Great professor. four tests one gets dropped. material is not that difficult. Easy A!
fun class, interesting prof, uh alumnai. prof like to interact w/ student & class discussion. layback class. come to class and write down notes & you will go fine. test: 90% ppt, 10% txtbk. look for definitions and key concepts on test. 4 tests, drop lowest test, no final. 4th test on final exam date. not hard to get A or B.
Easy tests. No attendance required. Tests are based on textbook. Drops one low test grade. She's great! She tells interesting personal stories and relates them to sociology. I've never napped in this class from boredom. I highly recommend taking her!
Very nice. Keeps lectures interesting. Uses powerpoint. Exams are highly based on text book, but easy. Study key terms. She adds 2 questions on her lectures, which are not in the book. Otherwise, easy A.
very sweet lady. always there to help if you need it. she puts up her powerpoints that she uses in class on webct with blanks. if you fill those in and study the review...you'll do great.
According to other people this class was easy. I just didn't get it. The lectures and power point notes really don't go with the exams. I do not recommend this class.
This is an easy A class. One of the most easiest class I ever took. The whole class is based on powerpoint/lecture-fill in the blanks. Attendance is not mandatory, print slides and read book and you'll be fine. READ! READ! and you will make an A on test. I skip the class all the time and still did good on tests. I really recommand this class!!!
Even though I only got a B+ this professor is very easy and helpful. I could have easily gotten an A but I NEVER went to class and I always studied one day before the test and crammed everything up.
Nice lady, very helpful if you ask for help. The class material however is very boring!!!! She also takes the entire class period covering this boring information. We had 3 exams and 1 final exam. She drops the lowest exam grade. She didn't give extra credit until the 3rd exam exam. Class isn't that hard if you study and read the books.
Easy class. Just print out the power point notes and fill the rest of the blanks in during class or on your own by using the book. Do the reviews, and you should do fine on the exams.
Very easy class, lectures are interesting, uses powerpoints. I just brought my laptop to class everyday and typed them all in. I got a very good grade and I'm sure that had to do with it. You don't really need to read the book, only skim over parts that she talked about. Offers extra credit with discussion. Easy A.
Class is ok. Can get boring sometimes. I got a B+ because I overthink the easiest questions and she does this a lot. Some questions are tricky. Not big on extra credit. Sometimes, her notes does not match the questions on the tests.
Good professor, I like the fact that she she tells stories in her lecture.
Easy class, but you know how some people talk about how much fun their sociology class was? It's not like that with her. Very "by-the-book". She has started using clickers, so you have to be there if you want all of your points. She uses slides that you can fill out as she goes, which is really useful if you have a laptop.
Easy class if you go to every class... everything is pretty much in the book, but the lectures are pretty interesting and helpful for the tests... I got a high A
Esay class, gives u LOTS of extra credits, but u have to pay attention and do them before they're due. they're easy though, just random easy questions. Clickers are easy 100s bc she tells u the answers sometimes. 4tests 1 dropped. tests may seem VERY EASY but are tricky and may be out of the blue. so skim over the book, but other than that she's gr
Just go to class, do extra credits, pay attention, read a little bit, but not much and you'll make an A. i studied for her tests on the day of the test so they're not rocket science. offers one dropped test. lectures are interesting. don't let the test questions fool u though. thought i made an A on 1 test, but it was a B. lol it was dropped though
Very clear and interesting lectures. For exams, I suggest if u dont want to come to class, read the book and PP and you should get by. But trust me, her awesome lectures will get stuck in your head while taking the exam, so i definitely wouldnt miss it. i would definitely take her again. I got an A.
Intersting class...I would totally recommend her. Her tests are easy too. and she drop one of the test to make it easier.
She's a good teacher knows her material test are super easy and attendence not madatory recommended
nicest teacher ever. super easy class. interesting lectures. she posts test reviews online so no need to go to class. just buy the big textbook not the reader.
good teacher. not as easy as everyone says, but if you study, easy a.
Not an easy class. Must go to class because there are class activities (8-10) throughout the semester. 4 tests. and 4 sociology papers (3-4)pgs in length. One textbook and on short story book to read. Lectures using powerpoint and does NOT post notes online. You MUST study for tests or you will do bad. Study and take good notes!
Very nice teacher. Tests are difficult. 4 tests all multiple choice and several papers to write throughout the semester. Lectures on powerpoint but you are welcome to ask questions during class. Study for tests because they are hard!
Very nice teacher! Easy to understand her lectures. Does NOT post notes online or give you a review. 4 Tests and she drops one of them. 4 papers to write and several class activities throughout the semester. Study extremly hard for tests and you take tests in a testing computer center. Usually 50-60 questions. Overall ok class.
Too much work for an intro to sociology class. 4 papers to write in one semester. A bunch of in class writing assignments. 4 tests. The only good thing is that there is no final. Very helpful teacher and you can ask questions during class. Take good notes and read the book.
This teacher must have changed within the past few years. She doesn't post notes online like previous students have stated. Thought this class would be an easy A, I was wrong. You can still make a descent grade if you study. Must attend every class lecture and read both books and take notes before taking the test to get an A! Nice teacher but tough!
