A challenging professor. Wonderful lecturer. Tough grades, based on effort.
Work and study hard. Lots of reading and tough tests. Worth it in the end.
She's just HARD.
Tests are really hard, but do well on your papers and you'll be fine! :)
Very knowledgeable, but can dish it out, yet can not take it... BEWARE!!!
HARD. Can be mean and unprofesional. Though she is smart and experienced.
Hard but fair, makes you work for the grade

Memorize everythingfor long written exams plus 3 papers and research!
You will learn alot in her class. She is definitely worth taking for this class
knows her stuff but incredibly unfair grader. AVOID AT ALL COST

She is hard, but fair. She is very knowlegeable and worth it at the end.
rude to students, has favorites, extremely harsh grader

IYou must exert yourself if you really want a good grade. However, she is fair

Very funny, very pleasant prof. Take her and have no regrets.
Kind of hard if you don't pay attention. Learn alot!!
You learn, but most pay attention in order to get a decent grade. A lot of work
Explains well, but its a hard class, gotta study a lot to pass it.
challenging but fair and interesting. somewhat disorganzied.

not easy, but worth it, we should have to know more about africa
Very fair if you read & study. Make sure & pack a lunch for her tests.
Do the work and you'll be fine, but there's a lot of work
Nice and understanding prof. You'll do good as long as you keep up with the wor
Knowledgable, I lover her! Exams are hard, just study EVERYTHING!
has first hand experience great stories, study EVERYTHING, being in class helps
As a mature college student, you'll appreciate her. Hard--worth it.

SHES AWFUL. DO URSELF A FAVOR AND DONT TAKE HER CLASS.
annoying talks 2 much..lots of werk exams r hard..but project is easy
2 MUSEUMS, RESEARCH PAPER, QUIZ, 2 EXAMS- ENOUGH SAID
Very good and knowledgable person...Lots of work but so much reward
Great! She has the funniest stories. If ur mature and want 2 learn take her
gee i wonder y her classes r never closed. shes awful. dont take her
Intelligent, funny,a little senial. Hard, gives xtra credit, good class.
excellent. I wish I had a professor like her for all my classes.
i thought i was failing, but got a B+...should have stayed away
She knows her stuff, but gets a little boring sometimes. Nice lady though, cool stories. Hard class though.
VERY KNOWLEDGABLE AND EXTREMELY OPINIONATED. OFTEN RUDE TO STUDENTS. MAKE SURE TO STUDY EVERYTHING. I LEARNED A LOT THOUGH.
Way too much work. Probably ****. Too hard. Don't take her!
SOOOOOO MUCH WORK FOR A STUPID LITTLE 3 CREDIT CLASS. TESTS ARE HARD. SHE CAN BE RUDE AT TIMES. A BIG WASTE OF TIME. AVOID THIS CLASS
She's not that bad what pro gives you all of the notes typed for you if you do as she says read her notes you'll be fine and you will learn a thing or two Knows her stuff but can be arrogant and silly
Nice lady, knows her stuff, shes tough though, if you can handle actual school work her class is worthwhile, you actually learn
This class was one of the best classes that I have ever taken in Pace. She is an excellent professor. If you like a little challenge, then this is definitely the class for you. This is a hard class but you have to put time and effort in it. I got an A
Very intelligent lady. Although there is a lot of reading to do, the class is fairly easy. The paper as well as museum projects help bring the grade up.
make sure you see her slide show of her trip to africa. you will die laughing when you see what she looked like back in the 70's!!
THE WORST. SERIOUSLY. STAY AWAY. I DONT CARE HOW INTELLIGENT SHE IS- THIS CLASS IS THE WORST.
she's good........
She really knows her stuff, I learned tons and she really made me think about what I thought I knew about the third world and about history; needs to work on her people skills though
Not very objective. Hates to be corrected. Horrible pronunciation. Extremely boring at times. Corny jokes all the time. Do yourself a favor; take Oseye!
Interesting lady. Study and learn how to spell African names, and you'll be ok.
yo i u wanna learn or chill...take her...she mad crazy but she gives u da info u need...TAKE HER!!!good grader

She is the best. As long as you study and do the two papers, there is no way you will not get a good grade in her class. I am not saying her class is easy, but this is a college course right?
She's an excellent teacher and very knowledgeable, she's also very helpful and clear in her presentation, she tells very interesting stories about her experiences in Africa, TAKE HER!
Bad attitude! Really really obnoxious!
Very interesting, very knowledgeable! Take her classes! Best not ask for help during class, instead visit her during office hours - she'll devote herself to helping you. Has strict set of student conduct rules for the class - best to follow the rules!
Prof. Gloster-Coates is a very good professor. At the beginning of the semester, you might feel a little bit intimidated, but hang in there. Do all your course work and I garantee you'll pass the class with a good grade. Fair "grader"
She a very good professor, she can be strict which will drive you crazy but she knows her stuff. She preps you for all test so there aren't any reason to fail her class. She's funny.

