Not too awful, not too great either. Could definitely stand to step back from the feminist platform now and again.

Tough professor. She's a big feminist so be careful what you write about. She wants everyone to participate, so suck up by speaking up a lot during class.
She seems to be pretty clear, but its still early to tell...not a bad teacher, but also not too interesting. Get used to taking notes to stay up.
Nice teacher...sometimes her words are confusing, and she's very clear and helpful
hard, but a very nice lady
average, not eady, yet not hard
SHE HATES ALL MALES...if you're a male don't take this course
i love her class. i think that she is a terrific teacher
Dr.Ard is a tough teacher whom is extremely enthusiastic and well prepared. I leraned a great deal in her course and would highly reccomend taking her classes
She is a tough grader but is very nice and extremely helpful.
she can't teach and isn't easy or nice at all
I learned to write better in class... but is very hard... everyone got an F the first paper. She is big on GOOD THESIS statements and if it doesn't agree with her opinions, they are wrong...
She's not that bad. We have a lot of papers. but they only have to be 3-4 pages and she doesn't really look to fail anyone. We often get a whole class or two at the computers just to work on our papers. The only annoying thing is the research paper.
Ard is one of the most imteresting professor I've had. She brings up a lot of great topics, and really gets you thinking. Her class is all writing though and she can grade very critically, so if your not a strong writer, it might not be a the best.
although a little hard, she's a very good professor and knows what she is talking about. she is critical in grading however, so if you can't take constructive criticism, don't take her class.
3-4 papers, tough grader... not the type of teacher who will warm up to you but she's not bad... not great but could be worse...
A lot of paper writing, but they're short. Research paper is very tough, and she's a tough grader. Writes a lot on your papers and points out a lot of error, so don't feel bad. Atrocious handwriting.
She's tough but if you take the time to talk to her, she'll help you and your grade will probably improve.
Dr. Ard is a quality English professor. Class is no more demanding then A.P. English in high school. 5 papers throughout the semester which include one 6-8 page research paper and an in class essay. Generally requires papers to be no more than 3-4 pages.
A very smart, very VERY liberal woman. I respect her immensely, but would only recommend her to good writers.. Poor writers will not have a good time in her classes.
She's smart, but she is NOT a friendly or warm person. She's boring, and her class became redundant when I had her.
FOr womens writers, she was excellent! Papers are short, but thesis statements are key. Is willing to help if you ask, so if your writing skills are lacking, don't hesitate to make an appt. with her. Love her so much, I'm taking her again for child lit!
she sucks and is very sexest toward males
Are you male? If so, do not step foot in a classroom headed by Ard. She actually had the nerve to deduct points on one of my papers because I didn't write it entirely on women.
SOO HARD! if u do not do exactly how she wants it you have to do it over. some have to write papers 4 times! kinda rude lady. doesnt like giving A's. not easy and very boring
Terrible teacher. Do not take her. You will regret it I had to drop her. Nothing that you write will make this women happy. Avoid Taking her. Take any other teacher but her. She always claims you are paralleling the arguement of the person you write about
The books for children's lit were fun

She's tough but you will appreciate her after you take her b/c she will teach you how to write properly. Take if you're a good writer and want to improve but don't take if you don't want to put the effort in. An A is possible...I got one.
She's wonderful, helpful, and very interesting. i would recommend taking her courses if you are willing to work.
Couldn't agree more that she is tough, but that you will appreciate her later because she truly does teach you how to write properly. She made me re-do countless essay during my Freshman year, and at consistantly gave me C's but I am grateful. I love her.
I came to Ramapooh in 2001 with limited writing skills. To this day I put her tips to use. I learned a lot but I don't remember her being particularly harsh...but I've killed a lot of brain cells since then. To improve writing skills, I suggest Ard.
seriously guys, dont take her. there are better profs than her, its not like we are in law sch. and getting c's in english is definitely not good, a big feminist. she never likes your thesis, thinks hers is the best and ripped a students paper.
Yes, she is tough and demanding but it makes you such a better writer. I was always good at english but she still helped me so much. Very helpful with papers and a very smart woman. She may be tough but she is also there to help you.