You will do fine as long as you pay attention in class. Just buy textbook. 4 short papers. Easy tests. She drops the lowest out of the first three. Studied for test the day of the test and made an A in class.
Hah! This class was not as easy as people say it is. 4 Tests, 4 papers, and several class activities. Read the textbook and study extra hard for exams. 2/4 exams were fairly easy. All exams are about 55-60 questions
Very nice teacher but lectures can get boring. Easy A. 4 exams, drops the lowest, a paper, a few participation grades...super easy class.
this class must have changed from previous years. there were NO papers. just class lectures and a few in class wrting assignments but nothing too hard. read the book and take notes. use the exercises on mySOClab to study for tests. only 4 tests and no final. i got an A. not hard at all.
Loved her! Class is mandatory and taking notes is a must since she tests over material in her lectures. 4 exams, lowest one is dropped, 1 paper/project, and some participation grades. Study the book, her lectures (not online), and some MySocLab and you will do fine. Extra credit is on the last 3 exams.
Very charismatic and friendly. This is an easy course -- all of the test questions come directly from the book. Do the homework and pay attention, get an A.
Very easy class to fill your core requirement. I just had to read over the chapters a few times to pass the exams. The class projects were a pain. If you got a low grade you just didn't even put any effort. This class needs some work to get a "A".
This is the easiest class ever. Just don't miss class, take good notes, and actually read the book. Don't just study her notes because there are some concepts in the test that are only found in the book. I have no interest in soc and only took it as a core, but it's just too easy not to get an A. The most diff part is just staying awake during clas
I love this class. The material covers almost every things you wanna know about our society. Not hard, because it's just introductory course. Worship those chapter reviews at the end of each chapter in the textbook before tests, you're be fine.
This is the best prof ive ever had and its not even my major! Very interresting lectures. Tests arent bad if you know the vocab and the general idea of the chapters. One group project
LOVED THIS CLASS!!!, IT WAS INTERESTING AND WATCHED ALOT OF CLIPS AND DID CLASS ASSIGNMENTS, 4 TESTS WHICH YOU JUST READ THE CHAPTER REVIEWS AND THAT WILL GET YOU AN EASY B + ON THE TEST AND WITH THE CLASS LECTURE INCLUDED AND EXTRA READING AN A ON THE TESTS WITH NO PROBLEMS, ITS A GREAT PROF AND GREAT CLASS. PROF GIVES FAIR AMOUNT OF EXTRA CREDIT.
literally just went to class and did nothing. studied for test day of test and managed a B by just skimming through reviews.
She loves the subject. Easy a/b, just show up to class and do all of the online assingments....tedious but easy
Her discussions centered around race relations in the US. The class discussions were about racial stereotypes. A lot of stereotypes were discussed in the class. Although it is an easy class, the effect it had on my self concept and my concept of the world was not worth it. I personally did not necessarily like her or her class.
Extremely nice and helpful. 4 tests and drops the lowest of 4 tests. PLEASE READ YOUR SYLLABUS. Seriously. EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW IS ON THERE. All the due dates, test dates, where to find assignments, how to do assignments. It gets annoying getting emails on blackboard from people asking things they would of found if they read their syllabus
There are 4 tests, 1 EASY project, 5 Response Papers (1 Page in length), and 6 Class Activities. One of the tests and Response Papers are dropped. Overall, an EASY class! Be sure to take notes in class since most of the test materials come from the notes. Be sure to read all of the Chapter Summaries before each test! Dorsey is super nice. Got an A!
Mrs Dorsey is an excellent lecturer. She is clever and energetic, and tries to make the material appealing to all. The tests and assignments are all very fair and as another review stated, CLEARLY COVERED ON THE SYLLABUS. So read it! It is the best syllabus I've ever seen! Do the work, get an A.
OMGosh, Dr. Dorsey is one of the best sociology professors! I really wish she would teach other courses. You have 4 exams in this class, the lowest exam is dropped. You get a multitude of participation points, show up to class and do your homework and you'll do well in her class. If you have to take SOC 1300, I'll make it simple for you...TAKE HER!
Amazing teacher, had clear syllabus & was very helpful to students who tried. You must attend classes & read the book if you want an A. She gave 3 extra credit opportunities (added 3 pts to final average). I dont like sociology but she made it very interesting, interactive, and fun. Requires online work, 1 simple research paper,& 5 exams. Take her!
She is a very nice teacher, and her classes are somewhat interesting. I would suggest going to class everyday because she does not post her power points online. Test questions come from her powerpoints, the book, and articles that you read online. She also offers extra credit at the end of the semester.
Lots of busy work with mysoclab, response papers, discussion questions etc. but it is an easy class. Go to class, take notes and you'll definitely pass. Reading the articles and the book will get you to an A. One paper, easy. 4 tests (m/c, true/false) but she drops 1. I recommend her.
Nice teacher.. Class was kinda boring.. Seems overwhelming but pretty easy... Tests are from Both book and lecture...I would definitely recommend her
This was very interesting. You learned a lot about of our society. The book is a must, do your homework and all the work she assigns. It seems like a lot of work but it is easy. She tries to get you involved.
