First off, she's beautiful. Second, she's awesome. Kind of a hardass at times, but you'll learn, and the workload isn't bad. She's serious about it, but she makes it fun, so just do your work and go with the flow. An A+ teacher!
She is very nice, but her grading is difficult. She is sometimes a little crazy too and gets mad really easily. I would not recommend taking her!
M prof for two sems and i must say im pretty fed up with this escaped ecuadorian h**. She has an attitude problem and gives WAY to much unhelpful, unnecessary work. Finally, her lectures are no help cuz it's all in the buk. ez subj if you read the buk tho
She is absolutely BEAUTIFUL and she wears really cute clothes. But sometimes she can get a little crazy and start yelling a lot in class. She is a good teacher and WILL make you learn. Take her... Shes crazy, and I love her!
she puts up a tough front but really she's awesome. i had her for 2 sems and it was hard at times but she is very cool and genuinely cares for her students :-)
Wonderful teacher, really funny, likes to joke around. Gets crazy and yells in spanish sometimes, but never means wrong--always helpful, tells you what will be on the tests. Tests are an easy format, even if you're bad at spanish. Really cares about students. Would be fun to chill with.
wonderful woman, amazing professor. this lady knows her stuff!! learning is so much easier with her. not only will she be your favorite prof., but you might just come to consider her your friend as well. she's is awesome! drop everything and take her class!!
She is one of the best spanish teachers i have ever had! She is very clear, and really knows how to explain and teach the material. I strongly recommend taking her. She does assign many assignments, but it is definetly worth it.
Romero is such a good spanish teacher! Her tests arent ridiculous and all the work she gives does help you for the exam. Sometimes she can get angry but it really doesnt affect the class in a negative way. I would highly recommend her! She really cares and wants everyone to learn!
She scares the crap out of me in class. Yet she is the best Spanish Teacher I have ever had. Do the homework and you will be fine. She is really nice, and hilarious at times. The tests arent difficult and everything is straight forward. Just don't cross her.... But she is awesome definately taking her again.
She's a ****, but she is the funniest **** i've ever met in my life... she hates me, but the class is so easy if you just do the HW that im taking her next semester too
Def comes off as a hard ass and really mean but without a doubt one of the best teachers ive had. as long as you do the homework, respect her and listen, youre all set. She is very passionate about her work and it shows in her teaching. if you are willing to be yelled at but learn a lot TAKE HER!
she scares the hell outta me.but she's w/o a doubt, one of the best spanish prof. she's tough but she knows what she's doing and you will learn so much from her class. the tests are on the material that is done in class.i would highly recommend her.
She will scare the hell out of you, be prepared. BUT, her tests are easy, doesn't check language lab, kind of a lot of homework. You will learn the language and tests are fair. I took her two semesters and would take her again.
She's cool. The first day she might scare you to death, but after that, she's a very nice and funny. If you're not intimidated by spanish, take this class. I feel like I've learned more spanish this year than all of high school
Romero is a great TEACHER, however I feel as if she is honestly not the nicest person! Quite frequently I felt as if she enjoyed when her students would fail. She also enjoys intimidation. Again great teacher, but if you want a breeze, don't take her.
She yells a lot but only as a device to keep your attention. She requires a lot of participation. Not a class you can sleep through.
The best teacher at Fordham. Scares you to death the first week but if you stay with it you reap the results. Helpful, energetic and passionate. I will be taking her until exit level if I can. Great looking as well.
She's young and funny, but very intimidating (and she likes it that way!)You never know what mood to expect...The first day will scare you to death! You'll probably always be on edge in her class, but you do learn Spanish! She's tough, but it's a good, useful class. Not too much work, tests aren't usually too bad, fair grader.I would recommend her.
Puts the fear of god in everyone who enters the class. Her intimidation, however, makes it so you learn the language better than ever. Never made such strides in spanish before having her. . I truly benefited from the class. Also, an easy, easy grader if you do ur work, she will reward you.
Ok..I'll be straight, shes not a good teacher. Instilling the fear of God into students does nothing more than make them study to pass. As soon as this class is done. Ill be further away from the Spanish language than left is from right. She makes me hate the language and i shouldn't. Heck, I went on a trip to Spain. Fantastic...
Yes she is very intimidating, but she takes care of her students! I you do the homework, and the essays, you're guaranteed a B+! She's an incredible teacher! Young & hilarious! Some people just don't want to work at all.... well have fun at Fordham..? Anyways, take her class, you wont regret it!
She's extremely scary at first, but when you warm up to her and understand her sense of humor, she can be hysterical. Do the readings, because she goes over them in class, and you'll look foolish if you don't know what she's even talking about. Essays are easy, exams are alright. She's awesome!
