PJ is a great professor as well as a person. Her classes are WORTH YOUR TIME. She gives great examples and encourages discusions, trust me you'll have something to say or ask in her lectures. She's a big time expert on the subject and works hard to help students whose English is their second language. Study guides are really long though, and there isn't that much time given to plan for speeches it seems.Probably my most demanding class right now, but it can be laid back. Very easy on absences. She is a good teacher overall. I just felt that I had to be perfect on my speeches and I was just taking this class for my general ed. I would suggest her to the people who will major in communication. She did help me when I needed it but her grading on speeches were a little ridiculous.

Unlike some speech instructors, she isn't going to give you an easy pass just because you need her class to transfer. But she's extremely fair and well-organized, and you should be able to easily track your progress in her class. She expects a lot, but she gives a lot of helpful feedback. Work hard and you'll grow immensely as a public speaker.

She was great. I personally hate public speaking but in her class it wasn't that bad. The lectures were pretty boring but she made them as interesting as she could. She provides a study guide for the tests and as long as you look at those the tests aren't that bad. She's fun!

There's definetly a lot of work to be done in this class, it gets pretty demanding. She doesn't cut much slack but grades fairly. If you put a lot of work into it, you get a good grade and vice-versa. Class is pretty laid-back and she encourages you to work hard.

She is an easy teacher if you do the work. its straight forward. 3 speeches that require work and then a couple easy speeches. Allows other work(going to a speech tourny) to be done in place of the final. Overall easy just have to be there for each speech. Good teacher!

She is very structured and knowledgable about her field. She offers a lot of help and encourages you to work hard and practice. the only thing i had issues with is her grading on speeches. she's all about the delivery but she never says that until its too late. there are only 3 major speeches that require and real work. offers a lot of points.

Write and practice speeches, read the text and do the study guides. Actually try and you'll get an A. She lays it out for you. Just pay attention to that schedule. She's a good lady. Loves her daughters.

She's a great teacher and seriously knows what she's doing. Her expansive course materials and hand outs however,can initially deter people from the class. All the extra lecture CD's and DVD's seemed like a waste since hardly any of it was on the test and no one used them any way.Great teacher though, don't let all the extra stuff scare you.

PJ is an awesome professor! She really really cares about her students and is willing to work with you if you just talk to her. Her class schedule/syllabus seems overwhelming, but its not bad, its just everything for the semester up front. Was not looking forward to public speaking but she is awesome!

Shes chill. Homework is pretty easy. Tests are fairly easy. Shes tries to keep the class fun. Her lectures are better than other professors. She works with you. i give her a thumbs up.

The online quizzes ARE AWFUL!! This alone makes me hate the class.

PJ is one of the best teachers at SCC. She incorporates different styles of learning. Shes very organized. Has online quizzes (which she admits are hard, but you get unlimited tries) and has study guides for tests. Extremely helpful and knowledgeable about her subject. I wouldn't recommend any other comm professor!

Really great class! There's more homework and tests than expected for a public speaking class, but it really does help prepare you for the speeches.

More work than expected, not hard work, just a lot. Turn in all/most of your assignments on time to get an A. I got A's on all my speeches and still got a B in the class, mainly because I turned in assignments late. Again, not hard, but a lot of work. Writing speeches, practicing and preparing speeches, on-line quizzes, it all takes time.

When I first started class I was scared. We had to do about 5 speeches in front of the class which are neede to pass. I was terrified of public speaking but with Prof. PJ it was easy. She is so helpful if you need anything. She also is very quick to respond to any questions/ concerns. Awsome teacher!

Took this course due to needing to meet a requirement. DID NOT want to take it but I am glad I did. She is an excellent communicator and if you fail the class, you would have had to try and fail the class. She is personable and willing to give you every chance to succeed. Prof PJ is very nice and helpful if you have questions. My main issue was that she basically critiqued you in front of the class right after your speech. She told you all of the negative things you did, instead of focusing on the positive. But like I said, she's super nice and her class is actually kind of fun, even if COMM isn't your thing.

Professor PJ is awesome. Took a summer class with her and we ended up having only 15 people at the end, but shes great, i recommend taking her class!

Thought I would hate it & get a C, but got an A! I am horrible at public speaking (shy, low voice, nervous), but its possible cause 50% u get graded on quizzes, tests, some extra credit & speech grades are based on multiple things. Take her if you hate public speaking like me, you will leave more confident! She rocks!

I HATE speaking in front of people, so this class had me terrified. Until I met PHJ. She's a fantastic professor, made the whole class feel at ease and we learned to support each other with positive feedback and constructive criticism. I still don't like public speaking, but this class made me a lot less anxious about being in front of an audience.

If you want to improve your public speaking and speech making skills, then this is the class for you. She is a fair grader. Overall great class to take. Highly recommended.

PJ really cares about improving your communication skills, and because of this she grades hard. She is very helpful, especially for things you need to improve. I took COMM 361 and the class wasn't hard. You have 4 speeches(intro speech, demo speech, sales speech,& group speech)and the speeches weren't too bad. The only hard thing about this class is that you work with group members for your final speech. The tests are super easy and if you send her an email her response is almost automatic. Good teacher

I will genuinely miss this 7:30AM class, she was a great teacher and it was just a great group of students. By the end of the semester I gained a lot of confidence and now I enjoy public speaking. If she offers the speech tournament, do it! I did it twice and it was a great experience. An A is hard work, but the results are worth it. Goodluck.