Please dont support this feminist ultra liberal proffesor. She is indoctrinating liberal ideas in students. she is rude, not to mention extremely difficult to write for. Nothing will make her happy. Please for the sake of sanity, avoid her.
I had Dr. Ard for 2 classes (English & Brit Lit) and she was wonderful in both of them. She's VERY hard if you don't want to do any work & she won't give easy As, but she's very intelligent and knowledgable. You can't help but to learn a lot in her class.

I'm pretty sure she gets pleasure ripping papers apart, but in the end it does make you a better writer. Her paper topics are interesting but she could tone down on her harsh criticism. She always makes herself available for help though so it'd not hard to do well.
ok, crazy psycho. ripps papers for the sake of it. unhelpful. she would read my papers and just make grammer changes then give me a C and say she was being lenient. she'll say you have great ideas but one run-on and you're done. half the papers had something to do about beauty. do not take her.
RUN!! She is the ****es lady i have ever met in my life. She only gives 5 papers the whole semester and grades them the hardest possible way. Takes attendence everyday ... DONT TAKE HER TRUST ME
cares about her students becoming better writers - Its agreed that she does rip papers apart, but if you take her corrections seriously, you will get an A. Always there for extra help - use it and you WILL do good. I recommend her - 5 short papers are the only thing you have to do all semester
This teacher seems to have something against males. Tries to embarrass her students when she does not agree with you. I felt threatened many times in her class because of my social status. She sucks at life!
This woman is a terrible teacher. DO NOT TAKE HER. She says she will help you with your writing but does not. Very nasty and does not really care about her students. Do yourself a favor and run!
do not take her!!! all my friends really liked their college eng class but me. i dreaded every minute because she was impossible. she did not want to give A's. Run fast
DO NOT TAKE HER!her papers are impossible never gives above a C Psycho about attendence counted me absent when I brought in a doctors! note Says you can rewrite your papers but doesn't change your grade You waste your time writing these papers over and over all extra work and it gets you nothing!
hahah everyone's comments are funny. She is a TOUGH grader but she does make you a better writer. If you can't make a thesis and support it DONT TAKE HER CLASS. She does tend to rip papers apart but I got on her good side and got an A. The papers were easy topics tho and she never gave homework.
Worst Prof. EVER! She makes it seem like she will help, and then just makes you rewrite and doesn't really tell you what you are doing wrong. Her way or no way.
I had her two years ago in my first college class ever. She is the only reason I know how to write a good paper in any of the classes I have taken since. Don't take her suggestions as "she's just being a B****", take them as advice that you can and will need to use in the future.
Professor Ard is thoroughly misunderstood. Her negative ratings come from people who do not wish to improve their writing skills and actually work at a college level. She made Children's Lit an absolute joy to go to, and attaining an A is not out of any hard-working student's reach.
I have to admit she is not as bad as everyone warned me. She is a very good teacher and teaches the class very well. I will admit that she is not easy and you will have to work for your grade - but she improves your writing. 4 papers (2 pgs each) and a final (5-8 pgs). Work load is not bad at all. You read several kids and 2 young adult books.
She's a little tough, but you'll learn, and be a better writer when you finish her class. She brought up so many interesting topics, and ideas in the class, I really enjoyed just being there for the subject matter discussed. She made everyone say something, and thats what was great about it, everyone participated. Very intelliget woman. Thanks Dr.
Dr. Ard was a great college English professor that motivated her students to do well with their papers. She is not very easy, for she is critical with papers, but Dr. Ard with get her students on the road to writing good papers.
Didn't think the class was too hard. You just have to give prof ard what she wants and she will give you a good grade. gives oppertunity to revise all papers after she correct them and makes suggestions. a little bit on the feminist side... that can get annoying at times but a pretty good teacher
Ard is a pretty tough grader and although i had to work really hard for my first A in that class, i really enjoyed the class immensely. Ard really improved my writing a lot and was always ready to give any extra help outside the classroom. Also a really nice, intelligent woman. Very knowledgeable on the subject matter.