Probably has more knowledge in her area of expertise than any other professor at the school. Good to take if you want to continue your education.
tries to explain the subject, but still hard to understand. lots of reading, too much!!! but, she is fair opn grading.
What is she smoking. I think this was an utter waste of my time, this class for history majors should have been taught in the beginning not the end. She cracks jokes and laughs herself and we laugh at her. She is a nice person but, out there like left field out there.
She's extremely nice and devoted to teaching. Although, her gestures are what gives her a bad reputation among majors. I also took her for intro level class. She's not hard at all. I definitely agree that she's a fair grader.
Take it from a history miner. It takes some getting used to, but otherwise a great professor. Those looking for good core classes in history. I'd also recommend Profs. Izady, Roland, Swacker, Alberi, and Frank.
Uses the Rules List scare tactic to drive students away becuase she only wants to be left with those who are absolutely committed to learning. She knowledgeable and not a difficult grader at all. Would take a class with her again.
At first I was reluctant, but I'm glad I took this class for core credit. Fairly easy grader. I'm expecting an A.
At the beginning of the semester I dreaded this class and found her extremely hard to follow with the way she gives her notes (she hands out dittos with a lot of random information thats hard to follow) but as the semester went on I understood how she taught. She's honestly one of the most interesting people I've ever met. I would take her again
SHe's an old an average old woman. She has her stories and supposidly had 8m jobs..but she is a great teacher. She sees effort. I got a d on quiz D on midterm and a c on final but I participated and did extracredits. and ended up with a B+ def. take her. Just show up to class and be willing to learn
Really nice, helpful. But a lot of work. She was the only B+ I had last semester (there goes my 4.0) but you will learn a lot and it is interesting.
Well...she's a bit crazy but her class is bearable. Lots of work required but it's really not that hard.
can be annoying at times- complains about every little thing students do, but an overall easy grader. i love it when she complains and Quest just sits there smiling as always. haha
The class was interested; it had to do with Ancient-Medieval African History and the slave trades. It actually kept getting better as the semester progressed. Throughout the class she'll share her experiences about Africa. I think her courses are worth considering. The workload is managable. No need to purchase textbook.
Intelligent, and productive. Boring at times if you actually did the reading. No need to purchase the book easy grader.
This woman is a trip. Don't take her if you don't have to. Nothing is ever good enough for her. Hard grader, i don't know what these people are talking about and im a good student. Forces you to participate in her boring discussions.
class is boring as all hell, but she does have her funny/quirkey moments... demands class participation, ok grader, and nice lady... if you don't need the class, don't bother...
Gives varied assignments: had to go to museum, an archive, and interview someone. There's also a midterm and 10-page project at the end. Assignments are easy, but grades unfairly at the end. You have to jump out of your skin every single class to show that you are worth an A :(
Smarted and wisest woman on the planet.
Smartest and wisest woman on the planet.
I've taken 4 classes with her, next semester will make my 5th. The woman is an absolute genious and if you enjoy learning you should take her. I only hope one day I can have the same amount of knowledge she does. She's a very fair grader and a great woman! Take the time to speak to her outside of class, shes a lot more down to earth than in class
Google her.. she's an award winning professor with articles published internat'l mags. This woman is really something. Yes she has rules and yes she'll call you out if you sit there texting all class or walk in late all the time, but this is college-she respects responsible students.Ive taken her many times and always gotten an A, just do the work
I slept every class and got an A. Study all the notes she gives you the night before and you'll do fine.
I needed this class for my minor, and it turned out to be a waste of time and money. I didn't want an easy class that you just needed to show up for and tolerate an erratic teaching style. Her "lecture notes" were rambling and incoherent, and I went into quizzes and tests having no clue what was going to be on them. as nonsensical as quest!
Lady would not stop rambling in class, there is no clear objectives, and she seems to not know what she's doing, even though she is head of the dept.
1 research paper (6-10 pageas), 1 museum project. 1 midterm 1 final. Pretty easy class. Not required to read the readings she gives you BUT you will see the stuff on the midterm and final and the discussion in class is on readings + random stuff she always seems to lecture about. Sat in the back and went to sleep. She gives breaks all the time too.
So far, I feel the class is managable. Lots of studying, but quizzes should not be too hard. She manages to crack a few jokes here and there hahaha.
lots of work to do... tests are ok... not too hard, but def. not easy.
Not good so far.
lots of work for you to do. Doesn't explain material enough. Overrated in my opinion.
Prof. Gloster is the chair of the History Department. I expected her to teach as well as my History AP in high school. Disappointing me so far... low interest in class, and tests are so so........ Had high expectations from her...
do not buy textbook. can def. be better.
Overall a great course with her. Did not develop a lot of interest from her course. But, she was helpful and clear with the material/assignments. She is FAIR.
