Really nice and easy to talk to.
Makes herself available to help all students and is a very sweet lady.
She's a wonderful teacher. She's not the easiest but she's not the hardest. She's very clear about what she wants and expects, but is willing to help you in any way possible. I loved her class!!

Very clear teaching. Easy to understand and what she wants..
She is quite funny and at times seems light hearted, but if you talk while there are others taking a quiz or a test, she will kick you out of class immediately. She is helpfull but we had to write 6 papers. As long as you follow the instructions and know your grammar you will do well. I did.

At first she was intimidating, but you will soon find out that she is a very nice person. She is very willing to help and she has high standards. She gives a lot of reading and papers, but it is enjoyable. I got an A.
THE ONLY NEGATIVE THING I HAVE TO SAY IS ABOUT HER ATTENDENCE POLICY, WHICH SHE HAD TO ADOPT FROM THE DEPARTMENT. BE SURE TO TAKE THIS CLASS AT A TIME THAT IS CONVENIENT FOR YOU. IF YOU MISS MORE THAN 3 DAYS, YOU FAIL NO MATTER WHAT.
awesome teacher. She requires you to work, but is very interesting and helpful along the way. I rec. this teacher to anyone, she's very kind and you will feel like you got something out of her class!!
DO NOT LET ANYONE FOOL YOU!! This is the worst english class and the worst teacher I have ever taken. be prepared to re-learn everything you thought you knew about english. And no im not doin badly in the class, and I didnt write this out of hate. Im just being honest. AVOID THIS WOMAN AND CLASS LIKE THE PLAIG.
Mrs. Heintzelman is a tough teacher, but is also helpful. It seems as though the class is really hard at first, but she grades fairly easy. If you don't make a good grade on a paper, there are plenty of quiz grades to help you. Overall she isn't too bad!
She is super helpful. Make sure you always read the assignment she gives you becasue there is always a quiz, spark notes do not work!!! Dont worry about the quizzes, she omits some on each test. If you ever have any questions or dont understand anything, she always offers for you to come by her office, email her, or talk to her after class.
On the Second Day of class she was giving the THIRD QUIZ. What is up with that??? Too much work for one class. You MUST read everynight to pass!!!
Mrs. Heintzelman really isn't TOO bad. Shes a very nice lady. Her class isn't too boring, but it's almost there. She grades SORTA easy...i made some silly grammar mistakes on my essays and paid for them, but there were many quizzes to make up for them. Overall shes a cool teacher. I recommend her to anyone who is an OKAY writer.
this was the best english class ive taken. there was a lot of work but she graded easily and i felt like i actually learned something about english. definitely recommend
Mrs. H wants all of her students to succeed. She expects students to be on time and do the work. There are quizzes everyday, but she grades on a curve. I got 100% on all but one quiz. If you want to learn to be a good writer, take her class
She is a very nice, helpful teacher. There are a bunch of quizes but she curves them. She brings out the talented writers in all of her students, so if u want to be an excellent writer, take her!!
Gives way to much work. Quizzes at least twice a week (30+ questions). Sometimes e3 quizzes in one day. Gives too much work. She acts ass if we are her only class. The lady is mean in the classroom but the nicest person in her office hours. Takes off way too many points for petty stuff
did not like this Mrs. H!! She gives tons of work and treats you like english is the only thing you do outside class! I do not recommend taking her, but she is very clear and informative.
I in a may mini and it was DEFIANTLY WORTH IT!! Class was 4.15min M-F & after that we had to go home and do an additional 3hrs of reading each night but it only lasted 10days so if you know how to stay focused i would defiantly recommend taking her!! It would be soo much harder to keep up in a regular semester plus we covered less material...
She's a great teacher, but the amount of work she gives is ridiculous... try to avoid this class Fall/Spring semester.
She's gives A LOT of work. I had trouble understanding what she wanted in her papers. She curves quizzes which is nice but she butchers papers. Lots of reading required and she's always hyped up on coffee. I wouldn't recommend her unless you absolutely love English.
Mrs. H is very inconsiderate of your other classes and absences. Her work load is incredibly unreasonable and the time she allots for you to complete work is completely ridiculous. I thought i would fail because of her workload and very high expectations. Avoid her class at all costs. She will be the death of your GPA if you do not work hard.

