She is a NICE person. However, she's not a very good teacher. Tests are easy. You will have pop quizzes every Thursday. Take her.. the class is boring if you are not interested in psychology at all.
Janes is so nice! Her tests are all multiple choice and 3 "essay" questions which are really a maximum of 6 sentences. No study guide, but makes it clear whats on the test. DO THE READING! and go to class. This class is not bad if you do the work.
Janes seems alright in class but the tests are hard and half the questions seem to come from no where. she doesnt prepare you well for the test - she expects you to know the whole chapter although she tells you to focus on certain things. i studied for each test very hard but still found questions on the test unfair.
Dr. Janes is full of energy and loves to teach. She knows the material very well and is available in her office when she's not in class. She is great and expects a lot from her students....great professor!!
Janes is not too hard, tends to put more emphasis on infants than anything else. Also, tends to focus more on her research interests than the actual important concepts. She tends to lose her train of thought a good bit. Tests are all multiple choice and not too hard, about average.
She is very entertaining and everything is done by powerpoint. The only thing you really need to know for tests are the terms in the chapter and you'll get an A. Should go to class but can still get a good grade if you do terms. She tells you everything you need to know for the test. Great teacher, take her class!
Prof. Janes loves psychology, so she's really helpful when you have a question and actually knows what she's talking about. There's alot of information and the tests are pretty hard, but if you pay attention and take notes you should be alright. wouldn't really recommend this class to someone who wanted an easy A,but if interestedin psych, takeher
Dr. Janes is absolutely USELESS. She's nice but if you're serious about psychology DO NOT TAKE HER. She makes up answers to questions if she doesn't know the answer and won't admit it if she's done something wrong (aka on a test). But I got an A in the class by doing barely any work.
Awesome professor, very helpful, great personality.
Shes extremely biased towards students she likes and doesnt like. If she doesnt like you, she wont give you the score you deserve. I made 90s on each exam and she still scored me with a C+, after I spoke with her about it she told me she didnt like my attitude. Extremely unfair, ESPECIALLY when i made 90s on her exams! DO NOT TAKE HER.
24/7 caffeine rush. Her lectures are good, and I do OK on tests. Makes you read articles and write reports on them. Will not apologize for her errors on tests, but she is a nice prof. If you can take thee nagging, take her.
Professor Janes is so nice. This class is NOT an easy A but if you do the work and actually pay attention, it really isn't that difficult. I had a high A in the class without much difficulty. Show up to class and do the work and actually put some effort in and she will really help you out.
I like her. Her class is not easy because the subject embodies so much information. It takes a while to get used to her voice. If you are just looking for an easy teacher she isnt for you, but if you want to learn a lot, she is the teacher for you. I am impressed every class by her. She knows all the material like the back of her hand. She's good.
Prof Janes is awesome. I had her for 103 and am glad I took her again. She recognizes your hard work if you try and will set you up with study groups (gets you MAJOR brownie points). She isn't an easy A but if you put enough effort into it, you can get an A and learn a lot.
If you ask questions you'll do well. She isn't very hard and her tests are scantron. I didn't buy the book and I still got a B+ but I wouldn't recommend not getting it.
Janes is a very good teacher. she has powerpoints for every class which is pretty much all you need to study for the tests. it is a TON of material but if you work hard for it you can get an A. She loves participation and you get alot of little grades on ch questions which helps with low test scores. id recommend her. you will learn A LOT!
She is amazing!! Loves class participation, lots of assignments to help with your grade. Just read the Chapters and Go to class and it is easy!!
She pretty much made me decide I want to go into developmental psychology. She is a really good teacher. There are some papers and a few all multiple choice tests. Pretty simple but very interesting.
She's a good teacher. She puts all her powerpoints online, so attendance is definitely not mandatory. She lets you tell stories in class. The tests are easy. There is a lot of reading, but it's very easy to make an A in this class.
Professor Janes is very caring, passionate and thorough. She does powerpoint lectures that are online and you have 4 one page papers that are due every two weeks. I know that sounds like a lot but you don't need to look up sources and you paste the question at the top. Grading is fair and fairly lenient. I highly recommend her.
Great class! Dr. Janes covers the material thoroughly and is always willing to expand to answer additional questions. Great Professor! Take her class!
She gives you all the notes online. You have to complete weekly writing assignments but they are only one page and she grades lightly. Her tests are all multiple choice and she copies and pastes questions from past tests to make the final. Take her!
