She's a really hard professor and moves really quickly. She doesn't hand you what she is going to test over. Make sure you understand lab material. Luckily she does extra credit which really helps your grade.
Dr. Clark is very tough. Her lecture seems chaos at times, the tests are about impossible. No extra credit has been offered this semester. But if you have a chance to take her lab, Do it. On the lecture tests there are lab questions that she puts on there. She is very helpful in lab. So take her lab if you have to take her lecture
Dr. Clark is tough but fair. Attending lecture is a must. Stay on top of things. Very nice and extremely helpful if you have questions.
Besides the fact that you can download the lectures from IStream, Dr. Clark provides study guides for each chapter on the exam. If you answer the study guides using your notes, while listening to the lectures again (the guides follow the lecture notes) and commit the answers to memory, you WILL pass the course. I loved that class.
The info. didn't sink in with Clark. I took the class again at IUK. I had fun actually learning the material. Clark made this class stressful and frustrating. She made me feel stupid and didn't seem to care that half the people in the class were failing. Physiology is a fun class. It's unfortunate that she made it such a horrible experience for me.
Physiology is extremely challenging. The tests are very detailed and just blindly memorizing information will not get you by in this class. Dr Clark is an extremely knowledgeable and fair professor. She has study guides that correspond to the lecture and labs. There are also worksheets with preview question to the test.
She knows what she's talking about and you will learn the material. Her tests are tricky in wording, but she gives you a bonus 5 pts if you read the directions -- so read the directions!
Very Very Hard!
I thought she was easy to understand and explained things well. Her tests were tough, but fair. It is not an easy class, but if you are willing to study, you'll do well.
Awesome class with field trips! Also, she hated slackers which is a plus in my book.
Dr. Clark makes a really tough subject easy to understand. You have to keep on top of studying or you will not be successful, however she offers plenty of help outside of class including mentoring sessions. I learned so much from this class and everything we learned has proven beneficial in my nursing practice!
Human Physiology. Material is kind of boring, teacher doesn't do a lot to make it interesting. Mentoring available, but only one mentor is knowledgable of material.
This class was very difficult and you won't succeed unless you keep yourself motivated. Patricia is very knowledgeable but has somewhat of a dry lecture so staying alert and taking notes is key. I hardly touched the book. She provides outlines that cover what you need to know. I did well by taking detailed notes based on her outlines.
Dr. Clark is so nice! She wants her students to do well. Physio is the hardest class I've ever taken, but she was more than willing to help. Listen to i-stream over and over again. Make sure you really understand how everything works. It's much more than simple memorization. Talk to her about camping!
She is a great professor. Go to lecture and read your book to fill in the holes and you will do fine! I love patty!
I thought dr Clark was very helpful and did care about the students. Just do the questions she posts and you will be fine
She is a very helpful teacher and grades very fairly. Her problem set questions are a lot like the exam questions so make it a habit to do them. Overall one of the best teachers at IUPUI ever!
Don't take this class with Dr. Clark. Take it with Terracone, your GPA will thank and sanity will thank you in the end.
this is the only class, professor, and exam that actually made having ADD feel like a real disease and problem.
Very difficult class. Ran very differently than the other section. If you want to learn more take Clark, if you want a higher GPA to get into your program take the Saturday class!
Very poorly organized outlines. She can't admit if she is wrong, and she is unforgiving. She will cram large amounts of info down your throat in short periods of time. Don't take her class.
First class I've actually had a problem passing an exam. Dr. Clarks exams are very difficult, especially during the summer session(DO NOT TAKE IN SUMMER !). I enjoyed her lecture and learned a lot, or at least I THOUGHT I DID... Most people have a difficult time in this class.
I sadly have to agree with the negative responses. I have attended every lecture and taken notes on her outlines and completed every lab, I have studied more for this class then I have EVER studied for anything and I am doing terrible. Sadly even her mentors will tell you that they have taken the class multiple times...
She is very difficult esp compared to Dr. Yard, but she will help you if you ask. Sh does not give minuses so I should have gotten a B- but instead I got a B.
super duper tedious stuff, not for the fient of heart.
She is way tougher than Dr. Yard; and extremely boring to listen to. I just can't get enthused about her class. It is so boring and I liked physio before I enrolled in her class. The tests are close to impossible to pass and there are hardly any opportunities for extra credit (besides the problem sets). DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!!
This is probably one of the more difficult classes I have ever taken. I recommend re-listening to the lectures and focusing on her outlines. She lays out the material in a much more logical fashion than the book does. In fact I wish she would just write/use her own book/binder of notes. Also if you can get into her mentoring session it helps a lot.
I have never had to study so hard my entire life. Even with relistening to the lectures, going over outlines, and taking notes on my own notes, I still struggled. I ended up with a B in the class because she does not give minuses. She isn't as good as Yard or as interesting. She also didn't care too much when we could not hear her.
Physio is a difficult class but it's not THAT bad... Yes, there is a lot of material, but the exam questions pretty much come straight from the lecture notes. Professor Clark doesn't make the material super-interesting, but she is clear and straight-forward in her explanations and in what she expects from her students.
Horrible teacher. Had trouble staying awake in her class every day. Would not reccomend taking her.
Exams are ridiculously difficult. Listen to the lectures and study her outlines backwards, forwards, and upside down. One the exams, eliminate the wrong answers instead of figuring out which option is correct. Throughout the semester, I studied nothing but Physiology! This is how difficult this class is.
Very hard class, but made it through thanks to the mentoring sessions and relistening to the lectures online.
Very good teacher for the subject. Physiology is not a class that is easily learned, which is why most people did a horrible job in the class. But for the amount of information presented, she did a great job organizing the information. If you reach out to her and ask for help, she goes above and beyond to help a struggling student.
