Like to do lots of Essay's take this class on American Indians, want to get your papers back with all kinds of corrections take her.Tough on grading, but I will say she is enthused about what she teaches. A rule Monger,no breaks given here. A New teacher
Great class, great professor, assignments are hard but you feel you learn something everyday.
3 books, they are cheap. Must read then though. 1 paper on history, and a few in class essays. Attentance counts, and final is not cumulative. Easy in my opinon, take notes and study, if you dont do well on matching/fill in then you need to form a study group.
Very good teacher. Speaks clearly and articulately . Easy A if you attend all classes and do all readings. Understanding the concepts presented in this class is not going to be a problem because she thoroughly explains everything. I enjoyed this class very much.
I loved this class. Even though she's an excellent teacher, she assigns far too much during a test period -- too much reading, too many subject matters. Tests are primarily essay and if you don't know a lot of details you won't do well. Very picky grader.
good speaker enjoyed all her lectures. I learned a lot,but most of it wasn't on tests. Her tests are all essay some t/f and fill ins.She has no quiz to help the tests. Her grading is very strict, picky even spelling mattered for one of the papers in class. The tests need a lot of details in an essay.
This class required a lot of work. I didn't particularly enjoy the group project at the end. The tests are difficult but doable if you go to class, take notes and do the reading. This teacher's lectures are worth taking the class. This class makes you more socially aware of the economic and social inequities of the past and present.
She makes the class very interesting! the whole class gets into discussions, there is a lot of group work but if your happy by yourself she is ok with it. Class participation is big! I just wish she taught more classes.
I loved it when this teacher lectured because she tried to make everything interesting and it was. She's not one of those teachers that lectures for three hours straight. We had class discussions and debates. She definately loves what she teaches . There was only one internet review and the final is not cumulative. Study and do your reading.

I LOVE THIS TEACHER! her lectures are very interesting; its more like being told a story. her tests are pretty straight forward, she asks about specific names and places (you could study right before the test and do fine -- as long as you took the notes). im going to try and take another class with her!!
This class was so interesting and she didnt make her lectures boring at all. She always got the class in a discussion so you dont just sit there and listen to her the whole class period. Definately reccommended for summer classes, her class is easy. Her essay questions are basically on the main ideas. Love her!!she always says hi to me on campus
great and easy too!
easy and fun class. be sure to take notes and you can't go wrong. best teacher ive had at mp so far!
The best history teacher ever!! Incredibly interesting lectures and the tests are pretty much directly from the lectures, only a little from the reading. I can't wait to take a class with her again
She is a great teacher and person. I would recommend her class to anyone. She is a great lecturer and even though it might be a boring subject for some she makes it very intresting and teaches you something you never knew before. You don't memorize any dates or facts but you look deeper into why things happened.
OK, I'm only part way thru this class...WHAT A DOLL!! Her lectures are very interesting, lots of expression and knowledge, true interest, still likes teaching and students. I think she's may fav at Moorpark so far. Very genuine, look fwd to going to class. May change my tune after first exam, but I doubt it. Highly recommended!!!!!!
One of the best teachers at moorpark. she is very interesting, she makes hist entertaining (like she is telling you a story) very fair and helpful. would recommend her to anyone
Okay, she is good at telling stories and can definately keep your interest. Her tests on the other hand can be tricky, I haven't seen one person get an A on one of her tests.
omg she is such a awesome lady...she helped me out so much...and she makes the class interesting and totally enjoyable...the tests arent too hard as long as you study the material....i would totally recommend this teacher!!! i want to take another class with her.
WOW!!!! best teacher i have ever had in my life, cares about the students and makes class worth going to....i have never liked history until i took her class!!!! she is just such an amazing person and you would be lucky to meet someone like her! i respect her so much and just hope there are more teachers like her out there!!!!!! DEFINATLY TAKE HER!
she was nice i got a B in the class and i did not own the book take her she is nice
Class was very interesting, she makes it feel like you are in middle school again, which is nice. Pretty easy if you go to class and listen to lectures.
Really good teacher. SHe makes the class fun and explains things well. You dont have to remember dates. SHe likes to have essays, but they are really broad and easy. I am not a history person but I even enjoyed the class and did well. YOu do need to read sometimes and the tests can be a little difficult but even with that it's easy to do well.
Great teacher, interested in the subject she teaches, very nice, very willing to help. Theres a good amount of reading, but no outside written assignments. Class is lecture based, but she gives interesting facts that aren't written in the book, and greatly elaborates on events that are. NO dates to memorize! Highly recommended.
This class is very interesting and Patty does a great job laying out all the information. She makes sure to tell you to look certain people up in the book if she doesn't get to them in class. Her tests require short essays (actual essays, 5 paragraphs w/ good support), matching, true/false, and sequence. She also offers extra credit if you need it.