Professor Jenkinson is an amazing teacher. At first it may seem like there is a lot with the all quizzes, but it isn't bad at all. She clearly states what she wants and does a great job with keeping students up to date with what is going on in the class. It was a very fun class and would highly recommend her. She is friendly, smart, and funny!

4 week summer class in 2015. Communication major. Lively discussions and engaging lectures, interacted great with classroom. Daily quizzes help keep you on track - nothing too difficult. 2 exams and a final which followed study guides to a "t". Not many drops and I think most of the class was a B average. Learn a lot. Have fun.

I really wasn't looking forward to a public speaking class, but Prof. HJ is extremely encouraging and supportive. She also tells you how it really is so that you know how to improve. I ended up enjoying the class and I felt a lot more confident at the end of the summer session that I took. If you have the textbook, the quizzes are a breeze.

She's an amazing teacher. Really makes you understand each concept and provides great feedback on your speech. 4-5 minor speeches, 2 main speeches, online quizzes, 2 online test and a final. I had PJ for Intro to public speaking Fall of 15 and she was such an amazing professor!! She may see "hard" on the first day of class but don't be frightened, she makes Public Speaking super fun! Most organized and techie prof here. Entire course of assignments, lectures & mandatory online videos already laid out on her webpage the 1st day of class. Online quizzes & tests. Seems overwhelming at first but you will be fine because the nature of this class forces you to become fast friends with classmates. Very positive, clear, & encouraging.

She is very strict at the beginning. YOU HAVE TO PURCHASE TOP HAT for the class. She does all her attendance and quizzes on there. Requires the book, but don't need it. Quizzes are based on her video lectures she does on Youtube. She does lecture in class. Test are online, Group project presentation at the end of semes. No FINAL, NO Midterm.

Professor PJ is a true inspiration. I took her 4 week summer class which don't get me wrong was a bunch of work, but worth all of it! You learn so much in a short period of time. Her lectures were never boring I'd like to say it is the best class I've taken at SCC with the best professor. Stay on top of your work, study and an A is achievable.

First of all, it's Interpersonal Communication, so if you don't like getting too touchy-feely and introspective, this class is probably not for you. Her course is basically aimed at a younger student mind, so if you're older, be prepared. She uses Top Hat, so get that too. Otherwise, lots of group activity in-class, and you'll read lots of text.

There is a bit of work that has to be put in as far as writing and involvement. If you want to pass keep track of assignments. She really tries to make it fun and understandable to students; very thorough and inventive.

I was scared at first, but this class is not scary at all! It is a very welcoming environment. Prof PJ is a great professor. (If you have a Friday class, know that this is a HYBRID CLASS). Note: her instructions are long because they contain all helpful details needed. 3 tests (EC can replace lowest/missing test score) + 2 major speeches.

PJ is a cool teacher, and made public speaking a little more bearable. I learned a lot from her, but her class required a lot of work. We had 2 individual speeches, and 1 group speech (sucks). We had 3 unit tests, and some chapter quizzes that could substitute for a test. She requires us to watch video lectures at home, and buy an app worth $26.

I took Prof. PJ for public speaking and was really happy with what I learned. The class is well structured, clearly outlined, and follows through on its objectives. Prof PJ is a nice lady, but not a pushover. Come to class, do your homework, and try your hardest on the speeches, you will pass. If not, do the extra credit!

Professor PJ is an Ace on being punctual and prepared. Make sure you do not miss any presentations or you'll end up feeling the consequences. One Group Project that could have a substantial impact on your grade so be sure to stay on top of things. A quiz is due almost every class(sometimes 2 or 3), but you will learn quality content in her class.

This is a mandatory class. Prof. PJ will set you up right when it comes to COMM. She wants you to succeed and she will do EVERYTHING to see you get that A. She gives great feedback, fair feedback, harsh at times, but you need to hear it. She was perfect in the pandemic and perfect in person. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! I could go on and on!!

Prof PJ ROCKS! I took her online mass media class and it was so well organized. She is super accessible and replies very fast. She makes her expectations clear and gives really good feedback on your discussion boards and essays. There are a lot of discussion board posts and reading, so beware. Gives plenty of opportunity to pass. Really heavy on the busy work but its not hard, check canvas turn in your assignments and you'll do really well. Super understanding and passionate professor who is very detail oriented.

I only gave her a 4 because she wasn't that memorable to me, but she is incredibly kind. Criteria is clear, gives great and helpful feedback, quizzes/tests aren't difficult. Go for her, she's great!

Required participation in discussion boards and quizzes twice weekly. A few papers and exams throughout. I didn't find the lectures until halfway through the class, but still got an A. Lecture or book, either will help you. Plenty of opportunities for extra credit. Enjoyable and fun. Do the small talk zoom sessions, they're fun too!

As far as an online comm class I would say it was pretty good. If you have anxiety they are really nice and will help you through it. They give a lot of extra credit. They grade kinda strict on little things, but if I had to chose Id take them again. You have to meet in groups so if you work pay attention to everyones schedules in the beginning.

I took Professor P.J for a couple different communication classes last semester and overall learned a few valuable things and thought the homework was manageable. If you're looking up a professor to select a COMM class, I would definitely recommend taking her class. 100%

I took an online 8-week class. I'll say she did a very good job stretching out the work and quizzes for most of the course. We had a total of 3 Exams, that summed all of the minor quizzes you'd do throughout each week. However, in the last 2 weeks, she squeezed 2 exams which were very stressful. Other than that, I didn't have much trouble.
