Really intelligent. You can learn so much from her.

Boring

I took 3 sociology classes with her. She is excited about what she does and has a love for teaching. She shows this by helping students think about issues and by her envolvement with students during and outside of the class room. Outstanding Teacher
She is awesome! The best!
I have taken many classes with her because she is one of the best. She loves what she does and is VERY knowledgable. Discussions are interesting instead of boring, I find myself going to class because I WANT to, not because I have to. She's awesome!
She is easily the best teacher I have had at Chemeketa. She's friendly and nice without being a pushover. She makes things very interesting and isn't intimidating in the least; she's very approachable.
She is so nice and down to earth, one of the best teachers at Chemeketa that I have came across. Only downer was no assignments just 3 midterms... Hope you are good at multiple choice
She's very interesting so it makes it easy to learn, and she goes over material slowly so you have time to take notes. The tests are fairly straight foward, but some of the questions can be a little tricky.
She is AWESOME! Presents material very clearly, conscise, and detailed. Reviews well, and clearly defines what's expected. She is a student of Dell Cornutt, and is working on replacing him as #1 (even though he is a great teacher as well).
Great speaker, very concise, very fair. Tough, but fair. Do work, listen, participate, and you'll get far.
this instructor has a tendency to have questions on exams that seem to be misleading, not a clear path to the correct answer.people need to be leary when thinking about taking this instructor.
A wonderful woman. She made the class more enjoyable and understandable by relating to everyday life. Graded soley on three exams, no homework.
The very best online instructor through Chemeketa. She was very organized, the material was interesting, and I learned more from her classes than any others, both online and in real life classrooms. Thank you Patricia!
Not very good communication but is an okay teacher is guess.

The instructor was fine she was helpfull when and if you needed it,but theres a lot of reading and the test are not easy.So if you are looking for an easy A that you don't have to work for then forget this class.BUT its not hard to get that A if you do your reading, do the on-line quizes and study hard.Good class you can learn a lot from the book.

Awesome teacher. Explains things clearly and always makes sure you understand

Nice teacher and explains things clearly. Although she does quiz a lot on things she doesn't cover in class. Pay extra attention to the reading and you'll do great.
She's full of herself. She looks like she's laughing at everybody and she mocks anyone who dissents in class. She talks about sociology like it's a cult she discovered when she was desperate and now she's a zealous convert. Awful.
Patricia was a good instructor for this class. She answered questions in a timely matter. Tests were hard and I found I needed to use the book alot and there didn't seem to be enough time to complete the exams. It's possible to get an A if you work hard and contribute meaningful discussion questions. I did!!!
Pat is one of the best teachers I have had at Chemeketa. Very dedicated to what she does, as is her commitment to teaching. She is not an easy grader, but is very clear on what is expected. Attending class and reading the material is a must, as is studying. She was always willing to help any way she could. Definately recommended.
Not worldly, yet she spends more time bragging about how much she thinks she knows than actually teaching. She's a great example of someone who's bitter after being passed up by those much more qualified to teach at a major university and in turn appears bent on sabotaging anyone headed in that direction. I'd hate to be one of her children.
I received an A despite having her as an instructor. She does not know her own course material. Her style of testing does not reflect your level of subject knowledge but rather how well you are able to identify her test manipulations and navigate trick questions. She appears more interested in creating stress than imparting knowledge. Avoid her.
I took this class during summer 5 week accelerated online term and it was a lot of work, but not necessarily hard. You have to read a ton!!! If you read the text and take the sample quizes then you got it made. I highly recommend using the CD rom that comes with the text, she uses some of those questions on the test.
I felt discriminated against by her the entire time because of my skin color. But if you're a white christian conservative vocalizing your desire to have lots of children you'll no doubt receive an A from her.
this class sucked. she grades really hard and she has to work on her attitude. The tests dont reflect what she talks about, its totally different.
She's okay. Class was sort of hard, and tests were confusing. I think there are better sociology teachers out there.

