She is very nice and extrememly helpful!! There is alot of reading though, but most of the time she keeps it interesting!! She gives quizzes over the readings & the tests are over the readings with a short essay.

WOW this is the most amazing professor. She is super nice, and is always there if you need help. She is very into your grade and allows late work. Also, she gives tons of prep for her essays. MLA format is a biggie for her. Wish all my classes could be this fun. VERY HIP.

Professor Portales is one of the rare breeds. She is of the dying order we call an educator. She can belt out a powerful and provocative lecture that everyone can relate and aruge with. She grades on the fairer side and will always understand your situation, if u have one. All in all she is the best professor in SAC.

A few easy quizes of the reading material, thorough essays that she's WILLING to help with if you just ask, x-cred, mid-term & final exams. Show up, read the material!

A lot of the reading was interesting and entertaining! She'll tell you exactly what she wants you say in papers. Mid-term was easy! She'll grade your essay in front of you. Very funny. Doesn't like my fragments... :/

Don't bother buying the book first off, we didn't really use it. Ms. Portales was a very nice, helpful teacher but we watched alot of movies and discussed them. Personally, I don't think that helped my English grammer a whole lot but that's just me. Also, if you re-do your papers you can bump up ur grade by a letter. best thing about that class!!

She is really a wonderful professor. What really impressed me was she made a point to know everyone's name after the second class. She seems hard at the beginning but she really doesn't care about late work or attendance. Just make sure you do the work and read her syllabus because she follows it pretty well, and it shows all the assignments.

Easy going, her class was super easy not over whelming at all, her quizzes and test are super easy if you read what she gives you. If you pay attention in her class you will make an A. her love for english and literary is easily shown and therefore makes the class fun and go by fast.

I took Professor Portales online for English 1302. She gives good feedback on assigned papers and lets you know where you need improvement. She does take weeks to grade papers and there hasn't been any extra credit opportunities for our online class. The midterm and final were fairly simple. There isn't much interaction other than the syllabus.

I took Dr. Portales' comp 1 and 2 class in Spring of 2015 and can honestly say I've made As on all of my papers ever since. She taught me so much! Guys, just read and write notes and you will get a good grade. She makes you work for it but I've received 100's on my papers from her and so can you! She lets you re-write, no excuses!

Dr Portales helped me become more confident in my writing skills and kept the class interesting. 4 essays (she allows you to revise the 2 lowest graded essays), 2 quizzes, midterm and a final. If you put the work in you can definitely get an A in her class. Will be taking her again for ENGL 1302. Strongly recommend her!

I took an online flex 2 course ENGL 1302. She does an amazing job of being clear about grades and what is expected. The syllabus was concise and timed very well. Flex courses can be overwhelming but this one was not. Highly Recommended

She shares spectacular pieces of work to show her interest in the subject, which inspires many others. Her essays are incredibly easy, so there is no way anyone can fail her class.

Portales was a great professor! She doesn't require much except doing your assignments on time, correct use of grammar on both essays and exams, and occasional attendance. Just be prepared to always review your essays for correct citations and any mistakes or misuse of periods or commas. If you have any questions, she is more than happy to answer!

Dr. Portales was a good professor. Syllabus was incorrect and had to be revised, worked in student's favor as deadlines were extended rather than shortened. I truly enjoyed Dr. Portales for this winter semester. She was a solid choice for this quick 3 week semester. She responses in a timely manner and her essays are not hard at all, she pretty much gives you the lay out so that there isnt any critical thinking of what you should write about. Great professor. Very straightforward and fair with her grading. Many of my peers believe that she grades too harshly, but I believe she simply has a high expectation for her student's writing. Not too many assignments in ENGL-1301, so be sure to try your best on the four essays/papers you have to write. You can resubmit the first two essays also.

Amazing professor. I took her for ENGL 1301 then decided to sign up for her humanities class. She is very passionate about both subjects and it shows through her lectures. She's chill. You have 2 tests the entire semester. The first one is over the stuff from the start of the semester till break, the second is over the material from break to the end. There are 4 essays, with a combined weight of 60% of your grade. If you can write essays and read the textbook, then you'll do well, but there are very few assignments.
