WORST INSTRUCTOR I EVER HAD. does NOT know how to teach nutrition at all. this course had a lot of different sections and apparently, her section was the most difficult. her exams are impossible and difficult to understand. when you point out the mistakes she made on HER own exams, she refuses to add more points to our grades. B*TCH.
class for oral presentations, she needs to take it instead of teach it. hard tests harder grading. big **** bigger stomach. no lienency, take lifeskills just NOT with RATRICE BACK... ****
doesnt know how to teach at all. going to her class was seriously a waste of my time. dont think nutrition is an easy A with her teaching. the exam questions are made up by her and they all suck with lots of mistakes. she WONT give add more pts even if it was HER damn mistake.
dont take nutrition with her. itll suck for u.
I have no idea why Patrice has received such terrible reviews. She is a great teacher who really cares about her students. I have learned so much about nutrition and running because of her. She DOES change questions on her quizzes when she's wrong (which is rare). If you have the chance take this class.
Very helpful and friendly towards her students!
This class is not hard at all. As long as you the short assignments and read over the text it is very easy. Patrice is very helpful and knows the material.
I was surprised to read Patrice's aweful reviews. The class is not that hard, but you do have to study for the tests. Basically, you'll feel like youre back in high school with the hw and group projects but you can easily get an A if you put some effort in it. she offers extra credit and is very helpful.
Swimming for fitness with her is great. Its hard work but if you can't do as much, she is thoughtful and helpful yet she pushes those who can work harder. Keeps you in shape, explains everything clearly. Helps you before even asking and answer any questions you have. Great Experience.
DO NOT take any class with her. She doesn't know how to teach at all, and her class is boring as hell. exam questions are made up by her and they are really poorly written and usually with a lot of mistakes. never admits they are too vague when the whole class thinks they are. besides A is 96 or above and 87 is B- in this class. really stupid
Took Cycling with her for my gen-ed requirement. This class was too much work, 3 exams, logs, labs, homework's. Book was very expensive and rarely used the lab manual, and if you have 4 absences you fail. One Pro is that she pushes you in class to work hard and get a workout. This class was way too much work and unreasonable for a gen-ed.
Take her class! She is really helpful, is receptive to questions and keeps smiling. She makes you feel so comfortable, even if you are a not used to physical activity. I enjoyed her class.
Not a good experience, she makes the class harder than it has to be for a 2 credit gen ed gym class. Homework every class, 2 exams that depend on memorization of acronyms and specific numbers from the textbook. Participation and effort barely factor into grades. The textbook was expensive and unnecessary too. AVOID!
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. Patrice is not a nice professor. She makes the class really hard and is not lenient at all. I showed up to every class and did most of the work and got a c+. She doesnt care about her students or have any regard for the other work they have to do. She thinks her class is the only thing that is important in your life.beware
I took Swim for Fitness, and I really loved the class. Her tests were a bit difficult, but the class itself was great and pretty informative. The only HW was once a week to write and submit a few sentences into an online journal about your swimming that week, your mood, what you ate, etc. The class was a great workout and I HIGHLY recommend it :-D
this is the worst instructor that i have ever seen. i took swim for fitness but the class was harder than any of my other classes in that semester. i did stuff of this class more than my seminar history class. I hate her, thank you
so hard, so
i dont like her, very hard class. if you love ur self dont take her class. waste of time. take fletcher
Think twice when you taking this class. She thinks that it is the most important class that her students take at all. Lots of assignments, logs and exams. It took most time comparing to my other Major classes. Just avoid her.
i dont know what to say, just dont take this class. just dont
this is the worst teacher that i have ever seen. she is very hard for students and her class is very complicated and she wants many assignment. KEEP OUT !!
I don't think she is capable of teaching. She is like a dictator and she things that the most important class of her students is her class. I you want to have a better semester, don't do this. Don't do !
She is horrible!!! Her class is so hard and even though you do all work you can't get good grades..DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS EVER!