I received an A in this class but agree that she has an agenda and isn't afraid to discuss it.
Hard Tests. Look forward to studying a lot. From an online perspective, she seemed nice.
Many students who attend class were first year, and older learners. Her expectations on writing for her 101 class was the same for the 122 class I had at Chemeketa. This is not helpful to the students with the unrealistic expectations. If you want higher writing abilities for 101, 102,&103 level classes than declare this on the schedule.
Very nice teacher very helpful! I like the information learned from this class. It was alot of work and the test are not easy!!! You have to study hard but if you know your stuff you can make it. Lots of discussions online about your option and using information the book tells you about. Group participation is a must.
Took this online and the weekly discussions were a piece of cake. You do have to check in because she states it's mandatory. The tests on the other hand are STUPID! They are very unclear, hard, and I swear I got a grade I shouldn't have on one of them that makes me suspicious..beware of the tests for sure!
If you feel like you need extra help from proffessors in classes, a class with patty would be like barking up the wrong tree. She blows you off when you meet her and rarely emails you back...VERY POOR COMMUNICATION. Also Tests are very unclear and not at all relavent to class discussions.
This class was very cool. She was interested in the topic and liked to discuss it in depth. If you are a snot-nosed kid and can't take responsability for yourself and you work, you should not take one of her classes. You will be made a fool of and rightly so.
Great professor. She's passionate about the subject and knows the material.
She is not a good instructor!
I would highly recommend taking her class! She knows her stuff and is really helpful! If you read the material and study you'll have no problem getting an A. She has an optional final and all tests and quizes are online and open book. Lectures were interesting! Great teacher :)
She is an awesome teacher! If you read the material and study you'll have no problem getting an A. She knows her stuff and makes lectures interesting! She has an optional final and all her tests and quizes are open book and online! I would highly recommend her to anyone!
For some reason, people in my class didn't like her at all...but I thought she was great! She was interesting and nice. All tests and quizzes are open book/open notes and online, so you can take them whenever in the week you're ready. Yes, you're going to have to go to class, pay attention, and read, but isn't that expected in college? Reccomended.
patricia is an OK teacher. the first half of the course i absolutely hated her, second half of the course i liked her. she knows her stuff. i would recommend a different teacher if possible, but if you cant find one she's not too bad.
this is an alright class. i think the only way to really pass it is if you really have a genuine interest in sociology. you HAVE to do you reading, and you HAVE to study, and there is lots of both. cool teacher, tough class.
She is to the point. She encourages you to communicate with her. If you make an effort to learn. you will pass. deadlines are deadlines. If you ask for help, you will get it. :-)
She is a good teacher, but she needs to find a different way of teaching students the material. There is no homework, except for a few papers and weekly online multiple choice quizzes and 3 mid terms. If you're good at teaching yourself, you'll have no problem, otherwise don't take this class with her. And don't miss any days or she'll dock points.
tough class!
Great teacher, all you have to do is do the reading and take the quizzes and midterms. It's tough if you don't do that, but she's a pretty easy teacher
Not a good teacher, and isn't helpful although she claims to be. Very judgemental and condeming.
A class that requires WORK and participation, but if you do the work you will get a good grade. She is clear on her expectations and is very fair in her grading. I loved this class and thought she was an outstanding professor. HIGHLY recommend.
Demanding but a great class. You have to work hard and participate but she will grade you accordingly. She is very informative and has made learning sociology powerful. I highly recommend
I took Death, Dying and bereavement which I was every excited to take. She asks questions on the tests that we never go over in the book. Never gets back to you when you email a question, I would take this course again because the reading material was interesting, but i would not take it with Patricia again.
If you do all the textbook reading and UNDERSTAND what your reading, then you will pass! STUDY for Mid-term Essays. There will be 3 Mid-terms. Does give extra Credit..only twice. Good Personality!
I took the Death, Dying and Bereavement class. I strongly recommend never skipping reading assignments, get them all done on time! And go to her in person to ask questions, she never got back to my emails. She was harsh, but I liked the content of the class, just tough it out, it's interesting.