She is scary and attendance for that class is critical. If you are absent there will be serious consequences. I warn you to not take her class. She does not seem to work well with her students.
She is a very tough teacher! Attendance is VERY important in this class. She doesn't give examples of anything that she wants you to do. Steer clear of this class at all costs!!
A lot of people think she is hard because they don't put enough effort into her class. She always puts due dates on things, but they wind up getting pushed back a lot. We've only read a couple of works and only written three essays. She's also blind as a bat so you can work on just about anything in her class.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! The workload is a ridiculous amount and she acts like this is your only class. final exam is textbook cover to cover and everything in between. ATTENDANCE IS STRICT.
She's fast & was hard to take notes for; she's thorough & loves English. If English isn't your thing, then you're going to have to work harder in her class. She's not scary if you do what is needed & are nice: work with her & she'll work with you, so use her office hours! She is a stickler for MLA & her final was tedious and too long. I loved her.
Her 1302 class contains two forms of work: (1.)Reading of short stories/other works, and taking quizzes on them. (2.)Three research papers: Two 3-pagers, and a 5-pager. The 5-Page research paper is worked on for over a month and has a TON of meticulous requirements/rules. You must make a 60+ on the paper or you fail the course no matter what.

If you really love writing then you will enjoy her class. She is very strict about attendance and has alot of rules for the papers. Nice lady.
Not a fun class and many assignments, but she does help improve writing skill. She also allows you to bring in your paper to her to view before grading.
She is rude and I don't recommend taking her class at all, it doesn't make a difference if you are prepared and pass the quizzes she likes to fail students. Horrible and Unethical!
Very strict about attendance. If you miss a lot you will fail. She gives a lot of assignments, but all English teachers at Lamar do. She can be helpful. She will read your paper and help you fix it. Need the book to read all the stories. Honestly if you read the stories, show up to class, and have her read you paper then you will pass the class.

Mrs. H is very strict in regards to attendance and what should be included in the essays, but it's only to help the students. Honestly, if you pay attention and go to class and put some effort in, you'll pass with no problem.
I loved Mrs. H as a person but not as a professor. You write 3 essays for the semester, I know that doesn't sound like a lot but trust me, it is. I got through this class but I will not be taking her for 1302. Her class is very stressful and we never stayed on schedule with the course calendar.
Mrs H. is a great professor. She may seem a bit strict but she is a very sweet lady. Attendance is mandatory and the essays assigned will need to meet specific requirements. She proof reads your paper before turning it in and she usually tells you everything you did wrong. Easy A if you actually care about your schoolwork
If you ask her for help, she'll be very clear and informative of what she expects from you in the assignments. Essays play a big part in this class, and she's a tough grader. My advice is to check blackboard daily, print out everything she uploads, and DO NOT SKIP CLASS (ATTENDANCE IS CRUCIAL!) This isn't a blow off class.
Mrs. H is such an amazing person, but difficult professor. BRING LITTLE BROWN DAILY and you will have to write 3 essays. She expects way too much for a required core class, and is constantly caught up in her Honors programs. Her instructions are written out, and you must follow them to a T. She must not believe students have other classes. HARD
Negatives: Tough teacher, tough grader, and you better go to class! Positives: She knows what she's doing, Will help you whenever you need, Will actually teach you something useful for future references. You NEED the Little Brown book everyday. Essays and group projects were the death of me! GOOD LUCK if you take her!
I ended up having to drop the class after a long string of unfortunate events kept me from class. Not because of attendance (she gives up to 4 excused absences), but because she doesn't allow makeup work. The only way to makeup work is to talk to her to plan in advance. That would be easy and simple, if she bothered to check or respond to emails.
This is the worst teacher I have ever had. She does not give great feedback on your essays and she also tends to cancel office hours a lot. If you can avoid taking her please do.
she's VERY tough, but she's actually pretty nice. If you go to her office hours she will really help you out on everything. The essays are very intense, and you will have lots of quizzes .She also gives pop quizzes over instructions she gives over papers and the syllabus. Take this class very seriously. It hard, but its possible to pass.
Here is the thing about this lady. 1. She gives out so much work! You get three narrative essays and a research paper! You also have to do a presentation that you wont present until the end of the semester. 2. She is a terrible person for feedback! She will maybe keep her feedback until your final. 3. She expects you to have your book. SMH!
Please do not take this professor unless their is not any other options left. Assignments will be due one day and when you get to class it will not be due till the next time you meet. DO NOT MISS CLASS UNLESS THEIR IS A NO WAY YOU CAN MAKE IT. Her grading is extremely hard espically when it comes to essay's. Homework 7 days even on school breaks.
She was a very rude professor. She did not care for her students. She would not help you, if you could not make it to her office hours.
I took her for English 1301 and plan to take her for 1302. Show up to class, participate and attempt to do all of the work and you will pass. Of course it isn't easy but it is very do-able. She will meet with you during her office hours and set up a different time if you can't do that. Alot of my classmates didn't like her but they also didn't try.
Bad teacher don't take her or you will fail
I did not learn a single thing from this class. The class period is spent grading each other's at home quizzes & listening to other people give presentations. She does not give clear instructions for assignments & is rude when her instructions are misinterpreted. If you are late to her class she will not accept your work, so don't take her 8 a.m.