Ok, this is a hard class, but not impossible. Clark gives you an outline, use it. Her questions are in depth, you can't review the info the night before and pass. I struggled on all of the tests. I got by via my lab points and quiz points. She doesn't always curve, but she curved our class by about 5%. She is fair, so if you need help, she'll help.
This was a very hard class but probably my most favorite class ever taken. This class is not impossible but it does take over your life for 16 weeks if you want to do well in it.
Overall good professor! You have 80 easy pts. from top hat & problem sets. 4 total exams. Have to study a lot & study hard! I typically studied 1 or 2 nights before the exams and ended up getting a solid B in the class! She doesn't give + or -, just A,B,C,D,F. Would have gotten an A if I would have went to the mentor sessions, etc. Take the class!
This teacher is truly amazing! She took science, which I dread and made me regret my major of psychology. I love her, and she is truly caring. Puts her heart and soul into the class and her students. Students need to realize physio is a hard topic and cramming just won't cut it. She can't do anything about lazy students. Great class overall!
This class was awful. She crams all the info down your throat and if you ask for clarification she looks at you like you are dumb.Outlines have NO organization.if only Dr.Yard could teach this class Im sure everyone would want to go to lecture and actually learn.I would rather take it on a saturday with another professor then suffer through this
Pat Clark is about as interesting as a white wall and provides you with poorly typed outlines that are more confusing than they are helpful. I am currently receiving an A in the class, however, but my performance is in no way a reflection of her teaching skills. Study weeks before exams if you intend on doing well. You will miss Dr. Yard.
Dr. Clark was great. If I needed clarification, or further explanation, Dr. Clark was ALWAYS willing to help me understand. Students need to realize that physio is a hard class, and quite frankly, if you fail it's because you didn't put in effort. Physio isn't memorization, you've got to put in the effort to comprehend. Dr. Clark is AWESOME!
I love this teacher. Had Tarricone before, this prof much more laid back. Material the same, just better environment to learn it in. Read text before class you will be fine. Or listen on Echo later. She's great, very helpful and personable.
This class is extremely difficult no matter who teaches it. Prof. Clark gives you a chapter outline AND a study guide for each chp, which is very generous. You should expect to put in several hrs/wk studying when you get to this lvl bio class. People who complain about this professor apparently don't realize what college is.
She does not know how to present material in a way that is understandable for the students. I attended almost every single lecture but still found myself wondering why. Over half of the class FAILED the third exam.I would NEVER recommend this class to anyone. I wish Dr. Yard still taught physiology!! More students would at least pass then.
GREAT teacher. Took Tarricone before, dropped due to worst teacher I've ever had, and this teacher is awesome. The text she picked is really good. If you don't read before class, you'll be lost. Just read the book, listen to what she says and you will do fine. Test 3 is the hardest. Go to mentoring too.
Sometimes has an attitude and makes class so so so much more difficult than it should be. Honestly ridiculous.
WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD. Tests are nearly impossible. I have received an A in every college course, aside from one, and will not be getting close to that in this one. TERRIBLE
HORRIBLE results!! Before taking this class I had a 3.8 GPA I am a student who tries very hard, but this course is the hardest course I have ever taken. Clark is HORRIBLE she prides herself in making this class impossible to do well in. If you can take this class else where do that, because she is the WORST!
VERY HARD CLASS, but if you study non stop for this class you can earn an A. I spent around 20 hours a week re listening to lectures, reading the textbook, and going to mentoring. I memorized her outlines and that's how I earned an A in this course. This class will take up your life if you want a good grade.
Dr. Clark is willing to help if you have any questions. Listen to echo and fill out her outlines as you go. This class is easy as long as you understand the entire picture rather than memorizing every term.
Hard class, and she makes it more difficult than it should be with her unorganized outlines. If you want to get an A plan on studying many hours and weeks before the test.
Do not be intimidated by this course! The tests are very hard and she expects you to have an incredibly thorough understanding of the material BUT only 400 of the possible 750 points come from the tests; the last 350 are basically given to you for making an effort in the class. Stay on top of the material from day 1 and you'll be fine!
Very, very ambiguous questions when it comes to tests and quizzes. Thus, making it unclear to students which answer is the correct answer, even if you understand physiological processes. She wrote 1 question that was set up like so. Which group of terms BEST associate with each other. While none of them directly correlated, they were all fairly sim
She was an awful professor. Not very helpful and tests are nearly impossible.
Physiology is a tough course regardless with who you're taking it with. She did a great job simplifying the material. Read the book and outline before that lecture. The exams were difficult but not impossible. Go to mentoring. Draw stuff out. Anything you can to learn the material. Do the problem sets and mastering a&p for an easy 250755 points.
Dr. Clark is a good professor. The test are challenging which means you have to put in the time and work in order to pass them. If you go to her office hours she is really nice and she always answered and explained any questions I had. She gives a lot of cushion points therefore making the class easier to pass. The class is difficult but doable.
She has to be one of the hardest professors out there. Her tests are ridiculous. She should be teaching future doctors not a 200 level course. I've only met one person that has passed her class on their first try. Absolutely ridiculous. The more effort I put into this class, the lower my grade gets. I'd give her a 0 on easiness if it was allowed
She is incapable of teaching to those who don't already know. Her lectures are just her reading off her PowerPoint. That being said there is actually a lot of built in extra credit, I ended up with over a 100 in the class. If you study hard and long it will be fine.
THIS CLASS IS RIDICULUS. Her lectures can be helpful SOMETIMES, but most of the time if you haven't taken bio k101 andor 103 then you are pretty much screwed. Her exams are usually too detailed instead of making sure you understand the big picture. She isn't really direct with what you need to know for the exam. ALOT of people are failing..
