She explains things very well, works lots of examples in class, and tells you easy ways to remember the formulas.

Lectures are very clear. If you do your homework and study for tests, you should be fine. She gives out study guides for tests/exams -- do them.

She explains things well. Homework is collected & graded and counts toward your course grade. I thought her tests were hard, but then I took the final exam (which was standard for the entire dmat dept.) and realized that it was hard too....so it was the material, not the prof, that was difficult for me. She treats you with respect.

If you like learning math via the computer, then take Mrs. Ellens. She will help you with the math if you don't get it. She is eager to answer students' questions. She also watches the test deadlines and urges you on to meet them. She runs the class strictly by the syllabus - don't bother asking for exceptions to the rules.

I thought she was a great teacher. She is fair and upfront with the class. Her tests are not easy, but they helped prepare me for the departmental final. I would reccomend her. She really takes the time to explain things which is what I consider essential to succeeding in a math course.

Ms. Ellens is an awesome teacher. She takes away points for attendance, but you can still pass if you don't go. I was out of class for 3 weeks, and she was very understanding and helped me get caught up and finish in time for finals. Take this class, I've hated math, but with her and using the computer as a tool it is easy.

I RECOMEND HIGHLY! I have never really understood math but with her she made it easy, fun, I love the storys she makes and applies them to what we are learning. She answers your questions via email, or in class. Very nice, helpfull. We do take short quizzes every week, of our previous metarial learned. She gives reviews for test, helpful for tests.

She's really good at teaching. I took her lecture class this spring which was a Tuesday and thursday class and, i think is easier than the computer lab class. We took quizzes on tuesdays and were about what we had learned prior class. I really liked her and really recommend her! :)

Mrs. Ellens is the first teacher i have ever had in math that really know how to be human. I have been out of school over 30years and i struggled in school. I am so just over whelmed. But Mrs. Ellens is so patients and understand that i am have a lot of trouble with basic math skills. I really wish i had a teacher like her when i was in school.

Mrs. Ellens explained the material well. The class covers a LOT of material. If you keep up with the homework and do all of the Mastery Tests before the tests, you should be okay. The tests are based off the Mastery Tests - so you get a good idea of what will be on the test before you take it. The class pace is VERY fast!!!

Ms. Ellens was the best math teacher I ever had. Period. I had several different professors in developmental math and she was the best. Always there to help you and will explain a problem until you get it. I took her twice and got A's in both classes, and I learned to love math thanks to her!

Clear lecturer and kind of funny too. A bit slow sometimes (but better than too fast!). The class itself is kind of tough but she gives study guides for each of the 4 tests. The material on the tests are similar to the study guides. No notecards allowed. Homework is decent, but not too much and she helps you out if you need it. Would recommend.

Her tests were based off the Mastery Tests in MyMathLab-- no surprise topics on the tests. I liked Mrs. Ellens' class because she ALWAYS worked out example problems (similar to the homework) in class - that helped a LOT when I was doing my homework.

Clear lectures. Has a sense of humor - makes the class bearable. Gives out in-class reviews for each exam, then posts the worked-out solutions to the reviews online. This helps when studying for the exams. Is helpful when you stop by her office. Don't expect to sweet-talk her into changing your scores - she goes strictly by the syllabus.

She's an amazing teacher, I am not a math person and I hate math since I was in high school. But her lessons were very helpful and clear. You work hard, you get high grades. Absolutely recommend this teacher

Professor Ellens was absolutely amazing! I'm not really that great when it comes to math and I received a B in her class :))) Lectures can get boring sometimes, but this is college. She offers so much help before exams and will make sure she teaches every concept that will be given on the homework before you leave class. I definitely recommend her

Taking her was a bitter sweet experience for me. I ended up with C+ . She gives area of concentration for the test but expect surprises and questions that are twisted out of proportion in the test and the exam. I will avoid her like plaque next time.

