Loved this class. She's very enthusiastic and helpful to her students.
Great Teacher, lots of work, she makes you learn.
Awesome teacher. She makes it fun. Explains things very clearly. A must for anyone taking AMH 2020.
Great class, learned more about history then every before
Funny and exciting teacher. You will need to attend class and do weekly papers but I feel its very worth it. She gives you a study guide for tests, that if completed can be a very effective tool. I'd highly suggest taking her class!
Miss Farless is way cool. She definitely tends to stress the political aspect of history (which she'll state up-front during the first class). There are only two tests: a midterm and a final. She says they're hard, but they're not. Take her class!
She is definitely a really good teacher. It's nice to hear a historically educated person talk about history. Every class was interesting, and she is just an overall very nice lady. Class is fun and easy if you do your assignments and study guides.
She is the best history teacher i have ever had. She makes the class fun. She is great!!
awesome teacher, busy work paper do eveyr week. given a study guide for tests. just attend class and you'll do fine. she gives a lot of extra credit and takes care of students.
She rules. She's into the subject which makes it interesting for everyone. She really tries to get students involved as well. And she wanted a chilie pepper so I'll try and give her one.
Amazing prof! She is really into what she teaches and gets the whole class involved. Note taking hurts your hand, but you only have to do one paper a week, and she offers many extra credit opportunities!
Awesome! But her tests were lonnngggg!
Gives lots of assignments for extra credit. Very enthusiastic and you learn a lot. Take good notes though!
good class...
my favorite professor since i started at ucf! her enthusiasm and sense of humor make the class interesting, and she is very considerate of students. lots of opportunity to succeed in this class. TAKE HER CLASSES! :)
Great class. At first i thought her enthusiam would be annoying but it grew on me. She really dedicated for you to suceed, so lots of extra credit. You just have to be sure to study. I was happy with the class.
Not too difficult. Just pay attention. You will learn if you want to and she will help in any way possible!
she takes attendence, and you have to study alot for the tests. she's really nice, though, and she is very helpful. really interesting to listen to, makes the time go by faster. i recommend this class to everyone.
Very enthusiastic - you can tell she loves to teach history. Class can move quick at times - there's a lot of information to cover, but it's never unbearable or anything. Extra credit is always there for the taking, and she's understanding about late work
Great Teacher!!! As long as you study and come to class you can easily get a A. There is alot of writing, but it is straightforward, doesn't require alot of thinking, and is given to meet the Gordon Role. Again, she's great!!!!
She is incredible. One of the best teachers of all time. She tells you whats going to be on the tests. Only bad thing is an essay evry week. But satisfies Gordon Rule easily
Awesome teacher, especially if you are a history major. You have to work in her class, but it is worth it. Too bad she doesn't teach upper level classes......
Weekly essay is a pain but not hard at all. Attendance is mandatory but class isn't painful to go to (a nice change from all my other classes). Once you get into her style of teaching everything's simple. Definitely recommend!
Her main objective is to make sure you know history. Her tests are extrememly nerve recking, but once you take it it is not as bad as you thought. ALOT of studying only a midterm and a final..but overall she made you interested. I highly recomend her!!
Gives Notes, loves History, only two tests which are pretty difficult. Wants you to read a lot, and write essays
great teacher, she makes it worth going to class everyday. She has two test pet term, study and you'll have no problems. I highly recommend her.
weekly essays and 2 exams. lots of extra credit opportunities. knows a lot about her subject which makes her interesting to listen to. lectures are online, and cover a lot of material. easy to ask questions and gives clear answers.
Prof. Farless ia awesome. I took her last semester and found her course very interesting. She knows her stuff and really gets the studenst excited about the material. If you can take her-do it! She's the best.
Outstanding professor! Excellent passion for and knowledge of her subject. Great communicator who's willing to work with students. Pay attention in class and tests won't be difficult. Highly recommended for history majors. Hot babe!
Best Prof. EVER! She is the nicest lady and she is very helpful. She knows everything about the subject and teaches it well. Essays and notes online. Pay attention and you should do fine. Classes are interesting. Very funny lady. Take her if you can!
she is an AMAZING teacher, but she only gives 2 attendence days for the whole semester. grade is based on weekly essays and 2 tests, which are extremely difficult. don't take this class if don't want to work.
Good, knowledable, professor. Very clear and nice. Can be funny. The class requires a lot of writing. I wrote over 20 papers in one semester although most were only 2 pages. Study and pay attention, not so easy.
Ms Farless has tough tests (just a midterm and a final), but she gives you study sheets at the beginning of the term. She knows what she's talking about and makes history interesting. Plus, she cares about her students. I took her for both 2010 and 2020.
Not an easy A but not a hard B. A semi-easy B I guess. Great, interesting teacher. Makes a boring subject (in my opionion) a lot less boring.
Lectures are great. Provides study guides in advance. No extra work other than writing 3 essays every nine weeks. Midterm and final are extremely tough.
I love this teacher! She is so nice and you can tell she loves what she does. Tests are really hard but she gives review sheets so you at least have some idea what's going on. Just come to class!
she is probably the best professor i have had so far in my two years at ucf,she moves at the perfect pace and is more than willing to help you, not an easy A but a wonderful class most likely my favorite so far..
OMG very hard class if you hate writing essays all the time...and there's only TWO tests, the mid-term, and final...you bomb the mid-term, you might as well withdrawl coz the grading scale is wicked...like only 30% is giving to essays and 70% to exams!!!
Do yourself a favor, take her class! Don't be scared off by essays. As long as you do them you will get a 100 on 30% of your grade. If you study you can't get below a B. She curves tests, gives tons of extra credit, and she really cares about students.
I really enjoyed her class. It may confuse people because it really sounds like she is running an American Government class. However, you have to do some work and studying, but pretty much show up to class and just print her reviews online. Good Class!
One smart redhead. See is nice and if you really want to learn history she is for you. If you dont like history, then drop her, she gives long 3-page essays and pretty nerve racking tests, i would take her again, but would definently look @ other option
Great professor, very enthusiastic and wants you to learn. Study and you will do fine. Weekly essays, a midterm and a final. Midterm and final are part essay and part multiple choice.
Wonderful professor who knows how to get the students interested in the class! I would def. recommend her but I believe she is only giving classes at the Rosen Center next semester.
nice professor ... boring if you aren't into historical politics, though. not too hard of a class -- just be prepared to really learn the material!
