Class is really hard. Tests have nothing to do with her lectures. If you skip class, make sure you keep up with the readings. She's really nice but the class is just way too hard.
You don't even have to show up for class since her lectures doesn't help much-just a fast review of the chapters. It's better to just read the book & study as much as possible.Test Qs are clear, but very random. She's really nice though.
She is fair. Tests are shortessay ques, lectures are on ppt. Took summerclass fastpaced but ez if u study.7 quizzes [one per wk, no final] & 1group proj. Quiz every wk made material ez 2 remember since it was so fastpaced.
She repeats herself in the lectures and talks to us like we are in kindergarten. i dont like her lectures and i fall asleep during class. butshe is nice i guess
there is too mucj information. and she is not really clear
Tough class... Lectures are not relevant to tests. You need to read book. 4 tests and some extra credit stuff is whatyour graded on
it is very hard class and makes it even harder the teacher. Her lucture has nothing to not with the test and don't even try to west your time on the study sheet. The tests are hard
Tough class...but prof wants you to succeed. Helps to go to office hours.
She lectures on powerpoint, it's usually an overview of the chapter. The test are difficult but she does give study guides, which usually help. Her quizzes are confusing at times. Lab was fun you only turn in one lab at the end of the semester. You go on field trips and do a couple assignments.
Grades are based on total points (not the usual 40% exams,2% hw,etc). She gives lots of extra credit. Her exams are fair just follow the study guide. She gets off topic a lot, which can be annoying. She can be very undecisive and unorganized. Materials are never handed back on time.
So much to know! How dos she rememer it all. What's really annoying (previous entry) is you do not know how to spell...it's indecisive stupid. And, she is not!
Professor Flower really is a pretty good teacher. She knew what she was talking about. When you are not really into Biology anyway it's hard to want to pay attention. I think she did a very good job
She seems nice and helpful. Her notes are all over the place and its confusing, but I dont blame that entirely on her. Biology is just confusing sometimes!!
She's a very nice and understanding teacher. The only thing is maybe she could make her classes a little more interesting instead of just talking all the time. Makes it kinda hard to pay attention.
She is very nice and very helpful, but she has to help people all the time because she doesnt make her notes clear. Plus what notes we take arent usually on the tests. Its hard to get a good grade unless you study 14 pages of unecessary notes. She is still nice though!!

Enthusiastic about course. Has papers available for us in timely manner. i look forward to coming to class...she is alive and has a pulse!
She is very nice and helpful, but her exam pre tests have NOTHING to do with the actual exam. Whatever is not on the pre test is guaranteed to be on the actual test. Its all home studying. Plus she talks and talks then goes off on tangents and you don't know where she is anymore! And dont ask her a straightforward question expecting a straightforward answer... it just cant happen.
Enthusiastic about course. Has papers available to us in timely manner. I look forward to coming to class. she is alive and has a pulse.
Instructor seems easy to approach& has enthusiasm for her subject. She also takes time to explain things to those of us who have questions.
Very interesting class. Nice, helpful, friendly. Wants to help if you need it--just ask. Quizzes were easy, labs were fun. Just show up, not hard to pass. I didn't have her for the lecture(105)though.
Her class is really interesting and you can tell she is into it, but the tests and quizzes are a pain. You really need to study, and not just the lecture notes. Just be really prepared for tests and quizzes. Show up every class because you never know when she is going to give extra credit
She's o.k. Nothing special.
nice professor, knows the subject, but doesn't know how to explain it in definite terms. she likes to explain using examples. you really gotta study the text and her lecture notes to get a good grade on the exams, all other assignments and activities are easy. she doesn't take attendance but she gives extra credit randomly so it's good to show up
Awesome teacher. One of the best I've had so far. Just show up to every class (random extra credit), do the assignements, and STUDY for quizzes and tests. Do the exam review sheets and she will give you 20 points on the exam. Follow my advice and you'll do well in her class. Happy studying!
You really have to study outside of her notes for the tests, but if bio isnt your best subject she is very willing to help in any way she can. She's got a good sense of humor. Lectures may be a bit random, but overall a good teacher. Just pay attention to EVERYTHING she says during lecture. A story she tells not from the book may be on a test!!
Great professor!
I took a supposedly "bad" teacher for 210A (phiri in mesa) but lets just say that he blew this woman away. Let me also say that this class has NO place in a pre-med's major req. Its utterly useless information that only a evolutionary or organismal biologist would care about, so why do they require it for others? because of ucsd's bureaucratic bs.
This teacher is probably one of the easiest teachers that I have ever had in my community college career. She made Biology a little more interesting. The course was very easy. Not too much work. Good class.