Janes is one of the WORST professors I've ever taken. She reads straight from powerpoints and does not actually teach at all. She'll never admit when she's wrong about something on a test. I was really excited about taking Developmental Psyc, and she definitely ruined it for me. Don't take her if you actually want to get something out of this class
I love Professor Janes! She's organized, puts powerpoints on oaks, easy journals/projects, mult choice tests(3-4 free answers each test).. just go to class, participate and pay attention. she wants her students to do well and loves teaching developmental. she's awesome-take her!
Attendance isn't required bc its 20 of 900 semester points and she usually spends class lecturing from her powerpoints which she puts online. Two projects that were easy and somewhat interesting: child observation and a semi-structured interview of an elderly person. About 12 journal entries that should be 2 pages typed DS. 4 MC tests and final.
Into psych was easy in general, and her powerpoints were very helpful. She can get a little eccentric sometimes and in your face, and if you use a laptop in class, make sure to still pay attention because she will call you out and make you feel awkward
My favorite professor at CofC! She is extremely helpful if you go to her office hours. Prof Janes wants her students to do well and that is apparent in class. I learned more than I ever thought I would. TAKE HER!
YOU WILL READ THE ENTIRE BOOK! You have to to do well on her exams. I think this is the first time she's taught cognitive, bc class was extremely disorganized and random. She's a bit polarizing, and she's one of those that forces you to talk to your neighbor. There's a group project that is a PITA, but she's willing to help during office hours
After a rocky start, I would have to say I ended up really enjoying this class. It was a lot of work but it made the tests easier and forced you to be firmiliar with the material. will definitely take another one of her courses.
BEST PROF @ CofC. So helpful, and ready and willingly to work with you over anything, missed class, missed assignments, everything. Makes the class fun, developmental is her specialty. gives a lot of insight. entertaining and keeps the class fun. do you work (journals) and you will make an A!
Waste of my tuition. She had no idea what cogpsyc is, always ignoring students questions and skipping through powerpoints. Project was absurd, as well as her tests. the only way to study is to read the whole book. She incited a class riot at the end of the semester. AVOID FOR COGNITIVE!!
I'm sure she wasn't planning on teaching our class, we got the first half of our syllabus probably 3 weeks into the semester. She was all over the place, never fully explained the powerpoints she sped through like it was a race, and she was nit-picky on projects that she gave very vague directions for. I did get an A, but I won't take her again.
Stay away! She's a nice lady, but she really doesn't teach. In order to pass her tests you have to read and remember every word of every chapter included. She spends class talking about nothing, easy projects, then 15 minutes at the end going over material. If you love reading and have an incredible memory, go for it.
Literally one of the worst professors I've had at CofC.
Amazing. One of my favorite professors I've ever had. Originally I was not doing well in the class and she was great about meeting for office hours and whenever I had questions. She's very encouraging and lays all the information out very well. The class is also very interesting and you can tell she really loves her job. Great professor.
Great teacher. One of my favorites. She was very helpful in and out of the class room and I found her very motivated to teach and help her students. Definitely take her if you have the chance!
She really cares about the well being of every student in her class which made me love her class even more. You can tell she really loves her job and the field of Psychology she works in. Do the chapter questions because it guidelines what will be on every test and read over her PowerPoints. Easy A or B based on the effort you put into the class!
Dr. Janes is a very overbearing woman. She will call you out at least once and embarrass you. Doesn't really teach. Other than that the class is easy, just read literally every word of the textbook. Attendance is mandatory, not sure why though.
Will embarass you on purpose just for asking a question, which you shouldn't because she will only say "look in the book."
Loved her! She has a very entertaining and quirky personality - got a laugh or two every class. HAVE to study for the tests, but if you apply yourself you'll do fine. Also many extra credit options. Deff taking her for an upper level course!
Nice teacher, very strong personality that takes some getting used to. Not too hard if you keep up with the readings and assignments.
DO NOT USE YOUR PHONE. SHE WILL HATE YOU FOR THE REST OF THE SEMESTER.
Extremely easy class, but i don't really think you can describe Janes as a "professor"...more of a warm body in the room. Literally did not lecture the entire semester, tin stead she wasted time talking about problems that weren't even there. Go to her office hours and write down answers from tests, her final is all of the old tests combined.
Dr. Janes is highly interested in student success, so long as the students appear equally invested. She actively encourages discussion of all material and does not hesitate to engage students. This can lead to 'hurt feelings', often because students are unaccustomed to being questioned. Sounds like Jamie Lee Curtis. In short, a great professor.