DO NOT TAKE. She does not teach. Reads strictly from the power point. Covers general information and does not explain the processes and material. She tests over in depth information she does not teach. Be prepared to read the textbook and use Mastering AP material because you will be teaching yourself everything. May the odds be ever in your favor.
Incredibly challenging course. Prepare to teach yourself since her lectures only follow a vague powerpoint that is presented behind her. The tests seem to focus on finite details rather than a larger understanding of physiology which makes them very frustrating.
Dr. Clark knows her Physiology and is helpful when meeting with her. Physio. is tough regardless of where you take it. The tests are challenging, especially the 3rd one but it is not difficult to pass or even get a B in this class since you are practically given 200 points for hw, 60 for problem sets, and 60 for lab reports out of 765 possible
By far the most difficult class I have ever taken. Exams are poorly worded. I spent countless hours outside class studying by myself and in groups and still did not score as well as one should for the amount of time. I would say avoid her but you have no other option. There is a syllabus but she changes it based on her mood towards the class.
Worst class I have ever taken. Tests are written for students to fail. I have never studied for 3-4 hours per night different ways only to get a 60 on every single exam. Passed first time, but this class is NOT tuned for a 200 level class.
She is a very good teacher. Take the time and go to her office hours every chance you get, she will not fail you. I was suppose to get a B and she bumped me to an A for it. Just know this is a weeding out class. If you can't pass this class you should pick a new major. Take it from someone who is in their program, it only gets harder from here.
Be prepared to go to unhelpful lectures and spend hours reading and studying to fail every test.
I would NEVER recommend this class. I have taken several pre-professional science courses and this elective class is far tougher. The material itself isn't difficult, but grading is ridiculous. Topics discussed in lecture are irrelevant in terms of what is assigned for homework/tests/quizzes. Extremely short tempered. Lectures are very dry.
She goes fast and is unforgiving.
Im a junior in college, never gotten below an A- in any class and I am in med school (anyone in med school knows those are the hardest classes youll ever take in your life) except this one, this is by far the hardest class I have ever taken. everyone is failing. Material is sooooo understandable and easy, but for some reason everyone gets F on tests
To continue with me review below, she's so friendly and nice and is always so willing to do anything in her power to help, but every year around 60% of her lecture halls (300 people) fail. She ecommends about 40-50hrs studying per exam, and that's not a joke.. you still won't do well... and If you start studying just a week before, you're in troubl
Her tests are nothing like the handouts she give. Her lectures never relate to her tests but she say you don't need to know the details in the book. So basically you're on your own and you need to teach yourself. She's absolutely terrible.
Lectures go over information that is exponentially easier than the information on the tests so you're thrown into way harder material than you've ever seen before when taking the exams.
Incredibly tough and boring professor. Outlines make the material being discussed relatively easy to understand, but the tests are a completely different animal. Information on the outlines don't reflect the test questions at all. Easy to get a high C or low B in the course because homework and quizzes count for 50% of the grade and are very easy
I feel like people have preconceived opinions about her after they see these reviews. Yes, this is a very difficult course, but it wouldn't be any less difficult with another instructor. She will answer any questions you have and adds a lot of extra points to cushion your grade. I really enjoyed having Dr. Clark for this lecture.
Worst class I've ever taken. I would study for hours on end and still receive 30%s on classes along with the majority of the class, needless to say the majority of us will be in summer session. Her tests are unclear and basically nothing can prepare you. She doesn't curve either...
Dr. Clark's lectures were very clear and she also posted all her powerpoints on Canvas, which was really helpful come exam time. I wouldn't say the textbook is absolutely required, but really helpful as a supplement to the lectures. This class is fairly easy if you just show up and pay attention to lectures.
If I could have I would have given here 0 out of 0 for easiness, helpfulness and clarity. I would rather take 3 courses at Ivy Tech (Anatomy and Physio 1-3) then take her again. You'll study all night and day thinking you understand the material and leave with a grade that's lower than low, and there is no way to save yourself. Get ready to fail.
This class is challenging. It requires a more advanced level of understanding connections. You can't just read/listen. By going to the BEPKO learning center and meeting weekly with a success coach, they helped me recognize my learning styles and develop better habits and skills. Go there, tuition covers it.
Dr. Clark gets a bad reputation because she teaches a very difficult class with a lot of material. Her lectures are helpful, even though they are all recorded on Echo. I found that going to class was easier than forcing myself to listen to them online. Read all the chapters and use the Bepko mentors. While it is a hard course, it is not impossible!
I loved taking Physio with Dr. Clark. She is a very nice lady who is always willing to help her students and further explain things they are struggling with. I think she gets a bad rep because this class is difficult, you have to spend a lot of time on it because the concepts aren't easily grasped. However, she may be the best professor I've had.
Reads directly from slides, does not do a good job at keeping the class interesting. Is not at all clear. Not very understanding and does not care about the students. Rude. While the class is difficult, it's not impossible, but this class would be easier if she was not the one teaching it. 0/10 would not recommend.
Dr. Clark gets a bad reputation, but in all honesty it's just because the class itself is hard and you cannot do well just through memorization. She, however, is great and is always willing to give extra feedback when students ask. I stayed after lectures multiple times to ask her questions and she was great!
I wish there was another professor here that taught physiology! I can't focus during her lectures because they are so monotone. I'm glad they're recorded online so I can listen to them on my own. Overall, the classes' average exam score is usually a D and most students I've talked to have to retake it. Maybe I need smart friends.
I would not recommend taking this class to ANYONE. Pat Clark is a dry and boring professor and I never got a thing out of her lectures. If you are a visual kind of person, you're screwed for this class. Lab is totally irrelevant and the tests are HARD. I've never spoken to a person who enjoyed her class/ had anything nice to say about her.
soooooo boring ! also coughs so much in the echo mic that it hurts my ears.