She's absolutely, by far, the best literature teacher to take a class with. She made her classes very interesting & tries to help her students in any way possible. If you have a chance please take her, she taught me how to write papers. As long as u try & go to her 4 xtra help, u will get a good grade! I HIGHLY RECOMEND HER!!
Ohhh....Dr. Ard is Wonderful! She'll challenge you, but she's very easy to understand, and she'll do anything to help a student pass. Great teacher. Everyone should take her once.
Although some of the reading were dry, Dr. Ard was a great teacher. Shewas easy to understand, and I never got below a B+ on a paper - just make sure you can make a thesis, and if you can't, have her help you.
She's tough, but her classes are very worth it. She's a smart person and incredibly informative. You'll work a lot, but learn a lot from it.

Makes the class interesting but is a hard grader. Is willing to help you out whenever. Keeps the class talkative and tries. Recommend taking it to become a better writer
There are 5 papers. 4 of them are 3 to 6 pages, and 1 is longer. She is very clear on the paper requirements. It's just really difficult coming up with thesis statements for the papers.
This teacher is the worst i've ever had in my life. Even my roomate hates her and he doesn't even take the class. She gives the worst reading assignments that have nothing to do with anything, and the way she grades is almost impossible...bottom line...drop the class if you see her name on your schedule.
Whoever made the last comment is obviously a bonehead. Professor Ard is tough, but she makes it clear what is in store for the class and assigns interesting readings. The best thing I learned was to make a clear thesis and stick with it. Take this class if you want to become a better writer.
Professor Ard is a very good teacher to start of with. She definitely teaches you the basic writing skills and how to write a thesis paper. 5 papers in total. 3-4 pages long, one in class the research paper is longer. Very helpful person, always willing to read papers in her office hours.
Very tough teacher. If your not a strong writer, she'll rip you apart. She's also sort of mean, and is an ultra liberal/feminist type. She has fake eye brows. If your a freshmen take another teacher, she's satan
not my favorite class
Friendly, hard, but fair. Expects excellent writing. Give it to her!
I am registered w/OSS so I get accomodations which she said were fine until the middle of the semester when she all of a sudden had a problem and started to fail me and told me it was my fault that she didn't know what to do w/an OSS student!then she expected me to do all these ridiculous projects to get a better grade!that no one else had to do!
This professor is very hard. She can be very mean and demanding. She expects amazing work and nothing less. If you ask for her help she'll make you feel 3 inches tall by ripping your work apart. She assigns 5 papers, 4 of which are 3-4 pages, one research paper which is 5-7 pages. I suggest you find a different professor.
she is a very opionated person and believes she is always right. no tests - just 5 papers. if you don't do it exactly how she wants, you get a bad grade. treats you like you are still in high school at times. i wouldn't recommend taking her unless you absoluty have to
WORST professor i've ever had. she is the snottiest person, extremely unhelpful, and claims that we have all been taught the wrong way to write and she is the only one who knows. constantly mentions how she knows about everything bc she was an attorney. get over yourself prof ard and realize that theres more to life than analyzing children's books
Feminist. Run for the hills
Like a baby.
The first day she walked in we all thought she was so cute and little but after a while you realize shes quite the bull dog. Ard is very picky about writing styles and is a very hard grader but i have to say I have learned more about writing papers in her class than i have my entire college career. I think shes a wonderful teacher.
She is pretty cool
No Comments
she makes you work and is pretty hard...but i feel that she really does work for the students and wants us to succeed...i am not an english person, but i feel like i have learned more in her class then the other years of my education combined...she's really nice and likes to joke around but still gets down to business...i say take her class
She made you earn your grade to say the least. NEver have i ever rewritten papers so many times and still managed only a b+. She is an impossible grader. I must say however, that i did learn a lot. If you're looking for a GPA boost, this is not the prof for you
She's ok...nicknamed professer H-ard...but she really isn't. If you pay attention in class, participate a little, and do the reading like she says you'll be fine. She gives questions and group discussions in class...IMPORTANT...most of the questions or topics could be used as a thesis. Have a thesis, you'll get at least a C, support it to get a A/B
once you figure out what she wants in her two page papers you'll do fine. decent amount of work but papers are only two pages each and one 5 page research one.