Colman is the only history teacher to ever get me interested in u.s history.. her lectures are interesting, and lots of group work not a lot of hw. tests are a little hard though. but I would deffinitly take her again
Great teacher! She makes history about as fun as it can get. She know what she is talking about and really enjoys teaching. Very nice and understanding. I would take another class from her.
patty is very nice! she really knows a lot about history. her tests are hard and has no outside homework which suks because if you get low scores on tests your out of luck, because she really doesn't help you out any other way. she only had one ec opportunity which sucked. i really thought she would n given me a c because of how much i stayed after
great teacher. interesting class always willing to help students out. Tests are hard, quizzes are easy. no homework
Nothing against her, she is good at teaching the material. But, her grading is extremely difficult, i has to bust my ass so hard just to get a low B. Lectures are interesting you just have to take alot of notes. The tests and quizes are pretty tough, alot of the questions are questions that she never covered during class which kinda sucks. Very
She is a great professor. You pull a lot out of the class lectures with her. She is liberal towards the past, but not enough to change the true history of the course. Tests are pretty hard if your not good at writing or haven't writen a lot of in class papers before. She also uses primary accounts from the past and is cool cause its not as dry.
Great teacher, teaches the material in a very effective manner. Got a B. didnt work hard at all. tests are kinda hard, required to write a lot. MUST READ! and go to class
Awesome teacher! definately one of my favorites. She knows her material very well and and is passionate about her subject. I would recomend her to anyone, very easy to get along with and a very nice person over all. Very prompt and seldom misses class. If you have to choose between teachersm Mrs.Colman is the one to go with.
summer classes are tough, espeacially when trying to cover thousands of years of the begining civilizations in 4 weeks. Patty made me want to come to her class with her impassioned lectures, interesting backstories to historical figures, and updated information newer than the text book can keep up with. Can't wait to take a class with her again.
She made the class really interesting. History can be really dry and boring, but the way she taught made the class fly by. She tells stories and doesn't just read from a power point. You can tell that she really enjoys History- it comes out in her work.
Made history somewhat interesting, tests are multiple choice with an essay tossed in. One of the few teachers you can write a paper that disagrees with her views and still get a decent grade.
GREAT TEACHER. she made class fun and interesting. she is very organized which makes studying easy.tests are pretty hard though.overall she is a good teacher and i highly recommend her
I love this teacher. She really enjoys history. I suggest you read all the hw in the text if you want to do well. Also, the quiz and tests are cool if you study all the material that seems relevant. As far as essays go: go above and beyond don't just summarize the cds. :)
she is a great teacher. Makes history really fun. she loves what she her job and you can tell. no dates to remember for tests of quizess. You do have a lot of reading, but as long as you stay on top of the reading you wil do good.
She talks to you like you are five years old. Easy class, but she assumes everyone is an idiot who doesn't know s*** about history. Be prepared for questions like "Has anyone heard of the Great Wall of China?" or "Who can tell me where Rome is located?"
she's really sweet and she teaches really good
Patty Colman is awesome! My favorite Professor so far at Moorpark. Not an easy A, but an easy B. She's so passionate and interesting. I really enjoyed studying China with her, she made it intense haha! I kind of used the text.
Well what can i say. This class is crazy. Its a simple class when you look at it as a whole but it comes down to the reading. If you read the material you will do fine. BUT, I must warn you she is a hardcore feminist and you will know why when you take her class. Its all about "women are great and nobody else knows but me"
Mrs. Coleman is really serious about her teaching. She rarely seems just relaxed and genuine. Her class is easy only if you keep up with the reading. If you miss a class you're behind. tests are from the reading and lecture. Few response papers that include discussion points. Just pay attention, take good notes and go to class.
although i got a C, it was only because i didn't do the reading and therefore didn't do good on the quizzes. she was very clear on the requirements and will help you if you need it. actually made the class interesting, and i'm taking m20b next semester. unfortunately she's not teaching it :[
Patty is one of those rare teachers you come across that actually cares about her students and what she teaches. I've taken her for several courses and I've done well in all.You have to keep up with the reading and attend classes. Her lectures are additions to the book, so dont think you can just read and not go. A+teacher. Take her!
I tried so hard in this class and still got a B!! Gah!! it is simple overall when you break it down but just when you think you know what she wants she sticks you and your grade suffers. it is very condensed and fast pace. Low point total for the whole course. Don't say anything bad about women!!
LOOOOVE COLMAN'S CLASS'S! she is a wonderful teacher that really cares about her students and the subject she is teaching. Her lectures are very interesting, she tells stories instead of just talking. She's very enthusiastic and it makes you WANT to pay attention. Tests are pretty easy if you study..normal. totalllly recommend Patty Colman!!!!!!