Professor Janes is a great teacher, as long as you're actually interested in Psychology. Her slideshows are interesting, and I wouldn't call the class boring. She kinda talks your ear off sometimes. If you miss something, as long as you have a doctor's note, she will let you make it up. Would recommend. Also, you better enjoy reading long chapters.
Very straight forward. If you show up, do the assignments, & study her power points for the test you'll get an A.
Professor Janes lectures the entire class and sometimes goes off on a tangent that doesn't relate to the topic. She grades different people differently. However, her tests are not that hard. she gives hints about what will be the main things on there. (follow the PowerPoint)
Professor Janes lectures the whole class. She treats her students like they are still in high school. Her tests are extremely hard, but her final exam is so easy. Just study her power points online and you should be fine. I wouldn't take her again though.
She's difficult, but its obvious she wants you to fully understand the material. Lots of reading, online homework, and studying. She's always open to meet with you and help when you need it. The class wasn't easy, but she was understandable.
I had her for Cognitive Psyc. Her lectures are hard to follow-she jumps around and focuses on her favorite topics (LANUAGE DEVELOPMENT!). If you read the text, study, and DO the assignments, you'll do fine! She WANTS you to do well. She's an extremely fair grader.
Janes is the least bit of helpful and taught me absolutely nothing. If you do not read the entire textbook you're basically screwed because I went to every class and was still struggling. Her whole class is a favorites game and I would not recommend it. There are NO study guides, not even for the 110 point final! Don't take this class, it blows.
Professor Janes really is a worthless professor. It is the most volume heavy course I have taken at CofC and the absolute majority of it is busy work. Her tests are hard and there are always a few poorly written or tedious questions. She will not allow you to argue your point on them. Would NEVER take her again.
Attendance is mandatory, though I could never figure out why as I learned nothing in class. She's extremely disorganized and enjoys assigning busy work. She also enjoys "discussion" even if it's not relevant to cognitive psych. It's not a hard class if you teach yourself from the textbook and do the assignments, but it is a time consuming one.
Professor Janes is in no way an "easy" professor, she expects a lot out of her students. But she is fair, and pushes you to really learn the material. Her knowledge of attachment is profound, so that always makes a class more interesting. If you're looking for an easy A, don't take Janes.. if you're prepared to put in effort, you'll love her.
Dr. Jane's is an amazing professor. She definitely makes you work for your grade, and it isn't an easy a, but she will help you when you need it (and you get extra credit for going in to see her). Just buy the online code, you can access the textbook from there. Online homework, and some pop quizzes. Test are difficult but the final is old tests.
Had her for intro and lifespan and I learned a lot. As long as you show interest and put effort into it you will be fine. She can be tough sometimes but she really does care. Class is very organized and assignments are well explained. You must read a lot to do well on the tests but the topics are pretty interesting. Go over your old tests for final
Dr. Janes is not an easy professor by any means, but a fair one. She makes you work for the grade you receive, but what's new- it's college. If you review the material from her lectures and keep up with the LaunchPad activities and textbook readings, you'll do fine. She prepares you well for any psych classes you plan to take beyond 103.
Awful professor! She made the class so much more difficult than it had to be. A TON of busy work, loves giving students a hard time and will call you out in front of the class if you do not do something to her liking. Very rude, and unreasonable. Would never want her as a teacher again.
Her projects were interesting and fun, but she wanted the weekly journals to be VERY specific. Tough grader and very critical. Kinda weird and funky. Her tests were decent as long as you studied and read the textbook.
Dr. Janes is very fair and won't give you a hard time if you follow the guidelines for every assignment. Easiest class of my freshman year. Do the launchpad assignments and review the powerpoints before each exam and it'll be a breeze
Wonderful lady and an incredible teacher. Took her for into to psych and loved it so much I changed my major to it. Will make to time to meet with you out of class if you can't fit her office hours. Makes material interesting and easy to understand. Lots of notes but the tests are straight off of them
Janes is a pretty good professor. A little quirky. Her class isn't that bad, a lot of reading required. She will call you out and not even think twice about it. She can come off as kind of runs and unreasonable but she means well. She gives multiple extra credit opportunities and the course material is pretty interesting.
Dr. Janes is amazing. She's tough sure, but she really cares about her students. This is a 200 level class and she will constantly remind you of that. Don't take her assignments as a joke, she will call you out during class but if you read and take notes it shouldn't be an issue, DONT USE YOUR PHONE IN CLASS. Most interesting class I've taken.