Very demanding class, if your looking for an easy grade find something else. If your looking to learn i recommend it.
Incredible class. I didn't know anything about sociology before going in to the class, but Patricia made it interesting and I really enjoyed it! Class is difficult, and requires studying, but is easy with time put in to it. Open mind and deep thinking is necessary! Overall an awesome class!
Extremely demanding. Ridiculously hard to do well on the tests and quizzes. Take a different professor.
Patricia is an amazing professor! She is very engaging and does a great job applying concepts to current issues for a great understanding! Do the homework and ask questions and you'll do great! I would highly recommend any class from her!
Expects students to be very well versed in sociology theory and methods. If you are not already an advanced sociology major I would not recommend this instructor. Additionally she will ask for your opinion in the mid-term essay questions but dock your grade if it varies from her opinion on the matter.
She is a great teacher, but not easy. Keep up on your reading, show up and you will do fine. She might be tough but she is fair.
Not gonna lie but she was one of the Hardest instructors I've taken. She expects you to know every single chapter in detail. Her test are really hard and the reading is kind of confusing. I recommend taking her if your majoring in sociology because she explains everything in major detail!
FIND A DIFFERENT INSTRUCTOR!
I don't know why people have such a difficult time with her. She's thorough, helpful & knowledgeable. I've taken more than one course with this instructor & each time has been great. Is it a little bit challenging? Sure, but not overly so. This is COLLEGE, so if it were easy she wouldn't be doing her job. I definitely recommend this course.
She does her job well. On point, energized, and thorough individual with a common goal, to allow her students to learn the subject. This can be a hard course if you do not keep up with the readings. She is very helpful.
There is a special edition book for this class that can only be purchased at the book store. That information is not clear on the syllabus.
I found Patricia to be very knowledgable on the topic of Sociology as well as enlightening. She does require a lot of reading and her lectures are there to help pull the topics together. Overall, a great experience!
Patricia was an excellent teacher. She loves what she does and her enthusiasm is obvious. She cares about students and it balances well with her professionalism. I loved her class!
This professor was helpful, kind, and organized. I took her online The Sociological Perspective class. If you read the chapters, and make a study guide, it is a easy class. Easy A! For the Final, you can take two Mid term exams (essay formed) over a series of four days, and the total for the two exams are your final. I love this class
A lot of reading from the text book. I felt Patricia was there for me if I had any questions. She was very clear in the class direction and assignments. If you complete all assignments and extra credit you should get an easy A. The tests are all open book and essay questions. Take your time with them and you should be OK. Final test is optional.
The entire class schedule is made available from day one. There are only three written assignments, two exams and a handful of discussion posts to participate in. It is important to read through her lecture notes, this helps to summarize the her key points from the text. This class covers half of the textbook. Fair grader. Would take again.
This instructor has high expectations but isn't clear what she wants. She doesn't give full credit for anything! She told us that her highest grade for a midterm this term was 4445. Nobody got a perfect score? Be prepared to do tons of work and get low grades. She sucks.
She is very self centered. If you don't think like her, your wrong. She grades like she is some university professor, but she's not. You'll be lucky to get a C. In my opinion pick a different teacher if you want a good grade. She takes the class way to serious, as if it is her life.
Very confusing and high expectations. Expects you to read her mind on what she wants and think like her. I worked my tail off studying and got low grades on everything. I barely passed with a C. I would not recommend her to anyone!
I learned one major thing in this class: I am not into sociology. That being said, Patricia Antione is a good instructor who cares for her students and truly wants to help them learn. She is passionate and knowledgeable about Sociology and shares interesting personal experiences. There are a couple papers and a couple tests, not too difficult.
She is a very nice professor. But she also is very tough on grading. Her lectures are long and participation is required. Besides the lectures we had to read the entire textbook and take weekly tests. Alot of information in a short amount of time.