Patricia Colman is a very good teacher and it was a pleasure being in her class. I learned a lot about ancient history that I never knew and I found the class to be very engaging as well. It consists of class discussions, tests, and a research paper. I worked preety hard and will get either a B or A. Just make sure to study and take notes in class!

She is great! I learned a lot from her and she makes History interesting! Exams are easy if you are well prepared(multiple choice and essay). Extra Credit is given, but not much and. Overall, she is a nice and fair teacher who knows what she is talking about. I would take another class with her!!!
so great! such a sweet person, funny too. she really knows her stuff, and has so many interesting stories and perspectives that she teaches with. i learned a lot of different things about us hist, i will miss her!
Great Professor! If you need this class I highly recommend her class. Just show up, review your notes and the chapters for tests, participate in the few discussions and you will get an A in her class. She is fun, fresh and helpful...what more can you ask for.
Seriously the best teacher I have ever had. I had pretty much zero interest in ancient history before I took this class and was only taking it to fulfill a requirement. However, Patricia Colman is such an excellent teacher that I actually found myself excited to go to class. Easy A if you study. Taking another class with her in fall!
Patty Coleman is an awesome teacher. I have taken two of her history classes. She really describes the subjects well. She has a good sense of humor?and she is a Laker fan. What else can you ask for? Really cool professor. Just make sure you are at class the days she assigns homework (which is not often) because she does not except any late work, an
To begin, Patty is an awesome instructor. She truly knows how to engage her students and to convey the course material well. The only component of the course with which I was disappointed revolves around the manner utilized to observe/ensure discussion participation--marking when one speaks. In spite of my personal disfavor, the course was great.
BEST TEACHER!!! attend class and take notes during lecture and you will have no problem. she tells you what the essay ?'s will be on the exams and tells you what to study for quizs and exams. clear and helpful. loves her topic. very interesting. favorite teacher
I hate history and have never received anything better than a C. I've never had a Professor so passionate about what they teach!! Mrs. Colman is SO incredible, I am actually INSPIRED to go to class, I wanna know more. She makes history seem like an elective or an art. Take her class..you'll be surprised too! How refreshing!
great teacher as long as you do the readings you will ace the class. just make sure you dont get behind or you will get lost
As long as you study you will do well. She is very nice and very helpful.
She's super nice, almost TOO nice that it gets annoying. But she's a good teacher, knows what she's talking about, just make sure you really study a lot for her midterms because they're pretty tough. The only bad thing I have to say about her is her class made me feel like I was in high school again, it did not feel like a college course at all.
Great class! Teacher expected much from us, and class was demanding in terms of our need to master the material and analyze it in assignments. One could tell Prof. was passionate about material and our properly understanding it. MT, finals were closed-book, closed-note. Prof. more than willing to offer assistance and help, prompt grading. 5/5 stars
Took her online History M20A. The class was pretty easy but there was a lot of work, 35 plus terms each week which you have to make up your self, and a 500 word essay as well. As far as getting in touch via email she's not the best. overall really good class.
Her world history class made me want to travel everywhere and I learned more from her than any other professor. She was sweet and always helpful, expects you to work hard but class was always interesting. Take this class! Loved it!
I took this professor online intertnet class, This a little bit modertly challenging class. All asignments are to be submitted in D2L within a week from monday to 11:59 sunday; also there are discusions she post for everyone to reply back for each week. A lot to do for just one class. All the short lectures are powerpoint but also a lot of reading.
Nice, but no tolerance for personal crisis. I was working crazy hours, and couldn't study much. Having he book saved me. Only 4 response papers, 3 in class essays, (not very long/not graded on spelling). No pop quizzes. Tests are fairly easy (multi-choice, a 4 or 6 ID terms on some tests). Simple enough if you study!
ARRRGGGHH!!! Okay, I took the online summer class which may be VERY different from regular semester class but I just don't like her methods or her quizzes. Reading assignments are long and quizzes are purposely tricky. Lots of essay homework and disscussions on ONE topic. Takes her FOREVER to post grades on assignments. Would NOT take her again.
I also took the online class. She's a very strict grader, and the expectations for the class are very high. She expects just 1000 words for the assignments, but even if you go WAY over that amount, she will say it's too short. Quizzes are unusually tricky. Reading is a must!
She is a very sweet teacher. you can tell she loves history and knows what she is talking about. Her test unbeliveable hard and she grades real strick when it comes to the papers.
Personally world hist was boreing to me but she was a great teacher. Sweet, knows her stuff, and willing to help. Take her
Good gosh, I did not enjoy her class... at all. Pleasant woman, though.
Patty is an excellent history professor! She is passionate and knowledgeable making it interesting to learn about the subject-even if you are not a history buff!! Class does require reading from the textbook weekly. Show up and listen and tests are manageable. Best history class/prof ever!