If you don't like history, don't take this course. She expects a lot of her students and sprinkles in a lot of bible work. Luckily I had bronchitis during the semester so I got a bit of a free pass on the final paper (extension), but I really had to shmooze to get any kind of help. Just mention God and good will and you'll have an easier time.
She's overall a good person but that's not why we are here. Unorganized lectures, disrespectful to students, goes off on tangents that have nothing to do with class. This will be my last class with her. I usually don't like to express negative views on a teacher but Prof.Gloster is sub standard.SORRY
Dr. Gloster-Coates a very fair grader. Exams follow her handouts. Gives varied projects of which the term paper carries the most weight. She takes teaching very seriously and makes it worth your money. You will definitely walk away having learned something, especially from writing the term paper.
She is one of the hardest working proffessor in pace, i never had history class before, taking with her in summer was worth my money. no need to buy book, she gives easy hand notes. exams are kinda hard but if u stdy her notes you can easily get an A.
Not clear in her teachings at all, but she is a very lenient grader. Just get the basic facts down and read the handouts and you are guaranteed an A.
She is the best History prof. I ever had. She has a passion for teaching & she makes it interesting. There is work involved during the course. However, is all worthy. For sure you will learn something priceless writing the term paper that she assigns from the 1st day. Only take her if you are willing to work hard and learn.
She's a really great professor but there is definitely some hard work to be had in this class. You will need to study for the tests and the term paper is similar to other classes. You won't leave without learning something though.
Overrated! She doesn't know her stuff. She makes mistakes. She talks non stop and offends you if u say ur opinion. Lectures are long and with no interest. If u wanna learn u ll have to read urself. However she makes jokes and she is an easy grader! Study her notes and do a good term paper and u ll get an A
She is often wrong about the material. Read all of her lectures to pass the tests. Don't depend on her "study guides", which are old tests. She shuts you down if your opinion is different from her own. I took the class to learn about my culture but by the end of the semester, it was my most hated class and made me never want to take a class w/her
She never seems to know what she's saying, interrupts herself and gets angry easily. She lectures a LOT about things you 'should' know and says rude comments about grad school. Also tells lots of personal stories. The papers are easy, just make the formatting nice and she'll love it. Midterm is annoying, but she gives you old exams that are useful.
Don't take this. Save yourself the time. It's not terribly difficult, but understanding what they're rambling about is the real challenge of the course, and they mishear or misinterpret every single question you could ask them about any assignment at any point in the class, so getting a clear answer is near impossible.
class is super boring, but I usually just go on twitter on my computer until class is over. She really is a very nice and understanding person, but will call you out if she needs to. I wouldn't choose to take her again, but if I HAD to it wouldn't be the worst thing. The papers are annoying but doable.
Lectures are all over the place - she has difficulty staying on topic and sometimes struggles with basic facts. I basically had to teach myself the course, which wasn't too hard, but I'm a history major. On the good side, she is an easy grader, there are a few papers and tests throughout the semester but they're not very difficult.
This class is useless. The prof repeated the same lectures for weeks at time. Wikipedia was frequently an assigned reading. Not accessible via email. The course does nothing to prepare you for HIS 499 and writing a thesis. Attendance was assumed to be optional because she didn't seem to count it and called people by the wrong names even on zoom.
No consistent curriculum, would go on rambling about irrelevant content and repeat lessons over and over again. Was often disrespectful toward students' identities and opinions. Any emails sent to her (INCLUDING ASSIGNMENTS) would often be left without response for long periods of time. Easy grader.
Words can't describe how disappointed I am. For a professor who claims to be so highly acclaimed, her teaching is lacking. Ramblings, inconsistent curriculum, technology illiterate, hard to work with, hard to reach out to, defensive, occassionally racist. It's a shame that she is the only one who teaches this course.
DO NOT TAKE HER. Professor Gloster does not grade assignments, makes rude and inappropriate comments about different religions and cultures, and often does not know what is going on. She actively provides wrong information and tries to get students to argue with her during lectures. She has been reported multiple times, and nothing has been done.
A very nice lady but she is past her time. This is the third time I've had her and it's sad to see her deteriorating. Forgets dates and requirements for assignments easily so good luck knowing when you're supposed to do anything. However she is a very lenient grader, as long as you have anything done she basically gives you an A.
I took her for a Culture and History of Black America class and it was the weirdest class ive ever taken. Every single lecture was the exact same tangent that skipped from post-civil war to civil rights with no information in between. She mostly spoke about her sneaking in somewhere to meet Dr. MLK Jr and getting mugged in harlem. She can not teach
Literally the most insane class I've had. An absolute mess. I was given an F despite doing all the work (there was like 2 assignments) and getting good grades and had to dispute the grade. she even gave up and had us all take the final online. To review for the final she had some other student come to the board and do a proper job of teaching.