This is not an easy class. first of all everyone must understand this. you must do an assignment for every week and there are three exams. If i could go back i would never took this class
Patrice was a great teacher! She really cares about her students. You do not have to be an excellent swimmer to take this class. She really encourages all of her students to excel throughout the semester. Yes, she does give a decent amount of work, but nothing that is too difficult. I really learned a lot, and I highly recommend her!
this class is not easy, dont think i can swim and pass the class with a good grade because you cant
shes really not that bad. idk what everyone is saying. i was scared taking this classs because of all the bad reviews but shes really chill and she helps me out a lot. VERY GREAT PROFESSOR
I dont know why everyone is bashing on her. She give really simple assignments. Her exams are really easy too. If you're like me and dont have common sense then just pay attention in class. Its not hard at all. You probably need to study 30 min for each exam and get over an 85. If you do all your other work then you'll get an A. SUPER EASY CLASS
I had her for "Running and Health Awareness". Patrice is really nice, and her workouts are actually very challenging, which was something that i liked. The lectures, however, are boring, and the tests are very poorly written (dont bother buying the textbook, you won't need it. Overall i enjoyed the class, and it's clear to me that she is dedicated.
I would suggest to avoid her. She goes on rants during class that end up on the final. Oh and her tests/projects in unnecessarily hard. If you bust your balls you might get an A, for good effort expect a B. You do learn a lot from the class however...
This class was so much work for a Health & Wellness fulfillment. There were 6 assignments, every run had to be logged, and 3 tests. I felt that I understood running very well before the class and her lectures seemed easy to understand, but this didn't translate at all to my performance on her tests.
SWIM FOR FITNESS ! Easy A. Do your journals, write your logs and go to class. Work is minimal. I dont see why people complain about the work load. I spent less than 10 hours the entire semester on this class. That includes all the assignments and studying for the "exams". SUPER easy class.
took a swimming class with her. She is super nice. I read a review and someone said they did most of the assignments and got a c+. LOL The assignments take so little time to do. There is no excuse to not do it. Takes like 30 min to write something. Maybe even less. There are very few assignments too.
A true professional. Learned a lot of workout tips, technique and nutrition info in her class. A lot of assignments, journals, and stuff you have to keep up with but if you enjoy athletics you will like her.
Chill teacher, just show up to class
She reads straight off powerpoints and offers no discussion whatsoever. She is a good person, just a bad educator.
Wonderful instructor. I was so impressed with how much everyone improved their running by the end of the semester. Looked forward to every class. Assignments are straightforward and are an easy A as long as you follow her guidelines. Real runners run in all types of weather (as will you if you take this class).
Her lectures were boring, long, and written by the company read off the powerpoint slides. BUT she did read them enthusiastically. I did not expect this class to be this difficult. I did not enjoy the class, but I LOVE Patrice. She's a phenomenal woman that genuinely cares about you and enjoys the material discussed. I wish she would adopt me.
She reads directly from the slides during her lectures, but incorporates her own knowledge as she does so. Her projects are tedious and very time-consuming, and necessitate the use of an online program. Her tests are difficult to prepare for; many of the questions are based on information she did not spend much time explaining in class.
Trust me, you will run. In the beginning we started at about 2 miles a class and went up to almost 5. That being said, it is enjoyable and she does separate you based on ability so it's no big deal! Easy A as long as you show up and do the assignments.
Fun class. Assignments are easy, all you have to do is do them and you'll get an A. Highly recommended.
Patrice is a great instructor and is very knowledgeable on what she teaches. She can talk about the material without slides for the entirety of a class period but she moves very quickly. An upper level HWS class is not necessarily an Easy A and you need to put effort forward. Effort is directly rewarded and will get you a good grade.
Do your work, don't skip class, and actually study. Patrice is really nice and has a lot of knowledge about the health and wellness field she wants people to be interested in their own heath so she's always open to questions and to talk.
This is the hardest class I have ever taken at bing and it was for my minor, of all things. She teaches the class as if everyone has a background in science which makes it impossible to understand. And the labs are hard but barely count based on grade percentage, leaving the 4 tests as 55% of your grade. She also talks down to students.
This is actually the hardest swimming class offered here which I didn't know when registering. However, this class is structured so that people of different abilities swim different amounts in workouts. She is super friendly and good at providing feedback on your swimming. If you put in effort on the few assignments we have they're very easy As.
You better have a background in science. For those without any such as myself, a business major, I found this class to be extremely difficult. She does not give any time to take notes during lectures, in which her power-points go beyond 50 slides at times. The material is extremely hard, such as bio-energetics and anatomy. Unexpected. shes nice.