Very time consuming, but if you put in a lot of effort you'll end up with good results. Definitely dont wait until the week before to start studying. The study questions she gives you are the most beneficial because that's pretty much everything that could be on the exam. Go to lecture, but also listen to the echos again for review. They help alot
Dr. Clark's lecture are not the most exciting, but she is a fantastic teacher one on one and is more than willing to help if you go to her outside of class. Make sure to watch the echos. if you need diagrams to draw things out use the book.
Dr. Clark is one of the finest professors I've ever had. Without a doubt the material is extremely difficult. But she is very willing to answer the questions of students and take time in lab or class to make sure you have a good understanding. If you want an easy class... don't take Physiology. If you want a great professor, I'd recommend her!
Dr. Clark has a tendency to just read from her powerpoints. She doesn't really highlight important points, & when she does they often don't even appear on the exams. Her exams are poorly written & seem like they are designed to confuse students. I relied on the book at the start of the semester. I got an A, but it was b/c I taught myself.
Dr. Clark's class is the hardest class I have ever taken, and it didn't need to be. The material given was difficult to understand. However, the way the material was presented to us was very difficult to learn. Her outlines were unorganized and vague, and she just read from them in her lectures. I basically had to teach myself the material.
The material in physio is not challenging, but the way Dr. Clark teaches it makes it so. Going from an A in anatomy, I found myself struggling to comprehend the material. Find a study buddy, you'll need it!
This class is horrible. She is constantly behind schedule and expects you to teach multiple chapters yourself even if you don't cover all the material before the exam. Only perk to the lecture is that she brings dogs that are cute. But it's a tease because you can't make any noises/pet them.
DONT DO IT. Only good part of this class is that sometimes she brings dogs that she is training. But you cant pet them so.... If I wasn't dead set on nursing I would never ever ever ever take this class.
I don't know why she has a bad rep. She is an excellent professor, the material is hard but not the worst thing in the world. She is boring, but it is not her job to be fun.
Going into this class I was skeptical about passing because Pat Clark has such a bad rep. Honestly I was surprised because her tests are pretty much everything she talks about in class. Studying a week before using Kultura saved my ass 100%. I actually enjoyed it much more than I thought. Honestly love the professor, believe it or not, she's good.
I just really love how the professor goes so much into detail about the topic she is trying to explain to us. No kidding, physiology is a very challenging course but the effort you put into this class lies on you and not the professor alone. Overall, I have a decent grade in the class as of now and just wanted to say she is not a bad teacher @ all
The class is HARD and you have to apply yourself but thats not her fault. Her teaching style is pretty boring but it could be worse. I wouldnt take it again unless I had to for my own sanity but if you go in prepared to spend out of class time working on it you should be fine. I also didnt use the book but Ive heard its helpful for some.
Her lectures are not helpful and she mumbles. she contradicts herself a lot and it makes it all more confusing. She gets kind of frustrated if you ask questions so you get scared to ask her anything. Her tests are so difficult because she says she will ask you 6 questions from one chapter that has like 200 things you need to memorize.
To all those saying she's horrible &you can't pet the dog. Get tf over it. You're here to learn about physiology. & she does NOT get frustrated by questions. I have asked plenty, it's when people accuse her of not teaching the material she has clearly covered, does she get upset. & if you thought you'd get an A w/o taking time outside, think again.
But I passed tho lol. First three exams were a breeze. Last two were more difficult. Lab acts as a buffer for grade as well as homework points and her learning catalytics. Would never take again though
This class is meant to teach us about how the human body works in fine detail. In order to pass the tests you have to understand the processes she talks about in class and connect them to real life situations. Will not pass with good grade if you just expect to regurgitate presented info.
Imagine my surprise when I got a 98 on the last test lol. Pat Clark is really not as bad as people make her out to be. You have to apply yourself as the class is FAR from an easy A. I had to spend many many boring hours outside of class to achieve this grade. Kaltura was my best friend, and savior bc she goes kinda fast in class. But you can do it!
Pat Clark wasn't a bad prof. A lot of the bad rep she gets is because physio ties in bio and chem as well. Many students haven't taken chem or bio classes and have to learn that too since they don't have the background. Having taken gen chem and bio before physio gave me a huge advantage. Ended with a 108%, its doable either way if you work hard.
Her tests are a real pain in the ass, and the material is pretty dense. Her power-points are abominable, and she does a terrible job lecturing. Makes the whole experience unpleasant and overly difficult. The same stuff could be taught far more simply, and the exam questions are intentionally difficult to interpret. Avoid this class.
Very thought-intensive course work, but she gives you what you need to succeed. Her grading is harsh, but fair. If you ask questions she'll be happy to help.
Slightly over HALF, yes you read it right, OVER HALF of the answers in quizzes, Mastering A&P, and even the tests are not remotely discussed at all in lecture, and are absolute nowhere to be found in the textbook. Unless you have eidetic memory to everything she says in lecture, you will NOT find the answers you are looking for.
If you have any interest in the area of ecology, or earth sciences, do not take this class. It will ruin your love and passion for the outdoor world. Skip the lab, you're likely never going to be good enough for these lab reports or in class projects. I would rather take Organic Chem with needles in my eyes than deal with these vague instructions.
Ive taken physics, organic, biochem with tough profs but have never put a negative rating on any prof until her. Vague instructions and takes off an extreme amount of points for very small errors. Do everything possible not to take this lab. She expects perfection & takes off points for things not specified on her rubric. Worst professor ever.
What we are not about to do is come for Patricia like that. Yes its a challenging class but she does provide a good amount of resources to learn from. I have taken physio before in the past with a prof who was trash and go a C. With Pat, I have an A. So its doable you just need to take the time to study and ASK QUESTIONS IF YOU DON'T GET SOMETHING.