She is not only really beautiful but a great teacher. Yeah she seems real hard and mean at first but you come to respect her and find her hilarious. Def take her for any Spanish classes she teaches
Patricia is AWESOME. She's gorgeous too. She's difficult, but not impossible, and your Spanish will be amazing after taking any of her classes. HW and studying is a must. Tells you exactly what's on exams. Very clear Spanish/English. She's also hysterical. Sadly, I can't take her next semester. Oh and you MUST go to class.
I put a lot of work into this class, and it seems to have paid off since Romero gave me an A-. Would I take her again? Absolutely not. The fear and stress I endured was not worth it. I'd recommend her to someone if they were genuinely interested in Spanish, but if you consider it an inconvenience of a requirement like I do, take someone else.
Definitely agree with some other comments below me. She is intimidating at first, but once you get to know her she is really great. I took spanish for four years in high school and I learned more in four months with Patricia. I'm taking her again for the next level spanish and I'm looking forward to it.
best spanish teacher i ever had, learned so much and her tests are so easy
Honestly, I was sooo intimidated by Patricia at first, but she's great! She's very nice and she like to joke with students as well. There is a lot of homework, but you know what to expect...it's nothing too difficult. She expects a lot from you, but you learn SO much
awesome teacher, but scary as hell. like honestly, if you break under pressure, dont take her. she runs the class like an army sergeant. she WILL call on you in class and grill you. there is ALOT of hw every single night. she checks hw everyday. the tests are really easy. by the end of the semester she grows on you.
She is overall a very good teacher. She is very strict, almost harsh, but if you actually try to participate, do the homework, come to class on time, you will learn the language. Despite her tendency to be harsh she does treat people fairly. She is also pretty hot, which is always a bonus. If you want to actually learn Spanish take her class, if no
She is by far the best spanish teacher at Fordham. She was intimidating the first couple of days of class, however, she turned out to be one of the greatest professors there. You really learn alot for the test, and she prepares you well for the exam. Great professor, overall.
Patricia Romero was definitely intimidating at first. I've taken her for two semesters, and I will take her next semester. She is definitely my favorite professor here at Fordham. Like other posters have said, she will call on you in class so be prepared and know your stuff. Her tests are pretty easy and she requires oral presentations. Take her!
I adore Patricia! You absolutely must be prepared to do HW every night, study for tests, and prep for orals. If you do the work, you are guaranteed an A. Basically if you don't slack off and get on her bad side, you are set. If you don't want to work, take someone else!
you want to learn spanish. take her. she is hard core. intimidating but hey, you'll learn
She will scare you the first few weeks for sure, but she gets a lot nicer later on. Shes an excellent teacher who will really go the extra mile to help you outside of class. Always do your HW, participate, and study and youll be guaranteed a B+ or higher no doubt. Expect regular HW and come to every class awake and ready for her. Take her.
She will definitely scare you at first and a but throughout the class. She really want her students to understand the material. Reading and completion of the work is necessary to understand what is going on in class. A couple of 2 pg comps here and there and a different story to read every week. Not bad.
Patricia is a wonderful woman! She's pretty strict and expects a lot, but she's so helpful (both in class and in office hours) and funny (and she's kinda cute). If you want an easy A, this might not be the professor for you. But if you want to learn the language and take something out of the class, take Patricia.
So worth taking. She's strict, but it's not hard to get an A as long as you just do the work and give her what she wants. She's super helpful outside of class and incredibly funny. Tests are hard, but it's really easy to make up for them by just doing the homework and doing essay revisions. One of the best teachers at Fordham
When you first meet her she is completely intimidating, but that's only to weed out the people who are thin-skinned and won't work hard. After they leave, she turns into a really nice and funny professory. She is definitely one of the best proessors I've ever had at Fordham and you WILL learn a lot if you work hard and attend class.
Patricia is terrifying for the first couple of months but all is forgotten by the end of the semester. If you are interested in the class, it's a good choice. prepare to work hard and participate in class discussions. do what she asks of you, and you'll be fine.
she is a wonderful professor. completely scary at first, but stay with her! she is very funny and takes her job very serious. the website she created for the class was incredible. she is helpful. be prepared to do a lot of reading and write at least five compositions (in class). there is homework every night, but it's not bad. LOVED HER!
Excellent professor. Very intimidating at first, but it's only to get rid of people who don't care. I've taken 2 courses from her, and she doesn't disappoint. Discusses a lot of social issues and current events. Loves her students and is quite helpful outside class. Great prof.