Professor Ellen's was a really sweet professor; however, she talks so fast during her lectures because there is so much materiel to go over. There were 5 test total and a bunch of homework on MyMathLab along with a chance of extra credit for going to tutorials. College Algebra is a difficult subject, so best of luck.

One word for Mrs. Ellens: AMAZING. I HATED algebra and was terrible at any math but after taking her class I understood the concepts and received an A! Plenty of chances for extra credit if you go to the algebra corner. She explains everything SOOOO well and she is funny. A great lady.

I agree with most of the comments. Prof . Ellens is the best . Yes the material goes fast , but she explains stuff clearly and often in a very funny way. I strongly recommend prof Ellens. She will give you credit even for 1/3 of a problem. Seriously, that helps. Please, do not be discouraged by some negative comments. Take her! Look no further.

I would highly recommend Professor Ellens!!!! She was very nice, respectful, and caring towards her students. She will make sure that you know the material. And if you don't, she will take the time to teach you one-on-one. You will for sure pass if you go to her lectures. Textbook is not mandatory, but MyMathLab is mandatory for the homework.

Explains basic math skills throughout the tough curricula presented, she is caring and always makes sure your paying attention, her jokes and little talks are hilarious she simplifies EVERYTHING wonderfully. Honestly she is a model teacher. I will be forever grateful for the effect she had on making me love math again. NO REGRETS!!!

She is always in a good mood. She explains each lesson very well & if you have any questions ASK, she will answer them. Be sure to attend, I am not good at math so I needed to. The exams are okay, definitely pay attention to the exam review. TRY TO GET 100 ON EVERY HOMEWORK. If you're not good at math it will help you in the end, like it did for me

Book not needed, unless for personal reference. All of the information needed will come from her lectures. Easy to follow lectures, she makes sure that you understand. Her tests will be similar to the review. Hw on Mymath lab, multiple tries & examples, due every Monday @ start of class. Over all a great teacher, humble & down to earth.

Mrs. Ellens has a phenomenal teaching style that keeps students engaged and explains the information in a way that is easily digestible. She has a great sense of humor and will work with the students to accomodate any emergencies or other difficulties. 10/10

I took maymester algebra and it was a breeze. Lots of homework but she'll give you extra credit for exams. She really wants you to learn and understand what she's teaching. I wouldn't recommend if you can't learn fast pace.

I had her for College Algebra and Trig and I have to say... after coming back to school, especially math, after 7 years, she helped me relearn the concepts of math and fully help me when I needed it. Always drops the 4 lowest HW grades & replaces the lowest quiz and test scores with your highest. If it wasn't for her, math would've been the worst.

Ellens is a great teacher. She pays attention to detail and gives good examples to make math relatable. She can be corny but she is just keeping the classroom from staying so serious since most students have trouble with math. She will take up every little second of the class teaching so don't expect to be let out early.

Prof Ellens is easily one of the best Math professors at Richland. She really takes her time in explaining the concepts and formulas, and she also shows you tricks for remembering some of them. She never made anyone in the class feel dumb for not understanding something. Final replaces lowest test grade, and test reviews are similar to the tests.

i was kind of nervous to take this Math course again because I had to dropout the previous semester, but Ellens really helped me get the hang of it the second time around. She really cares about the students and does everything possible that you pass with an awesome grade. She's funny, engaging, and she gives lots of examples and great lectures!!!!

Has to be, but she doesn't take off too much points if you get the process right but get the answer wrong. Take her quick before her class gets full!

This is my second time taking algebra, and I wish I had her my first go around! she offers extra points on the test if you go to the math corners and log in, which can bring up your overall grade! You do have to do your part, as with all math classes though. She gives the best math lectures I have had by far though!