Amazing professor, was not really interested in Sociology before taking this class. Very glad I took her she made it fun to come to class everyday. She does pass a roll sheet around sometimes, however I missed a few days and still ended with an A
You have to do online homework every week, but it's rather simple if you have the textbook in front of you. The test questions come mostly from her lectures, so take notes! She drops the lowest of your 1st three test grades. She's energetic and enthusiastic about the subject. You won't regret taking this course. It was really interesting.
This lady is AWESOME! On the first day of class she will tell you no cell phones are allowed, but truly she doesn't care. As far as her class, if you are fine with online work than you will pass, and in class she just goes over powerpoints and the tests are based on those. Overall, I would take her class again and she is suppper nice!
She is very helpful, her method of teaching requires that you pay attention all the time, but she makes it very interesting. Read the book before you go to class and you will be fine. Her exams are a little bit hard.
She is not a good teacher what so ever. All the comment saying she a good teacher she's actually not, her test dont make sense what so ever. She changes one word in the question and it means totally a different thing. you will regret taking her. But if you dont mind staying up 7 hours reading her chapter and taking the test then take her.
She is really a nice teacher. I am currently in her SOC 1300 class. She is really sweet and she moved and canceled some assignments for us too. You will love her. It's just that the chapters in book will overwhelm you. Sometimes the class gets boring but she still try to keep the class entertaining
She's an excellent, hilarious teacher that really makes you see life in a different way. She is by far my favorite professor. The workload is a lot - 30 pages to read after class and an online quiz over the reading, but it's easy. The class is wonderful because everyone participates as if it were a discussion. I definitely recommend her.
If you want to spend 10 hours reading the book. DO NOT TAKE Her. She expects so much for just an intro to sociology. The tests are really hard and she has a lot of busy work assignments during class, so if you miss there isn't a makeup. I wish i would have taken it online or with someone else
shes a nice lady but i absolutely hated her class. the first test is easy if you study enough but they get progressively harder each time. and all the stuff she does in class is just busy work, which ok, some of them are kinda fun. but if you take her your gonna have to work hard to make an A
Prof. Dorsey class is easy, IF you apply yourself. You have to study and read the textbook. The homework load is a lot, but overall she's pretty fair. She's understanding when it comes to the class not doing so well on a particular section. I would recommend her.
Very interesting class and fun lectures. She tries to mix up the class with videos and activities. Also gives a TON of extra credit, just keep an eye out for opportunities on Black Board. Would definitely take her again.
Honestly speaking, the class for an intro level(freshman level) isn't easy as previous reviewers state in terms of work load and amount of effort to put in class. You need to read the book as well as go to class and put in a lot more effort than your "average", emphasis on average, class to make at least an A. If your looking for easy A, not easy.
Very easy class. Must read the textbook chapters to pass exams. Lectures were interesting, rarely got bored. Provides a lot of extra credit and very lenient if you missed a due date. Has an attendance sheet to sign (randomly), so you should attend just in case. Overall wonderful class!
She is so far one of the best professors I took. I missed a quarter of semester and 2 in-class projects (8 a.m. class, you know) and still managed to make an A. Just have to watch out for those extra credits. She is a generous grader and a passionate educator. Read the chapters for the exam and online homework, as well do all the projects. Easy A!
Great Class! Lots of in class activities but very easy. Easy projects. Lots of online work but easy to keep up with. Exams are fairly easy but you have to READ the text and pay attention to details to do well on the exam. She is very enthusiastic and I can tell she enjoys teaching. Her jokes are effortlessly funny. Very Approachable! Recommend her!
Managed to get an A with very little effort in classwork and homework. Definitely recommend.
For a freshman entry class this isn't the easiest class honestly. Reading the textbook is MANDATORY. Class attendance is mandatory as well as she takes attendance and does in class assignments. Lecture isn't very relevant to many test questions. Great professor though, just wish it didn't require so much studying
I'm telling you right now, If you hate reading a ton of pages and studying just the book I advise you not to take this class. This lady wants so much for a Intro to Sociology class. You HAVE to read the book to pass the tests and attendance is mandatory because she takes attendance and does in class assignments. Don't bother!
The easiest class I've taken so far at UH. Prof.Dorsey is super enthusiastic about the subject so lecture was always interesting.Gives tons of extra credit just go to class and read and it's an easy A.
Fun and thought-provocative class! The more the class engages, the more you can actually get something out of this! Lots of group activities in this class.
I feel like people on her are going to easy on her. She is a great professor dont get me wrong but you definitely cannot miss class. Most of the activities are grades and you have to be in class in order to receive credit. In addition to test on my soclab you have a test about every two weeks and you must turn in practicums every three weeks.
Sign in sheet for attendance, and everything she talks about in class is on the exams and lots of EASY online reading and quizzes that will actually HELP on the exam but rarely. Spends a lot of time going over slides and gives little time for in class group work. Easy-A.
Prof. Dorsey is great! She makes her lectures so interesting and fun. I love sociology and this class made me love it even more. Get ready to read a lot, and be expected to participate in class. Also, go into this class with an open mind, and you'll enjoy every bit of it! Definitely recommended.