Great Professor! Def. recommend her. 6 essays 3 pages each, easy 30% of your grade. Midterm & Final exams, very difficult but attend class, study notes & study guide guaranteed a B, at least.
History never seemed interesting until I took a class with Farless. It is very high paced note taking, but you don't have to do the reding to do the papers. SO nice and one of the best prof. I've had. One of those who you can tell loves the subject matter
Great teacher, what can I say. No one cares more about you passing than Farless. Attendence and essays count for 20% of your grade and you have a fairly easy midterm and final. She is always willing to help you anytime you need to.
She is very nice and if you ask a lot of questions you can usually get extra credit for it. Class was not easy but if you study** there is no reason why you can't a "A".
Prof. Farless is the best! She is very clear, funny and informative. You can tell she loves history and really knows her stuff. She's the best! I learned a lot in her class.
Nice and energetic but asks for picky detials on tests that has nothing to do with issues she spends twenty minutes talking about in class. I worked my ass off, talked to her, did extra credit and ended up with a C+
I loved Farless.she knows what she is talking about and gives alot of extra credit and I learned so much in that class.READ THE BOOK FOR HER TESTS AND DO THE ESSAYS!! i know you read these so "hey ms. farless!"
Prof Farless is a great teacher. She loves history and tries to make it as fun as possible. Tests are not impossible, just study your notes she gives you online and read the book. Do the essays and go to class, very possible A. Do all the essays!
ONE OF THE BEST PROFESSORS YOU COULD EVER GET. REALLY NICE AND UNDERSTANDING. WORK LOAD IS FAIR AND GARDING IS ALWAYS FAIR. EASY TO UNDERSTAND.
Great Teacher, keeps class interesting, ok tests, tells you exactly what to study, everythings from the book.
Take her for both history classes!!! AMH 2010 & 2020. Must go to every class, and take GOOD notes, or know someone who does. Great idea to have study group, also to compare notes. She tells you what to study, study well the night before, and get an A.
great prof.
Awesome!!!
She is an excellent teacher and she shows that she really cares about her students. She explains information really well and she makes it fun. Make sure you do your reading because the tests come mostly from the readings. I love her she is a really really good teacher.
One of my favorites! Hated History until I took it with her. She knows her stuff and classroom lectures are interesting and interreactive. Definitly reccommend. Be sure to keep up with the reading though and participate in class, the semester will fly by :)
Class is very interesting. Dr. Farless is an excellent teacher. Be sure to do you reading before arriving to class. If not, she may give a pop quiz. If you do not have an A or B, you did not put forth any effort. Class is straight foward and to the point.
she is so nice to start off and she want everyone to do good in the class, she gives lots of opportunities for extra points. Just do the reading or try atleast and participate in class and she will love you.
The teacher herself is cool be she gives so much to do that there isnt enough time in the world to ask for the help you'll need. Though She is really cool The work she asks for is really hard Class Takers beware.
Hard teacher, because she wants to teach about EVERYTHING! But she gives more bonus points than you can ever imagine, just do the work it's not that difficult nor long. And tests, well she'll give you a review sheet, but you're better off reading the book instead! But take her she's down to earth and A or B is a given.
She is by far one of the best teachers i've had. She is very helpful and really wants you to do well. She offers E.C and the tests are that bad. Although, the review sheet for the test is a little unclear because there are 50-60+ terms. Tests are analytical so know your info! I'd rec. this teacher to anyone!
Prof. Farless is an outstanding history professor. She has a way of explaining history in a meaningful way, and she focuses more on concepts rather than just useless dates and facts. If you like history at all, you will love this class- her lectures are very interesting. She is also very approachable if you need assistance.
Very nice, understands that this is one of your cake classes. Tests are not easy, but she gives tons of extra credit
she is a very nice lady. her tests are difficult but at the end of the semester she gives a load of extra credit it doesnt matter, she also let us use all our notes on the final...BIG help!
Tests are difficult, they are directly from the book--so don't bother with her notes!! She gives alot of extra credit, minimal efforet required!!
GREAT Professor! Knows her stuff. Challenges students to think!
Go to her office hours weekly (or every other week) and she will generously give you historical information that is extremely helpful for the tests (*hint*). I loved this professor because she was very entertaining during class. I never fell asleep!! She does so much to help the students get A's (like a lot of extra credit!).
She was a great teacher. She is very willing to help you out of class as long as you ask. AND ASK. I think did well in her class because before the tests I did kind of a one on one review with her. For essays take a lot of classnotes on the topic then just repeat that in your essay. Good teacher learned a lot!
She is overall fairly easy. you def. have to study to get an A, but she helps you out with extra credit. DO the extra credit, trust me those points will help out. Her tests are kind of difficult, expecially if you do not like history, but she is willing to help you.
Very easy class, all quizzes and exams are taken online open notes and open book. The only hard part of this class is attendance, essays, and the occasional pop quiz. Attendance is mandatory, she makes you sign a paper every class day, but you do get 2 free days where she wont penalize. Overall very good teacher, easy class.
She's awesome. Take her. For me, History is one of the most boring subjects ever! But she's really good at what she does and even makes it interesting. Just make sure you go to class everyday. She takes attendance, you can be up to 15 mins late and she will give you two absences where she wont penalize you. If you read, you'll pass
Very picky with small details, extremely difficult course if you are not a good writer, she seems to grade her essays very strictly and some test questions can be very vague.
I loved this professor! She knew her stuff, was up front with her opinions, funny, and was extremly fair. Her tests are all online, but she does ask a lot of picky details. Her papers are simple to write and as long as you include what she asks for, you'll get an A. I would love to take another one of her classes.
Lectures and notes don't follow too well with the book and she makes you read a lot.
This professor rocks. All of her tests are online and follow the book completely. Class is mandatory but is a really easy part of your grade. She is hilarious nd will love you if you have somewhat of a brain. I've had her twice now and still love her.
Dr. Farless teaches History with the excitement and vigor that one usually reserves for national championship titles and winning the lottery. This may be appealing if you're interested in history. However, for those of us who really can't relate to her enthusiasm, the lectures can be a bit tiring. Also, she has a bad habit of over explaining things.
Good Prof. Hard on grading essays, must be a good writer to get a good grade, 6 grades, 4 essays and midterm and final. the tests are hard and they are not on memorization they are on if your understand it. she wants you to analyza everything. helps out if you ask and is good class if you are a good writer. she gives extra credit.