Mrs Flower is nice enough as a person. The problem in her class is that she's a very weak teacher. She is very unorganized and unhelpful. I, and many fellow students were very frustrated with her teaching style. She showed up to class late at least half the time and showed in class that she just wanted to leave as soon as possible. Very poor teache
Extreemly difficult! Expects way TOO much from her students for a general biology course. If you memorize everything she says, everything in the text and every peice of note she hands out, you will pass the class. Not at all recommended unless you have a photographic memory.
P. Flower is not all there when it comes to teaching. She seems really nice at first, but kind spacy. 210B is a tough class and she dosen't do much for it. she gives study guides on useless material and dosen't test on crap she told us we need to know. Thank god this class is over and I passed, if I had to do it again I would not take her
Easy A/B as long as you show up.Definetly pay attention in lecture, she can be unorganized-especially when she writes on the board.Uses the book a lot but gives some notes not from book.4announced quizzes.4exams including the final-do the study guides! exam not exactly like study guide so look over all notes. works with you, very nice teacher :o)
Wow, she knows her stuff! Very demanding class.
Spacey...I think not...smart and very organized. You just didn't get it. Always on time and smiling!
Good teacher really nice and helpful. not a whole lot of work either.
Compared to the ones at Mesa, this instructor is a BomB. she doesnt focus on extra S***, not like Phiri at all, just do all the lecture tests, lab practicals, and field trips, I'm sure u'll start to like it, like i did (I was scared as hell before taking it too cause i heard B was harder than A, but turns out just different instructors :D)
i love her! she made the class so interesting. she made the information easy to understand. she leaves out what is too hard and is useless to non majors. i loved all her quirky mannerisms! she is also very helpful and understanding.i highly recommend her as a professor!
Best Biology instructor. Tough class, but she's very caring.
she is nice, but seems not putting too many affard on the class. she won't hand out the perious test to you, but if you can get the students take the class before you and ask them to save you the scantron that's really helpful. she didn't change any of the questions. and nomatter A or B part are the same. so good luck !!! find a good friend.
Hard Class. Good Teacher. Her lecture notes are the test. So take good notes, you cannot rely on just reading the book. I got an A but alot of ppl were failing. Test averages were consistently in the 50s. No curve.
im currently in the class and im gettin an A in the class, a lot of ppl dropped, its a hard class because there a lot of materials to learn but its doable! if ur goin to take this class at mesa or miramar she is the teacher!!very nice lady!
Shes a very friendly teacher. If you have a question JUST ASK! Her lab practicals are tough as well as her tests. The reason why this class was so hard for me was because I was taking a chem class as well. Her lectures are never boring, but when it comes near the final, her lectures can get somewhat confusing. Overall, she's a wonderful professor.
Prof Flowers is extremely nice. The material is hard but is definitely doable. I mean if you study hard enough you'll do great in this class. Not a lot of work and she gives extra credit. She's a really nice teacher that would help you out when you need it.
I loved it. I loved her. Favorite science class, compared to Botany. PUKE.
There is a ton of information to cover in this class. She does a good job of covering all of it though. She's always happy to answer questions and talk about the class. She's very passionate about science and has a great personality. In this class, I strongly recommend studying hard, taking a lot of notes, and reading the book.
A very good teacher! I definitely recommend her! Her tests can be a little more on the difficult side, so this class requires A LOT of studying if you want to do well in it. But she is very helpful whenever you don't understand something. She gives extra credit also if you need it.
EXCELLENT PROF. I JUST LOVED HER. PATTY FLOWER ROCKS!
Demeanor: nice. But UNORGANIZED. She'd give us study guides that would site diagrams that weren't what she said they'd be...had us study Fungi and it wasn't on the test she said it would be on and then threw it onto the final but didn't tell us it would be there. Told the class we didn't have to study specific chemical compounds and then put the
P.Flower is a nice teacher considerate if you don't understand something. Only her test are scattered allot of errors (like wrong answers on the key). But gives extra credit and had all notes on power point if you dont like taking notes then print them all out and add to them! Nice distey blonde!
classy and professional. very approachable. Would definitely take her again.
Really nice lady. Honestly, I thought her class was really easy. A lot of other students had a hard time, but so much of them were first semester college students. I think I aced every test except one and I rarely showed up for class. :)
She is the best teacher ever!! Love her, wonderful she is into her teaching. She enjoyed teaching biology, it really showed. She was beyond helpful..If all teachers were like her we all would be rocket scientists..Take her she's great!!
Loved her! The subject is hard, she tries her best to teach it in a way we understand it but you MUST study for tests! Show her that you're trying, show up to every class and every lab and you'll most likely get a passing grade. Fun labs and field trips. Really nice professor, very caring and helpful. If you need to pass bio, take her!