She loves history and will talk about it forever. She likes to have fun and lots of laughing in the class. Only bummer is the tests are really difficult and you MUST read the Chapters twice a week to get an A. Easy grader on the One research paper we had. If you like to read then take this class.
Professor Colman is an amazing professor! her essays are challenging along with her tests, but read entire chapters, use quotes for opinion back up, and enjoy!
One of Moorpark's Best. This teacher can get you interested even if you hate history. Grade-wise, you get what you put into the class but super clear instruction. Tests are easy as long as you read the txtbk. Expect to be challenged in writing essays but you will learn so much in the process.
Great teacher, and so so nice. but a hard class and tests are essays.
I went to every class and have never heard most of the test questions before, that because there all from the readings. Tests and quizzes were really challenging to me and I am an A student. It felt like college. She is a really nice person in general but has some skewed views on reality. Bottom line, she is nice but her tests are not. Be careful!
She takes herself too seriously and she grades on the quantity and verboseness of work, not its quality.
She was awesome! Want to take all of her classes!
She is as good as teachers can get. She's very fun and she really knows what she's talking about. I want to take all of her classes. Shes the best teacher I've had.
Patty is great!! Ive taken her for both M07A and M20A and she is the best. Class is always interesting and not too hard. Just 4 or 5 tests and a easy essay project. I'd take her again if I could!
She is an excellent teacher very passionate with what she teaches. I would recommend to take her class over the semester oppose to summer. There is so much information that I would have rather enjoyed more over longer period of time. But excellent teacher, extremely helpful and responds quickly to emails and helpful during office hours.
She's not just a hard grader, she's a CRUEL grader! Don't be fooled by the essay rubrics, that's not actually what she wants in an essay. Thinks a C or a low B is a good grade in her class. Docks points left and right for every little thing, not just on essays. Probably would not take her again unless I absolutely had to.
I took professor Colman for womans history and she was great! She made every lesson/class interesting we had 3 midterms, and 2-3 papers, and extra credit was available. I would recommend her in a heartbeat!
She is a pretty good teacher but don't let her niceness fool you. If her tests aren't hard enough, she grades them without any concern for your grade in the class even if you knew what you were talking about on your all short answer test she will still mark you down for ridiculous things.
I took this class online and not only is her grading hard, she changes the expectations after every essay. She asks you to support your argument with quotes from the book and when you do, she says that too many quotes were used. I would not take her again.
She is an awesome charismatic teacher! She's actually very funny and she adds things that aren't in the book. I like her a lot :) in sol/pol u.s. history there are no essays but a lot of group work and handouts. The tests are not accumulative, so it's a lot easier.
Best history teacher I've ever had! She makes it super interesting! Definitely take her!! The only annoying thing is that you have reading quizzes every week, but they're not that hard.
AMAZING professor! This is my second class with her and I plan to take more. Her class is always fun and interesting. She is so helpful and wants everybody to succeed. If you love history, take her. If you don't love history, still take her because she will make you love it
One of the best teachers I've had at moorpark so far. She's very passionate about her class, she walks around the class and talks and has interesting class discussions. I never liked history, but I would definitely recommend this class to anybody having to take a history class
Great teacher. Very enthusiastic about the subject and clear about what she expects from you. Makes her lectures interesting. Exams are challenging. One of my favorite teachers.
AWESOME! One of the best teachers Iv'e ever had. She LOVES to teach which makes class interesting! I would never consider a career in teaching but she has made me think about it because of her love for being a teacher will also inspire you!
Easy online class. She gives you a rubric for everything and if you follow it you will get an A or B. Im horrible at history and still received a B.
This professor Los so passionate for teaching! It's obvious she loves what she does and she makes learning about history really interesting. Her tests are fair, not too easy or too hard. She's very understanding and likes to help her students, just be courteous! I highly recommend taking this class, she's great!
One of the best teachers I've ever had. She's so sweet and she makes history so interesting! Her tests are a little on the difficult side, but i never studied and the lowest grade i got was a B-. Its just the essays that suck. Honestly, if you're thinking about taking anyone else for history, don't. She's amazing.
I loved this professor! Mrs. Colman is an amazing teacher and so passionate about what she does. Anyone who needs or wants to take a history class should take it with her. You will not regret it and will undoubtedly leave knowing more about the United States and its history and having a larger interest in history in general.
Professor Colman is a great teacher, and a very considerated person. Her online class is great. The amount of work is more than reasonable, and as long as you read the chapter and listen to the lectures, it should be easy to perform well on the quizzes. She is also very considerated, and gives plenty of time to prepare the research papers.Grt tchr!