Professor Farless is an EXCELLENT teacher! Let me tell you she knows her stuff back and forth. As for her grading there are 4 essays, a midterm and final. She grades her essays particularly hard and the midterm and final are challenging. She really wants her students to learn not to just memorize which makes her great techer.ANALYZE IN YOUR ESSAYS!
Great professor. Very kind woman. However, gave little input as to paper quality/ways to improve. Tests were open note/book and online at home. Very easy!
Very knowledgeable woman, but is a hard class, especially if you are not a great essay writer. I wouldn't recommend taking this prof if you are not a strong writer and are better at taking tests, but if you are not worried about a grade, and simply want to learn, she knows her stuff!
Professor Farless truly loves history, and shows it in her lectures. Two test, a mid term and a final that are hard! and then 4 Essays... attend class and do well on the essays and you will do decent! she is hard, but she lectures well!
She was VERY helpful and her teaching was VERY organized. It was one of those classes where even though it was mandatory, you wanted to be there. It never felt like there was a wasted class. There's just ALOT of work. It's not too hard in content just hard to keep up with.
Farless is awesome. She knows her history like the back of her hand. Very helpful and actually cares about students' learning. It may take some work (reading, weekly assignments, the assignments you're graded on varies from each class sect)but an A is doable. Farless is awesome - take her.
do not get this teacher way to hard. Makes you read a ton. mandatroy attendance and some boring lectures.
Very hard class. Four major essays with weekly quizzes. Tough grader for quizzes & you have to read A LOT! Probably wouldn't take this class over, attendance is mandatory but pointless because I didn't learn anything.
I CAN NOT STAND HER!!! She is extremely difficult & thinks that just because she is obsessed with history, we should be a genious & be obsessed too. Her tests are absolutely impossible and her grading is awful! I studied & failed the tests & if you dont participate she goes nuts! Please do not take her and do yourself a favor!
She is just the best, nice and smart. I took her for two classes, and I learned a lot, she is very helpful, alot of reading but is history...so, I will take her again if I have the oportunity I hate reading and I got A in both of my classes with her. TAKE HER
This is a VERY difficult class for those of us that are not history majors. She makes really hard quizzes for every chapter in the book and if you aren't very well versed in history, her lectures are very hard to follow because she goes so fast that you can't even keep up. I withdrew because the class was so stressful and difficult!
Not as bad as some here make her out to be. Weekly quizes, 1 midterm, and final are hard but they're open book/notes. Extra points are sometimes given for "bad questions". 3 or 4 essays but they're no harder than ENC 1101/1102. Notes are online so just print them out before class so you don't have to worry if she goes too fast. Overall a good class
She is difficult && I wouldn't want to take her again. The person below me said it well, though. Everything is online, so it's easy to "cheat." She has everything timed, however, so it's not quite so simple. My suggestion: take it with a friend. My roommate and I take the quizzes and tests together, which has helped our grade exponentially.
I LOVED her. Her class was challenging, but in a good way. Quizes, mid-term, and final are all online, so you can use your textbook. Essays are hard, but not impossible if you follow her guidelines and analyze properly. :]
She's a pretty tough teacher. You can use the book for your quizzes, midterm, and final. I thought the essays were (which require specific sources from the textbook, Out of Many book, My History Lab, and her Lectures). I actually enjoyed the class because she really went into depth and desired us to succeed. I recommend her for American History.
If you're looking for a high-school teacher, you've got the right one. she takes attendance every day and it is part of your final grade, she walks around the room while teaching and will call anyone out that is on the phone, talking, or sleeping. She is horribly boring and made me regret ever signing up for her class.
She's a great teacher and knows just what she's talking about. It's a class where you def. have to work for your grade-- weekly quizzes, 3 essays, and a midterm and final. But she's extremely helpful and a great professor.
She does love history. But if you dont remeber everything there is to know about history you will be called out on it! Shes uses clickers to ask ?'s if you get it wrong she loves to threaten to point u out weekly quizzes sometimes 2 a week. Three essays, fairly easy, and an open book midterm and final. Weekly quizzes help on both midterm and final.
very hard grader.. hated going to class. would not recommend her. take someone else.. repeates herself a lot, annoying
This class will kick your butt if you're not a diligent person. Farless rocks as a lecturer, and really tests you hard. Good course for those who are committed to studying and doing things the right way.
Professor Farless is super helpful and responds quickly to students' emails... I took the online class and learned a lot... 2 essays and 3 tests w/ some postings required. She is a very fair professor, but it's not an easy class - you'll have to study and really apply yourself to get an A.
Probably the hardest class i've ever taken in my entire life, but if you work hard, you will be rewarded. I'm really horrible at history and got really low grades on most everything, but I visited her during office hours alot and somehow scraped by with an A. Show her you want the grade and you'll be rewarded.
Even though the class is hard, Professor Farless is great. You have to read the book and show up to class. Her quizzes are extremely difficult but are helpful for the tests. The essays are tough, so make sure you don't wait until the last minute to do them. Just read the book and study her notes and you will pass this course.
Prof. Farless really knows her stuff. The class is all lecture and she does take the full class time. Power points are online, attendance was not mandatory, tests are timed and online. Your grade is basically three essays and three tests. Essays are really involved and the test are not that easy. Over all, not that bad,but its hard!
Mixed feelings about the class and P. Farless. She definitely knows what she is talking about, but her lectures can often time leave you zoning out and lost. She gives you three essays and three exams. Exams are relatively easy as long as you read, same with essays. She gives a lot of extra credit throughout semester.
I found this class to be pretty easy. Exams are online, so make use of the index in the textbook and online sources as needed. Powerpoints are online, so if you know what you are doing, you really don't need to go to class. I would have aced this class easy if I had put more than an hours worth of work into each essay. Your results may vary.
I hated this class. It was supposed to be a plain American History class but Farless decided to put an environmental spin on it. If I wanted to take American Environmental History, I would have. All 3 essays focused entirely on environmental stuff, and were graded very harshly (this is a gen ed class, it shouldn't be this hard!)
Try to avoid this professor, you get 3 essays(1400 words each) and 3 tests. Random questions on the test, that you would not think you would have to actually memorize. Attendance mandatory through a sign in sheet that counts as a participation grade. Lectures are mind numbing. Not the class for you, if you are looking for an easy grade.