Not gonna lie, its tough. Try to make it to class and hear things for the first time there and listen to the Kaltura recordings as soon as you can so you retain the lesson. She does offer extra points here and there. On top of this, if you can, form a study group and talk things out with others. Her study guides she guides didn't help though.
very hard class, Pat Clark lectures super fast so pay attention & watch kaltura after lecture. Minimal extra credit so don't bank on it
For those saying shes a horrible professor, YOU didnt try enough. I went into this class thinking I was going to fail, but listening to lectures, and going to mentoring really helped me to excel in this class. Of course you're not going to get an A if you put forth minimal effort. She literally does not put anything she hasnt discussed on the tests
Teaches an interesting subject on powerpoints that can be printed out and studied in a straight forward way. Replies quickly and notices achievement on tests. Lectures can be dry but there are points to be received throughout the lecture so you pay attention. Overall straight forward class. The labs however, do have some issues w connecting to lec.
Awful. For an intro to physio class she makes things way more confusing than nessessary. Our class missed one day due to weather cancelation and weve been off track ever since. Her power points are horrendous. At first there was clear grading criteria until about have way through the semester when she started making up quizzes, some w/ no warning.
Her lectures are extremely stale and boring. Also all the information you need cannot be found in the power-points. Sometimes she will even skip over several slides and say "you guys should know this" or "this should be review" even if its not. Sadly she is the only prof to take this with at IUPUI though. Only good thing is she has a cute dog.
Lectures are long and boring but with such dense information its really impossible to make it fun. Dr. Clark cares about the students and wants us to do well but also knows that its up to us to put in the necessary work to succeed. Class is HARD if you're not science minded but students are given a lot of opportunity for extra points to boost grade
You have to do the readings BEFORE the lecture or you won't understand what's going on. She will always answer any questions you have so don't be afraid to ask. You have to put forth a lot of effort, this is a hard class because of the amount of material you need to learn in a short amount of time.
Make sure you adapt your study habits to how she teaches. Her slideshows may be a bit confusing, so listen in lecture and take detailed notes over most of what she says over Kaltura. If you dedicate yourself to this class you will be fine! Her exams are all application based so make sure you know small details so it can be applied to all of her Q's
You will not get an A in the class if you do not apply yourself every single day. Forget about studying over the weekends, if you want an A, STUDY EVERY DAY AND STUDY FOR A WHILE. You will have to know every small detail so you can apply it to questions on her test. She makes you work for the A but when you get the grades you want, its all worth it
Horrible teacher I would not recommend her. She goes too in depth about a topic and the test arent even complex.
I won't bother getting into specifics about Dr. Clark because if you're taking the class it's because you have to. Let's just say what you've heard around campus is true. Advice to pass: don't bother with the textbook, she contradicts it frequently. Redo the homework before the test bc it's similar to exam questions. Rely on lecture/kaltura only.
Your experience with the class depends a lot on how much effort you put in. I found myself being mad at her at times without realizing that maybe it was I who wasn't putting in the work. If you care about doing well you should study beforehand. She states multiple times that the exams are application based ,so you have to actually know the material
Pat Clark doesn't set you up to succeed in her class. I studied for this class every single day, and her teaching did not set me up to succeed in her class. Study packets are useless for the tests and quizzes, and this class is basically a game to determine what information Pat Clark felt like writing on the test, not the most pertinent. Good luck.
Class isn't as hard as people make it out to be. Most test questions are from her PowerPoint slides. She also adds a huge curve at the end. I had a B that curved into an A. Study hard and it's fine
Don't need the textbook. Lectures are 10x more complex than her exams. Go to lecture for Learning Catalytics. If you do well on the first 4 exams, you don't need to worry about the 5th one. Listen to Kaltura recordings --but beware, she talks after the recording stops.
Clark doesnt set the students up to succeed. She offers study guides which do not help for the tests. Very very small curve. With little extra credit. Very strict hard professor.
Dr. Clark is a very intelligent woman. she will not hold your hand in this class, she will explain in detail every concept you will be tested on. there is a ton of homework which is great because it makes you understand the material. the difficulty of this course is to teach future healthcare workers what they NEED to know. do the H.W. and read
This is the hardest class I have taken at IUPUI. In order to be semi-successful, study hard and study for a while. You will need to know every detail from lecture to answer her exam questions. Her exams are a real pain in the butt! Lab is not bad and helps with a buffer.
Clarks Physio class was indeed challenging, especially for being a mother of a 2 yr old like myself but I worked my butt off and followed the syllabus to a T. It's possible! I re-listened to almost every kaltura lecture and messaged questions constantly. Use friends to quiz and really test your knowledge. I also did every study packet in detail!
Terrible grader wants exactly the right thing but does not play out what you need to do.
Her exams are not as detailed her lectures so if you understand the material then you should be fine. Her time management skills could be improved. We were behind a few chapters for most of the semester and were then speeding through material at the end. She does provide a lot of opportunities to get points though which helped tremendously.
She is a tough grader. Assigns a lot of busy work that isn't always relevant. She isn't the worst considering she offers a decent amount of points. Lab is super easy. Her lecture is tough.
Her attitude makes class boring and I hated this class. You basically have to rely on your mentors to understand things.
Clark is overall a nice woman, but she still hasn't caught on to the fact that a majority of students don't pass her class because she's not good at teaching material. She teaches as if she is talking to a class that has taken a physio course before and are fresh out of chem. I'm in her class now, and I'm telling you I WISH I took it at Ivy Tech!
