I had her for Cultural Anthropology and she was great. She gave out study guides for each test and they were all based on lecture. As long as you took notes during class, you should do fine on her tests.

This class is easy...period. The exam study guide she gives out at least a week before the exam tells you everything you need to know for the exam. **Hint** Take notes during lectures, you'll be happy you did. It's nice to have a teacher that is really enthusiastic about her study!

Overall easy teacher, but has a habit of having students finish her sentences, which can get a little irritating. Shows a few films in class, which is always good.

Great professor, knows her stuff and explains it well. Class is always very organized and on-track with the syllabus. There are never any surprises on the test, but that doesn't mean that they're easy. I'm taking anthro at a different school now and my professor doesn't come close to equalling Prof. Hamlen.

easiest forumla for passing her classes. show up everyday. do the readings. study for the test. I loathe antropology however by the end Ms. Hamlen had me interested. don't be discouraged if you bomb the first test, most students aren't sure what to expect before that. I got a 57 on the first test but managed to get 75 and up on the next 3

She really knows ger stuff..sometimes she seems bias but its just because she really lives this stuff..study for the tests they arent really hard but they do make you prove what you know..do all the reaction papers, if you do 1 full page you get the credit..a lil annoying w/her lectures but good overall..oh but she isnt that avail if you need help!

This is a great teacher. She knows her stuff and she knows how to teach it. I learned a lot from every class. She is very organized and she makes it interesting. The class is semi-easy. She gives you a study guide before each test so you know what to study. You have to put in some effort to gen an A but it should be an easy C. Highly recommended.

She is the most boring teacher ever. After a few weeks you can stand listening to her extremely boring lectures. Her voice after awhile is like nails on a chalkboard. But, she is really easy because you can cheat so easily on the tests in her class.

her lectures are good, sometimes boring but dont fall asleep, her tests come right out of lectures. the study guide was like an exact copy of the test. dont just write what she writes on the board either, you have to be alittle more involved than that. she loves what she teaches and therfore makes it interesting and enjoyable. overall good teacher.

god i hated this teacher, she knew her stuff, and she was easy and everything, but she looked at the ceiling the whole time teaching, mono-tone and made the entire semester out of 100 points which messed my grade up dramatically. she doesnt respond to emails and she is nice and everything, but boring just beware,sitting through class is a BIG chore

She is very dedicated to her profession, although a little flighty. Be sure to attend class as she will show no mercy towards your grade despite extra credit and circumstances.

Her lectures can be a little drawn out but pay as much attention as you can stand because the tests are almost straight from her lectures. Take good notes and really know the study guide she hands out and you will easily pass her tests. Not a super easy class but not a hard one either.

She knows her stuff and you can tell she loves the subject and everything about it. Show up for class, take notes, do the reading and you can get a decent grade. Sometimes she gets kind of a dreamy/dopey look for just a little while and smiles a lot.Very dedicated and helpful but not around on fridays. Very easy to look at ! She's hot !

An excellent professor in her specialization of Archeology. Her Arch class is much more informal than her Cultural. Regular attendance to her class and taking notes should easily be enough to succeed within her class, as the textbook was referred to but unnecessary. And she still has that habit of letting the class finish her sentences.

She is a lot easier than Mr. Publ. She is pretty knowledgeable, trained in Archeology. Readings are assigned for every class. There are a few movies. The class was interesting at all times. We looked at a diversity of groups around Earth. No major projects. Take some notes, do the readings, and you'll pass the tests and the class easily. Easy A.

Professor Hamlen is a great teacher, although the lectures can getting pretty bland at times. But overall, she's kind, smart and helps out whenever she can. Tests take quite a bit of studying, but definitely do-able.