Ms. Colman is amazing!! I loved history already, and she made it even better. She made me want to come to class every week. Her lectures aren't boring and she really draws you in. She made sitting through a 3 hour class exciting. I hope all teachers I have in the future are as great as Ms. Colman.
Colman is the ideal professor. She truly loves her job, and there was never a dull moment. Her lectures were intriguing, and I learned more than I ever had in previous classes. As long as you paid attention, took notes, and read the chapters, you could easily pass. She is a fair grader and prepares you for everything you need to know.
She really cares so if you are struggling TALK TO HER.
NEVER thought I'd ever be interested in history whatsoever. Her "lectures" are like a giant story that makes anyone interested in what she's saying. Truly amazing teacher but she's a tough grader and you really need to do the reading and do well on the quizzes. Besides being a tough grader, she's worth taking the class. Trust me you'll enjoy it.
She is such a sweetheart!! I usually hate history classes but she made it interesting! The way she teaches is like she's telling you a story; she's so enthusiastic about what she teaches, you can hear it in her voice. Extremely friendly, really funny, one homework assignment. I definitely recommend.
Second time I've taken this teacher and I love her even more. She's so caring and she absolutely loves her job! Her lectures are so interesting and she really draws you in and makes you want to hear what she has to say. She's pretty hilarious, too. Read the book and take good notes and you'll pass.
I loved this class!! Mrs. Colman is one of those teachers that genuinely wants her students to succeed, and is clearly always willing to help. Her lectures are intriguing and relevant, and she stays true to the content on tests and quizzes. If you take notes during lecture and read the book you will pass!
Took class online. VERY TRICKY TESTS. Discouraging after tremendous amount of studying. No instruction given, outside of independent reading of the text book. (Minimal "lecture" slides posted.) VERY DIFFICULT TO GET GOOD TEST GRADES WITH TRICK QUESTIONS.
This class was awesome! You absolutely need to read the weekly assigned chapters as all questions are pulled from them. Two field trip assignments but they were actually fun and you have to write papers on them which are also very easy! For the most part just read the chapters and you will pass easily! Would take her again for another hist class!
She is the best professor I've ever had at Moorpark College and I went there for 3 years. She cares so much about her students and is an amazing teacher. I would take her again for any course.
Was afraid she'd be a closed-minded feminist, and although there was juuust a dash of bias, she is very open to group discussions. Very helpful, and really clear on what's on the quizzes and tests. Final is not cumulative! Assignments are relative and lectures are so interesting! She'll make you want to read the textbook in it's entirety!
Make sure to get the book. she really love history, one can tell by her enthusiasm in class lecture. She is also supper nice. She loves to help.
Took M20A online and was an easy enough class. You do have to read the book for the quizzes, but they are pretty easy if you do. Museum paper is fun and gets you out and cultured. A handful of online discussions that you have to participate in, but nothing overly time consuming. A standard online class that should be no problem to pass.
LOVE HER! Patty is an amazing teacher, her lectures are more like amazing stories. She knows what she is doing, and she is so sweet. She helps out her students, and genuinely cares for them. She super funny too, If you don't show up to class, you will miss a lot. You need to take notes, whatever she says is accurate to what will be on her test.
One of the best professors I've had at Moorpark! She cares deeply for her students and for the success of the class as a whole. I would absolutely take her class again! You will not regret taking her class!
Love this professor and class. Professor Colman is so enthusiastic and knowledgeable about history, and she really conveys this to her students well. By far one of my favorite classes at Moorpark. I loved the "textbook" so much I purchased it. Truly an inspiring class, and taught by one of the best.
Patty is the best professor I've had at Moorpark! And I'm not even a history major! She's so sweet and passionate about history. She's also has hilarious stories. I've never liked the subject but I loved coming to her class because she made it so intriguing. Tests, including the final, are non cumulative. Make sure to take thorough notes!
An amazing professor. I never liked history but her lectures were so engaging that I couldn't help but learn from her. That being said, if you want a high grade in the class you will have to read the textbook because while her lectures are great, her tests can be very specific and requires that you read the book to get all the details.
Patty is an amazing professor. She is so helpful and kind and always there for you. She does give extra credit so take advantage of it. She gives was take home tests and quizzes. Her tests in class can be a little hard but if you read the book over at least once you'll be fine. Her lectures are never boring.
She cares about all her students. If you have any difficulty not understanding something, she will go more in depth.
Patty is the best hands down! She's passionate about what she talks about and makes the class so much fun! Works with you and helps you if you aren't doing well. Must take her for as many history classes as you can!
While I was not a huge fan of this class, Patricia was a great teacher. There are 3 quizzes, 3 exams, a term paper, and a final. While each exam isn't cumulative, there is A LOT of information to know. The exam ?'s and essay ?'s were ones that I didn't even think to study because they didn't seem important. She does help you during the tests though
She cares a lot about her students and wants everyone to pass her class. She's very nice and her lectures are very interesting; she makes class fun. If you need help she will help you. However, her exams are difficult. There are also essays, she's a tough grader so I do recommend you see a tutor if you are not the best at writing essays.