Definitely don't take her class. She lectures and acts like she owns the world. She rants about how people don't respect historians and they're boring. I wonder why..She has powerpoints but the test questions have nothing to do with the lectures and the essays r impossible to get over a B with her grading scale.
Great professor. Lectures are interesting and she throws in some humor to keep you on your toes. She gives two tests and a couple of papers. Tests are online and are easy as long as you have the book handy. The essays are annoying, but the topics are rather easy and she is a very fair grader. Loves teaching and makes you want to go to class. Easy A
Although she is very passionate about teaching and history, this class is honestly impossible to get a good grade on. I'm a straight A student and got a C in this class. Even though the tests are online, it doesn't matter at all because the questions so difficult even if you had an hour to take the test it wouldn't make a difference.
Not that bad of a class as long as you keep up with the work. There is a ton of reading, you read the entire book, but there are only two exams both are open notes and you have chances to take each twice. Also two essays for the semester, but they aren't that bad. As long as you stay on top of the textbook reading as well as the primary documents.
A historian who knows a lot, but is not a good teacher. She is rude and puts students down regularly. 2 tests, 2 papers and 4 quizzes. No extra credit. Avoid her if possible.
Great teacher, wonderful lady. All it takes is EFFORT to do well in her class. She wont hand you a good grade, but will do everything in her power to help you get the grade you want. Extra credit is available, as well as other grade boosters. Reading and attending class are essential if you plan on doing any better than a C.
I wouldn't recommend her. Just take Edith Macdonald and your life will be carefree.
I recommend Farless. 4 analytical essays-need to put effort into them.(Take notes and use her lectures in essays to do well.) No quizes (as long as you keep up with the reading - she knows). 2 tests - midterm & final (online, can take the test twice - she takes the better score). Offers A LOT of EC (as long as your class doesn't cheat). My Grade-A.
Her essay's are stressful (you don't know what she's looking for), pretty much a hit or miss. Tests- directly from the book- ask questions about a completely obscure part of the chapter, but they're online so you can use the book. I diligently read the book for the 1st two test, got a B on both. Didn't read AT ALL for the last two, got a B on both.
Very condescending. Spent time embarassing kids who didnt pay attention thus rewarding my attentiveness by wasting my time. The first test was brutally hard youd have to all but memorize the entire text for an A. You need to write good papers to make up it. At least attendance isnt required. I got an A and love history but still disliked her class
I took her over the summer (12 weeks) online. Her exams were like others mentioned, directly out of the book, but obscure sections. Her essays were impossible to know what she really wanted. Seemed more interested in how it was written rather than the material presented itself. I would not recommend her. I love history, hate her class.
Took this class online, it was fairly easy. I haven't taken it in class, but I wouldn't recommend it as tests are rather obscure. Essay and discussion directions were rather vague, but she grades fairly easily and gives a good deal of extra credit. You can definitely get an A if you do all the work and take advantage of extra credit.
Farless is a good professor. I enjoyed her class. I was in a mixed mode section, so all the assignments were online. Lectures were optional, but I would recommend going. She is funny and very knowledgable. Always available for help when you need her. Textbook mandatory - you will use it! Grade based on exams, essays, quizzes and responses.
I took her mix mode class and it was not hard, but very time consuming. there is a quiz every weekend, 3 exams, and the final is the just another exam. There are 3 questions that you makeup and 3 responses (minimum 500 words) that have to be completed before the semester ends. Must have the book. Class not mandatory, but does not accept late work.
Great professor. Attendance isn't mandatory but its incredibly helpful for the essays. I went to her lectures for support and analysis for my essays and used the textbook for tests. we had online tests and i would re read the chapters before taking the tests. i received an A in the class. You must put forth effort.
Somehow, I still managed an A in her class even though I missed a bunch of class meetings. You can tell that she enjoys history because she is so passionate in teaching us! Also, she wants everyone to be engaging and get involved in random little discussions about some of the material she teaches, which is really helpful.
She's an okay professor. Very weird, but some people like that. You really don't have to attend class, everything is online. When I did attend class, I wish I hadn't. If you read the book you WILL get an A. But if you turn in something late, she WILL not accept it. She's not lenient with the rules of her class, so I'm ending up with a C.
She's very knowledgable but her lectures weren't helpful. As long as you read the book and keep up with deadlines you'll pass! But as far as going to class it's not mandatory. Just keep her happy in class and she'll be easy going. Don't piss her off or she will make the class harder!
Professor Farless KNOWS HER STUFF!! She is a no nonsense type of person, pretty black and white about what she expects! She lectures from the beginning to the end of class, with some interactive class participation. Exams and quizzes are easy ONLY if you READ! BOOKS ARE NEEDED without them forget even thinking about passing the course. MUST READ!!
I have learned more in this class than in any other course. Those who don't like her simply are too lazy to put in the work. She is extremely helpful and very clear with directions and offers a good amount of extra credit. 3 essays, 3 tests and a few quizzes. I thoroughly enjoyed this course and would highly recommend it to those with work ethic.
I absolutely hate history. This class didn't change my mind about that. Prof Farless is really tough, and requires a lot of you as a student. Essays are difficult, so are the exams. I thought she was extremely boring, and found it hard to pay attention in class, but then again I hate history. I don't recommend Farless if you aren't into history.
Not difficult but not easy. Class isn't mandatory but you need to cite the lecture in the essays. The tests are really hard, but they follow the book.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF!The book is a must and you must read the whole thing. The tests were very hard and all of the questions were from the book. The only reason to go to class is for the essays because you have to site her lectures at least once. Also your not aloud to use any outside sources for the essays, you can only use the textbooks(2 books)
Awesome Professor. She really gets the class involved. yes you have to read...its ahistory class. Those who do not like her are just lazy and are not in class for the information. She is fun, intelligent and is passionate about history. She makes a large class seem more personable. All essays and tests are relevent to the material in class
The assignments are graded too harshly. She is contradictory of herself. Great in communication though. If you can write the papers how she wants them written then you'll do fine. Don't expect to get A's on the written assignments even if you put a lot of work into them. Good other than that though. Tests correlate with the book really well.
This professor's class is very hard. Three essays based off her lecture and the book only are worth 65& of the class and she is a harsh grader! Tests are only worth 35% so if you do well on the tests and not the essays you still fail. DO NOT TAKE HER unless you're really good at writing 1400 to 2000 word history essays.