I thought I was going to enjoy this class but the moment the lecture started I regretted everything. She's rude and inconsiderate. Maybe that's her way of things, I don't know. All I know is I dreaded going to her class.
She's a great teacher and very understanding. Makes the material interesting and easy to understand. What we talk about in class is going to be on the test, no surprises. Actually cares about her students and is very passionate about the subject. Definitely would take again.
Dr. Janes is tough, but her course material is very interesting. If you work hard in her course, you'll do well. Dr. Janes is entertaining and I enjoy her attitude. Her knowledge in developmental psychology is informative and helpful during lectures. She wants to see her students working for their grades. Whatever you do, don't miss class!
The subject was interesting but she barely talked. The class consisted of student presentations and her talking about nothing of value or importance. It was very frustrating because she gave us a lot of work but I did not learn anything from her. I learned more from reading the book during class than I did from her.
At first I really did not like her at all but once I went to her office hours after doing poorly on a test she gave me 10 extra points for coming to see her!! She appreciates her students taking their time to go to her and ever since then she is by far one of the best teachers I've ever had. The tests are relatively easy if you study.
This is the second of Dr. Jane's courses I've taken. I took her for Intro Psych and loved her and I am now taking her for Lifespan Development. She is very helpful outside of class in her office hours- I encourage going often! Do not expect an easy A. 224 requires a LOT of reading and studying outside of class. Great prof!
Janes was a pretty interesting professor. had high expectations for a 100-level class but as the unit went on, the topics got more intriguing. gives 3 tests (pretty hard)although doesn't tell you what to know for it - expects you to go over powerpoints. easy A if you do all the work, esp the online chapters.
I took Janes for Psyc 103 and Psyc 224 and absolutely loved her! She grades fairly and gives great feedback to improve your work. There is a lot of easy assignments as grade boosters and she gives extra credit opportunities throughout the semester. Lectures are very interesting and engaging. Would definitely take her courses again!
I found the class to be easy. Lecture was pretty boring as it was just a summary of the textbook pages you were required to read the night before. I do feel like I learned the concepts though and it was not bad at all for getting a pre-req out of the way.
Do not take her!! The tests are impossible to pass, and she puts you on the spot in the class.
I love professor Janes, she does have clear favorites in class but even if you're not among them she's really fun and the class is pretty easy, study guides for tests are super helpful
This professor does not hesitate to call you out for any reason she can find. She makes students feel dumb and only starts the lectures with 10 minutes left of class because she was off topic for the majority of it. She is rude and condescending. She told a senior that she should already know the answer to her question, like what? She is the worst.
I took intro psych with Dr. Janes my freshman year. At first I was not a big fan of her, I thought she was rude and snarky. But after getting a feel for her personality, I started to enjoy the class more. You can tell she has a passion for psychology. She is very understanding, especially if you go to her office hours. Final questions were reused.
Initially I thought she would be a fun prof, but after a few classes I realized shes really uptight! I had her during the COVID-19 semester, so it bothered me that she doesnt put grades on OAKS I didnt know my grade until final grades were out. Shes also not great at answering questions in person or by email, and is often vague and unhelpful.
I am majoring in Psychology and was very excited and invested in taking her class. She is not understanding, she yells at her students for asking questions and almost every class calls students out on asking "stupid questions" and tells you to check the syllabus even though the answer cannot be found there because she never updates it.
Shes a great teacher, and is super knowledgable about the information. She does call on you when youre not prepared and is very particular about attendance.
She gave a paper for the final on a film about how social media controls our lives. She swears up and down the film is about credibility and critical thinking. So, when I answered the question of what issues or topics I found most important, she gave me an 80 because I didn't say what she thought was most important. She mad an easy class miserable.
Rude and degrading teacher. Disrespects her students and does not know how to maintain a mature classroom. Would NOT recommend ever taking a class with her.
Before taking her class, I loved psychology and I was going to major in it. After taking this class with her, I am no longer majoring in psychology nor do I like it. She is not understanding at all. I would dread going to class every day because it was so boring and she is so annoying because half the time she doesn't even teach the lesson.
She is one of the meanest profs at CofC that you will get. If you get her just switch out. I wanted to be liked by her so bad and didn't and she made my life miserable. She makes you feel terrible for asking questions and decreased my interest in psych. She also is super tough grader but is there for office hours.
I really tried liking professor janes, I really did. There were times when she would call out my classmates and I and make us feel so useless and stupid if we didn't know the answer. Some people in my class really liked her, but coming from someone that isn't majoring in psych I do not recommend her as a prof.
