Awsome teacher! I took her interpersonal communications class and absolutely loved it! She's clear,understanding, personal, and all that good stuff. Excellent for communications majors, but recommended for all.

She teaches almost every comm class there is. She's really nice and cares about her students. Never has anything bad to say.

Doesn't videotape. Very compassionate, almost motherly, understands speech is the hardest class for many students. Talks you thru in soothing manner if you 'freeze'! 4 speeches, 2 tests.

Ferguson is not only entertaining and funny, but she is extremely passionate about teaching. I took a learning community w/ her my 1st semester; she was a wonderful mentor and friend during a rough period in my life. TAKE HER CLASS--YOU WON"T REGRET

i love her! ok so u have 4 speeches & 2 tests the speeches are very easy even if u hate giving speeches..so do i! :) remember that all the other kids in the class don't want to give their speech either... she is always smiling at u which makes you feel like u r doin a good job..that makes it easier

Mrs. Ferguson is awshum! i really didnt want to be in speech101, but as we all know its required. i heard horror stories all throughout the halls of speech class -- you have to dress up and be video recorded etc. Mrs Ferguson takes away all the fear! :] much luv!

She was really helpful and she made you feel comfortable and not as nervous before you had to give your speech. Very Easy just listen to her comments and suggestions. Easy A!

she is such a sweet heart. she is true to her grading though. if you wrote your speech the night before... dont expect an A. she can see right through you. but i never wanted to miss her class. loved it. and she loves dogs. which is so cute!

She is the best instructor I have ever had - engaging, fun, interesting, makes giving speeches (yuck in general) almost tolerable. I feel like I am much more inclined to brave the public speaking world because of my experiences in her class. Take her if you can!!!!!

VERY EASY! she tells you everything you need to know. 3 speeches, 2 tests (very easy...you don't have to do the reading, it is common sense). Easy grader on speeches. Canceles class often! Kind of funny. Highly reccomended.

The class is 4 papers with outlines and 2 tests. Very easy because she understands that it is difficult for many people to give a speech and she makes you feel really comfortable about giving a speech.

Patty is an amazing prof who is both knowledgeable and interesting. She's very funny and kind and is your best bet for Speech 101 (especially if you're the nervous type). Also, the comment posted below isn't at all true but it’s obviously beneficial to see her for advice since she knows her stuff. I think she reads RMP, so Patty, you rock!

She is an amazing teacher. Super sweet. Tests are easy- just take notes and read the chapters (which you can actually scan through) Be prepared on your speeches, and you can get an easy A. Extra credit for attendance! Highly rec.

Great teacher. Take her class in the summer. Speech is overn in 4 quick weeks. Very easy grader. Easy A, just follow the outline that she gives you. Many days off, free advice days you do not have to come. Go she will basically give you a thesis!!

I was not interested in taking speech, but she made it better. She tries her best to clarify things and Free Advice Day is highly recommended. If you follow the outlines and instructions you'll get an A. You get extra credit for attendance. She is very approachable and a great teacher!

She is a cool person, but Speech 200 is a poor class. It is a waste of time, but it is very very easy, and an easy class for a humanities credit. I found it somewhat boring, and it's 1000X worse if your classmates don't speak. If you want a challenge, find a different class.

I would recommend taking her in the summer for 4 weeks. You’ll have 1 speech a week and 3 tests total. She makes everyone feel comfortable giving speeches. If you are a nervous speech giver, definitely take her. She is also a relatively easy grader.

Take this class in the summer for 5 weeks. 4 speeches, and 2 tests. The tests are VERY easy. She is really nice and clear. Grades pretty good.

She has no tolerance 4 irresponsibility, lateness, immaturity - which I LOVE! Take adv. of free advice day, pay attention & respect her and you will find yourself an easy A. Sure she fails some, but the ones she does fail, deserve it by all means! I loved PATTY! She is a great speech teacher esp if youre dreading it!

I would say overall she is a good teacher, but the one thing that turned me against her was could not give my speech she would not let me make it up and almost made me do a group project on my own if it weren't for a buddy in the class. So if you take her she takes no excuses for not being there for a speech...NONE!

When I first met her, she kind of gave me a vibe that she didn't like me, I don't know why though. The speeches are easy, just follow the outline and you're good. The tests are easy. very strict though, but you get 80 points just for showing up to class on time everyday. Oh and take free advice day if you can, it rly helps ur grade it takes 5 mins

Gives short to the point lectures which is great. She can be intimidating because she always looks grumpy when she is not lecturing. 4 speeches with outlines (no outline no speech) and two tests plus required attendance. If you miss the day you were suppose to give your speech or forget your outline you forfeit all of those points. Do free advice.

