dr smith is an amazing professor. ive taken her for 2 semesters she is brilliant and hofstra is lucky to have her on staff.

Very smart professor. Though she may have problems coming to class if you get to know her and empty her thoughts the class is very entertaining.

Pat Smith...Brilliant. If you'd like the opportunity to learn from a true scholar... take her class. An open mind is a necessity.

Honestly the only 1.25min class i actually pay attention the whole time. She's got the best stories, gives easy assignments, is soo funny, absent a lot & eaiser grader. She's probably the funniest & best teacher I've had - everyone should be required to have her! DEFINATLY TAKE A CLASS OF HERS!!!

I loved her class and i am taking another English class with her next semester. She has wonderful stories and fascinating views on human nature. Picks great books to read and is an easy grader.

She picks great books to read and doesn't assign much work. She really makes you think and tries hard to help us identify with the characters

Dr. Smith is an amazing professor, she is extremely intelligent, true she is easily distracted and goes off on many tangents, but she still has a great deal to teach and many insights to offer. Stay away from this professor if you happen to be an ignorant ****, and if that's the case i truly am sorry for you.

I have taken many classes with Dr. Smith & she is by far one of the most intelligent, insightful women I have ever met. If you actually read the material and pay attention you are sure to get an A. Class Participation is also key to doing well in her classes. If you enjoy amusing stories and intelligent discourse take her class

I like Professor Smith...kinda. She is knowledgable about english and class isnt too hard but, like one of the other ratings says, dont take the class unless you want to hear about her lesbian life, ex girlfriends, weird family, how much she hates hofstra students (because apparently we all are from LI and think we are the Gotti family), how much she loved California and so on. The class itself is pretty amusing when she goes on her lil tangent stories, but she has offended me more than once. Be careful.

Horrible..Whoever said she was easy is nuts. The termpaper is impossible. Pick unique topics? to prevent finding help on the "internet"? Absolutely miserable class. I'm counting down the days til its over! She makes me cry when I go home.

i dont understand i had her for english 2 and she was the best.. her test are easy and so are her essays.. shes funny and tells lots of stories.. she helped me out a lot with most of my situations shes cool a lil nutty but cool

very condescending - miserable person - also - if I missed as many classes as she did I would fail - she talks down to us and I can't believe students ACCEPT it - I hate when she mocks the students with that obnoxious fake voice she does - I paid way too much money to be talked down to - I didn't pay for negativity-oh-and im not ignorant

My favorite Professor at Hofstra so far. Very interesting stories and tangents unrelated to the class. If you get her sense of humor and past her intimidation act on day 1 you'll be fine. The only problem I could see anyone having with her is excessive absenses however it didn't really prevent us from covering the material.

BEST teacher at Hofstra!! The reading is easy and the test are based directly from the reading. EXTREMELY FAIR. And she is VERY funny!

Professor Smith is awesome. Her syllabus is a little scary, but the class is very easy. All the books are on spark notes and if you attend most of the classes you will do fine on her two tests. There is also a paper, but she makes herslef avialable if you need help. She is very funny and I found the class very enjoyable.

She is by far one of the best professors I've ever had...I hate skool i hate reading and definitely hate english but she made the class interesting she went off topic and was funny and class was not boring picks good books to read and if u talk to her she will help scary at first but a big softy if u stick it out

If you fail this class or get less than an A- u deserve it the two tests are word for word out of the books and the class discussions are easy just read and do as your told and u will do just fine 1 paper besides that and rest is EASY!!!!!!!!!!!!

She's very friendly, but a lot of insecure students think her personality proves otherwise. Just be nice to her and she'll be nice to you. If you don't like her tangents, then just ignore them and be thankful that she isn't lecturing instead. She's actually quite intelligent, funny, and reasonable. And I hardly even read in her class!

She can't make the class any easier and "user friendly." Everyone can get an A by not being an idiot. Yea she talks about her personal like and problems, but who doesnt have problems? I found that it made it easier to relate to her becuase she was made herself open, and easy to relate to. SHE IS ONE OF THE BEST PROFESSORS AT HOFSTRA!!!!!!!!!!!!

Professor Smith may be one of the nicest teachers at hofstra, but if she doesn't like you,you're not going to do well. Just go to class and participate and she'll like you fine. Only one research paper which she'll help you with and two tests which are right from the books and her lecture

Ok people it's time to get real. Dr. Smith is very down to Earth. Read the novels, show up in class for discussion & take good notes. Ask for help if you need it on the paper & that's all there is to it. I'm a Bus. major & did well - you can too if you do the work and take some responsibility for your education. Some people just need to grow up.

Dr. Smith is very very intelligent and makes learning about the assigned novels an enjoyable experience. A bit scary and intimidating, but is excellent with helping students and really cares about you as a person. Very reasonable. Like she says on the first day of class, as long as you read all the novels there is no reason not to get a good grade.

Dr. Smith is a very interesting professor - but not in a bad way. The first few classes she seemed a bit intimidating, but she really is a great prof! Make sure to do the readings (or spark note it) and don't fall behind and you'll be fine. Very approachable in office hours. We only had 1 paper, a midterm and a final. Pretty interesting stuff, too.

I love Dr Smith her stories are hilarious and it makes the class really fun. However, even though she goes on tangents you need to read the books. Both midterm and final are passage identif and a final 7 page paper that is open topic based on novels. I took two classes with her in the same semester and I had no issues. You can do well if you try.

Show up and do the reading. That's it. Her lectures do go off on tangents about her personal life, but they are hilarious. Keeps class interesting. The books aren't difficult, she puts on movies, and explains the book as well. Take her, it's a good break from super serious classes.

Two tests and one paper. That's it. You will do fine on the tests if you show up to class and write down the most important points (and her classes are very entertaining IMO). Only one paper for an English class is unheard of, since most other professors usually require two or three. I recommend her if you're just trying to satisfy a LT requirement

This class was pretty easy. If you like watching movies instead of book discussions this is a good teacher to take. Dr. Smith is funny and sarcastic but likes to ramble so we didn't do much in class. Theres an easy midterm and final and a final paper but thats it. Only homework was to read. I'd take a class with her again

Its been a while since I took her class but the reality is that if you go through Hofstra without taking her class you have done yourself a disfavor. She is articulate, intelligent and caring. Her lectures resonate with me years later and she has literally taught a bunch of my former students that have sang her praises. Take her class its worth it.

She comes off as somewhat strange & occasionally goes off on political rants that are completely unrelated to the class subject. She's also very repetitive. Otherwise, she's very intelligent in her field & what more could you ask for?

Professor Smith is fair, if the class reads the books and she can tell, she will go easy on you. She talks a lot but she will drop hints to questions on the test if you pay attention. If you don't want to read don't waste your time taking her class. she uses actual passages from the book on her test ,even though she shows the movies of the books.

Dr. Smith, while she may come off as strict at first, is a fair professor who only asks that you do the readings, show up, and pay attention. She does not assign essays and gives you a few tests on your knowledge of the course material. If you read and paid attention it's an easy B, if not better.

best prof ive had. shes a bit cynical but makes class very entertaining so you want to talk about books that you used to view as boring.