A good teacher overall, she truly enjoys the subjects she teaches and that is infectious. Attend class, take good notes, and READ the textbooks! Exams are a mixture of MC and essay - be forewarned that the MC questions can be tricky and sometimes seem to focus on what many would find to be obscure, one-line sentence facts found in the textbook.
Best professor I've had, she was very kind to her students and really wants you to pass. I'd recommend her for any history class!
Professor Colman is awesome! Her lectures are very clear and her tests are extremely fair!
Professor Colman was fantastic. If you go to class she gives outstanding lectures and tells you exactly what you need to know and is always willing to answer your questions. If you read your textbook and study class notes you are set!
Great professor. It was a hard class for me, due to my lack of history knowledge. I learned a lot, and her lectures were great! She offers extra credit. Quizes were scantron and blue book (essay).
Professor Colman is very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. I took her for US History and loved the class. Her lectures are very short (sadly) and she shows a lot of videos related to the content. No essays for homework, tests are multiple choice, free response, and short essay.
This lady's great! She loves when students ask questions, engage the text, and show motivation to learn. I learned so much taking this class and it really sparked my interest in American history.
I am so, so glad I got to take a class with this amazing teacher. Her lectures are the best I've had in my entire high school/college experience. She is enigmatic, kind, and an extremely fair teacher. I learned a lot and actually liked the subject material. Don't mistake good class for an easy class though!
Professor Colman is easily the most approachable, caring, enthusiastic professor I've had. She is organized and clear about expectations. I took the four week summer class - there is a lot of reading and the textbook is crucial. Not an easy class, but you will learn so much if you choose to. Professor Colman is one of the greats.
Patricia Colman is an AMAZING Professor. I normally don't like history classes, but she makes the lectures interesting. She actually cares about her students and wants you to pass. That being said you have to participate. Her quizzes and test are straight forward, do the readings and you'll get an A. 100% recommend you take her class!
Given the topics of this class can be a little touchy for some, she was the absolute perfect prof for this class Incredibly respectful when presenting rather unsettling but necessary material Read the ONE book It is necessary for quizzes, but not hard to read as it is just well presented facts Lecture heavy (easy to follow) so show up SHES AMAZING!
Patty is an amazing teacher! She is very informative and can answer any question you have! You get one EC opportunity, quizzes are open book, and she gives study guides for tests! Her class was super engaging and shes hilarious! Would definitely take again
Professor Colman is incredible. She is the best teacher I have ever had, and she made history truly come alive for me. Her lectures are so easy to understand and very interesting. Tests can be a bit difficult, but she is always ready to help her students in any way she can. She truly cares about her students. I would take her again and again.
Don't recommend her , boring class . And she is hard
Patty Colman is such a great professor and Race in American History was such a fascinating class! I usually don't even like history classes, but I loved hers. I am even taking another history class with her again because she was so good, and I don't even need another history credit. Take a class with Patty! You won't regret it.
I absolutely loved her! She knows the subject very well and cares about her students. She is an amazing teachers and tries to make history fun and interesting for her students.
Based on the reviews on here I decided to take her class... mistake. Tons of reading. Very tough and unfair grader when it comes to exam written essays. Takes points off of "participation" even when you had participated more than most of the other students. Never will give you full credit for anything even if its amazing. Wouldn't take her again.
Professor Colman was a great History professor and I'm glad I took her class. She made history interesting and you can genuinely tell she loves teaching it. She is also very caring for her students and makes everyone feel comfortable. Her class is a bit lecture heavy and hard, but I definitely do recommend her.
Took her class because of all these amazing reviews I saw. DONT TAKE HER. she will not teach anything that is useful for the tests nor quizzes. The quiz is only based on the textbook. You have to learn the whole class on your own. I dropped out in time and got a W. AGAIN DO NOT TAKE HER IF YOU LIKE YOUR GRADE.
Attending lectures and READING the textbook is a must. Her tests/quizzes can be super specific, so definitely study. However, Patty is amazing. Her lectures are actually interesting, she's super nice and funny, and class isn't boring. Super available outside of class if you want feedback on work. Only a few tests/quizzes, and one paper, so do well!
She is an amazing professor who clearly cares about her students and material. She really knows her stuff! Her lectures are exciting and she motivates her students to do well. Honestly she's probably my favorite professor that I have had so far. Participation matters, and reading the textbook is important. She is great at answering questions.
Great teacher, 4 quizzes and 4 tests a semester. Quizzes you can use your notes so super easy. You can tell she clearly knows her stuff lectures are very in depth and passionate.