Have to buy 3 textbooks (ridiculous). The essays are very harshly graded because you are NEVER "using the sources effectively". Test are online and open book but you barely have enough time to complete if you look up every answer, not to mention, when you look them up, they aren't even in the book because she wants you to analyze everything!
Prof. Farless is pretty good, offered a lot of extra credit in the class. The main thing people don't like is that you have to talk in class at least 10 times in order to get participation points. She wastes a lot of time talking about non sense. I only have an A, because of the extra crediy
Farless is a great professor, but very strict. She grades essays very harshly, but offers a lot of extra credit. She is enthusiastic and fun, and assigns interesting work. All three textbooks are mandatory since you use all of them in the essays. Exams are online/open book, but extremely difficult. You can't afford to miss any assignment.
she is a great teacher very enthusiastic and her lectures are interesting. She explains what you need to know very well. I always felt prepared for assignments. Participation points are available and can help a lot and there are other ways to make up for them if you don’t like talking in class.
This class was an easy A as long as you are willing to do the work. Reading before class to participate, going to class to get notes for the papers, reading for the tests, and writing the papers. She gave my class A LOT of opportunities to get points. And her grading system makes is easy to still get an A even if you don't do very well on a test.
Easily the best class of my first semester of college. Professor Farless is passionate, and is crystal-clear with her students about homework, tests, etc. Very little busy work, most of your grade is based on essays and tests, with lots of extra credit. As long as you go to class and do the work asked of you, you will get an A.
Prof was disorganized and boring. She knows her stuff but talks in circles during lecture which made the material confusing for the most part. I wouldn't take a class with her and won't be taking another.
Professor Farless is very passionate about AMH, and really knows her stuff, which makes the class very interesting. She doesn't give much homework at all, except for a few assignments. Gives TONS of extra credit opportunities, online tests/quizzes/final, and you only have to write 4 papers the whole semester, gives about 10 chances to do so.
The work is not a lot but it can I guess it can be somewhat challenging if you're super lazy. I got an A no problem. There are 4 essays 500 words, a few online exams that are open book. Attendance is not mandatory but you must use her lecture as a source for your essays. TONS of extra credit opportunities.
I'll give it straight up. If you're on this site looking for an easy professor for history, then don't take Farless. To get a good grade you definitely have to work hard. Farless is probably one of the most difficult professors you can take for history. However you'll probably learn the most from her if you do the work. Which isn't easy!
The tests are extremely hard. They are very specific details from the book. If you are not willing to take the time to read & know the material you will not do well on the tests. Lecture is mandatory to go to b/c you have to cite her lecture in your essays and you have to earn participation points. Lectures have nothing to do with the tests though.
This class isn't too bad... The essays are time consuming, but if you go to class she basically goes over them for you. The tests were online and quite hard... be prepared to be frustrated, they are very specific, not impossible, but difficult.
Farless is super knowledgable in History and you can tell when she is lecturing. Because of that, however, she tends to get off-track which makes attending class somewhat annoying/boring. Essays need to be well-written, so do your best. Tests aren't hard. Lots of extra-credit. Attend lecture to get information on essays & you NEED the books!
The class wasn't too bad, but her lectures don't exactly follow her notes and the tests don't really reflect the notes either. The tests are online.. so if you take this class, take advantage of that. The textbooks are only needed for the essays (which she always pushes the due date on). Not a hard class, just time consuming.
People who didn't like this class are flat out lazy. You don't have to go to class. There are four 500 word essays (10 chances to do them) and ONLINE exams. You do have to buy all the textbooks. LOTS OF EXTRA CREDIT. Do the work and you'll get an A.
constantly contradicts herself when telling you what to do. Dont expect to get full credit on essays because you "never use sources efficiently". very picky on every assignment. Also, not very helpful to students. literally got upset because students turned in essays "too early" prior to the deadline. Take someone else!
You have to buy 3 books. She calls people out during class and if you don't know the answer, she will penalize you. I haven't been to class since I saw that happen. Only 3 essays, one long (1000-1500 words) 2 short (500 words). Her tests are online. pretty easy to pass if you read the information on your own.
To be honest Dr. Farless is not the easiest instructor in the world. However, she has a true passion for history and truly does an amazing job in her lectures. She did get upset about the early essay as she hadnt covered all of the material. The people who complain obviously do not attend class and therefore grade suffers. Take her class and go!!
She grades essays kind of harshly in my opinion. First essay is easy though. Go to class, the only reason I got an A was because I got 50 points of extra credit from talking in class. I never really read any of the chapters though but they are necessary for the essays. Just put in some effort, the A is possible.
she offers ridiculous amounts of extra credit but then grades essays EXTREMELY HARSHLY, I had the TA grade my papers and she constantly gave the same feedback no matter how much I changed. I consider myself a good writer and I had a decent amount of trouble on the essays.
She is a great professor. You need to buy the books because youll have to read them for sources. She gives LOTS of extra credit so you dont have to be perfect in this class to get an A.
Harsh Grader. Class was not mandatory, however her essays were highly lecture based. So if you did not get the notes for classes missed, the essays were VERY difficult to write. If you did not use her lectures, you essay would be penalized. Tests were online, so they were not too difficult but they were timed. Take with someone else
I took AMH 2010 during Summer C thinking it would be a breeze because it was an humanities class.. Boy was I wrong! This class is pretty difficult, but it is a golden rule class so perhaps that is why. All of her assignments are textbook based, you cannot cite outside sources. Fairly simple class, with few assignments. 3 Essays, 1 project.READREAD!
Grades really harshly. I asked specifics on what I needed to cover for my final essay and I spent 4 days writing it and covered everything head to toe and she gave me a low c. She is also very rude when you email her with questions.
I took this class this fall and ended up having to withdraw from it because she failed me on an essay. She's a really hard grader which I wasn't expecting. A friend of mine warned me not to take this class but I did anyways cause I wanted the challenge and I usually don't listen to people about professors. I would highly recommend to not take her.
DON'T TAKE THIS PROFESSOR UNLESS YOU REALLY LIKE HISTORY. SHE MAKE UP HER OWN TEST AND WORD THEM IN A WAY ITS GOING TO BE HARD TO LOOK. YOU WILL BE READING FOR DAYS!!!! I DO NOT RECOMMEND HER!