Patricia was not the best instructor I have had at Chemeketa. Her lectures are hard to follow (and keeping it real they're hard to stay awake during)her lectures have nothing to do with what is on her test. Make sure you read the text and just try to pretend to think like a sociologist when answering the questions on her test. Quizlet 4 herquizzes
If you have a busy life, do not take this professor! One of the assignments she gives requires you to log every interaction you have with an electronic device (iPod, cash register, etc). This is impossible (and even dangerous) in some settings, such as where I work, but she doesn't seem to understand that I (and other students) can't do it.
She is an amazing teacher. The class schedule clear from the beginning . Participation is important because the class book is dry and hard to understand, and her lectures are amazing. The reading material is heavy , but she is available after class or in her office hours to answer for questions. Weekly quizzes with open book and open note.
Complex subject and teacher. She grades very stringently, BUT bumped my grade up a whole letter because I was close to a B and was participating routinely. Take her if you want to learn to think from a new angle- if you're strapped for time, it might be best to look elsewhere. Writing a dissenting opinion in a paper requires PROOF of your argument.
take this class and you will never get an A, she expects you to be able to read her mind on all the questions---NEVER---- TAKE HER AGAIN FOR ANY CLASS I answered her questions word for word out of book and she said it was incorrect and then she added parts to the question that was not on the tests.
This instructor has high, but reasonable, expectations - and it is possible to get an A. Read all of the assigned material, and be very thorough in your responses. Begin your exams as early as possible to give yourself ample time to complete them. This class will help prepare you for upper level classes. I enjoyed the class and learned a lot.
Extremely tough grader. I took this class because I wanted to gain some knowledge about the environment and society, not because I'm getting a PHD in the subject. Her feedback is harsh and honestly hurt my feelings.
Great instructor, she does assign lots of homework and her exam are heavily weighed.
Patricia's a wonderful woman. She's a very kind person but is a very tough grader. Participation really matters. There's two midterms and an optional online final. She allowed one 3x5 card on first midterm. If you choose to take the final and do better than you did on one of your midterms, she'll drop the lowest scored midterm and keep the final.
She has fun teaching and tries to make it fun for students. You are expected to read a lot and be ready for class, otherwise she will sanction you.
Do not take her class if you are anti social and hate participating. Participation is a requirement. She is a very hard grader. Lot of reading must be done and there's a quiz every week on BB. You take 3 tests and she takes your 2 best scores for your final grade. Quizlet is your best friend for the quizzes.
This was my chance to fall in love with sociology and she utterly ruined it. She doesnt even talk about the material in the textbook, only her opinions on society and politics. Bad professor. Quizlet for quizzes and make stuff up in class and youll pass.
Patricia is very kind but I didnt learn much from this class honestly. She doesnt put in your grade throughout the term until the very end and shes a very tough grader. The lectures are confusing and she makes you feel bad for not participating. 2 midterms, and an option final. You can use a notecard on the first midterm but not on the second.
She was a great teacher. Sometimes it seemed like we were expected to know the information well enough to teach it which was arduous and unnecessary. Online quizzes have a cutoff time - you get locked out. Exams have an arrival time - you get locked out. Essay style answers on exams are grueling. Thought it would be an easy A but was mistaken.
She seems like a decent teacher. As long as you participate some what you'll be fine and do the work. Lots of reading though. She also gives students a piece of paper for a name tag to put on the table so during lecture she can call on students. I've also realized that more girls take this class than boys if that matters.
I took her online SOC204 class expecting it to be not so difficult as it is an entry level course. The discussions have to be so incredibly in depth its almost impossible to get 10/10. She has chapter readings plus 2 different lectures. And there are papers, quizzes, discussions, and mid-term and final in the class with one extra credit.
Tough grader, rely's heavily on the text book and you will need tons of time to answer he in-depth questions during discussions. Quizzlet will be your best friend.
Not sure if she expects a page essay for answers or what. Tough on grading, even with writing 2+ paragraph answers for discussion and midterm/final questions, I still was not expanding enough on my answers. Seems close to impossible to get an A on anything.