At first she was SO scary. We all considered dropping her class. A few months in, she was still extremely difficult.. and assigned a ton of work. But by the end...we all grew to love her. She is a great woman who truly cares. Do the work, try hard, participate, and you will do fine. Will miss her!
She's a VERY intimidating woman, and she stays intimidating throughout the semester. You'll grow to hate her with a burning passion of a thousand suns, but in the end realize she rewards hard work. Just do your work (and do it to your best ability), participate, and just put a good amount of effort in and your efforts will not go unnoticed.
I took Patrica in a summer class and like everyone else said she is intimidating at first, maybe since it's a small class she softened up on us more theN usual. I also had no business passing with the grade I did based on my midterm but I worked hard participated and did much better on the final & passed the class because she rewards hard work.
HIGHLY RECCOMMEND ROMERO. Loved her funny energy, would sometimes call on us out of the blue. She would get responses out of us by saying "Rapidamente" which helped. Repeats important information. Super understanding of our place as language learners. Encouraged us to seek help. She gives a lot of work, made me smarter. Hilarious jokester!
I loved Patricia so much. Being in her class for natives speakers she understands where students are coming from. She is not a hard teacher workwise. She is also amazing as a person, super nice and helpful. 10/10 take her class.
I came into first semester wishing I didn't have to take Spanish but after taking Professor Romero's class, I want to minor in it. I made my next semester schedule around her SPAN2001 class and I can't wait. She really cares about her students. She's so funny and although it is a lot of work sometimes, she keeps it really interesting!
Smart, dedicated, and fair. I'm not sure there is anything else you could ask for. She's no-nonsense, but she tries her best with every student. Highly recommended
This is the second time that I have taken Professor Romero's class; she is the absolute best. She is so funny and makes the language very enjoyable to learn. She really loves what she does and cares a lot for her students. I wish I could take her class again. I would definitely recommend!
She is absolutely so sweet. Because of her, I was convinced to minor in Spanish. She's super intelligent, helpful, and caring. She makes Spanish fun and most definitely is at the top of her game. You will learn a lot and you will enjoy it too! Take her!!
Take her!!! She is one of the most engaging professors I have had. You should definitely study up before coming to class, and she expects you to do the hw in full. She wants everyone to succeed so can get upset if she feels you aren't trying. Super sweet and understanding, even though she comes off as scary at first lol
It was a lot of busy work, despite being an online class, but she's a great professor. She cares about her students and wants them to learn which is why she expects a lot from them. I definitely recommend taking her, it's just a lot of work.
Prof Romero expects a lot out of her students. Not only did she expect everyone to participate, but she would randomly call on people out of the blue and would scold you for not knowing the answer. Assigns A LOT of homework; the majority being busy work. Made the class very hard for someone who struggles with Spanish. Not my favorite.
Romero seems intimidating, but that's because she expects you to work on your Spanish and improve. She wants you to do well, but in order for that to happen, you need to work hard. A lot of busy work and she is a slow grader, but I PROMISE if you do all the work timely and show her you care, you'll get an A. I would 100% take her again.
Overall Prof. Romero is an amazing person. There was a lot of homework compared to other Spanish classes but I would definitely recommend this class. She was very compassionate and caring through the transition. I am NOT good at Spanish and she helped me understand the material and get an A. The homework rly helps your grade especially myspanishlab
SO much work, most of it busy work. Unreasonable expectationds for students- the professor definitely thinks her class is the only one.
She's a pretty meh professor, she's available outside class but takes FOREVER to grade things. Like two weeks before the end of school she had yet to grade homework which made it hard to access where I'd end up grade-wise. Also you MUST participate. I got a 95% on participation and I participated to the point where I was that annoying teachers pet.
Your class to class experience will depend on whether she's in a good mood or not. When she's not she will yell at your class as a whole for a solid 5 minutes about participating, when everyone already is. Even if you speak multiple times during class and never miss you won't get above a 95% for participation. Also WAY too many movies.
She was a complete sweetheart. Expects you to do your work but that is how you learn. She really cares for her students and is very empathetic.
She is really nice on a personal basis but throughout the semester we had no idea what our grades were until the last week, despite a plethora of assignments, quizzes, and a presentation. Be prepared to watch so many movies and do annoying premade packets of busy work for those movies. But, if you participate in the class she will like you
A true gem in the language department. I had her for the Fall semester of 2020 and she was always very understanding of my circumstances. She wants students to understand the material and goes out of her way to make sure you do. Puts in a lot of effort into her teachings and is a truly great professor and person.