She really isnt as bad as everyone makes her sound. The things you read from the text are not very interesting but easy to comprehend. 5 2pg papers that are based on the readings. Once you figure out what she wants in her papers, not that hard to get an A. Must show up to class. No midterm or final but a 5-7pg research paper.
Dr. Ard is tough teacher, but she sincerely wants her students to learn and think outside the box. Once you figure out what she wants as far as papers go, she really isn't too difficult. Make sure to attend class, take notes and raise questions about the lectures. I had her for capstone (senior seminar) and I somehow managed to get an A.
I loved professor Ard. She's tough, but fair. Anyone on this board complaining about her should be ashamed. This is a sweet, kind person with a family and she was the best proff I've ever had. She really helped me through a lot this year, and listened to me about personal problems and worries I had in my life. Three cheers for Proff Ard!
even though i agree with the comment below, every time i had to write a paper for this woman i wanted to kill myself.
At first I hated Dr. Ard. However I have to say she is a decent teacher and cares a lot about her students. I got a B with a lot of work. Not an easy A by any means. MAKE SURE YOU PARTICIPATE IN CLASS, SEE TUTORS, AND OCCASIONALLY VISIT HER OFFICE HOURS IT WILL HELP YOUR GRADE TREMENDOUSLY
OK, i am in Victorian Lit && i have to say, i loved victorian lit until she taught it. she massacres the class with these incomprehensible meanings and justifications. i could probably teach the class myself. she pauses A LOT; like she forgot what is going on or doesn't know what else to say. So awful
Professor Ard comes off as being difficult and her essays are so strange and hard to understand. She does not give you a straight forward assignment she wants you to think outside the box. If you ask her for help she really will help you and even give you some good ideas to work from. Assigns boring reading but is willing to help you. Try to avoi
Dr. Ard is a horrible teacher. She is not very helpful. She grades very hard and gives long, boring readings. You absolutely cannot understand her hand writing and must go to tutors in order to do okay in the class. She is **** against guys and is anal about everything. Avoid taking!!!
I took this professor my first semester of college and had no idea what I was in for. She expects everyone to be this prize winning author and her grading is very hard. Academically ruined by college experience with her ridiculous readings and assignments. Definitely do not take if you're just trying to pass english and get it over with.
Dr. Ard can, at times, be a difficult professor to deal with. She is very rigid and tends to believe in just her knowledge and that no one else can make a meaningful interpretation of a piece. She has very high expectations for her essays. I would recommend her if you feel confident in your writing and don't mind criticism. But if not, try to avoi
The nastiest professor ever. she has absolutely no manners. she calls on random people in the class and if you don't agree with her she'll rip you apart in front of everyone. her grading is ridiculous and it's impossible to get an a on her papers. probably the worse professor i've had
Not an easy professor. Her assignments are challenging and require A LOT of thought. She's tough and can be intimidating but she's really helpful. If you want to do well she'll work with you. Don't take her if you're looking for an easy A. Take her if you want to learn and become a better writer.
As long as you participate in class and show effort you should be fine. Ard can be a little rough sometimes but she is very fair and as long as you work hard you will find that she is a sweet lady.
Professor Ard is a no-nonsense professor. She demands quality on every assignment, so if you are not a strong writer, I would not recommend you take her. However, if you are a strong writer and give your best effort on every paper, you will have no trouble in her class.
Absolutely love Dr. Ard! Her classes are highly interesting and interactive. Some say she is a tough grader on papers, but she honestly just expects you to know a bit about writing if you are going to be in a higher level literature class. Take her if you want a great literature experience!
Makes a basic class a bit harder than it has to be...but is honest in her criticism of your writing, which is refreshing if you know how to take such things. Loves her subject, knows it well and expects you to also. Stickler for promptness. Difficult to approach, but well-intentioned.
Professor Ard is a wonderful professor! She is really passionate about what she teaches, and it shows! Take her if you want an interesting literature class.