DO NOT TAKE HER UNLESS IT'S ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. She is very unclear about what she wants in the essays. She just expects you to know exactly what she wants. She is very sweet outside of class, but will not hesitate to let you know when you're wrong and make you look stupid. Failed almost all essays.

Took her for a May mini. She was alright. I say tough grader because I thought I had an A, but my final grade was a B. The class wasn't that bad. Just do your work.
Cool person hard teacher
She is the sweetest person if you get to talk to her outside of class. Yes she is a hard teacher who is a tough grader but she is so willing to help you with anything that you need. If you want to make an A in that class you must work for your grade and really try your best. She really helps you improve as a writer,you wont regret taking her class!
One of my favorite professors. If you come to class she will go leaps and bounds to help you. Dont come to class late, do NOT play on your phone. Listen to what she has to say, she will see you respect her and she will help you out. Gives a lot of curves if you actually show up to class and on time!
shes doesn't take late work. make sure you show up to class everyday or you will fail. alot of wrighting had essays every two weeks the last one was a book report and it was alot of work. make sure you go to her office hours for help because shes willing to give you ideas. there is always pop quiezes sometimes she does not warren you.
I got my first A in English with her (FIRST omg). We only had to do like 4 essays for the semester, and several of them were fairly short. Beware her grammar quizzes make sure to study for them. I particularly loved her because she gives the right amount of tough love imo. Prepare to be lost if you skip.
She is a very tough grader and you will have a hard time in the class, attendance does matter, but if you start to get on her good side and put in the work, you'll be good in the long run.
She is a very hard teacher and has mandatory zoom classes. There is quiz almost every class and you are constantly writing essays. She does not give notes, she just talks the whole class. She is a slow grader, give back quiz grades in a timely manner but not the test or essays. Make sure to do your work when you get it or you will be behind.

However, she is more than willing to help you if you ask, attend office hours if you are struggling. Shes a very sweet person and wants you to learn but she doesnt cut you much slack, expect to work for your grade.
Mrs Hientzelman is a sweet lady, but if you don't have a good writing background from high school do not take this class!!!! this class is more about testing your previous knowledge more than learning new material. Tough grader and you don't know where you stand in the class till the final grades are posted. Would not take again ever.
I am an excellent English student but she was DIFFICULT. I do not recommend this class if you arent very good at writing or grammar. She is a very tough grader and you do not know your grade until its time for grades to be finalized.
I enjoyed her class. I took her online with zoom classes and we had to have our camera on and we were called on regularly. Assignments were few and quizzes were easy if you read the material.
Mrs. Heinstelman is a good teacher. There is quite a bit of reading. She makes it clear in her classes that you can write the best essay, but if you don't follow her specific instructions, you will not be happy with your grade. As she says, you have an A until you give it away. There is a lot to get done in this class, but you shouldn't be swamped.
Professor doesnt tell you your grade average until the end of the course.
She is a teacher that loves to hear herself talk. She is a bit confusing a lot of the time. She is very boring so if you take her 8 AM class, DONT. The number one thing I hate is that she doesn't keep up with grades so you don't know your grade until the last day of the semester. She will say that you have to keep up with your own grades.
To be straightforward and clear, I never liked English but this professor definitely made my hate for English even bigger. She will expect you to be in the zoom meeting until the very end of class. You won't know what grade you have until the end of the semester when final grades are due. If you have the option to take another professor, take it.
Literally the worst English teacher I have had. She is a very tough grader if you dont do things to her liking you wont pass. You wont know your grade until the grades are due at the END of the semester. If you have the choice to pick a teacher do it!
She is absolutely horrible! She is very confusing. Be prepared to write 5 rough drafts per essay. One of the essays is an argumentative essay and she makes you find so. many. sources.
worst teacher I have ever had. Doesn't answer your emails, if she does she tells you to come to office hours. If you do not go to office hours you will not make an A. Picky about EVERYTHING. If you ask for help, tells you to go to the writing center. The exam (100 questions) and final exam(200 questions) doesn't teach you just suspect you know it.
Extremely difficult course if you are not well-versed in composition classes. You have to learn exactly how she wants her papers and do it exactly how she has it on the rubric. she is not a super tough grader and it was relatively easy to keep my A in this class. As long as you show up to class and complete your work you should be okay.
Very picky on essays. Ask questions on ANYTHING you are unsure of. Leave before she dismisses you=absent. She does not like when you are on the phone. Read poems very closely for quizzes.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS, she allows no late assigments, even if you are unable to make it to class and turn it in. She wants every essay written exactly her way and refuses to accept anything if it is not written exactly how she wants it. She gives a lot a assignments and homework and often does not give you much time to do them.
SHE IS THE WORST ENGLISH PROFESSOR YOU'LL EVER CHOOSE. she wants to be right so bad even when she is wrong. She grades wrongfully. If you're late with a min she'll mark you absent. Once again, I'll advise you not to choose her as your professor if you like yourself and your mental health.