She tends to assign alot of busy work, but it is usually easy and quick to complete. Make sure you show up to class as some assignments are done there. You MUST read the textbook in order to do well on the exams, for she pulls questions straight from the book. As long as you put in effort and do the work you should pass the class.
There are 4 tests, including the final (not cumulative). Tests are easy if you show up to class bc some Qs are basically word for word on the tests. I made 3 Bs 1 A on the tests and still got an A+ bc she gives lots of extra credit!! weekly chapter hw(online). There are group assignments and individual projects.
easy A. lectures can be long because she expects everyone to participate in the discussions and group activities. tests are kinda hard even if you read the book however it is doable.
I took a hybrid class and it was decent to manage. All online assessments can be taken multiple times. Her tests are a lot from the textbook and lecture. Consult the syllabus for ALL due dates. Prof Dorsey is awesome and cares. I thoroughly enjoyed the class and what Prof Dorsey taught. It's interesting and relevant to be an informed citizen.
The hybrid class was very easy to manage. It's a small workload and the online assignments are extremely easy. However, the chapters are very long but as long as you pay attention in class and take notes, you should be able to pass. The TA is also very nice and there's plenty of extra credit. Attendance is mandatory.
Really simple class and she made it very engaging and enjoyable. There were some group assignments but not many and they lightened the workload. There are a couple of research/field assignments that are very straightforward and easy to get As on. Tests are at CASA and come directly from the lectures and online quizzes. I highly recommend.
This is class is definitely an easy A if you just remember to keep up with the reading and HW. The topics can be interesting and the textbook is an easy read. You definitely have to study for the tests and make sure you understand the conceptual stuff.
Go to class, do all of the online work, and you should be fine. This class is not difficult, it just requires a minimal amount of effort. If you miss class a lot, you won't get more than a C. 4 tests taken at CASA. I would recommend going over each chapter of the test before hand. However, you could likely pull 70s w/o studying if you wanted.
Go to class, try not to miss in-class work if possible those can really hurt your grade. Practicums/ homework chapter tests can really help your grades. Complete everything and do any extra credit and you will most likely get an A. Exams are based off of class lectures, powerpoint format is not very clear but as long at you pay attention it is fine
Wow you have to take dorsey's sociology class!! I practically failed almost every test and I ended up getting a 96!! All you have to do is complete all the assignments, do some extra credit, and attend class. If you can't get dorsey because it is already filled up, DO NOT take Salinas because he grades so much harder!
In class, she is great. Energetic, and loves to speak to her students. Her presentations are interesting. One thing though, is that if you were to need help outside of class, it doesn't seem like she's all that happy to help out.
She's a very easy teacher, very lenient and understanding. I took the hybrid version of the class, did have to read, but honestly a lot of it is common sense.
This class was super easy, all you have to do is read the textbook which is really easy to read, super basic concepts. The textbook is free which is a plus. The other small assignments have unlimited attempts and 4 writing assignments that are 300-500 words. She is such an easy grader. I made a 97 in the class with barely much effort.
Such an amazing passionate sociology Professor. The class is really straightforward and nothing hidden. Assignments are always posted so its easy to get a head. Just listen to the lectures and there is no need to read the textbook she is always more than willing to give you all the help you need.
She's very passionate about the information she provides. She makes sure you are involved and participating. She likes to do in class work and goes over anything that you may have trouble with.
Professor Dorsey is amazing! I took this class as a hybrid so I only went to class once a week. She did a great job explaining, The tests are very straight forward. She's funny and very nice. There are a couple of group assignments but they're all in class. This class is extremely enjoyable, 4 tests total.
Get ready to read ALOT and have chapter exams over each chapter plus 4 quizzes over additional reading and then chapter homework. Skip class and you won't pass. Her lectures are quite boring because she goes on and on
Professor Dorsey is a great person. You MUST be in class because she will give assignments during class that you have to participate in or else you don't get credit. Lectures are out of the book and the tests are impossible if you don't memorize the text, which can be very tricky. Pay attention to the details.
I took Dorsey for SOC1300 and she's the reason I decided to minor is Sociology. She's such a sweet lady and a really good teacher. She's super passionate about sociology and about teaching it and always comes up with activities that makes the class less boring. There is homework and a couple of super short papers. But nothing hard!
Prof. Dorsey is a good professor and really tries to make the class social, since she assigns groups based on seating. The whole group thing is not bad honestly, as long as everyone does their part. Take notes on her lectures and read the pearson E-textbook and you'll do fine in exams. It's an easy A if you put some effort into it.
Pretty good teacher. If you're taking Sociology I recommend taking Dorsey. Her tests are about her lectures, and textbook. Lectures are interesting, gives extra credit and curves at the end of the semester. I kid you not, I thought I would've got a B in her class because of the grades I got on the test but in the end I managed to pass with an A.
This class is boring and Dorsey's teaching is mediocre. Tons of little assignments but everything is really easy (all online assignments offer three attempts so I do everything by process of elimination) and you don't actually need to read the textbook to learn concept that will be on the test.