Mrs. Hamlen is a great teacher! She is passionate about her subject, job and career. She has had a ton of experience working as an anthropologist in her past, and I am not a anthro. major but loved her and the class just the same! If youre only taking her as a gen-ed requirement or major class you wont be sorry!

interesting class.2 tests and a non cumulative final.Take notes on everything she says/writes because tests are not easy.make sure you do the study guide and read the book before each test.You also watch 4 movies and write mini papers on them which are very easy.go to class,take tons of notes,do the study guide,read,and study & you'll do fine!

This teacher was very knowledgable in her subject, and she taught the class well and stuck to the subject, but her tests were somewhat hard, and when you study for them, start a week in advance if you don't know the material.

Ms. Hamlen is a very good teacher. She is a very interesting person and is passionate about Anthropology. Attendance is not mandatory, but it is very beneficial as test questions come from notes given in class. Ms. Hamlen gives very helpful review guides for each exam and is available and willing to answer any questions.

DEF. would recommend! Her classes are only lectures and movies. There is NO homework. Only 4 exams, to which she hands out review sheets to which are 99% like the exam. I didnt even buy the textbook and I got a high B just by going to class and taking notes. She's really friendly and passionate. TAKE HER!

I found this class to be super interesting! she def knows her stuff and recomends tons of great books to read if youre interested in the subject. this class really inspired me, and it wasnt hard to earn an A. as long as u actually pay attn, do the work, and study that is.

This class is so boring. She is really nice and you can tell that she loves what she is teaching, but she just goes on and on. She wastes time by showing pictures and clips from books that do not even matter. I'd really only take the class if you are interested in the subject.

If you like an older style of teaching, you've come to the right place. I personally liked the fact that nothing in her class was online (it was nice for a change). Her lectures are pretty interesting and her tests come right from the lecture, no extra reading required. Overall, I greatly recommend her as a teacher for Anthology!

Wow what a fantastic professor. Class consisted of 4 exams, no HW, and 2 extra credit sheets with 5 questions from short films watched in class. Very kind teacher, shy, super easygoing, attendance not mandatory, lecture based. The things she taught us were ACTUALLY included in exams unlike in other classes I've taken. Loved her, I'd take her again!

Class is hell. Extremely boring but necessary. 5 papers to do that are all easy and the guidelines are given to you. Tests are simple as long as you show up to class and can manage to stay awake somehow.

Prof. Hamlen was very easygoing, shy, kind and showed true passion for the subject. Class is straight lecture all the way through & you just take notes. She gives study guides that is basically the whole test. There are 4 exams + 4 papers that are so easy, only 2 pages which she grades easy. Ur guaranteed A on all papers but tests are work so study

nice and passionate about the subject. doesn't mind getting off topic if its about what she loves. yes the lectures are boring, but she fits in field trips, movies and class discussions which make it more bearable. not much homework and the textbooks are actually kind of fun to read. if you LOVE the subject, you'll have that in common with her.

Unorganized, rude, not clear in her notes whatsoever, 90% chance her answer will always be "look it up in your book". I'm an A student and yet this is the worst teacher I've ever had. To get an A on tests you will have to teach yourself. Would NOT recommend.

She gave me a very bad advice in the beginning of the semester. She told me that I don't have to read the book because the study will have every topic that I need to know. However, once I took the first test, there were many questions that one could answer if he had read the book. Her lectures are horrible with very little organization. Good luck.

She's a nice professor but you need to read the textbook in order to receive an A. The notes only cover about half the material you need to study but even though a study guide is given, you need to study more than just the basic definition for the words, such as details and those are the difference between an A and B on tests.