While she is a bit tough on essays, she gives so many hints on what to talk about in the essays during class and offers ridiculous amounts of extra credit (I currently have 35 points). Exams are all online and you get 2 attempts. Quite frankly, most people complaining about her probably didn't try too hard. Put some effort in and the A is yours.
She is very knowledgeable about American history and is very passionate when she teaches. She extends her office hours the week that an assignment is due and offers online chat sessions as well. All exams are online, with two attempts. Three papers and a movie critque. Class is not mandatory but extra credit is given to those who participate.
She is an extremely tough grader, but makes up for it with the amount of extra credit she offers. She encourages participation, and essays comprise a larger part of the grade than tests. Tests are not bad if you read the textbook and pay attention in class. Class is technically not mandatory, but it is recommended to go for the info for the essays.
Farless is an overall good professor. The material she covers is relative to her tests and assignments. Attendance is not mandatory, but HIGHLY recommended. In class she will explain what she wants for her papers, and her papers outweigh tests 3:1. She has plenty of extra-credit, and is very flexible to meet you for help on assignments.
Farless is an amazing teacher- passionate about History and her students. She wants students to work for the grade they deserve and won't budge when "giving" a grade. MUST read the book for the tests and highly recommend going to class for the sake of essays (Essays are worth 3 times one test, but they aren't hard if you paid attention in class).
This class is A LOT of work but Professor Farless is very clear on what she wants. She gives several, very long essays and grades harshly but also gives a ton of extra credit and chances at improving your grade. Not difficult to get an A if you're willing to work hard.
Prof. Farless is such a passionate historian and she really portrays that through her lectures. Tests are online and based heavily on the textbook. Essays (3) are 750-1000 words, not bad. This class really made me feel as though I was progressing as a writer and historical document analyst. She is willing to help students in any way she can.
Make sure you're there for class because you need the lectures for the essays. You definitely need the textbook.
Not for the weak or lazy, definitely need to put forth effort. It's Gordon Rule, so LOTS of writing, essays are the worst part, tons of reading and analyzing, but not hard at all, just takes time. Exams and quizzes online, lots of opportunities for extra credit.
Worst professor I have had. She will grade your essays very harshly and will not give good feedback so you will never know what to fix about them. I took her even after seeing many bad reviews on here and it was the worst decision I have ever made. She gave many people zeros on the essays so they failed out. DO NOT TAKE HER!!!
WORST PROFESSOR EVER. If you want to fail, go ahead and take her. She will not help you through anything. She enjoyed seeing people fail it seemed like. Of my 2.5 years at UCF she was the worst professor I have ever had.
This class was demanding work wise but overall Prof. Farless was a great teacher who would be willing to help you out the best way she can. Make sure to keep up with the reading and her lectures and you will be fine. Her office hours helped me a lot in understanding her essays and gather more information, make use of them they're there to help.
Her tests were mostly from the text book while the essays were directly from her lectures. Also, essay directions were kind of confusing but going to her office hours helps ALOT! There were a lot of extra credit opportunities but do not rely on them because they came up out of the blue sometimes and aren't guaranteed. Lectures were boring to me.
I took this class over Summer A, and I thought I'd have to do work all summer long, but it wasn't so bad. Her quizzes are difficult but if you search for the terms from the modules and textbook it makes it easier. She does require 4 essays so its time consuming. Overall, I had a high B, but she dropped some quizzes out and I ended up with an A.
Farless is an AMAZING professor who really knows what she is talking about. You have to read the textbook for the exams and all essays are based off of her lectures. It's difficult and requires effort, but if you take the time, she is there to help you to make sure you succeed. She is very passionate about her job.
Prof Farless is so passionate and knowledgeable about the topics she teaches so it make lectures interesting and seem to fly by. Your tests are online, therefore they are open note, open book and she gives two attempts with a curve. We had three papers but you have to attend lecture to get information for these. Gave extra credit for going to class
Farless comes off pretty strong but she is a fantastic teacher. She tends to jump around sometimes but you will know the information well by the end of the semester. Her tests are easy and, so long as you use all your resources to write your essays, the essays are easy as well. I would definitely take her again for AMH. She does give extra credit!
I learned so much in her class. I took her special topics: Women, Law and Society in American History. There's a lot of reading but what she chooses for the readings are very interesting. The midterm was easy if you read the material. Each week you either write a question, answer one or critique. One research paper of your choosing. Take her!
Its a writing class, you will write 4-5 papers. 750-1000 words may not seem long to you, but she hates summarizing and wants more analyzing. The textbooks are necessary because you have to cite everything and use them in your essay. She loves to give bonus points in class but lecture is long. Take another class if you hate writing.
Taken over Summer C. Had three quizzes due on father's day that I missed bc they didn't show up when she changed the due dates and refused to work with me on retaking them. I had to withdraw. Rude when you email her with questions. Changes due dates all the time. Very picky & arbitrary grader. Deducts points of your submission is 30 seconds late.
Hated this class. I took this class over summer C online. 12 quizzes (only counts 10), 2 exams, 3 essays, and a bunch of stupid random assignments. So much reading and her questions are so detailed its ridiculous. History is my worst subject, so it made taking this class even harder. I either finished with an A, A-, or B+, waiting on my grade
Professor Farless made her online AMH2010 course very interactive and you can tell that she cares about her students. I had a family emergency and she was extremely understanding. You need the textbook for the essays and quizzes/tests. You can't just wing those without reading. She's a tough grader but her feedback allows you to correct mistakes.
Eh.... it was alright.
Lectures are awful, I don't learn a thing. Assignments are stupid. Let's a TA grade essays which are major part of grade. AVOID TAKING.
Well she started doing this museum project this semester. In this assigmmnet you have to create a museum exhbit. The problem with this is that they have to fit in the scope of the class 1877 back. She says to use online exhibits but they're almost all payed for. She takes weeks to grade assignments. DONT DO IT!
She lectures about essentially one thing the entire class, so you really don't learn much. There are two essays for the semester, which are some of the hardest essay prompts ever.. The essays need to be based off primary sources and her lectures, but her lectures are pointless. Also, her tests have nothing to do with what you learn in class.
Professor Farless is such an amazing woman. She loves what she does and it shines through in her teaching style. Many bumps have come up in the road this semester but she has been very flexible with her students and availability so that we always have access to help if we need it. She makes history so enjoyable that the 1 hr 15 mins flies by w her.