Easy class and the teachers's pretty cool. The hw is easy and you can get away with not reading because she basically tells you everything you need to know in the lectures. It was my only 8:30 class and i was able to actually pay attention in the class that early in the morning.
I took the hybrid class and it was great. We got easy homework and the lectures were interesting too. Take her class!
If you attend the lectures and read the text, you will have no problem in this course. Her lectures cover most of what is on the test, and the rest of it is on her blackboard. This class changed the way I look at interaction as a whole.
Professor Dorsey is definitely a professor you want to take! The only con about her class is that you must attend class to earn an A because there are in class activities and lectures that help with the exams. 4 exams and MySocLab assignments/readings are all online. Easy A.
Professor Dorsey is amazing! I took this class as a hybrid and really enjoyed it. We were put into groups and she would make us do journals every week. Her test were basically all from the textbook expect some questions from her class examples. She is so enthusiastic about the subject that she makes it so interesting and relates it to our lives.
Professor Dorsey is one of the best I've ever taken at UH. She is very respectable to students and easy to reach outside of class. I took this class for a credit outside of my major and did not regret it at all. I believe that everyone should take this class because you learn so much about society today and how to better understand other cultures!
I took the hybrid class so I only had class once a week. The 3 tests pretty much strictly come from the lectures in class so you have to go to class and actually listen and take notes but like I said, it's just once a week. 3 tests. A couple online assignments due each week. No cumulative final.
Easy class! You absolutely have to go to class if you want an A, attendance is a big part of your grade. 4 tests, lots of in class group activities, 2 practicums that are like 300 words each, and weekly chapter tests on blackboard (3 attempts each).
She's a good professor and teaches well 4 exams. do the online assignments. If you do all the assignments and just review for exams you should be fine
Honestly her class is amazing. All of the topics are very eye opening and the coursework is very thought provoking. Test are easy A's as long as you actually read the chapters. Highly recommend this class if you need to clear the course as a requirement.
Dr. Dorsey is VERY COMPASSIONATE, CARING, GENUINELY WANTS U to do WELL, appreciates students who work hard n try their best. Have probz? Jst b honest w her she'll work w u. Online Chap Exams, Quizzes + Groupworks due each wk. VERY DOABLE. 4 TESTs on IN-CLASS mats + REQUIRED mats n QUESTIONS in her unit journals on BB. LENIENT gradescale.
One of my favorite classes i've taken so far! Professor Dorsey is very kind and compassionate towards her students. The grading rubric is very clear and shouldn't be difficult as long as you keep up with your work. Pay attention in her class, the material will be on exams. The class involves a lot of teamwork activity so make sure you attend.
She is a great teacher, but you have to be a fast note taker. Sometimes she speeds through them and she does not post them online, so if you miss it, too bad. Lots of group discussions and assignments, but she also gives opportunities for extra credit. Make sure to study all of your notes for a test, she does not give study guides.
I took this class as a blow off because I was soon to graduate and I was a bit afraid because she had some tough reviews on here but she is the best professor at UH! So knowledgeable and so sweet. I loved this class. While you do have to read, I can promise is about interesting stuff and some are even common sense.
Lots of reading/revel work. She's nice and very passionate about Sociology but I'm not a SOC major so it was meh. Tests are based on what she says in class and the textbook definitions so don't skip class for dear life. Also I'm in the hybrid class. Don't take hybrid if you don't have to lol...... for anything....
She's a good and passionate teacher. There's lots of hw in revel for the hybrid class. People say this is an easy A but I don't think so. You have to read the text and know what you're reading.
She's a great professor. She's very passionate about what she's teaching, and she understands that lectures can get boring, so she has you work in small groups. If you take the hybrid class, make sure you stay on top of the REVEL work. Also, MAKE SURE YOU DO REQUIRED PRIOR TO CLASS ITEMS IN BLACKBOARD!
I loved professor Dorsey so much! She's so kind and passionate about the class. Every time I emailed her or asked her for clarification about an assignment, she was happy to help. I took this class as a core requirement and thought it was really easy. There are 4 exams which are based off the online book, REVEL. Study it and you'll be good.
She is a very nice professor and makes the lectures very interesting. Class is not hard as long as you just keep up with the work. Exams are not hard as long as you read the book and pay attention in class.
Mrs. Dorsey is a great lecturer. I took the hybrid class for SOC 1300 and it was very reading intensive. You have to really keep up with the REVEL textbook readings to do well, but they are very easy concepts, nothing extraordinary. The tests include the REVEL info AND whatever she puts in "Required Before Class" so make sure you study those!!
I had SOC 1300 hybrid course. The class was focused mainly on readings done on Revel. The assignments and readings on it were generally very easy and you can easily get an A on all of it. The tests included your revel readings and the examples she says in class so its good to go to the class and not skip. Other grades; practicums and in class work.
Super duper easy class. Just be ready for long lectures and try not to take a morning class if you arent a morning person... it's torture. Otherwise, she is a sweet and funny professor who tries to make sure you understand the concepts (which are pretty self-explanatory to begin with) There are several easy extra credit opportunities... do them.