I enjoyed the subject matter so the class wasn't too bad but I didn't interact with the teacher much at all. When I did ask questions through email, she answered in short sentences. The homework assignments were simple, discussion required, the quizzes multiple choice, and the midterms and final were all essay questions. Be prepared to write.
The only thing that helped me barley get an A was the extra credit, which i still didnt get full points on. She is a really tough grader, no matter what my answers were they were never full points. Seemed impossible to get a perfect score on any assignement. Be prepared to go in depth on those essay questions.
Patricia expects the best from her students, she expects you to participate and ask questions daily for points. There is a lot of writing and she offers a second midterm online for if you want to improve your grade. Wasn't the easiest A but did offer extra credit to boost to an A. Super nice teacher and cares. Take her if you want to learn!
Way too picky of a grader. I didn't enjoy her class at all.
Shes alright. Sorta has a strong mindset on certain issues, so if youre on the opposing side your grade might deflect what she believes is right. Interesting lectures (but its pretty much whats in the text). Grade relies a lot on weekly quiz scores, exams and essay projects. Good organization for a remote learning course!
Not as hard as many people say. Just do the work
Really interesting class and awesome lectures. Not nearly as hard as some are saying. She will go above and beyond to help students do good in the class. Less work than my other classes.
Best class ever! Interesting information, clear website and easy to following instructions. Reasonable work load. Not difficult to get an A.
If you want to teach yourself and then get a low grade because you had to then take this class !
Do the extra credit assignment and you will probably get the A. She graded pretty fairly and her lectures had some valuable info. Despite some reviews here, she's not out to hurt your GPA. She wants you to succeed!
I paid attention to how deep she wanted the responses based on her feedback and made sure to be more inclusive with my already long answers. I personally feel she is trying to get us to see the whole picture and answer accordingly. She was hard but good and worth having again. I recommend her!
Course is primarily consists of one discussion each week and responding to two other classmates. She wants discussion post to be posted on Thursday and respond to people on Sunday.Due dates for discussions are very misleading you can easily forget. She expects you to elaborate a lot in order to get full points.Slow grader, know your grade by mid-term
There was very little teacher contact as an online course, but the class overall was balanced. Coursework load was appropriate for a 4 credit class, discussions weekly, 2 papers and 2 exams. My only complaint is that the exams are disproportionately a large part of your grade. The average of your exams will be your final grade so utilize the text
So far, I feel defeated. I feel that I am being clear on my papers, and nothing seems to be good enough for her. Feedback is harsh and bordering on rude. She also takes a long time to grade so you have no idea how you're doing for weeks.
there are much better teachers in the sociology department. patricia constantly goes on rants about how bad gen z is etc. the majority of her lectures are just tangents loosely related to the text. takes at least a month for her to grade anything, and if you ask for feedback before submitting an assignment she goes on a condescending rant.
I took Sociology 204 with Professor Patricia. The course had heavy readings and very strict grading. Even using ChatGPT, she deducted points, making an A difficult. Grading delays meant we didn't know our progress until it was too late to drop. Many students share similar frustrations. The experience was challenging and frustrating.
Professor Antoine's class was challenging but manageable. Utilizing resources like ChatGPT and Unstuck study helped with the heavy reading load and tough grading. Overall, a rewarding experience for diligent students.
I literally dislike her so much this is a horrible class and honestly shes top 5 reasons why people dislike LA majors she obviously just wants everyone to agree with what she has to say
This class was easy for me, yes you do a lot of writing but nothing crazy. No crazy essays, and midterm and final are on canvas, and they're very easy. As long as you keep doing your work, it's an easy A. I didn't feel overwhelmed with the work load. This is a class to take if you want a chill class credit.
Horrible professor, just don't take her. Inconsistent grading and unclear due dates.
If anyone was thinking about taking "sociology: death and dying", just a warning it's NOT an easy A. The midterm and final are 5 essays EACH, and the textbook reading is heavy. There is an extra credit option (an outline of a chapter of your choosing), and make sure everything is on time, she deducts a ton of points if it's late.