Clark is the worst teacher I've ever had. Most of my classmates dislike her as well. She gives an insane amount of homework and assignments per week outside of class, not even including all of the work for lab. She doesn't explain things in a way that you can understand. If you can get a different professor, DO IT! Absolute least favorite class.
She is an okay teacher. I wont sit here and bash her for her teaching skills. I just think she teaches as if we should already have a knowledge of physio. We obviously havent taken a physio class before. also her powerpoints suck and if you dont watch the kalturas or go to class ur screwed. ok have fun n good luck yall
Not recommended.
listen here, ive done everything for this class. notes, kaltura, reading... nothing works. good luck passing her exams. ive failed every single one of them and have studied for this class probably over 40 hours a week
Pat Clark is a terrible teacher and has even admitted to not caring about her students or their situations. I would never take her class again. Her powerpoints are the only help she offers and they are complete trash. She leaves blanks so you have to figure out the answers yourself, keep in mind THESE ARE THE NOTES, NOT HOMEWORK. She is awful.
PAT CLARK IS A TERRIBLE PROFESSOR!!! It's time for her to hit retirement and for the man Dr. Yard to take over. Going from Dr. Yard to having Dr. Clark was a complete 180. IUPUI needs to find someone else that knows how to actually TEACH to teach physiology.
Overall, Dr. Clark is a very intelligent professor. It is unfortunate that she lacks compassion as that can aid a student's success greatly. The material itself is not super difficult but being able to find the time to retain it is. You will likely need to put several hours outside of class to achieve your goals in this class. Work hard! Study alot
Pat Clark is a great professor and wants to help her students succeed. Yes, she is tough, but so is the class. It is a lot of material she must cover in a short amount of time and I think she does a great job. Ask questions and participate! She remembers those who do and you will receive a better grade for it.
This class is very challenging, be ready to work hard. Your book is a good resource but it is not required. The exams are all about problem solving so know your information well. Be sure to participate in class or she will get mad and not even finish what she is talking about.
Professor Clark is a good professor. She gets a bad rep, but dont believe the hype. Show up ready to learn and participate; you will be fine. There are a lot of quizzes and HW assignments, but theyre designed to help you (especially your grade). OVER STUDY for exams and you wont regret it. You have to put time into this class so be prepared.
I did not enjoy this class at all. She likes to ask trick questions during her exams and some way too specific. She has way too much information being passed and way too much extra work. I slacked in all my other classes just to pass this class. I felt like i was supposed to take another class before this one, as if i was behind since day one.
Pat Clark is not that bad of a professor. The exams are tough and lectues kind of blow. However, the amount of assignments that we do in the class are ways to maintain your grade. As long as you put in the effort to complete the work that you have to do in this class, then you should be fine.
I have taken multiple physiology courses prior to this one, in which I excelled in. Clark's class was terrible. Easiest way to put it. Don't even bother reading the book-she just goes against it. Listen to her kalturas, but even then, she changes the wording of material during the test to throw you off/confuse you. Good luck.
Clark is the absolute worst teacher Ive ever had. The only reason I got almost an A was before of the mentors and tutors outside of class. She completely ruined my confidence and made me feel stupid despite me excelling in every other class. Clark has affected my test taking skills a semester later because I no longer feel confident in myself.
not easy to get a hold of if taking her class online. shes not a kind woman at all. avoid taking this class with her. she almost too smart for her own good & finds it frustrating when you dont understand things on the same level as her. she wrote the textbook she requires for the class.
Prof Clark is very disrespectful and its very hard to get ahold of her. She wrote the text book and just expects you to know things, even if she didnt lecture on it. Try to take this course with someone else. I honestly dont know how she is still aloud to teach this.
Professor Clark has been very hard to approach when trying to ask questions. She answers in a way that she thinks that you should already know the information and doesn't clearly help you with answering questions. Grades are submitted a month after you have turned them in and she is not easily communicative with emails. Her office hours are TBA.
Her class was straight up difficult. Had so many lectures to watch and take notes over it was insane. We had exams every two weeks over five to seven chapters. This class stressed me out to the core. Good luck.
Easily the worst class I have ever taken. I took physiology in high school (where I got an A), and only got above a 70 once. I watched her kalturas extensively, but on her tests, she tries to trick you. Her tests are extremely difficult, and don't bother reading the book-she goes completely against it. good luck.
She flies through the lecture, and depending on her mood, it seems like she gets annoyed when you ask questions. After coming from Dr. Yards class to this one, it's rough. She doesn't really explain anything that well and kind of just expects you to be on the same page as her. Go to mentoring.
Professor Clark is not good at teaching the actual material, she just lectures at you. I understand the information is hard to learn but I will spend 9 hours a day 6 days a week studying for this class and taking notes and still fail the exams. If you don't have to take her, DONT DO IT.
Worst professor I have ever had. Her tests are extremely difficult and full of choose the best answer questions. Lectures are long and complex and do not help with the material you see on exams. She is also rude to students, never answers emails, and refuses to help her students. The literal worst.
Clark gets a bad rep; I had her for lab too and she was helpful! There are 3 exams worth 50% of your grade and how you study matters. DO ALL THE STUDY PACKET QUESTIONS! Go to lecture/watch Kaltura, read the book, and attend mentoring. OVERSTUDY FOR THE EXAMS! There's lots of homework like A&P to boost your grade and we had 20 points extra credit!
Paper heavy but keep to rubric and put in the time and you'll be fine! Really fun class!
So hard and no real help offered
Take this class somewhere else if you can it's not worth dropping your GPA for the effort you'll put in
Clark gets a bad rep because she is a bad professor. Physio is already difficult material, but she makes it impossible. Only cushioning I had was HW, quizzes, & lab. I didn't get above a C- on any of the exams and I aced anatomy. She acts like you already know the material and doesn't help you understand it. Take this with another prof if you can.