I was really intimidated by her at first bc of these comments, but she's actually a very sweet lady. sure, she's strict, but only to better your edu. i can honestly say i've become a better reader and writer after her class. take her if you genuinely want to become a better writer
Professor Ard's class is a lot of work, she expects the high-quality work from her students. If writing isn't your forte, i do not recommend her. 5 essays, one of which is in class & The readings that go with them are a bit lengthy and sometimes quite boring. She's strict with policies as well.
I like her as a person but not as a teacher. She is very stuck-up and intimidating; her comments are very confusing and not very helpful. The class is really easy but you do have to do things her way and no other way.
Love her! She is amazing and understanding and extremely helpful! Just participate in class and do the readings..she is amazing
She was extremely rude and told me that she "wasn't the professor for me." On top of that, she yelled at me for talking in class when our assignment was to discuss our papers with our peers and make in-class edits. She's a horrible professor know-it-all who did not help at all. The first paper I handed in she just scribbled ??? all over. AVOID!!!!!
I was initially intimidated by Professor Ard. Turns out she is extremely helpful and taught me how to write at a college level. Go to her office hours and make the corrections she gives you and you are pretty much guaranteed the A on each paper. If you want to learn how to write take ard!
She is an extremely harsh grader. She is rude and obnoxious. If you want to pass this class you need to go to her during office hours and get help. Takes attendance very seriously.
Professor Ard was a decent class to start my college career with. It was not too hard but not too easy and challenged me in reading and writing. There are 5 essays that you have to read over the course of the semester and then 5 papers that correspond to each paper, 4 that are about 3-4 pages and one 5-6 page research paper. Overall decent class.
I really enjoyed Ard's class! Although she may seem like a hard grader, all she wants in a paper is to see that you have a strong thesis, are able to back it up. And she was so helpful! She would look at drafts of our papers IN CLASS (not just in office hours) and give face-to-face advice on what to improve! She made me want to be a lit minor. :-)
Take Dr. Ard! There are 4 papers. She's very clear in her expectations & even has a lab the class before each paper is due to peer edit and get her feedback on your paper. If you ask her to read your paper and listen to her comments, you'll get an A. Learned a lot from her!
Dr. Ard is a very sweet lady. For Methods of Literary Study we had 4 papers. Three were 3-4 pages, and the research paper was 5-7. Before every paper we had peer editing labs in the library which were helpful. I always took my papers to her for feedback in office hours and she would tell me how to make it an A paper. Very helpful and kind. :)
Dr. Ard is so nice! There's 4 papers for the course but she gives you a few classes to peer edit and write in the lab. She's a generous grader. Check the syllabus for when to read the books because she doesn't tell you. She'll answer any questions you have and loves to hear your input in class discussions. Take her!
Definitely take her. Her class consists of five papers one of which is in class. She has peer review sessions in class and she even reads and gives you feedback on your first paper. She definitely gives great feedback on all your papers and she is always willing to help you understand a topic and will make sure you understand it.
This is actually a really easy class if you like to write: -She assigns 5 paper per semester (the longest being 6 pages) -She gives 1 or 2 classes beforehand to get it peer-reviewed -You have to pay for a $30 packet in the bookstore to get the essays she refers to.(Unfortunately, they are mandatory.) -One in class essay
Professor Ard definitely knows what she's talking about. She cares about what she's teaching and knows it well, making the feedback she gives extremely beneficial. She gets off topic sometimes and engages the class in various interesting discussions. She expects a lot, but it's worth it.
If every professor tried as hard as Dr. Ard, in helping their students become better students, we would have a better populous in our country !!! She challenges you which is why you are in college to begin with, this isn't high school anymore. So those who are badmouthing her are just bitter and not putting in the effort to succeed.
Class is based off of 5 essays from one reading material. Essays aren't that hard and Professor Ard gives amazing feedback. She can come off a little strict but she always has her students best interest
Do not take her class if you aren't a super strong writer! She basically told me I'm better off with an easier prof and that I lack too many basic writing skills when I only got As in AP English classes in high school. She is a very tough grader and is hard to talk to. Class consists of 5 essays (no final). I'm pushing through since it is a gen-ed.