Very very VERY easy class. All homework is online, the papers are easy, and the tests are easy as long as you study. All I did was make flash cards out of the vocab in the online homework and I passed every test, mostly B's. The group work is very easy (and I HATE group work), but they're only discussion posts. It's not bad, would recommend.
This class was so easy!! 4 exams, two practicums, and the REVEL work. She gives so many extra credit opportunities, do them, they add up to 20 points at the end and that could make a letter grade difference. I got Bs on all 4 exams but ended up with an A in her class. Also she gives 10 points for attendance so don't skip!! She's so nice take her
The majority of your learning will come from Revel online so it may be less time consuming to take this course with Prof. Dorsey online rather face to face. In class you earn points from attendance and group journals and if youre absent then your grade will suffer.
You can easily make an A in the course as long as you attend class and complete homework. Some test questions are rather specific, but many test questions are gimmies. Complete your homework and practicums, and you will be fine.
This class is an easy A if you pay attention and do the revel assignments. Test are very straightforward. You will have group journals and a lot of in class discussions. It's a very interesting topic and the professor is passionate about the subject
Dr. Dorsey is a really caring professor. She will work with you on pretty much everything. There are HW's due every week through REVEL, but you can google the answers on quizlet. The tests are easy; there are (4) and an optional cumulative final ONLY if you missed an exam. Extra credit opportunities. EASY A. Show up to class bc attendance matters.
The hybrid class involved completing chapter lessons on REVEL, attending weekly mandatory lectures, participating in a group during class, and three tests at CASA. The professor gives really good lectures and truly cares that her students understand the concepts. It's also a useful course for life in general. Attend class and do well on tests.
I love sociology so of course I love this class, but Professor Dorsey made it even more enjoyable. She is so passionate about teaching and never makes a student feel dumb for responding incorrectly. Overall, an extremely easy class as long as you do your weekly online quizzes (easy and open book) and show up to class its an easy A.
I honestly feel like they stuck a staff member in to teach this sociology class. Half of the stuff she says isnt true and the other half is common sense from the textbook. she takes attendance and has in class group assignments 99% of the time. Tests are common sense and all of the online homework on revel can be found on quizlit
She is real passionate about the topic no doubt. She does seem to ramble a lot. Although her tests are somewhat simple, she gives no reviews and she states everything is fair game whether in lecture or a part of the reading to a story she tells. Thats probably the worst part about the class. Otherwise, weekly REVELS and one practicum.
This class was not hard to get an A in, but you do have to put in the work. If you pay attention to her lectures and take detailed notes while reading, you'll get an A. All of her Revel assignments are easy bc the answers are online. Attendance is mandatory. Expect to work in groups bc you sometimes have to do journals at the end of class.
Professor Dorsey's is probably one of the most passionate teachers I've ever had. Her lectures are very interesting and if you pay attention you will most likely get an A on the exams(4 exams). Textbook assignments are easy. Lots of EC. There are also in class group assignments that are easy. If you want a fun and easy class take this one.
After a few weeks attendance becomes a part of your grade. There is a REVEL assignment due every Sunday which isn't bad at all. Her lectures are actually very interesting. If you can keep up with the Revel and pay attention in class the tests are pretty easy.
Prof Dorsey is a very sweet lady. But her class is a lot of work for an intro course. We have teams that you work with for every single class where youll complete in class assignments. Its kinda silly, but its a good chance to meet people to study with.
Test contain mostly info from her lectures, ANYTHING she says is game. She's great at what she does and you can tell she's truly enthusiastic about teaching sociology, so her lectures are interesting to listen to! There's 1 major project, you gotta complete online textbook assignments, and 4 exams. She offers some extra credit btw!
Super sweet lady. Really cares about her students. Took the Hybrid course and it was fairly easy. If you go to lecture and read the textbook/ take notes there's no reason not to get an A. Accessible outside of the office hours. Homework each week and blackboard discussions (not too hard). Exams at CASA.
Prof. Dorsey gives good lecture. Make sure you take notes and do the homework and you should be good for the exams.
She makes up definitions to words e.g.: she equated agrarian societies with slavery and tries to paint religion in a bad light. She also tries to force ideas we know aren't true on student such as "Gender is a social construct used to control people". She used alot of biased information in lectures and I was easily able to prove her lectures wrong.
4 exams (non-cumulative), optional 5th exam. Use Revel for chapter readings and quizzes (answers online) GO TO LECTURES! Hybrid (once a week), but after week 3 she will start taking attendance and starting having in-class team assignment. Tests are common sense, but based of the lectures AND textbook. Gives extra credit for surveys, but easy class.
Great Professor! Lectures are long but much content helps during exams! Easy class to pass if youre willing to participate.
3 exams. If you miss one you can take a replacing comprehensive. weekly homework and occasional class group work. GO TO CLASS. sometimes she will talk about trips or her undergrad, that comes out on the exam as XC. does not post slides on BB so yes GO TO CLASS. amazing teacher, class is always interesting.
Dr. Dorsey overall is a cool professor. If you do the online homeworks and attend class this course should be fairly easy. She cares about her students and makes lectures enjoyable, even at 8:30am.