I totally get that coming from Prof. Yard, Dr. Clrack is way stricter, but people need to understand that they need to work for their grades and not start studying a few days before the exam to do well. Watch all the lectures as many times as you need to, memorize powerpoints, and start studying like 10 days in advance. You'll be fine.
Dr. Clark gets a bad rep. She is not a bad professor and if you do your work and start studying early you should be able to do fine in the class. People need to understand that it is a hard class. She is really nice and will work with you if you need help. For the people complaining about it being 13 weeks, blame it on the class before for cheating
Phisio is a very hard class and professor Clark bases her grades off of mini assignments, quizzes and test scores. The tests are VERY HARD!
clark isn't a bad person, but her teaching is downright awful. i am not naturally smart, i studied for my grade. everyone else has already complained so here are some tips, pay attention to lecture and go through the PowerPoints 100 times even in your sleep. go to mentoring and don't give up! its a weed out class unfortunately, but push through
If you are looking to take eco lab DO NOT SIGN UP FOR IT. it is not a required class, and you will regret it. This 2 credit hour class can be easily substituted with any other biology course, as long as you already met the 3labs requirement. You're better off taking microbiology or immunology lab. She is not clear, will not answer your questions.
Do not take it, it's not required to take this lab. Take it with anybody else, anywhere else. Even if you like ecology then you're going to hate this class
Clark as a person isnt terrible, her teaching style is a little harsh though. Keep up on A&P and your quizzes, they will help your grade a lot. The study packets are a little useless & very time consuming, & the lec part of the exams never really match up with the study guides or tentative exam breakdown mentoring is the best way to go
Professor Clark grades your lab reports and short answers on the exams based on her own opinion. She favors the overachievers and anyone else is lucky to get a B.
Before the midterm, she made me feel like I was not going to pass the class. She takes FOREVER to grade the lab reports and there was not good guidance on what she wanted. However, she is very generous if you truly tried your best (extra credit, etc). She is hard to get in contact with but don't give up. Keep walking by her office and don't be shy!
Professor Clark is a very nice and genuine person however I believe that the exams are completely unfair. You will find pathophysiology questions and more than one right answer in the exams. You might study countless hours just to get a 60 on an exam. Do all the homework! Hope for the best and good luck!
I'm genuinely surprised by the number of bad reviews that Dr. Clark has received. Yes the class is difficult. It's lecture heavy, and there is a lot of material that is covered quickly. However, Dr. Clark is very knowledgeable, and her class is well organized. I thought the exams were hard, yet still fair. Take detailed notes over the powerpoints!
GOOD LUCK, she doesn't curve like yard. She doesn't throw out any questions. Exam averages were 50-60, and she gave us extra credit points that brought us up 2%!!!!!
This is a hard class, but I thought Dr. Clark's lectures were very well organized and easy to follow. She does go fast since there is a lot of material to cover. WATCH KALTURA and take notes over each powerpoint. Her exams may seem like there are multiple correct responses, but the key is to find which answer is 100% correct without a doubt.
Definitely a tough class, but as long as you put your mind and study for the class you should be good. That's how things in life are generally, if you don't put effort into anything you do then you won't get the results that you want, it's the same with this class.
Dr. Clark is a strong professor whose lectures are well-structured and easy to follow. The exams can be hard, so make sure you create good study habits to help succeed in the class. I recommend taking notes during class or outside of class by watching the lectures via Kaltura. I also encourage future students to go to mentoring and attend lab.
This class is split into 2 both lecture and lab. There was 6 lecture exam worth 100 points each! Know everything front and back because Dr. Clark will talk about something for 20 minutes in class and it wouldn't be on the exam, you go in not knowing what to expect every time. When taking this class think about physiology EVERY second of the day.
Did not go to a single lecture and wound up with A. Heard lectures were way to complicated/confusing. Lab attendance mandatory. If you choose my path, start studying at least 4 days before a test with her PowerPoints, exam jams, quizzes, and Quizlet. Exams are HARD and ask about specific concepts/questions so study early.
Try to stay ahead the best you can. Use youtube! She asks very specific questions and the test are confusing. She purposely tries to confuse you during tests. Lab attendance is mandatory. She does curve tests and curves the class at the end of the semester. The lab instructors will help you learn lecture material the best they can. Good luck!
honestly watching the lectures is your best bet and reading and writing powepoint slides. make sure you do super good in lab to even out your grade in the end. i did terrible in lecture just try to get at least a 60 or above on the exams and lab TA are very nice and generous just get really good lab quiz grades they count more than the actual lab.
Do a little bit better at teaching
Did not enjoy the class at all! She's a tough grader too especially over small things. Takes forever to get lap reports graded and she is fussy with lab reports even if you did exactly what she asked for. I worked really hard in this class which wasn't good enough for her! There's no textbook. The exams are some multiple choice and short answers.
Dr. Clark is very knowledgeable about the subject matter, however, she is not good at articulating it well. She never tells you the grading criteria and can be very cryptic. She makes all of your lab reports a group project and doesn't give you any information on assignments until you are doing them. She makes you buy software that you don't need.
This class is meant to be hard as it is an entry level course. The lab helps your grade significantly as well as the quizzes. The exam averages are all around 50% the entire semester and the exams are harder than you think. There are extra mentoring and tutoring for outside of class, but be willing to spend a lot of time understanding the material.
Professor Clark is an amazing professor. I would highly recommend her as a professor. Physiology is overall a difficult class. She has a lot of assignments, but if you actually participate it will help you. Be prepared to take a lot of time out for this course.
Such a nice person but I can't deal with having to be a student in her class. Physio is hard enough but her teaching style will drag you through mud. If you take this class, it is all up to you. If you don't put in effort, you will 100% fail. If you do put in effort, you will probably still barely pass. I now have a deep hatred for this subject.