She is the best teacher I have ever had hands down. She is the most caring, passionate, amazing teacher. I took one of her classes this summer and loved it. I am now in her m145 class and I love it even more. She is fair, kind, and passionate. She will make you love her class, no matter which one you take. She made me love history, TAKE HER CLASS!!
I absolutely loved prof. Colman! She was fantastic! She is very devoted to history and really gets into her lectures which makes it so much more enjoyable. I don't like history too much but I loved this class. She is always available after class for questions and is super easy to talk too. I will definitely be taking her for future classes.
Patty is a sweetheart. She does her best to make the material fun and engaging. You can really tell how passionate she is about history.
This teacher was overall a good choice. I personally would not take her again due to the set up of the class but this does not equate her to being a bad professor. She is kind and considerate and truly wants her students to succeed. This is a good class to take for people who don't typically enjoy history.
Nice teacher overall and you can for sure tell she cares about her students but all her class is are lectures that have 0 lecture notes or powerpoints, she just talks about irrelevant content that doesn't reflect her test/quiz material at all. Let me summarize the course for you simply, write A+ papers and prepare to read your entire history book.
Prof. Colman is the best. Kind, funny, & she truly cares about all of her students. Her history M145 class is very interesting & easy to follow. I would highly recommend her class for anybody who is interested learning, not somebody just looking for an easy A. Take good notes, read the required text, ask questions & you'll do great.
One of my favorite classes I have ever taken, and one of the best professors I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Take a class with her and you will not regret it. She genuinely cares for the subject and her students.
Great class with a great professor. So much respect for her and she made me want to study the material, studing is necessary for passing! I know a handful of people that found it difficult, but take sometime for the class and you'll be just fine.
She is very passionate about history and made it fun to learn. I really learned a lot this semester. You have to go to class or you wont pass because there is SO MUCH information. Tests are decently hard but are from the notes and reading. Just do the work and you will pass!
Professor Colman is amazing! I took her summer class and it was such an easy A. You use a free online textbook and have a quiz everyday based on the previous nights read. The tests are extremely easy and she gives you the essay question ahead of time. Participation matters as well as attendance. Highly recommend this professor!
Never a dull lecture! Shes very passionate about what she knows and presents it In Such an open manner. I took the summer class and it was the perfect work load In my opinion. 4 weeks, only homework was to keep up w the readings & sometimes the occasional extra credit. She also provides study guides for All the readings. Super super sweet woman.
I had never cared about history all my life but Professor Colman made me so intrigued and excited to learn that I took M140 right after 130 even though I didn't need the course at all. Her lectures are amazing and she makes her projects really fun and educational at the same time, she has great videos to break up lectures and make history fun. 6/5!
Love this prof. She is super organized and ready to go every class.
She seems like a nice enough lady but she lectures a lot and gives a lot of quizzes and exams. It's an ok class if u need it but I wouldn't take her again.
One of the best college classes I've taken at Moorpark. So informative and interesting. I took the 8-week course which required 2-3 chapters of reading, 1 discussion, and 1 quiz every week, but if you stay on top of it and watch the lectures, you will do well. Would definitely take more classes from her!
She is my favorite teacher that I have had a Moorpark College. She is genuinely a good person and really got me motivated to be more interested in history. Doesnt give a bunch of homework and test are on the material she asks you to read. I would definitely recommend her!
Very kind and good class, but adds political opinion slightly more than I would prefer
Not a good professor
She is a sweetheart! Her class ran smoothly. Consists of discussions and reading chapters every week. Quizzes are based off the chapters so you really have to read and take notes along the way, if you do you'll be good on the quizzes. But the book is interesting but may be a dread for people who don't like to read. Overall good professor.
Professor Colman was the absolute sweetest professor!! She was very caring toward her students and you could tell she loved what she was teaching about. The lectures are on the longer side, but she makes them very interesting and I learned a lot from them! Quizzes are a big part of your grade, but they're open book and not too hard. Def take her!!
I love this professor!! She was super sweet and I am not usually that interested in history, but she made it understandable and enjoyable. I would say be ready to read! The chapters aren't too bad, but usually take a while. Also note taking is very important in chapters and lectures because they will be on the tests! Overall, loved this teacher!
Prof Colman is great! I dislike history, but she made it less horrible to learn. I took her 8 week class and it was a lot of reading and had weekly quizzes. But it is double. Good choice for people who are not fans of history.
I definitely recommend Professor Colman for History of American woman. She is very knowledgeable and the overall course is lots of fun. I was a C average student in high school but this class felt super easy! You have a very interesting textbook by Gail Collins. If you want a fun and easy class be sure to take Professor Colman.