I came to cofc as a psychology major because I heard they had a great program here. After taking this intro to psych course with professor janes, I decided I am not majoring in psych. She humiliates her students and goes too fast to the point where we can not take notes. The whole class got Cs on a test and she blamed us. Clearly she was at fault.
Professor Janes runs a very discussion driven class. She tries to learn everyones names which is nice. Available outside class. She gives extra credit for nearly every chapter(!!). She uses software for the homework that has lots of study resources. She takes test questions from that. 3 exams, 2 (easy A) projects that count to exams
At first Professor Janes seems like a nice, sweet grandma. Then she becomes mean. She yells at students for asking questions. You will have no clue your grades as she doesn't know how to work most technology. She spends most classes taking attendance, which for some reason is mandatory. The tests aren't based on the lectures, just the textbook.
Dr. Janes will definitely call students out infront of everyone and make them feel stupid. To do well on the tests, you HAVE to read the textbook and basically teach yourself. 3 tests, cumulative final, 2 projects. Gives random assignments every week that arent on syllabus and grades then very harshly with no feedback. Come to class prepared!
Professor Janes is one of those professors that you will either love or hate. I enjoyed her intro psych class. She had the tendency to have small tangents that would make it hard to get through a lecture in 50 minutes, but sometimes they were worthwhile. Definitely a passionate person. She WILL tell you she has a bias against Freud, though, lol
Professor Janes was clear and comprehensive, a lot of class discussion ensured you understood the subject matter. She was clear on any help needed and is eager to pass and help any student succeed. There was a lot of reading, but it was easy comprehensive reading.
At first I thought this professor was mean because she comes off as kind of cold. But she is honestly very nice and cares about her students. There isn't a lot of homework and she lectures well. But she will call on you randomly when you don't know an answer to something. I would take her again.
She calls students out randomly for the most odd things and makes them feel stupid. This has embarrassed me multiple times and my classmates. She encourages participation, but when students ask questions and talk during discussions, she tells them to check the syllabus or that they are wrong when they arent.
I love Professor Janes. This is my second time having her and she is the best. Definitely read the tests cover all the readings so take good notes. The tests are difficult but passable. She will call on you in class so be prepared to answer and know your stuff. But she loves getting to know her students and genuinely cares about her students.
I generally don't feel I need to go to her lectures. Her tests aren't so bad just based entirely off the textbook, not the lectures. Other assignments she graded harshly & she will also lowkey roast you if you did something wrong. She also likes making everyone speak in class at some point. She's at least nice outside the classroom & accommodating.
Don't take this professor if you value your time. Her assignments and due dates are confusing, her tests are impossible, and a group of us cried at least 2 times a week. TAKE ANYONE ELSE AVAILABLE!!!!
Gotta read the textbook to pass (I didn't). Her teaching style is lectures and then a test (3 chapters each). Intimidating at first but she's a nice lady. Unless you're a psych major this class will be difficult when testing, but is interesting in content. If you study hard and memorize terms you'll be better off. Right now I have a C in class)
by far the worst professor I've ever had. She's extremely rude. you will not learn anything from her so get ready to read your textbook. she calls students out and makes them feel stupid. she puts movies on during class. do not waste your time or money.
I honestly love PKJ. Her tests are hard, but I enjoyed her and her lectures. Although she calls people out in class, she still cares for her students and makes an effort to get to know them. She is hilarious and can be very understanding depending on the circumstances. She is one of those teachers you will either love or hate.
Worst professor I've had at COFC. Very rude to students and disorganized class. Instructions for assignments are never clear but she doesn't like to answer questions. Puts on youtube videos in class and starts lecture 10 minutes before the end of class. You won't learn anything her classes are a waste of time and money.
She is the worst professor I've ever had. She honestly is absolutely insane. She is incredibly rude and makes it her mission to ruin her students' lives. She calls out students not only about schoolwork, but also about personal things, and it is very embarrassing for everyone. She must be having some serious issues at home because this is not okay.
Probably the worst teacher I've ever had. Every day we came into class and just rambled off topic without even viewing the PowerPoints. I can honestly say I learned just about nothing from this course. She favors students and WILL make you feel stupid if you say something she doesn't agree with. Hated every second of this class. AVOID.
If you ask her about when something due, she'll say, Did I tell you it was due? Comes off as condescending and rude. Will call you out, and judge based on your answer. If you feel like she has an issue with you, be direct about it. Her lectures go off on tangents. Assignments/projects improve your grade. Would not take her again. She made me cry.