Professor Romero barely teaches and has no remorse or empathy for situations. She takes attendance seriously and expects everyone to constantly participate. Her homework assignments are long and difficult and what she goes over in class is not related to what we do on our own. Do not recommend as Span 2001 is a difficult class.
Pay attention in class and participate a lot, and you'll be okay. Work hard on projects and study a lot for tests. Make sure to ask questions if you don't understand anything - she may not go over it. She cares about students and tries to be accessible outside of class.
EXTREMELY lenient grader!!! i am truly not sure how i ended up with a b in this class. she is an amazing person, super sweet and kind but she expects you to work hard. homework due every class and you must participate every day. extra credit available if you ask for it. lectures arent the most helpful but go to office hours!!!
Very tough. She's nice if you participate but the participation grade is not a given, difficult to get above an 85 for it. She assigned a lot of HW in my opinion, its manageable and not too difficult but it can pile up. The class is branded as a class for people who have NEVER taken spanish but assumes you already know some and moves very fast.
Prof Romero acts like we should already know Spanish in an intro course and gets mad when we don't understand. Lots of hw, but the tests and quizzes aren't horrible you do need to pay attention during lectures bc it will be on the test. Class is fast paced so be prepared to teach yourself most of it. AND BUY THE TEXTBOOK ASAP (trust)
She is funny, gives a lot of work but will give you an extension if you ask for one. She gives weekly quizzes shouldn't be too hard unless you don't study.
To preface, I took Latin all throughout high school and generally struggled with learning other languages. For this class, you'll need to work hard. But Professor Romero is excellent, especially when you try your best. She was very lenient with my grades and I learned quite a lot from her.
I was expecting her class to be challenging, but if you try with the assignments and participation- you will be fine. She is really lenient with non-Spanish speakers and grades them differently. 4 essays (around 2 pages each), homework due every class (usually just readings), a lot of group class work, an easy midterm and final. I recommend!!!!!!!!
The amount of overwhelming busywork and constant homework is exhausting and then she tells you you have a cumulative exam the same week you will have to do 8+ homework assignments, a project, and simultaneously study and then grades extremely harsh. She expects you to know/learn quick on your own and can be unprofessional when in a bad mood
the class itself isn't hard, but she is ridiculously moody. most days she would scream for no reason, and mocks students for asking questions. Our last exam was cancelled at 11 pm the night before we were meant to take it (at 8:30 on the Tues. before Thanksgiving). It's her way or the highway.
Don't be scared by how she presents herself on the first day of class (especially for Span Lang and Lit). Patricia is super kind, understanding, and down to earth. She is also the most lenient grader for a Spanish prof I have ever had at Fordham (gave A's for all exams and presentations even with an insane amount of errors). Take her!!!
Professor Romero was extremely uncommunicative and dropped off the face of the earth halfway through the semester. More than half of our classes were cancelled or moved to zoom. She would suddenly drop a group project or big assignment on the class with less than a week to complete it/prepare. Do not recommend unless you're a native speaker.
She seems intimidating at first, but genuinely a wonderful human being. It is clear she loves teaching and her students. Can confirm you will get better at Spanish. Just don't heck up the assignment instructions and everything will be copacetic.
Great teacher. Explains things very well. You NEED to study outside of class to be able to participate well, which she does take into account. She memorizes everyones names by the 2nd class so you cannot hide if that is something you are used to. Calls on people. She is fun to talk to, has many interesting life experiences. Overall I love her still
She was amazing. She is a bit strict, but she definitely cares about her students. She's very clear about how she wants the class to go. You can't escape a single class without participating, but it's mostly group work in class. If you sit next to people you know you can work well with, the class will be a breeze.
Patricia is very moody, one class she will be friendly and then the next super harsh and unprofessional. She was not very lenient with new Spanish speakers. She never actually teaches so I basically taught myself everything - in class she just goes over seemingly pointless activities. Overall she is okay but I would be cautious taking her class.
Very understanding and easy grader if you aren't a native speaker. Lots of in-class participation, but as long as you put effort in and speak regularly you will do well. Make sure to sit with people you work well with!
She will not like you; do not take this class. She does not answer emails and gives an attitude if you ask questions. She is mean and does not care about her students. The workload is insane, and she is very last-minute about everything. She also cancels all the time, but don't be fooled —the work doubles when she is not there. Be cautious!
Professor Romero is a good introductory Spanish professor. The class has a lot of homework and studying, much of it feels like busy work. Participation is essential to doing well in class. There are weekly quizzes and lots of class activities. Sometimes Professor Romero's energy is off, and the class feels very strict.
kind of disorganized but in a good way, great teacher she really cares about her students. fair grader.
