Dr. Pleban is a kind lady. She will help you however she can if you go to her. However, her lecture strategy is simply old fashioned, which results in students struggling and developing a negative outlook on her and the course. She recites her 90+ pg. lecture slides almost word for word in a monotone voice = uninspiring and often confuses students.

DO NOT TAKE HER. she is one of the worst teachers I have ever had. you will grow to hate her voice as she is so boring and all she does is read off powerpoints. This is a "teach youself" class. She makes everything too confusing. The recitation is 50 minutes long, and the TA teaches 2 weeks worth of Chemistry during that time and does a great job! The online hw helped me learn the material. She gives a lot of extra credit. Read the book. It's an easy A if you do the work; I never bothered going to class.

Attendance is mandatory but it is only 3% of your participation grade. All she does is read off of the powerpoint. The textbook is not really necessary for her course. Recitation is what helped me pass her class with an A-. When she misgrades or if you find a mistake on a test, she will give you the credit. There are ample chances for extra credit.

She's a sweet lady, and I breezed through CHEM 121, but WARNING: CHEM 123 is completely different! It was horrible. She still offers EC through the hw though.