Awesome teacher, very passionate. Her powerpoints are disorganized, but pay attention to what she stresses/repeats in class, and you're pretty much set for the exams. If you like biology/have a good foundation already, it's an easy A. If you're just messing around, good luck with her exams, they can be cryptic for people who don't think them through.
don't take her!
Prof Flower is pretty disorganized with her lectures, but this class is fairly easy. Make sure you pay attention to her lectures, take good notes, and look at her study guides, and you wont need to buy a textbook. At the end of the semester, she also curves the grades. For our class an 85 was an A. I would highly recommend this class.

Insanely nice and helpful. Very passionate about the subject. She lectures from all over the book, but just follow the powerpoints and focus on studing what she emphasizes in class. Alot of memorization!
This was a very challenging class for me. Lots of fascinating material though. Uses lots of visuals and interacts with class. Grade depends on several things, not just tests. Class participation, lab work, and effort count with her. Do your best, ask for help, she'll notice. Loves the subject and cares about students. Very approachable and low key.
I have a 3.66 GPA in college and got my first F on an exam on the past test, it was ridiculous. I aced ochem lab and lecture and this class leaves it in the dust. Almost halfway through this semester and am questioning whether or not I'll pass. Covers way too much in depth material for an intro class. Extra Credit helps, but it's not enough.
I don't understand how Flower got such a high rating. She's a very nice lady, but her teaching is VERY unclear. You depend on the books more than the slides/notes. Her notes are everywhere and confusing. The tests are NOTHING like the study guide, or nearly what we covered. This is coming from someone who doesn't expect to breeze by the semester.
Wonderful professor! very passionate about biology. helpful with questions and very considerate with students. highly reccomend
this teacher doesn't know how to teach at all. stay away from taking her class... lecture is all over the place and not clear. stay away! your grade will be a failing grade with her teaching syle.
I dont understand either how she has such a high rating on here. Her lectures are insanely hard to follow, I was basically teaching my self in her class. The test questions come out of no where on stuff we have never fully discussed. On one test the highest score in the class was a C-. I do not recommend if you don't want to mess up your GPA.
BIO107 is a lot of material to cover in one semester. I failed it the first go around in Dr. Flower's class...but that was all on me. If you don't study, you won't pass. If really "STUDY" then a good grade is very achievable. Don't get sucked into the "how hard this class is" convos...just stay focused and commit.
Although she very nice as person, I would not recommend her as a professor. When it comes to her exams, sometimes it's unclear and her PP slides aren't very helpful. If you have to take this class then please focus on the study guides and the textbook and you'll do just fine. Although, She does give plenty of extra credit points.
This class has a LOT of information, but it's easy to get an A if you put it the effort. Her lectures will contain exam questions/answers that you won't see in the book, so taking good notes is a must. You have to read the chapters and fully understand the material. The lab practicals are intimidating; just make sure you study the lab manual.
If you're looking for clarity in a professor, do not take her class. Her lectures are confusing and she is NEVER clear about what is going to be on the exams. She posts study guides online, but probably only 2% of it will actually be on the tests. She doesn't care if you text or fall asleep in class either.
I'm currently enrolled in her Bio 107 class. I really enjoy her as a teacher. Biology is a tough subject but she does her best to make lectures and concepts easy for you to understand. She's passionate about what she teaches and a makes that clean during class and in lab. Show up to class, show up to lab, ask questions, you'll pass.
Dr. Flower really cares about her students. She is extremely helpful and will even offer a couple extra credit opportunities. This is a biology class, so it of course requires a TON of memorization. It is not an easy A, but it is manageable if you put time into memorizing and studying. Such a sweet professor!
Great teacher, passionate. Not an easy A, but you work hard and show the effort it will be recognized. Stay organized there is a lot of information, and the book is very useful--teaches from the book
Like most have already said, she's a really great, kind, and passionate teacher. Her lectures kinda make me sleepy sometimes though, because she sounds kinda sleepy too when she lectures. Her class is pretty hard and you actually need to study up, but she gives you the help and resources to do so.
Prof. Flower is friendly but I found her lecture style dull and slow. Her tests were a welcome challenge for me but the detail they cover is not reflected in her vague study guides. Lab was very easy as long as you do the drawings and label everything as indicated. She always seemed a little distracted but she is responsive to questions if you ask.
210Bmost difficult in the Biology series that you will take b/c you must be willing to put effort into reading, taking notes, and thoroughly/explicitly study every intricate detail regarding organismal and plant biology outside of lecture. A's are possible. Flower's lectures are slow, but interesting. Her practicals, quizzes, & tests are intense.