Her powerpoints are a reflection of what will be on the exams but it's hard to even understand the powerpoint when it is compacted with tons of material. Everyone was getting 40-60's on the exams. The textbook is a little bit useful, but honestly istg none of it was on the exams. You gotta watch the kalturas like 3x to even understand what she says.
good luck if physiology is required for your major because this is the only teacher for it :) she sucks and lecture is so boring i'm writing this while she speaks right now
While Prof. Clark clearly is very knowledgeable on the subject, I found her lectures to be extremely confusing and hard to follow. The TopHat questions during lecture were good questions but she didn't give enough time for them so they are hard to get right. Lotssss of TopHat homework but it is useful. This course felt unreasonably difficult.
I wish IUPUI would offer a different proff that actually breaks physio down into a more simpler form especially since physio is already a difficult subject. Quizzes are online and and nothing like notes so they are difficult. Lab is very easy. Exams are difficult and you never know what to expect. A bunch of hw that doesn't help your grade at all.
This class is extremely hard. The averages on exams are very low. You're grade is basically determined on how well you do on lecture exams. Lab is only worth 20%. Hw assigments, online quizzes etc are not helpful towards increasing your grade. Don't take physio at iupui, take it at ivy tech.
I took the class during Summer and it was very difficult, but she provides extra credit (you need to do it) that will raise your grade by 2.5% of your final grade. The grading is confusing but she gives a lot of slack with homework and quizzes. The class is still gonna be hard so you have to study
Dr. Clark is a tough professor, but she knows her stuff. You must be willing to study hard and think outside of the box for lecture exams. Best way to succeed in this class is to take advantage of all points outside of lecture exams-- its about 50% exams and 50% other material. Make sure you implement good study habits from the start!
Dr. Clark is very straightforward and knowledgable. The syllabus makes it clear what is expected of you, so if you do the work and manage your time well you will do good in this class. If you don't understand something, don't hesitate to reach out to Dr. Clark for help. This is a hard class, but it is doable with hard work and good time management.
Dr. Clark is genuinely the worst professor I have ever had. My GPA was 3.8 before taking her class, and her class alone dropped it to a 3.4. The lecture slides make 0 sense, and when she asks questions and no one answers she just moves on. She purposefully tries to trick you on exams; our class average was NEVER above 65%. TAKE THIS AT IVY TECH!!
Can confidently say one of the worst biology labs that I have taken at IUPUI. There are numerous field trips that are required and the professor gives no time for you to get to the location. Her exam was more difficult than the lecture exam and her lectures are brutally boring to sit through. Would recommend to never take her class again.
Terrible teacher. I
Honestly the worst professor I've ever had. Purposefully tries to trick you on exams which makes no sense because the material is already hard enough. Never clear about what will be on exams and you could spend hours studying just to still fail. Good luck because she's the only professor that teaches physio.
Her lectures were long and outdrawn, she talks very slow and takes long pauses. Attending lecture is not mandatory, but there are in class questions that are for points(so go to lecture). Lab is very helpful in getting points to boost your grade and learning the material(GO TO LAB). The exams aren't confusing, but there's lots of material on them.
I feel so bad for you if you have to take Physiology with her. The tests are worded like riddles, as if physio wasn't hard enough. The lectures are super confusing and she's very muffled on the mic. No matter what you do, how much you study, you'll never get the grade you really want. She never curves either! :D
IUPUI needs to seriously hire a new professor for physio. lab portion is easy. lecture is very difficult. her notes for the material are not good at all. the notes doesn't explain anything... and having 6 exams for this class is VERY stressful. her teaching isn't good at all.
Horrible. lab is easy. her lectures are a waste of time and you're better off teaching the material to yourself. she will go on about the same topic FOREVER causing the class to become behind then it never gets tested on the exam. very disorganized too.and she's on probation too from the school due to the amount of people who have failed the course
This class was very difficult and time consuming. You have to spend hours on her class on studying to even get a chance at passing her class. Lab portion was easy. Her lectures were terrible and all over the place. She went over them very quickly which made it hard to keep up. You basically have to teach yourself. Do not recommend!!
You should definitely take this class with Dr. Clark if you want your mental health to plummet in the span of just a few months. Exams every 2 weeks over 300 ppt slides each, class average on the past few exams has been low-mid 60s (with no curve), and she WILL assign you 75-100 homework questions and textbook readings due right after the exam.
Couldn't Ask for a better professor!
She is very accessible outside of class if you want to meet with her to discuss your exams, however, it seems like the content taught in lecture doesn't align very well with the exams given. There is so much content given at once, it is hard to actually understand everything. She brings in service dogs that are entertaining to watch during lectures
My mother, a doctor, told me I would love this class since I enjoy the "lore." of things. Oh.. how wrong she was. I should have heeded the warnings that told me to take this at Ivy Tech. Relatively simple material is presented in a way that makes it difficult to understand. She's very smart, but she should not be a teacher.
Really good overview of the entire body. My parents who earned MDs are very glad I took this class with this professor. Because this class is also for nurse majors, there are millions of diagrams to better understand different concepts. People who failed this class simply didnt open lecture notes. Reading is assigned but answers can be found online
She was not a good teacher, she goes over everything on her PowerPoints as if it is all on the exam. She does not round test grades; extra credit helps, but it is added to your test scores not your overall grade. Attendance is not mandatory, but she does in lecture questions using top hat which counts towards your grade.
Tough but rewarding class with Prof. Clark. Lots of content, but worth engaging with the material. Unstuck ai was a lifesaver for exam prep alongside the textbook. Manageable if you stay on top of it.
She over complicates and is not a good instructor. I had to teach myself the majority of the time