Great professor for American History. She's a tough grader and there are lots of papers to write, but the energy she brings to every lecture just makes it so much more engaging. I was far more interested in this class than any other History class solely because of her personality and how she talked to the class. Very engaging class.
The only thing hard are her exams, her lectures did not prepare you well. However, she is incredibly helpful, she was even willing to have a 30 minute phone call with me on a Sunday because I needed help. Super passionate, super caring, overall an incredible professor. READ READ READ, it will help you so much, and take good notes.
Professor Farless is an excellent professor! Readings are a little heavy. Exams are pretty tough. Sometimes lectures stray from structure. However, the readings are interesting. Study guides are provided. Lectures are engaging and Powerpoint lectures are emailed to you. Though its somewhat challenging, you will learn and enjoy.
Although Professor Farless is a good professor and provides good feedback (when you can actually get a hold of her)... she is SUCH a tough grader. I ended up with a B and had to work for it. I put hours into responses and felt really confident only to end up with a mediocre grade and useless feedback. Avoid if possible for online class!
Professor Farless is a very cool teacher and very into history. But is a very hard grader even if you spend hours upon hours working on essays. Good luck is all I have to say if she is your professor.
Professor Farless is a good professor in the sense she knows what she is talking about and is very passionate. Unfortunately she is a very tough grader and doesn't give the clearest grading criteria. Go to her office hours and she will help you out as much as you need. That will really raise your grade and she is good help-always happy to.
Professor Farless was an okay teacher. I thought I was going to fail but ended up with a passing grade. She drops a major assignment if you fail one. Make sure you go to office hours because she explains assignments every weird and confusing.
She is beyond fair and helpful! She genuinely wants people to succeed. There's a lot of reading but that should be expected and she is a fair grader if you put in the effort to write something at college level. She will always give feedback and do whatever possible to make sure everyone understands what is going on. Amazing, would take again
There isn't a single question in class that isn't on Quizlet. Teacher encourages cheating!
Farless is knowledgable and nice. She is a fair grader if you pay attention to instructions, cite correctly, and put some effort into writing at a college level. My biggest complaint about this class is the way it's structured. The students run the class (you write your own discussion questions, answers, and test questions). I didn't learn anything
You have to either create a question or respond to a question (min 650 words) each week. She is a very tough grader and cares more about your citing than what you write. There is also one or two quizzes every week. You need the books in order to cite the text. It wasn't that bad, she's just a really tough grader and is vague in her feedback.
Dr. Farless is amazing. Even though it is an online class, she really tries to get to know her students. She holds weekly chat sessions that are open to everyone and discusses course topics along with course housekeeping. Discussion-based class. Have the option of not submitting every single week. Gives extra credit where she can.
Great teacher. Tough grader, but works with you to make sure you know why you got what you got. A lot of reading, but you can pass by with just skimming. Definitely cares about her students and is always there to help when she can. Love that she does web conferences weekly to address her class more personally. Not a lot of online teachers do that.
ONLINE Very doable GEP course at UCF. Received an A without having to invest an insane amount of time. I couldn't recommend Prof. Farless for AMH 2010 more highly.
Professor Farless is a very kind, caring professor although an extremely tough grader. Took online, two tests, two essays and she grades the essays very intense. Citing is key in this class. If you are a good essay writer / know a lot about history it will be easy.
Professor Farless is pretty straight forward. In total, I think there was 5 major assignments: 3 exams & 2 essays. The other assignments were for extra credit purposes. However, I got basic feedback on essays. I scored high Bs on every assignment & ended with an A. You do need the textbook for citing purposes. Easy class online in my opinion.
The class was a peace of cake. All the exam questions can be found online and there were two essays for the whole six week period. The two teachers care a lot about citations so make sure they are correct but they make it pretty hard for you to get it wrong as they give you guides on how to cite. Anyways, it was an easy A, I'm glad I took it.
Professor Farless's history class was straight to the point and easy.I personally do not like history but this class made it easy to get an A because of the extra credit given! She gives 3 exams which are on quizlet and gives you two attempts on each one!She assigns two papers each 650-750 words! This class was easy to take online during the summer!
Straight forward class. You do inquizitive activities weekly which are guaranteed A's if you answer enough questions. There are two papers and they aren't too difficult as long as you put the effort into them. The exam answers are on quizlet. She holds conferences online where she explains assignments and gives updates. Would recommend
BASICALLY the class is run by her TA who is EXTREMELY rude and has IMPOSSIBLE expectations for your essays. The only time I ever hear from Dr. Farless is through emails about the class. She grades nothing. I definitely do NOT recommend taking her class unless you want to feel belittled by someone who has no business grading your assignments.
Does bare minimum. Lazy and contradicts herself im her own assignments. Does not pay attention to what is submitted and contradicts herself when she reviews papers. Positive feedbacks have to be fake. Uncaring and not very professional. confusing grading for assignments
As previous poster said, constantly contradicting expectations for papers. Slow grader, gives vague submission comments to where you cant improve. Makes you pick topic for semester long paper at start before you learn anything about class topics. If you want an A it is almost impossible if you follow directions to the tee youll get an 87 at best.
The last person to comment on her performance pretty much summed up my entire experience in this class. The most infuriating part is how she grades and leaves passive aggressive comments on your work that contradict her own directions for the assignments. She also makes you do all the work. There are no prompts for discussions or essays. She's BAD.
Excellent prof who makes history fun with projects. Feedback is brief but she and Ms. Oneil will explain things over email if you just ask. This class made me take responsibility for my own grade rather than just coast by. I think some of the previous commenters were just lazy, because this class is definitely possible if you just try.
Not an easy A but worth it if you actually want to learn something. It was nice not having essays in a history class. The feedback wasn't very helpful but it wasn't hard to do well on the projects. Lots of extra credit.
Professor Farless herself is a very nice and involved professor. Problem is, she uses TA's with major attitude and who grade so tough it is almost near impossible to squeak out with an A in her class. Feedback is not clear and assignments seem to be graded by a different set of criteria than set out . I would not take another class from her.
Professor Farless is not nearly as bad as previous reviews lead you to believe. Honestly, getting an A in her class is not difficult. It takes effort, however between the light assignments literally geared towards boosting your grade along with study guides provided for every single test, there is no real reason not to do well other than laziness.