I took her 8.30 am class and fell asleep every day. I showed up to take tests and finished in 10 minutes every time. This class is entirely memorization and vocab. All the answers are on quizlet don't bother reading the revel assignments. She doesnt allow laptops or phones in class and the lecture is copied straight from revel. Very easy frosh yr.
DO NOTTTTT take this professor if you are looking for something that will get you an A in the class! you need to study and go over 2+ hours worth of stuff for each chapter just to make a B on each test. Do yourself a favor and take the online sociology or one at Lonestar online.
Really really interesting class, she's great at explaining the material
You can definitely tell that Professor Dorsey has a passion for her job. Her lectures are informative and fairly entertaining. DON'T skip class. Attendance isn't a huge factor of your grade but small group responses are. I missed one day and it was enough to bump me down to an -A. Go to class and skim over the textbook for the test and you're good!
Favorite professor of the semester. Her lectures are interesting, enjoyable and you can tell sociology is one of her passions. She rarely takes attendance, but there are group assignments that you need to be present for. She actually has a personality when teaching, and isn't dry af. Easy A as long as you go to class, take notes and read the book.
Had active lectures and give group assignments throughout the semester that was completed in class, rarely took attendance that was done by paper and assigned homework through the textbook. Exams relied heavily on her lectures and the textbook readings.
Exams are based off of the textbook and her lectures, so you have to read every chapter and show up to class. Offers a lot of extra credit that can easily help your grade (surveys). Take notes and pay attention to her personal stories.
There was no lectures, just short intro videos to textbook chapters (which you have to read cause the exams have no reviews). Pearson/REVEL chapter quizzes and online discussions due at the end of almost each week. Professor responds to emails fast and is nice. She curves on the two exams. There were also two essays you submit on REVEL. Not bad.
lots of homework, only two tests, with discussion assignments and textbook work, didn't really learn anything, TA was tough grader for discussion assignments, but it was a hardworking class
TAKE THIS CLASS. She is the most understanding professor and really tries to make her lectures engaging and excels at it! Her class isnt too hard to get an A in if you do all the online assignments and the extra credit she assigns. She wants to see all of her students do well. If you want a GPA booster and a great professor take her!!!
best professor i've ever had! as long as you take notes from lecture or blackboard content and online textbook, you'll ace the tests. textbook homework is pretty straightforward. super easy class.
Readings and quizzes on the reading on REVEL, weekly quizzes, some formal discussions on BB, some required flip grid discussions, offers extra credit opportunities, overall very interesting class
Made class easy
Super easy class and very interesting. Coursework is not difficult at all, if you try you'll get an A. Great professor she wants you to pass her class, just email her with any concerns you have.
Easy class. I do feel like the amount of work she gave was a bit excessive for an intro class. Shes really nice and is interesting. She made us a test review after we asked her for one. Tests and bb quizzes are a bit specific but if you do all the readings, youll be fine. Revel quizzes are easy as well. Lots of extra credit. 2 exams.
Took this online & it was great! Super organized and easy to keep up with. Each week you read the online book and the material she posts on blackboard. Both have easy quizzes. No surprises with this class. She even gave a test review. Sad I never met her in person though. It's obvious she loves what she teaches and seems super nice!
Perfect example of how an online course should be run. Materials are organized, easy to understand, and broken into manageable pieces. Tests draw from all the material in the textbook and other readings and the professor gives a good review guide for them. Amazing class.
She was super nice and the class is easy. Its not like an easy A class. Like you do have to study for her tests but she provides study guides. She was an angel totes love her
She offers ALOT of easy extra credit throughout the semester. Take advantage of it. The assignments can be overwhelming, if done all the last minute., but generally are easy. Study the resources and maybe look at the textbook when studying for exam! Pretty easy class for a intro/freshman class
Easy A! Youll have to buy REVEL and theres homework/mini quizzes due every week but theyre so easy! Super sweet professor!!
Professor Dorsey is the absolute sweetest! She always responds to emails quickly and is so understanding. The course consisted of blackboard quizzes over readings, REVEL textbook quizzes, fun flipgrids, discussions, and 2 tests. She also offers A LOT of extra credit!! Overall, a great professor and easy A if you put in a little work
The coursework was pretty heavy; we had to do work in an online textbook weekly as well as weekly work on BlackBoard. Overall, the work is not difficult, just make sure to do it. The professor is very understanding and offers a lot of extra-credit. As long as you do all your work and study for the exams you can easily get an A.
Although there was a lot of work, everything was very structured. You can get an easy A from paying attention to the details in the REVEL and videos and readings assigned each week. Overall very fun class and an easy class that gives you a breather on how the world works and why certain events happen. Prof Dorsey is also very sweet with questions!
She was overall super sweet and did not stress me at all during my first semester She was welcoming and felt like you were being taught by an actual professor through her cute flipgrids and it was nice to see a familiar face with her Her tests were easy as long as you did your work and I loved this class
Professor Dorsey is a really good professor. Make sure you read the textbook and take notes because without that, you will not do good on the exams. Smartbooks are easy. Kind of a medium workload but she makes lecture super easy to understand and the TA is super responsive and great. She will understand if you have to miss class. 9/10.