Patti was pretty nice. As long as you follow her instructions and do what she says you will be fine in her class.

She will tell you what you need to know, but you have to listen & TRUST her advice. If she tells you the draft of your informative speech is actually persuasive, she's telling you what to fix! She's very strict on time. Be sure to practice speeches a bunch of times B4 class. If the speech is supposed to be 4 min., be sure it's exactaly 4 min.

Excellent teacher, just meet her halfway. Succinct lectures, fair tests, doesn't care that you're nervous (but she's so good at preparing you, it'll wear off). Listen, follow instructions, and do your best and you will be greatly empowered by this course. Slack off, mess around in class, or write a speech the night before and woe unto you.

Patti's a good teacher. A little condescending, but only when people are clearly being lazy and don't know what they're talking about. Use common sense!

Lover her! Great class! I would definitely take it again. She's a great listener. Just go to class and turn in your papers and you'll do great. Don't listen to the other students who put her down. They are the ones who don't know how to listen or clearly read the syllabus and the ones that are lazy. The class was very informative and very helpful.

Patti was seriously one of the greatest speech teachers I've had. She understands that people get nervous while giving speeches, and doesn't want you to change yourself or the way you speak. She honestly cares about speech and her students, and as long as you do your work and ask for help if you need it, succeeding in this class is simple.

Very nice and quirky lady. She takes attendance everyday, so go to class. Otherwise, it was simple and not as bad as I thought speech would be. No homework and gives you outlines of how to write your speeches. Follow her simple instructions and there's no way you shouldn't get an A!

If you are nervous about Speech class take her. She is kind, her instructions and expectations are clear and she gives feedback in a nice way. She doesn't tape you like other speech classes I've heard. Show up, follow her instructions and you will get an A.

omg she is hilarious!! shes a pretty easy grader and give extra credit for not missing classses! i took her for summer school and we got out early every day! i'd reccomend her to anybody

Very kind and funny. Interpersonal Comm is VERY easy, you're just graded on showing up and 4 or 5 four-page papers. She tells you not to bothering buying the textbook, and we ALWAYS get out of class early. Gets off-track a lot with personal stories, but all are funny. Take notes on material once in a while, show up, and turn in papers for an easy A

Highly recommend you take this course with this teacher! She is so kind, funny, and understanding. She teaches everything clearly and I learned a lot from her class. Attendance is mandatory. :)

Awesome teacher..

Patti knows that most students dread giving speeches, and she tries to make it as painless as possible. Don't play games or make excuses, though; it won't go over with her. Just give the class a reasonable amount of effort, and you'll be fine. As a side note, she doesn't record the speeches, which was a relief.

Patti is a great teacher. She goes out of her way to help her students and just wants to see you succeed. I would highly recommend her for any course that you are looking to take.

Very fun and enthusiastic teacher. Goes off topic a bit too much with stories, but in the end it all comes back to the topic she was talking about. She's also a really nice person. Definitely take her class!

TAKE HER FOR SPEECH 101!!!! speeches are so easy and short. only have to give 3 individual and 1 group speech. She lets you pick ANYTHING and as long as you have an outline and follow the format while speaking you will get an A. Super easy SUPER NICE.

This is a great class. Patti, has some of the best stories. Work load isn't bad, 3 small papers and a take home mid-term and final. Attendance is mandatory, but well worth being there. Patti does let out early on most days. Patti is very understanding, so if you have issues, just speak with her. Very FAIR grader. Highly recommend!!

GREAT teacher! Very fair and easy grader. The speeches were easy and you got to pick what you did them on. She's very compassionate and understanding. I took a joint class with her and Ms. Kurup. I would recommend it to everyone! Easy a's in both spe & eng 101. You can base your speech on your paper! They work so well together!

This was definitely the easiest class I have ever taken. You're basically guaranteed a 100% if you do her papers. Even if you didn't have it done on the day it was due, she'd give you the extra week to turn it in with no points deducted. She had very interesting stories, and she's hilarious. Attendance is mandatory. You watch shows and movies too!

I took a joint class with her and Seema Kurup and it was such a great class. She is a great teacher. If you do what you are supposed to do and ask for help, you will do fine in the class. I loved all the speeches we got to do, and enjoyed the joint class. I would highly recommend her class.