Awesome professor, really enthusiastic about the subject and very approachable. I loved her class but it was a tough one, there is a lot of material to cover so you need to keep up. She is super helpful and good at explaining the material, this class would be a lot harder with a different professor.
The worst professor ive had during my time at miramar. Do yourself a favor and take literally anybody else you possibly can even if you have to take it at a different district do not take it with flower. The exams are so hard and arent reflective of her lecture material nor study guides. This class ruined my gpa i barely passed
210B with Flower will be a run for your money. This class is very time consuming, and will require your upmost dedication if you want to be successful. Her questions are not straight forward rote memorization like previous Biology classes I've had; you actually have to think about and build on the knowledge you learn. Don't expect an easy A.
Don't be afraid the first 2 weeks of class. It appears like her class is super hard but if you stick around long enough to watch the weaklings drop the class 10 weeks into the semester, she will show you that she will pass you. Her syllabus says things to make it look like its hard, but she gives extra credit and other assignments 2 fluff up grade.
tough class, to pass you HAVE to read the textbook. Exams and quizzes are based on lecture and textbook info. She does offer a study guide for her exams. If you dont read the text and dont take notes in class you probably wont pass. Grade is mostly based on exams.
This is the most disorganized professor I have ever had, she doesn't even have a schedule, and would email you about a test 1 hour ahead of time. Lectures are boring, and almost nothing on the tests were covered.
She's an amazing professor, she makes it really clear what she expects, the exams can be a little tough. She goes over all the material on the test in class. It's worded the same way she lectures. Labs are super fun and interesting. I definitely recommend taking her if you get a chance!!!
Toughest professor I've ever taken! Her tests are so hard and some of the questions are not even in the book nor her lectures. Lectures are super boring with her monotone voice. Even the lab has a final with 50 multiple choices, which is super hard. Pretty sure nobody got an A in the class. She's nice though, so that's something.
She's a nice lady that teaches long lectures. However, her tests are very difficult. She uses assignments and labs to try to bring up your grade because most people get low scores on the test. Great teacher. Hard Tests.
Do yourself a favor and pick another class. Really hard test which she did not fully cover. Need a lot of time and effort which is not worth it.
Prof. Flower is amazing. Pick this class if you want to learn a lot! There is a LOT of info and you HAVE to take detailed notes but Dr. Flower writes everything you are required to know on the board. Lab is great as well. Flower treats all her students with respect and she is light-hearted so that makes this rigorous class enjoyable.
Great teacher! Made me fall in love with Biology again. Powerpoint lectures with only pictures and she writes important info on the board. She can sometimes get a little off topic for too long when she's trying to answer students questions. 2 personal fieldtrips. Easy labs. 4 exams and 4 lab exams(practicals). Her classes were a lot of fun!
Very nice lady! To succeed you should attend every lecture/lab, copy whatever she writes on the board, make note of the MANY hints she drops about the exams/practicums, take pictures of lab specimens/slides, read the text book to fill in content gaps. There will be bonus questions on lab practicums, but no extra credit assignments. An A is doable.
Her exams and lab practicals are challenging, but fair. She will give out a few exam questions to the whole class to give you an idea about what to expect if enough students ask for it. If you go to office hours to review previous exams, it's possible to get points back on partially correct MC questions or ambiguously worded questions. She is sweet
Approachable, knowledgeable, passionate. Lecture tests are difficult, so be sure to read the text book and do study guides. Lab practicals are straight forward, but require brute memorization of key terms from lab manual. Bonus questions are available on practicals. Gives great feedback during office hours and allows you to review finished exams
Personable and experienced, generally organized, but lectures can be oddly structured. Realize that all exams are based on textbook publisher test bank questions which are far more detailed than lecture will be. Some instructors rely on a 3rd party editorial source for test material and that's the reality of this course, prepare accordingly.
Excellent teacher - knows her stuff. People giving her poor scores are immature looking not too work.
Ugh tests are hard, but fair - class should be 5 units - so much to cover but you feel like she is on your side. Those that expect to skate by in a majors class - you are in for a surprise. learned alot
Dr. Flower is very knowledgeable and I enjoyed her lectures. Tests are tough but doable if you've done all the reading and reviewed your lecture notes. My only gripe is that she chooses test questions that are vague or poorly worded which just leads to confusion. If she spent more time editing the test beforehand this class would be perfect.
Great professor for a difficult subject. Very clear and interesting lectures. So far my favorite professor. You have to pay attention and show up to Class. Extra points gives you a chance to do good. Highly recommend Dr. Patrica Flower.
Great professor for a difficult subject.