It's been over 10 years, and I still remember how terrible she was. The professor I signed up for got fired, and she was the replacement. She demanded 8 sentence introductions and class participation. Further, any subject that was discussed in class would be consider plagiarism, even if you were the one to bring it up. Dropped in under a week.
Mrs. Heintzelman is a poor teacher. She is very lenient with herself but not her students. Extremely slow grading, passive aggressive tone, and little respect for her students. She also posted many quizzes the night before they were due. If you have the choice, do not take her class.
she expects too much from you being a comp 1301 and doesn't give the vibe back. you have 3 essays and a huge book to read and quiz over every class. my 2nd essay rough draft, she did not even finish help correct my mistake after the first page and told another kid look over it. she doesn't fully explain and assumes you know it. !nice out of class!
Don't get me wrong, shes a nice lady, but for your own sanity Please do not take her class, especially her composition 2 course. She forgets a lot and has very high expectations. Shes very essay heavy and the essays are extremely particular and difficult. She'll randomly change rules. I've never met a person whos made over an 80 on the essays.
Genuinely a tough class and in my opinion be ready to print an ungodly or an unnecessary amount of paper.
She seems daunting at first, but I promise she gets better! She has a lot of quizzes (we took one almost every day) and they counted for 60% of my grade--Originally 50% but she changed it. She drops the two lowest at the end of the semester and she always curves them pretty heavily. She's entertaining to discuss the stories with IF YOU READ THEM.
This class was genuinely one of the worst experiences with a professor I've had. She did not follow her syllabus due dates at all. She also gets her MWF and TuThur classes dates mixed up constantly so pay attention. Don't be late (even though she was constantly) or you will be marked absent, don't try to leave early, she will mark you absent.
Honestly she wasn't terrible but definitely could have been better! She is bad with communication and never stays on task with her syllabus! Also she has a habit of telling each student something different and losing papers or “forgetting” them!
We had to read SO MUCH. Sometimes 100 pages in between class days. I had her MWF and we would always have the most in depth quizzes. She would curve them pretty heavily, but I wouldn't recommend her. She did not actually teach us anything, all she did was we would have discussions based on our reading but like I feel like Ididn't learn anything new
She is an understanding person, but doesn't go into detail very well about what she wants from students for their papers.
Never ever ever EVER take her composition classes, she expects way too much from you in only a couple days, and expects you to do so much research and finish it all in a day or two, then sometimes will spring a random essay to write in one class period on you. Not fun at all.
In my opinion i would take her again. The course consisted of 3 essays, a bunch of quizzes, and little to no clear instructions from the professor. She also takes a while to put grades in.
She does attendance right on time so if you're not there in the seat when she's doing it you will not be counted present. When it comes to the essays she grades very hard and critique on a lot of stuff within the essay. If you take her course please be prepared to read a lot and have unexpected quizzes. Also you will be printing A LOT of papers!!
I am still currently in this class but by far this is the worst english class i have ever taken. The only reason i took her a second semester because she made it seem as though other classes would want extra work so i was manipulated. Whole time it was her giving extra work and she is very power hungry. Everything she does is simply for control.

A very nice lady on her own, and I enjoy side chats with her. However, I disagree with her methods of making and grading essay assignments. For example: The requirement of AI usage for research and requiring wording that goes against proper grammar.