Nutrition taken during Summer 2020. Great professor. Very friendly.
Loved this class. Would take again if possible.
There are no prerequisites for the class so you go into it thinking itll be a regular gym credit but the class is very science and math heavy. Patrice gives a lot of assignments and is extremely unreasonable. She expects you to take this class more seriously than all of your other classes and if youre not willing to do that then you wont pass.
The professor is very nice and stays on top of her emails. This class is difficult to do online and the professor was creative and adapted well. My only complaint is that the tests are extremely difficult and don't portray what is taught in class or written in the textbooks. That being said, the tests are only worth 20 percent of the grade.
rushed through chapters, unfair grading system, had no compassion towards students during a pandemic, labs did not maintain covid-19 protocols leaving many feeling uncomfortable.
She would have gotten a rating of 0 if that was an option.
Patrice: no. She will tell you all about her life and give you no explanation on the content. She was shook that Bing got moved online and was not ready for anything. There are no pre recs but you need so much bio and chem to even make sense of what she says. JUST DONT TAKE THIS WITH HER, OR ANY CLASS
if you're a senior don't even think about taking this class. 100000x harder than any of my major classes and even nutrition didn't even prepare me for this. labs are ridiculously hard and only worth 10% and she has no sympathy for students despite the fact that we are in a pandemic. definitely does not know what she is teaching. reads from slides.
this class needs a trigger warning because some lectures can be quite insensitive. this woman is indeed , tripping.
Patrice reads directly off slides that make no sense and doesnt explain anything. online textbook has ALL the info but its complex & hard to understand. She randomly calls on people during zoom to see if youre still there, camera mandatory. passive aggressive to the class when no one understands anything. Possible to get an A if you study hard.
doesn't understand the material she teaches. reads directly from slides and offers no explanations. rushes through material. NOT receptive to questions, will make you feel stupid for asking anything. unprepared. rude. condescending. did not maintain covid-19 protocols AT ALL. do not take this class with patrice.
Half of each class was a workout, and the other half was lecture. Workouts were pretty good. Lecture was vague slides and very in-depth information about muscles and nutrition. Exams were super specific and very difficult, even if you do pay attention. Multiple projects and a ton of book work for a 2-credit gym class.
Patrice is kind and knows a lot about swimming and stroke work. She is accommodating to all levels of swimmers and makes fun practices. I enjoyed her class even as a competitive swimmer for many years as she was able to teach me some new tricks. She also gave good feedback on nutrition and goal assignments.
The only thing I enjoyed were the workouts. The rest of the class included exams that were way too specific and difficult, too much extra work outside of class, and extremely boring lectures. The lectures were directly after the workouts so it was often really hard to pay attention and would have been more effective if they were before the workouts
This class isn't solely working out, there's a good amount of work outside of the class here and there. I had a lot of fun doing the workouts and learning what she had to teach, I'm honestly not sure why she had some bad ratings on here. I thought she was so sweet and caring, pressure was pretty low.
The workouts were great. Unfortunately her tests and assignments were not so great. The tests were filled with difficult and specific science questions, and the assignments were busy work that were graded harshly. If I had taken a wellness class with any other professor, I probably would've gotten an A.
If you want to take an upper level bio be my guest. I'm a bio major and this might be the worst class I've ever taken. Please stay away from this women at all costs
She's a great instructor. Written Midterm based off of what you learned in class discussions before swimming. Pretty straight forward, I would advise taking notes. Swim is fun and Patrice is also great. I wouldn't call her lenient though. Willing to be flexible but must have a valid reasoning. Can miss 4 classes, but each miss counts towards grade.
Professor Back is not a bad professor. She provides enough resources to do well in the class. HOWEVER, this is an extreme amount of work for a health and wellness class. If you are taking HWS336 for hws credit - take another class. This is comparable to an upper level bio class. I don't know how anyone who doesn't have a bio background can do well.