You have weekly txtbook assignments with Revel which is similar to like Smartbooks but easier. Weekly Bb quizzes. Some weeks you also do discussions or flipgrids. 2 exams, no final. exams use lockdown but no monitor. Overall, its pretty easy class, just do the work and your chilling.
Her and the TA are the best. She makes this class very interesting.
Great professor, cares about her students, and always responds to emails when possible, she truly wants you to succeed, as long as you study, do all your assignments, and take advantage of all extra credit opportunities an A is very manageable.
She is SUPER SWEET! Her homework each week consists of a chapter reading and a few things on black board. If you do all her work and pay attention in lecture, you will do just fine!
This is an awesome class if you want to boost your GPA. The content is interesting and there are few assignments. You have the same weekly assignments and she is great in lecture. She is really easy to reach outside of class. Most of it is common sense and she gives extra credit. There is no final unless you need to makeup an exam.
There is required supplementals attached to every chapter. if you read the chapters, supplement reading, and go to class this is an easy 95+. she also has questions on her tests about things she covers in class that isn't in the textbook or supp. so attending is helpful to secure that A but not necessary for an -A or B
She is a very understanding professor and very easy caring. She understands her student's needs and helps them out. There are 4 exams with no final exam. Do the REVEL as it adds extra points and on the whole just make sure to complete all the assignments and it's an easy way to get an A. I personally couldn't get one due to some circumstances.
Good professor and cares for her students! 4 tests, no final, 1 Revel assignment and 1 Blackboard quiz due weekly. Extra credit is given but it's not an abundant amount. Attendance is semi mandatory since there are in class activities for hybrid classes (not sure for online). She didn't curve any test but put effort into class and you'll be fine!
Prof. Dorsey is very passionate, clearly knows the material, & made class engaging through varies interactive activities. However, her tests were filled with very specific questions about articles, we had read, rather than broad concept ideas, and didn't provide a study guide. I would take her again; just study for her tests thoroughly.
Professor Dorsey is so kind! Weekly work was easy but it does take some time to do the REVEL. Don't skip class unless it's an emergency because each exam has a good 1/3 of info from lectures. Read all the articles assigned and use REVEL flashcards because exams are very specific. Overall a very passionate professor and an easy A if you take notes.
Very understanding professor. Her lectures are extremely interesting and helpful. Her exams depend on lecture material and textbook material so attend class. Overall really easy class.
Be prepared to read the revel textbook. Tbh reading the textbook and going to lecture will get you an A. She asked specific questions about what was shown during class so attendance is important.
She is clearly a Marxist who tries to involve Karl Marx or his teaching in every lecture when the same lecture has nothing to do with him. She doesn't stop her class on time and wants to continue until she is done. Also, she does not post the slides and gets mad if a student tries to take a picture of them even do, she goes fast.
Her lectures are entertaining, but the slides she uses are very poor and don't convey the content in a way that is easy to understand and she tends to go fast. Taking notes on the textbook is important to get a good grade. She makes up for her lecturing style by having incredibly easy multiple-choice-only tests, there are 4 exams and no final.
I didn't realize it initially/right away, but Mrs. Dorsey was pretty much everything I'd want in a teacher besides maybe her only allowing computers/laptops in the front 2 rows. She was kind, she didn't take herself too seriously & encouraged laughter, she was helpful, & she was respectful. She had a great aura/energy, I'll miss teachers like her.
Dr. Dorsey was relatively chill. She doesn't want people to use phones and only allows computers in the first two rows. Besides that her lectures are slide heavy but she is willing to explain concepts if you need help. For the tests you need to read the textbook, but besides that the class is easy.
I took her in the 2023 fall semester. She was a very sweet professor and explained the material in an easily digestible way. She had very fun stories related to her field. The McGraw Hills are a lot easier compared to other classes. Her exams are pretty easy, but she doesn't not have a test review, so you'll just have to review your notes.
Prof. Dorsey is a caring, fun teacher who makes the material digestible. While the slides can be tricky, reading the textbook and attending class are key. unstuckstudy proved helpful for test prep alongside other resources.
For me, this was a hybrid class. Overall this class was very easy only if you pay attention in class. She is sweet and has been doing this for a long time. Her tests are easy if you read and watch the videos.
She is such a great and caring professor. Her test's aren't too bad as long as you review the material she posts on canvas and in class. She does provide extra credit opportunities. There are also in class activities that can help boost your grade. I would definitely recommend taking her as she makes sociology easy!
It was a great class. You have to attend class, read the textbook, and do homework to get an A, but overall, the lectures were easy. There were four tests, but if you pay attention and do your work, it should be an easy A. The professor was great, she was nice and encouraged talking to classmates to discuss the content. Overall a great class.
Great instructor. If you need the core credit, take her class. It is very clear and understandable and the teacher is very knowledgable, willing to help, respectable, and kind.
She is a decent professor. She does talk a lot though. Make sure to do the extra credit assignments!
She was so kind, all of our “attendance” would basically just be a paper assignment at the end of class just asking about our opinions. She made the class loosen up a bit when we first started by making us talk to others around us. Tests were easy. Would take her again!