My writing skills improved so much while taking this course. Prof. Ard can come off as abrupt at first but she just doesn't sugar coat her feedback. She wants you to become a better writer. If you are struggling she will help you during her office hours. Not an easy A but great learning experience.
Gives good feedback, has good lectures and is an intelligent, experienced woman. Despite her intelligence... she lacks human empathy, is a harsh grader and expects you to write an essay like you're in law school . So if a challenging/ impossible class is what you want, knock yourself out! :) It is an unrealistically difficult for a Gen Ed class!
Prof ard is a tough grader but is really helpful and honestly made me a better writer. as a business major i dont really care about creative writing that much but she made me stop and read over my work to really make it the best it could be
Prof Ard was a very tough grader. If you want a professor to make you feel like crap about everything you do than take the class. Her criticism would be fine if it was actually constructive. take another professor if you can because you will hate English after taking this class.
Dr. Ard is an amazing professor. Yeah she is a tough grader and gives a lot of criticism on papers but when I took her class I truly felt like I became a better writer. If youre looking for an easy A then this might not be the class for you but if you genuinely want to learn and improve your writing skills then take this class!
I wanted to give Professor Ard a chance since I know I'm not a lazy student and a relatively good writer, but she makes you feel awful from the second she reads the title of your paper. She gives a lot of feedback, but it is very difficult to make improvements since she rarely elaborated beyond "good", "bad", "vague", "awkward". She can do better.
I was surprised by the number of negative reviews. I really enjoyed Ard's class. She does seem scary and tough, but you can tell she genuinely cares about her students. You will definitely have to work for your grade, but we constantly had labs where she would read our drafts and tell us what we need to work on, which most professors won't do.
Dr. Ard is a great professor. The readings that she assigns are extremely good and she is actively involved with the writing process. Don't take her class if you want an easy "A."
Professor Ard is a very tough grader. When you first enter the class you're unsure of exactly what she wants, so it's more difficult to get a good grade. She is very harsh with her critics, but once you understand her style of writing she desires you are okay. Very passionate about the readings. 1st is boring but gets interesting throughout class
If you want an easy A do not take this class. You must read all of the essays and keep up with the assignments. If you do not participate, it will not only lower your grade but ruin your experience in the class. Despite what some may say, Dr. Ard is a great professor and is passionate about what she does. Btw, the last essay is the worst.
Dr. Ard was a very great teacher and I would highly recommend her for a Critical Reading and Writing professor. She is extremely knowledgable and cares for her students.
Dr. Ard is an amazing Professor I took her CRWT 102 this past fall 2019 and I would totally take it again. If you are having trouble with an assignment I suggest you go to her office hours, she will give you excellent feedback and from there you will know exactly what she wants.
She was definitely not my favorite in the beginning, I felt she was a tough grader and expected too much from us, but in the end, I realized that she is an amazing professor. Don't take her class if you skip a lot, but if you can make every class, it is definitely worth it. She gives great feedback on papers and makes what she wants clear.
She really diversifies the readings. Even though it's a writing course, you'll learn a lot of things from different topics. Cares and gives proper feedback to improve your writing. Participate and you'll learn a lot. If you get a chance, take her.
She was very harsh with grading papers. I took her class virtually so it wasn't very interesting. Talks throughout the whole class.
I loved Dr. Ares class! It was so easy we had 5 papers throughout the semester with only one being more than 4-5 pages. The readings are actually not too bad, kinda interesting. She wants you to improve and is genuinely nice. Definitely recommend her class!
I loved Dr. Ards class! The readings arent terrible but some may be a little long. She doesnt give work just to make you do it, she wants you to think and enjoy doing it! I really enjoyed her class, and it was only challenging when needed.
While the "tough grader" label is true, Dr. Ard was a solid choice for a professor. I took her for Author's Studies (Jane Austen). She's a huge fan of Austen, which makes the tone of classes more relaxed and discussion based. The papers are fairly short and straightforward. She gives a quiz after each book but she'll drop the lowest grade.