I was actually very excited to take this class in the beginning because it seemed informational and interesting. But, the TAs who grade essays are typically very passive aggressive and unhelpful in regard to the feedback they give. The grading criteria is clear but the TAs dont follow it so they will dock your grade majorly. TAs make it harder.
Her class was very interesting. Professor is very passionate about what she teaches her students. She does want to make sure everyone is participating. Teacher wants to see you pass, there to help. LOTS of reading! If you have a job, and you are taking 3 other classes, it is tough to always finish all the assigned readings.
The majority of the assignments given make absolutely no sense. Her directions are so confusing and she was not helpful when I emailed her to tell her that I didn't understand her instructions. The only plus to this class was that I was able to pass because I got good grades on the quizzes and exams, and tried my best on the other assignments.
She is honestly so unsympathetic I took her class in the spring semester and had an emergency come up and missed a few things. I was unable to make up the grade had to receive almost perfect grades to reach the grade i finished her class with. She uses inquizitive so quizlet is your bff. If you try you will pass but just don't expect any sympathy
Good - easy class/1 day response to email/clear expectations/fair grader Bad - class is juvenile/H.S. like in structure yet still too much work (same as 3000+ level). I cant stress this enough, too much work for 2000 level class. Text + extra reading and tons of work/assignments on ridiculous (again childlike) projects, 3 tests, a few discussions
Professor Farless is a very nice professor, who held open office hours each week. However, I had a few issues with the class. She is a very tough grader, which is her right, but it makes it difficult to get an A. The class assignments were EXTREMELY repetitive and boring. One of the required textbooks was never used. Not even once.
Weekly discussion and one quiz on reading materials, some minor writing assignments per week, and a service-learning (volunteer) project. She's accessible and as long as you read the materials you'll do fine. She gives you the resources you need to better figure out what to do with your history major. For my first time taking her, she wasn't bad.
I took this professor for AMH 2010 as well and had issues, so why did I take her again? I can't say. Class assignments were very repetitive and tests were difficult. Tough grader without detailed feedback. Very accessible.
Took her woman's studies. Regretted it! waaaay to many "filler" assignments. a tough grader, makes you do 5 responses the semester to a student's question and it has to be a minimum of 650 words worth 100 pts. terrible did not enjoy this class one bit! multiple things were due EVERY week, you do not get a break.
Pretty good
AVOID THIS CLASS! If I would have known this was a collaborative course, I would have dropped it immediately. She assigned this horrible Constitutional Convention game which is not only extremely confusing and disorganized to where no one understands what is going on, but when you ask for help, she's vague and delayed. Too much even for upper class
Be aware this was a group project course and I unfortunately haven't learned much from this class because she puts so much emphasis on a stupid semester game no one understands and a research paper with vague and conflicting instructions and hard grading. I wasted my time and money on this class. Farless is great as a counselor but NOT a professor.
Shes the worst, coming from a mainly online student who usually gets As. She expects you to count up your own grade, doesnt use webcourses. Assigns essays and group projects then never grades it on time. Lets you pick your own research topic then penalizes you for not changing it to what she wants halfway through. Terrible with group projects.
I have a 4.0 average and she nearly killed it. Game of Constitutional Convention could have been awesome but the instructions were unclear, depth of participation unclear, grading unclear, everything about this course was in disarray. Wait forever for grades so you don't know if you're doing well.
Both the midterm and final were a group project which was super hard to do in an online setting. My group members didn't answer until the night before it was due (which I'm not at all blaming the professor for) and it made me frustrated with the grading system of the class. Overall enjoyed but definitely do the readings.
For a history class, this was surprisingly easy. Prof always gave good feedback and took the time to reply to your messages. I would take again.
I cannot recommend Professer Farless enough. She is a phenomenal professer, who gives amazing, detailed feedback. She's really good at constructive criticism. If you take what she suggests or critics and apply it, she notices your efforts. A LOT of assignments and weekly discussion posts, but it's doable and worth it.
Be careful about due dates because assignments are not listed chronologically. However, she writes great lectures and appreciates thoughtful participation. Follow instructions, read the textbook, pick a topic you like for the research project, and show that you paid attention in your discussion posts and you'll get an A.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. She is a harsh grader and never gets back to student's emails and concerns. There are several small papers that make up the majority of your grade and a useless game in the middle to end of the semester. This class also has 3 required books.
Farless is a great professor. She genuinely wants you to succeed. There are a lot of assignments in this class but nothing over the top and she has her course set so it helps you set up your professional portfolio which is extremely helpful. She gives good feedback and isn't a difficult but fair grader. I would take her again.
Absolutely loved Farless! Her class = weekly discussions, class split in 2 groups and alternate asking questions and answering the questions created by the other group. Interesting roleplaying game that got canceled bc other students didn't like it so she cares abt feedback. Long small group research project of your choice topic. Would take again!
There is an unbelievable amount of homework. I had to make a website portfolio and then write a 500-word reflection as to why I chose Wix to build my website. So much pointless busy work. None of it is hard but feels like a waste of time. Should not be my hardest class. I will say it is nice that you get a 3-day grace period on every assignment.
This class has a LOT of assignments. It's very easy to do well and nothing is difficult, but it's extremely tedious to keep up with and a LOT of busywork. She is very responsive and easy to work with and will adjust the schedule as necessary to keep everyone on pace. She also offers a few extra credit points here and there to help out.
Lots of assignments, but Professor Farless is great - super responsive and helpful. The workload is doable with unstuckstudy ai and the textbook. Definitely worth taking if you need the credits.
Loved taking this class with Prof. Farless! Lots of reading and online lectures available. Decent amount of assignments, but not so much so that the course was ever overwhelming. Prof. Farless was super helpful, quick to answer any questions, and gave great feedback on assignments. Highly highly recommend!
Very knowledgeable and helpful but unless you reach out there will be no interaction between student and professor. It's readings and responding to other students for the entire semester. I struggled to complete objectives and learn each week, felt too solo and needed guidance. Big research project that is majority of grade. Slow grader.
Professor Farless is very positive and encouraging if you do good work, but lots of assignments. There were about 30 assignments for this class and 3 textbooks to read. She gives a 3 day grace period on most of them but you lose points, so I would advise against taking advantage of it too much.
This semester Dr. Farless was a little more tolerant and lenient with me in some aspects. However, two of the textbooks we were supposed to use she didn't even mention in her discussions, readings, or even for use within our final papers or projects. Or and I'm warning you she uses StoryMap for her projects so be prepared for that.
