teach concepts that are difficult and hard to interpret for some people no matter who is teaching. I found him to be a very pleasant teacher who taught the concepts well. I enjoy economics and throughly enjoyed Martin's cla
The most boring prof ever, as well as the hardest course I have ever taken. I did all my work and readings and finished with a 54. Midterm and final was brutal. He made an effort to help us understand the concepts, but when someone in class asked for clarification he would look annoyed and irritated.
Hard to follow. Complicates topics that aren't really that complicated. Describes things very vaguely, and examples don't really give a clear indication as to what he means. Probably the better of the two options, considering Adomait, but try to avoid at all costs.
I attended one lecture all semester, the first. Had a 82 going into the exam, which thoroughly demolished me (I blame Adomait not him). Seemed like a pretty good guy. I just read the textbook to do everything, since everything tested comes straight from it. Can't really review the prof, but the course is more than passable on the text alone.
First off, the lectures were so dry and he totally knew it, he would show us graphs and told us it would help us sleep. Seriously? I would recommend buying the text book as all the MEL material is in it. I did all the readings and understood concepts much better than him teaching them in class. Macro is easier than micro but still a challenge.
Truly terrible prof who does not care about his students. His lectures are so boring, so dry and really terrible. His Midterms and Finals are much harder than the course material. Bad guy, bad prof.
I took the DE class and was although the content of the course was quite difficult, the way the course was structured was very helpful. We had no midterms, instead had 4 online tests Keeping up with the textbook readings was key to passing this course and prof Martin was a fair marker. The videos in the course content were quite helpful.
Harder then Adomait
Definitely not the best prof. I took the DE course and he did NOTHING. Doesn't grade, notes are useless (tbh non-existent), just incredibly frustrating. 0.3/10, i don't recommend. Avoid at all costs.
this course is already tough and the both profs make it not any easier. i thought martin would be better than adomait. they both know their stuff but suck at teaching
If there is a professor who fits the stereotype of a teacher who doesn't care about their students, it's this guy. One of the worst teachers/profs I have ever had in my educational career. Not helpful, rude, doesn't care about his students. The class isn't that hard though.
actually the worst prof at uofg... take my word for it and don't take a class with this prof unless you have to
Professor Martin is terrible. Does not care for his students. Assignment are recycled back to 2012. Put no effort into creating new projects. Is terrible at online teaching during the pandemic. Midterm was impossible to complete online. Do not take his class.
Terrible, terrible, terrible. Got copy and pasted email responses. Offered very little help and did absolutely zero teaching. Would not recommend.
Absolutely awful prof. Makes mid terms and final exam (combined 65%) impossible. There's a documented clip of him saying that he intentionally makes his tests extra hard bc he can raise marks to his desired average (claims to be 63%) but can't lower the average after marks are given. Has TA's grade recycled assignments and complains about his time.
Absolutely horrible. I don't know why profs like this are hired. He could care less about you. Econ is not supposed to be hard, its literally such a basic subject but this course, and Pat, makes you hate everything about it. Extremely hard- tests and quizzes and exams were ALL different. Do NOT take it if it's not mandatory.
The workload that Pat gave us was unreal. I have never suffered so much in a semester. The content is not hard but Pat Martin made it extremely difficult to do the work. He gave us an individual assignment that was 20 pages worth of questions and took a month to do but it was only worth 7.5% and there were 2 of these. MUCH MORE WORK ON TOP OF THIS!
He never responded to the discussion forums (neither did the TAs) which was where he said to message him. There was no support from him or the TAs felt like they did not care at all. Posts about things the day they are due so you will never really know what to do until the day of and by that time it's too late to change anything.
Professor Martin's class was one of my toughest classes of undergrad. The way the lecture content was displayed with scattered, disorganized, and did not add much to the material. There were minimal examples in class, and yet we were tested on lots of application questions. The assignments were unreasonably hard, and we did not have much support.
Literally the worst prof I've ever had. So content and textbook heavy yet so unhelpful. One of the hardest classes I've taken, I feel like it would've been better though with another prof.
I found this class very difficult. It is very textbook heavy, and I found myself having to teach myself through other resources. Little to no announcements or support was given from the prof or ta's. Final exam worth %55 puts a lot of pressure.
The fact that professor Martin gets paid to teach this course is wild. All the learning is done through an online textbook, he does post a 20 minute lecture for every unit but they are almost zero help and just someone doodling on some graphs. All the grading for tests is done by a computer, and students mark eachother's essays. It's ridiculous.
One of the most difficult classes I have ever taken at UofG. Exam is cumulative and worth 55%. Proctored tests throughout the semester which are extremely hard to do well on. One paper that barely contributes to your final mark.... and self taught through a text book. Could have been easier with more guidance from the Professor. Do not recommend.
The exams were very very difficult in my opinion and I felt it was hard to do well in this course. The essay counts for very little of your grade and was the only fair assignment. He doesn't post a lot to help you out which sucks in a distance education class. Economics is already hard as it is and I feel he doesn't make it any easier.
I took ECON 1100 distance education. For a difficult course, Dr. Martin gave minimal assistance. He rarely checked the discussion form where we ask questions, leaving people confused. All self-taught through a textbook, only reason he isn't a single star is because the lecture videos are ok, if you take this class with him, get ready to self teach!
tests are with Respondus and are really hard but the final exam is kinda okay (I haven't gotten the mark back n could've done terrible don't quote me). There is so much content and reading, but go to SLGs because they acc help a lot. imo take it DE with Martin like I did n go to IP lectures because people IP with Adomait did a lot worse than I did.