I love that Prof. Ellens wants to help student pass the exam. Deep down she cares a lot for every student. Her teaching is not my style. I struggle with math and she is willing to go one on one to help me. She does lecture pretty fast, her test is similar to the review quiz, and she does not curve grade.

we need more teachers like Professor Ellens! if you want to actually learn things and learn them well, this is who you go to. Her class wasn't always a walk in the park, but if you are doing your homework every night and study the material, you will surely survive in her class.

Just finished the maymester class for trig. TONS of homework due to the class only being 17 days long. HW was done on MLM and you get 4 tries for each problem. Professor Ellens was quick to respond via email if you were stuck on a problem. She did tell me via email that I was doing great in the class which motivated me to finish and get an A.

IF YOU WANT AN EASY A. YOU WONT GET IT. Prof Ellens is a real gem. She is a quick responder and grader! She gives feedback on questions missed on exams. However, exams ARE RECORDED and YOU MUST SHOW YOUR WORK ON HALF THE TESTS. Its hard But I am taking precal and I am breezing through the trig portion thanks to this class. Easy A? Nope. Master? Yes

Had her in SP2020 inperson then had to switch over to online because of the pandemic. She's amazing. She's very helpful and responds quickly to emails. If you have a question that you don't understand, she will work it out for you through email. Attend her virtual office hours if you are taking her online class! They help a ton! Taking for 1316 too

I have took Professor Ellens for Math1314 and sh is the BEST Professor. I highly recommend Professor Ellens for Math 1314 Ill be taking her for Math1316 next semester. If you do the homework the test will be easy for you.

Difficulty of class depends on personal mathematical skills. Personally Professor Ellens was great, she explained things very clearly. Homework was consistent throughout the semester but wasn't overwhelming. Everything on the exams were covered in class so no surprises if you study. Attendance is not mandatory but highly recommended to do well.

I have no issues with Prof Ellens. She drops 4 hmw grades, 1 quiz grade, and 1 test grade (which is amazing and saved my grade). There is a lot of lectures but that is mainly due to College Algebra being jammed full of math and not her. The review assignments give you the questions on the test but just reworded so it is very helpful to study from.

BEST PROFESSOR EVER!!!! I took her for Math 1314 and 1316 and i wish if she teach pre cal so I can register in her class. There are 4 exams and each week there is 2 homework and 5 quizzes. She gives review sheet for each exam and review them during the class. To get an easy A just concentrate during the lecture and you will be fine.

AWESOME PROFESSOR!!! I have taken her for Math 1314 and 1316 and wish i could take her for pre-Cal but she does not teach it. Her exams are EXACTLY like the reviews and her homework assignments are very easy. She answers questions during lectures and makes sure everyone understands before moving on. Prof. Ellens explains course topics in an easy to understand manner, then works out several examples from homework. Problems on her tests are ones from the online review quizzes. She also posts test review videos where she explains how to work a lot of the problems in the review quiz. Class is formula heavy, but it's Trig. Highly recommend.

If you're not good at math, this course won't be easy, but Prof. Ellens will work with you: you just need to try!! There are 4 unit exams + the final, and the final replaces your lowest exam. All homework is through mylabmath and there are 5 easy homework quizzes, your lowest gets dropped. I wouldn't have taken this course with anyone else.

Professor Ellens is an amazing Professor! She cares about helping everyone understand the material and explains everything clearly. She also responds to emails quickly, even late at night. While there's a lot of homework, that's expected in math classes. For the first time, I'm not struggling in math, and I highly recommend her, 10 out of 10!

Honestly she's one of the best professors I've ever taken, she does a ton of examples and her homework and tests matches the lectures. If you want to pass take time to do the homework and get extra tutoring it's free! College math is not meant to be easy and you need to actually study like 12 hours extra per week for a 3 credit hour course.

If you are thinking of taking College Alg or Trig, do yourself a favor and take this professor. She makes math so much fun. The homework level is good, but its easy to fall behind. lowest 2 homework grades drop, there are end of unit quizzes that can be retook at the end of the semester for a better grade. Bonus questions on test.