This was a very difficult class, you need a lot of bio background in order to do well. Hardest class I've taken and do not take during your senior year!
she is rude
The worst professor I ever had, and the hardest class to take in the HWS minor. Her presentations are unorganized, she doesn't even teach us the content she just talks and reads directly from her notes. Avoid taking this class with her if you can, take it with the other professor. highly don't recommend taking this class your senior year
This class is really hard but if you put in the work you'll do good. Professor Back is very knowledgable and wants her students to succeed. I took the class and TA for her now. I would definitely take more classes with her. I wouldn't take this class unless you're a health and wellness minor and need it
This class requires a lot of work. The lab worksheets are not that challenging, but completing the labs and requires you to touch and workout with other people, which can be very uncomfortable. She does not explain concepts well and she just assumes you know it. Don't recommend this course at all
I don't recommend taking this class with Back. She makes the course way harder than it should and she does not help out when you let her know you are struggling with the course material. You should take this class with the other professor if you want to learn and do well. Back is very disorganized in her lectures and just reads off a sheet of paper
I found that the concepts are much simpler than Back makes them seem, and the book is very helpful in explaining them. The exams are difficult but not impossible, as long as you put the work in, (which will go beyond looking at the slides because they tend to be rather scarce). Do contemporary health issues if you need a 4-credit HWS class instead!
The tests are hard but if you study the textbook and do all of the homework you can do well. She explains concepts better than the other comments are saying but I learned the most from the textbook. She always makes sure to reinforce the important parts that will be heavily covered on the tests and she provides review sheets that are helpful.
She kinda smells
She is great! Best teacher ever!
Loved having her as a professor. She was very caring about all students. One test and a few writing assignments that don't take too much effort.
I took a swim class and if you missed more than two classes you essentially lost a letter grade for each absence after the first two. The work and class itself are rather easy but attendance is absolutely mandatory, even if you are sick (excluding covid this semester).
The worst professor I've ever had, my class was genuinely trauma-bonded. Takes off points for the most ridiculous things and barely explains anything, throws WAY too much content at you and expects you to remember the craziest things. Genuinely wants to see everyone fail. AVOID AT ALL COSTS NOT WORTH THE MINOR.
Reposting because I pressed the wrong difficulty rating. The worst professor I've ever had, my class was genuinely trauma-bonded. Takes off points for the most ridiculous things and barely explains anything, throws WAY too much content at you and expects you to remember the craziest things. Genuinely wants to see everyone fail. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
Makes class difficult for no reason. Makes you buy a textbook when it is common knowledge that college students don't have much money to begin with. Throws everything at you all at once with very little guidance. Don't know why professors are like this, it doesn't have to be that way.
Not much of a teacher. Just reads off a packet. Attendance is mandatory but you don't really gain much from the lectures because everything is online. Slides are incomplete and she goes way too fast during class to complete the information in the slides. exams are 10+ pages and extremely difficult. Can get a little condescending
Professor Back is fine, but if you plan to take her, be ready to commit to making basically every class. She only allows 2 absences per semester, regardless of circumstance (you'd basically need a hospital note to get out for an injury). Assignments can also be annoying with a heavy focus on goal setting and lifestyle changes.
Professor Back is good, but if you plan to take her, be ready to commit to going to every class. She only allows 2 absences per semester, regardless of circumstance. For some assignments like papers and swim logs, as long as you try and show up you will do good
DONT TAKE THIS CLASS UNLESS HWS MINOR! the material is HARD but patrice makes it way harder than it has to be. this class is harder than some upper level bio courses. lots of assignments that are worth little of your total grade. lectures include her reading off of a paper and she can be really rude at times. take with other instructor if possible!
only allows two absences. she expects you to go to every class even if you end up in the hospital. don't take for gym credit unless you really like swimming.
I got ill and had to go to her class in freezing weather, being barely able to move, with terrible headache, stuffy nose, and sore throat because otherwise I would borderline fail her class. She doesn't think that being ill is an excuse not to swim. You have at most 2 absences. Remember, guys, all professors care about you and are never sadistic.
LOVEDDD this diva. For those who don't want an ass kicking workout, do not take the class. Simple. She is so fun and knows how to make amazing workouts. All that she wants is to see ur motivated and that u want to do well. Very kind and nice. Be on her good side. Also assignments/logs can be long but they're very straightforward/not a tough grader.
Can teach well but does not take lateness lightly no matter what. Miscommunication at times.