Straight forward kind of teaching. I would advise going to class because the things she talks about in class are on the test. She gives you a study guide that has everything you need to know for the test. You have to write two mini essays for each test but it fairly easy. Lectures are a bit stale but try to keep focused and you'll learn a lot

She is very passionate about what she teaches. That being said, her lectures can be a bit boring. Only 4 exams and 2 chances for extra credit, so you must do well in all to achieve an A. She gives a study guide for all exams, but most items on it are from lectures, not book. I never once used my book.

reading the book will not help if you are not going to lectures I missed a few lectures and received horrible grades on the exams because she tests you on the specific examples given in class. the only grades for the whole semester are the three exams and then the final. only two opportunities for extra credit. good teacher but you must put in work

Didn't learn anything at the end of this class. Course has no clear purpose. Tribal, industrial and commercial world's talked about and overwhelming amount of small subtopics that she doesn't clarify or organize. Everything is so disorganized and there is no clear structure of the course. Study guides list broad topics only. Overall, waste of time.

She's a good teacher. She clearly loves her job and is very passionate about what she does. She is very clear and concise about what she is looking for throughout the semester, on the first day. She does not give any assignments. Youre grade is based solely on four exams (including final) and two extra credit worksheets for movies.

Good teacher, she knows her stuff but her lectures are extremely long and boring. You mostly sit for over an hour listening to her lecture and watch a film. There is never any class participation or group class collaborations. Despite the many diverse groupsstudents in the classroom, she does not ask about your background. A bit disappointed.

SHOW UP TO CLASS! The 4 exams are based on the lectures she gives in class. If you take notes and study, then you'll do just fine. Also, she gives extra credit before upcoming exams based on a film in class. Over all, the class is boring and put me to sleep every morning, do not take unless you enjoy anthropology.

Prof. Hamlen is so sweet, flexible, and caring. Don't buy the book, attend EVERY lecture and take good notes. Study guides review what's discussed in lecture/from handouts. Essay questions are memorization. Passionate about the subject and cares about her students. Easy A if you show up and study your notes. BEST ANTHRO PROFESSOR! Take her class!

Don't buy the textbook, her lectures pretty much cover the exams. Definitions on the lectures are literally word for word on the exams. She also gives a study guide on what you need to know for each exam. No homework, just four exams as your whole grade. If your grade is close to an A, she will round up. Overall, great teacher.

Overall, this class was an average experience. She wasn't the most engaging teacher, but she's very knowledgeable and passionate about what she teaches. Pay attention in lecture, follow the study guide, and turn in papers on time and you should have no problem getting an A.

There are 4 exams worth 100 points each. Every test has 70 multiple choice and matching questions, 2 essay questions . The book is not necessary, pay a lot of attention to the lecture and don't miss class, be on time. Make good notes, the class is challenging there are not enough assignments so be aware that you need to score high on the exams.

Prof Hamlen is very passionate about anthropology and it shows when she teaches. She is very sweet and the class isn't too bad. Readings are from the book, and there a few papers throughout the semester but they're more opinion-based from topics and movies we've discussed. She adds small details in her exams so study carefully.

She goes over all of the answers to the exams in the lectures. If you go to lectures and write down the info she gives you (there isn't too much) and memorize that, you're solid for the tests. Only 4 tests make up your grade, so go to class and study. I never bought the book and I got an A just by going to lectures.

Prof Hamlen was terrible. This was boring, draining, frustrating, and confusing. I asked for help multiple times and she is rude about it and often giggles. Her job is to help us succeed and she does not want to answer questions. I asked for clarification on something in the textbook, and she told me to go back to the textbook. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!

The WORST professor at Harper. I'm an A+ student and the way she teaches is awful. Exams are 80 questions, very dynamic and complex questions that are horribly written. This is a level 200 course, not a 400 level course Hamlen. Graded by only 7 things. She went to Harper, you would think she is a cool prof, but she's the opposite. Ruined my GPA.

She literally does not want to help you at all. When you ask for help on a paper or questions on the review, she literally refuses to help or answer. Avoid this professor at all costs. Tests are 80 questions. I can't stress enough how difficult this class is.

I loved Professor Hamlen's class, she made the topics become so interesting. She cares a lot about what she is teaching and makes sure we understand it before moving on. Had a lot of papers through the semester but most were only 3 pages. Shared a lot of videos in class to add to the lectures