This class is super easy with her. Such a nice person! You only do 3 speeches and 2 exams through the whole semester. Definitely take her!!

Mrs. Ferguson is easily one of the best professors I have ever had. I have no interest in speech, but she made class very fun to attend. I took it over the summer and I had 2 tests that were basic common knowledge questions. You will also have 3 speeches. As long as you make it seem like you care about the class, she will give you a good grade!

She makes speech tolerable. She is clear on what she expects, and teaches the technical part very well. She doesn't require you to dress up like other professors. There were only 3 speeches, one informative, one persuasive, and you get to choose either informative or persuasive for the last one. I definitely recommend her!

An extremely easy class. Patti is very clear on what you have to do to get an A. She takes attendance and gives extra credit if you come to every class. You can miss up to 3-4 classes before she deducts a few points. No biggie. Her tests are about 70% lecture, 30% book. I would just skim the chapters. Make eye contact and talk loud for speeches.

Professor Ferguson is great! She is such a kind and funny person. She has the best stories, non-stop! You don't have any exams for this class, but you have a few papers, which are EASY if you do them. Attendance counts, even when you have another major commitment to be at. Overall, i recommend you take this course with her! It'll change you!

she teaches speech and she knows its not going to be your major that said she can tell if you're trying and if you try, you pass.. this class is mandator and id recommend taking her.

This lady is very helpful. In my opinion she did not give enough hw. Also her whole m.o. is that she wants "us to be our main source" for our papers. That's kinda hard when you're trying to persuade an audience why they should insert topic. It really limits what you can talk about. Also no historical topics allowed. :(

Overall, Professor Ferguson was a good Speech teacher, she was funny and made tried to make lectures entertaining. There are 2 exams, and if you don't study for them that can really affect your grade. The speech criteria is straight forward, but she doesn't give much feedback if your going in the right direction. Overall, easy A with her.

She is the best Professor for speech 101! If you follow her outline for your speech and stay within the time limit you will get a good grade. She also gives extra credit.

Great teacher. She may be a semi-tough grader BUT go to the class optional days for feedback for your outline and you're guaranteed to pass.

Professor Ferguson is a wonderful lady. She will give you a different outlook on communication and you will be able to take something away from each assignment. Her assignments and expectations are very straightforward, and she is extremely understanding if you are unable to make a deadline. I turned in one paper late and still received an A+

Very kind, and awesome teacher, always makes the class fun and exciting. I took this class for an 8 am and I enjoyed it. (Says a lot about the professor) She's an easy grader but does require you to put in work. The textbook is cheap, and you'll need it for the test. The test are common sense.

Mrs. Ferguson, is a great speech teacher! Shes very helpful and lets you pick pretty much any topic. Her grading is fair, although she does give a lot of points off for time, even by like a minute. Overall, really nice lady and if youre looking for a more easy speech class take this one!!!

She really wants her students to pass and she will go out of her way to make sure you you are engaged and having a smooth class. I got all 100% on my speeches and days that there was something wrong with me she could tell and she would ask if I needed anything.

Professor Kaplow made class interesting and fun. She gave a lot of great examples on past experience of student's speeches and the proper way to do public speaking. She wants the best for students and give us a lot of extra credit opportunities to raise our grade. She is very accessible outside of class, so when you need help she will help you.

Patti Ferguson has really made speech an easy class. Put in the work to do the outlines for speeches. Do your homework, ask questions and this is the easiest class you'll ever take. She wants the best for you and makes speeches a comfortable thing in class, does not record, and gives immediate feedback. Many days available for advice & extra credit

I love Patti!! She is real about life and will meet you halfway with almost anything you need. She will tell you exactly what she expects from you for speeches and gives you a clear outline for them. She does give 2 tests throughout the semester but as long as you read the short chapters in the book, they'll be easy.

Professor Patricia Ferguson is by far one of the best professor I've had at Harper. She is such a sweet, caring person and she encourages all her students to participate in class. Attendance is a must, as well as participation! If you want to take an interpersonal communication class, HIGHLY recommend you take her! You will not regret it :)

She's a really nice person. she tells us to buy the book for the test, but I did not buy it and still passed the test. she is clear about what she wants in speeches and she will help you if necessary. Would recommend taking her speech 101 class.

If you have to take speech, take her! This class was so easy. I took the 8-week version and it was still easy. Only 6 ted talks to watch and answer questions on and 3 speeches including an introductory speech. Taking this as a 16-week class would've just dragged it out. Such an easy A!