I took Race in American History with her and it was the best class I have ever taken. The book she has us read is an actual history novel not a textbook. I usually hate reading but I loved reading this book for class because the information was so interesting. It is A LOT of reading though. Her lectures are fun and interesting.
Another prof that only cares about forcing their views onto students. Too much reading, and lectures that only focus on our country's racist past. Ignorant towards student views that don't line up with hers. Was on the waitlist and did the entire first week of work only to have all of the waitlisters get kicked out with no explanation. Don't take.
She is knowledgeable and passionate about History. This provided very informative and analytical lectures and discussions. I appreciate her organized lecture and engaging attitude with her class.
Professor Colman was an excellent instructor. The class was well defined and easy to follow. She gets involved in the weekly discussion posts, offering her feedback, as well as challenging you to dig deeper. Overall, very pleasant and wants her students to succeed. She's prompt to respond to e-mails and offers guidance along the way.
Loved her class!! Theres timed weekly quizzes & discussions which can be difficult if you dont do the reading. DO THE READING. Overall I loved her class and she was quick to answer any emails. She provides link to textbook and does really good recorded zooms. If you read and take notes youll get an A. Test are multiple choice & 1 short answer.
I will start off by saying I HATE history, but Professor Coleman is so PASSIONATE about history, it actually made me LIKE this class. I took an online class. Her lectures are really good because she brings history to LIFE. This was not an easy A. I had to work hard, but her discussions really make you THINK. I am so glad that I took her class.
Genuinely cares about her students success. Attendance is important but not graded. Lectures are interesting and she isn't just trying to fill the time it all actually matters. Will review anything you ask for midterm and final (noncumulative) and hands out a very detailed study guide that prepares you completely. Truly just wants you to succeed.
Good teacher, very involved and passionate about the subject.. she's a bit of a harsh grader on discussion posts so you have to put time into making those really good. Expresses her opinions via the material so it feels like you're only learning stuff related to race in American history- it felt like that made up all the discussion topics
Professor Colman's US History class was great. Even though I like history, most history classes I had before hers were always very uninspiring. But there wasn't a single day that I didn't enjoy the class or feel bored. Professor Colman is knowledgeable and always has good energy, and interacts a lot with the class. Overall, a pretty good professor.
I am a taking a four-weeks, in-person summer course. There are interesting lectures and plenty of good reading. You feel inspired by the end of the course.
Professor Colman's classes are so interesting and she is really passionate about what she's teaching. She gives extra credit opportunities and really cares about her students. If you miss her classes it might be hard to follow. Overall, if you want an interesting and enriching history class definitely take her class!
Professor Colman is an absolute sweetheart. I formed a connection with her that I never expected to have with any college professor. Participation will always go a long way in her class! She uses an online textbook which is easy to navigate. Quizzes are based off of the online textbook while the exams are based on lectures. Take good notes.
She takes the time to get to know her students and you can tell she really cares about each one. Her lectures aren't boring and you learn a lot of interesting information from the past. Allows one whole page of notes for exams and also offers extra credit for attending certain events on campus. Would 100% take a course from Professor Colman again.
US History Through Reconstruction. Colman's lectures were absolutely amazing; the best speaker I've ever had. The tests are pretty hard and they make up most of your grade. She said the average on them was a C. I received all B's on them and one A and barely received an A for my total grade. You get a full paper front and back for each test though.
Professor Colman is the best professor I've had so far at Moorpark. Her lectures are very engaging and in depth. Note-taking is easy in her class. She allows notes for tests. As long as you take notes and listen tests will not be too hard, they are worth most the grade however. 10/10 would recommend. Seems like genuinely cares and loves to teach!
Genuinely one of the best professors I've ever had the pleasure to learn from. Professor Colman teaches as if she's giving a story, which was very easy to follow and extremely engaging. If you're looking to clear up a GE and learn at the same time, this is the best thing yet. You're also able to have notes on every exam. Amazing class overall!
Ok for people who love history and really long lectures
Professor Colman is such an amazing lecturer and really understands how to captivate and engage a classroom. Despite the rushed nature of a summer course, she did such a great job ensuring every student understood the material and that no one fell behind. She has such a great spirit about her, and you can tell she cares about her class immensely!
lecture heavy
Engaging lectures and thoughtful discussions. Colman's passion for history shines through, even in an online setting. unstuck AI was a game-changer for test prep. Challenging but rewarding class overall.
Truly an amazing professor, was able to cover extremely sensitive topics with care.
She's probably the most amazing teacher I've ever had, and without a doubt, the most passionate about what she teaches. Her lectures are incredibly well-researched, and you can truly feel how much she cares—not only about the subject matter but also about her students' success.
focused more on quizzes and exams, but they were open book/note. i missed a handful of classes and still managed to do well; you can tell she likes what she teaches and i love that. such an amazing professor 10/10
